PALANCI, Özgür; KAMAŞAK, Tülay; AYDIN KASAP, Zeliha; EYÜBOĞLU, İlker; DİLBER, Beril; CANSU, Ali
Purpose: We aimed to investigate structural changes in the hippocampus using automated segmentation techniques to evaluate the anatomy and function of the hippocampus in patients with West syndrome (WS). Methods: The study included 48 participants (24 with WS and 24 healthy controls) aged 0‐4 years. Automated segmentation methods were used to measure hippocampal volume and evaluate diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters such as fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD). Bonferroni correction was applied for multiple comparisons, setting the adjusted significance threshold at p < 0.0033. Results: Children with WS exhibited significantly reduced total hippocampal volume and diminished volumes in the CA2–CA3, CA4-dentate gyrus (CA4-DG), and SR-SL-SM regions compared to healthy controls (padj <0.0033). After correction, no significant differences were found in the CA1 and subiculum regions (padj >0.0033). Although initial comparisons between ongoing WS and seizure-controlled WS suggested increased volumes in several hippocampal regions in the seizure-controlled group, these differences did not remain significant after adjustment and must be interpreted with caution. Notably, patients with seizure-controlled WS displayed larger hippocampal volumes, higher FA, and lower MD values, indicating a possible link between seizure activity and structural alterations. Additionally, DTI analysis of the cingulum revealed lower FA and higher MD values in WS patients, suggesting compromised microstructural integrity. Conclusions: These findings emphasize the potential role of hippocampal alterations in the pathophysiology of WS and suggest that DTI parameters may serve as useful measures for monitoring disease progression and treatment response.

Bayrak, Nurten G.; Uzun, Sevda
Background: Child abuse is a universal problem with medical, legal, and psychosocial dimensions that every child is at risk of encountering all over the world. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the experiences of parents regarding the management of the process after sexual abuse of their children using a qualitative approach. Methods: In this qualitative study, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with the parents of 15 children who were exposed to qualified sexual abuse living in a city in Northern Turkey. Criterion sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, was used to reach the sample group. Interviews continued until data saturation was achieved. All interviews were audio recorded and then transcribed. The data of the study were evaluated using thematic analysis. The study was conducted and reported according to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ) checklist. Results: In the analysis of the data, three themes (effects of child sexual abuse on the family, sexual abuse and process management, and attitudes and approaches to the child after sexual abuse), and nine sub-themes (mental, physical, social, reactions, difficulties experienced, coping, cognitive dimension, emotional dimension, behavioral dimension) were identified. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that parents were negatively affected psychologically by the sexual abuse of their children. This study reveals that the concept of family is very important in all aspects of the sexual abuse of children. As a result of the study, it was determined that families were not very effective in process management and some parents blamed themselves for the incident they experienced.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2First evaluation and ecological risk of potentially toxic elements in the formations of Akçakale cave (Gümüşhane-NE-Türkiye)
Saydam Eker, Çiğdem; Külekçi, Gökhan; Uçak, Gül
In this study, the potential toxic element levels (PTEs) and adverse health effects of Akçakale cave formations were evaluated using geochemical parameters such as enrichment factor (EF), geo-accumulation index (Igeo), contamination factor (CF), ecological risk factor (Eri), potential ecological risk index (PERI), and non-carcinogenic hazard index (HI). Water does not pose a pollution risk, as the concentrations of potentially toxic elements in all samples are within the permissible limits for drinking water. According to the calculated geochemical parameters, all the samples were polluted with As, Co, Ni, Cu, V, and Pb. Ni, As, Cu, and Pb show very high ecological risk (PER > 320) in all samples, except Cu and Pb in T2T. The PERI values of the PTEs were more than 600 in all samples, indicating a very high potential ecological risk. The HI > 1 values for Co and As in all samples for both adults and children suggested potential non-carcinogenic health risks from exposure to these elements in the cave environment. The PTEs in the Akçakale cave formation were most likely linked to lithogenic, geogenic (Pb–Zn-Cu mineralization), and anthropogenic (agricultural activities) processes, per the findings of the data analysis using multivariate statistics (PCA and PCC). These data obtained are the first findings regarding the potential toxic element content of Akçakale cave.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1A multi-stage fusion deep learning framework merging local patterns with attention-driven contextual dependencies for cancer detection
Catal Reis, Hatice; Turk, Veysel
Cancer is a severe threat to public health. Early diagnosis of disease is critical, but the lack of experts in this field, the personal assessment process, the clinical workload, and the high level of similarity in disease classes make it difficult. In recent years, deep learning-based artificial intelligence models have shown promise, with the potential to increase diagnosis speed and accuracy. These models attract attention with their automatic learning and adaptation capabilities. In this study, the deep learning-based PADBSRNet model and the PADBSRNet-Vision Transformer (ViT) hybrid method are proposed for the detection of brain tumors and skin and lung cancers. PADBSRNet is a comprehensive deep neural network architecture that integrates separable and traditional convolution layers, multiple attention mechanisms, bidirectional recurrent neural networks, and cross-connections/multi-stage feature fusion strategies. This architecture offers significant advantages in terms of effectively extracting local-global, contextual features and accurately modeling long-term dependencies in image classification tasks. The second proposed approach developed a hybrid method that combines the advantages of the PADBSRNet model and the ViT model. Experimental analysis on medical datasets such as the Figshare Brain Tumor Dataset, IQ-OTH/NCCD Dataset, and Skin Cancer: Malignant vs. Benign Dataset has evaluated the proposed models' performances. According to the experimental results, the PADBSRNet model has shown successful performance with 95.24 %, 99.55 %, and 88.61 % accuracy rates, respectively. The experimental findings show that the proposed deep learning model can effectively learn the complex relationships and hidden patterns of cancer disease, thus producing applicable and effective results in cancer diagnosis.

Paksoy, Zahid; Ozturk Sarikaya, Sevim Beyza; Yumusak, Nihat
Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is a common pathology affecting the ovary. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Tarantula cubensis extract (TCE) on ovarian IR injury. Forty-two female rats were used and randomly divided into 7 groups: Control, Sham, IR, Ischemia+TCE+Reperfusion, TCE+IR, Ischemia+Ethanol+Reperfusion and Ethanol+IR. The control and sham groups did not receive any treatment. All other groups were subjected to 3 h of ischemia + 3 h of reperfusion. A single dose of TCE (0.2 ml Theranekron) was administered subcutaneously either before or after ischemia in the treatment groups. In the last 2 groups, ethanol was applied before or after ischemia. After reperfusion, blood samples were collected and analyzed for biochemical parameters. Additionally, the ovarian tissue was evaluated histopathologically and immunohistochemically. The IR group exhibited more marked hyperemia, hemorrhage, and necrosis. Both treatment groups showed histopathological improvement. Moreover, the recovery rate was greater in the animals given theranekron before ischemia. IR injury caused oxidative stress in the rats. However, Theranekron did not significantly reduce the MDA levels (p > 0.05). On the other hand, SOD levels were significantly increased in the treatment groups (p < 0.01). Compared to the control and sham groups, the IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α levels were very high in the IR group. Conversely, the immunoreactivity of these cytokines was further reduced in the animals given theranekron before ischemia. Our findings suggest that TCE may be beneficial in the treatment of ovarian IR damage, especially when Theranekron is given before ischemia.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Feature Fusion Using Deep Learning Algorithms in Image Classification for Security Purposes by Random Weight Network
Kiran, Mustafa Servet; Seyfi, Gokhan; Yilmaz, Merve; Esme, Engin; Wang, Xizhao
Automated threat detection in X-ray security imagery is a critical yet challenging task, where conventional deep learning models often struggle with low accuracy and overfitting. This study addresses these limitations by introducing a novel framework based on feature fusion. The proposed method extracts features from multiple and diverse deep learning architectures and classifies them using a Random Weight Network (RWN), whose hyperparameters are optimized for maximum performance. The results show substantial improvements at each stage: while the best standalone deep learning model achieved a test accuracy of 83.55%, applying the RWN to a single feature set increased accuracy to 94.82%. Notably, the proposed feature fusion framework achieved a state-of-the-art test accuracy of 97.44%. These findings demonstrate that a modular approach combining multi-model feature fusion with an efficient classifier is a highly effective strategy for improving the accuracy and generalization capability of automated threat detection systems.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2Concentrations, distribution, and source appointment of heavy metal/loids in non-clastic sedimentary rocks: a case study of early jurassic chert, northeastern türkiye
Saydam Eker, Çiğdem; Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Arı, Uğur Volkan
The Current study used geochemical indicators such as the geo-accumulation index (Igeo), the Enrichment Factor (EF), and the contamination factor (CF) to evaluate the regional distributions and accumulations of various heavy metal/loids (HM; Co, Mo, Pb, Zn, Cu, Ni, As, Cd) in early Jurassic cherts in the Gümüşhane (NE Türkiye). Five stratigraphic section measurement (MS) areas (Tedaş, Alemdar, Akçakale, Tekke, and Pirahmet) and one borehole (Eskibağlar well) were selected for sampling. Major and trace element compositions of the selected 25 samples were measured by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Calculated geochemical indexes indicated that Alemdar, Tekke MS, and Eskibağlar well samples were polluted with Pb, Zn, Cu, As, and Cd, Tedaş, Akçakale, and Pirahmet MS samples were polluted with Cd. Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC) and principal component analysis (PCA) suggested that Zn, Pb, and Cu contaminating the Alemdar, Tekke MS, and Eskibağlar well samples were of ore mineralization origin, As was of terrigenous input, and Cd was probably of diatom origin. PCC and PCA showed that the Cd contaminating the Tedaş, Akçakale, and Pirahmet MS samples was probably of diatom origin, and the other metals found at normal levels in the samples were due to terrigenous input. The Early Jurassic period, which was a rift environment in the Gümüşhane region, is thought to have produced the cherts of the Alemdar, Tekke MS, and Eskibağlar well samples in a graben environment, while the cherts of the Tedaş, Akçakale, and Pirahmet MS were deposited in a horst environment. δU values, Ni/Co, and Vi/(V + Ni) ratios indicated that oxic-anoxic conditions were generally prevalent in the depositional environment, but redox conditions did not affect the abundance and distribution of HMs. These findings provide critical information for assessing heavy metal/loid enrichment and contamination potential not only in clastic sedimentary rocks, river sediments, and soils but also in non-clastic sedimentary rocks.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1ChatGPT-4 in Nursing Research: A Methodological Evaluation of Bias Risk in Randomized Controlled Trials
Tuncer, Metin; Tuncer, Gülsüm Zekiye
Background: Conducting bias assessments in systematic reviews is a time-consuming process that involves subjective judgments. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to perform these assessments can potentially save time and enhance consistency. Nevertheless, the efficacy of AI technologies in conducting bias assessments remains inadequately explored. Aim: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of ChatGPT-4o in assessing bias using the revised Cochrane RoB2 tool, focusing on randomized controlled trials in nursing. Methods: ChatGPT-4o was provided with the RoB2 assessment guide in the form of a PDF document and instructed to perform bias assessments for the 80 open-access RCTs included in the study. The results of the bias assessments conducted by ChatGPT-4o for each domain were then compared with those of the meta-analysis authors using Cohen's weighted kappa analysis. Results: Weighted Cohen's kappa values showed better agreement in bias in the measurement of the outcome (D4, 0.22) and bias arising from the randomization process (D1, 0.20), while negative values in bias due to missing outcome data (D3, −0.12) and bias in the selection of the reported result (D5, −0.09) indicated poor agreement. The highest accuracy was observed in D5 (0.81), and the lowest in D1 (0.60). F1 scores were highest in bias due to deviations from intended interventions (D2, 0.74) and lowest in D3 (0.00) and D5 (0.00). Specificity was higher in D5 (0.93) and D3 (0.82), while sensitivity and precision were low in these domains. Conclusions: The agreement between ChatGPT-4o and the meta-analysis studies in the same RCT assessments is generally low. This indicates that ChatGPT-4o requires substantial enhancements before it can be used as a reliable tool for bias risk assessments. Clinical Relevance: The AI–based tools have the potential to expedite bias assessment in systematic reviews. However, this study demonstrates that ChatGPT-4o, in its current form, lacks sufficient consistency, indicating that such tools should be integrated cautiously and used under continuous human oversight, particularly in evidence-based evaluations that inform clinical decision-making.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Application of SnO2@CTAB-modified zeolitic clay nanocatalyst for the efficient sonocatalytic degradation of methylene blue in wastewater: Structural characterization, catalytic activity, and mechanistic insights
Önen, Hakan; Kıranşan, Murat
This study investigates the sonocatalytic degradation of dyes in wastewater using SnO2 nanoparticles and a hybrid SnO2@CTAB-modified zeolitic clay (SnO2@M-ZLT) nanocatalyst. The catalysts were synthesized in solution medium and characterized by XRF, XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analyses, confirming their successful formation and suitable surface properties. The effects of critical parameters including initial dye concentration, catalyst dosage, pH, water matrix, and radical scavengers on the removal of methylene blue (MB) were systematically evaluated. Under optimal conditions (10 g L−1 catalyst, 10 mg L−1 MB, Ultrasonic power: 300 W/L, pH for MB: Natural pH), the SnO2@M-ZLT nanocatalyst achieved 97.40 % ± 1.12 % degradation within 120 min, while 95.05 % ± 1.25 % efficiency was observed at 5 g L−1 catalyst and 5 mg L−1 MB. The sonocatalytic degradation of MB over SnO₂@M-ZLT followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with kapp values ranging from 0.004 to 0.082 mg L−1 min−1 depending on catalyst dosage, 0.012–0.083 mg L−1 min−1 with varying MB concentration, and 0.030–0.055 mg L−1 min−1 across different water matrices. The optimal degradation efficiency was obtained at a catalyst dosage of 2–2.5 g L−1, an initial MB concentration of 5–10 mg L−1, and in distilled water, confirming the strong dependence of the reaction rate on both operational and environmental factors. Reusability tests showed that SnO2@M-ZLT retained high catalytic activity after five cycles. These results highlight the strong potential of SnO2@M-ZLT as an efficient and stable nanocatalyst for sustainable wastewater treatment.

This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial properties and phytochemical composition of pyrolysis liquids obtained from the biowaste of the mealworm Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) adults and larvae. Biowaste was subjected to pyrolysis at 295±5 °C for 7 h under a nitrogen atmosphere using a laboratory-scale system equipped with a dual condensation unit to separate light and heavy fractions. The biowaste pyrolysis liquid (BPL) were purified and analysed for their chemical content using LC–MS/MS, which identified seven key phenolic compounds, with cinnamic acid being the most abundant (358.05 µg/g), followed by salicylic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and naringenin. Notably, the most of flavonoid derivatives were either absent or below detection limits, indicating the extract’s phenolic acid-dominated profile. The antibacterial activity of BPL was assessed against two gram-negative (E. coli ATCC-25922, P. aeruginosa ATCC-27853) and two gram-positive (E. faecalis ATCC-23212, S. aureus ATCC-25923) bacterial strains using the agar well diffusion method. The results demonstrated significant antibacterial effects, particularly against S. aureus (29.5±0.3 mm) and P. aeruginosa (23.5±0.2 mm), followed by E. coli (21.7±0.1 mm). These findings highlight the potential of insect-derived pyrolysis liquids as natural antibacterial agents, driven largely by their phenolic acid content. This study underscores the value of biowaste valorisation for developing bioactive compounds with potential applications in antimicrobial therapies.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3Chemical composition of essential oils and comparative analysis of enzyme inhibitory, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities in essential oils of endemic Gelasia sericea (Aucher ex DC.) Zaika, Sukhor. & N. Kilian
Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltacı, Cemalettin; Akmeşe, Osman; Sefalı, Abdurrahman; Aygül, İmdat; Öz, Mehmet
In this study, essential oil from the aerial parts of Gelasia sericea (Aucher ex DC.) Zaika, Sukhor. & N. Kilian was extracted via hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus. GC-MS/FID analysis determined aldehydes (28.31%) as the dominant group, with eucalyptol (8.71%) as the main constituent. Antioxidant activities were exhibited using DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays, with the essential oil demonstrating relatively higher antioxidant properties. The essential oil also showed higher levels of bioactive components, including total antioxidant capacity (160.26 mg AA eq./100 mL), total phenolic content (21.57 mg GA eq./100 mL), and total flavonoid content (14.85 mg QE eq./100 mL). While G. sericea essential oil demonstrated some antioxidant activity, it was significantly lower compared to the reference standard ascorbic acid (AA). The antimicrobial results showed relatively higher antimicrobial activity compared to most bacterial and fungal strains, as evidenced by lower MIC and MBC values and larger inhibition zones. Nevertheless, chloramphenicol (CH) and nalidixic acid (NA) continually showed superior antimicrobial efficacy, with the lowest MIC and MBC values and the largest inhibition zones. The essential oil also demonstrated potent enzyme inhibitory activity, especially against CA-II, AChE, and BChE, with the lowest IC50 value observed for CA-II, highlighting its potential as a potent enzyme inhibitor. However, the essential oil exhibited comparatively greater inhibition against AChE, BChE and α-amylase but was less effective overall. These findings suggest that the G. sericea essential oil has important antioxidant potential and enzyme inhibitory activity, while the essential oil shows varying efficacy across different enzymes.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Influences of chord pre-stress on CHS X-joints with high-strength-steel at various temperatures
Ozyurt, E.; Wang, Y.C.
This study examines the influence of chord pre-stress on the behaviour and load resistance of Circular Hollow Section (CHS) X-joints with High Strength Steel (HSS) at various temperatures. This investigation uses a total number of seven hundred and four Finite Element simulation results to evaluate the level of accuracy of current Eurocode and CIDECT design guidelines in predicting the high-temperature resistance of these joints. The numerical simulations investigate the effects of changing brace-to-chord diameter (β), chord semi-diameter-to-thickness (γ), and brace-to-chord thickness (τ) ratios, as well as different prestressing levels (np) and temperatures (θ). The γ and τ ratios have a limited effect on the normalised joint strength, but the β ratio, and the prestressing level are highly influential. At ambient temperature, the CIDECT design approach is a more suitable method for calculating the chord pre-stress reduction factors for S355 joints. For HSS X-joints, the constant modification coefficient of 0.80 is inadequate, and this paper has proposed a new modification coefficient as a function of the pre-stress level. At elevated temperatures, the ambient temperature resistance of CHS X-joints can be modified by the reduction factor of the Young's modulus for S355 steel and that of the yield stress for S960 steel.

This study aimed to examine the temporal and spatial variation of drought in the upper Moulouya Basin, Morocco’s arid and semi-arid region. For this purpose, the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was calculated at various time scales (3, 6, 12, and 24 months) using precipitation data collected from eight stations between 1977 and 2019. The data trends were analysed by classical modified Mann-Kendall (MMK) and Innovative Trend Analysis (ITA). Severe drought events were identified in the 1980s, and 1998–2000, while exceptionally wet years were recorded in periods 1996–1997 and 2008–2012. SPI trend analyses revealed a holistic increase on almost all timescales and at all stations. The increase was found to be higher in more extended time scales. Except for a few stations, SPI values in dry, normal, and wet classes of ITA method increased in the second half (1998–2019) compared to the first half (1978–1997). The ITA method detected different trends for different classes at two stations compared to the MMK method. This situation revealed the importance of analysing the trends of different methods in drought studies. These results are essential for water resources management and adaptation to climate change in arid and semi-arid zones.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Slag Substitution Effect on Features of Alkali-Free Accelerator-Reinforced Cemented Paste Backfill
Cavusoglu, Ibrahim
Cemented paste backfill (CPB) improves underground stability by filling mine voids, but the high cost of cement presents economic challenges for miners. While alternative binders and admixtures have been explored, the combined impact of slag substitution and alkali-free (AF) accelerators on CPB performance is not yet fully understood. This study investigates the influences of slag substitution and AF accelerators on the performance of CPB through a comprehensive experimental approach. CPB samples were prepared with slag substitution ratios of 25%, 50%, and 75%, maintaining a fixed AF accelerator content of 0.4%. Various test techniques, including unconfined comprehensive strength (UCS), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermal analysis (TG/DTA), were employed to study their mechanical and microstructural properties. Monitoring tests were also conducted to thoroughly assess the performance of CPB, including suction (self-desiccation), electrical conductivity (EC), and volumetric water content (VWC) tests. The results showed that the PCI50–SL50–0.4AF sample exhibited 2.3 times higher strength than the control sample for 28 days, with this improvement attributed to enhanced pozzolanic reactions contributing to better microstructural compactness. Monitoring tests revealed accelerated hydration kinetics and reduced water content in slag-reinforced CPB, highlighting the significant role of AF accelerator in facilitating rapid setting and improving early-age mechanical strength. Microstructural findings revealed that porosity decreased and C–S–H gel formation increased in the specimen containing slag and AF accelerators, contributing to increased strength and durability. These findings highlight the potential usage of slag and AF accelerators to enhance CPB’s mechanical, microstructural, and hydration properties, offering significant benefits for mining operations by improving backfill performance, while contributing to environmental sustainability through reduced cement consumption and associated CO2 emissions.

Öz, Mehmet; Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltacı, Cemalettin
In this study; aroma components, some biochemical properties (sugar amount (HPLC-DAD), vitamin C amount, water-soluble solids amount) and antioxidant capacities (bioactive component contents and antioxidant capacity amounts) of V. arctostaphylos and V. myrtillus fruits were determined. Methanol extraction was applied to the fruit samples, which were made homogeneous after being shredded. Aroma (volatile) components were determined by HS-SPME/GC-MS (Headspace-Solid Phase Micro Extraction) technique combined with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. Total antioxidant activity (TAC), total phenolic substance amounts (TPC) and total flavonoid substance amounts (TFC), which are among the bioactive component contents, were examined. As antioxidant capacity, the amount of free radical scavenging (DPPH and ABTS) activity and the amount of ferric (III) ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) capacity were determined. As a result of the analyses, 27 and 33 aroma compounds were determined in V. arctostaphylos and V. myrtillus fruits, respectively. The main components found among the aroma compounds are α-terpineol (22.67%), (E)-2-hexenal (17.63%), and linalool (9.78%). in the V. arctostaphylos fruit. V. myrtillus fruits were determined to contain menthol (22.93%), α-eudesmol (11.50%), and germacrene D (8.33%). In addition, the chemical classes of aroma compounds identified were monoterpenoid, aldehyde, hydrocarbon, alcohol, ester, sesquiterpene, and sesquiterpenoid classes in V. arctostaphylos and V. myrtillus fruits. Moreover, the total sugar amount in V. arctostaphylos fruits was found to be 11.30%, and the total sugar amount in V. myrtillus fruits was 13.94%. The amount of vitamin C in V. arctostaphylos fruits was detected as 33.26 mg/kg, and the amount of vitamin C in V. myrtillus fruits was contained as 44.17 mg/kg. The amount of water-soluble solids in V. arctostaphylos and V. myrtillus fruits was determined to be 12.13% and 13.43%, respectively. The amounts of total sugar, vitamin C and water-soluble solids in V. myrtillus fruits were higher than the amounts in V. arctostaphylos fruits. According to the antioxidant results, the TAC, TPC, DPPH, ABTS and FRAP values of the methanol extract obtained from V. myrtillus fruits, excluding TFC, demonstrated higher antioxidant features than the values attained from V. arctostaphylos fruits.

Sukuroglu, Suleyman
This study was carried out in order to increase the usage areas of Al 7075 alloy, which is preferred as an engineering material in the aerospace industry, defense industry and automotive industry, in high temperature applications, wear resistance in different environments and corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. For this purpose, the focus was on the growth of Al2O3 and Al2O3:TiB2 doped composite coatings on the surface of Al 7075 aluminum alloy by the MAO method, and the structural, morphological, corrosion, adhesion and wear properties of the grown coatings in three different environments (atmospheric conditions, brine containing 3.5 % NaCl and oil). Firstly, Al2O3 coatings were grown in electrolytic solution number 1. Secandly, Al2O3:TiB2 doped composite coatings were grown in electrolytic solution number 2 and the phase structure, microstructure and chemical composition of the grown coatings were determined by X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, respectively. The abrasion behavior of the coatings in three different environments was determined by a pin-on disc abrasion tester, adhesion resistances were determined by a Scratch Test, and corrosion resistance was determined by a potentiodynamic polarization tester. It was observed that dense and uniform coatings were grown on the surfaces of TiB2 nanoparticle-added (Al2O3:TiB2) coatings, porosity and pore sizes on the surfaces of the coatings were reduced and microcracks were reduced. In addition, it was determined that the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of composite coatings (Al2O3:TiB2) grown with nanoparticle addition increased, and coatings with high bond strength with the substrate were grown.

With the proliferation of devices on the Internet of Things (IoT), ensuring their security has become paramount. Device identification (DI), which distinguishes IoT devices based on their traffic patterns, plays a crucial role in both differentiating devices and identifying vulnerable ones, closing a serious security gap. However, existing approaches to DI that build machine learning models often overlook the challenge of model generalizability across diverse network environments. In this study, we propose a novel framework to address this limitation and to evaluate the generalizability of DI models across data sets collected within different network environments. Our approach involves a two-step process: first, we develop a feature and model selection method that is more robust to generalization issues by using a genetic algorithm with external feedback and datasets from distinct environments to refine the selections. Second, the resulting DI models are then tested on further independent datasets to robustly assess their generalizability. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method by empirically comparing it to alternatives, highlighting how fundamental limitations of commonly employed techniques such as sliding window and flow statistics limit their generalizability. Moreover, we show that statistical methods, widely used in the literature, are unreliable for device identification due to their dependence on network-specific characteristics rather than device-intrinsic properties, challenging the validity of a significant portion of existing research. Our findings advance research in IoT security and device identification, offering insight into improving model effectiveness and mitigating risks in IoT networks.
