- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Effect of Breastfeeding Education Delivered Through Motivational Interviewing on Breastfeeding Motivation, Self-Efficacy, and Maternal Bonding in Mothers Giving Vaginal Birth: Randomized, Controlled Trial
Palancı Ay, Özge; Aktaş, Songül
Objectives: This study examined the effect of breastfeeding education using the motivational interviewing technique on breastfeeding motivation, self-efficacy, and mother–infant bonding in mothers who gave birth vaginally. Methods: This randomized, controlled trial included 80 primiparous mothers. The experimental group received breastfeeding education with the motivational interviewing technique at four time points. Data were collected using Maternal Descriptive Information Form (MDIF), the Primiparous Breastfeeding Motivation Scale (PBMS), the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES), the Mother–Infant Bonding Scale (MIBS), and the Motivational Interviewing Importance and Confidence-Efficacy Rating Scale. Data were collected at three time points: immediately before training (pretest), 15 days following completion of the training (post-test), and 4 weeks thereafter (follow-up). Data were evaluated using Student’s t test, Mann–Whitney U test, analysis of variance, Friedman variance test, and intention-to-treat analysis. Results: In the post-test and follow-up evaluations, the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores than the control group in the “Value ascribed to breastfeeding” (p < 0.001 and p = 0.004, respectively) and “Midwife support” (p < 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively) subdimensions of the PBMS as well as in “Motivational interviewing importance” (p < 0.005) and “Confidence-efficacy rating scale” (p < 0.001). During the follow-up period, the experimental group also showed significantly higher scores in the “Self-efficacy” subdimension (p < 0.001) and total mean scores of the BSES (p = 0.033) and MIBS (p = 0.002) than the control group. However, the “Expectation of success” subdimension score of the PBMS was not significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Breastfeeding education using the motivational interviewing technique enhances breastfeeding motivation (including values ascribed to breastfeeding, self-efficacy, and midwife support), breastfeeding self-efficacy, mother–infant bonding, and the importance and confidence-efficacy levels in breastfeeding. © The Author(s) 2026. - MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Enhancing precision of low-cost detectors via machine learning for accurate mass attenuation coefficient estimation
Düzgün, İ.; Küçük, M.A.; Kaya, S.; Çelik, N.
Low-cost NaI(Tl) detectors are practical for gamma-ray spectrometry but their limited energy resolution can introduce systematic errors in mass attenuation coefficient measurements when scattered photons are included in the peak region. This study proposes a machine-learning correction framework that maps NaI(Tl)-derived attenuation coefficients to XCOM-based HPGe-equivalent reference values through a dimensionless correction factor. An EGS4/XCOM dataset of 756 model-development configurations, covering 18 atomic numbers, six monoenergetic photon energies, and seven collimator radii, was used to train twelve regression models and evaluate them over 60 randomized train–validation–test cycles. Sodium and Bismuth were withheld for external material-wise validation. Gaussian Process Regression with a Matérn 5/2 kernel provided the best overall testing performance. For the withheld materials, the correction reduced the mean deviation from XCOM references from 3.07% to 0.83%, supporting its use as a practical correction layer for low-cost attenuation measurements.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Psychological distress and food neophobia: the mediating role of food choice motives among university students
Kocak, Tevfik; Kocyigit, Emine; Ozbek, Yagmur Demirel
Background: Food neophobia, defined as the reluctance to try unfamiliar foods, reduces dietary diversity and quality in young adults. University students, often subjected to psychological discomfort including sadness, anxiety, and stress, may be especially susceptible to restrictive eating behaviors. This study examined the link be-tween psychological distress and food neophobia, focusing on the mediating role of food choice motives in Turkish students. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 801 Turkish university students (232 males and 569 females). The data collection included the Food Neophobia Scale (FNS), the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ). The body mass in-dex was calculated using self-reported anthropometric measurements. Statistical analyses comprised correlations, multivariable linear regression, and mediation mod-eling using Hayes’ PROCESS macro with 5000 bootstrap samples. Results: Food neophobia was positively associated with all DASS-21 subscales (p < 0.001). Regression analyses identified depression (p < 0.001), stress (p = 0.001), convenience (p = 0.001), and ethical concern (p < 0.001) as significant positive predictors, whereas natural con-tent showed a negative association (p = 0.046). Mediation analyses indicated that food choice motives partially explained the associations between psychological distress and food neophobia. Convenience and ethical concern consistently acted as mediators of risk, while natural content demonstrated a more complex role. Conclusions: Food neophobia among university students is influenced by both psychological distress and food choice motives. Depression and stress exert stronger effects than anxiety, with convenience and ethical concern functioning as consistent mediators.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Computational analysis of radiation shielding properties of BaO-modified magnesium borophosphate glasses based on WinXCOM and EGS4 Monte Carlo simulations
Düzgün, İbrahim; Çelik, Necati; Kaya, Selim
The increasing use of ionizing radiation in medical, industrial, and nuclear applications necessitates the development of advanced and environmentally friendly shielding materials. In this study, the gamma-ray shielding performance of BaO-modified magnesium borophosphate glasses with compositions xBaO–30MgO–10P2O5–(50−x)B2O3–10Na2O (x = 0–35 mol%) was theoretically investigated. The radiation attenuation properties were evaluated over a wide photon energy range (59.54–2000 keV) using the WinXCOM database and Monte Carlo simulations based on the EGS4 code. Key shielding parameters, including mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ), half-value layer (HVL), mean free path (MFP), effective atomic number (Zeff), radiation protection efficiency (RPE), and gamma-ray kerma coefficients, were determined. The results indicate that increasing BaO content enhances the attenuation capability of the glass system, particularly in the low and medium photon energy regions, due to increased density and effective atomic number. A good agreement between WinXCOM and EGS4 results confirms the reliability of the applied theoretical approaches. These findings suggest that BaO-modified magnesium borophosphate glasses are promising candidates for radiation shielding applications.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ4Development of the seasonal non-monotonic Mann-Kendall test for hydroclimatic data
Şan, Murat
Climate change can show different characteristics at low and high values of a time series, leading to non-monotonic trends. The Mann-Kendall (MK) and seasonal MK tests can only detect monotonic trends and ignore different behaviors in low and high value groups. To overcome this limitation, extending the recently proposed non-monotonic MK (NMK) test, the seasonal NMK (SNMK) test is proposed. The method was applied to four stations in Türkiye with four different climatic and topographic characteristics using monthly total precipitation data for the 1969-2020 for seasonal trend behavior. The results showed that while no significant trends were detected in entire time series, intra-seasonal and annual data, both monotonic and non-monotonic significant trends emerged in seasonal analyses. Especially in two stations, opposite changes in low and high values, increased seasonal variance and non-monotonic seasonal trends were observed. The test can be used for regional trend analysis by replacing seasonal data with regional data. It is also predicted that the SNMK test can be used as an effective decision support tool in areas with high seasonality such as water resources management, agriculture, energy planning and disaster management.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Acute effects of inspiratory muscle warm-up on muscular performance and pulmonary function in natural male bodybuilders
Ceylan, Tülay; Ceylan, Levent; Yılmaz, Coşkun; Badau, Adela; Küçük, Hamza
Background: Inspiratory muscle warm-up (IWU) has been hypothesized to enhance athletic performance by pre-activating respiratory muscles; however, evidence in professional natural male bodybuilders is scarce. The present study investigated the acute effects of IWU on One-Repetition maximum (1RM) bench press performance and pulmonary function. Methods: The present randomized controlled experimental study comprised 20 male athletes with an average training experience of 3.21 ± 1.44 years, who trained for more than 5 h per week and had participated in national or international competitions. At the commencement of the study, all participants underwent a series of pulmonary function tests (PFTs), measurements of maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP and MEP), and a 1RM test. Following the initial assessments, which were conducted seventy-two hours prior, participants were randomly assigned to either the IWU group (n = 10) or the control (CON) group (n = 10). While the IWU group performed both inspiratory muscle warm-up and standard exercise warm-up, the CON group performed only the standard warm-up. Subsequent to the execution of the warm-up protocols, both groups were subjected to re-evaluation through the means of the 1RM test and respiratory parameter measurements. Results: The IWU group demonstrated a 5.96% greater enhancement in 1RM performance in comparison to the control group (p < 0.001). Furthermore, significant increases were observed in FVC, FEV1, and FEV1/FVC following IWU, with improvements of 2.57%, 2.44%, and 2.65%, respectively (p < 0.001). Furthermore, an additional 2.39% enhancement in MEP was identified in favour of the IWU group (p = 0.008). The alterations in MIP and PEF exhibited by the two groups were analogous, with no statistically significant disparities observed (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The present study has demonstrated that IWU has the capacity to rapidly enhance maximal strength and respiratory function in professional bodybuilders. Consequently, IWU can be advocated as an efficacious warm-up technique to augment exercise performance in bodybuilding athletes. Trial registration: This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov under the title “Acute effects of inspiratory muscle warmup on muscular performance and pulmonary function in natural bodybuilders’’. - MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Health sciences students’ attitudes toward artificial intelligence: predictors of ethical awareness, clinical decision-making, and public health perceptions-a cross-sectional study
Unal, Cihan; Şahin, Selim
This study investigates health sciences students’ attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) and the implications for ethical awareness, clinical decision-making, and public health. A cross-sectional survey was conducted between April 27 and May 15 2025, with 668 students from five departments at Gümüşhane University, employing the validated Artificial Intelligence Attitude Scale, which measures benefits, risks, and use, alongside 12 binary-response items assessing ethical, clinical, and public health judgments. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and logistic regression analyses were applied. Findings indicate that students perceive AI as highly beneficial (M = 4.05) but also associate it with notable risks (M = 2.52; where lower scores indicate a higher level of perceived risk due to reverse coding). Logistic regression analyses revealed that risk perception (reverse-coded; higher scores indicating lower perceived risk) was the most consistent predictor across all dimensions. Specifically, students with lower perceived risk were significantly more likely to reject concerns regarding patient privacy (OR = 2.55, 95% CI [2.03–3.21], p < 0.001), dismiss the idea that relying on AI instead of human expertise is problematic (OR = 1.57, 95% CI [1.25–1.96], p < 0.001), and reject the notion that AI systems may harm public health (OR = 2.52, 95% CI [1.98–3.20], p < 0.001). While participants endorsed AI’s potential in enhancing patient safety, chronic disease management, and preventive care, they expressed significant concerns about privacy, legal responsibility, and a potential weakening of patient–clinician communication. Gender, academic discipline, and prior AI use further differentiated attitudes. The results highlight a dual perception of AI as both an opportunity and a threat, emphasizing that successful integration in healthcare requires not only technical competence but also ethical, legal, and communicative safeguards.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Energy Consumption in the EU: The Role of Productivity and Efficiency-Driven Technology; [AB’de Enerji Tüketimi: Üretkenlik ve Verimlilik Odaklı Teknolojinin Rolü]
Çakır, Mehmet Ali; Ökte, Mehmet Kutluğhan Savaş
This study investigates how productivity and productivity-intensive technologies affect energy consumption in selected EU countries from 1996 to 2021. Despite technological progress, fossil fuels still dominate, posing environmental and economic concerns. Using the AMG method, results show that multifactor productivity significantly reduces energy use, while productivity-intensive technologies offer smaller but meaningful reductions. In contrast to prior research linking technology to higher energy demand, this study highlights the importance of efficiency-focused innovation. Findings support the EU’s 2030 energy reduction target and suggest policymakers should prioritise productivity-intensive technologies, on-the-job training, and digital tools to decouple growth from energy consumption.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3A Comparative Study of 137Cs Dose Factors for Constant and Depth-dependent Soil Densities
Çelik, Necati; Akçay, Nilay; Çevik, Uğur
Accurate assessment of external radiation dose rates from 137Cs is essential for evaluating radiological risk in environmental and occupational settings. This study refines dose conversion coefficient calculations by incorporating depth-dependent soil density and addressing limitations in conventional methods that assume constant soil density. We calculated dose conversion coefficients for 137Cs in soil, considering both exponential and Gaussian distributions of activity concentration. Using two models, one with constant density and another with variable density as a function of depth, we compared dose rates to quantify the effect of soil density variations. Results indicate that dose rates are consistently higher when depth-dependent density is applied. The effect is more pronounced when 137Cs activity is distributed over larger depths (i.e., greater relaxation lengths) or when broader Gaussian distributions are considered. This suggests that assuming constant soil density may lead to underestimations of dose rates, especially in heterogeneous or compacted soils. Our findings emphasize the importance of accounting for density variability in dose calculations to enhance radiological risk assessments for areas contaminated with 137Cs.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Institutional and relational underpinnings of vertical FDI spillovers in international buyer-supplier relationships: Insights from automotive suppliers
Nas, Tulay Ilhan; Sahin, Fatih; Golgeci, Ismail; Okan, Tarhan
This study takes a fresh approach to explore the mechanisms of foreign direct investment (FDI) spillovers in the context of emerging economy firms, specifically focusing on the Turkish automotive industry. Given emerging economy firms' inherent constraints in R&D and resources, FDI serves as a critical avenue for them to acquire technological and managerial knowledge. While previous literature has extensively analyzed spillovers from an economic perspective, our research introduces a neoinstitutional perspective in organizational sociology to understand how these spillovers manifest and influence productivity and innovation. Importantly, we examine the role of international buyer-supplier relationships, a key aspect in shaping spillover outcomes. In so doing, we draw on rich qualitative data from 7 Turkish direct and sub-suppliers of large automotive multinational enterprises (MNEs). Our findings underscore the significant influence of the institutional context and relational mechanisms on the effectiveness of FDI spillovers, revealing why anticipated positive effects may not always materialize. This study contributes to the existing literature by addressing the limitations of prior research and provides practical insights for policymakers in emerging economies, empowering them to leverage FDI for economic growth and organizational success.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3The effect of mine waste ratio and curing duration on the mechanical properties of ground granulated blast furnace slag-based geopolymer mortars
Aksüt, Yavuz Selim; Nas, Evin; Sünnetçi, Kadir; Kaya, Yusuf
This study investigates the mechanical and microstructural behavior of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS)-based geopolymer mortars in which mining waste (MW) was used as a partial binder replacement (0–30%) under ambient water curing for 7–90 days. Increasing MW content reduced workability and slightly prolonged setting due to its coarser and less reactive characteristics. Mechanical performance improved with curing time and mixtures with moderate MW levels achieved the best strength and microstructural densification. Water absorption and porosity decreased with age, reflecting progressive gel formation. Scanning electron microscope–X-ray diffraction (SEM-XRD) analyses verified matrix densification and enhanced gel development at intermediate MW ratios. Overall, the findings show that controlled MW incorporation can optimize the balance between strength, pore structure and sustainability, enabling ambient cured GGBFS-based geopolymers without thermal curing. The study provides new insights by using MW as a binder phase replacement while preserving precursor chemistry, a rarely explored approach.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Chemical Profiling of Stachys cretica subsp. anatolica Rech. f. (Endemic) Essential Oils and their Methanol Extracts with Evaluation as Enzyme Inhibitors, Antioxidant, and Antimicrobial Agents
Öz, Mehmet; Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltacı, Cemalettin; Akmeşe, Osman; Sefalı, Abdurrahman; Aygül, İmdat
Enzyme inhibition activities, phenolic compounds, antioxidant activities, bioactive compounds, antimicrobial activities, and chemical components of essential oil and methanol extracts obtained from the aerial parts of S. cretica subsp. anatolica were investigated. The main phenolic compounds of aerial parts were catechin, oleuropein, and epicatechin. The determined enzyme inhibitor activities highlight the potential of S. cretica subsp. anatolica as a source of bioactive compounds, particularly for carbonic anhydrase and cholinesterase inhibition. The essential oil and methanol extract exhibited remarkable activities against CA-II, AChE, and BChE, although they were less potent than standard inhibitors. The essential oils generally showed stronger antimicrobial activity compared to the 30% methanol extracts across most bacterial and fungal strains, as evidenced by minimum lethal concentration (MLC) and lower minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values and larger inhibition zones. Chloramphenicol used alone exhibited the highest antimicrobial efficacy, with the lowest MIC and MLC values and the largest inhibition zones. The essential oils of S. cretica subsp. anatolica were determined as esters, oxygenated sesquiterpenes, and aldehydes in aerial parts. The main components were found to be hexahydrofarnesyl acetone in the aerial parts.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ4Cloning and biochemical characterization of a novel GH1 β-glucosidase from thermophilic bacterium, Anoxybacillus flavithermus DSM 2641T
Akgeyik, Aytul Uzun; Akyildiz, Esma; Karaoglu, Hakan; Beris, Fatih Saban
β-glucosidases belong to the class of glycoside hydrolases (GHs) and can mediate the cleavage of β-1-4 glycosidic bonds in alkyl or aryl-β-D-glucosides, amino, cyanogenic glucosides, and oligo-or disaccharides. The gene encoding β-glucosidase of Anoxybacillus flavithermus DSM2641T was subcloned and expressed in E. coli BL21 Star(DE3) cells with pET100 Directional TOPO Expression Kit. The recombinant AFBGL was purified by a Ni-NTA affinity chromatography. The enzyme was 53 kDa and had 5.13 × 105 µmol/min/mg protein of Vmax and 422.3 µM of Km towards p-nitrophenyl β-D-glucoside as a main substrate. The optimum temperature and pH of the purified enzyme were 65°C and 6.8, respectively. We also determined kinetic parameters of AFBGL against the other artificial substrats, pNPC, pNPX, and oNPG. The enzyme had the Vmax and Km for 5.13 × 105 µmol/min/mg protein and 0.42 mM for pNPG, 0.007 µmol/min/mg protein and 0.19 mM for pNPC, 0.01 µmol/min/mg protein and 11.97 mM for pNPX, 0.06 µmol/min/mg protein and 0.134 mM for oNPG, respectively. AFBGL's substrate affinity was found to be more directed towards oNPG. Although 0.5 mM Mg2+ increases the enzyme's activity 1.6-fold, higher concentrations of Mg2+ and the presence of K+, Fe2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, and Al3+ decreases its activity. AFBGL retained 50% of the initial activity towards pNPG for 25 min and the activity was not detected after 225 min. According to amino acid motifs, AFBGL belongs to family 1 of glycosylhydrolase and 4/7 super family. So, AFBGL is a member of GH1, as the amino acid sequence contained a GH1 specific domain.

Silkworm-rearing residues are an underused biomass resource that can be converted into value-added products. In this study, a condensable liquid product (SWP-Liq) was produced from these residues by pyrolysis at 325 ± 5 °C and evaluated for its chemical composition and in vitro biological activities. SWP-Liq yielded phenolic-, flavonoid-, and triterpenoid-equivalent values of 218.47 ± 22.40 mg GAE/g, 79.13 ± 3.55 mg QE/g, and 55.54 ± 6.15 mg EE/g, respectively. The ABTS•+ assay showed a higher radical-scavenging response than DPPH, while Fe3+- and Cu2+-reducing activities were also observed. SWP-Liq inhibited 5-LOX with an IC50 of 33.05 ± 1.10 µg/mL, whereas α-glucosidase inhibition was weaker. Antibacterial activity against all four tested bacterial species was observed at 8 mg/mL but not at 4 mg/mL. Targeted LC–MS/MS quantified five phenolic constituents, with p-coumaric acid (1599.71 µg/g), chlorogenic acid (871.43 µg/g), and ferulic acid (285.50 µg/g) being the most abundant. Overall, these findings support the further investigation of silkworm feeding waste as a feedstock for thermochemical valorization into chemically and biologically evaluable bio-based fractions.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Towards Greening the BRICS: Uncovering the Impact of Green Energy, Green Technology and Forest Cover on Environmental Quality
Henni, Mohamed Djafar; Ayaydın, Hasan; Akbulut Yıldız, Gizem; Orhan, Abdullah; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Abdelkader, Salim Bourchid
The BRICS economies, facing the threat of climate change, face a policy challenge in transitioning from fossil-fuel-based energy systems and improving environmental quality. This necessitates urgent policy changes in the outdated energy infrastructure of BRICS countries. However, there still remains a policy gap regarding how countries in the BRICS, a group of rapidly developing economies, can grow their economies in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. The aim of our study is to investigate the impact of green energy, green technology, and forest cover on environmental quality in BRICS countries. The BRICS group of countries offers an ideal field of study for both examining the impacts of green energy, green technology, and forest areas on environmental quality in developing economies, as well as for evaluating national and global energy policies. Although numerous studies have empirically examined the relationship between environmental variables and green initiatives, the impact of green initiatives on the load capacity factor has been overlooked. These studies have generally used various econometric methods and have not included machine learning in the process. This study addresses this research gap by focusing on green energy and green technology, which are preferred for their various advantages and make significant contributions to the load capacity factor. To analyze this relationship in BRICS economies between 2000 and 2022, the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimator and Machine Learning algorithms were used. According to the results, strong evidence emerges of a positive relationship between green energy, the digital economy, forested area, and the load capacity factor, while a negative relationship exists between green technology, growth, and the load capacity factor. Based on robust empirical findings, renewable energy sources are a key driver of clean energy adoption and can ultimately increase the load capacity factor in BRICS economies. The results also imply that, since developments in green technological innovation in BRICS countries are still in their infancy, investments in green technologies for a sustainable environment need to be qualitatively increased.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3In-depth Analysis of the Control Unit for Multiple Voltage Rails to Drive a Variety of ICs
Yanarateş, Cağfer; Altan, Aytaç
Generating a negative output voltage rail from a positive input voltage is possible by reconfiguring an ordinary buck regulator into an inverting buck-boost (IBB) topology. Rather than operating considerations such as voltage and current stresses, the main challenge associated with this transformation arises from differences in the small-signal closed-loop characteristics. The most critical distinction is the presence of a right-half-plane (RHP) zero in the control-to-output transfer function of the IBB, which introduces non-minimum-phase behaviour, reduces the achievable phase margin, and may lead to instability and poor load transient response. For conventional PI controllers, the buck and IBB converters resulted in settling times of 5.0 ms and 6.8 ms, with overshoots of 13.65% and 8.46%, respectively, thus demonstrating the performance limitations of fixed-gain designs. As a solution, an auto-tuned PI controller with adaptive features has been proposed, which operates effectively in both the buck and IBB topologies. The proposed scheme achieves a significantly faster settling time of 2.27 ms with overshoot and undershoot below 2%, thereby ensuring superior robustness and dynamic performance compared to conventional approaches.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Pyrolysis-based valorization of Pinus sylvestris bark waste into bioactive fractions: LC–MS/MS analysis and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial activities
Gül, Abdulkadir
In this study, bark waste from the forest industry derived from Pinus sylvestris was processed by pyrolysis extraction, and the chemical compositions and biological activities of the resulting light (PLF) and heavy (PHF) fractions were comparatively investigated. When the extraction yields of the pyrolysis fractions were compared, PHF (20.80%) showed a significantly higher recovery than PLF (10.35%). Total phenolic content (TPC) was higher in the PHF (365.80 GAE/g), whereas total flavonoid content (TFC) was concentrated in the PLF (200.80 mg QE/g). LC–MS/MS analyses of the PHF fraction, which exhibited more pronounced biological activity, revealed caffeic acid (7190.65 µg/g) and protocatechuic acid (2694.30 µg/g) as the predominant phenolic compounds. Antioxidant capacity analyses indicated that the PLF exhibited stronger radical scavenging activity, lower IC50 values in DPPH and ABTS⁺• assays (50.01 and 101.60 µg/mL, respectively) and higher TAC values (901.00 mg TE/L). Fe3+ and Cu2+ reducing assays demonstrated strong redox activity in both fractions, with Cu2+ reducing capacity particularly higher in PLF. In enzyme inhibition studies, the PHF showed stronger inhibition against 5-lipoxygenase (IC50 = 29.28 µg/mL) and α-glucosidase (IC50 = 82.50 µg/mL) compared to PLF. The antibacterial potential of the fractions was assessed using Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The PHF exhibited significant inhibition zones, particularly against P. aeruginosa (17.40 mm) and S. aureus (13.40 mm). Consequently, these findings suggest that pyrolysis-based fractionation may be an effective and sustainable method for converting P. sylvestris bark waste into functional fractions with high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial potential.

Çınar, Öznur; Cengiz, Ekrem
Bereaved individuals encounter the deceased through social media profiles, message histories, and algorithmic reminders, yet no validated instrument measures prolonged grief expressed through digital interactions. We developed and validated a multidimensional measure of digital-environment prolonged grief severity (DPGSS). Turkish bereaved adults (n = 577) bereaved at least 12 months earlier completed the DPGSS alongside grief, distress, and other less relevant measures, and 125 completed it again about three weeks later. Factor analyses supported a four-factor structure—digital separation distress and preoccupation, digital emotional responses, digital avoidance, and digital functional impairment—in 15 items. The correlated four-factor model fit the data well, outperforming a one-factor alternative. The DPGSS demonstrated strong internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and measurement invariance across nine demographic variables. Convergent associations with grief and distress, and negligible associations with rigidity and AI acceptance, supported its construct specificity. The DPGSS-15 is a reasonable tool for assessing digital prolonged grief.

Low-cost hydrogen storage systems are essential for the widespread use of hydrogen, particularly in mobile platforms such as unmanned aerial vehicles, to increase their range. Hydrogen storage in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), which offer high capacity through adsorption, is crucial to achieving this goal. This study investigates the hydrogen storage capacity of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), produced via reactive extrusion, which allows for high production capacity and low-cost manufacturing of MOFs. Furthermore, particular attention was given to the storage capacity of ZIF-8 in its as-produced form. An atomistic model of the as-produced ZIF-8, including impurities selected from a series of simulated models containing different amounts of impurity, was developed. The validity of the selected structure was then verified through experimental powder X-ray diffraction and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurements. Subsequently, hydrogen adsorption capacities for varying pressures and temperatures were calculated. The hydrogen adsorption simulations indicated that the atomistic model of the as-produced ZIF-8 exhibited a hydrogen storage capacity of 1.76 wt.% at 77 K and 1 bar, corresponding to a BET surface area of 516 m2/g. In comparison, the experimentally synthesized as-produced ZIF-8 showed a capacity of 1.145 wt.% under the same conditions, with a BET surface area of 520 m2/g. The study demonstrates that the gas storage performance of experimentally produced structures, even without further purification, can be accurately determined through simulation models in this semi-experimental study.
