Simultaneous quadrotor autopilot system and collective morphing system design

    Kose, Oguz; Oktay, Tugrul

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to design a quadrotor with collective morphing using the simultaneous perturbation stochastic approximation (SPSA) optimization algorithm. Design/methodology/approach: Quadrotor design is made by using Solidworks drawing program and some mathematical performance relations. Modelling and simulation are performed in Matlab/Simulink program by using the state space model approaches with the parameters mostly taken from Solidworks. Proportional integral derivative (PID) approach is used as control technique. Morphing amount and the best PID coefficients are determined by using SPSA algorithm. Findings: By using SPSA algorithm, the amount of morphing and the best PID coefficients are determined, and the quadrotor longitudinal and lateral flights are made most stable via morphing. Research limitations/implications: It takes quite a long time to model the quadrotor in Solidworks and Matlab/Simulink with the state space model and using the SPSA algorithm. However, this situation is overcome with the proposed model. Practical implications: Optimization with SPSA is very useful in determining the amount of morphing and PID coefficients for quadrotors. Social implications: SPSA optimization method is useful in terms of cost, time and practicality. Originality/value: It is released to improve performance with morphing, to determine morphing rate with SPSA algorithm and to determine PID coefficients accordingly.

Nature of clays in late cretaceous dacitic rocks in the eastern sakarya zone (Ne turkey): A geochemical and isotopic approach

Sipahi, Ferkan; Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Sadiklar, Münür Burhan

Late Cretaceous felsic rocks are common in the eastern Pontides (NE Turkey). These rocks developed as an island arc from the Jurassic to the Miocene; they also host numerous volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits. The Late Cretaceous dacites that outcrop around Zigana Mountain (Gümüşhane, NE Turkey) were exposed to intensive hydrothermal alteration. Widespread hydrothermal alteration of Late Cretaceous dacite in Zigana Mountain has led to the formation of well-developed clay minerals. Their main alteration products are sericite, chlorite, and carbonates (ankerite and calcite). The clay minerals identified by X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis include illite, chlorite, small amounts of kaolinite, and smectite. The polytype of illite is 2M1. Illites formed as a result of hydrothermal alteration of feldspars; they are also Fe-and Mg-poor. Chlorite is characterized by decreasing Fe/(Fe+ Mg) ratio with increasing alteration grade and has a trioctahedral structure. Chlorite geothermometer calculations (100–300°C) reflect the activities of hydrothermal solutions. Chlorite forms in more alkaline conditions compared with illite, as its formation is associated with the presence of carbonates. Oxygen and hydrogen stable isotope values, K-Ar dating of illites, and textural and chemical evidence suggest that clays might have formed mainly by alteration of minerals in dacitic rocks with hydrothermal fluids of magmatic origin during the Campanian under acidic–weak alkaline conditions.

Effect of antimonite mineralization area on heavy metal contents and geochemical fractions of agricultural soils in Gümüşhane Province, Turkey

Sungur, Ali; Vural, Alaaddin; Gundogdu, Ali; Soylak, Mustafa

In this study, the possible impacts of an antimonite mineralization area on agricultural lands with regard to heavy metal concentrations were examined. In this scope, surface soil samples (0–20 cm) were taken from a total of 27 locations including eleven from the Avliyana antimonite mineralization area (Torul, Gümüşhane-NW Turkey) and its surroundings, eleven from agricultural areas and five from the control area. Wet digestion method was used with aqua regia procedure for determining the total heavy metal (Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn) concentrations of the soil samples. The geochemical fractions of heavy metals in soil samples were determined by way of a sequential extraction procedure. The total heavy metal contents of the soils were determined as: Ni > Cr > Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd for control soils, Cr > Ni > Zn > Cu > Pb > Cd for agricultural soils and Zn > Cu > Ni > Cr > Pb > Cd for mining area soils. It was determined that especially the values of Zn (57.6 ± 6.2 μg/g) and Cu (52.4 ± 5.8 μg/g) were high at the mineralization area due to hydrothermal alterations that are effective in the formation of mineralization. It was put forth as a result of sequential extraction that the heavy metals examined excluding Pb were observed dominantly in the residual fraction for all data set. On the other hand, it was determined that the non-residual mobile fractions reached from 11% Cr to 78% Pb in control soils, from 20% Cd to 88% Pb in agricultural soils and from 24% Cd to 87% Pb in mineralization area soils. Contamination signals due to mineralization area were monitored by way of the metal content in mobile fractions. Even though the metal concentrations determined in short term are not alarming for agricultural production, signals were observed especially for Cd, Pb, Cu, Ni and Zn elements to be more mobile in mineralization area soils in the long term due to the impact of environmental factors thereby being carried over to and accumulating in agricultural soils. In conclusion, while it is expected that the metal inputs due to mineralization areas may increase in the future, it is suggested to include plant analyses in future studies for determining the impact of the amount of bioavailable metal.

Disaster Risk Perception of University Students

    Mızrak, Sefa; Aslan, Ramazan

Stakeholders responsible for disaster management need to understand students' disaster risk perception in order to increase community resilience. The aim of this study was to develop a scale to determine disaster risk perception of university students on campus and to investigate the disaster risk perception of the students of Gümüşhane University in Turkey. The data of the study were collected from 617 students and analyzed by means of SPSS and AMOS programs. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Mann–Whitney U test, Kruskal–Wallis H test, and structural equation model were applied. Consequently, a valid and reliable scale consisting of four factors (exposure, anxiety, effect, and uncontrollable) was obtained. According to the students, rockfall was most likely to occur on campus. Gender and type of school had a significant effect on disaster risk perception, while disaster experience, disaster education, disaster volunteer, and class level did not have a significant effect on disaster risk perception. Students with chronic illness had significantly higher perceptions of the uncontrollable. The structural equation model showed that exposure, effect, and uncontrollable were significant and positive predictors of anxiety.

AN EXTENDED ANALYSIS OF THE MODELS TO ESTIMATE PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE TEMPERATURE

Ozden, Talat; Tolgay, Doga; Yakut, M. Samet; Akinoglu, Bulent G.

To estimate the performance of the photovoltaic power systems is the key issue in their techno-economic feasibility analysis. Performances, on the other hand, strongly depends on the module temperatures of the photovoltaic systems. In this study, we evaluated the performance of ten different module temperature estimation models using the measured outdoor data of five different modules. The modules are installed at the rooftop of a building located at Central Anatolia where the climate is cold and semi-arid. The results showed that the models having smaller number of parameters perform better than the others. We concluded that such analysis should be carried out at different ambient conditions so that the best performing models for the site can be obtained. Another outcome of the study is that the seasonal evaluation of the performance of the models should be carried out.

Assessment of acid mine drainage formation using geochemical and static tests in mutki (Bitlis, se Turkey) mineralization area

Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Alemdağ, Selçuk; Akaryali, Enver

In this study, geochemical analyses, as well as short-term contact leaching and acid-base accounting tests, were carried out to determine the occurrence of acid mine drainage (AMD) by static tests in the ore stockpile areas at the Mutki Cu-Fe-Cr deposit (Bitlis, SE Turkey). According to the short-term contact leaching tests, the high enrichment in trace element concentrations in ore-bearing samples, especially in potentially toxic metals such as Cr, Cu, Mn, and Zn, were directly related to sulphide and oxide mineralizations. The pH (3.27–4.05) values of water samples, together with the classification of the intracontinental water resources, indicated that the water quality is the fourth class. Leaching tests, paste pH (3.42–4.46) and sulphide-sulphur (3.9–13.4 wt%) values also suggested that there was AMD production potential in the mineralization area. The AMD production potential was supported by the high mobility of several elements, such as Fe, Mg, Cr, As, Cu, S, and Zn. In ore samples, net neutralization potential (NNP) and net potential ratio (NPR) values were less than –20 kg CaCO3 /t and 1, respectively. The basalts forming the basement rock of the stockpile area were characterized by permeable to slightly permeable properties that potentially increase the contamination risk of the groundwater due to seepage in the stockpile area. In order to prevent seepage in the stock area, geomembrane (synthetic waterproofing covers) should be laid at the base to ensure impermeability. The improvements planned in the stock area were modeled by the finite element method and seepage discharges at a depth of 5 m were determined as 1.34 × 10–17m3/s. Thanks to these planned applications, surface and groundwater pollution can be efficiently prevented.

PUC program: The pulse pile up correction for x-ray and gamma ray spectrometry

    Karabıdak, S.M.; Kaya, S.

Pile up and dead time are two important corrections in the analysis of X-ray and gamma ray spectra. The most important of these is pile up correction because these peaks do not really exist in the spectra; they only seem to exist. For this reason, these peaks affect both the qualitative and quantitative accuracy of the analysis. In addition, the pile up pulses forming the pile up peaks increase the background count in the spectrum. Companies that produce X-ray or gamma ray detector systems design pile up reject circuits and integrate them into detector systems to prevent these pulses. These circuits have time limitations because they are made up of electronic devices. For this reason, the pile up problem cannot be solved completely in these circuits. Therefore, mathematical models based on a statistical approach are needed. Such a model was developed in this study. A computer program based on this model was developed. This developed program has been applied to X-ray and gamma ray spectra. It has been shown that this model provides about 2% correction in the main peak regions and significantly reduces background counts.

Medium scale earthflow susceptibility modelling by remote sensing and geographical information systems based multivariate statistics approach: an example from Northeastern Turkey

Dağ, Serhat; Akgün, Aykut; Kaya, Ayberk; Alemdağ, Selçuk; Bostancı, Hasan Tahsin

The aim of the present study was to produce an earthflow susceptibility map for the city center and environs of the province of Rize located at the Northeastern part of Turkey. The study area is the rainiest region of Turkey, and due to the triggering effect of precipitation earthflows are frequently observed in and around the study area. Besides this point, weathered rock units and steep topography accompany with precipitation for the occurrence of earthflow cases. Considering this point, an earthflow susceptibility mapping was inferred to be a necessity for the area. Parameters, such as lithology, slope gradient, slope aspect, topographical wetness index (TWI), stream power index (SPI), slope curvature, and sediment capacity index (LS) were considered to be earthflow conditioning parameters. A multi-temporal earthflow inventory map for a period of 4 years (2011–2015) was initially generated by way of remote sensing approach and field surveys. Earthflow susceptibility map was produced using the logistic regression method after which the produced susceptibility map was validated. The mapped earthflows were separated into two groups prior to modelling and validation. The first group was for training and the second group was for validation steps. The accuracy of the model was measured by fitting them to a validation set of mapped earthflows. Area under curvature (AUC) approach was applied for validation purposes. The prediction capability of the earthflow susceptibility map produced can be regarded as acceptable in accordance with the AUC values of 0.62 for the logistic regression model. Based on these results, the obtained earthflow susceptibility map can be used to mitigate hazards related to landslides and to aid in land-use planning for the Rize city center.

A study on the variations of recent seismicity in and around the Central Anatolian region of Turkey

    Öztürk, S.

Variations of the recent seismicity in and around the Central Anatolian region of Turkey were evaluated based on the seismic b-value, standard normal deviate Z-value, GENAS modelling, annual probabilities and return periods of the earthquakes. The catalog includes 16,702 earthquakes between 1974 and 2019 with magnitudes from 1.0 to 6.3. Time distribution of b-value shows that there is a tendency to decrease after the year of 2002 and b-value decreased from 1.58 ± 0.03 to 1.25 ± 0.05 at the beginning of 2019. Annual probabilities for magnitude ranges of 3.0–4.0 have the values between 3 and 30. Return periods for magnitude levels of 5.0–5.5 have the values from 5 to 20 years, and a value of 80 years for magnitude level of 6.0. The GENAS results show the significant temporal variations in the number of earthquakes smaller and larger than specific magnitude intervals by supplying the beginning periods of increases and decreases in the earthquake activity rate. Remarkable reductions in region-time distribution of b-value at the beginning of 2019 were detected in the regions covering Niğde fault and its vicinity along the south, west, northwest and southwest directions, among the Mut Fault Zone, Karsantı-Karaisalı Fault Zone and Karataş-Osmaniye Fault Zone, in and around Sürgü fault and along its northwest direction, between Sürgü fault and East Anatolian Fault Zone. Significant seismic quiescence areas in Z-value distribution include the northwest ends of the Tuzgölü Fault Zone and study area including Akpınar fault, the northeast of Salanda fault, between Salanda fault and the Central Anatolian Fault Zone, the northeast parts of the Central Anatolian Fault Zone, the west of Malatya fault, between Sürgü fault and the East Anatolian Fault Zone, the southeast end of the Tuzgölü Fault Zone, Karsantı-Karaisalı Fault Zone and its vicinity, the southwest of Tuzgölü. Thus, these anomaly areas observed in the Central Anatolian region and its vicinity at the beginning of 2019 may be one of the most likely zones for the next strong/large earthquake occurrences.

Political will, political skill, network resources and personal reputation: A serial two-mediator model

Demirbağ, Orkun; Demir, Hale Cide; Yozgat, Uğur

Purpose: Although social capital and positive reputation in organizations are essential for career success, there is a limited perspective in the literature on the political characteristics (motivation and ability) that enable one to acquire and develop the two elements. This study seeks to investigate the sequential role of political skill and network resources as serial mediators of the political will-personal reputation relationship. Methodology: In total, what provided data for the study were 457 sales executives from 13 different sectors in the cities of İstanbul, Kocaeli, and Bursa, which is an economically leading region of western Turkey. Executives rated their political will, political skill network resources, and personal reputation. Based on the complementary theories of political influence, social network, and signaling, we analyzed the relationships between constructs with structural equation modeling. Findings: Political skill mediated the relationship between political will and network resources, network resources mediated the relationship between political skill and personal reputation, while political skill and network resources sequentially mediated the relationship between political will and personal reputation. Implications: The data were collected from a single source. Practical Implications: Political will, political skill training, and social networks may help individuals manage their personal reputation at work, thus benefiting their careers. Originality/Value: This is one of the first studies to sequentially investigate how individuals' characteristics (motivation and ability) develop their social network and personal reputation at work. Moreover, theories of political influence, social capital, and signaling were jointly used for the first time ever.

    Ashyralyyev, C.; Cay, A.

In modeling various real processes, an important role is played by methods of solution source identification problem for partial differential equation. The current paper is devoted to approximate of elliptic over determined problem with integral condition for derivatives. In the beginning, inverse problem is reduced to some auxiliary nonlocal boundary value problem with integral boundary condition for derivatives. The parameter of equation is defined after solving that auxiliary nonlocal problem. The second order of accuracy difference scheme for approximately solving abstract elliptic overdetermined problem is proposed. By using operator approach existence of solution difference problem is proved. For solution of constructed difference scheme stability and coercive stability estimates are established. Later, obtained abstract results are applied to get stability estimates for solution Neumann-type overdetermined elliptic multidimensional difference problems with integral conditions. Finally, by using MATLAB program, we present numerical results for two dimensional and three dimensional test examples with short explanation on realization on computer.

Development of a healthy corn-based snack with sage (Salvia officinalis L.) seed

Yuksel, Ferhat; Ilyasoglu, Huri; Baltaci, Cemalettin

A healthy corn-based snack was developed from the corn flour and sage (Salvia officinialis L.) seed flour. The effects of the process variables (sage seed flour: 0–15%, frying temperature: 170–190 °C, and frying time: 40–60 s) on the nutritional properties, fatty acid composition and oxidative stability of the snack chips were evaluated via Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The response models explaining 72–96% variability in the responses were obtained. Only sage seed flour presented significant effects on the nutritional properties (p < 0.05). The interaction term of sage seed flour and frying temperature showed significant effects on the fatty acid composition (p < 0.05). The sage seed flour could decrease total starch and in vitro glycemic index and increase total dietary fiber. The snack chips contained unsaturated fatty acids more than 60%, and their oils had acceptable peroxide value. The fortification of corn-based snack with sage seed enhanced the nutritional value.

Visual Perception for Multiple Human-Robot Interaction from Motion Behavior

Benli, Emrah; Motai, Yuichi; Rogers, John

Visual perception is an important component for human-robot interaction processes in robotic systems. Interaction between humans and robots depends on the reliability of the robotic vision systems. The variation of camera sensors and the capability of these sensors to detect many types of sensory inputs improve the visual perception. The analysis of activities, motions, skills, and behaviors of humans and robots have been addressed by utilizing the heat signatures of the human body. The human motion behavior is analyzed by body movement kinematics, and the trajectory of the target is used to identify the objects and the human target in the omnidirectional (O-D) thermal images. The process of human target identification and gesture recognition by traditional sensors have problem for multitarget scenarios since these sensors may not keep all targets in their narrow field of view (FOV) at the same time. O-D thermal view increases the robots' line-of-sights and ability to obtain better perception in the absence of light. The human target is informed of its position, surrounding objects and any other human targets in its proximity so that humans with limited vision or vision disability can be assisted to improve their ability in their environment. The proposed method helps to identify the human targets in a wide FOV and light independent conditions to assist the human target and improve the human-robot and robot-robot interactions. The experimental results show that the identification of the human targets is achieved with a high accuracy.

Geochemical composition of magnetite from different iron skarn mineralizations in NE Turkey: implication for source of ore-forming fluids

Sipahi, Ferkan; Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Saydam Eker, Çiğdem

Iron oxide mineralizations in the eastern part of the Pontides (NE Turkey) are hosted in the skarn environments which are the Pontide paleomagmatic arc. These mineralizations always occur in the contacts between granitoid and limestone. Magnetites are hosted in carbonate rocks and generally formed during garnet-magnetite-epidote-quartz phase. Magnetites have high Co (15.8–43.4 ppm for the Kopuz, 11–12.5 ppm for the Eğrikar, and 3.8–1266.7 ppm for the Karadağ) concentrations suggesting that the sulfide decreased from the early to the late phases in the iron skarn mineralization forming systems. The Co/Ni ratios in the magnetites (0.12 to 35.38 for Karadağ, 2.19 to 13.53 for the Kopuz, and 2.39 to 5.21 for the Eğrikar) show the hydrothermal effect on the magmatic source in iron skarns in the study area. Thus, variable Co/Ni ratios reflect interactions between the magma with the host rock during successive alteration stages. Magnetites in this study have Sc-Nb-Mg-Ti depletions and Ta enrichment. In this study, high Co, Ti, and V contents in magnetites suggest the high temperature (300–500 °C) and low ƒO2. The V contents of the magnetite in the Karadağ increase with the decreasing oxygen fugacity of fluid(s) forming magnetites, whereas the V contents of the magnetites in the Kopuz and Eğrikar decrease with increasing oxygen fugacity of fluid(s) forming magnetites. Element patterns and Ni/Cr ratio (< 1) of the magnetite are geochemically similar to those of magnetite in Fe-skarn deposits and partly magmatic accessory magnetite of I-type granites. As a result, the Co, Ni, V, and Ti elements of the magnetite have played an important role in the discriminating and interpreting of skarn mineralizations in the eastern Pontides and support a calcic skarn origin with studies of the mineralization geology.

A simplified neutrosophic multiplicative set-based TODIM using water-filling algorithm for the determination of weights

Köseoğlu, Ali; Şahin, Rıdvan; Merdan, Mehmet

Due to the technological developments around the world, the amount of information that researchers work on increases continuously. This information density contains incomplete and uncertain data that cannot be fully expressed with crisp numbers. Fuzzy sets, intuitionistic fuzzy sets, and neutrosophic sets are useful tools to manage such information, but these concepts use a symmetrical and uniform scale to express data, whereas real-life problems contain nonsymmetrical and non-uniform information. Intuitionistic multiplicative sets (IMSs) are effective tools for dealing with these real-life problems. However, IMSs cannot handle real-life problems completely because indeterminate information depends on membership and non-membership information of IMSs, which is a restriction for decision makers and also for decision problems. To overcome this limitation, this paper generalizes the IMSs by using simplified neutrosophic set and introduces a novel approach that is called simplified neutrosophic multiplicative sets (SNMSs). Firstly, we define SNMS, show their set-based operations, and then give a description of simplified neutrosophic multiplicative numbers (SNMNs). Based on SNMNs, we develop two simplified neutrosophic multiplicative aggregation operators on SNMNs that are called simplified neutrosophic multiplicative weighted arithmetic average operator and simplified neutrosophic multiplicative weighted geometric average operator. Furthermore, we define some simplified neutrosophic multiplicative distance measures. Finally, using a model based on water-filling algorithm for determining criteria weights, we give a numerical example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the introduced concept with the proposed simplified neutrosophic multiplicative simplified neutrosophic multiplicative-TODIM method.

Tribocorrosion behaviour of porous anatase and rutile phases formed on surface of anodised Ti45Nb alloy

    Tasdemir, Muharrem; Alsaran, Akgun

Titanium alloys are used across a wide range of sectors—from aerospace to health—because of their low density, high strength, and corrosion resistance properties. In recent years, the use of alloying elements such as niobium (Nb), tantalum (Ta), and zirconium (Zr) has still not eliminated existing wear problems, in spite of being preferred to conventional titanium alloys that are non-toxic and have better corrosion and mechanical properties. In order to overcome this problem of titanium alloys, various surface treatments are applied. This study was mainly aimed at investigating tribocorrosion properties of anatase, rutile, and anatase-rutile phases formed on the surface of Ti45Nb by anodising at different potential values. The structural and mechanical properties of these structures were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), nanoindentation, and a 3D profilometer. Tribocorrosion tests were carried out at open-circuit potential (OCP) and two different anodic in NaCl solutions. It was found that the wear volume was affected by mechanical action rather than chemical effects for all samples during tribocorrosion. It was concluded that while a surface structure including anatase is more sensitive to chemical effects, the rutile structures were shown to be more resistant to both mechanical and chemical attacks during tribocorrosion tests.

Abstract: In this study, the inhibition potential of 3- and 4-arylcoumarin derivatives on Theileria annulata enolase (TaENO) was assessed for the first time in the literature. Firstly, protein stabilization analyses of TaENO were performed and it was found that the enzyme remains stable with the addition of 6 M ethylene glycol at + 4 °C. Inhibitor screening analyses were carried out using 25 coumarin derivatives on highly purified TaENO (> 95%), and four coumarin derivatives [4-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (C8); 4-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-7,8 dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (C9); 4-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-6,7-dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2 one (C21); and 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-7,8-dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (C23)] showed the highest inhibitory effects with the IC50 values of 10.450, 13.170, 8.871 and 10.863 µM, respectively. The kinetic results indicated that these compounds inhibited the enzyme by uncompetitive inhibition. In addition, the successful binding of the most potent inhibitor (C21) into TaENO was confirmed by using MALDI-TOF mass spectrophotometry. Molecular docking analyses have predicted that C8 and C21 coumarin derivatives which showed high inhibitory effects on TaENO were interacted with high affinity to the potential regions out of the active site. Taken together, these coumarin derivatives (C8, C9, C21 and C23) are first known potent, nonsubstrate, uncompetitive inhibitors of TaENO and these results will facilitate further in vitro and in vivo analysis toward structure-based drug design studies.
