- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Cortical thickness and volume alterations in patients with high myopia: a magnetic resonance imaging study
Aydin, Emre; Palanci, Ozgur
Background: The retina and optic nerve are integral components of the visual system and maintain direct anatomical and functional connections with the brain. Both structures are markedly affected in high myopia (HM). Accordingly, characterizing brain structural alterations associated with HM may provide important insights into its underlying neurobiological mechanisms. Using brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), this study aimed to evaluate regional gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) volume changes, their relative percentages, and cortical thickness alterations in individuals with HM. Methods: High-resolution structural MRI, together with visual acuity (VA), intraocular pressure (IOP), refractive error, axial length (AL), and anterior chamber depth (ACD), was used to compare 30 adults with HM and 22 healthy controls (HC). Regional brain volumes and cortical thickness were analyzed in the fusiform gyrus (FuG), inferior temporal gyrus (ITG), middle temporal gyrus (MTG), superior temporal gyrus (STG), and occipital subregions including the calcarine cortex (Calc), cuneus (Cun), lingual gyrus (LiG), inferior occipital gyrus (IOG), middle occipital gyrus (MOG), and superior occipital gyrus (SOG). Results: Compared with HCs, HM patients demonstrated significant volumetric increases in the ITG and MTG regions (all p < 0.05), with the left ITG remaining significant after false discovery rate (FDR) correction. No significant volumetric differences were observed in the fusiform or occipital regions. In contrast, cortical thickness analyses revealed significant thinning in the fusiform gyrus and bilateral occipital subregions, including the calcarine cortex, cuneus, lingual gyrus, and middle occipital gyrus (p = 0.000–0.026, FDR-corrected). Cortical thickness in the fusiform and occipital regions showed negative correlations with AL and ACD and positive correlations with spherical equivalent. Conclusions: High myopia is associated with region-specific brain structural alterations, characterized by volumetric increases in temporal regions and cortical thinning in fusiform and occipital areas, indicating that HM-related neuroanatomical changes extend beyond the ocular system to involve central nervous system structures. Trial registration: Not applicable.

Kösetevek grape is a significant indigenous black grape variety with colored pulp, grown in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye. Mash heating (MH) is commonly used in grape juice production. However, to better preserve phenolic, aroma, and nutritional components, Thermosonication (TS) process is utilized as an alternative technique. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of TS conditions on the physicochemical and sensory properties of grape juice obtained from Kösetevek grapes. Grape juice underwent TS at various temperatures and ultrasound energy density (UED) levels, followed by an optimization study using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Grape juice samples were analyzed for total phenolic content (TP), total monomeric anthocyanins (TMA), antioxidant activity (FRAP and DPPH), polymeric color ratio (PCR), color difference (ΔE*), and extraction yield. The optimum TS conditions were determined as 801.99 J/g UED and 43.5 °C (desirability value = 0.595). Under optimal conditions, anthocyanin profiles were characterized by HPLC, aroma compounds were identified using GC–MS, and sensory properties were evaluated by descriptive analysis. TS resulted in a significant increase in TP and TMA content. The ΔE* value was lower, suggesting that the product's natural color was better preserved. TS enhanced the phenolic content and yield of the grape juice while also contributing to the preservation of color and sensory properties. TS juice contained the highest concentrations of aroma compounds, particularly C6 compounds and higher alcohols. This characteristic made TS more effective at preserving fresh aromas compared to MH, which generated cooked odors. Overall, TS has the potential to be applied as an alternative to or together with traditional thermal processes in industrial production.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Predefined time adaptive controller design for attitude synchronisation of chaotic satellites with unknown effects
Bingöl, Özhan
This study proposes a practical predefined-time adaptive control framework for the synchronisation and anti-synchronisation of chaotic satellite attitude dynamics subject to unknown nonlinearities, parametric uncertainties, and bounded external disturbances. The proposed controller combines radial-basis-function (RBF) neural-network approximation of lumped unknown dynamics with adaptive estimation laws for both physically meaningful satellite parameters and neural-network weights. A Lyapunov-based stability analysis proves that all closed-loop signals remain bounded and that the synchronisation errors converge to an explicitly characterised residual neighbourhood of the origin within a predefined upper-bound time independent of initial conditions. The residual bound is expressed in terms of the neural approximation error, adaptive gains, and predefined-time design parameters, thereby providing practical tuning insight. Comparative numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves fast convergence, reduced actuator effort, and improved robustness under varying inertia, disturbances, and initial conditions. These results indicate the suitability of the proposed method for satellite formation and attitude-control tasks requiring predictable convergence times and resilience to modelling uncertainties.

This study aimed to evaluate the phytochemical composition and biological activities of Ferulago platycarpa methanol extract (ME) and essential oil (EO). The EO was obtained via hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS, revealing sesquiterpene hydrocarbons as the dominant class, with caryophyllene (65.8%) and α-pinene (9.65%) as the major constituents. The methanol extract was subjected to LC-MS/MS analysis, which identified eleven phenolic compounds, with chlorogenic acid as the most abundant. The extract showed significantly higher total phenolic (1196.22±11.64 mg GAE/100g) and antioxidant (1870.00±17.69 mg QEE/100g) contents compared to the ME. In vitro enzyme inhibition assays demonstrated that the methanol extract exhibited potent inhibitory activity against carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II, ICSO= 0.023 pg/mL), acetylcholinesterase (AChE, ICSO= 110 pg/mL), and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE, IC50= 390 pg/mL). In contrast, the EO showed higher inhibition against α-amylase (IC50= 5920±10.45 pg/mL) and BChE (IC50= 1.32±0.65 pg/mL), while its α-glucosidase showed no inhibition. Antioxidant assays indicated superior activity for the methanol extract compared to the EO. Furthermore, antimicrobial testing revealed that the EO demonstrated broader and more effective antimicrobial action, exhibiting lower MIC and MBC values against several bacterial and fungal strains. Collectively, these results highlight F. platycarpa as a valuable source of bioactive compounds with promising applications in antidiabetic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, and antimicrobial therapies.

The antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis is not merely a consequence of the emergence ofresistant pathogens. Furthermore, the remaining shortcomings oftraditional antibiotic production and development processes have become a profound health threat, exacerbated by their pharmaceutical and pharmacokinetic limitations. This book chapter redefines the AMR crisis as a problem of drug and treatment discovery as well as drug delivery to target tissues, and examines the technological angle emerging at the intersection of nanotechnology and artificial intelligence (AI) in response to this problem. This review begins by examining the problems inherent in traditional antibiotic architecture, such as systemic toxicity, low bioavailability, poor stability, and, most importantly, the inability to penetrate protected sites such as bacterial biofilms or intracellular bunkers. Ductile irons (spheroidal graphite cast irons, SGI) are widely used in automotive and energy systems due to their high strength, ductility, and excellent machinability. The casting quality of these alloys largely depends on the flow and filling behavior of the molten metal, namely its fluidity. In this study, the effects of pouring temperature, filling time, and metallurgical quality on the fluidity of GGG40 ductile iron were investigated through both experimental and numerical approaches. Experimental trials were conducted at pouring temperatures of 1350 °C, 1400 °C, and 1450 °C; metallurgical quality levels of 10%, 50%, and 90%; and filling times of 5 s and 10 s. The fluidity lengths were measured and statistically evaluated. The results revealed that increasing the pouring temperature and metallurgical quality significantly improved fluidity, while shorter filling times allowed the molten metal to travel longer distances before solidification. Modeling studies performed using a commercial casting simulation software showed strong correlation with the experimental data. Microstructural examinations indicated that higher pouring temperatures and improved metallurgical quality led to a more homogeneous distribution of graphite nodules and an increased ferrite fraction in the matrix. The findings provide valuable insights into the influence of process parameters on the fluidity behavior of ductile iron and offer critical design data for enhancing casting quality and productivity in industrial foundry applications.

The post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) effect has been widely studied; however, studies conducted under real-world conditions remain limited. Furthermore, investigations into how different conditioning activities (CAs) influence PAPE responses are also scarce. Therefore, this study investigates the acute effects of high-intensity barbell hip thrust (BHT) and back squat (BS) exercises, performed after a soccer-specific warm-up (Wup), on physical performance in soccer players. Seventeen male amateur soccer players participated in the study (mean age: 22.29 ± 3.60 years; height: 1.78 ± 0.06 m; body weight: 73.18 ± 8.44 kg). Participants attended 5 experimental sessions. In the first session, after anthropometric assessments, participants were familiarized with the exercises and tests. In the second session, one-repetition maximum (1RM) was tested for BS and HT exercises. In the following three sessions, two PAPE protocols and one traditional (TRAD) protocol were performed in a randomized order. In the TRAD protocol, players performed physical performance tests including countermovement jump (CMJ), 10-m and 30-m sprint, and zigzag agility 16 minutes after a soccer-specific Wup. In the PAPE protocols, players performed CAs (e.g., hip thrust or back squat) at 85% of 1RM for 2 sets of 3 repetitions following a soccer-specific Wup, and completed the tests 8 minutes later. Results from the linear mixed-effects models revealed no significant effect of protocol on any performance variable, including CMJ (F(2,32) = 1.554, p = 0.227), 10 m sprint (F(2,32) = 0.242, p = 0.786), 30 m sprint (F(2,32) = 0.453, p = 0.640), and change of direction (COD) performance (F(2,32) = 0.946, p = 0.399). Marginal R² values indicated that the protocol explained only a minimal proportion of variance in performance outcomes (0.005–0.030), whereas conditional R² and ICC values suggested that between-participant differences accounted for a substantial proportion of variance, particularly for CMJ and 30 m sprint performance. Bonferroni-adjusted pairwise comparisons further showed no significant differences between PAPEBHT, PAPEBS, and TRAD protocols for CMJ, 10 m sprint, 30 m sprint, or COD performance (all p > 0.05). In conclusion, neither PAPE protocol performed after a soccer-specific warm-up significantly enhanced or impaired subsequent CMJ, sprint, or COD performance compared with the traditional warm-up. These findings suggest that adding PAPEBHT or PAPEBS protocols after a soccer-specific warm-up may maintain subsequent performance without inducing measurable decrements; however, their ergogenic effectiveness may depend on individual factors such as players’ strength levels, recovery capacity, training status, and physical characteristics.

Korkmaz, Emine; Uzun, Sevda; Aydın, Esra
Objectives This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of ShotBlocker use on pain levels during needle-related procedures in adults. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Data sources Studies were searched in the PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Higher Education Council (YÖK) Thesis Center databases without any year restrictions. Review/Analysis methods The search and study selection were conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, and 18 studies meeting the inclusion criteria were included in the analysis. Data extraction and methodological quality assessment were performed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools. Findings were evaluated using meta-analysis and narrative synthesis methods. Results In this systematic review and meta-analysis, ShotBlocker was found to be effective in reducing pain levels in adults (SMD = −1,011; 95% CI: −1.390 to −0.631; Z = −5,221; p < .001; I² = 91.4%). However, substantial heterogeneity was observed among the included studies (I² = 91.4%). Conclusions This study demonstrates that ShotBlocker may be an effective nonpharmacological method for reducing pain levels during needle-related procedures in adults. However, the results should be interpreted with caution because of the substantial heterogeneity among the included studies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Motion-Robust Optical Granulometry for Comminution Circuits: A Multi-Stream Temporal Deep Learning Framework
Hasozdemir, Kursat; Meral, Mert; Kahraman, Muhammet Mustafa
Accurate near-real-time granulometry is critical for optimizing energy efficiency in comminution circuits, yet standard optical monitoring systems fail under the harsh conditions of industrial mining. High conveyor velocities induce motion blur, while heavy dust loads occlude particle boundaries, leading to severe under-counting of fine fractions and an overestimation of product coarseness. This paper proposes a novel tracking framework to overcome these limitations. The method integrates a five-frame temporal rolling buffer with a multi-stream augmentation architecture that decouples motion and texture features. Experimental validation on the feed of a secondary conical crusher at an operational facility demonstrates that the proposed framework recovers significant particle data lost by baseline models, correcting the measured D80 and D50 values of the crushed material. This correction reveals a finer true load, enabling more precise closed-loop control of crusher settings and reducing unnecessary energy consumption.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Stationarity or nonlinear nonstationarity? Assessing standard duration extreme rainfall under Türkiye’s complex topography and climate variability
Şahin, Nagehan; Şan, Murat; Kankal, Murat
The impact of climate change on extreme rainfall regimes requires a reassessment of the design processes of traditional hydrological structures. For this purpose, conducting an in-depth analysis of the nonstationary nature of extreme rainfall in regions with complex topography and climate is of great importance. This study examines the stationary and nonstationary states of standard duration (5 min–24 h) annual maximum rainfall data across Türkiye. For this purpose, the intensity-duration-frequency relationship was analyzed using data at 100 homogeneous stations during 1980–2020. The analyses were performed using the generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution with eight linear and non linear location and scale parameters, based on stationary and nonstationary models. Time was included as a covariate in nonstationary models. The corrected akaike information criterion and likelihood ratio test were used to select the appropriate GEV distribution. Findings indicate that stationarity is generally dominant, but nonstationarity is relatively higher in a nonlinear manner in cold climates and complex topography. The effect of location and scale parameters was found to be individual in the short duration and combined in the long duration. It was observed that nonstationarity was relatively higher in complex topography than in flatter regions up to 8 h. Still, the diversity of nonlinear models decreased over the long duration. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the need to consider nonstationary approaches in designing hydrological structures, especially in climate change.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Greenwashing in Wood Substitute Products: The Case of PVC Window Frames
Top, Yener
Wood is a renewable material, and advancements in machinery have made it possible to produce wood-based products in large quantities. This has led to environmental problems, which in turn have increased consumers’ environmental concern. This concern has caused consumers to prefer environmental-friendly products. Alongside green products and green marketing, greenwashing practices, which are not actually green but exploit consumer sensitivity, have also become widespread. These deceptive claims confuse consumers and provide an unfair competitive advantage against genuinely environmentally friendly products. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) windows, which can be used as a substitute for wood windows, were chosen as a research focus, and the greenwashing practices of enterprises manufacturing PVC window were investigated. The research was conducted using deductive content analysis. The corporate websites of the enterprises were examined in terms of greenwashing. Artificial intelligence was used, but identified greenwashing types were checked by the researcher. The study found that PVC window manufacturers most frequently resorted to greenwashing involving no proof, vagueness, and hidden trade-off approaches. Greenwashing types were also examined by topics, revealing that “general environmental benefits” is the most common type.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Detrital zircon ages, Lu-Hf isotopes of zircon grains, Sr-Nd isotopes on whole rock and geochemistry of Campanian turbidites in the Eastern Pontides (NE Türkiye): A provenance assessment and Gondwana records
Eker, Çiğdem Saydam; Yücel, Cem; Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Aydınçakır, Emre; Jeong, Youn-Joong; Yılmazer, Sinan; Sünnetçi, Kadir
Detrital zircons are crucial stand-ins for the history of continental crust growth and disintegration, as well as the dispersal and assembly of supercontinents. Detrital zircons are effectively used to assess crustal history because sediments transport zircons from source rocks that are no longer at the surface. This study presents detailed Lu-Hf isotopic, U-Pb geochronological analyses of zircon, Sr-Nd isotopic analyses and whole-rock geochemical results from sandstone, volcanically derived sandstone and tuff samples of the Campanian-aged Bozbent Member in the Eastern Pontide Orogen belt of the Sakarya Zone. Sedimentological analyses show that the Bozbent Member was transported and deposited by turbidite currents, while petrographic and geochemical analyses show that the sandstones range from greywacke to litharenite. In this study, U-Pb ages of detrital zircon obtained from Campanian sandstones are presented, along with in situ εHf data. A magmatic origin is indicated by the majority of zircons' oscillatory zoning and by Th/U ratios ranging from 0.2 to 1.5. The ages of detrital zircons range from 2819 to 78 Ma, with most of these zircons being Proterozoic (552–994 Ma). Proterozoic zircons are detrital zircons associated with the Gondwana and the African Craton. The whole-rock geochemical data and Sr-Nd isotope compositions of the sandstones are consistent with local Carboniferous felsic plutons, Jurassic mafic and felsic plutons, Jurassic volcanic rocks, Jurassic clastic rocks and clastic material from Precambrian recycled sediments. It was calculated that more than 90% of the detrital zircons had crystallisation ages older than their depositional ages (CA-DA > 150 Ma, indicative of an extensional basin model). These findings indicate that the Campanian-aged Bozbent Member turbiditic sequence in the Eastern Pontides was deposited in an extensional fore-arc basin and therefore exhibits the petrographic and geochemical characteristics of passive margin sandstones.

In this study, the enzyme inhibitory, antibacterial, and anticancer activities of a phthalonitrile derivative and its metal phthalocyanines (Pcs; indium, zinc, copper, cobalt, and manganese; 1–6) were investigated. The cobalt and manganese Pcs were synthesized for the first time in this study. The inhibitory activities of the symmetric Pcs, which were expected to interact with acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) via their 4-(isopropylbenzyl)oxy substituents through host–guest interactions, were investigated. More selective inhibition of AChE than BChE was observed for these compounds. For AChE, CoPc was identified as the most potent inhibitor (IC50 = 14.81 nM), whereas for BChE, InPc was identified as the most potent inhibitor (IC50 = 56.35 nM). The Ki values indicated that most compounds exhibited competitive inhibition; copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) showed particularly strong inhibition against AChE (Ki = 3.08 nM ± 1.12), whereas the lowest Ki value against BChE was observed for MnPc (Ki = 25.98 ± 1.97 nM). Most compounds exhibited competitive inhibition; however, CuPc showed competitive inhibition toward AChE but a noncompetitive inhibition pattern toward BChE. Dual inhibition of AChE and BChE by these compounds may be promising for addressing cholinergic deficits associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, the acceptability of compounds 1–6 with respect to pharmacological drug-likeness criteria was assessed based on predicted absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion (ADME) outcomes. In antibacterial tests, varying levels of inhibition were observed against selected bacterial strains. In anticancer assays, all compounds exhibited high cytotoxicity against the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. Higher antiproliferative activity was observed for CuPc than for the other compounds. Morphological changes were induced in cancer cells by CuPc and MnPc. Overall, these compounds may have potential as enzyme inhibitors and as antibacterial and anticancer agents.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Arctic governance through discourse: Arctic and Arctic council observer states
Limon, Onur; Gürdal Limon, Elif
This article examines how Arctic governance is discursively constituted through national Arctic policy and strategy documents and how these discursive constructions differentiate governance roles between Arctic states and Arctic Council observer states. Rather than treating national strategies as neutral policy instruments, the study conceptualizes them as political texts that articulate authority, responsibility, and legitimacy within an asymmetrical governance system. Methodologically, the article employs qualitative discourse analysis of the most recent official Arctic strategies of eight Arctic states and twelve observer states. Using MAXQDA (version 24), the analysis is organized around six thematic domains: security policy; climate change and environment; international cooperation; resource management; Indigenous peoples and rights; and economic development and sustainability. The findings reveal a high degree of discursive convergence across both actor groups, particularly around climate change, sustainability, environmental protection, and cooperation. However, this convergence does not indicate substantive policy alignment or egalitarian governance. Arctic states frame governance through narratives of sovereignty, stewardship, and regulatory responsibility, while observer states construct legitimacy through scientific contribution, multilateralism, and normative alignment. The article argues that discursive convergence can function as a kind of governance infrastructure that enables participation while tending to stabilize asymmetrical authority.

Yapıcı, İsmail; Gülçin, İlhami
Phenolic compounds are versatile bioactive molecules, particularly in food applications. In this study, the antioxidant capacity of Shogaol, a member of the phenolic class, was evaluated using several methods. Additionally, its inhibitory effects on human carbonic anhydrase I and II (hCA I and II), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), α-glycosidase, and α-amylase enzymes, as well as its antiproliferative effects on A-549 lung cancer, HT-29 colon cancer, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-453 breast cancer cell lines, and the 3T3-L1 mouse fibroblast normal cell line, were investigated. To determine the antioxidant capacity of Shogaol, DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays, as well as Cu²⁺, Fe³⁺, and FRAP reduction methods, were employed. Its inhibitory effects on hCA I and II, AChE, BChE, α-glycosidase, and α-amylase enzymes were examined. Furthermore, cell counting was performed using the TBE method, and cell viability was measured with the XTT assay to assess the antiproliferative effects of Shogaol on A-549, HT-29, MCF-7, MDA-MB-453, and 3T3-L1 cell lines. Shogaol demonstrated higher antioxidant capacity than BHA, BHT, and Trolox in the FRAP assay (60 µg/mL), higher than BHT in the DPPH scavenging assay, and higher than Trolox in the ABTS, Cu²⁺, and Fe³⁺ reduction assays. Shogaol also exhibited significant inhibitory effects against hCA I, hCA II, AChE, BChE, and α-glycosidase, with IC₅₀ values of 75.91, 47.04, 37.44, 24.11, and 35.72 nM, respectively. Moreover, Shogaol showed a more potent antiproliferative effect than the standard chemotherapeutic drug Carboplatin in A-549 lung cancer and HT-29 colon cancer cell lines, and greater efficacy than Docetaxel in the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line.

Nonuterine leiomyosarcoma (NU-LMS) is a rare and biologically distinct subtype of soft tissue sarcoma (STS) with clinical behavior differing from that of uterine leiomyosarcoma. In advanced or metastatic STS, immunotherapy has demonstrated only modest activity, and chemotherapy remains the cornerstone of treatment. However, there is a persistent unmet need for more effective and better-tolerated options in this population. This multicenter, retrospective study included 150 patients with histologically confirmed metastatic NU-LMS who received first-line doxorubicin-ifosfamide (AI) or gemcitabine-docetaxel (GD) at 26 oncology centers in Turkey between 2010 and 2024. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS). Survival was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier estimates and Cox proportional hazards models. Of 150 patients, 79 received AI and 71 received GD. Median OS for the entire cohort was 21.0 months. Median OS was 22.0 months with AI and 19.1 months with GD (p = .18), median progression-free survival was 7.3 versus 6.1 months (p = .66), and overall response rate was 25.3% versus 29.6% (p = .58), indicating no statistically significant differences in efficacy between the two regimens. Hematologic toxicities were less frequent with GD. AI and GD demonstrated comparable efficacy as first-line regimens for advanced or metastatic NU-LMS, with fewer hematologic toxicities observed for GD. Tumor location may have prognostic implications. These findings support individualized treatment selection and highlight the need for prospective studies in this rare and understudied sarcoma subtype, while the recent LMS-04 trial underscores the importance of future comparisons with doxorubicin-trabectedin to further refine first-line strategies in LMS.

This nationwide, multicenter point-prevalence study aimed to describe current mechanical ventilation mode preferences (conventional, adaptive, and biphasic) in Turkish ICUs and to report associated clinical outcomes descriptively, without assessing causal relationships. Materials and methods: A nationwide, multicenter point-prevalence study was conducted on 17 April 2024 and included adult patients (>= 18 years) who had been receiving IMV for more than 24 h. Data on patient demographics, ventilation mode distribution, ventilatory parameters, and descriptive clinical outcomes on day 28 (weaning status, tracheostomy, and mortality) were recorded without comparative outcome analysis. Results: A total of 426 patients were included. Conventional modes were used in 84.5% of patients, adaptive modes in 10.6%, and biphasic modes in 4.9%. Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation (SIMV) was the most commonly used conventional mode. The primary indication for IMV was acute respiratory failure (61%), with pneumonia being the leading cause. Among the 350 orotracheally intubated patients, 25.6% were in the weaning phase on the study day. A total of 59 (16.9%) patients were extubated, 150 (42.9%) underwent tracheostomy, and 64 (18.2%) remained intubated on day 28. Overall, 185 (43.4%) patients died during their ICU stay, 152 (35.7%) remained in the ICU, and 89 (20.9%) were successfully discharged from the ICU. Conclusion: Conventional ventilation modes, particularly SIMV, were more commonly used in Turkish intensive care units (ICUs), whereas adaptive modes were less frequently applied. These patterns may reflect factors such as clinician familiarity, institutional practices, and equipment availability rather than definitive preferences. Although the impact of ventilation modes on clinical outcomes was not comparatively evaluated in this study, the choice of ventilation mode may still influence patient outcomes. Therefore, further prospective and comparative studies are warranted to better elucidate this relationship.
