Measuring Dysfunctional Grief due to a COVID-19 Loss: A Kurdish Validation Study of the Pandemic Grief Scale

Karimi, Kambiz; Yaghoobi, Abolghasem; Gungor, Sunay; Karimi, Afagh; Sohrabi, Saeed

Millions of people are grieving the loss of someone who died of COVID-19. The current study aims to validate a Kurdish version of the Pandemic Grief Scale which is a brief English-language mental health screener to identify cases of dysfunctional grief associated with a COVID-19 death. We recruited 501 participants. Participants completed the PGS, WSAS, PHQ-9, and Optimism scales. The factor structure, reliability, and validity of the PGS were analyzed. Using exploratory factor analysis (N1 = 300), we derived an one-factor structure. In confirmatory factor analysis (N2 = 201), the one-factor model showed good to excellent fitness. The PGS was positively correlated with PHQ-4, and WSAS and negatively correlated with optimism. The scale was internally consistent with a Cronbach's alpha of .79. These results support that the Kurdish version of the PGS is a valid and reliable assessment to assess the severity of dysfunctional grief associated with a COVID-19 death.

Quantum interferometric protocol using spin-dependent displacements

Çelik, Necati; Özen, Songul Akbulut; Engin, Burhan

We propose a quantum interferometric protocol that leverages spin-dependent spatial displacements to enable high-precision parameter estimation beyond classical limits. By inducing a unitary coupling between a particle's spin degree of freedom and its momentum, the protocol generates entanglement between spin states and spatial positions, resulting in coherent spatial superpositions. Interferometric reconstruction of the resulting phase differences enables Heisenberg-limited sensitivity for parameters encoded in the spin Hamiltonian. As a concrete application, we demonstrate the protocol's effectiveness in magnetic field sensing, where the field is transduced into spatial interference fringes. Quantum Fisher information analysis confirms sub-shot-noise scaling, and the protocol's feasibility is discussed for physical platforms including ultracold atoms and nitrogen-vacancy centers. Our framework provides a versatile approach to quantum metrology with potential extensions to multiparameter sensing and gravitational wave detection.

Urban memory, defined as the accumulation of human experiences within human settlements, is largely shaped around examples of spatial and architectural art. As different cultural environments participate in the formation of urban memory, the accumulation of the settlement also becomes richer. This richness, which carries the traces of civilisations through the ages to the present day, can also be observed in the & Ccedil;& ouml;mlek & ccedil;i Neighbourhood, which forms one of the eastern suburbs of Trabzon and takes its name from the pottery production industry. The neighbourhood is home to cultural layers from the Hellenistic Period Mithra Cult, the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the Komnenos Kingdom, the Ottoman and Republican periods, as well as Catholic Italians, Orthodox Greeks, Mitharist Armenians and Muslim Turks. The neighbourhood's significance extends beyond its multiple cultural layers; as an area of artistic and artisanal production, it makes a significant contribution to the city's budget and vitality. Raising awareness of the neighbourhood is crucial for the integration of fragments of the city's memory. This study compiles new findings added to the existing knowledge about & Ccedil;& ouml;mlek & ccedil;i Mahallesi. The neighbourhood, which bears witness to rich experiences alongside its architectural structure, has been examined in terms of urban memory, centred on the discipline of art history alongside its multiple cultural layers, and studied within a hermeneutic framework that incorporates meaning and interpretation through the criteria of definition, witnessing, surface research, and evaluation.

Phytochemical Profile, Antioxidant Capacity, Acetylcholinesterase, and Butyrylcholinesterase Enzyme Inhibition Properties of Myosotis amoena Boiss

Yapici, Ismail; Kayaoglu, Esma; Izol, Ebubekir; Yilmaz, Mustafa Abdullah; Behçet, Lutfi; Cakir, Oguz; Gülçin, Ilhami

Myosotis amoena Boiss. (Turkish name: Ho & scedil; boncukotu) is a perennial herbaceous plant that produces blue flowers during the spring. Phytochemicals, which are secondary metabolites distributed across plants, fungi, microorganisms, and even animal tissues, play crucial roles in health through their antioxidant and bioactive properties. Their antioxidant capacity largely arises from hydroxyl groups and aromatic ring structures that stabilize free radicals via electron delocalization. Enzyme inhibition is a therapeutic strategy in several diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), where acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors are employed to manage symptoms. This study investigated the phytochemical composition (via LC-MS/MS), total phenolic content, antioxidant capacity, and AChE/BChE inhibitory effects of the ethanol extract of M. amoena using four in vitro methods. The CUPRAC assay demonstrated that M. amoena (1.070) exhibited higher antioxidant activity than Trolox (0.894), although its activity in FRAP, ABTS, and Fe3+ reduction assays was lower compared to standard antioxidants. The extract contained 53.03 mg GAE/g extract of total phenolics, with rosmarinic acid being the predominant compound (15.27 mg/g). Furthermore, the extract strongly inhibited AChE and BChE, with IC50 values of 3.9 and 19.8 mu g/mL, respectively. These findings highlight, for the first time, the significant bioactive potential of M. amoena as a natural source of antioxidants and cholinesterase inhibitors, supporting its prospective use in the prevention or management of neurodegenerative conditions.

Until 2016, two subspecies of Neurergus strauchii were identified; at this time, one more subspecies was described from Tunceli as N. s. munzurensis. However, this study mainly focused on morphological characters. We aim to test of Neurergus species, including N. s. munzurensis taxa by phylogenetic analysis, using partial base sequences of 12S rRNA and D-loop genes. For this purpose, we reconstructed Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood trees with other Neurergus samples. According to the results, phylogenetic tree topologies demonstrate that N. crocatus was separated from the N. strauchii-N. barani lineage and the N. strauchii group have shown monophyly. Also, N. s. munzurensis showed higher genetic distances with N. barani (1.1%) and N. s. strauchii (0.8%) while genetic distances were only determined as 0.5% within N. barani and N. s. strauchii. N. s. munzurensis was found to be a genetically distinct taxon, following its previous morphological description. This study obtained the first evidence on better explaining the taxonomic status of N. s. munzurensis.

DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGE OF PRIMARY COLONIC POORLY COHESIVE ADENOCARCINOMA EXHIBITING GASTRIC-TYPE IMMUNOHISTOCHEMISTRY PROFILE AND FOCAL SIGNET-RING DIFFERENTIATION

ISSiN, Gizem; Tok, Merve; ÇAgATAY, Diren Vuslat; Gökçe, Oruc Numan; Aytekin, Faruk Onder

Colorectal adenocarcinoma infrequently exhibits a diffuse, poorly cohesive architecture and a gastric-type immunophenotype, closely resembling diffuse-type gastric carcinoma and posing a formidable diagnostic challenge. This report describes a 65-year-old woman who presented with non-specific abdominal discomfort and was found by colonoscopy to have a 6.5 cm ulceroinfiltrative lesion in the hepatic flexure. Histologically, the tumor comprised discohesive cells with focal signet-ring morphology, accompanied by extensive lymphovascular and perineural invasion, necrosis, and a marked peritumoral lymphoid response. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated a gastric-type profile (CK7+, CK20-, SATB2-, CDX2 weak/focal, MUC5AC+, MUC2-), whereas panels excluding breast, urothelial, M & uuml;llerian, neuroendocrine, and hematolymphoid differentiation were uniformly negative. Comprehensive imaging and endoscopic evaluation excluded an extra-colonic primary malignancy/ carcinoma. Mismatch repair testing revealed loss of MLH1/PMS2 expression with preserved MSH2/MSH6. This case underscores that, in such uncommon colorectal variants, reliance on immunophenotype alone may mislead, and that definitive diagnosis necessitates integrated clinicopathologic correlation, exhaustive sampling, and exclusion of alternative primaries/primary malignancies/carcinomas to confirm a primary colonic poorly cohesive adenocarcinoma with focal signet-ring differentiation.

COMPARISON OF INSTANT EFFECT OF LUMBAL AND SACROILAC SPINAL MANIPULATION ON FLEXIBILITY AND JUMPING PERFORMANCE IN PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYERS

Dönmez, Beyza; Hatik, Sefa Haktan; Büyükkirli, Ilker Can; Aydin, Emine Busra

Recent evidence suggests that spinal manipulation can acutely improve mobility and lower-limb performance. This study compared the acute effects of lumbar and sacroiliac chiropractic manipulation on flexibility nd jump performance. Forty-five healthy male participants were randomly assigned to three groups: a Lumbar Manipulation Group (LMG; n = 15), a Sacroiliac Manipulation Group (SMG; n = 15), and a Control Group (n = 15). Flexibility was assessed using the V-Sit and Reach test, while performance was evaluated with vertical and horizontal jump tests. Lumbar manipulation was applied to the dysfunctional lumbar segment in the LMG, and sacroiliac joint manipulation was applied to the dysfunctional sacroiliac region in the SMG. No intervention was performed in the control group. Both manipulation techniques resulted in significant acute improvements in mobility and jump performance compared with the control group (p < 0.05), with the greatest improvement observed in vertical jump height (p = 0.001). No significant differences were found between the LMG and SMG. Spinal manipulation to the lumbar and sacroiliac regions appears to produce acute improvements in mobility and lower-limb power. These findings suggest that spinal manipulation may serve as a short-term performance-enhancing intervention.

Sayilir, Ozlem; Chelery Komath, Muhammed Aslam; Karaaslan, Ibrahim

The energy sector has relatively higher exposure to scandals and controversial publicity due to the nature of industry operations. AThus, this study focuses on the energy sector to evaluate the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) controversy scores of LSEG database on market value of firms. We investigate the relationship between ESG controversies and the market value of 393 firms using annual data from 2013 to 2022 through Dynamic Panel Data system GMM Regression Models. The findings of the study reveal that the market value of firms in the previous period has had a statistically significant positive effect on the market value of firms in the current period. Our analysis reveals a positive and statistically significant association between Governance Controversy scores and market value. Our findings suggest governance controversies have the most direct and measurable impact on firm value in the energy sector, possibly due to their stronger influence on operational performance and investor confidence. Implications of the study may help investors and policymakers to make decisions that prioritize ESG considerations in the energy sector as firms with fewer governance controversies are rewarded by investors with higher valuations.

The Idea of Hanafism in Imam al-Rabbani and the Defense of Abu Hanifa

    Karayígít, Iskender; Yilmaz, Fetullah

Imam al-Rabbani (d. 1034/1624), who came to the forefront in Islamic history mostly with his Sufi identity and was known as the sheikh of the order, although he mostly focused on Sufism, stood against the efforts to distort Islam during his lifetime and struggled in the theological and political fields. In this context, he made efforts to ensure the failure of Akbar Shah's (d. 1014/1605) project of Din-i Ilahi. In addition to his important works in the fields of sufism and theology, Imam al-Rabbani was also interested in many issues of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and its history. As a person who inherited the legacy of his predecessors, he felt the need to speak on many issues related to fiqh. One of these is the criticism made about Ab & umacr; Hanifa (d. 150/767) and his school of thought. Imam al-Rabbani, especially in his work Makt & umacr;bat, was involved in the debates around the concepts of ahl al-ra'y and ahl al-hadith, and naturally tried to defend the Hanafi sect to which he belonged and its imam Ab & umacr; Hanifa with a number of evidences from different perspectives. He objected to the characterization of the Hanafi imams as mere ra'yists (lit. opinionists), stating that they accepted hadiths but also had their own methods of deriving rulings. Again, he was not contented with only some 'scientific' evidences in his discussion of Hanafism, but he also strengthened his defense with spiritual, allegorical, and mystical arguments, such as the similarity between Jesus Christ and Ab & umacr; Hanifa in ijtihad, the fact that Jesus would act in accordance with the Hanafi school of thought after his descent, and the fact that Hanafi sect possesses the perfection of prophethood. By responding to the claims of the opponents in this way, Imam al-Rabbani tried to justify the Hanafi school of thought. In this article, some of the spiritual-ischemic qualities that Imam al-Rabbani attributed to Hanaf is and his responses and defenses to the allegations put forward by some ahl al-hadith scholars will be discussed.

    Akyüz, Ahmet Mutlu; Durmus, Ibrahim

It is essential for young Turkish individuals (university students) to rapidly develop their skills and abilities to take on leadership roles in society. To become well-equipped individuals who contribute to societal welfare and development, these young adults must undergo a healthy adolescent maturity process. Therefore, providing a supportive environment for Turkish adolescents during their maturation is crucial. This study investigates how fulfilling all hierarchical needs (PSN, LBN, ESAN) affects Turkish adolescents' life satisfaction (LS) and their personal (PM), familial (FM), and social (SM) maturity levels. The study sample consists of 397 Turkish university students. The proposed research model was tested using PLS-SEM analysis. The findings indicate that fulfilling all hierarchical needs positively affects life satisfaction. Additionally, life satisfaction serves as a mediator between the fulfillment of hierarchical needs and maturity levels. However, the most fundamental physical and security needs are not adequately met, hindering personal maturity. Furthermore, love and belonging needs and esteem and self-actualization needs positively impact all maturity levels.

The Impact of Nuclear Energy on Environmental, Economic, and Agricultural Dynamics: New Evidence for More Sustainability

Akar, Gokhan; Akyol, Hikmet; Saritas, Tufan

The extremes caused by climate change threaten the economic and agricultural future of nations. This research examined the impact of NE (nuclear energy) on CO2, GDP and Agro-Production Indices (API) for 24 developed and developing countries. The results of the research showed that the variables are cointegrated in the long run. The estimated results of FMOLS and AMG revealed that the use of NE reduces CO2 and increases environmental quality. In this context, our results show that NE contributes to environmental, economic and agricultural sustainability. We found that oil consumption negatively affects all API, and renewable energy (RE) consumption negatively affects agricultural and food production indices. Causality analyses showed that NE policies are compatible with environmental and RE policies. Therefore, the use of NE can play a crucial role in the transition to clean energy in research countries and in the adaptation of the agricultural sector to RE sources. In these countries, it is important to encourage policies that will reduce the dependence of the agricultural sector on fossil fuel consumption and reduce costs in the transition to clean energy sources in terms of food security and sustainable agriculture practices. The integration of nuclear energy into the agricultural sector can contribute to reducing input costs in the agricultural sector and reducing fluctuations and volatilities in food prices. In addition, the continuity of energy supply, technological innovation and infrastructure investments provided by nuclear energy can play a key role in the transition to clean energy and the achievement of the sustainable development goals of countries.

Optimizing Land Image Classification: A Deep Learning Approach with ResNet-101 on the EuroSAT Dataset

    Celik, Fatih; Celik, Kemal

The classification of image is essential to make LULC (Land Use Land Cover) maps. However, the classification of land cover plays a vital role for studying and modernizing the land areas. Recently, deep learning (DL) techniques have achieved outstanding performance in the classification of high-resolution images. Different techniques have been employed in traditional methods to identify LULC due to its complex and ever-changing nature. However, these studies have shown improved outcomes despite some restrictions such as inaccuracies and reduced performance. To address these problems, the proposed study introduces a Squeeze Synchronization Layer (SSL) and a Convolve Craft Focus Module (CCFM) where, SSL reduces input data complexity by removing noise and irrelevant information from images using pooling and convolutional operations also, CCFM enhances feature extraction to improve land classification accuracy. The EUROSAT land image dataset is utilized for the evaluation of the introduced model. Whereas, the dataset comprises of 64x64 images, which are captured by satellite Sentinel-2A in ResNet 101 input layer. Although, a SSL is suggested, and a CCFM is implemented in the convolutional layer for classifying land images. However, the efficiency of the system is evaluated by measuring performance metrics such as recall, F1score, precision, and accuracy values of the proposed system. The accuracy value of the proposed system is 96% of accuracy, 100% of precision, 100% of recall, and 100% of F1-score, signifies the superior efficiency of the proposed model.
