Sahin, Oktay; Yilmaz, Coskun; Sezer, Sureyya Yonca; Sahin, Fatma Nese; Ceylan, Levent; Çelikel, Baha Engin; Tan, Cetin; Uçar, Mine Akkus; Kirikoglu, Nagihan

Background The existing research on Muay Thai sports has focused predominantly on the physiological effects of training, with limited attention devoted to the study of quality of life, love of life and self-control. The present study examined the effects of Muay Thai exercises on quality of life, love of life and self-control scores in healthy male subjects. Methods The present study comprised 50 healthy sedentary male subjects. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: one group engaged in Muay Thai training (MTT), while the other group served as a control group (CON). The sample sizes for the MTT and CON groups were both 25. The MTT group participated in basic Muay Thai training, while the CON group continued their normal life regime. The SF-12 quality of life scale, love of life scale and multidimensional self-control scale were administered before and after the six-week training period. Results The study concluded that the six-week Muay Thai training program had a significant effect on quality of life levels, with 13.23% (p = 0.003) and 21.93% (p < 0.001) of participants demonstrating improvements in physical and mental scores, respectively. In terms of self-control levels, the program was found to have a significant effect on initiation and inhibition scores, with increases of 23.78% (p = 0.001) and 24.69% (p < 0.001), respectively. It was concluded that had a significant effect on the sub-dimensions of the Love of Life scale with increases of Positive Attitude Toward Life (PAWL) 18.63% (p < 0.001), Happy Results of the Love of Life (HRLL) 20.11% (p < 0.001) and Meaningfulness of Life (ML) 15.62% (p < 0.001), respectively. However, no significant differences were detected in any of the scales within the control group. Conclusion Muay Thai exercises had a positive effect on quality of life, love of life and self-control levels in healthy male subjects. By providing valuable insights into how Muay Thai exercise affects quality of life, love of life, and self-control, this research can guide future intervention and program design in the context of sport psychology.

Log-transformed approaches to variance estimation using auxiliary data

Singh, Poonam; Sharma, Prayas; Singh, Anjali; Zaman, Tolga; Emam, Walid

Reliable statistical inference requires accurate population variance estimate, especially in domains where measurement limitations and intrinsic variability impact data. Applying traditional estimators to skewed or heavy-tailed populations frequently results in inefficient results. We provide a novel class of generalized logarithmic variance estimators that use logarithmic transformations and auxiliary data to stabilize variance and improve estimator performance in order to overcome this constraint. We calculate the suggested estimators' bias and Mean Squared Error (MSE) expressions and assess their effectiveness using comprehensive Monte Carlo simulations with different sample sizes. The suggested estimator, Tr1-, produces a significant reduction in MSE up to 57% increase in efficiency (PRE) at n=600 when compared to the usual estimator. The suggested methodologies resilience and suitability for high-variability situations are further confirmed using real-world datasets. In every context, the findings show that the suggested estimators perform better than the current ones in terms of lower MSE and greater PRE. This research demonstrates how logarithmic transformations may be used to create variance estimators that are more accurate and effective, especially when auxiliary variables are provided.

Synergistic Effects of Exercise and Nano-Curcumin Supplementation in Women with Lifestyle-Related Diseases: A Scoping Review

Cherappurath, Nafih; Navaf, Muhammed; Ceylan, Halil Ibrahim; Elayaraja, Masilamani; Sunooj, Kappat Valiyapeediyekkal; Satheesan, Saranya T.; Thoompenthodi, Muhammed Ali; Perumbalath, Shamshadali; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Muntean, Raul Ioan

Background/Objectives: Lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and osteoarthritis disproportionately affect women due to hormonal, metabolic, and socio-cultural factors. Emerging evidence suggests that combining structured exercise with nano-curcumin, a bioavailable phytochemical formulation with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, may provide synergistic benefits. This scoping review systematically synthesizes available evidence on the combined effects of nano-curcumin supplementation and exercise interventions on health outcomes in women with lifestyle-related diseases. Methods: Following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the PRISMA-ScR framework, a comprehensive database search was conducted in March 2025 and updated in June 2025. Records were retrieved from Scopus (n = 30), Web of Science (n = 22), PubMed (n = 18), and other sources (n = 71), yielding a total of 141 studies. After screening and deduplication, eight studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. All the studies were conducted in Iran with small sample sizes (12-53 participants) and short intervention durations (6-16 weeks). Therefore, the current evidence is geographically and demographically limited. Results: Across the included trials, the combined interventions produced additive or synergistic improvements in oxidative stress markers, inflammatory cytokines, lipid and glucose metabolism, cardiovascular function, pulmonary capacity, muscle fitness, and psychological outcomes (e.g., depression). When paired with nano-curcumin supplementation at different concentrations, high-intensity interval training, aerobic exercise, Pilates, and resistance training consistently outperformed exercise or supplementation alone in modulating antioxidant defenses, reducing systemic inflammation, and improving metabolic risk factors. Conclusions: The integration of exercise and nano-curcumin supplementation appears to confer superior benefits for women with lifestyle-related diseases compared with either approach alone. These findings highlight the potential of combining phytochemicals with lifestyle interventions to optimize women's health outcomes. However, most available evidence originates from small, short-term studies in single geographic regions. Large-scale, multicenter, randomized controlled trials with diverse populations are warranted to establish standardized protocols and optimal dosing strategies, and to assess long-term safety and efficacy.

Subduction initiation of the Neotethyan Ocean recorded in chromite deposits: A case study of the Kızıldag ophiolite, southern Turkiye

Uysal, Ibrahim; Akmaz, Recep Melih; Su, Ben-Xun; Demir, Yilmaz; Sen, Ahmet Dundar

The chromitites of the K & imath;z & imath;lda & gbreve; ophiolite (KO) are primarily characterized by massive and disseminated textures within refractory mantle peridotites, predominantly harzburgite and dunite, with occasional occurrences of banded and nodular chromitites. Based on chromite composition, these chromitites can be classified into two groups exhibiting a broad compositional range: intermediate (0.55 <= Cr# < 0.70, TiO2 = 0.08-0.51 wt%) and high-Cr (0.70 <= Cr# <= 0.77, TiO2 = 0.05-0.28 wt%). The compositions of minor and trace elements align consistently with variations in Cr#. Total PGE (Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pt, Pd) contents in these chromitites are generally less than 500 ppb, with many samples showing enrichment of IPGE (Os, Ir, Ru) relative to PPGE (Rh, Pt, Pd). However, certain samples from both groups display elevated PGE concentrations (Sigma PGE(intermediate) = 718 ppb, Sigma PGE(High-Cr) = 866 ppb) compared to other samples. The dominant platinum group mineral inclusions in chromite are Ru-rich laurite [(Ru, Os)S-2], with a single osmiridium (Os-Ir alloy) grain also observed suggesting formation under high-temperature and low & fnof;S-2 conditions. Primary base metal mineral inclusions include millerite and pentlandite. Additionally, some chromite crystals contain single or multi-phase silicate inclusions, such as clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, olivine, and amphibole. Parental melt compositions, calculated from Al2O3 and TiO2 contents of chromites, indicate that most high-Cr chromitites originated from boninitic melts, whereas intermediate chromitites and some high-Cr samples derived from melts with intermediate compositions. Trace element compositions of amphibole and clinopyroxene inclusions in the chromite crystals from the intermediate group further support crystallization from hydrous intermediate melts. It is proposed that the intermediate chromitite group formed from partial melts influenced by fluids from the subducted oceanic crust during the early stages of subduction initiation, while high-Cr chromitites originated from hydrous melts derived from a more depleted mantle wedge in later stages.

Could GSTP1, PTEN and NKX3.1 gene expression be novel markers in the relationship between prostate cancer and epigenetics?

Koçak, Tevfik; Acar-Tek, Nilufer; Yesil, Suleyman; Ergün, Mehmet Ali; Icer, Yusuf

Background: Although numerous treatment modalities exist for Prostate Cancer (PCa) with a complex pathophysiology, a significant worldwide health concern for males, early identification remains the paramount factor influencing disease prognosis. Proposed new biomarkers, including GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, may provide predictive and prognostic functions, hence enhancing the efficacy of PSA in diagnosing prostate cancer. Epigenetic variables associated with nutrition influence the blood gene expression levels of the new biomarkers GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1. This study aimed to elucidate the correlation between nutrition-related epigenetic variables and the expression of the tumor suppressor genes GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 in benign prostate and prostate cancer patients. Methods: This study was conducted with 41 newly diagnosed prostate cancer and 42 benign prostate patients, all aged 40 years and older. Participants had specific anthropometric measurements taken, and seven-day food records were kept. Serum levels of novel biochemical markers GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 were measured using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Expression analyses of tumor-protective GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 genes were performed on prostate tissues obtained from fresh prostate biopsies taken from the groups and were associated with nutritional status. Results: A significant relationship was found between the serum levels of GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, which are important in the formation and treatment of prostate cancer, and Gleason grade, tumor stage, and surgical margin status (p < 0.05). However, significant relationships were found between many macro and micronutrients obtained from the dietary pattern and effective in epigenetic pathways and GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 gene expressions (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this investigation corroborated the notion that prospective novel markers, including GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, may serve predictive and prognostic functions in prostate cancer, hence enhancing the efficacy of PSA in its diagnosis. Dietary trends may influence the optimization of many epigenetic processes. Targeted therapeutic nutritional interventions designed to enhance gene expression will facilitate the formulation of prostate cancer prevention methods.

Chromitites of Teskuduk and Nurata Ophiolites (Southern Tien Shan Belt, Uzbekistan): Geochemical characteristics and implications of chromitite genesis

Dönmez, Cahit; Aral, Zehra Deveci; Saka, Samet; Günay, Kurtulus; Yildirim, Nail; Yildirim, Esra; Yagcioglu, Kiymet Deniz; Maqsud, Isoqov; Movlanov, Jakhongir; Dovronovich, Mamarozikov Usmonjon

The Central Asian Orogenic Belt's ophiolites lack a full ophiolitic succession and instead occur as irregular fragments and slices in tectonic melanges and accretionary complexes. The Teskuduk and Northern Nurata ophiolites in Uzbekistan comprise extensively serpentinized mantle rocks that contain minor podiform chromitites, situated in the western area of the southern Tien Shan belt. Chromites in this region are found in a very limited area, and this study aims to determine the geochemical properties and formation environments of chromites by conducting geochemical studies on a limited number of recently discovered chromitites. In this context, mineral chemistry and platinum group element (PGE) geochemistry analyses were carried out on chromites. For Teskuduk chromitites, the Cr2O3, Al2O3, and TiO2 contents range from 53.2 to 55.7wt%, 11.1 to 12.7wt%, and 0.14 to 0.20 wt%, respectively, whereas for Nurata chromitites, the corresponding values range from 36.2 to 37.2 wt%, 23.1 to 30.2 wt%, and 0.10 to 0.30 wt%. The Teskuduk and Nurata chromitites contain a total average of 370 ppb and 117 ppb PGEs, respectively. They are classified as unfractionated chromitites, with low Pd/Ir ratios (0.03-0.20). These chromitite samples have chondrite-normalized PGE patterns that are identical to Cr-rich mantle-derived chromitites found in subduction-related ophiolites. Collectively, these data suggest that the Teskuduk ophiolites formed in a forearc setting, whereas the Nurata ophiolites evolved in a back-arc setting within the same oceanic branch.

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is an inflammatory disease characterized by painful ulcers on the oral mucosa. Oxidative stress is held responsible for the pathogenesis of this disease of unknown etiology. In oxidative stress, the balance between oxidant-antioxidant substances changes in favor of the oxidative side. Ischaemia modified albumin (IMA) is a new type of albumin. It occurs as a result of factors such as ischemic attacks and oxidative stress. The aim of the study was to compare IMA levels in patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis with healthy volunteers and to investigate whether IMA has a diagnostic value in the disease. This cross-sectional study included 32 patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis and 34 healthy volunteers of similar age and sex. Albumin and IMA levels were determined by spectrophotometric albumin cobalt binding assay in venous blood samples on the same day. IMA was expressed as absorbance unit. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to determine whether IMA values could be a diagnostic marker for prediction of disease. IMA values of the patient group were significantly higher than IMA values of the control group (P < .001). IMA was statistically significant in the prediction of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (P < .001). The discrimination power for IMA was very good (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve 95% CI = 0.952 [0.897-1.000]). Recurrent aphthous stomatitis, in which oxidative stress plays a role in the etiopathogenesis, is closely associated with high IMA levels. IMA levels may have diagnostic value as an indicator of oxidative stress in the disease.

A Dose-Dependent Study Examining Dexmedetomidine's Possible Effects Against Oxidative, Fibrotic, and Apoptotic Damage Induced by Radiation Exposure in Spleen Tissue

Beyazal Polat, Hatice; Yilmaz, Hamit; Kilinc, Kagan; Gülhan, Belemir; Yilmaz Rakici, Sema; Tümkaya, Levent

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the potential splenic tissue damage induced by radiotherapy (RT) and the potential protective effect of different doses of dexmedetomidine on this damage at the histopathological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical levels. Materials and Methods: In our study, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: Control, Radiotherapy (RT; 8 Gy), RT + Dexmedetomidine 100 mu g/kg (RT-D100), and RT + Dexmedetomidine 200 mu g/kg (RT-D200). A single dose of 8 Gy radiotherapy was administered to each RT group. Spleen tissues were examined histologically with hematoxylin-eosin and immunohistochemically with anti-Caspase-3, anti-TGF-beta 1, and anti-TGF-beta 3 using light microscopy. TBARS and total thiol levels were also analyzed to assess oxidative stress and antioxidant capacity. Results: Histopathological results showed a significant decrease in white pulp diameter, decreased cellular density, and increased congestion in the red pulp in the RT group. Significant fibrosis, sinusoidal dilatation, vacuolization, and amyloid deposition were detected in the white pulp in the RT group. Regarding anti-caspase-3 immunoreactivity, strong positivity increased in the red pulp in the RT group, while a significant increase was observed in the white pulp in both the RT-D100 and RT groups. While the proportion of TGF-beta 1 immunopositive cells did not change significantly in the RT group, they increased significantly in both dexmedetomidine groups (especially RT-D200). TGF-beta 3 expression increased significantly only in the RT-D100 group. In biochemical analyses, TBARS levels increased significantly in the RT-D100 group. Total thiol levels decreased in the RT group and increased in the dexmedetomidine-treated groups. Conclusions: While RT caused histopathological damage and increased oxidative stress in spleen tissue, dexmedetomidine reduced this damage in a dose-dependent manner. The different immunohistochemical profiles of TGF-beta 1 and TGF-beta 3 suggest that these cytokines may have different functions in the spleen. 100 mu g/kg dexmedetomidine stimulates a regenerative response through TGF-beta 3, while 200 mu g/kg dexmedetomidine may provide immune regulation and antioxidative defense through TGF-beta 1.

Athlete's Heart in Women's Contact Sports: Echocardiographic and Strain-Based Insights From Elite Rugby Players

Tunca, Cagatay; Gök, Saner Bahadir; Günes, Ozan; Özkan, Mehmet Taha; Tas, Alperen; Ibis, Ayse Nur Ozkaya; Sahin, Yusuf Bozkurt; Akdogan, Murat; Kivrak, Ahmet; Akbuga, Kursat

Background: Athlete's heart encompasses cardiac adaptations to long-term intensive training. Although male-dominated sports have been widely studied, limited data exist on structural and functional cardiac remodeling in female contact-sport athletes. This study aimed to evaluate cardiac changes in elite female rugby players using conventional and strain echocardiography. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 66 elite female rugby players and 50 sedentary controls. Anthropometric measurements and transthoracic echocardiographic assessments, including speckle tracking-derived global longitudinal strain (GLS), were performed. Linear, multivariable, and partial correlation analyses evaluated associations between GLS, active playing years (APY), and body mass index (BMI). Results: Compared to controls, athletes exhibited increased ventricular diameters, wall thicknesses, and left atrial size, with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). GLS values were significantly lower in rugby players (p < 0.001), though within normal limits. APY and BMI both showed significant inverse correlations with GLS (r = -0.456 and -0.370, respectively). In multivariable analysis, APY (beta = -0.392, p = 0.001) and BMI (beta = -0.225, p = 0.013) independently predicted GLS. Partial correlation confirmed the independent association of APY with GLS (r = -0.412, p = 0.001). GLS showed strong discriminative performance for >= 5 years of play (AUC = 0.816) and moderate performance for BMI >= 24.13 (AUC = 0.666). Conclusion: Elite female rugby athletes demonstrate physiological cardiac remodeling, including reduced GLS associated with training duration and BMI. These findings highlight the need for sex- and sport-specific echocardiographic reference values and further longitudinal research to clarify long-term clinical implications.

Geochronological and isotopic data from the adakitic Dodurga Pluton (Central Pontides, N Turkiye): new insights for the geodynamic evolution of the northern Neotethys

Çimen, Okay; Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Simonetti, Antonio; Karaoglan, Fatih

The Dodurga Pluton is located within the Central Pontides (northern Turkiye), has a SW-NE elongation, and consists of granodiorite and dacite porphyry. Previous studies have suggested that this pluton is Triassic in age, and its whole-rock geochemical systematics is consistent with that from adakitic magmatic occurrences rather than the classic arc granitoid suite. This study reports for the first time in situ/whole-rock radiogenic isotopic (Sr, Nd, and Pb) and mica/amphibole Ar-Ar age data to evaluate better its petrogenetic/geodynamic evolution and the chemical nature of mantle source(s). Unlike previous data, combined new in situ zircon U-Pb yield Late Cretaceous crystallization ages of 84.2 +/- 0.9 Ma and 86.9 +/- 0.9 Ma, and the Ar-Ar age data along with apatite fission track measurements suggest magma cooling extending to 82.3 +/- 0.4 Ma and 85.4 +/- 0.4 Ma, respectively. The apatite fission track (AFT) dating results also reveal that this pluton was buried at a depth of 2.5-3 km following a fast-cooling period during the Late Cretaceous and cooled/exhumed over similar to 2 km during the Middle-Late Miocene (15-10 Ma) in a slow cooling phase. The overall data reported here suggest that the Dodurga Pluton represents melts derived from an enriched/metasomatized mantle source that interacted with lower crustal mafic rocks in an active continental margin as a result of northward subduction of the northern branch of the Neotethys Ocean.

FinTech driven green energy transition foreign direct investment and ecological footprint in BRICST countries

Ayaydin, Hasan; Ergün, Tolga; Barut, Abdulkadir; Erdem, Azad; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip

The increasing emphasis on climate change and environmental sustainability worldwide has brought about the convergence and increased focus on financial technologies (FinTech) and green energy initiatives. In light of this, the study's objective is to investigate how FinTech moderates the relationship between the ecological footprint (EF) and green energy transition (GTE) in the BRICS-T nations between 1990 and 2021. This study examines how fintech moderated the GTE and EF in the BRICS-T from 1990 to 2021. We applied the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) and used Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) as the main estimators for longitudinal analysis. In contrast, Driscoll-Kraay was used to verify the robustness of the results under cross-sectional dependence and heteroskedasticity. The results reveal that FinTech indirectly hinders EF by facilitating GTE. The outcomes also show that FinTech significantly constrains EF, while GDP and industrialization worsen EF. The results also confirm the important role of GTE and foreign direct investment (FDI) in reducing CO2 emissions in BRICS-T countries. Lastly, the paper offers policymakers useful recommendations for lowering EF in light of these outcomes. The study suggests establishing appropriate policies and strategies that encourage FinTech platforms to invest in green energy projects, including financial technology, promoting energy-efficient and low-carbon foreign direct investment, and encouraging GTE.

Can, Ibrahim; Yerlikaya, Gokhan; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Ceylan, Halil Ibrahim; Subak, Guelhan Erdem; Bayrakdaroglu, Yesim; Uluç, Sinem; Nikolaidis, Pantelis T.

Background: This study examines the acute effects of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) application on peak power (PP) and mean propulsive power (MPP) during a weighted squat jump (SJ(Loaded)). Methods: Fourteen male students (age: 23.71 +/- 2.30 years; height: 173.71 +/- 6.89 cm; weight: 69.59 +/- 9.08 kg; body mass index (BMI): 26.87 +/- 3.49) from the Faculty of Sport Sciences participated voluntarily. PP and MPP values were measured during the SJ(Loaded) movement, performed with an external load of 40% body weight, using a computer-integrated linear velocity transducer system (T-Force Dynamic Measurement System Ergotech Consulting SL, Murcia, Spain). NMES was bilaterally applied to the musculus hamstring and musculus quadriceps femoris for 20 minutes. The Shapiro-Wilk test, skewness and kurtosis values assessed data normality. Results: Differences between pre- and post-test PP and MPP power performances were analyzed using Paired Samples t-tests. Cohen's d (ES: effect size) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were also calculated to assess the pairwise comparisons' magnitude. According to the analysis results, statistically significant improvements were observed in both PP (t (13) = -2.612, p = 0.021, d: -0.69 (-1.27; -0.10, 95% CI)) and MPP (t (13) = -2.756, p = 0.016, d: -0.73 (-1.32; -0.13, 95% CI), moderate effect) values after the NMES application. Conclusions: NMES significantly enhances PP and MPP during loaded squat jumps, highlighting its potential as a supplementary training tool for improving explosive power. Future studies should explore its long-term effects across different sports and populations, such as female athletes or older adults, to optimize training protocols. Research on NMES intensities and frequencies may provide insights into optimal parameters for power development and neuromuscular adaptation.

Therapeutic Bioactivity Exerted by the Apis mellifera Bee Venom and Its Major Protein Melittin: A Scoping Review

Erdogan, Perihan Mutlu; Bilgili-Tetikoglu, Funda; Çelik-Uzuner, Selcen; Yildiz, Oktay; Kolayli, Sevgi; Mossialos, Dimitris

Honey bee (Apis mellifera) products have been extensively utilized in traditional medicine. Bee venom (BV) is one of the major bee products with a high concentration of the small peptide melittin (MEL) and exerts bioactivity ranging from anti-microbial to anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer. This scoping review aims to sum up research articles on the bioactivity exerted by BV and MEL published in PubMed and Scopus from 2010 onwards. PRISMA guidelines were implemented to analyze the relevant literature; we ended up with 425 research articles. Bioactivity of BV and MEL was grouped as (i) anti-inflammatory (85), (ii) immunomodulatory (37), (iii) anti-microbial (179), (iv) anti-cancer (170), and (v) anti-oxidant (32). Although there is a significant body of research on the anti-cancer and anti-microbial activity of BV and MEL, their anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties have received comparatively less attention. Many studies on the immunomodulatory effects of BV or MEL have focused on cancer. However, the effects on Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease have not been extensively studied regarding the anti-inflammatory effects. Given the critical role of the immune system and inflammatory response in cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, senescence and against infections, it is paramount to further explore the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory potential of BV and MEL.

Exploring the acute recovery effects of dry cupping therapy and electrical stimulation on anaerobic performance metrics in active individuals: A quasi-experimental crossover study

Can, Ibrahim; Yerlikaya, Gokhan; Yalçin, Seda; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Kayhan, Recep Fatih; Uluç, Ender Ali; Stefanica, Valentina; Ceylan, Halil Ibrahim

Background:This quasi-experimental crossover study aimed to examine the acute effects of dry cupping therapy (DCT) and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on fatigue and perceived exertion in anaerobic performance among physically active individuals. Methods:Twelve male participants (mean age: 24.1 +/- 2.37 years), all students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences, were recruited to participate voluntarily. Anaerobic performance parameters, including peak power, mean power (MP), and fatigue index (FI), were assessed using a Monark 839E cycling ergometer under 3 distinct conditions: NMES, DCT, and a control condition (no intervention), with each session separated by a 48-hour rest period. Perceived exertion was evaluated immediately following each test session using Borg's rate of perceived exertion (RPE) scale. Both NMES and DCT were administered bilaterally to the hamstring (m. hamstring) and quadriceps femoris (m. quadriceps femoris) muscles for 20 minutes before testing. Results:The results revealed no statistically significant differences in peak power and MP across the conditions. However, significant effects were identified for FI (F(2, 22) = 4.08, P = .031, eta p(2) = 0.27) and RPE (F(2, 22] = 8.88, P = .0015, eta p(2) = 0.45). Post hoc pairwise comparisons indicated that NMES significantly reduced FI compared to the control condition (P = .0311), with a small to medium effect size (Cohen's d = 0.44). In terms of RPE, DCT significantly lowered values compared to both the control (P = .0018) and NMES conditions (P = .0005), demonstrating medium (Cohen's d = 0.74) and small to medium (Cohen's d = 0.37) effect sizes, respectively. Conclusions:While NMES and DCT did not elicit acute improvements in peak or mean anaerobic power, both interventions effectively mitigated fatigue and reduced perceived exertion during maximal anaerobic exercise. These findings suggest that NMES and DCT may serve as valuable recovery modalities for mitigating fatigue in sports characterized by high anaerobic demands. Future research should investigate the chronic effects of these interventions and explore their utility among trained athletes to determine their broader applicability in enhancing athletic performance.
