    Çimen, Müberra; Düzgün, Azer Özad

The aim of this study was to identify antimicrobial resistance and virulence factor genes exhibited by multidrug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii, to analyze biofilm formation and to investigate clonal subtypes of isolate. Whole genome sequencing was done by Illumina NovaSeq 6,000 platform and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was performed by Oxford and Pasteur typing schemes. Influence of imipenem and levofloxacin on biofilm formation was investigated in 96-well plates at 3 replicates. The strain was found to carry OXA-23, OXA-51-like, AmpC and TEM-1 beta-lactamases. The sequence of the blaOXA-51-like gene has been identified as a blaOXA-66. According to Pasteur MLST scheme the strain displayed ST2 allelic profile. However, based on Oxford MLST scheme this strain represents the new ST2121, as the gdhB gene has a single allelic mutation namely, the gdhB-227. It was determined that MDR isolate carried bap, basABCDFGHIJ, csuA/BABCDE, bauABCDEF, plcD, pgaABCD, entE, barAB, ompA, abaIR, piT2EAFTE/AUBl, fimADT, cvaC, bfmR, bfmS virulence genes. In our study imipenem induced the highest biofilm formation at a concentration of 32 mg/ml and levofloxacin at a concentration of 16 mg/ml. In conclusion, we detected a new MDR A. baumannii ST2121 clone harboring blaOXA-66 gene that has been reported for the first time in Turkey.

Finding the optimum parameter values of the round robin CPU scheduling algorithm with genetic algorithm; [Döner çekirdek CPU tarifeleme algoritmasinin optimum parametre deǧerlerinin genetik algoritma ile bulunmasi]

    Ökdem, Selçuk; Koşmaz, Betül

With the use of computers in every field, the usage intensity of processors is increasing day by day. In order to cope with this intensity, processors need to be constantly updated and improved. Various scheduling algorithms are being developed every day in order to continuously improve and accelerate the processors and to cope with the processing intensity. The main purpose of the scheduling algorithms is to increase the efficiency of the processor. For this, the processor needs to make a planning between the pending processes. Planning can be done by giving different priorities or using different methods. In order to increase the efficiency of the processor, in this paper, existing algorithms were examined. Round Robin Algorithm was improved using Genetic Algorithm. It is aimed to find the optimum values by selecting the quantum value according to the pending processes and their parameters. When the developed new method compared with the existing standard algorithms, it is observed that the waiting time and the turnaround time were shorter than the other algorithms.

Demirag, Hatice; Kulakaç, Nurşen; Hintistan, Sevilay; Çilingir, Dilek

Objective: This study aims to determine the effects of cachexia, causing major problems in the world and Turkey, on self-care agency and quality of life in cancer patients. Methods: The population of this cross-sectional and relationship-seeking study consisted of cancer patients in Turkey from April 1 to April 20, 2021. Using the snowball sampling method, 174 patients were sampled. 'Patient Information Form,' 'The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer C30 Cancer Quality of Life Scale,' and 'Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale' were used as data collection tools. Results: In the study, 52 patients (29.9%) were found to have cachexia. Function, general well-being, symptom (except insomnia), and self-care agency, which are subdimensions of the quality-of-life scale, were found to be significantly lower in patients with cachexia than patients without cachexia (P < 0.001). It was determined that there was a significant negative correlation between the cachexia status of the patients and the five basic functions in the functional scale (physical, role, emotional, cognitive, and social function), general well-being, and self-care agency, and there was a significant positive correlation between the cachexia status of the patients and the symptom scale (P < 0.001). According to the results of multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that the factor that significantly affected the cachexia status of the patients was their self-care agency (P < 0.001). Conclusions: It was determined that cachexia caused significantly lower self-care agency and quality of life in cancer patients. Furthermore, quality of life was related to self-care agency.

Anatomy of october 30, 2020, samos (Sisam) –kuşadası earthquake (mw 6.92) and its influence on aegean earthquake hazard

Bulut, Fatih; Doğru, Aslı; Yaltirak, Cenk; Yalvaç, Sefa; Elge, Murat

We investigated rupture geometry, size, and slip distribution of October 30, 2020, Samos (Sisam)–Kuşadası earthquake combining seismographs, GPS measurements, and SAR analysis. Right after the earthquake, we measured 13 additional campaign-based GPS sites to intensify the available GPS network consisting of 10 continuous stations. We combined all available seismographs to have the best possible accuracy for mainshock and aftershock hypocenter locations. We compiled all available seismic profiles and integrated them using high-resolution bathymetry to map seismically active faults. The mainshock hypocenter is located at 37.913 ± 0.009 N° and 26.768 ± 0.017 E° and a depth of 12.3 ± 1.7 km. Our fault plane solution shows that the mainshock has almost a pure normal-type mechanism. Based on accurate aftershock locations as well as InSAR results, the mainshock rupture is subsegmented with two north-dipping rupture planes. The rupture probably starts on a low angle plane generating 1.1 m average slip between the depths of 9–14 km. It merges to a steep plane at 9 km depth where it generates 1.2 m average slip extending towards the surface near the shoreline of Samos (Sisam) Island. Total size of the two rupture planes and their average slips determine that the magnitude of the mainshock is (Mw ) 6.92 ± 0.02. The mainshock has substantially increased Coulomb stress on several fault segments near the towns Kuşadası and Söke, which have the potentials to generate strong earthquakes. It also nonnegligibly increased Coulomb stress on several fault segments south of İzmir giving a warning for increased earthquake hazard in this highly inhabited area.

Security system with RFID control using E-KTP and internet of things

    Çetin, Gökhan; Fadali, M. Sami

This paper presents an optimal bandwidth allocation method for a networked control system (NCS) which includes time-driven sensor, event-driven controller and random channels. A hidden markov model (HMM) with a discretized state space is formulated for the random traffic to predict the network states using a suitable data window. Network bandwidth is allocated based on the predicted traffic state subject to bounds on the deterministic traffic that guarantee acceptable NCS performance and do not exceed hardware limitations. Bandwidth allocation uses l1 minimization of unmet bandwidth demand. A stability condition is derived for a variable but bounded sampling period interval. Computer simulation results show the effect of varying the number of discrete states for the HMM and the window width on bandwidth allocation. The results compare favorably with a published approach based on fuzzy logic.

Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus l.) could alleviate negative effects of stocking density in laying hens

    Kaya, H.; Karaalp, M.; Kaynar, Ö.; Tekçe, E.; Aksakal, A.; Bayram, B.

The study was conducted to determine the effects of stocking density (SD, 5 or 7 layers/cage) and tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus L.) diet supplementation at four levels (0, 1.2, 6 and 12 g/kg feed) on performance, certain egg characteristics, serum, liver, egg yolk and small intestine bacteria parameters in laying hens. The experiment was carried out over a period of 8 weeks, with 192 Lohman Brown commercial hybrids at 50-w-age. The results showed that an increased SD reduced feed intake (FI; p<0.01) and egg production (p<0.05), but had no effect on the weight gain, feed conversion ratio, damaged egg ratio, egg weight and egg quality (p>0.05) parameters. The supplementation of tarragon to the diet reduced the FI and damaged egg ratio (p<0.01), and improved egg production and FCR (p<0.01). While an increased SD reduced serum total antioxidants (p<0.05), it elevated corticosterone (CORT) and total oxidant serum (TOS) (p<0.05). Tarragon was found to enhance total immunoglobulin (p<0.05), but to decreased the CORT and TOS of the serum (p<0.05). An increased SD raised the malondialdehyde (MDA) in the serum (p<0.001), liver (p<0.05) and yolk (p<0.001). Tarragon supplementation reduced MDA of the serum (p<0.05), liver (p<0.001) and yolk (p<0.001). E. coli and total Mesophilic Aerobic Bacteria counts in the small intestine were raised (p<0.001) with increased SD. Tarragon decreased (p<0.05) mesophilic aerobic bacteria. It was thus found that, tarragon supplementation can be considered generally effective in improving performance parameters, alleviating stress-induced negativities, reducing lipid peroxidation, regulating the immune system and controlling some intestinal microorganisms.

Global stability of Susceptible Diabetes Complication (SDC) model in discrete time

    Şi̇Şman, Şeyma; Merdan, Mehmet

In this study, the mathematical model (DC) of diabetes disease is discussed. This model divides people into (D) uncomplicated and (C) complex diabetics two. In addition, diabetes is a disease known to be caused by genetic and environmental factors, and this factor is one of the main causes of genetic disorder at birth. Considering these two factors, the diabetes complication (SDC) model, which is sensitive from the diabetes complication (DC) model, is being developed. In this model, the responsive diabetes complication (SDC) model of a nonlinear system of differential equations is transformed into a discrete-time system of equations. The positivity and limitation of Model solutions were examined R0 the basic increment number is calculated. If R0 < 1, it has a global asymptotically stable balance for the situation where there is no genetic disorder at birth, and for R0 < 1, the system has an unstable balance. In addition, random behavior of the discrete model was examined for different probability distributions.

Effect of heating on structure and leaching characteristics of a zinc carbonate ore

    Kumas, Cavit; Obut, Abdullah

In this work, the structural changes occurred in a zinc carbonate (smithsonite) ore sample following heating at temperatures between 523 K and 1173 K were investigated in detail using X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal (TG/DTA) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy analyses. Afterwards, the leaching characteristics of zinc from the ore sample and the heated ore samples in sodium hydroxide solutions were determined. While heating at 523 K did not cause any structural change in the ore sample, heating at 723 K completely converted smithsonite (ZnCO3) in the ore sample to zinc oxide (ZnO), which resulted lower zinc leaching efficiencies of 40.6% and 62.0% for 3 and 4 mol/dm3 NaOH concentrations, respectively, in comparison to zinc leaching efficiencies (67.2% and 70.7%) obtained for the unheated ore sample. On the other hand, due to neoformation of dissolution resistant ZnFe2O4, Ca2ZnSi2O7 and ZmSiO4 phases during heating and formation of CaZm(OHD2H2O phase during leaching, the leaching efficiency of zinc further decreased to 22.2% and 31.3%, respectively, in 3 and 4 mol/dm3 NaOH solutions for the ore sample heated at 1173 K. The formation of zinc-containing dissolution resistant phases by high-temperature heating was observed to be the only reason for the reduction in the zinc leaching efficiency (49.4% at 1173 K) at the highest NaOH concentration (8 mol/dm3) studied. In this work, the comparative precipitation studies were also conducted and crystalline zinc oxides with different morphologies could be precipitated at considerably high efficiencies from the selected pregnant solutions obtained following leaching.

Investigation of corrosion and thermal behavior of PU-PDMS-coated AISI 316L

Taşdemir, Muharrem; Senaslan, Fatih; Çelik, Ayhan

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is widely used from biomedical to industrial applications due to its nontoxic, hydrophobic, and transparent characteristics. PDMS has good thermal and adhesion properties; however, its mechanical properties are comparatively weak. Therefore, PDMS is blended with various polymers to effectively improve its mechanical properties. In this study, polyurethane (PU)-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) blended coatings of different concentrations were applied on the AISI 316L stainless steel surface. Their effects on corrosion and tribocorrosion properties were investigated in Ringer's solutions. The blended polymer coatings were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The thermal properties of samples were examined by TGA and DSC. The surface images and cross-sectional were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Tribocorrosion tests were carried out at open circuit potential (OCP). It was determined that hydrophobicity and thermal stability of polymer coating increased, while corrosion resistance slightly decreased with the increasing PDMS concentration in the polymer blended. The friction coefficient of blends decreased as the PU concentration increased. As a result, it was determined that the polymer-coated samples containing up to 50% PDMS prevented corrosive wear under the OCP wear test in Ringer's solutions.

PREDICTION SULPHURIC ACID AND WATER VAPOUR DEW POINT TEMPERATURES OF FLUE GASES AND COMBUSTION ANALYSIS FOR SOLID FUELS IN TURKEY

    Terhan, Meryem

In the study, the combustion analysis is examined for the solid fuels in Turkey. The principal aim of the analysis is determined the limits and obstacles in the design heat exchanger to avoid the corrosion risk on the heat exchanger surfaces in the latent heat recovery applications from waste flue gas. To do this, in which regions of the heat exchanger the flue gas temperature reached to the sulphuric acid and water vapour dew point temperatures are required to predict. In order to predict the condensing zone, an air preheater for the coal-fired boiler in a heating system is designed using finite difference method. Designed the air preheater is consists of the counter-cross flow, U-shaped stainless steel tube bundle. The tube is discredited 200 cells to one-dimensional during the flow. The heat transfer rates, the flue gas and air inlet and outlet temperatures, surface temperatures of the tube wall, the mole fractions of water and sulphuric acid vapour, the other non-condensing gases in the flue gas are calculated in each discrete cell. According to the results of the study, while the dew point temperature of the water vapour changes over the range 30-40 °C, the acid dew point temperature waves to 125 °C from 140 °C for the coal types mined in Turkey.

Analysis of literature on 3D cadastre

    Döner, Fatih

In this study, it is aimed to analyse the three-dimensional (3D) cadastre literature in terms of legal, institutional, and technical aspects. For this purpose, 441 publications published between 2001 and 2019 were examined. In the literature, which includes publications from 59 different countries the studies mostly focused on technical issues. An international consensus on legal, institutional, and technical aspects of a 3D cadastre solution seems difficult. Since rights, restrictions, and responsibilities with a 3D component are somehow registered administratively, stakeholders from the legal domain are reluctant to 3D cadastre. From a technical point of view, the technology required to use 3D digital data for registration has matured sufficiently in the past twenty years. However, further research on a real 3D cadastre solution, creating a workflow that considers both current legal and technical framework beyond pilot studies, is needed.

A comprehensive spatiotemporal evaluation of the current earthquake activity in different parts of the Frakull-Durrës fault zone, Albania

    Öztürk, Serkan; Ormeni, Rrapo

This study presents a detailed spatiotemporal analysis for the Frakull-Durrës (F-D) fault zone at the beginning of 2020. For this purpose, the most frequently used statistical seismicity parameters such as magnitude completeness, Mc-value, Gutenberg-Richter b-value, recurrence times, annual probabilities and standard normal deviate, Z-value, were mapped. The F-D fault zone was divided into two seismogenic subregions, and Mc-value was taken as 2.5 for both the south and north parts. The b-value was estimated as 0.83 ± 0.06 for the south part and 0.85 ± 0.06 for the north part. b-values for both zones are smaller than 1.0 and these values may be considered to be a larger stress accumulation to build up over time and to be released by the next possible earthquakes. Clear decreasing trends were observed in time variations of b-values before the occurrences of several strong main shocks. Analyses of annual probabilities and recurrence times suggest that the study region has an intermediate/long-term earthquake hazard in comparison to occurrences of strong/destructive earthquakes in the short term. Some anomaly regions of a small b-value and a large Z-value were found along the F-D fault zone at the beginning of 2020: i) among Lushnje-Tirana-Durrës including the middle part of the F-D fault zone, ii) in and around Lezha including the north end of the F-D fault zone. Thus, the combination of regions with the lowest b-value and largest Z-value may supply preliminary results for earthquake hazard, and these regions may be considered to be the most likely regions for future strong/large earthquakes in the F-D fault zone.

A Data-Driven Approach to Control Fugitive Dust in Mine Operations

    Kahraman, Muhammet Mustafa; Erkayaoglu, Mustafa

Particulate matter (PM) is one of the main actors related to air pollution caused by surface mining. Fugitive dust, considered as particulate matter that cannot be collected by conventional measures, is classified by the particle size. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) categorizes PM as coarse and fine particles based on the particle size being less than 10 μm (PM10) and less than 2.5 μm (PM2.5). Basic operations of surface mining such as drilling and blasting, loading, haulage, and processing are processes that can potentially generate fugitive dust. Regulations and legislations enforce the mining industry to use environmental monitoring systems, fugitive dust level measured by PM10 level as part of this. Air quality monitors are positioned at different locations around surface coal mines and track air quality levels during production. This study introduces a data-driven methodology to handle air quality issues related to fugitive dust at surface coal mines. Data is sourced from different mine equipment in real-time and they are integrated with air quality monitoring systems to provide information to support decisions for fugitive dust. The method is implemented and demonstrated in a case study at a large surface coal mine.
