Akbay, Yunus Emre; Evmes, Adem; Akyüz, Turgut
The subject of this article is to examine and analyze the understanding of propositions held by Ibn Kamm & umacr;na, who lived in the 13th century, from the perspective of the discipline of logic. Ibn Kamm & umacr;na is a profound thinker who left significant works in the fields of philosophy and logic by thoroughly examining the works of figures such as Ibn Maym & umacr;n, Ibn Sin & amacr;, al-Ghaz & amacr;li, Ab & umacr; al-Barak & amacr;t al-Baghd & amacr;di, Fakhr al-Din al-R & amacr;zi, and al-Suhrawardi. The primary aim of the article is to analyze in detail the manner in which Ibn Kamm & umacr;na approaches propositions, drawing upon the works he authored on matters of logic. The scope of the article is confined to al-Jad & imacr;d f & imacr;'l-hikma, Sharh al-us & umacr;l wa'l-jumal, and Sharh at-talw & imacr;h & amacr;t, which are among Ibn Kamm & umacr;na's works containing data on the subject of propositions, and within the context of these works, the definition of the proposition, categorical propositions, conditional propositions, modal propositions, the contradiction and conversion of propositions are comprehensively addressed. The literature review conducted revealed that the philosopher has been examined to a considerably limited extent in our country from the standpoint of logic, and this study is considered to make a significant contribution to remedying the aforementioned deficiency. A qualitative research methodology was adopted in the article, and techniques of analysis and comparison were employed. It is known that Ibn Kamm & umacr;na, unlike authors such as Aristotle, al-F & amacr;r & amacr;bi, and Ibn Sin & amacr;, did not compose an independent work on propositions. For this reason, approximately sixteen works that have survived to the present day were meticulously examined through an individual scanning method, passages related to the subject of propositions within the context of the three identified works were recorded, and the data obtained were systematically classified and analyzed. As a result, it has been demonstrated that Ibn Kamm & umacr;na's treatment of propositions draws substantially from the Peripatetic tradition through Ibn Sin & amacr;. Ibn Kamm & umacr;na shares a common view with Ibn Sin & amacr; on the matter of indefinite propositions and explicitly states that such propositions ought to be understood as particular. Furthermore, he addresses propositions holistically on the subject of modality without making a distinction between simple and composite; and emphasizes that there is no limitation with respect to the number of modal propositions and

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Semianalytical Solutions of a Caputo-Fabrizio Fractional Epidemic Model via the q-Kushare Homotopy Transform Method
Alkan, Asli; Anaç, Halil
In this study, an enhanced semianalytical framework is developed for solving nonlinear fractional differential equations involving the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional operator. The proposed Caputo-Fabrizio q-Kushare homotopy analysis transform method (CFq-KHATM) combines the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative, Kushare transform, and q-homotopy analysis within a unified operator-consistent framework. Unlike conventional hybrid approaches, the method preserves the nonsingular exponential memory structure of the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative and provides additional convergence-control flexibility through the auxiliary parameter & hbar; and q-deformation parameter n. To demonstrate its applicability, a Caputo-Fabrizio fractional epidemic model with memory-dependent transmission dynamics is investigated. Numerical simulations for different fractional-order values show that memory effects significantly influence epidemic evolution, infection persistence, and environmental viral dynamics. Furthermore, comparisons with existing methods together with absolute and relative error analyses confirm the accuracy, stability, and convergence efficiency of the proposed framework. The obtained results indicate that CFq-KHATM is a flexible and computationally reliable tool for nonlinear fractional epidemic systems and other memory-dependent dynamical models.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Comparison of Radiologic and Clinical Results of Short-Long Level Posterior Fusion in Lenke Type 5C Scoliosis
Tas, Suleyman K.; Aydin, Abdurrahman; Yetkin, Cem; Albayrak, Akif; Kaygusuz, Mehmet A.
Background: Lenke type 5C scoliosis is treated surgically with long-segment (nonselective) or short-segment (selective) level fusion. For Lenke type 5C scoliosis, no standardized criteria exist for selecting proximal and distal fusion levels. Studies report that short-segment level fusion patients with correct patient selection have a direct effect on the result of a well-balanced spine. Purpose: To compare the midterm and long-term radiologic and clinical outcomes of short-segment (selective) vs long-segment (nonselective) fusion in Lenke type 5C scoliosis. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Patient sample: This retrospective study evaluated patients who underwent posterior instrumentation for Lenke type 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) at our institution between 2005 and 2016. Outcome measure: Physiologic measures: radiological evaluations included coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance assessments as well as shoulder balance parameters on X-ray. Functional measures: clinical evaluations were performed using the SF-36 and SRS-22(r) scores. Methods: Patients with Lenke type 5C scoliosis who underwent selective (group 1) or nonselective (group 2) instrumentation were retrospectively analyzed. Group 1 included 47 patients (42 females and five males) with a mean age of 16.1 +/- 2.4 year (range, 12-22), and group 2 included 58 patients (53 females and five males) with a mean age of 16.3 +/- 3.4 yr (range, 12-24; P > .05). Radiological evaluations included coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance assessments, as well as shoulder balance parameters. Clinical evaluations were performed using SF-36 and SRS-22(r) scores; results were compared between the two groups. Results: Both groups exhibited similar results in terms of coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance as well as shoulder balance in many data after surgery (P > .05). Clinical outcomes, assessed via SF-36 mental health and SRS-22(r) scores, did not show statistically significant differences between groups (P > .05), except fort the physical role difficulty domain of the SF-36, where the selective fusion group (77.1 +/- 31.6) showed significantly better scores than nonselective group (58.2 +/- 36.1). However, the mean surgical time and transfusion requirement were significantly lower in the selective fusion group. Conclusion: When appropriately applied, selective fusion achieves comparable radiologic and clinical outcomes to nonselective fusion, with the added advantages of shorter surgical time and lower transfusion requirements.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1An insight of oil protection theory: Survival, structural and metabolic adaptation of Salmonella enterica Enteritidis Phage Type 30 in three triglycerides

Oil protection theory posits that oil enhances microbial survival and heat resistance in low-moisture foods, yet the role of triglyceride composition remains poorly defined. This study investigates how Salmonella enterica Enteritidis PT 30 adapts during desiccation in peanut oil (mixed triglycerides, aw,25 degrees C = 0.30) and two representative components, namely, trilinolein and glyceryl trioleate. The lipid-specific structural and metabolic adaptations were analyzed through confocal microscopy and transcriptomics. S. Enteritidis exhibited the lowest persistence (3.43-log reduction over 180 days) and weakest heat resistance (2.5 h at 80 degrees C to achieve 3.5-log reduction) in peanut oil. The survival of S. Enteritidis in triglycerides could be correlated with its metabolic dormancy via suppression of ribosomal and oxidative phosphorylation pathways. Trilinolein enhanced S. Enteritidis' heat resistance (30 h at 80 degrees C for 3.5-log reduction) and moderate storage mortality (1.64-log reduction at 180 d), driven by stress hyperactivity. Glyceryl trioleate balanced heat tolerance (8 h) with optimal storage survival (1.19-log reduction), mediated by partial metabolic suppression. Peanut oil preserved S. Enteritidis transient motility in water-rich microenvironments, while pure triglycerides formed compact, dehydrated aggregates. Transcriptomics identified divergent strategies. Peanut oil induced dormancy at the expense of stress resilience, whereas homogeneous lipids imposed distinct constraints; that is, trilinolein amplified oxidative stress, and glyceryl trioleate intensified desiccation. These findings refine oil protection theory, demonstrating that lipid heterogeneity-not just low water activity-shapes microbial outcomes. The mixed components of peanut oil buffer stress but limit protective efficacy, while its purified constituents reveal how specific triglycerides modulate survival. This mechanistic understanding advances theoretical models of pathogen persistence in oily matrices and guides targeted strategies to mitigate risks in low-moisture oil-rich food systems.

Tepe, Dilsat; Ulusahin, Mehmet; Kula, Sibel; Yilmaz, Gurdal
Objective: Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a chronic inflammatory breast disease with a heterogeneous clinical presentation and uncertain optimal management. Increasing evidence suggests a role for Corynebacterium species, particularly Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii, in its pathogenesis. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics, treatment strategies, and outcomes of granulomatous mastitis, with particular emphasis on cases associated with Corynebacterium species and the impact of antibiotic therapy. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study included female patients with GM treated at a university hospital between January 2018 and January 2023. Patients were grouped according to Corynebacterium isolation. Clinical characteristics, microbiological findings, and treatment modalities-oral steroids, combined antibiotic-steroid therapy, antibiotics with intralesional steroids, and segmental mastectomy-were evaluated. The impact of lipophilic antibiotics (tetracyclines, linezolid, rifampin) combined with steroids was assessed. Recurrence rates and associated factors, including symptom duration, were analyzed. Results: A total of 165 patients were included in the study, of whom 25 tested positive and 140 negative. Corynebacterium spp. were detected in 15.15% of cases, with C. kroppenstedtii identified in 8.48%. Patients with Corynebacterium-associated GM had more extensive abscess formation and required more interventional procedures. Multimodal treatment strategies combining steroids, antibiotics, and surgery resulted in favorable outcomes. Lipophilic antibiotics combined with steroids showed a positive but statistically non-significant effect. Recurrence occurred in 16.4% of patients and was associated with longer symptom duration. Conclusion: Accurate microbiological identification is essential in GM, particularly in C. kroppenstedtii infections, to guide targeted antibiotic therapy and reduce recurrence. Tailored management strategies, including lipophilic antibiotics, may improve outcomes. Further studies are needed to define optimal treatment duration and the role of surgery in refrac-GM.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026An ergogenic approach to enhancing performance in archery: the acute effects of caffeine
Türker, Ustun; Ates, Zeynep Hazal; Görgülü, Mumine; Kiyici, Fatih; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar
Background and Study Aim Ergogenic aids are widely used to enhance exercise performance and training adaptations. Among these, caffeine is recognized for its stimulatory effects on the central nervous system and neuromuscular function. Despite their widespread use, the relative effectiveness of such aids in improving performance in precision-based target sports such as archery remains a matter of practical interest. This study aimed to examine the effects of acute caffeine supplementation on shooting performance in university-level archers. Material and Methods A total of 12 licensed university archers (mean age: 22.92 +/- 2.11 years) participated in this study. A single-group pretest-posttest experimental design was employed. Participants completed two laboratory sessions separated by 72 hours under standardized conditions. In each session, anthropometric and hearing assessments were conducted. This was followed by the ingestion of 200 mg of caffeine. After a 60-minute absorption period, archers performed shooting tests at 18 meters. The protocol included practice trials and 10 sets of scoring shots. Data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and repeated-measures ANOVA. These methods accounted for within-subject variability across sets. Statistical significance was set at p < .05. Results Posttest scores were consistently higher than pretest scores across most sets. Statistically significant improvements were observed in Sets 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 (p < .05). Sets 1, 5, and 7 showed nonsignificant differences. Overall performance increased significantly from 6.61 +/- 1.20 to 8.33 +/- 0.39 (p < .001), with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.90; eta 2 = .50). Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of condition (p < .001). No significant set or interaction effects were found. This indicates that performance improvements were consistent across shooting sets. Conclusions Acute caffeine supplementation was associated with improved shooting performance in university-level archers. The findings suggest that caffeine may have potential as an ergogenic aid in precision-oriented sports requiring sustained attention and performance consistency. However, the results should be interpreted with caution due to methodological limitations. These include the absence of a control condition and the small sample size. Further randomized placebo-controlled studies are needed to confirm and extend these findings.

Bucurgat, Mahmut; Özdemir, Ahmet Faruk; Altindal, Semsettin
Different thicknesses of Si3N4 insulator layers were grown on an (Au: Ti)/n-GaAs (MS) reference structure to analyze the effect of these layers with/without illumination on the electrical characteristics and compare the results between these structures. With this motivation, current measurements were made as a function of voltage over +/- 3 V, either in the dark or at 20-100 mW cm- 2 illumination with an increment of 20 mW cm- 2. Some important electric and optoelectronic parameters, such as barrier height at zero bias, ideality factor, saturation current at reverse bias, photosensitivity, photoresponsivity, and detectivity, have been determined using currentvoltage data in relation to illumination intensity. To compare the calculation methods used, the basic electrical parameters, the barrier height at zero bias, the ideality factor, and the series resistance were calculated first using the Thermionic Emission Method and then, alternatively, using Cheung functions. Additionally, the dependence of energy of the interface states was investigated using forward bias current voltage data with the ideality factor and barrier height with/without different intensities of illumination, because of their reordering/restructuring in electric field effects and illumination. The voltage-dependent characteristics of resistance of these structures were also determined from Ohm's Law for each illumination intensity.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2How does social capital affect the relationship between perception of diversity management and affective commitment?
Yilmaz Atik, Emine; Özbek, Mehmet Ferhat
PurposeThe aim of this study is to reveal the moderating effect of social capital in the relationship between employees' perceptions of diversity management and their affective commitment.Design/methodology/approachThe research hypotheses developed within the relevant literature framework are tested by using data that was obtained from the academic staff members who work at the Turkish universities.FindingsThe findings indicate that the relationship between perceptions of diversity management and affective commitment, considered in the dimensions of social capital such as participation in the local community, socio-proactivity, family and friendship relationships, tolerance for diversity, work relationships, quality of life and trust, vary according to strong and weak levels, supporting moderating hypotheses at various levels.Research limitations/implicationsOne of the significant limitations of the study is the reluctance of the sampled academicians to participate in a study related to diversity during the data collection process. Some academicians, in addition to express that they do not tolerate the diversity among employees within the organization, also decline to answer questions which are aimed at measuring these expressions.Practical implicationsThe study reveals that the perception of diversity management increases affective commitment. This finding suggests that managers should consider employees' perceptions of these policies rather than focusing solely on diversity management policies (Alshaabani and Rudnak, 2020: 2; Saleem et al., 2021: p. 1). In societies with collectivist cultures like T & uuml;rkiye, managers' practices become more important in strengthening employees' affective commitment (Wasti, 2000; Wasti, 2003). For employees to have positive perceptions of diversity management, managers should respect their identities, use inclusive language and form a positive diversity climate (Deepak and Perwez, 2019: p. 909). Furthermore, the audits evaluating diversity management practices should be conducted frequently (McKay and Avery, 2015: 334). However, the impact of employees' perceptions of diversity management on affective commitment may vary depending on employees' levels of social capital. Therefore, the organizations need to develop policies based on employees' levels of social capital. Orientation and mentoring programs should be implemented to facilitate the integration of employees with weak social relationships into the organization. The employees with strong social relationships should be guided toward social activities and club activities to capitalize on their strengths. The human resources department should develop some personalized programs for these employees.Social implicationsThe literature states that the perceptions and environment regarding diversity management have stronger relationships with attitudinal results rather than behavioral results (Holmes et al., 2020). The research findings support the literature in terms of showing that perception of diversity management have an impact on affective commitment. The collectivist cultural structure of the Turkish society (Sargut, 2001: p. 185) has an impact on the process of acquiring social capital. It is emphasized that the societal structure influences the behaviors exhibited by employees toward the organization. This study shows that the social capital of academics plays a partially moderating role in the relationship between perception of diversity management and affective commitment. When such dimensions of social capital as family and friendship relationships, socio-proactivity, work relations and tolerance for diversity are included in the relationship between the perception of diversity management and affective commitment, the direction and magnitude of the existing relationship change. Based on these results, it can be argued that their social capitals, which are formed based on secondary relationship types like friendship and acquaintance, contribute to the external social capital potential. In this aspect, the study is considered to contribute to the literature that highlights T & uuml;rkiye's high potential for external social capital (Bu & gbreve;ra, 1998; Oba and Semerci & ouml;z, 2004; & Ouml;zen and Aslan, 2006). In addition, it is fixed that socio-proactivity, family and friendship relationships, tolerance for diversity and work relationships, as the dimensions of social capital, have a negative moderating effect on the relationship between the perception of diversity management and affective commitment. These findings have determined the validity of the negative effects of social capital referred to as the dark side of social capital in the literature in the context of T & uuml;rkiye (Gargiolu and Bennasi, 1999; Gordon, 2020: 487; Lo and Fan, 2020: 27; Alcorta et al., 2020: 445).Originality/valueThe original value of this study is that the authors assume that the direction and magnitude of the relationship between the perception of diversity management and affective commitment are to be shaped according to the dimensions of social capital. In addition, it reveals that the affective commitment of employees can be shaped by social capital rather than perception of diversity management.

This research examines the impact of green innovation and digitalization on economic growth in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and T & uuml;rkiye (BRICS+T) during the period 2002-2021. Within this framework, it analyzes the role of geopolitical risks and climate policy uncertainty. The relationships between variables were estimated using Pooled Bewley (CPS-BP), Dynamic Least Squares Mean Group (DOLS-MG), Fully Modified Least Squares (FMOLS), Canonical Cointegrated Regression (CCR), and Dynamic Least Squares (DOLS) estimators. Our results show that green innovation, digitalization, information technologies, infrastructure investments, life expectancy at birth, and US-originated climate policy uncertainties positively impacted economic growth. Increased geopolitical risks hindered growth in BRICS+T countries.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026The Art of Dialectic (Jadal) in Ibn al-Mutahhar al-Hillī
Evmes, Adem; Akbay, Yunus Emre; Akyüz, Turgut
Al-Hilli, known as a Shii theologian and legal theorist, was a versatile scholar of the thirteenth century who authored numerous works on the philosophical sciences. In his writings, al-Hilli carefully examined ontological problems and methodological questions, systematically discussed the problem of knowledge, and devoted considerable attention to the science of logic. This article addresses al-Hilli's views on the art of dialectic (jadal), which he considered necessary for those who have not yet attained the level of demonstration (burhan), which ranks second in importance among the five arts, and on which no dedicated study has hitherto been undertaken. The aim of the article is to determine, on the basis of his logic works composed within the Peripatetic (Mash'sha'i) tradition, the extent to which al-Hilli was influenced by earlier logicians in his understanding of jadal and the respects in which he diverged from them. The scope of the article is confined to three of al-Hilli's works: his commentary on the logic section of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi's Tajrid al-i'tiqad, entitled al-Jawhar al-nadid; his commentary on al-Katibi's logical treatise al-Shamsiyya, entitled al-Qawa'id al-jaliyya; and his independent composition al-Asrar al-khafiyya fi al-'ul & umacr;m al-'aqliyya. These works were examined through a single-subject scanning method, whereby passages containing data pertaining to the components of dialectical theory-including its definition, premises, structure, and application-were identified and analysed. In this context, recourse was made to the works of logicians who had written on jadal prior to al-Hilli, among them Aristotle, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, al-T & umacr;si, and al-Katibi, with particular attention given to a comparative analysis of the explanations offered by Ibn Sina and al-Hilli. It was ultimately established that al-Hilli followed both the Aristotelian and the Peripatetic logical tradition in his theory of jadal, and that he was especially influenced by Ibn Sina.

Köroglu, Ali; Yildiz, Salih
Brand dilution, which refers to new brand's damage to well-known brand's reputation and distinctive character by entering the market, is an understudied topic in marketing. Furthermore, there are very few studies comparing the effects of different levels of blurring and tarnishing. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the indirect impact of brand dilution on purchase intention through brand equity and by comparing the effects of blurring and tarnishing. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 960 university students selected using a convenience sampling method. The conditional process model (Model 8) developed by Hayes (2018) was used in the research. The research results indicate a negative impact of brand dilution on brand equity dimensions and purchase intention. Additionally, brand awareness/association and brand loyalty play a mediating role in the relationship between brand dilution and purchase intention. Familiarity with the product category plays a moderating role in the relationship between brand dilution and brand awareness/association, brand loyalty, and purchase intention. As participants' familiarity with the product category increases, the influence of brand dilution on brand loyalty and purchase intention increases, while its influence on brand awareness/association decreases.

Kaderi, Sina; Ekinci, Can; Köse, Aydan Ayse
Background Today, people increasingly embrace the natural process of aging while seeking to age gracefully and elegantly. As a result, there has been growing interest in facelift and facial rejuvenation techniques. Patients tend to prefer methods that refresh the facial expression, offer natural-looking results, and leave minimal scarring. Objectives The authors describe a new technique and its tips that include short-scar facelift in addition to forehead and midface lift, especially for patients between the ages 35 and 50 with moderate skin sagging and excess. This procedure also includes intervention on the platysma muscle and all major retaining ligaments. Methods Seventy-four patients, all female, who were operated on with the TemFa lift technique described by the author, were evaluated with midface area measurements and Brow Positioning Grading Scale (BPGS), and the preoperative and postoperative results are presented. Results Compared with the preoperative results, the ratio of the upper midface area (P1) to the lower midface area (P2) increased significantly in the postoperative period (p < 0.05), while the BPGS results decreased significantly (p < 0.05), resulting in a younger eyebrow height and position. After the operation, the square face appearance is replaced by a more youthful V-shaped face. Conclusion TemFa lift technique can be considered as a suitable surgical technique for patients between the ages 35 and 50 who have moderate excess skin and sagging but also want some improvement in the neck and jawline area.

Soygenc, Elcin Izmir; Onur, Ozge Sahmelikoglu
Objective: Growing evidence suggests that unipolar mania (UM) may represent a distinct clinical condition rather than a subtype of bipolar disorder (BD). The present study aimed to compare the sociodemographic characteristics, clinical features, and psychosocial functioning of euthymic patients with UM or bipolar I disorder (BD-I) and healthy control subjects. Method: This cross-sectional study included euthymic patients with UM (n=58), BD-I (n=58), and healthy control subjects (n=58). Diagnoses were established according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria, and euthymia was confirmed using the Young Mania Rating Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Psychosocial functioning was assessed using the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) in all groups and the Bipolar Disorder Functioning Scale (BDFS) in the UM and BD-I groups. Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected using a structured form. Group comparisons were conducted using appropriate parametric and nonparametric statistical analyses. Results: Both patient groups demonstrated significantly impaired psychosocial functioning compared with healthy controls across all FAST subdomains (p<0.05). On the BDFS, patients with UM showed better emotional functioning and less social withdrawal than patients with BD-I (p<0.05); however, total functioning scores did not differ significantly between groups (p>0.05). Clinically, UM was characterized by manic-predominant onset, higher rates of mood-congruent psychotic symptoms, longer episode duration, and more frequent hospitalizations. Suicidal behavior and total number of mood episodes were higher among patients with BD-I (p<0.05). In the final logistic regression model, mood-congruent psychotic symptoms during the first episode were independently associated with UM relative to BD-I, whereas a history of suicide attempts was associated with lower odds of UM (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although both groups exhibited functional impairment, patients with UM demonstrated relatively better emotional and social functioning than those with BD-I. These findings suggest that UM may be associated with a distinct functional profile, with potential implications for prognosis and treatment planning. Incorporating functional outcomes into the clinical assessment of UM may help optimize therapeutic strategies and improve long-term psychosocial outcomes.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Assessment of topographically influenced gravity-height gradients and plumb line curvature at Sümela Monastery (Türkiye)
Tütüncü, Mehmet; Yilmaz, Nazan
Accurate estimation of gravity-height gradient and plumb line curvature is fundamental for gravity field modeling, geoid determination, and high-precision geodetic applications, especially in mountainous regions. This study presents an integrated computational framework combining terrestrial gravity observations, precise leveling, GNSS measurements, and Global Geopotential Models (GGMs) to estimate and compare gravity-height gradient and plumb line curvature in the rugged terrain surrounding S & uuml;mela Monastery. Simultaneous gravity and leveling surveys were conducted during two observation periods to compute actual and normal gradient, level surface curvature, and plumb line curvature. Additionally, twelve GGMs obtained from the ICGEM service were used to derive the same parameters through spherical harmonic expansions. A comprehensive statistical evaluation, including minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation, and RMSE, was performed to assess the consistency between terrestrial and model-based results. The results show that normal gradient and level surface curvature from GGMs generally agree well with terrestrial data, whereas larger discrepancies occur in actual gradient and plumb line curvature in areas with steep topographic gradients. CHAMP-based models demonstrate comparatively better consistency in representing plumb line curvature. The proposed framework confirms the reliability of global models at regional scales while emphasizing the importance of terrestrial data in complex topographic environments.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Frustrated Entitlements and Micro-Aggressors in Julian Barnes's Novels, The Sense of an Ending and The Only Story
Günes, Mustafa
This article reads the male first-person narrators of Julian Barnes's The Sense of an Ending and The Only Story as gender microaggressors. Focusing on microaggression developed in social and feminist psychology, and on contemporary feminist philosophy's redescription of misogyny, the article argues that the rueful, self-critical retrospection these novels are usually praised for also serves as a vehicle for the quiet reproduction of patriarchal ideology. At the root of these microaggressions lies what the article terms 'frustrated entitlement', the felt grievance of someone who believes a tribute has gone unpaid. Feminist narratology supplies the analytic tools required to make this argument precise. Close reading distinguishes microaggressions performed by the younger protagonist within the storyworld from those enacted by the older narrator in the telling, and shows that both are absorbed into a rhetorical structure of 'bonding unreliability': the narrators name the gendered patterns of their own thought, and that very naming becomes the licence by which the patterns are kept in place. Set against the louder retrosexism of the postwar British male confessional novel in its more satirical and self-aggrandising mode, Barnes's decorous, retrospectively contrite narrators emerge as the most refined instance of an underexamined formal investment in contemporary British letters: the patient maintenance of patriarchal continuity through the voice of the man who is sorry.

Background/Objectives: Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) is a common but under-recognized condition in critically ill patients and is associated with adverse outcomes, particularly acute kidney injury (AKI) and mortality. However, the prognostic value of intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) remains incompletely defined. This study aimed to evaluate the association between IAP levels and clinical outcomes, and to determine its prognostic significance in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Methods: This prospective cohort study included adult patients admitted to the ICU between 2024 and 2025. Serial IAP measurements were performed using the transvesical method on days 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data, along with severity scores (SOFA and APACHE II), were recorded. Patients were followed for 90 days. Primary outcomes were AKI and 90-day mortality. Statistical analyses included regression models, survival analysis, and ROC curve analysis. Results: The prevalence of IAH was 54%. IAH was significantly associated with advanced age, male sex, higher body mass index, increased comorbidity burden, sepsis, positive fluid balance, and higher disease severity scores. Patients with IAH had a significantly higher frequency of AKI occurrence and increased mortality. IAP levels positively correlated with serum urea and creatinine levels. Serial IAP measurements, particularly on days 5 and 7, showed progressively improved predictive performance for mortality. Survival analysis revealed significantly reduced survival in patients with IAH. Conclusions: IAH is highly prevalent in critically ill patients and is strongly associated with renal dysfunction and mortality. Serial IAP measurements may provide useful prognostic information in critically ill patients; however, these findings require validation in larger studies.

Online gambling is a growing public health concern whose harms extend to the family, yet its familial consequences remain underexplored in contexts where gambling is illegal and extended-family ties are strong. This study examined how men who gamble online perceive gambling to affect their families in Siirt, Türkiye. Using a qualitative exploratory design, in-person semi-structured interviews with nine married or previously married men who currently or formerly gambled online (recruited via purposive and snowball sampling) were analyzed with a hybrid deductive-inductive, codebook thematic analysis (Fereday & Muir-Cochrane, 2006), informed by the six phases of Braun and Clarke (2006). Four themes were identified: entry into online gambling and the experience of addiction; the internal disintegration of the nuclear family; the household’s economic collapse and drift into crime; and the extended family, stigmatization, and the cultural framing of harm. Participants perceived gambling to erode communication and trust, dispossess the household, and displace men from the provider role, while family responses followed conventional gendered lines-disrupting the material division of roles while reactivating a traditional gender order. Distinctive contextual mechanisms emerged, including the extended family’s collective debt-clearing in exchange for religious oaths and the operation of stigma through kinship networks that threatened collective family honor. Because all participants were gamblers, the findings reflect their perceptions of family impact rather than the direct experiences of affected others. The results extend a predominantly Western evidence base and underscore the need for culturally sensitive, family-inclusive support that works with existing kinship structures while protecting those most burdened.

Purpose: There has been an increasing demand for food and beverage products enriched with bee products due to their valuable nutrients and bioactive compounds. This study was designed to assess the feasibility of enriching herbal tea infusions with bee products (honey and bee pollen), and to optimize formulation parameters using response surface methodology (RSM). Methods: The effects of the honey level of bee products (HLBP; 10–90 g/100 g) and the level of non-tea substances (LNTS; 1–5 g/100 mL) on the general acceptability, total glucose and fructose (TGF), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity of the herbal tea infusions were investigated using RSM. Results: HLBP showed a positive impact on the general acceptability and TGF, but a negative impact on the TPC, while the LNTS had a positive impact on the TGF and TPC. At the optimized enrichment conditions, the response to honey–bee pollen differed markedly between the two matrices: linden tea demonstrated significantly higher functional enhancement (TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity) compared to the control, whereas sage tea exhibited relatively stable functional values. Sensory responses also differed, with linden formulations showing a significant decrease in general acceptability at lower HLBP levels, while sage formulations maintained relatively stable sensory scores. Conclusion: Overall, the findings indicate that the effects of honey–bee pollen enrichment on herbal tea beverages depend on the tea matrix and require optimization, as increasing functional properties may compromise sensory acceptability, particularly in linden tea, whereas sage tea showed comparatively similar responses to the control.
