Background/objective Psychological well-being disorders are increasingly prevalent among young people. While physical activity is known to benefit psychological well-being, the mechanisms-particularly the role of physical self-perception and gender in recreational context remain underexplored. Grounded in the Conservation of Resources (COR) Theory, this study investigates the mediating role of physical self-perception in the relationship between recreational physical activity and psychological well-being and examines whether gender moderates this mediation among youth aged 15-24.Methods A descriptive-relational survey design was employed. The sample comprised 468 young adults (58.5% male, 41.5% female; M_age = 20.08) who regularly participated in recreational physical activities. Data were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), the Physical Self-Perception Profile (PSPP), and the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS). Mediation and moderation analyses were conducted using PROCESS macro-Models 4 and 7.Results The direct effect of physical activity on psychological well-being was not significant. However, physical self-perception fully mediated the relationship between physical activity and psychological well-being (indirect effect: beta = 0.219, 95% CI [0.151, 0.290]). Among the sub-dimensions of physical self-perception, body attractiveness had the strongest mediating effect. Moderation analysis revealed that gender did not significantly moderate the mediation pathways (a path: p = 0.156; b path: p = 0.954). The mediation mechanism operated with similar strength in both males and females. Conclusion Recreational physical activity improves psychological well-being entirely through the enhancement of physical self-perception, supporting the COR theory that physical activity acts as a resource investment. This mechanism is universal across genders in recreational settings. Interventions aiming to improve youth psychological well-being should not only promote physical activity but specifically focus on fostering positive physical self-perception and body image in inclusive, non-judgmental environments.

In this study, the excitation functions of the 67Zn(p,n)67Ga, 68Zn(p,2n)67Ga, and 89Y(p,n)89Zr reactions were investigated. Nuclear reaction simulations were performed using the TALYS 1.95 and EMPIRE 3.2 codes, by using Two Component Exciton Model, Geometry Dependent Hybrid Model, Exciton Model, and Hybrid Monte Carlo Simulation. In parallel, a feedforward artificial neural network (ANN) trained with the Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm was employed to predict the same reaction cross-sections using experimental data. Comparative analysis revealed a strong consistency between TALYS and EMPIRE calculations, ANN predictions, and experimental results, with the ANN providing enhanced predictive performance in energy regions where experimental data are sparse or uncertain. Furthermore, activation and yield calculations confirmed the feasibility of producing clinically relevant quantities of 67Ga and 89Zr under realistic irradiation conditions. In conclusion, the use of physics-based nuclear reaction codes with data-driven ANN models has been demonstrated to be useful in medical radionuclide production studies by providing a complementary framework for cross-section estimation.

Background Existing CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc-based scores incompletely capture the prognostic impact of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and of graded renal dysfunction in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). We acknowledge that the score's development in a high-risk, high-comorbidity cohort may produce optimistic performance estimates that require attenuation through external validation. We aimed to develop a novel COPD-augmented R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA (COPD-R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA) score that systematically integrates quantitative renal function and COPD, and to internally assess its discriminative performance for one-year all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Methods In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, 622 consecutive patients undergoing TAVI for severe aortic stenosis (2018-2024) were analyzed. The COPD-R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA score was constructed as a prespecified clinical tool by augmenting the R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA framework with COPD (1 point) and refining renal dysfunction into two graded estimated glomerular filtration rate strata (eGFR 30-59 mL/min/1.73 m & sup2;: 1 point; eGFR < 30: 2 points). Discriminative performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis with bootstrap internal validation (2,000 resamples) and compared with established CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc-based scores. Multivariable logistic regression assessed the independent prognostic value of the score treated as a continuous variable. Results The COPD-R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA score demonstrated encouraging discriminative ability for one-year all-cause mortality (apparent area under the curve [AUC] 0.946, 95% CI 0.926-0.971). As a prespecified tool with fixed component weights, bootstrap internal validation confirmed negligible optimism (mean optimism - 0.00014), with bias-corrected AUC identical to the apparent value. The addition of COPD significantly improved mortality discrimination over the R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA score (Delta AUC + 0.033, p = 0.0001). For one-year MACE, the apparent AUC was 0.806 (95% CI 0.765-0.852); the addition of COPD did not significantly enhance MACE discrimination (Delta AUC + 0.001, p = 0.853). In multivariable analysis, each one-point increase in the COPD-R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA score was independently associated with 3.52-fold higher odds of one-year mortality (95% CI 2.45-5.06, p < 0.001) and 2.02-fold higher odds of MACE (95% CI 1.67-2.46, p < 0.001). The bias-corrected AUC of the full multivariable model was 0.973 (95% CI 0.962-0.984) for mortality and 0.795 (95% CI 0.752-0.841) for MACE. Conclusions The COPD-R(2)CHA(2)DS(2)-VA score demonstrated encouraging discriminative ability for one-year all-cause mortality after TAVI in this single-center development cohort (apparent AUC 0.946). However, this high discriminative performance is likely influenced by the elevated comorbidity burden in our cohort and the single-center design, and should be interpreted as an upper-bound estimate. The addition of COPD provides a statistically significant but clinically modest incremental improvement for mortality (Delta AUC + 0.033, p = 0.0001), with no significant enhancement for MACE (Delta AUC + 0.001, p = 0.853). These findings are preliminary and hypothesis-generating; urgent external validation in diverse, prospective cohorts is essential before any clinical application can be considered. At present, this score should be regarded as a development-phase, hypothesis-generating tool that complements rather than replaces guideline-recommended instruments such as STS-PROM and EuroSCORE II. The score's clinical utility remains unproven.

Pala, Fahrettin; Barut, Abdulkadir; Torusdag, Mustafa; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Henni, Mohamed Djafar
In developing economies, rapid economic growth intensifies environmental pressures, thereby increasing the importance of financial inclusion, energy intensity, and natural resource dependence for environmental sustainability. This situation necessitates a holistic examination of the determinants of environmental degradation in emerging markets, which motivates this study. In this context, the study examines the effects of financial inclusion, energy intensity, and natural resource rents on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in BRICS and MINT countries and empirically tests the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis. Accordingly, annual panel data covering the period 2000-2020 are analysed using a machine learning (ML)-based estimation framework, the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimator, and Panel Quantile Regression (PQR). The findings indicate that natural resource rents increase CO2 emissions in BRICS, whereas they reduce emissions in MINT. Moreover, energy intensity and income per capita are found to increase CO2 emissions across all quantiles in both country groups. The environmental impact of financial inclusion is heterogeneous, reducing CO2 emissions in BRICS countries while increasing emissions in MINT countries. These results underscore the critical importance of explicitly incorporating country-specific heterogeneity into environmental sustainability policy design.

Amino acid leaching has been considered an environmentally friendly alternative for gold recovery; however, the dissolution of mercury (Hg) during the leaching of amalgamation tailings remains a major challenge. This study is a novelty study that focuses on Hg removal by passing the Hg-containing tailings, previously processed by amalgamation, into solution via glycine (NH(2)CH2COOH) leaching. In this regard, a precipitation method using sodium sulfide (Na2S) was developed to remove Hg from solutions obtained after glycine leaching. The effects of precipitation time, pH, Na2S dosage, and temperature were investigated. The effects of pH, precipitation time, and temperature were found to be limited within the investigated ranges. The results showed that Na2S dosage was the most effective parameter in mercury removal. The initial Hg concentration of 12,160 ppb was reduced to 223 ppb at a Na2S:Hg molar ratio of 60, corresponding to approximately 98% removal efficiency under the selected operating conditions. Increasing the Na2S:Hg ratio to 80 resulted in a slightly higher removal efficiency (similar to 99%) with a final Hg concentration of 144 ppb; however, a ratio of 60 was considered optimal in terms of reagent consumption and process efficiency. The outcomes indicate that Hg removal with Na2S is a rapid and effective process under alkaline conditions, while Au remains in solution and Cu and Ag are partially removed, indicating limited selectivity and the need for further optimization. Therefore, this study provides a basis for developing more environmentally friendly processes for amalgamation tailings.

Oguz, Enes Cengiz; Gyasi, Evans Akwasi; Pala, Fahrettin; Pilatin, Abdulmuttalip; Barut, Abdulkadir
The study sheds light on the subtle interactions among financial development, foreign direct investment (FDI), and the quality of regulatory frameworks, with particular reference to their deep influence on renewable energy use and carbon emissions across 22 developed countries from 2002-2021. The results show an interesting tendency: Financial development and FDI will reduce reliance on renewable energy, whereas a significant increase in GDP per capita will increase reliance. Secondly, carbon emissions have a negative association with the adoption of renewable energy and financial development, though both reduce environmental quality; there is a positive relation between real gross domestic product (GDP) and energy depletion in terms of these toxic emissions. The significant role of regulatory quality as a moderator in this process is particularly striking. There is a direct correlation between financial stability and more robust regulation, resulting in reduced financial liquidity available for investing in renewable projects and restricting the free flow of clean FDI. Crucially, the paper argues that when combined with strong regulation, FDI is more likely to contribute to reductions in emissions, while FYGD, nevertheless regulated at a high level of quality, should raise emissions. Winding up, the result indicates that neither financial depth nor institutional quality, in isolation, is sufficient to deliver significant environmental improvement. Thus, it is urgent to adopt sound green finance policies and to formulate focused regulatory systems that integrate financial development and foreign direct investment with a broader sustainability agenda.

Objective To evaluate the predictive role of fetal percentile for placental invasion anomalies in placenta previa cases. Study Design: Retrospective studyPlace & Duration of the Study: Training and Research Hospital, January 2018 and December 2023 Methodology A total of 298 placenta previa cases was divided into two groups: PAS (placenta accreta spectrum)-positive placenta previa (n=98) and PAS-negative placenta previa (n=200). Then PAS-positive placenta previa cases were divided into two subgroups: placenta increta-accreta (n=59) and placenta percreta (n=39). Sociodemographic findings, obstetric features, fetal percentile measurements between 22 and 28 gestational weeks and perioperative characteristics of patients were recorded and compared between groups. Results Fetal percentile was significantly lower in PAS-positive placenta previa cases as compared to PAS-negative placenta previa cases (p<0.001). Moreover, fetal percentile <= 52.5 discriminated PAS-positive placenta previa cases from PAS-negative placenta previa cases with 75.51% sensitivity and 51.5% specificity (p<0.001, AUC=0.654). In multivariate analysis, a fetal percentile of 52.5 and below increased the risk of PAS by approximately 4 times (Hosmer-Lemeshow p=0.101, model p<0.001). No significant difference was detected between placenta percreta and placenta accreta-increta groups in terms of fetal percentile (p=0.224). Conclusion Fetal percentiles calculated between 22 and 28 gestational weeks could discriminate PAS-positive placenta previa cases from PAS-negative placenta previa cases, although it had no role in discriminating placenta percreta from accreta and increta cases. Therefore, the evaluation of fetal percentile in placenta previa cases can be considered as a supportive finding in the prediction of invasion anomaly although it does not determine the depth of invasion.

Neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets are critical components in the transition to a low-carbon energy economy due to their superior magnetic properties. They have significantly higher rare earth element (REE) content (25-35%) compared to natural resources (0.15-2%), making end-of-life NdFeB magnets a valuable secondary REE source. In this study, the selective recovery of REEs from end-of-life NdFeB magnets was investigated using water leaching following chlorination roasting with NH4Cl. A series of experiments was conducted to evaluate the effect of NH4Cl on the NdFeB magnet ratio, roasting temperatures, and roasting duration. Under optimal conditions (300 degrees C, 3 h, NH4Cl at twice the stoichiometric requirement), the roasted products were subjected to water leaching (500 rpm, 90 degrees C, liquid - solid ratio of 20 mL/g, 1 h). resulting in over 95% REE dissolution. Rare earth oxalates were precipitated from the pregnant leach solution with 90% efficiency using 1.5 times the stoichiometric requirement of oxalic acid. Subsequent calcination at 850 degrees C for 2 h yielded rare earth oxides with 99.8% REE purity. Moreover, the dissolution of iron was effectively suppressed through a simple two-stage Fe(OH)3 precipitation step, providing a more economical and selective recovery route. Objective: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is increasingly recognized as an active inflammatory vascular disorder rather than a benign anatomical variant. The pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) is a novel biomarker integrating neutrophil, monocyte, platelet, and lymphocyte counts, providing a comprehensive measure of systemic inflammation. This study aimed to evaluate the association between PIV and CAE and to compare their diagnostic performance with that of conventional inflammatory indices. Method: In this retrospective case-control study, 17,538 patients who underwent elective coronary angiography between 2018 and 2024 were screened. A total of 228 patients with isolated CAE and 296 age-, sex-, and Body Mass Index (BMI)-matched controls with normal coronary arteries were included. Hematologic and biochemical parameters were analyzed, and inflammatory indices were calculated. Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were performed to identify independent predictors and assess diagnostic performance. Results: Patients with CAE had significantly higher PIV levels compared to controls (801.6 [504.4-1301.8] vs. 491.8 [302.4-872.7], P < 0.001). In multivariable logistic regression, log-transformed PIV remained independently associated with CAE (odds ratio [OR]: 1.987, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.057-3.737, P = 0.033), along with hypertension, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and serum creatinine. PIV demonstrated the highest discriminative ability among all inflammatory indices (area under the curve [AUC]: 0.674, 95% CI: 0.623-0.722), and correlated strongly with the Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI) (P = 0.75-0.94). Conclusion: Elevated PIV levels are independently associated with CAE, reflecting the pivotal role of systemic inflammation in its pathogenesis. Given its simplicity and availability, PIV may serve as a practical adjunctive marker for identifying patients at risk of CAE, warranting validation in larger prospective studies.

The goal of this study was to compare the tactics expertise paradigms and game-reading skills of elite football coaches with different geographical and cultural back-grounds, based on empirical data. In total, ten elite football coaches participated in the study. All participants had at least 10 years of coaching experience and had either UEFA Pro or A license. Coaches came from the following football federations: Scandinavian (n = 4) , Baltic (n = 3) , and Turkish (n = 3) In order to gather empirical data regarding the knowledge of coaches about theory and methods in cri-sis situation (tacit knowledge), we used the interview form comprising of 25 ques-tions. The Kruskal-Wallis H test results indicated significant differences between groups (p < 0.05) in all aspects of tacti-cal expertise paradigm examined: strate-gic planning, offensive organization, de-fensive transitions, crisis management, and methodological fidelity. Effect sizes calcu-lated for each aspect proved that the mem-bership of the coaches' group (geographi-cal and cultural school) accounted for sig-nificant percentage of variance in their tac-tical expertise (n(2) = 0.777 - 0.86) The results obtained showed that Scandinavian School of coaching prioritized struc-tural discipline and collective intelligence principles, obtaining the highest ratings in strategic planning (4.43) and method-ological fidelity (4.77). Turkish School demonstrated its advantage in crisis man-agement (4.59); however, Turkish coaches were characterized by the lowest rate in methodological fidelity (2.94). As the re-sult, ability of Turkish coaches in tactical improvisation and intuitive expertise con-flicts with system-oriented approach. De-spite obtaining the best score in defen-sive transitions (4.76), the Baltic School demonstrated its reactivity in regards to offensive organization and strategic plan-ning. To conclude, this study showed that tactical expertise is not only a set of tech-nical knowledge, but also the specific cog-nitive scheme that includes geographic and cultural code elements. It can be concluded that distinctive feature of Scandinavian ra-tionalism and Turkish dynamism provides useful theoretical background for hybrid coach models in contemporary football.

Aim This study aimed to evaluate the independent prognostic value of the contralateral DTI-ALPS index in IDH-wildtype glioblastoma, incorporating tumor morphometry, extent of resection, and sex-stratified analyses within a multivariable framework. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed on 153 IDH-wildtype glioblastoma patients from the publicly available UPENN-GBM dataset. Contralateral DTI-ALPS was calculated using DSI Studio via manual ROI placement; tumor morphometry was derived from expert-annotated segmentation labels using 3D Slicer. Survival analyses included Kaplan-Meier estimation, multivariable Cox regression, time-dependent ROC, restricted cubic spline, and sequential C-index comparison with likelihood-ratio testing. Results The contralateral DTI-ALPS index independently predicted overall survival after adjustment for age, sex, tumor volume, and GTR status (HR = 0.405, 95% CI: 0.227-0.725, p = 0.002). Each one standard deviation increase in DTI-ALPS was associated with a 24.2% reduction in mortality risk. GTR >= 90% (HR = 0.651, p = 0.017) and age (HR = 1.021, p = 0.007) also retained independent significance. DTI-ALPS significantly improved model discrimination beyond age alone (C-index: 0.625 -> 0.653 -> 0.668; likelihood-ratio test p = 0.002). Time-dependent AUC reached 0.741 at 6 months. ALPS-based stratification was more pronounced in the subtotal resection subgroup. Sex-stratified analyses showed numerically stronger associations in females, but formal interaction testing did not confirm effect modification. In an exploratory MGMT subset (n = 57), DTI-ALPS did not retain independent significance after MGMT adjustment. Conclusion The contralateral DTI-ALPS index may provide complementary prognostic information beyond established clinical predictors in IDH-wildtype glioblastoma; however, given the incomplete MGMT methylation data and ongoing methodological debate regarding the biological validity of DTI-ALPS, these findings should be considered exploratory. Prospective validation in cohorts with complete molecular and treatment data is required.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ1Determinants of healthy orthorexia and orthorexia nervosa: the roles of food security, dietary behaviors, and obesogenic environment
Koçak, Tevfik; Arpa Zemzemoglu, Tuba Eda; Türkkan, Tugba; Bülbül, Kenan; Yilmaz, Birsen
Orthorexia has recently gained attention as a two-dimensional construct centered on a shared health orientation. Recent conceptual developments distinguish healthy orthorexia (HeOr), defined as a non-pathological interest in healthy eating, from orthorexia nervosa (OrNe), characterized by rigid and compulsive food control accompanied by psychological and social impairment. This cross-sectional study investigated the associations of HeOr and OrNe with sociodemographic variables, dietary behaviors, and obesogenic environmental factors, and aimed to identify shared and distinct determinants of these tendencies with 1,015 adults aged 18-65 years. Orthorexia tendencies were assessed using the Teruel Orthorexia Scale. Additional measures included the Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviors Scale, Short Screening Questionnaire of Highly Processed Food Consumption, Adult Food Security Survey Module, Food Label Reading Attitude Scale, Food Choice Questionnaire, and the Obesogenic Environment Assessment Scale. In the adjusted regression models, HeOr was positively associated with sustainable and healthy eating behaviors (beta = 0.26), AFSS food-insecurity severity score (beta = 0.11), food label reading attitudes (beta = 0.07), health-related food choice motives (beta = 0.09), natural-ingredient preference (beta = 0.14), weight-control motives (beta = 0.15), ethical food choice motives (beta = 0.10), and obesogenic social determinants and effects (beta = 0.09). Conversely, affordability-related motives (beta = -0.08), emotional appeal (beta = -0.15), familiarity (beta = -0.10), and obesogenic cultural determinants/access to experts (beta = -0.12) were negatively associated with HeOr. For OrNe, positive associations were observed with sustainable and healthy eating behaviors (beta = 0.13), AFSS food-insecurity severity score (beta = 0.17), mood-related food choice motives (beta = 0.13), weight-control motives (beta = 0.26), familiarity (beta = 0.09), ethical food choice motives (beta = 0.18), and obesogenic social determinants and effects (beta = 0.30), whereas health-related food choice motives (beta = -0.12), affordability-related motives (beta = -0.08), and emotional appeal (beta = -0.24) showed negative associations. These findings suggest that orthorectic tendencies are associated with individual health motivations as well as broader behavioral and environmental contexts; however, because of the cross-sectional design, these associations should be interpreted as correlational and hypothesis-generating rather than causal.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Scopus SJRQ2An integrated process for rare earth elements recovery and silica production from Turkish bauxite-related ores
Uysal, Turan; Erüst, Ceren; Erdemoglu, Murat; Sis, Hikmet
The evaluation of bauxite-associated shales as a secondary source of rare earth elements (REEs) is strategically important for securing a sustainable supply of critical raw materials used in advanced technologies. In this study, shale ore associated with bauxite, unsuitable for aluminium production due to its high silica content, was investigated as a potential resource for valuable REEs. The effect of thermal activation on REE recovery was examined, and the potential use of the leach residue as a silica source was assessed. Based on acid leaching results, the optimum calcination temperature was identified as 700 degrees C. Under these conditions, high REE recoveries were achieved: 92.9% La, 89.9% Ce, 89.0% Pr, 88.7% Nd, and 73.0% Sm. After leaching, the residue was enriched in alumina and silica. To improve silica purity and recover remaining REEs and Al, a second-stage leaching process was applied. Akbay, Yunus Emre; Evmes, Adem; Akyüz, Turgut
The subject of this article is to examine and analyze the understanding of propositions held by Ibn Kamm & umacr;na, who lived in the 13th century, from the perspective of the discipline of logic. Ibn Kamm & umacr;na is a profound thinker who left significant works in the fields of philosophy and logic by thoroughly examining the works of figures such as Ibn Maym & umacr;n, Ibn Sin & amacr;, al-Ghaz & amacr;li, Ab & umacr; al-Barak & amacr;t al-Baghd & amacr;di, Fakhr al-Din al-R & amacr;zi, and al-Suhrawardi. The primary aim of the article is to analyze in detail the manner in which Ibn Kamm & umacr;na approaches propositions, drawing upon the works he authored on matters of logic. The scope of the article is confined to al-Jad & imacr;d f & imacr;'l-hikma, Sharh al-us & umacr;l wa'l-jumal, and Sharh at-talw & imacr;h & amacr;t, which are among Ibn Kamm & umacr;na's works containing data on the subject of propositions, and within the context of these works, the definition of the proposition, categorical propositions, conditional propositions, modal propositions, the contradiction and conversion of propositions are comprehensively addressed. The literature review conducted revealed that the philosopher has been examined to a considerably limited extent in our country from the standpoint of logic, and this study is considered to make a significant contribution to remedying the aforementioned deficiency. A qualitative research methodology was adopted in the article, and techniques of analysis and comparison were employed. It is known that Ibn Kamm & umacr;na, unlike authors such as Aristotle, al-F & amacr;r & amacr;bi, and Ibn Sin & amacr;, did not compose an independent work on propositions. For this reason, approximately sixteen works that have survived to the present day were meticulously examined through an individual scanning method, passages related to the subject of propositions within the context of the three identified works were recorded, and the data obtained were systematically classified and analyzed. As a result, it has been demonstrated that Ibn Kamm & umacr;na's treatment of propositions draws substantially from the Peripatetic tradition through Ibn Sin & amacr;. Ibn Kamm & umacr;na shares a common view with Ibn Sin & amacr; on the matter of indefinite propositions and explicitly states that such propositions ought to be understood as particular. Furthermore, he addresses propositions holistically on the subject of modality without making a distinction between simple and composite; and emphasizes that there is no limitation with respect to the number of modal propositions and
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Scopus SJRQ3Semianalytical Solutions of a Caputo-Fabrizio Fractional Epidemic Model via the q-Kushare Homotopy Transform Method
Alkan, Asli; Anaç, Halil
In this study, an enhanced semianalytical framework is developed for solving nonlinear fractional differential equations involving the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional operator. The proposed Caputo-Fabrizio q-Kushare homotopy analysis transform method (CFq-KHATM) combines the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative, Kushare transform, and q-homotopy analysis within a unified operator-consistent framework. Unlike conventional hybrid approaches, the method preserves the nonsingular exponential memory structure of the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative and provides additional convergence-control flexibility through the auxiliary parameter & hbar; and q-deformation parameter n. To demonstrate its applicability, a Caputo-Fabrizio fractional epidemic model with memory-dependent transmission dynamics is investigated. Numerical simulations for different fractional-order values show that memory effects significantly influence epidemic evolution, infection persistence, and environmental viral dynamics. Furthermore, comparisons with existing methods together with absolute and relative error analyses confirm the accuracy, stability, and convergence efficiency of the proposed framework. The obtained results indicate that CFq-KHATM is a flexible and computationally reliable tool for nonlinear fractional epidemic systems and other memory-dependent dynamical models.

Tas, Suleyman K.; Aydin, Abdurrahman; Yetkin, Cem; Albayrak, Akif; Kaygusuz, Mehmet A.
Background: Lenke type 5C scoliosis is treated surgically with long-segment (nonselective) or short-segment (selective) level fusion. For Lenke type 5C scoliosis, no standardized criteria exist for selecting proximal and distal fusion levels. Studies report that short-segment level fusion patients with correct patient selection have a direct effect on the result of a well-balanced spine. Purpose: To compare the midterm and long-term radiologic and clinical outcomes of short-segment (selective) vs long-segment (nonselective) fusion in Lenke type 5C scoliosis. Design: Retrospective cohort study. Patient sample: This retrospective study evaluated patients who underwent posterior instrumentation for Lenke type 5C adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) at our institution between 2005 and 2016. Outcome measure: Physiologic measures: radiological evaluations included coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance assessments as well as shoulder balance parameters on X-ray. Functional measures: clinical evaluations were performed using the SF-36 and SRS-22(r) scores. Methods: Patients with Lenke type 5C scoliosis who underwent selective (group 1) or nonselective (group 2) instrumentation were retrospectively analyzed. Group 1 included 47 patients (42 females and five males) with a mean age of 16.1 +/- 2.4 year (range, 12-22), and group 2 included 58 patients (53 females and five males) with a mean age of 16.3 +/- 3.4 yr (range, 12-24; P > .05). Radiological evaluations included coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance assessments, as well as shoulder balance parameters. Clinical evaluations were performed using SF-36 and SRS-22(r) scores; results were compared between the two groups. Results: Both groups exhibited similar results in terms of coronal, sagittal, and spinopelvic balance as well as shoulder balance in many data after surgery (P > .05). Clinical outcomes, assessed via SF-36 mental health and SRS-22(r) scores, did not show statistically significant differences between groups (P > .05), except fort the physical role difficulty domain of the SF-36, where the selective fusion group (77.1 +/- 31.6) showed significantly better scores than nonselective group (58.2 +/- 36.1). However, the mean surgical time and transfusion requirement were significantly lower in the selective fusion group. Conclusion: When appropriately applied, selective fusion achieves comparable radiologic and clinical outcomes to nonselective fusion, with the added advantages of shorter surgical time and lower transfusion requirements.

Oil protection theory posits that oil enhances microbial survival and heat resistance in low-moisture foods, yet the role of triglyceride composition remains poorly defined. This study investigates how Salmonella enterica Enteritidis PT 30 adapts during desiccation in peanut oil (mixed triglycerides, aw,25 degrees C = 0.30) and two representative components, namely, trilinolein and glyceryl trioleate. The lipid-specific structural and metabolic adaptations were analyzed through confocal microscopy and transcriptomics. S. Enteritidis exhibited the lowest persistence (3.43-log reduction over 180 days) and weakest heat resistance (2.5 h at 80 degrees C to achieve 3.5-log reduction) in peanut oil. The survival of S. Enteritidis in triglycerides could be correlated with its metabolic dormancy via suppression of ribosomal and oxidative phosphorylation pathways. Trilinolein enhanced S. Enteritidis' heat resistance (30 h at 80 degrees C for 3.5-log reduction) and moderate storage mortality (1.64-log reduction at 180 d), driven by stress hyperactivity. Glyceryl trioleate balanced heat tolerance (8 h) with optimal storage survival (1.19-log reduction), mediated by partial metabolic suppression. Peanut oil preserved S. Enteritidis transient motility in water-rich microenvironments, while pure triglycerides formed compact, dehydrated aggregates. Transcriptomics identified divergent strategies. Peanut oil induced dormancy at the expense of stress resilience, whereas homogeneous lipids imposed distinct constraints; that is, trilinolein amplified oxidative stress, and glyceryl trioleate intensified desiccation. These findings refine oil protection theory, demonstrating that lipid heterogeneity-not just low water activity-shapes microbial outcomes. The mixed components of peanut oil buffer stress but limit protective efficacy, while its purified constituents reveal how specific triglycerides modulate survival. This mechanistic understanding advances theoretical models of pathogen persistence in oily matrices and guides targeted strategies to mitigate risks in low-moisture oil-rich food systems.

Tepe, Dilsat; Ulusahin, Mehmet; Kula, Sibel; Yilmaz, Gurdal
Objective: Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a chronic inflammatory breast disease with a heterogeneous clinical presentation and uncertain optimal management. Increasing evidence suggests a role for Corynebacterium species, particularly Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii, in its pathogenesis. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical characteristics, treatment strategies, and outcomes of granulomatous mastitis, with particular emphasis on cases associated with Corynebacterium species and the impact of antibiotic therapy. Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study included female patients with GM treated at a university hospital between January 2018 and January 2023. Patients were grouped according to Corynebacterium isolation. Clinical characteristics, microbiological findings, and treatment modalities-oral steroids, combined antibiotic-steroid therapy, antibiotics with intralesional steroids, and segmental mastectomy-were evaluated. The impact of lipophilic antibiotics (tetracyclines, linezolid, rifampin) combined with steroids was assessed. Recurrence rates and associated factors, including symptom duration, were analyzed. Results: A total of 165 patients were included in the study, of whom 25 tested positive and 140 negative. Corynebacterium spp. were detected in 15.15% of cases, with C. kroppenstedtii identified in 8.48%. Patients with Corynebacterium-associated GM had more extensive abscess formation and required more interventional procedures. Multimodal treatment strategies combining steroids, antibiotics, and surgery resulted in favorable outcomes. Lipophilic antibiotics combined with steroids showed a positive but statistically non-significant effect. Recurrence occurred in 16.4% of patients and was associated with longer symptom duration. Conclusion: Accurate microbiological identification is essential in GM, particularly in C. kroppenstedtii infections, to guide targeted antibiotic therapy and reduce recurrence. Tailored management strategies, including lipophilic antibiotics, may improve outcomes. Further studies are needed to define optimal treatment duration and the role of surgery in refrac-GM.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026An ergogenic approach to enhancing performance in archery: the acute effects of caffeine
Türker, Ustun; Ates, Zeynep Hazal; Görgülü, Mumine; Kiyici, Fatih; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar
Background and Study Aim Ergogenic aids are widely used to enhance exercise performance and training adaptations. Among these, caffeine is recognized for its stimulatory effects on the central nervous system and neuromuscular function. Despite their widespread use, the relative effectiveness of such aids in improving performance in precision-based target sports such as archery remains a matter of practical interest. This study aimed to examine the effects of acute caffeine supplementation on shooting performance in university-level archers. Material and Methods A total of 12 licensed university archers (mean age: 22.92 +/- 2.11 years) participated in this study. A single-group pretest-posttest experimental design was employed. Participants completed two laboratory sessions separated by 72 hours under standardized conditions. In each session, anthropometric and hearing assessments were conducted. This was followed by the ingestion of 200 mg of caffeine. After a 60-minute absorption period, archers performed shooting tests at 18 meters. The protocol included practice trials and 10 sets of scoring shots. Data were analyzed using paired-samples t-tests and repeated-measures ANOVA. These methods accounted for within-subject variability across sets. Statistical significance was set at p < .05. Results Posttest scores were consistently higher than pretest scores across most sets. Statistically significant improvements were observed in Sets 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, and 10 (p < .05). Sets 1, 5, and 7 showed nonsignificant differences. Overall performance increased significantly from 6.61 +/- 1.20 to 8.33 +/- 0.39 (p < .001), with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.90; eta 2 = .50). Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed a significant main effect of condition (p < .001). No significant set or interaction effects were found. This indicates that performance improvements were consistent across shooting sets. Conclusions Acute caffeine supplementation was associated with improved shooting performance in university-level archers. The findings suggest that caffeine may have potential as an ergogenic aid in precision-oriented sports requiring sustained attention and performance consistency. However, the results should be interpreted with caution due to methodological limitations. These include the absence of a control condition and the small sample size. Further randomized placebo-controlled studies are needed to confirm and extend these findings.
