- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2A comprehensive optimization framework for indoor laser-based optical wireless communication using gimbal-steered transmitters
Başer, Oğuzhan; Küçük, Mehmet Ali; Türk, Kadir
The growing demand for high-speed wireless communication, driven by data-intensive applications such as high-definition video streaming and augmented reality, has highlighted the limitations of the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) has emerged as a promising complementary technology, offering wide bandwidth, license-free operation, high security, and immunity to electromagnetic interference. Among OWC transmitters, Laser Diodes (LDs) provide high modulation bandwidth and narrow divergence angles, enabling data rates of several tens of gigabits per second. However, the narrow beam of LDs requires precise Line-of-Sight (LoS) alignment, making beam steering essential. This study focuses on optimizing the positioning and orientation of gimbal- or galvo-based LD transmitters in indoor OWC systems to minimize outage probability under LoS constraints and physical obstructions. An outage probability model considering room geometry and device field-of-view angles is developed and analyzed for three scenarios within a 7 × 5 m room: an empty environment, a room with a 1 × 1 m column, and a user-occupancy-aware environment. The complex optimization problem is solved using multiple meta-heuristic algorithms, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), L-SHADE, and Stochastic Fractal Search with Fitness-Distance Balance (FDB-SFS). The obtained results are subsequently validated through grid search approach. The proposed approach achieves significant outage reduction, demonstrating that incorporating obstacle and user-distribution information enables efficient coverage with fewer terminals, reaching outage probabilities as low as 0.4%.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Investigation of the Antioxidant, Antibacterial, and Food Safety Potential of Silver and Copper Nanoparticles Green Synthesized Using Pointed Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus L.) Extract
Kobya, Havva Nur; Gül, Abdulkadir; Karpuz, Ömer; Baltacı, Cemalettin
This study reports the green synthesis of silver (PFAgNPs) and copper (PFCuNPs) nanoparticles using an aqueous extract of pointed cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus L.) fruit (PF-E) and explores their applicability in food safety. The NPs were characterized via UV–Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, and TEM confirming their successful formation and morphology. Total phenolic content (TPC), flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant capacity (TAC) were measured for both PF-E and the synthesized NPs. While PFCuNPs exhibited higher TPC, PFAgNPs showed superior TFC and TAC. Notably, antioxidant assays (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP) indicated stronger radical scavenging activity for PFCuNPs. Antibacterial tests against Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa revealed broad-spectrum activity of PFAgNPs, with the highest inhibition against E. coli (19.4 ± 0.3 mm), whereas PFCuNPs showed dose-dependent efficacy, strongest against E. faecalis (9.6 ± 0.2 mm). LC–MS/MS analysis of the PF-E extract revealed quinic acid (63.42 mg/g), chlorogenic acid (2.38 mg/g), protocatechuic acid (0.07 mg/g), protocatechuic aldehyde (0.04 mg/g), hesperidin (0.03 mg/g), and naringenin (0.02 mg/g) as major components. The adsorption efficiencies of the synthesized PFAgNPs and PFCuNPs were evaluated against the toxic food contaminants patulin and HMF using both standard aqueous solutions and real food systems (apple juice). In standard aqueous solutions, PFAgNPs achieved removal efficiencies of 70.96% for patulin and 52.22% for HMF, while PFCuNPs showed 61.08% and 36.38%, respectively, at 5 g/L after 240 min. In real food systems, the adsorption efficiencies decreased, with PFAgNPs and PFCuNPs removing 34.24% and 32.90% of patulin, and 39.09% and 31.87% of HMF, respectively. The adsorption kinetics of HMF and patulin onto PFCuNP and PFAgNP were found to conform to both the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models for aqueous solutions as well as real samples. These findings confirm that the biosynthesized NPs offer dual functionality as antibacterial agents and toxin adsorbents, presenting a green, sustainable approach to food safety enhancement.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Psychological dynamics shaping performance perception in athletes: the influence of coaching behaviours, psychological safety, self-efficacy, and resilience
Sakallı, Derya; Şenel, Ender; Menteş, Görkem; Salman, Kaan
This study aimed to examine how athletes’ perceptions of supportive and controlling coaching behaviours influence their perceived performance through the mediating effects of psychological safety, self-efficacy, and psychological resilience. Unlike previous work, this study integrates these three psychological factors into a single structural model, offering a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms linking coaching behaviours to performance perceptions. Data were collected from 369 Turkish athletes representing different sports and competitive levels using validated self-report questionnaires. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to analyse the direct and indirect relationships among variables. The results revealed that supportive coaching behaviours positively predicted perceived performance through increased psychological safety, self-efficacy, and resilience, whereas controlling coaching behaviours had the opposite effect. Among the mediators, self-efficacy emerged as the strongest predictor of performance perception. These findings provide novel evidence that psychological safety and resilience strengthen this relationship by fostering adaptive and confident athlete functioning. The study contributes to the literature by demonstrating the integrative role of psychological resources within the frameworks of self-determination and social cognitive theories. Practically, it underscores the importance of supportive coaching practices that enhance psychological resources essential for sustained motivation, well-being, and optimal performance.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ4The Cybernetics of Gomi: Transhumanism, Materiality, and the Expulsion of the Subject in William Gibson’s The Winter Market (1986)
Uruk, Ahmet
Referred to by Julian Huxley in his 1957 work New Bottles for New Wine, transhumanism champions the use of science and technology to transcend human biological limits and attain a “posthuman” state. While science fiction frequently familiarizes audiences with these speculative dimensions, William Gibson’s short story The Winter Market (1986) exposes the dehumanizing impacts of technological immortality and mind uploading in a cyberpunk world. Rather than presenting a seamless techno-utopian future, Gibson’s narrative centers on the concept of gomi—Japanese for trash or junk—to illustrate the literal and psychological expulsion of the human subject. Therefore, this paper argues that The Winter Market uses the material reality of gomi as its core structural and thematic focus, exposing how advanced capitalism and cybernetic technology reduce the organic body, human experience, and artistic expression to marketable, discarded commodities. Through a close reading of Gibson’s distinct language and narrative form, this study, ultimately, interrogates the trade-offs of technological transcendence, demonstrating how the pursuit of disembodied immortality culminates in alienation and the fragmentation of authentic identity.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Monte Carlo calculation of geometry-dependent true coincidence summing correction factors for the gamma-rays of 214Bi in HPGe detectors
Çelik, Necati
True coincidence summing (TCS) effects in gamma-ray spectrometry introduce significant systematic uncertainties in activity determinations, particularly for radionuclides with complex decay schemes such as 214Bi. This study presents a comprehensive Monte Carlo investigation of TCS correction factors (CFs) for seven major gamma-ray lines of 214Bi. The primary contribution of this study is the systematic decoupling of detector geometry effects: nine distinct HPGe detector configurations were simulated with varying crystal dimensions, dead layers, and hole geometries, followed by an isolated analysis of crystal radius versus crystal length contributions for both point and extended source geometries. The decay scheme of 214Bi was meticulously modeled using Nucleide 2000 data, incorporating all beta branches, gamma transitions, internal conversion coefficients, and cascade probabilities to ensure high-fidelity representation of the decay scheme. Results demonstrate that crystal radius exerts a substantially stronger influence on TCS CFs than crystal length, with point source values at 609.3 keV increasing by 18.2% across the radius range of 2.1–4.5 cm, compared to only 3.7% variation across the length range of 3–11 cm. Extended source geometries reduce TCS CFs by 5%–11% compared to point sources across all configurations, highlighting the mitigating effect of distributed sources. Energy-dependent behavior is also evident: the 609.3 keV line exhibits strong summing-in (CF > 1.3 for large detectors), while the 1377.7 keV line shows dominant summing-out (CF < 0.86). These findings provide gamma-ray spectrometrists with insight into the relative importance of detector dimensions for TCS effects, suggesting that crystal radius is the primary geometric parameter influencing coincidence summing corrections. The observed trends illustrate how TCS corrections vary with detector dimensions, offering spectrometrists a basis for understanding the relative sensitivity of these corrections to different geometric parameters.

Objectives This study investigated the effect of the puppet-assisted House-Tree-Person Test (HTP-T) on fear and anxiety levels in children undergoing chemotherapy treatment and the factors influencing these outcomes. Methods The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design combined with HTP-T analysis. The study was conducted with 29 children aged 5–12 years receiving chemotherapy at the pediatric hematology-oncology outpatient clinics of a university hospital in the Eastern Black Sea Region of Türkiye during the 2022–2024 years. Data were collected using “the Demographic Information Form for Children and Parents, the Children's State Anxiety Scale (CSA), the Children's Fear Scale (CFS), and HTP-T". Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, repeated measures ANOVA, and HTP-T analysis. Results Statistically significant differences were observed in children's mean CSA (F = 3.898, p = 0.026, η2 = 0.122) and CFS (F = 5.313, p = 0.008, η2 = 0.159) scores across the pre-treatment, during-treatment, and post-treatment measurements. The HTP-T analysis revealed that children had difficulty regulating anxiety and fear, expressed concerns about family and environmental events, reported feelings of loneliness, and exhibited strong emotional attachment to their families. Conclusion The study demonstrated that incorporating puppet-assisted HTP-T during chemotherapy contributed to reducing children's fear and anxiety and offered a useful approach for identifying influencing factors. Implications for nursing practice HTP-T, a therapeutic play technique incorporating puppetry and projective methods, may be effective in reducing fear and anxiety among children undergoing chemotherapy.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3The effect of non-pharmacologic treatments in individuals with problematic pornography use: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Yıldız Karaahmet, Aysu; Bilgiç, Fatma Şule; Karakaş, Sevda
This study aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the effects of non-pharmacological treatments on problematic pornography use (PPU), pornography use frequency, sexual dysfunction, psychological symptoms, and quality of life in individuals with PPU. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, and Web of Science between June and July 2024. MeSH-based keywords were used to identify relevant Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) published in the last ten years. Five RCTs with a total of 826 participants were included. Non-pharmacological interventions significantly reduced PPU (SMD: −1.16; 95% CI: −2.10 to −0.22; p = 0.02) and pornography use frequency (SMD: −0.74; 95% CI: −1.43 to −0.05; p = 0.04) compared to control groups. No statistically significant effects were found for sexual dysfunction (SMD: −0.47; p = 0.05) or psychological symptoms (SMD: −0.42; p = 0.06), though moderate effects were observed. Risk of bias was high or unclear in terms of participant and outcome blinding. Non-pharmacological interventions appear effective in reducing PPU and use frequency. Although effects on sexual function and psychological symptoms were not significant, the findings suggest potential improvements in overall quality of life.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1The Spiritual Roots of Sustainable Consumption Among Muslim Consumers: Environmental and Health Consciousness as Mediating Pathways
Hacıkeleşoğlu, Hızır; Avcı, İbrahim; Vural, Muhammet Enes
Research on sustainable consumption has largely emphasized secular motivations, leaving the psychological role of spirituality/religiosity underexplored within Muslim societies. Addressing this gap, this study investigates the relationship between spirituality and sustainable consumption behaviors (SCBs) among Muslim consumers in Türkiye, with environmental and health consciousness examined as parallel mediating mechanisms. Data were collected from 414 adult Muslim consumers through an online survey and analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural path analysis via Hayes’ PROCESS macro (Model 4). The empirical findings indicate that spirituality is significantly and positively associated with sustainable consumption behaviors both directly and indirectly. Environmental consciousness emerged as a numerically stronger mediating pathway than health consciousness in the relationship between spirituality and sustainable consumption. Notably, when both mediators are included in the model, the direct path from spirituality to sustainable consumption behaviors becomes non-significant, consistent with a full-mediation pattern in the estimated model, in line with the value–attitude–behavior hierarchy. These results suggest that spirituality’s association with consumption decisions is, within the estimated model, transmitted through intervening attitudinal states. The study suggests that sustainable consumption initiatives in Muslim contexts can be meaningfully strengthened by integrating eco-friendly practices with consumers’ underlying spiritual and religious values.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2CsPbBr3 single-crystal growth by temperature-lowering method as a case study for EGS4 benchmarking against commercial radiation detectors
Akbulut Özen, Songül; Özen, Murat; Çelik, Necati
CsPbBr3 single-crystals were synthesized using a hydrobromic acid–based temperature-lowering method, and their structural and optical properties were confirmed by XRD, DSC, and UV–Vis analyses. A solubility curve was established to optimize growth conditions, enabling enlargement of the seeded crystals. The radiation detection potential of CsPbBr3 was evaluated using EGS4 Monte Carlo simulations across photon energies ranging from 10 keV to 1 MeV. Simulated full-energy peak efficiencies and resolution values were compared with conventional detectors (Si(Li), NaI, and HPGe) and with alternative perovskite derivatives (CH3NH3PbBr3, Cs4PbBr6, CsPb2Br5). CsPbBr3 exhibited efficiency scaling with detector volume and resolution behavior consistent with the statistical 1/√E dependence typical of direct-gap semiconductors. While HPGe maintained superior intrinsic resolution, CsPbBr3 offered promising room-temperature performance without cryogenic requirements. These results demonstrate that the temperature-lowering method provides a viable route to scalable CsPbBr3 single-crystals and confirm their potential as cost-effective, high-Z semiconductor detectors for X- and γ-ray applications. The findings establish a foundation for the further optimization of perovskite-based radiation detection technologies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Distribution and radiological risk assessment of natural and artificial radionuclides in soils from the Aktutan hydrothermal alteration zone, Türkiye
Kaya, Ali
This study investigates the distribution of natural radionuclides (226Ra, 232Th, and 40K) and the artificial radionuclide 137Cs in soil samples collected from the Aktutan hydrothermal alteration zone in Gümüşhane, Türkiye. Hydrothermal systems are known to enhance radionuclide mobility and enrichment due to fluid–rock interactions, making them important environments for radiological assessment. However, no previous comprehensive radiological study has been conducted in this region. A total of 12 soil samples were collected and analyzed using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry. The measured activity concentrations ranged from 16 to 58 Bq·kg−1 for 232Th, 5 to 282 Bq·kg−1 for 226Ra, and 246 to 647 Bq·kg−1 for 40K, while 137Cs was detected in several samples with a maximum value of 5.7 Bq·kg−1. The elevated 226Ra concentrations observed in specific locations may be associated with localized hydrothermal alteration and possible uranium enrichment. Radiological hazard parameters, including absorbed dose rate, annual effective dose, radium equivalent activity, and hazard indices, were calculated. Most values were within internationally recommended limits; however, two sampling sites exhibited elevated radiological risk indicators, particularly in terms of excess lifetime cancer risk. Although the number of samples is limited, the selected locations represent areas of intense hydrothermal alteration and provide preliminary insight into radionuclide distribution in the region. The findings highlight the importance of localized geological controls on radioactivity and suggest the need for continuous environmental monitoring in areas with elevated radionuclide concentrations.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Impacts of Phenolic Compounds Alone and in Combination with Natural Substances or Drugs on Cancer Cells
Budak, Burhan; Sarikaya, Sevim Beyza Ozturk
Phenolic compounds (PCs) are secondary metabolites found in the root and flower parts of plants that help protect the plant from pathogens. The amount and content of the plant species and the environment in which they live vary. Because PCs have antioxidant properties, they have a preventive effect against oxidising substances. Therefore, PCs in the human diet contribute to the prevention of cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, and many other diseases. Cancer is the most dangerous and deadly disease among these diseases today. Although many chemotherapeutic drugs are used against cancer, the tendency to use other drugs or other applications has increased because the effectiveness of chemotherapeutic drugs is low and healthy cells are damaged in the process. PCs boost the effectiveness of chemotherapeutic drugs against cancer cells while, preserving the health of other cells. In this review, in vivo and in vitro studies conducted in cancer lines, applications of PCs alone, combined applications of PCs with natural substances, and the effects of PCs with drugs were investigated and discussed. In conclusion, gallic acid, ellagic acid, caffeic acid, and ferulic acid are frequently used in cancer treatment. These findings highlight the potential of PCs as versatile adjuvants in cancer treatment, which can increase drug efficacy, protect healthy cells, and minimise toxicity. Consequently, they highlight the therapeutic potential of PCs as complementary agents in cancer treatment strategies.

- Derleme MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Marine microsporidia: Hidden diversity, aquatic emergence and zoonotic risks
Bekircan, Çağrı; Kurnaz, Muammer
Marine Microsporidia represent an increasingly important but historically underestimated group of aquatic intracellular parasites. Although traditionally associated with invertebrates and fishes, recent molecular and environmental studies have revealed extensive hidden diversity across marine ecosystems together with unexpected phylogenetic links between aquatic and human-associated lineages. This review synthesizes five decades of research (1975–2025) concerning the biology, evolution, taxonomy, host–pathogen interactions, ecological diversity, and zoonotic significance of marine Microsporidia. Particular emphasis is placed on members of the Enterocytozoonidae, including Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, Nucleospora spp., and Desmozoon lepeophtherii, which represent major threats to aquaculture sustainability and may contribute to cross-environmental transmission pathways. Environmental DNA studies further indicate that marine microsporidian diversity is substantially underestimated by morphology-based approaches. However, current evidence for zoonotic transmission remains largely indirect, resting chiefly on phylogenetic relatedness, shared genotypes across hosts and environmental (eDNA) detection; direct, seafood-borne human infection has not yet been demonstrated. Current evidence suggests that aquaculture intensification, climate-driven environmental change, and expanding seafood trade may facilitate the emergence and dissemination of zoonotic microsporidian lineages. Integrating marine Microsporidia into One Health surveillance frameworks is therefore increasingly important for both ecosystem and public health management.

Dağ, Murat; Bozbeyoğlu, Pınar; Gül, Abdulkadir; Karpuz, Ömer; Baltacı, Cemalettin
This study presents a combined evaluation of patulin contamination by integrating fungal identification, assessment of toxin production, and the feasibility of obtaining high-purity patulin from biological sources. Fungal isolates recovered from naturally decayed apples collected from different agricultural environments in Türkiye were identified using MALDI-TOF MS and morphological characteristics, and were assigned to Penicillium expansum at a probable species level. The patulin production potential of the isolates was evaluated by inoculating them onto red, yellow, and green apple matrices under controlled laboratory conditions over an extended incubation period. Quantitative analysis using HPLC–UV, supported by LC–MS/MS confirmation, revealed substantial variability in patulin levels (7.58–49.80 mg/kg) depending on both isolate and apple matrix. Higher patulin levels were generally observed in yellow apple tissues, whereas lower levels were detected in red apples, suggesting a possible influence of matrix-related compositional factors. In addition, patulin was isolated and enriched using column chromatography with TLC-guided fractionation, yielding a high-purity compound (98.8%) with low moisture content (0.21%). Structural identity was confirmed by LC–MS/MS analysis. Overall, the findings indicate that patulin production is influenced by strain-level variability and matrix-related factors. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the feasibility of producing high-purity patulin suitable for in-house analytical applications. However, the produced material should not be considered a certified reference material, and further validation would be required for broader analytical use.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Regression-Based Controller Design Using LQR Data for a Two-Wheeled Gyroscopic Combat Robot
Oğuz, Yasin; Çetin, Gökhan; Ünker, Faruk
Two-wheeled gyroscopic robots are challenging to balance due to their intrinsic instability and sensitivity to external disturbances. This study proposes a hybrid control approach that combines a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and a regression-based machine learning model to increase stability and adaptability. The regression model is trained with data collected from an LQR-controlled system to predict the optimal control responses under different conditions. The proposed approach utilizes state-space representation and the Jacobian linearization technique to design and simulate the robot’s performance under both controlled and random disturbance profiles. Simulation results indicate that the proposed method ensures steady motion even in dynamic, uncertain environments and increases resistance to external disturbances. Compared to the conventional LQR control method, the regression-enhanced model dynamically adjusts the control parameters, effectively reducing oscillations throughout the robot’s motion and achieving an average energy saving of approximately 80 %. These results demonstrate that robust, adaptive control in autonomous two-wheeled robotic systems can be achieved by fusing data-driven models with classical control techniques.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Think political leader — think he or she? A multi-country test of a gender-fair language intervention to reduce gendered leadership stereotypes
Peters, Kim; Jeftić, Alma; Ballard, Timothy; Zhou, Steven; Steffens, Niklas K.; Inceoglu, Ilke; Ryan, Michelle K.; Bongiorno, Renata; Eagly, Alice; Arriaga, Patrícia
Women are greatly underrepresented in positions of political leadership around the world. In seeking to explain this underrepresentation, some researchers have pointed to people's tendencies to stereotype leaders as more similar to men than women as these tendencies can support the belief that women are unsuited to leadership. This project aimed to test whether a subtle linguistic intervention was able to ameliorate this gender bias in political leadership stereotypes across different languages and national contexts (country/region N = 42, language N = 30, sample N = 22,996). Specifically, this project examined whether gender-fair language (e.g., the use of paired pronouns ‘he or she’) can reduce the tendency for people to stereotype political leaders as more similar to men than women. To increase the rigor with which these stereotypes were measured, this project complemented the dominant ‘cheap talk’ measure of personal stereotype content with an incentivised community measure of this content. As expected, participants stereotyped political leaders as more similar to men than women; this pattern was stronger on the incentivised measure of community stereotypes. Unexpectedly, there was no evidence that paired pronouns reduced this bias (there was weak exploratory evidence that paired nouns increased participants' tendencies to stereotype political leaders as more similar to women). This project suggests that the ability of gender-fair language interventions to ameliorate gender bias in the political leadership domain may be limited.

Kadirov, Fakhraddin; Maden, Nafiz; Safarov, Rafig; Gahramanov, Murad
The South Caspian Basin is characterized by high tectonic activity, which resulted in the presence of significant hydrocarbon resources that are currently being exploited. This has led to a surge in research efforts, as the basin's substantial hydrocarbon reserves, coupled with its complex tectonic history, attract considerable scientific interest. This research study aims to contribute to our understanding of the crustal structure of the South Caspian Basin. To achieve this objective, we employed geophysical techniques, with a primary focus on analyzing Bouguer gravity data, power spectrum analysis, and edge detection methods. This comprehensive approach, integrating diverse methodologies, provided substantial advancements in our understanding of the basin's geological framework, with valuable insights into the tectonic processes operating in the region. In the Absheron-Prebalkhan zone, the Moho depth was constrained to an estimated 42 km. The investigation further reveals a constriction of the area towards the east, reaching a depth of 36 km near Prebalkhan and a final depth of 39 km within Prebalkhan itself. The total horizontal gradient technique and the logistic filter were implemented on the gravity data of the study region to figure out faults, geological boundaries, and structural lineaments within the South Caspian Basin.

Akdeniz, Fatih; Güven, Birol; Zuhal, Mustafa
Amid the growing prominence of sustainability considerations in financial decision-making, the question of how environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance translates into measurable financial outcomes has become particularly salient for industries exposed to intense regulatory pressure and environmental scrutiny, such as the energy sector. Addressing this issue, the paper investigates the relationship between ESG performance and firm-level financial outcomes for a selected sample of 58 S&P 500 companies operating in energy and closely energy-related activities, using historical firm-level data covering 2015–2024. The analysis focuses on two widely used performance indicators, Tobin's Q and ROA, while ESG performance is captured through both a composite score and its environmental, social, and governance sub-dimensions. The empirical models control for firm size, leverage, and sales growth and incorporate firm and year fixed effects with Driscoll–Kraay robust standard errors. The findings indicate that, in the preferred two-way fixed-effects specifications, aggregate ESG performance is negatively associated with both firm value and profitability, although the Tobin's Q association is statistically weak and sensitive to model specification. When the ESG pillars are estimated separately, environmental performance is negatively and significantly associated with both Tobin's Q and ROA, social performance is negatively and significantly associated with ROA but statistically insignificant for Tobin's Q, and governance performance is negatively associated with both outcomes, with weaker statistical evidence for Tobin's Q. In the combined-pillar specifications, the environmental dimension remains negatively and significantly associated with Tobin's Q, while governance is also negatively associated with Tobin's Q and remains weakly negatively associated with ROA. The social dimension is statistically insignificant in both combined-pillar models. Sales growth is positively associated with financial performance, with particularly consistent and statistically significant coefficients across the ROA specifications. Overall, the findings reveal that ESG–financial performance associations are heterogeneous across ESG dimensions and performance measures and suggest that, within the analyzed energy-sector setting, stronger contemporaneous ESG performance does not necessarily translate into higher market valuation or accounting profitability. These results highlight the importance of accounting for firm growth dynamics and sector-specific characteristics when evaluating the financial implications of ESG performance.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A robust calibration-based estimator in presence of non-sensitive and sensitive variables using moments in sample surveys
Yadav, Vinay Kumar; Bulut, Hasan; Zaman, Tolga
In survey sampling, the calibration approach is among the most widely used techniques to improve estimator efficiency. In this study, we introduced robust regression approaches into calibrated exponential ratio-type estimators for finite population mean, which helps to ensure better estimation precision when outliers are present in the data. In particular, using stratified random sampling, we introduce the first three moments of the origin of an auxiliary variable in the calibration approach. Second-and third-order moments are also considered by using exponential mean-type estimators. This technique is further modified for study involving sensitive variables, especially in research on personal relationships and intimate health where the respondent may under-report because of privacy concerns. Biased answers are often obtained when questions such as “Have you ever engaged in unprotected sex?" or “Have you ever been tested for a sexually transmitted infection?" By reducing these biases, our strong calibration estimators improve the accuracy of the study. In a simulation study, the data is randomly generated for each stratum and outliers are introduced at 5%, 10% and 25% by randomly selecting a specified proportion of the generated data and multiplying those values by a factor of 10. The findings of our suggested robust estimators perform better than those already in use, especially when it comes to managing sensitive data and outliers, which makes them more effective for real-world use.

This study quantitatively evaluates the effects of surface roughness, weathering degree, and evaluation procedures on Schmidt rebound values obtained from basalt and lapilli tuff. Field measurements on eight surfaces produced rebound values between 10 and 60, with standard deviations ranging from 2.4 to 11, reflecting substantial variability related to roughness and alteration. Laboratory results showed that cut surfaces yielded the highest hardness values (Mean ≈ 57–58) with very low variability (SD ≈ 1.1–1.6), whereas natural surfaces exhibited markedly lower rebound values (Mean ≈ 19–22) and greater scatter (SD ≈ 4–4.5). A strong correlation (R2 > 0.97) was observed between JRC roughness and rebound values in laboratory-prepared samples. The percentage difference among the USBR, ASTM, and Sumner & Nel methods remained below 5% when the standard deviation of measurements was under 2, indicating that method selection becomes critical only for heterogeneous surfaces. Mineralogical heterogeneity further increased variability in lapilli tuff, whereas basalt provided highly consistent responses. Overall, this study introduces quantitative thresholds linking roughness, weathering, and statistical variability, offering a more rigorous and reproducible framework for interpreting Schmidt hardness measurements.
