- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Protecting the Privacy of Patients With Impaired Consciousness in Intensive Care: A Qualitative Study
Tuncer, Metin; Özalp, Cemal; Keskin, Azra
Background: Maintaining privacy in intensive care units (ICUs) is challenging because of high workload, invasive procedures, continuous monitoring and shared care environments. Patients with impaired consciousness may be particularly vulnerable because their ability to express privacy preferences, assert personal boundaries and advocate for themselves is limited. Aim: To explore intensive care nurses' experiences of protecting privacy when caring for patients with impaired consciousness. Study Design: A descriptive qualitative study was conducted with 20 intensive care nurses in Türkiye between March and April 2026. Data were collected through semi-structured online interviews and analysed using inductive thematic analysis. The study was reported in accordance with the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research guidelines. Findings: Four themes were identified: the marginalisation of privacy under clinical priorities; structural and process-related constraints on privacy in intensive care; loss of subjectivity and the mechanisation of care in patients with impaired consciousness; and ethical and psychosocial implications of privacy violations. Conclusions: Privacy in intensive care is shaped not only by individual ethical awareness but also by workload, environmental conditions, care routines and communication practices. Patients with impaired consciousness have the same rights to privacy and dignity as other patients; however, their reduced ability to express preferences, assert personal boundaries and advocate for themselves may make privacy violations less visible and increase their dependence on nurses for protection. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Protecting the privacy of patients with impaired consciousness in ICUs requires structured care routines, standardised bedside communication, minimisation of unnecessary exposure during procedures and targeted ethical awareness training to support dignity in everyday practice.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1The past scene of hospitality ethics: A citation analysis perspective
Polat, Eray; Köseoglu, Mehmet Ali
The literature on ethics research in hospitality has significantly expanded in recent years. The objective of this study is to present a comprehensive overview of ethical research in the field of hospitality literature. This will facilitate insight into future developments by examining the past. A two-step approach is employed, comprising citation analysis, a bibliometric analysis technique, and a systematic review. The former is used to identify themes, which are then discussed in the latter. The citation analysis revealed five main themes of the domain: environmental concerns, organisational citizenship behaviour, reputation management and ethical leadership. Environmental concerns were examined from two perspectives: the viewpoint of hotels and the environmental behaviours of tourists and consumers. Subsequently, a systematic review was conducted using the TCM framework (theory/context/methodology) with the objective of identifying the most prominent theories, contexts, and methodological issues associated with each theme. The issue has predominantly been discussed using quantitative analysis and social-based theories. Research has been mainly conducted in the US and the EU. Environmental ethics is likely to remain a significant area of concern in the future. This study offers a perspective that can aid researchers in developing future studies on ethics and help practitioners enhance the ethical climate of the industry.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Assessment of gamma-ray attenuation properties in advanced ceramics incorporating colemanite, pyrophyllite, and plastic clay
Uysal, Turan; Kaya, Selim
This study investigates the gamma-ray and neutron shielding performance of advanced ceramic composites containing colemanite, pyrophyllite, and plastic clay as environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional lead-based shielding materials. Gamma-ray attenuation properties were evaluated over the energy range of 59.54–2000 keV using theoretical calculations from WinXCOM and Monte Carlo simulations performed with the EGS4 code. Excellent agreement between the two methods confirmed the reliability of the simulation results. The mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ) decreased with increasing photon energy due to the transition from photoelectric absorption to Compton scattering and pair production mechanisms. Correspondingly, the half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) increased, while radiation protection efficiency (RPE) decreased with photon energy. The effective atomic number (Zeff) exhibited an energy-dependent decline, reflecting changes in dominant photon–matter interaction processes. Neutron shielding performance improved with increasing colemanite content owing to the presence of boron-rich phases, and Sample-5 exhibited the highest fast neutron removal cross-section (ΣR = 0.11062 cm−1). The same sample also showed the highest gamma-ray kerma coefficients, indicating enhanced energy absorption capability. Overall, the results demonstrate that colemanite-enriched ceramic composites provide effective combined gamma-ray and neutron shielding and represent promising, sustainable, and non-toxic alternatives for radiation protection applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Match success in football: insights from raw and possession-normalized key performance indicators in the Turkish professional league
Sever, Ozan; Öncü, Çağdaş; Öztaşyonar, Yunus; Aksoy, Ömer; Bayrakdaroğlu, Serdar
Background: Match-performance indicators are widely used to explain success in football; however, traditional analyses based solely on absolute key performance indicators (KPIs) may overlook contextual factors such as ball possession and phase of play. This study aimed to examine match-performance indicators associated with winning in Turkish professional football using two complementary approaches: a raw KPI model based on absolute match actions and a possession- and phase-of-play–normalized KPI model accounting for contextual opportunity. Methodology: Match data were obtained from a validated event-based database covering six consecutive seasons, yielding 2,728 team observations from 1,364 win–loss matches. Descriptive comparisons between winning and losing teams were conducted, followed by multivariate binary logistic regression analyses to identify performance indicators independently associated with match success under both modeling approaches. Results: At the descriptive level, winning teams demonstrated higher values for shots, shots on target, accurate passes, opponent-half accurate passes, accurate crosses (%), and opponent-half accurate passes (%), whereas total possession and total passes did not differ significantly between groups. In terms of disciplinary indicators, losing teams received significantly more yellow and red cards, whereas fouls committed were significantly higher in winning teams (p = 0.014). However, the normalized indicator (fouls committed per out-of-possession) did not differ significantly between groups. In the raw KPI model, positive predictors of match success included shots on target (OR = 1.58), accurate crosses (OR = 1.10), opponent-half accurate passes (OR = 1.01), and fouls committed (OR = 1.04). Negative predictors were total crosses (OR = 0.92), yellow cards (OR = 0.89), and red cards (OR = 0.49). In the possession-normalized model, significant positive predictors were shots on target per possession, accurate crosses per possession, and fouls committed per out-of-possession. Significant negative predictors included crosses per possession, accurate crosses (%), yellow cards per out-of-possession, and red cards per out-of-possession. Conclusions: The findings indicate that combining absolute performance indicators with context-sensitive normalized metrics may provide a more comprehensive perspective on match success in football. Offensive efficiency and disciplinary control emerged as key correlates of winning, particularly when evaluated relative to possession and phase-of-play contexts. These findings suggest the potential value of integrating contextualized performance analysis into match evaluation and performance analysis frameworks.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2Computational prioritization of multi-target inhibitors: explainable QSAR and docking-based discovery of dual AChE/BACE1 chemotypes
Bozkır, İsa; İbişoğlu, Merve Seda; Kayıkçıoğlu Bozkır, İlknur; Güler, Halil İbrahim
The discovery of dual acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and β-secretase (BACE1) inhibitors remains a promising strategy against multifactorial Alzheimer’s disease. Here, rigorously curated ChEMBL-derived data were used to develop explainable QSAR (Quantitative structure–activity relationship) models for dual-inhibition prioritization. Molecules were standardized, near-duplicates were removed using a Tanimoto similarity threshold (≥ 0.80), and physicochemical outliers were filtered prior to modeling. Multiple classifiers (including Light Gradient-Boosting Machine, eXtreme Gradient Boosting, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine, k-Nearest Neighbors and Gradient Boosting Decision Trees) and fingerprints (e.g., RDKit fingerprints, Extended Connectivity Fingerprint) were benchmarked under scaffold-based nested cross-validation to prevent data leakage. Class imbalance was handled with SMOTETomek applied strictly within training folds. Model selection relied on F-Score, Area Under the Precision–Recall Curve, Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC), and Recall, and performance was accompanied by bootstrap confidence intervals, calibration curves, and Y-randomization controls. In classification, the top model (GBDT + ECFP6) achieved strong generalization (Recall ≈ 1.00, PR-AUC ≈ 0.84, MCC ≈ 0.81, F1 Score ≈ 0.84). Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP) analysis highlighted aromatic and hydrogen-bonding substructures as key positive contributors. Prospective candidates (e.g., CHEMBL5082250, CHEMBL1651126, CHEMBL1651127) were evaluated by active-site-focused docking against AChE (PDB: 4EY7) and BACE1 (PDB: 2G94) with essential waters retained; docking scores (ΔG, kcal·mol⁻1) were used for relative ranking of the ligands. SwissADME/pkCSM profiling suggested CNS-relevant properties (e.g., MPO, logBB, P-gp liability) and acceptable oral drug-likeness. Collectively, the workflow provides a reproducible and transparent pipeline for prioritizing dual AChE/BACE1 chemotypes and nominates testable scaffolds for experimental validation.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Process Intensification Sonocatalytic Degradation of Malachite Green Wastewater over Hydrothermally Engineered M-ZLT@Co3O4 Nanocatalyst: Structure–Activity Relationships, Radical-Mediated Mechanism and Degradation Pathways
Kıranşan, Murat
This study reports the sonocatalytic degradation of malachite green (MG) in media using synthesized Co3O4 nanoparticles and a CTAB-modified zeolite supported Co3O4 hybrid nanocatalyst (M-ZLT@Co3O4). The catalysts were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDX, TEM, XRF, N2 adsorption–desorption, BET, and BJH analyses, verifying crystalline Co3O4 formation, successful immobilization on the modified zeolite support, porous architecture, morphology and elemental distribution. Under optimized conditions of 1 g L−1 catalyst dosage, 20 mg L−1 MG concentration, natural pH, and 300 W L−1 ultrasonic power, M-ZLT@Co3O4 achieved 99.31% ± 0.45% degradation within 120 min. Decreasing the MG concentration to 5 mg L−1 increased the efficiency to 99.96% ± 0.64%, confirming high activity at low pollutant loading. The degradation followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with kapp values of 0.0042–0.0595 min−1 depending on catalyst dosage, 0.0046–0.0667 min−1 for initial MG concentration, and 0.0117–0.0620 min−1 under pH conditions. Water matrix inhibition followed distilled water (99.31%) > tap water (96.08%) > river water (88.84%) > lake water (86.90%), whereas higher ultrasonic power increased degradation from 91.98% at 200 W L−1 to 99.90% at 500 W L−1. Dye degradation followed MG (99.31%) > CR (95.78%) > BY2 (92.15%) > MV (90.24%) > AO7 (85.62%) > RB19 (82.49%). Comparative tests demonstrated performance for US/M-ZLT@Co3O4 (99.31%) compared with US/Co3O4 nanoparticles (78.48%), US/ZLT (72.86%), and US/MG alone (35.71%). The best activity was obtained at 0.8–2 g L−1 catalyst dosage and 5–20 mg L−1 MG concentration, while reusability tests showed a decrease from 99.31% to 78.82% after six cycles, indicating promising stability.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ1Mineralogical and geochemical controls on Co-V-Pt-Ni enrichment in manganese mineralization: evidence from the Dilli deposit, Eastern Türkiye
Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Çimen, Okay; Aktağ, Alican; Keskin, Serdar
The growing demand for critical minerals driven by the global energy transition and advanced technologies highlights the importance of unconventional metal reservoirs. This study investigates the Ni-, Co-, V-, and Pt-enriched Dilli manganese deposit (Kemaliye-Erzincan, Eastern Türkiye) to constrain the mineralogical, geochemical, and genetic controls on critical metal enrichment in Mn oxide mineralization. An integrated approach combining field observations, petrography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), whole-rock geochemistry, mineral chemistry, and stable C-O isotope analysis was applied to better understand the potential origin of critical mineral enrichments. The mineralization is dominated by Mn4+-bearing oxides, principally pyrolusite and hollandite, accompanied by minor rhodochrosite. High MnO (39-64 wt%) and very low Al2O3 and Fe2O3 contents indicate chemical precipitation with negligible detrital input. Discrimination diagrams and trace-element systematics consistently support a structurally controlled hydrothermal origin. Chondrite-normalized REE patterns display low total REE and very low Nd contents comparable to typical hydrothermal deposits, whereas neutral to slightly positive Ce anomalies and non-chondritic Y/Ho ratios suggest limited oxidative interaction with surface-derived fluids rather than primary marine hydrogenetic growth. Stable C–O isotope compositions of co-genetic calcite are inconsistent with a purely marine depositional environment and indicate precipitation from low-to moderate-temperature hydrothermal fluids. Mineral chemistry reveals strong phase-specific partitioning: hollandite preferentially incorporates V and Ba, whereas pyrolusite is enriched in Ni. Cobalt occurs in both phases, whereas Pt may also be present in both Mn oxide phases, suggesting that trace-element distribution is influenced by both crystallochemical and physicochemical controls. The enrichment of Ni, Co, and Pt is most plausibly linked to hydrothermal fluid circulation through ultramafic units, which likely acted as the primary metal source prior to precipitation. The Dilli deposit thus represents a structurally controlled hydrothermal Mn system enriched in critical metals, emphasizing the exploration relevance of Mn oxide mineral chemistry in identifying alternative sources of critical metals in Türkiye.

Kömürcüoğlu, Ömer Faruk; Kömürcüoğlu, Elif Duygu; Hayaloğlu, Pınar
Climate change is a global risk reshaping tourism through destination attractiveness, service continuity, and travel risk perception. Yet tourism research has largely focused on traditional determinants such as income, price competition, and global integration, while multidimensional evidence on climate impacts remains limited. This study examines the link between climate change and tourism inbound expenditure in 12 leading tourism economies over 2004–2019. Climate change is measured using a PCA-based index combining per capita CO2 emissions with temperature and precipitation volatility. This approach captures both average climate conditions and fluctuations in the climate regime. MMQR is employed to account for heterogeneous effects, with economic size, exchange rate, and globalization included as controls. Results show that increases in the climate change index significantly reduce tourism inbound expenditure. Robustness is confirmed by PCSE and FGLS estimators, while causal linkages are assessed using the HPJ test. By showing that multidimensional climate pressure constrains the expenditure performance of major tourism economies, the study extends the application of destination resilience theory to a macroeconomic setting. It also highlights the need to integrate climate adaptation, resilient infrastructure, and ecosystem protection into sustainable tourism planning.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A novel decision-making approach based on regret theory under bipolar Z-number information
Altun, Fatma; Köseoğlu, Ali; Şahin, Rıdvan
This study introduces a new set theory called bipolar fuzzy Z-number set that makes it possible to express an information both bipolar from positive and negative perspectives, and with the reliability of it. Then, besides basic set-theoretical operations and the score function, a new distance measure is also presented. Furthermore, a decision method integrating with regret theory is proposed. Additionally, to compute the weights of criteria under bipolar Z-number information, a method in which objective and subjective criterion weights are considered simultaneously is introduced by combining the weights found by SWARA and MEREC. Also, a model with standard deviation is developed to obtain decision maker’s weights. Finally, the problem of selection of paper raw material is handled to demonstrate stability and advantage of the proposed method.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2Fertility, family structure, and female labor force participation: evidence from Southern Europe and Türkiye
Beken, Hikmet Gülçin; Kirer Silva Lecuna, Hale
This study investigates how fertility, family structures, and institutional environments shape women’s labor force participation in Southern Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal) and Türkiye. Using balanced panel data from 2015 to 2022 and fixed effects models with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors, the analysis identifies a negative relationship between fertility and female employment, though only at marginal levels of statistical significance. Robustness checks using Ridge regression and principal component analysis confirm this finding across alternative specifications. Significant country-level fixed effects reveal considerable heterogeneity, with Portugal and Spain exhibiting higher baseline participation rates and Türkiye recording notably lower values. While the empirical model does not directly measure institutional support, childcare availability, or cultural norms, the comparative literature suggests that cross-country differences in these dimensions likely contribute to the observed patterns. The findings point to the potential importance of integrated policy approaches, including affordable childcare and flexible work arrangements, in supporting women’s employment alongside fertility.

Koçak, Tevfik; Kocyigit, Emine; Demirel Ozbek, Yagmur; Celik, İsa
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between weight self-stigma, weight bias internalization, eating attitudes, and body appreciation in young adults, and to ascertain the distinct impact of these variables on body appreciation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out including young adults aged 19 to 35 years, comprising 69.6% females and 30.4% males. Participants completed a questionnaire evaluating weight self-stigma, internalization of weight bias, eating attitudes, and body appreciation. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used to assess the additional impacts of weight-related stigma and eating attitudes on body appreciation, while adjusting for demographic and anthropometric factors. Results: Weight self-stigma, particularly the internalization of weight bias, showed a significant negative association with body appreciation. Weight self-stigma and its subdimensions (self-devaluation and fear of enacted stigma) had substantial negative correlations with body appreciation. These correlations encompassed the subdimensions of body appreciation, specifically general body appreciation and body image investment. While eating attitudes did not show a significant correlation with body appreciation at the bivariate level, they became a significant predictor in the hierarchical regression model, suggesting a conditional (suppression) effect after accounting for weight-related stigma and BMI. Conclusion: The findings emphasize the important function of weight-related stigma in diminishing body appreciation among young adults and stress the necessity of examining eating attitudes in conjunction with stigma-related factors. Interventions designed to enhance positive body image should focus on both internalized weight stigma and maladaptive eating-related attitudes.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ2A Non-Newtonian Extension of Laplace–Sumudu–Elzaki Transforms
Yalcin, Numan
Classical Laplace-, Sumudu-, and Elzaki-type transforms are formulated within additive analytical frameworks and do not naturally accommodate multiplicative scaling structures arising in non-Newtonian calculus. Motivated by this limitation, this study introduces a non-Newtonian Laplace–Sumudu–Elzaki transform (NNLSET) based on logarithmic scaling mechanisms, multiplicative measures, and power-type kernels. The proposed framework is constructed by replacing the classical measure dt with the multiplicative measure (Formula presented.) and the linear scaling structure (Formula presented.) with the nonlinear scaling structure (Formula presented.). Using the logarithmic transformation (Formula presented.), a canonical kernel representation of the form (Formula presented.) is derived, establishing a correspondence between multiplicative power-type kernels and weighted exponential structures in the logarithmic domain. Within an admissible weighted function framework, several analytical properties of the transform are established, including existence, boundedness, stability, uniqueness, restricted recoverability, and a logarithmic derivative representation associated with expressions of the form (Formula presented.). A comparative analysis with the classical Laplace–Sumudu–Elzaki framework, together with illustrative differential-equation examples, a representative nonlinear MEMS oscillator, and a numerical computation, is presented. The obtained results demonstrate that the NNLSET provides a mathematically consistent framework for the analysis of multiplicative structures, logarithmic scaling phenomena, and logarithmically structured differential equations. Its applicability is further illustrated through the analysis of a representative nonlinear MEMS oscillator.

Çınar, Öznur; Cengiz, Ekrem
This study aimed to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the English version of the Personalized Psychological Flexibility Index into Turkish (T-PPFI). It was conducted among 604 disaster search and rescue volunteers who participated in the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes in Türkiye. Exploratory factor analysis supported a three-factor, 15-item structure, and confirmatory factor analysis indicated good fit for the three-factor model. Convergent and divergent validity were supported by a positive correlation with the Comprehensive Assessment of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Processes (CompACT) and negative correlations with the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II) and the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scales-21 (DASS-21). The T-PPFI showed acceptable internal consistency (total score α= .727; ω= .712) and high test-retest reliability over 14 days (r= .962). Gender measurement invariance analyses supported comparability of T-PPFI scores across men and women. Hierarchical regression analyses provided evidence for the incremental validity of the T-PPFI beyond AAQ-II and CompACT in predicting DASS-21 outcomes, and higher-order EFA supported construct-level discriminant validity. The findings suggest that the 15-item T-PPFI is a reliable and valid measure of psychological flexibility in Turkish disaster search and rescue volunteers. All rights reserved.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Citizen-Science Data Reveal Global Diversity Patterns in the Gecko Genus Hemidactylus
Kurnaz, Muammer; Berber, Ahmet Ali; Akbulut, Cansu
Understanding how species richness is distributed across space is a central goal of macroecology and biogeography. The gecko genus Hemidactylus ranks among the most speciose and broadly distributed of all squamate genera, with species spanning tropical and subtropical environments on most continents. Yet the large-scale structure of its diversity has rarely been examined at a global scale. Here we assembled georeferenced occurrence data for the genus from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF Access data is 14 March 2026) and, following cleaning and quality control, retained 143,858 records covering 157 currently recognized species (approximately 79% of the genus) to characterize broad-scale biodiversity patterns. Our analyses addressed the latitudinal diversity gradient, the distribution of species range sizes, continental richness, spatial clustering of diversity, and regional beta diversity. Richness declined steadily from the tropics toward the poles, producing a pronounced latitudinal diversity gradient (Pearson r = −0.71, p < 0.001). A generalized additive model captured a strong non-linear association between latitude and richness (deviance explained = 98.1%), consistent with tropical regions acting as principal centers of diversity. Range-size distributions were markedly right-skewed, with the majority of species restricted to comparatively small areas; however, these estimates co-varied strongly with per-species sampling effort (r = 0.90) and warrant cautious interpretation. We found only a weak, marginally significant association between range size and latitudinal midpoint, offering little support for Rapoport’s rule in the genus. At the continental scale, Hemidactylus diversity was overwhelmingly concentrated in Afro-Asian tropical regions (Asia, 93 species; Africa, 66), whereas Europe and Oceania supported few species (four each). Spatial analyses indicated significant autocorrelation in richness (Moran’s I = 0.56, p < 0.001) and well-defined diversity hotspots in East Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia, and regional beta diversity was high (Jaccard dissimilarity up to 0.97), reflecting pronounced faunal turnover among continents.

Pınarbaşı, Işıl Esra; Demirbağ, Orkun; Örs, Şerife
Mine closures are not merely the end of an economic cycle but complex processes that produce long-term social, environmental, and psychosocial consequences. Despite the growing recognition of the importance of Social Impact Assessment (SIA), studies often underemphasize the closure phase and its social repercussions. This study investigates those social impacts in Gümüşhane, Türkiye, a historically mining-dependent region, through the lens of stakeholder theory and a qualitative fieldwork approach. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 21 participants including mine workers, company representatives, public officials, NGOs, media, and local community members, the study identifies significant transformations in six domains: economy, employment and education, land use, demographics, environment and health, and human rights. Findings reveal that mine closures led to income loss, unemployment, migration, weakening of social cohesion, environmental degradation, and violations of labor and participation rights. The exclusion of local stakeholders from closure planning exacerbated distrust and social fragmentation. Providing a nuanced understanding of the social dynamics surrounding mine closure, study contributes to the growing literature calling for more inclusive, just, and sustainable closure processes, and emphasizes the urgency of incorporating SIA as a mandatory and comprehensive practice including not only the opening but also the closure and post-closure stages of mining.

Berktaş, Serap; İncegül, Yasemin; Çam, Mustafa
To protect phenolics of grape pomace, microencapsulation process was carried out with HI-CAP 100, Capsul TA, maltodextrin and potato starch. Encapsulation efficiencies of microcapsules were determined between 69–97%. TPC, TFC, and TAC values of starch-based microcapsules were in the ranges of 36–74 mg GAE/g, 14–28 mg CE/g, and 0.37–0.84 mg C3GE/g, respectively. Maltodextrin, with a value of 74.04 mg GAE/g, was determined to be the best coating material to retain grape pomace phenolics. Similar results were also seen in TFC (28.40 mg CE/g) and ABTS (128.2 mg TE/g) values. While water solubility values were found between 73–92% in microcapsules, grape pomace had 21.81%. The effects of coating materials on the release and bioaccessibility value of grape pomace phenolics encapsulated with different starch types in vitro digestion of oral, gastric and small intestine were investigated. Potato starch-coated microcapsules displayed the least TPC loss in gastric digestion and higher phenolics release in small intestine digestion. The microcapsule with the highest bioaccessibility in oral, gastric, and small intestine phases was Capsul TA, with values of 121%, 205%, and 120%, respectively. Additionally, potato starch-based microencapsulation of phenolics may provide alternative benefits like the slow and balanced release of phenolics in the digestive tract. Microcapsules with maltodextrin, Capsul TA and HI-CAP as coating material had amorphous structures, while potato starch resulted in crystalline structure in the microcapsules. Grape pomace phenolic starch-based microcapsules can be evaluated in the food and pharmaceutical industry depending on the intended use.

The dance group was given 60 min of sessions three times a week for 12 weeks under the guidance of a dance instructor. Both groups were pre-tested and post-tested using the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QOL) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Results The dance intervention group experienced significant improvements in SS-QOL sub-dimensions (energy activities, personality, social and family roles, thinking, language, mood) as well as MoCA scores compared to the control group which had deteriorated over time ( p < 0.001). Conclusion Dance interventions can significantly improve cognitive function and quality of life among chronic stroke patients. The study was registered on Clinical Trials (NCT06145503).

Background: Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) peel is a phenolic-rich processing by-product, but its valorization commonly relies on conventional solvents. This study examined an integrated approach in which pomegranate peel pyrolysis liquid (PP-PL) was repurposed as the extraction medium for ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of the same biomass. The methodological originality lies specifically in using biomass-derived PP-PL in UAE. Results: PP-PL-assisted extract (PP-E) and an aqueous control extract (AQ-E), prepared from the same peel batch under identical UAE conditions, were compared. The apparent gravimetric recovery of PP-E was 202.5 g kg−1. PP-E showed approximately two-fold higher total phenolic and flavonoid contents than AQ-E. In vitro agar well diffusion screening revealed the largest inhibition zone for PP-E against Staphylococcus aureus at 80 g L−1 (22.65 ± 1.50 mm), whereas AQ-E produced no detectable inhibition zones against the tested strains at the same concentration. PP-E achieved DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and ABTS+ (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical-scavenging values of 92.42 ± 0.25% and 97.00 ± 0.17%, respectively, and showed pronounced total antioxidant capacity and iron(III) ion (Fe3+)- and copper(II) ion (Cu2+)-reducing capacities. Targeted liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) using authentic standards quantified six phenolics, with ellagic acid as the predominant analyte (2015.10 mg kg−1 extract). Conclusion: Integration of pomegranate peel pyrolysis with PP-PL-assisted UAE generated an extract exhibiting in vitro antioxidant properties and antibacterial potential in agar well diffusion screening, providing an alternative route for pomegranate peel valorization. This strategy supports the further development of biomass-derived extraction media for recovering value-added compounds from agro-industrial residues.
