- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Sprint and Anaerobic Power with the Soccer-Specific ACTN3 Gene: A Distintive Example; [Sprint y Potencia Anaeróbica con el Gen ACTN3 Específico del Fútbol: Un Ejemplo Distintivo]
Söyler, Mehmet; Zileli, Raif; Özkamçı, Hüseyin; Diker, Gürkan; Sever, Mehmet Onur; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Ön, Sadi; Can, Ibrahim; Ulucan, Korkut; Aslan, Beste Tacal
The aim of this study is twofold: (1) to identify differences in certain anaerobic parameters (10m sprint, 30m sprint, anaerobic power, and Illinois agility tests) between professional and amateur soccer players, and (2) to determine whether there is a difference in the ACTN3 gene polymorphism between professional and amateur soccer players. Ultimately, the goal is to reveal which parameters contribute to the differentiation in these two aspects. A total of 133 volunteer soccer players, including 71 professionals and 62 amateurs, participated in the research. DNA extraction from buccal epithelial cells was performed using a commercial kit to determine the genetic background of the athletes, and Real-Time PCR was conducted for genotyping. Statistical analysis of the findings obtained from the test results was performed using the SPSS 23 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) package program. The homogeneity of variance of the data was assessed using the Levene Test, and normal distribution analyses were conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk Test. Chi-square and Mann-Whitney U tests were employed for parameter analysis. The significance level was set at p<0.05. Evaluation of the data in our study revealed no statistically significant difference in ACTN3 rs1815739 gene polymorphism between the groups (p>0.05). However, there is a statistically significant difference in anaerobic parameters (10m sprint, 30m sprint, and anaerobic power) except for the Illinois test (p<0.05). In conclusion, our study found that gene polymorphism is not a differentiating factor between professional and amateur soccer players, but speed (10m and 30m) and anaerobic power parameters are differentiating factors.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Significance of Model Forest Stakeholders in the Management of Sustainable Forest Resources: The Case of Yalova Model Forest, Turkey
Bekiroğlu, Sultan; Özdemir, Mehmet; Özyürek, Ercan; Çakır, Günay
Success of model forests, which are organized to support sustainable management of forests in collaboration with environmental, social, and economic forces on forest-based large territories, depends on the development of civil society index dimensions defined as “stakeholder participation,” “organizational structure,” “environment,” “values,” and “impact.” In this study, which was carried out within the scope of Yalova Model Forest, situation analysis strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis was used as a method. Literature and official documents, expert opinions on “stakeholder engagement,” and data obtained through a 30-question survey were used as material. In this study, “historical development,”“legal regulations,” “activities” of Yalova Model Forest and weaknesses, strengths, opportunities, threats of civil society index and strategies pertaining to them were determined. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis was conducted by forming four separate focus groups for four dimensions of the Yalova Model Forest civil society index. According to the results of this study, the stakeholder participation dimension was concluded to be exceedingly inadequate. This is evidenced by advocate stakeholders’ insufficient participation rates in activities, absence of adverse stakeholders in this reconciliation platform, and the fact that 99% of dormant–indifferent stakeholders are unaware of this organization’s existence. Therefore, stakeholder participation dimension should be strengthened and the strategic plans that will be implemented should be prepared with the participation of stakeholders. Otherwise, Yalova Model Forest’s existence, as a civil society organization, will be jeopardized. However, active advocate stakeholders’ enthusiasm about resolving problems is reassuring for the future of Yalova Model Forest.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Empowering Muslim Women: Bridging Islamic Law and Human Rights with Islamic Economics
Insani, Nur; Ibrahim, Zumiyati Sanu; Karimullah, Suud Sarim; Gönan, Yavuz; Sulastri
This intersectional study investigates the harmonisation of Islamic law and human rights in the context of empowering Muslim women through Islamic economics. This study applies an intersectional approach in carrying out the library research method with literature analysis carried out integratively and comprehensively to explore and review various literature sources relevant to the research topic, including journal articles, books, research reports, policy documents, and other related sources of information. The results show that harmonisation between Islamic law and human rights in empowering Muslim women through Islamic economics significantly impacts achieving gender equality and supporting sustainable development. The complexity of Muslim women's identities influenced by factors such as religion, gender, and social class demands a holistic and integrated policy approach in the economy. While the Islamic economy offers great potential to enhance the role of women as agents of change and key drivers of economic development, the incompatibility between Islamic law and human rights conventions and issues of gender inequality points to the need for more inclusive legal and policy reforms. Identifying and recognising these challenges underscores the importance of adopting a comprehensive and coordinated approach. Specific measures that need to be strengthened include inter-agency cooperation, legal and policy reforms to support better gender equality, capacity building of women in the Islamic economic sector, and raising public awareness on the importance of women's empowerment. As such, this study enriches the academic literature and offers practical guidance for policymakers, stakeholders in the Islamic economy, and the general public in advocating and implementing effective and sustainable women's empowerment.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Analysis of a discrete time fractional-order Vallis system
ŞİŞMAN, Şeyma; MERDAN, Mehmet
Vallis system is a model describing nonlinear interactions of the atmosphere and temperature fluctuations with a strong influence in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean. As the model approaches the fractional order from the integer order, numerical simulations for different situations arise. To see the behavior of the simulations, several cases involving integer analysis with different non-integer values of the Vallis systems were applied. In this work, a fractional mathematical model is constructed using the Caputo derivative. The local asymptotic stability of the equilibrium points of the fractional-order model is obtained from the fundamental production number. The chaotic behavior of this system is studied using the Caputo derivative and Lyapunov stability theory. Hopf bifurcation is used to vary the oscillation of the system in steady and unsteady states. In order to perform these numerical simulations, we apply Grünwald–Letnikov tactics with Binomial coefficients to obtain the effects on the non-integer fractional degree and discrete time vallis system and plot the phase diagrams and phase portraits with the help of MATLAB and MAPLE packages.
- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2024Taxation as a Policy Instrument For Social and Economic Effects of Gambling
Günay, Hamdi Furkan
The personal and social benefits and harms of gambling, which has been more accessible, diversified, and widespread thanks to global internet use, sometimes find their place in country agendas. Due to its characteristics, the gambling sector requires effective management through public policies. In this direction, governments determine sectoral policies in two ways: by choosing to ban gambling activities completely or by regulating the sector by legalizing certain types. In this context, taxes stand out as one of the policy tools adopted by many countries. This research aimed to evaluate the success of taxes–as a public policy tool–in controlling the social and economic effects of the gambling industry. Through a systematic review, the role and success of taxation against the social and economic influences of gambling have been evaluated in light of literature research and application examples. The present study revealed that taxes, as a policy tool, are insufficient and may lead to undesirable results in combating gambling, which has limited-positive contributions to the country's economies but harms society by creating severe addictions and other irreversible social costs.
- MakaleYalnız künye2024Reliability generalization meta-analysis of the food neophobia scale: Turkish sample
Polat, Eray; Çalişkan, Serkan
Purpose: The Food Neophobia Scale developed by Pliner and Hobden (1992) has been widely utilized globally and in Turkey for many years to measure people's fear of new foods. This study aims to determine the mean value by conducting a reliability generalization meta-analysis for the reported reliability coefficients of individual studies in Turkey's tourism field, which employed Pliner and Hobden's scale to investigate food neophobia. Additionally, this study explores variations in the mean value among subgroups. Methods: A reliability generalization meta-analysis based on a random-effects model was conducted to examine the heterogeneity of reliability coefficients in the study, along with heterogeneity analyses and moderator analyses. Results: Based on the analysis of 48 independent samples (N= 23306), the transformed mean Cronbach's alpha value was estimated to be .827 (95% CI [.796-.853]) and found to be significant. The Q-test and I2 values reveal significant heterogeneity between alpha coefficients, indicating a notable variation in the measurement reliability across samples. Moderator analyses using analog to the ANOVA and meta-regression analyses showed that reliability coefficients differed according to the variables of publication type, sample type, and proportion of women in the sample. Implications: The results offer valuable insight for researchers seeking to select appropriate scales for investigating food neophobia.

Afyonoğlu, Meliha Funda; Yiğit, Rabia Ruveyda; Mısırlı, Gökçe Nur; Bilgin, Özkan
This research investigates the experiences of social work graduates as youth who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET) by employing an intersectional perspective. In-depth interviews were conducted with 21 social work graduates who are unemployed for at least a year. The findings encompass three key themes: being NEET, the reasons for being NEET, and solutions proposed by social work graduates as NEET. The findings evaluate the shared experiences among participants while endeavoring to elucidate how these experiences diverge concerning various social categories. From an intersectional perspective, the results expose disparities in the NEET experience, considering factors such as gender, marital status, being a parent, class, social capital, geographical location, and societal perceptions. The research is expected to contribute to the body of knowledge concerning educated NEETs and the unique strength of it lies in the absence of previous investigations pertaining to NEETs as social work graduates. It is advised that individual and structural factors should be considered in analyzing the experience of being NEET and that micro, meso, and macro social work interventions should be developed in terms of these factors. Furthermore, future research endeavors can focus on evaluating the efficacy of interventions and conducting comprehensive mixed-method studies.

Aktaş, Esra; Atmaca, Hatice Ediz; Akbulut, Hatice Erdoğan
Operating rooms (OR) are one of the most expensive parts of a hospital with complex processes, and the efficient use of resources is of utmost importance. Therefore, proper management and operation of operating rooms are extremely crucial. OR scheduling ensures that the surgeries are performed at the proper time, patients are treated effectively and safely, resources are used effectively, and staff is increased in work efficiency. Furthermore, accurately scheduled surgeries are safer for patients' healing processes. This is dependent on factors such as the availability of qualified personnel at the appropriate time, the readiness of surgical equipment, and the pro-vision of proper sterilization and hygienic conditions. Surgical team scheduling ensures that surgeries begin on time, are completed effectively, and patients are treated safely. It is also critical to reduce employee fatigue and balance the workload. As a result, integrating surgical teams into operating room scheduling problems provides significant benefits. Accordingly, 29 research articles focusing on the problem of OR scheduling, within the scope of constraints on surgical team members, scheduling strategies, uncertainties, and solution methods, are thoroughly re-viewed in this study.

Conclusion: According to the results obtained, the molecules used in the study may be considered potential inhibitor candidates for AChE, BChE and α-glycosidase.
- MakaleYalnız künye2024Comparison of histogram-curve fitting-based and global threshold methods for cloud detection
Günen, M. Akif
The goal of this research is fit the best curve to the image histogram using polynomial (i.e., linear, quadratic, cubic, and quartic), Fourier and Gaussian with two different term numbers, and Bezier functions, and then compare their performance with nine automatic state-of-the-art thresholding methods: Shanbhag, Triangle, Huang, Intermode, IsoData, Li's, Maximum entropy, Moment, and Otsu. The visible bands of the Landsat-9, Landsat-8, and Sentinel 2 satellite images are averaged to create an index map, which was used to perform the cloud detection. Since many satellites system only has visible bands, the average index map was used. Three different images which include various cloud types were clipped from each satellite imaging. Thresholding methods were evaluated using statistical tools such as structural similarity index measure (SSIM), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and universal image quality index (UIQI), accuracy, Cohen's kappa, precision, recall, F-Measure, and G-Mean. The histogram-based approaches that performed the best after Li's method were Bezier (96.71% accuracy and 99.83% SSIM), 2nd Gaussian (97.62% precision), Quartic (80.56% kappa, 16.16% PSNR, 82.45% F-Measure, and 89.52%), and 2nd Fourier (81.08% recall and 89.27% G-Mean), according to the average statistics of all images. Additionally, methods other than Shanbhag yielded favorable results (more than 90% accuracy).

Propolis is a sticky substance produced by bees because of the reaction of beeswax, pollen, and bee enzymes. Particularly, their biological activity and chemical content attract attention. Thus, in this study, the total amount of phenolic and flavonoid substances, Fe3+-Fe2+, Cu2+ (cupric ions reducing activity [CUPRAC]), and Fe3+-TPTZ (ferric ions reducing antioxidant power [FRAP]) reducing, and DPPH• and ABTS•+ scavenging assays in vitro antioxidant properties of propolis samples obtained from four different provinces of Türkiye were determined. In addition, the chemical content of propolis samples was quantitatively determined by LC–MS/MS, and the antiglaucoma property was revealed by hCAII enzyme inhibition. Propolis samples from Ordu presented the highest amounts of total phenolic and flavonoid content (492.3 ± 5.8 and 96.1 ± 2.1, respectively) and also highest antioxidant activity (DPPH• and ABTS•+ IC50 [μg/mL]: 8.884 ± 0.84 and 4.589 ± 0.80, respectively; Fe+3, CUPRAC, and FRAP: 1.051 ± 0.012, 1.021 ± 0.008, and 0.957 ± 0.007 μg/mL, respectively). hCAII enzyme inhibition was highest in Muş propolis (IC50 [μg/mL]: 8.6) as determined. By LC–MS/MS, 53 different components were screened and 35 bioactive components were determined. According to the results, propolis was found to be a raw material because it contains high concentrations of acacetin, chrysin, caffeic acid, and quinic acid (123.824, 24.759, 47.779, and 16.32 mg analyte/g extract, respectively).
- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2024Behavioral economics and Monetary Wisdom across 32 cultures: Good apples enjoy a good quality of life in good barrels

Monetary Wisdom asserts that individuals apply their deep-rooted values (ardent monetary aspirations) to frame critical concerns in the immediate-proximal and omnibus-distal contexts and strategically maximize expected utility (achieve financial goals) and ultimate serenity (happiness). This study explores the bright side of Monetary Wisdom and behavioral economics, frames money attitude in the context of pay and life satisfaction, and controls money at the micro and individual level (Z income within each country) and the macro and national and global level (GDP per capita). We theorize: Managers with low love of money motive but high stewardship behavior will have high subjective well-being: pay satisfaction and quality of life. Data collected from 6586 managers in 32 cultures across 6 continents support our theory. Interestingly, GDP per capita is related to life satisfaction, but not to pay satisfaction. Individual income is related to both life and pay satisfaction. Neither GDP nor income is related to the Happiness construct (money makes people happy). For the whole sample, low motives, high stewardship behaviors, and high cognitions identify the latent Monetary Wisdom (MW), which, in turn, leads to higher pay satisfaction than life satisfaction. Results of our formative model challenge the notion that motives and cognitions are consistent in predict outcomes. Our theoretical model across three GDP groups (high, medium, and low GDP levels) offers additional innovative discoveries: In high GDP (rich) entities, “high income” not only reduces aspirations—“Rich, Motivator, and Power,” but also promotes stewardship behavior—“Factors Budget, Give/Donate, and Contribute” and cognitive meaning, “Factor Achievement.” After controlling income, we demonstrate the bright side of Monetary Wisdom: Low love of money motive but high stewardship behavior define Monetary Wisdom, which contributes to higher life satisfaction than pay satisfaction. “Good apples enjoy a good quality of life in good barrels”. This notion adds another explanation to managers’ low magnitude of dishonesty in entities with high Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) (risk aversion for gains in the high probability context). In medium GDP countries, high income is negatively related to Factors Motivator (motive), Budget (behavior), and Power (cognition). Managers enjoy higher life satisfaction than pay satisfaction. However, in low GDP (poor) entities, high income is related to poor Budgeting skills and escalated Happiness. Interestingly, income leads to the notion of high Happiness (cognition) for managers in low GDP countries only. Managers experience equal satisfaction with pay and life. Results of Monetary Wisdom add a new vocabulary to the conversation of monetary aspirations, intelligence, income, GDP, happiness, subjective well-being, good and bad apples, good and bad barrels, corruption, and behavioral ethics.
- MakaleAçık Erişim20241D fuzzy inverse logic method and its use in the design of thick reinforced concrete columns
Ertekin, Özteki̇N
In this study, without using any uniaxial force and bending moment (N-M) interaction diagrams, designs were carried out on thick columns subjected to uniaxial bending and compression by a novel 1 dimensional (1D) Fuzzy Inverse Logic (FIL) method. For this purpose, firstly, a Fuzzy Logic (FL) model was developed and the FIL method was applied to it thereafter. While, the cross-section width (b), the cross-section height (h), the rebar diameter(f), the numbers of reinforcement rows (Rx and Ry) placed into the cross-section in X and Y directions, the characteristic concrete compressive strength(fck) and the axial force ratio Nr=N/ (b.h.(fck/1.5)) were taken as variable parameters, concrete cover thickness (c), rebar strength (fyd) and k1 parameter defined for the concrete pressure block were kept constant in the developed FL model. After designs were performed on 15 columns having different variable variations by the 1D FIL method, moment bearing capacities of the obtained 9737 alternative designs determined conventionally were compared with the desired moment values. The evaluations made on the comparisons show that the FIL method is not only a very effective artificial intelligence method for the design of reinforced concrete thick columns but also a promising method for many other problems such as control, optimization, design, etc.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Rheological properties of pestil enriched wheat, potato and corn flour using simplex lattice mixture design
Yuksel, Ferhat; Yavuz, Busra; Tunç, Merve Tuğçe
In this study, pestil was made using various concentrations of wheat, corn, and potato flours and the ideal flour combination amounts were determined using the simplex lattice mixture design technique. The apparent viscosity, G' (elastic modulus), G'' (viscous modulus), and tan δ (G''/G') analyses were determined. In all samples, it is seen that viscosity reduces while shear rate increases. This type of behaviour is pseudoplastic behaviour. While the highest apparent viscosity was observed in the 13th sample (12 g/100 g potato flour), the lowest was seen in the 11th sample (12 g/100 g wheat flour). In all samples, the elastic modulus (G') was higher than the viscous modulus (G''). The ANOVA table shows that linear data have a significant (p<0.05) effect on apparent viscosity, G', G'', and tan δ values. In general, formulations using potato flour show higher apparent viscosity values. Also, it is observed that the tan δ, G', G'' and apparent viscosity values increase with the addition of potato flour.
