- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The Interactive Roles of Frustrations and Religious Attitudes on Aggression
Maraşlıoğlu, Şerife Ericek
Recent data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reveal a worrisome escalation in aggression rates among young individuals, including incidents of injury, criminal involvement, and criminal activity. In this context, the basic objective of the present study is to examine the moderating effect of religious attitudes on the relationship between frustration and aggressive behavior. The study data were collected through an online cross-sectional survey conducted with 729 participants (523 female, 206 male) randomly selected between the ages of 18 and 25. To collect the data, the Aggression Scale, the Religious Attitude Scale, and the Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction and Frustration Scale were used. The results showed that frustration was positively related to physical aggression, hostility, anger, and verbal aggression. In contrast, religious attitudes were negatively related to physical aggression, hostility, anger, verbal aggression, and frustration. Additionally, religious attitudes played a moderating role in the relationship between frustration and physical aggression and hostility. However, the findings indicated that religious attitude failed to reduce the effect of frustration on anger and verbal aggression. The results of the study indicate that religious attitudes significantly influence the impact of frustrations on tendencies toward anger and verbal aggression. These findings reveal a complex relationship between frustration and aggression, which depends on the degree of religious inclination. In light of these findings, it is recommended that guidance programs based on religious values be developed—within the framework of the existing literature—to help reduce aggression levels among individuals experiencing need frustration.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the family perceptions of adolescents in cases of child sexual abuse reported to judicial authorities. Material and Methods: In this qualitative investigation, semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 children who were exposed to qualified sexual abuse and lived in a northern Turkish city. The criterion sampling method, a purposive sampling technique, was used to select study participants. Interviews were carried out until data saturation was achieved. All interviews were meticulously recorded and subsequently transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was employed to interpret the data. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist guidelines were adhered to throughout the study. Results: In the analysis of the data, three overarching categories (reflections on family relationships, sexual abuse and relationships with family, and situations in the family that are desired to change or improve) and eight sub-themes (mother, father, siblings, directly or indirectly, cognitive dimension, emotional dimension and behavioral dimension) were obtained. Conclusion: In this study, it was found that the outcomes related to family dynamics of adolescents who were victims of sexual abuse are very important for healthy mental development. In this context, early detection of negativities related to family dynamics and identification of risky families are very important.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Fragile Routes: The Impact of Israel's Confrontational Policies on Trade Routes
Sancak, Kadir
The geopolitical position of the Middle East has a strategic value in the functioning of Eurasian trade routes. Accordingly, security issues in the region directly affect the realization and sustainability of trade projects. Israels Palestinian policies disrupt the security balance in the Middle East, posing risks to major trade projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the IMEC Project and the Development Road. Recognizing that trade and security are inextricably linked, this study examines the current state and future of these projects from a security perspective. Based on a comprehensive literature review using qualitative analysis, this study evaluates the effects of instability in the Middle East on trade routes. The study reveals that trade projects in the region will be at risk of instability unless security issues are resolved. The first part of the study discusses the relationship between trade and security in a conceptual framework. Then, Israel's Palestinian policies are briefly touched upon and it is stated that these policies negatively affect the security of the Middle East. In the last part, major trade projects are discussed and how these projects are affected by Israel's policies. The findings show that the Southern Corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative has a fragile structure, the IMEC Project cannot be realized due to security problems, and the Development Road offers a more reliable alternative under current conditions. If security and stability cannot be ensured in the Middle East, it is anticipated that it will be difficult for trade projects to operate permanently and effectively.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The Memory Destruction and Reconstruction Games within the Scope of Persianization Politics in Iran
Dinç, Artum
This research examines how collective memory management has influenced the images, symbols, historical artifacts, names, and language of Turkish culture in Iran since 1925 and how Turks for anti-discrimination have responded. This study employed a qualitative research model, with data collected through a relevant literature review and interviews. The sample was selected from Turks who have expressed reactions to the Persianization process. The findings were obtained through open and axial coding of the collected data and an inductive inquiry strategy. The findings revealed that, in line with the assimilation (Persianization) policies implemented in Iran, historiography and memory management practices based on Persian nationalism have been perpetuated against Turkish identity and its collective memory. This process is carried out by erasure, forgetting, amnesia, annulment, obsoletion, abandoning, humiliating, and banning symbolic representations, historical artifacts, names, and the language belonging to Turkish culture. The findings also demonstrated that Turks have not remained passive in the face of these practices but have actively sought to commemorate and preserve their language, names, historical events, artifacts, and heroes through artistic events, ceremonies, sports competitions, new media, legal channels and protests. From the selective coding of the findings, it can be concluded that the management of collective memory based on essentialist, monist, exclusionary and supremacist Persian nationalism are nowadays being questioned and debated in intellectual discussion, political competition and everyday life scenes. It can be concluded that the attitude of the political authority is not towards recognizing ethnonational diversity and their rights in Iran, but towards maintaining uncertainty.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Cultural and Institutional Dimensions of Belarus–Iran Relations
Dinç, Artum
This article examines the cultural and institutional dimensions of Belarus–Iran relations from the 1990s to the present through a cultural sociology perspective. It explores how social institutions—including family, education, science and technology, media, diplomacy, religion, and economic frameworks—have shaped and been shaped by this bilateral relationship. The research situates Belarus–Iran ties within frameworks of cultural diplomacy, soft power, and constructivist international relations. The findings indicate that shared values (for example, traditional family norms and sovereignty), mutual educational and scientific exchanges, coordinated media narratives, religious and cultural interactions, and sanctions-driven economic collaboration have together fostered a unique cross-cultural partnership. The analysis highlights how cultural diplomacy and institutional cooperation underpin the alliance, offering insights into how two sanctioned, ideologically aligned states leverage culture and institutions to reinforce their strategic partnership.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Gender Analysis in the Islamic Law-Based Ecofeminism Movement for Ecosystem Protection
Malik, Ihyani; Karimullah, Suud Sarim; Okur, Hüseyin; Rahman
The ecological crisis reflects the failure of ethical relations between humans, nature, and power structures, thus demanding a review of the paradigm of domination that underlies these relations. This study analyzed how the principles of Islamic law can be integrated with the ideas of ecofeminism to create more inclusive and sustainable environmental policies. The study used an intersectional approach with comprehensive literature analysis and gender analysis frameworks to understand how social identity affects women's participation in ecofeminism and environmental protection based on Islamic law principles. The results of the study state that the integration of the principles of ecofeminism and Islamic law has excellent potential to create fair and sustainable environmental policies based on justice (‘adl), balance (mizan), and responsibility (khalifah). The concept of khalifah affirms the role of humans as custodians of the earth, provides a theological reason to support environmental conservation and inspires collective responsibility, including the role of women as essential agents. Programs that give women access to land and natural resources increase their participation in agriculture and environmental management, reduce poverty, and strengthen their role as agents of change. However, challenges such as resistance from patriarchal communities, lack of financial and technical support, and the need for ongoing education and training must be overcome. Technology also plays a crucial role in supporting inclusive and sustainable environmental policies.
- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2025Gray Divorce in the Shadow of Modernization: Changing Family Dynamics in Türkiye
Aydin, Selcuk; Sahin, Abdurrahim; Bahadir, Muhammed
Gray divorce, defined as the dissolution of marriages among individuals aged 50 and above, has become an increasingly significant issue in Türkiye. Official statistics in Türkiye show that between 2001 and 2024, divorces among individuals aged 50 and above increased both in absolute numbers and as a proportion of total divorces, rising nearly threefold during this period. These increases reflect broader demographic and social changes, such as population ageing, longer life expectancy, changing expectations of marriage, and shifting gender norms. Using sociological literature on modernization and family change, as well as official statistical data, this review synthesises existing knowledge and situates gray divorce within global debates on family transformation. Findings from gray divorce studies indicate that women’s increasing autonomy, life cycle transitions such as retirement or empty nest experiences, and greater societal acceptance of divorce contribute to this trend. Furthermore, gray divorces have broad implications for intergenerational relationships, care responsibilities, and social policies. Specifically in Türkiye, regional differences show that divorce among the elderly is more prevalent in western urbanized provinces, where individualism and secular values prevail, and significantly less common in eastern regions, where traditional and religious norms are stronger. The increasing prevalence of this phenomenon highlights the need for more empirical research and policy responses that are appropriate to Türkiye’s demographic, regional, and cultural transformations.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025What is the relationship between fairness and trust in terms of tax compliance?
Günay, Hamdi Furkan
Two frequently researched factors in the tax compliance literature are perceptions of fairness and trust. Nevertheless, what is known about the relationship between the two variables is limited. Different findings in the literature have encouraged further research. This study aims to examine the relationship between fairness and trust in tax compliance and the role of these variables with multivariate statistical tests. In this direction, survey data were collected from 540 self-employed taxpayers in Istanbul/Turkey. As a result of the multivariate statistical tests carried out by dividing the data in two, the following conclusions were reached: (1) in line with the findings in the literature, perceptions of tax fairness and trust in tax authorities are essential determinants of tax compliance intention; (2) tax fairness positively affects trust in authorities and trust in authorities positively affects tax fairness; (3) both the mediating and moderating role of trust in tax authorities in the relationship between perceptions of tax fairness and tax compliance intention are confirmed; and (4) although there is a mediating effect of perceptions of tax fairness in the relationship between trust in tax authorities and tax compliance intention, the existence of a moderating effect could not be detected.

This study comprehensively examines the psychological impacts of the Instagram access ban implemented in Turkey between August 2, 2024, and August 10, 2024, how these impacts are reflected in social consequences and cultural perceptions, and also assesses the adaptation strategies that individuals develop in response to the ban. Data were collected from 80 participants residing in Erzurum through online surveys and analyzed using MAXQDA 24 software. The findings suggest that the access ban had various psychological effects, with some participants experiencing changes in their social relationships and difficulties in accessing information. The impacts on social bonds and solidarity varied among participants, with some cases showing intensified social interactions. In terms of cultural perceptions, changes were observed in individuals' views on freedom and expression rights. The study provides important insights into how social media access bans can influence individual perceptions and social structures, suggesting that these findings could contribute to shaping social media policies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Intersectionality in Social Justice: Unpacking the Complexity of Oppression
Suyahman; Karimullah, Suud Sarim; Syahril, Muh. Akbar Fhad
This study aims to understand, explain, and address the complexities of oppression in a multicultural and multiethnic society such as ASEAN. This study uses a law-based methodological approach that integrates intersectionality, postcolonial, feminist, critical race, and queer theories concerning international legal instruments. Based on the results of the study, mapping the landscape of intersectionality in ASEAN reveals how the interaction of gender, race, class, religion, and sexual orientation creates multiple discriminations, such as those experienced by female migrant workers, the LGBTQ+ community, and religious and ethnic minorities, who are often marginalised in legal systems and public policies. While international instruments demand protection without discrimination, inconsistent implementation of laws in ASEAN exacerbates existing structural injustices. Therefore, a transformative strategy for social justice in ASEAN requires a rights-based approach that focuses on empowering vulnerable groups, their active participation in decision-making processes, and legal reforms that integrate principles of intersectionality to ensure equitable access to justice. This approach can only succeed if ASEAN countries align domestic policies with international standards, strengthen inclusive legal systems, and empower regional mechanisms such as the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) to more effectively uphold human rights in the region.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Cyber incivility: the silent threat shattering teachers’ mental health and happiness at work. Does gender matter?
Demirbağ, Orkun; Örs, Şerife
The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to the education sector, forcing a rapid shift to distance learning that exposed teachers to new challenges, including cyber incivility. This study, grounded in the Conservation of Resources Theory, investigates how mental health problems mediate the relationship between cyber incivility and happiness at work, with gender as a moderating factor. Data were collected from 632 high school teachers in Türkiye, who participated in distance education, using hypothetical scenarios and analysed through the Hayes Process Macro Model 4 and Model 7. The findings reveal that mental health problems significantly mediate the impact of cyber incivility on workplace happiness, with gender moderating this relationship. Specifically, female teachers experienced more mental health issues due to cyber incivility compared to their male counterparts. This research highlights the harmful effects of cyber incivility on teachers’ mental health and provides critical insights for developing policies to address these challenges. The study emphasises the importance of supporting teachers’ well-being amidst the ongoing digitalisation of education. By addressing these issues, the study contributes to a better understanding of the complexities educators face in the evolving digital landscape.

Hsb, Putra Halomoan; Siregar, Fatahuddin Aziz; Karimullah, Suud Sarim
This study explores the concept of marbagi dos in relation to the changing inheritance practices of the Mandailing community, viewed through the lens of legal culture. Marbagi dos, which literally means equal in the Mandailing indigenous people, has traditionally had a very important social dimension and equality. The type of research methodology used in this study is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The research data was obtained through interview techniques and participatory observation. In-depth interviews will be carried out with traditional leaders, scholars, and community members who play a direct role in the inheritance process. Using a legal culture approach, this study analyzes how the changes in values in Mandailing society are influenced by Islam which has implications for changes in inheritance practices in Mandailing, as well as how the community balances customary traditions with modern equality demands. The results of the study show that this inheritance transformation is a reflection of the adaptation of the Mandailing people to social changes, while maintaining cultural values within the framework of customary law. The implications of this study suggest that customary law is dynamic and capable of adapting to Islamic law and state law, highlighting the need for synergy between these three legal systems in crafting more inclusive policies.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Investigation of perceived parental attitude in children exposed to sexual abuse: A case-control study
Bayrak, Nurten Gülsüm; Emirza, Elif Güzide; Uzun, Sevda
Background: The enduring impact of children being subjected to sexual abuse is characterized by lasting traumatic effects. Aims: This study aims to assess the influence of perceived parental attitudes on the incidence of sexual abuse in children who have experienced such abuse, comparing them with a control group. Methods: The research took place at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of a hospital in northern Turkey and in the pediatric outpatient clinics of the same institution. The study evaluated 101 children who were exposed to sexual abuse and 100 children who were not. Data collection took place between November 2022 and August 2023. The study employed a ‘Descriptive Information Form’ and the ‘Parental Attitude Scale’ for both case and control groups. The t-test for independent samples, descriptive statistics, and logistic regression analysis were used for data analysis. Results: Analysis of scores from the Parental Attitude Scale revealed significantly lower mean scores in acceptance-involvement and strictness-supervision in the case group (p <.05). The mean scores for ‘acceptance-involvement’ (X¯ = 22.82 ± 6.26, X¯ = 25.71 ± 3.89) were highest in the case and control groups. Neglectful attitude (38.6%) was more prevalent in the case group, while the control group exhibited a higher frequency of democratic attitude (37%). In terms of predictors, acceptance-involvement (OR = 1.091, p =.005) and maternal employment (OR = 4.410, p <.001) were identified as the most significant predictors of exposed to sexual abuse. The study’s Cronbach’s alpha value for the scale was α =.743. Conclusion: The study’s findings on parental attitudes suggest a potential connection between children’s exposure to sexual abuse and inadequate parental acceptance, involvement, supervision, and control.

Child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention programs contribute to increases in children’s knowledge and skills to protect themselves from CSA. However, there is a paucity of research investigating self-protection behaviors among children to demonstrate whether relevant CSA knowledge and skills are transferable in risky situations. We aimed to examine the effectiveness of the “I am learning to protect myself with Mika” program on preschool children’s self-protection behaviors. The sample included 51 preschool children (54.9% girls) from Izmir, Turkey and their parents. The mean age of the children was 65.57 months (SD = 7.21). The present study employed a posttest-only control group design, and the classrooms were randomly assigned to the intervention and wait-list comparison groups. The participating teachers implemented the program over a five-week period. Then, children’s self-protection behavior was assessed with children from both groups using a role-play scenario involving a request from a stranger. Accordingly, we tested whether children in the intervention group were more likely to demonstrate self-protection behaviors compared to those in the comparison group. The findings showed that the intervention group (77.3%) rejected the offer from strangers and behaved more safely than did the wait-list comparison group (24.2%; χ2(1) = 13.879, p < 0.001). “I am learning to protect myself with Mika” was found to be effective in contributing to preschoolers’ self-protective behaviors. The promising results obtained in this study may encourage further exploration of the behavioral outcomes of sexual abuse prevention programs.
