Bostancı, Hasan Tahsin
Gümüşhane, jeolojik yapısı, engebeli topografyası ve iklimsel özellikleri nedeniyle ülkemizde heyelan, kaya düşmesi ve çığ gibi kütle hareketlerinin sıkça yaşandığı illerden biridir. 2021 yılında hazırlanan il afet risk azaltma planında il genelinde meydana gelen doğal afetlerin %49’unu heyelanların oluşturduğu belirtilmiştir. Dolayısıyla bu çalışmada, makine öğrenmesi algoritmaları kullanılarak Gümüşhane’nin Merkez ilçesinin heyelan duyarlılık haritalarının üretilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada makine öğrenmesi algoritmaları olarak lojistik regresyon (LR), yapay sinir ağları (ANN) ve destek vektör makineleri (SVM) tercih edilmiştir. Adı geçen algoritmalarla oluşturulan duyarlılık modellerinde; bakı, drenaj ağlarına uzaklık, yola uzaklık, yükseklik, arazi örtüsü, litoloji, plan eğriliği, profil eğriliği, eğim ve topografik nemlilik indeksi (TWI)’nden oluşan 10 faktör kullanılmıştır. Modellerin eğitim ve doğrulama aşamasında MTA Genel Müdürlüğünden temin edilen heyelan envanter haritası kullanılmıştır. LR, ANN ve SVM modellerinin performansı ROC eğrisi altında kalan alan (area under the ROC curve - AUC) metriği kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir.

Seyhan, Burak
This study comparatively analyzes green economy practices in four leading EU member states: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Freiburg, and Ljubljana. Urban green transition strategies through multi-level governance, policy instruments, citizen participation, circular economy practices, and sustainable infrastructure development. A qualitative multiple case study design was adopted for the analysis based on secondary data from municipal strategy documents, EU policy frameworks, academic literature, and reports by international organizations. The cities were selected using purposive sampling based on the following criteria: (i) EU membership; (ii) long-term green economy strategies; (iii) international recognition such as European Green Capital; and (iv) academic and institutional data availability. Data analysis was carried out by means of qualitative content analysis using a category-based coding framework. NVivo 14 was used for coding and thematic structuring. Key analytical categories included policy domains (e.g., energy, mobility, waste, green infrastructure), governance models (e.g., participatory, public-private), policy instruments (e.g., incentives regulatory tools), and performance metrics (e.g., emissions reductions waste diversion rates). Results indicated that the city has developed a distinct mix of green policies determined by its institutional capacity local resources and social context. For example: Amsterdam emphasizes circular economy and smart mobility; Copenhagen integrated infrastructure in line with carbon neutrality targets; Freiburg governance model centered on civic engagement; Ljubljana success in waste management plus planning for green spaces. SWOT analyses revealed the strengths and weaknesses of each city in terms of their green economy policies. The study underlines the importance of multi-layered and participatory governance frameworks, temporally and contextually sensitive policy instruments, as well as data-driven monitoring systems to align local green economy initiatives with broader EU strategies such as the European Green Deal or Sustainable Development Goals. Results provide both conceptual and practical contributions toward an ever-growing literature about sustainable urban policy plus governance within a European context.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Social Protection and the Function of the Loss-Damage Fund in Climate-induced Migration
Beken, Hıkmet Gülçın
Today, the accelerated effects of climate change on people's life and ways of livelihood are becoming more and more important. People may use migration as a coping strategy if environmental shocks continue. Resilience to climate change is increased when social protection measures like cash transfers, public works, and economic inclusion are integrated with climate adaptation. Key international agreements also acknowledge social protection as a useful instrument for alleviating poverty and vulnerability brought on by climate change. Loss and damage through climate justice highlights how industrialized nations have historically contributed to the global ecological crisis. On a worldwide level, however, inadequate funding for loss and damage continues to be a major cause of problems. Reducing migration related to climate change can be achieved through increasing adaptive capacity, diversifying local livelihoods, creating social safety networks, and using loss and damage mechanisms. This study examines the combined effects of economic development, social policy, and climate finance on reducing migration related to climate change. It emphasizes on the role of social protection systems and the loss and damage fund among these mechanisms.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026The Triple Relationship between Biofuel Production, Carbon Emissions and Economic Growth in Türkiye Using Time Series Analysis: A policy proposal based on algae in biofuel production
Akar, Bülent; Akar, Sonay
Purpose: Study aims to determine the causality relationship between production of biofuel, carbon emissions and economic growth between 2005 and 2022 in Türkiye. Findings: The findings show that there is a unidirectional causality relationship from biofuel production to carbon emissions in Turkey. Meanwhile, GDP was not found to be associated with any variable. Limitations: Access to regular and uninterrupted data on biofuel production in Turkey covers the period between 2005 and 2022. Therefore, this period was selected as the start and end years of the research, and the frequency range of the research was limited to 18 years. Originality/Value: Minimising the negative environmental impacts of production is becoming increasingly important. Because the decline in global reserves of fossil fuels and the greenhouse gas emissions indicate that is unsustainable of dependence on these energy sources. Consequently, it is coming to the agenda biofuels which are both renewable and carbon neutral among alternative energy sources. Biofuels based on plant oil, hydrogen, bioethanol or biodiesel can provide an improvement against fossil carbon emissions compared to fossil fuels such as petrol. Furthermore, the compatibility of biofuels with existing engine technology has increased interest in these resources both in scientific circles and in industrial investment areas. Study, the biofuels which are of economic and ecological importance considered to make a unique contribution to the field as a current study examining the interaction between carbon emissions and economic growth.

Deniz Ozturk, Yasemin; Peker, Iskender
The 6 February 2023 earthquakes caused catastrophic losses across 11 provinces of T & uuml;rkiye. To meet urgent shelter needs, extensive tent and container settlements were rapidly established; over time, however, these sites proved highly vulnerable to multi-hazard events. This study investigates the spatial and temporal distribution and impacts of fires, floods, and storms on temporary shelters over a two-year period following the earthquakes. In total, 306 events were identified across eight provinces - 155 fires, 147 floods, and 4 storms - damaging 5,075 containers and 420 tents, and causing 16 deaths and 67 injuries. Seasonal factors played a critical role of these hazards. As the earthquakes occurred during winter, the region's cold, rainy conditions led to frequent flooding and numerous heating-related tent fires, particularly in winter and early spring. March recorded the highest number of events due to intense rainfall, storms, and elevated heating demand. Vulnerable groups - including children, workers, and refugees - were disproportionately affected, with children accounting for six fire-related fatalities. Overall, the results highlight the seasonal nature of multi-hazard events in temporary shelter areas and emphasise the need for climate-sensitive planning, hazard mitigation measures, and improved safety standards in post-disaster temporary settlements.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Electricity Prices, Technology, Productivity, And Environmental Degradation: Implications For Financial Stability
Çakir, Mehmet Ali; Ökte, Mehmet Kutlughan Savas
The limited availability of fossil fuels and the financial pressure they create for countries that do not have the resources have led countries to search for new energy sources. In particular, renewable energy sources and therefore electrical energy obtained from these sources have been proposed in the literature as an alternative to fossil fuels. Thus, this study investigates the impact of electricity prices on financial stability in European Union countries from 2010 to 2021 using Driscoll Kraay fixed effects estimation. Financial stability is measured using the bank z-score, while productivity-intensive technology, environmental quality, and economic growth are included as control variables. The findings indicate that an increase in electricity prices negatively affects the bank z-score. In contrast, productivity-intensive technology positively impacts the bank z-score. Similarly, environmental quality contributes to an increase in the bank z-score. Additionally, economic growth enhances financial stability. Considering that rising electricity prices negatively affect financial stability, policymakers should encourage companies to produce electricity from renewable sources, such as solar panels or wind turbines. This can be supported through incentives such as tax breaks or low-cost financing for firms investing in on-site renewable energy systems. In this way, electricity price fluctuations will have less impact on companies and, in turn, help protect financial stability.

In developing economies, rapid economic growth intensifies environmental pressures, thereby increasing the importance of financial inclusion, energy intensity, and natural resource dependence for environmental sustainability. This situation necessitates a holistic examination of the determinants of environmental degradation in emerging markets, which motivates this study. In this context, the study examines the effects of financial inclusion, energy intensity, and natural resource rents on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in BRICS and MINT countries and empirically tests the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Accordingly, annual panel data covering the period 2000-2020 are analysed using a machine learning (ML)-based estimation framework, the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimator, and Panel Quantile Regression (PQR). The findings indicate that natural resource rents increase CO2 emissions in BRICS, whereas they reduce emissions in MINT. Moreover, energy intensity and income per capita are found to increase CO2 emissions across all quantiles in both country groups. The environmental impact of financial inclusion is heterogeneous, reducing CO2 emissions in BRICS countries while increasing emissions in MINT countries. These results underscore the critical importance of explicitly incorporating country-specific heterogeneity into environmental sustainability policy design.

Oguz, Enes Cengiz; Gyasi, Evans Akwasi; Pala, Fahrettin; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Barut, Abdulkadir
The study sheds light on the subtle interactions among financial development, foreign direct investment (FDI), and the quality of regulatory frameworks, with particular reference to their deep influence on renewable energy use and carbon emissions across 22 developed countries from 2002-2021. The results show an interesting tendency: Financial development and FDI will reduce reliance on renewable energy, whereas a significant increase in GDP per capita will increase reliance. Secondly, carbon emissions have a negative association with the adoption of renewable energy and financial development, though both reduce environmental quality; there is a positive relation between real gross domestic product (GDP) and energy depletion in terms of these toxic emissions. The significant role of regulatory quality as a moderator in this process is particularly striking. There is a direct correlation between financial stability and more robust regulation, resulting in reduced financial liquidity available for investing in renewable projects and restricting the free flow of clean FDI. Crucially, the paper argues that when combined with strong regulation, FDI is more likely to contribute to reductions in emissions, while FYGD, nevertheless regulated at a high level of quality, should raise emissions. Winding up, the result indicates that neither financial depth nor institutional quality, in isolation, is sufficient to deliver significant environmental improvement. Thus, it is urgent to adopt sound green finance policies and to formulate focused regulatory systems that integrate financial development and foreign direct investment with a broader sustainability agenda.

Altın, İsmail; Bayraktar, Hakan; Sezer, İsmet
Effects of dual spark plug (DSP) operation in a spark ignition (SI) engine on energy, exergy, and exhaust emissions are numerically investigated in this study. A quasi–dimensional SI engine cycle model is used for the analyses. The practical correlations with no assume the fluid dynamics are occupied for the simulation of intake and exhaust periods and the turbulent flame propagation analogy is assigned for the modeling of combustion. The second law of thermodynamics is added to the cycle model to execute the exergy analysis. The thermodynamic parameters such as in–cylinder pressure and temperature, ignition delay, and burn duration with the engine performance parameters are evaluated in the energy analysis. The exergies transferred via heat, work, and exhaust gases, besides destroyed exergy, fuel chemical exergy, thermomechanical exergy and total exergy are compiled for the exergy analysis. The carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NO), and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are defined for emission performance analysis. The results show that DSP operation affects moderately energy, exergy, and exhaust emissions. The best results were obtained at dimensionless spark plug location (ratio of spark plug location radius to cylinder radius–Xsp) of 0.2 for DSP compared to centrally located single spark plug (SSP).

Işık, Fatih; Eraslan, Selim; Köse, Nesibe
This study investigates the growth dynamics of Pinus sylvestris across the Zigana and Tersun Mountains in the Eastern Black Sea transition zone (Türkiye), elucidating the role of topography in modulating climate–growth relationships. By utilizing 476 increment cores from 239 trees across 12 sites, we developed tree-ring width (TRW), earlywood (EW), and latewood (LW) chronologies to evaluate growth responses along elevation and aspect gradients using moving correlation analysis and Generalized Additive Mixed Models (GAMM). Results reveal a pronounced topo-climatic differentiation: northern slopes of Zigana operate under cold-limited regimes, where growth is primarily governed by early-season temperatures (March–April). Conversely, southern slopes and the inland Tersun Mountains exhibit a shift toward moisture-limited regimes, with growth showing high sensitivity to May–June precipitation. Moving correlation analyses demonstrate a significant temporal transition since the late 1960s, where temperature-driven growth stimulation has been progressively replaced by an intensifying sensitivity to early-season moisture availability. GAMM results revealed non-linear growth responses to seasonal temperature and precipitation variability. The response curves indicated reduced growth under colder March–April conditions, with relative growth increasing markedly when March–April mean temperatures exceeded a model-estimated threshold of approximately 2.0–2.2 °C. May temperature showed a narrow statistical optimum around 7.5–9.7 °C, above which the estimated growth response declined. May–June precipitation promoted growth up to a model-dependent saturation threshold of approximately 300 mm, followed by a tendency toward saturation or decrease. Ultimately, the Eastern Black Sea climatic barrier generates high local-scale variability, rendering inland populations increasingly vulnerable to drought stress under ongoing climate warming. These findings underscore the necessity of topographic context in climate-growth studies and emphasize the urgent need for site-specific, climate-adaptive forest management strategies.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Multi-scale greening dynamics in Türkiye’s Ecoregions (2001–2024): the effects of elevation and land cover on NDVI change tendencies
Işık, Fatih; Eraslan, Selim
Understanding vegetation dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems is critical under the pressures of global climate change and anthropogenic activities. This study analyzes vegetation dynamics from 2001 to 2024 in Türkiye’s 13 biodiverse terrestrial ecoregions using a multi-scale approach, focusing not only on the main drivers, but also on the interactive and context-specific role of these factors. Using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform and MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data, integrated through a structured multi-scale framework, we applied statistical methods including the Mann–Kendall test, Kruskal–Wallis test, and LOESS curves optimized with leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) to objectively model non-linear dynamics. The results revealed statistically significant positive NDVI change tendencies in all 13 terrestrial ecoregions (Mann–Kendall test, p < 0.05). Forest-dominated ecoregions exhibited the strongest greening, with Sen’s slope values reaching +0.0032 NDVI year⁻1 in the Euxine–Colchic Broadleaf Forests, whereas steppe ecosystems showed more moderate increases (e.g., Central Anatolian Steppe: + 0.0019 NDVI year⁻1). Across elevation gradients, the most consistent and strongest greening occurred at mid-elevations (500–1500 m; τ ≈ 0.40–0.65), while change tendencies weakened and became more heterogeneous at higher elevations. Land-cover-based analysis further showed that natural vegetation types exhibited the strongest nationwide tendencies (“Trees”: τ = 0.71; “Shrubland”: τ = 0.66), whereas anthropogenically influenced classes displayed weaker or regionally variable responses. Beyond documenting general greening patterns, the original contribution of this study lies in introducing a structured multi-scale framework that integrates long-term MODIS NDVI time series (2001–2024) with ecoregion, elevation, and land cover contexts. This approach enables the objective identification of ecosystem-specific and scale-dependent vegetation dynamics that cannot be captured by conventional single-scale or linear trend-based analyses commonly applied in previous studies in Türkiye.

This study develops an innovative thermal energy storage approach for lightweight building systems by using eutectic phase change material (EPCM)-impregnated moss biomass (Cp/EPCM) in the internal voids of OKAL chipboard (OKS-Cp/EPCM). A high latent heat storage (LHS) capacity of 121.4 J/g was achieved with a 72% EPCM loading. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of the OKS-Cp/EPCM decreased from 0.15074 W/m·K to 0.109 W/m·K. Thermal imaging results showed that the OKS-Cp/EPCM improved thermal comfort by reducing the surface temperature by approximately 10.5 °C in hot environments and providing an approximately 1 °C higher surface temperature in cold environments. However, TGA analyses revealed that the thermal resistance of the composite was limited. Relative humidity results also indicated that Cp/EPCM positively contributed to the moisture regulation performance of the board. Based on these results, OKS-Cp/EPCM offers a promising solution for the development of energy-efficient and thermally comfortable lightweight building elements.

Climate change is expected to affect all sectors of the global economy, with agriculture being particularly vulnerable due to its dependence on temperature and precipitation. Cotton is especially sensitive to these changes as its productivity relies on suitable thermal conditions, water availability, and stable reproductive development. This study investigates the effects of climate change on cotton productivity and agricultural income in seven major cotton-producing countries, including Australia, Brazil, China, India, Pakistan, Türkiye, and the United States, over the period 1971-2023. Long-run relationships were examined using the Westerlund cointegration test, country-specific effects were estimated with the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimator and verified using Common Correlated Effects (CCE) approach, while short-run dynamics were assessed through the Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test. Results reveal significant long-run relationships between climate variables, cotton productivity, and agricultural income, although the magnitude and direction of these effects vary across countries. In contrast, short-run effects appear limited and heterogeneous. To strengthen the interpretation of the econometric findings, the results are compared with experimental evidence on cotton heat stress and physiological responses. Together, the evidence indicates that climate change influences cotton productivity mainly through temperature-sensitive processes such as photosynthesis, reproductive development, and fiber formation, underscoring the need for country-specific adaptation strategies and climate-resilient agricultural policies.
- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2026A Policy-Aligned Integrated Index Framework for Environmental Impact Assessment Monitoring and Reporting Using the Best Worst Method
Şimşek, Aybala; Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadır
Environmental Impact Assessment generates growing volumes of monitoring data, yet reporting still tends to treat indicators as separate signals rather than parts of a coherent evaluative structure. This chapter responds to that gap by developing a policy-aligned integrated index for monitoring and reporting in EIA. The proposed framework links environmental indicators to ESG themes, SDG targets, and European Green Deal priorities, then uses the Best Worst Method to derive transparent and defensible weights. Rather than presenting the index as a substitute for detailed evidence, the chapter treats it as a structured synthesis that can clarify how monitoring results relate to policy commitments and reporting needs. An illustrative application shows how the framework can organise indicators, support interpretation, and remain sensitive to alternative weighting choices. The chapter concludes by outlining the practical value and limits of using integrated indices in EIA contexts.

Soydaş, Şafak Sönmez; Özbek, Adem; Çam, Alper Veli; Radulescu, Magdalena; Alofaysan, Hind
This study examines how financial literacy and financial socialization influence green financial literacy through the mediating role of FinTech usage within a sustainability-oriented framework. Green financial literacy is treated as a proxy for sustainable financial behavior rather than a direct behavioral measure. Based on financial socialization theory, the study proposes an integrated model linking individual competencies, social learning processes, and digital financial technologies. Data were collected from 539 individuals using a structured questionnaire and analyzed with structural equation modeling (SEM) employing a robust weighted least squares estimator. The findings show that financial literacy (β = 0.76, p < 0.001) and financial socialization (β = 0.23, p < 0.001) significantly increase FinTech usage. While financial literacy does not directly affect green financial literacy (β = −0.13, p > 0.05), FinTech usage has a strong positive impact (β = 0.88, p < 0.001), indicating a full mediation effect. Bootstrapping results further confirm the robustness of the mediation effects. Financial socialization also has a direct positive effect (β = 0.20, p < 0.01). The results suggest that financial knowledge alone is insufficient to support sustainability-oriented financial awareness unless it is supported by digital financial technologies. The study highlights the key role of FinTech in facilitating the integration of financial knowledge and social learning into sustainability-oriented financial awareness and decision-making and offers practical implications for promoting sustainable finance.

Günen, Mehmet Akif; Türk, Salih
Wildfires are serious environmental disasters that threaten ecosystem sustainability, reduce biodiversity, and disrupt the global carbon cycle. This study aimed to improve the accuracy and interpretability of burned area mapping in the Bodrum, Köyceğiz, and Marmaris districts of Muğla province, Türkiye, by integrating multi-sensor satellite data with ensemble machine learning and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 imagery were processed to derive 50 optical and radar-based features, which were classified using four ensemble methods: AdaBoost.M1, Random Forest, GentleBoost, and RUSBoost. The SHapley Additive exPlanations framework was applied to quantify the contribution of each feature and guide feature selection. Results indicated that Sentinel-2 spectral indices, particularly NBR, NBRSWIR, and bands B12 and B8, were the most decisive variables for burned area classification, while Sentinel-1 features contributed less strongly overall but the IVH_ratio variable emerged as the most informative radar-based indicator. Among the classifiers, AdaBoost.M1 achieved the most stable and accurate performance, Random Forest showed strong sensitivity to spectral variability, GentleBoost performed effectively with reduced feature sets, and RUSBoost addressed class imbalance but showed weaker spatial continuity. Importantly, classification accuracy saturated after approximately 15 features, demonstrating that high accuracy can be achieved with fewer inputs and lower computational demand. Moreover, McNemar’s statistical test confirmed that the observed differences among classifiers were significant, highlighting GentleBoost’s clear superiority over other methods. Overall, the integration of optical and radar data with XAI provides a transparent, efficient, and replicable framework for operational burned area monitoring in Mediterranean ecosystems.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Multi-criteria techno-economic evaluation of electric buses with vehicle-integrated photovoltaic for enhanced sustainability
Başoğlu, Mustafa Engin
This study presents a multi-criteria techno-economic evaluation of electric buses (e-buses) equipped with vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) to support the global transition toward zero-emission transportation. Aligned with international climate goals like the Paris Agreement and the European Union's 2050 carbon neutrality target, the research assesses ten 12-meter and 18-meter commercial e-bus models from various manufacturers. A computationally efficient methodology is employed, utilizing PVGIS-derived global horizontal irradiation (GHI) data specifically for Gümüşhane, Türkiye. The evaluation framework simultaneously analyzes several critical indicators: PV-based range extension, CO2 emission reduction, grid-connected charging frequency, battery depth of discharge (DoD), and payback period (PP). Findings from the baseline scenario—assuming 50% usable roof area and 22% module efficiency—reveal that e-buses can achieve a daily PV range of up to 19.16 km and annual CO2 emission savings ranging from 1709 to 2596 kg. Additionally, VIPV integration effectively mitigates battery aging by providing a peak DoD reduction of 6.91% and decreases grid-charging dependency by up to 5% during high-irradiance months. In an optimistic scenario featuring 80% usable roof area and 30.1% efficiency, the daily PV range reaches a maximum of 46 km, while the reduction in grid-charging frequency improves significantly to 21.16%. Economic assessments, including Net Present Value (NPV) analysis, confirm the investment's viability, with PPs as short as 3.76 years. This research provides a comprehensive, scalable framework and practical guidance for municipalities and fleet operators to enhance the sustainability of public transport (PT) through solar energy integration.

This study diagnoses monthly trends in streamflow magnitude and regime for the Susurluk Basin (Türkiye), which spans semi-arid and mountainous sub-climates. Monthly records from 1990 to 2019 were analyzed at 14 stream gauges and nine precipitation stations. Trends are assessed with the Mann–Kendall (MK) test alongside recent graphical approaches, Improved Visualization for Innovative Trend Analyses (IV-ITA) to resolve value class-based (low/high) behavior, and Innovative Polygon Trend Analysis (IPTA) with the Star Concept to quantify intra-annual transitions. Before the trend analyses, the stations were tested to determine whether their values were homogeneous, and any inhomogeneous stations were excluded from the study. The consistency between the trends of nine precipitation stations and the streamflow data in the basin was analyzed. Across the basin, the average streamflow increased by approximately 40–60% between January and March at many measurement points. However, it then decreased by around 80% in April, albeit at a more moderate rate in December. This suggests significant rebalancing occurred during the December–April period, when most of the annual streamflow occurs. IV-ITA exhibits broadly similar trends for both low and high streamflow classes, with notable exceptions in January–February. Precipitation–streamflow trend directions are largely consistent in the high-flow season (December–April), supporting the notion that climatic control influences the detected shifts. To contextualize these signals, basin-wide land-use/land-cover shifts (1990–2018), notably urban growth, forest expansion, and cropland reconfiguration, provide process context, indicating that a larger fraction of rainfall is routed as fast surface runoff while infiltration and base streamflow recharge decline, alongside seasonally modified water demand. Collectively, the MK+IV-ITA+IPTA framework reveals class-specific and intra-annual dynamics that are obscured by monolithic tests alone and provides decision-relevant evidence for allocation, drought–flood risk, and operations in an intensively managed basin.
