- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ2Reliability generalization meta-analysis of the food neophobia scale: Turkish sample
Polat, Eray; Çalişkan, Serkan
Purpose: The Food Neophobia Scale developed by Pliner and Hobden (1992) has been widely utilized globally and in Turkey for many years to measure people's fear of new foods. This study aims to determine the mean value by conducting a reliability generalization meta-analysis for the reported reliability coefficients of individual studies in Turkey's tourism field, which employed Pliner and Hobden's scale to investigate food neophobia. Additionally, this study explores variations in the mean value among subgroups. Methods: A reliability generalization meta-analysis based on a random-effects model was conducted to examine the heterogeneity of reliability coefficients in the study, along with heterogeneity analyses and moderator analyses. Results: Based on the analysis of 48 independent samples (N= 23306), the transformed mean Cronbach's alpha value was estimated to be .827 (95% CI [.796-.853]) and found to be significant. The Q-test and I2 values reveal significant heterogeneity between alpha coefficients, indicating a notable variation in the measurement reliability across samples. Moderator analyses using analog to the ANOVA and meta-regression analyses showed that reliability coefficients differed according to the variables of publication type, sample type, and proportion of women in the sample. Implications: The results offer valuable insight for researchers seeking to select appropriate scales for investigating food neophobia.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ3The effects of psychosocial interventions applied to forensic psychiatry patients on social functioning and anger level: a meta-analysis study
Emirza, Elif Güzide; Gülirmak Güler, Kübra; Uzun, Sevda
This study was conducted to determine the effects of psychosocial interventions on social functioning and anger levels in forensic psychiatry patients. Data for this meta-analysis study were gathered by searching databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, and YÖK Thesis Center, without any year restriction, from September to December 2023. After a thorough review, 12 studies were deemed appropriate for the analysis. The findings of this meta-analysis indicate that psychosocial treatments administered to forensic psychiatry patients led to an increase in their level of social functioning (SMD: 0.513, 95% CI: 0.072–0.995; Z = 2.280; p <.05) and a decrease in their level of anger (SMD: −0.701, 95% CI: −1.301 to −0.100;Z = −2.287; p <.05). It was also observed that the effectiveness of the psychosocial intervention was not influenced by the type of psychotherapy, the country where the study was conducted, or the duration of the treatment. Psychosocial interventions for forensic psychiatry patients positively affect the mental health of individuals.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ3Effect of Interventions to Reduce Fear of Childbirth in Pregnancy: Meta-Analysis
Sarı, Tuğba; Gürhan, Nermin; Uzun, Sevda
BACKGROUND: Some pregnant women have negative emotions that may predominate and they may develop a fear of childbirth. This causes negative consequences for their health and well-being. A complete definition of the causes of childbirth fear has not yet been established in the literature, but in a systematic review, various factors were found. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to reveal the effect of educational, cognitive, and behavioral interventions on the reduction of fear of childbirth (FOC) in pregnant women. METHODS: For this meta-analysis study, articles in PubMed, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, YÖK Thesis Center, and Google Scholar databases were searched without any year limitation in between September 2022 and February 2023. A total of 25 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The data were analyzed by meta-analysis and narrative methods. RESULTS: This meta-analysis showed that educational, cognitive, and behavioral interventions were effective in reducing FOC in pregnant women (standardized mean difference: −1.229, 95% confidence interval [−1.586, −0.872]; Z = −6,746, p = .000, I2 = 94.225%). In subgroup analyzes, intervention types such as antenatal education, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and psychotherapy were found to be effective in reducing FOC. Interventions applied to women who have FOC reduce the FOC and provide a more positive birth experience. CONCLUSION: Results of the present study showed that educational programs could serve as an important tool in reducing women’s fear from natural childbirth and in choosing physiologic birth.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ1The effect of psychotherapeutic interventions on posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms, depression and self-esteem in women exposed to violence: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Emirza, Elif Güzide; Uzun, Sevda
This study aimed to reveal the level of effect of psychotherapeutic interventions on post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, depression, and self-esteem in women who had been exposed to violence. For this systematic review and meta-analysis study, PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, and YÖK Thesis Center databases were searched without any year limitation in August-December 2022, and 28 studies were included. The data were synthesized using meta-analysis and narrative methods. This systematic review and meta-analysis found that psychotherapeutic interventions for women exposed to violence were effective on post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms in individuals (SMD: -0,590, %95 CI: -0,893- 0.196; Z= -2,937, p = 0.003, I2= %93,59). Psychotherapeutic interventions had a significant effect on women’s depression levels in favor of the intervention group, and there was high heterogeneity between the studies (SMD: -0,475, %95 CI: -0,838- 0.113; Z= -2,569, p = 0.010, I2= %90,68). Subgroup analyses showed that cognitive behavioral therapy was effective in the treatment of intimate partner violence. It was also found that psychotherapeutic interventions did not affect women’s self-esteem levels. Psychotherapeutic therapies for women who have experienced violence have a favorable impact on them and improve their mental health.

Semerci, Murat; Uzun, Sevda
Objective: This study aimed to determine the level of impact of post-disaster psychotherapeutic interventions. Material method: For this systematic review and meta-analysis study, the studies were accessed through the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, and YÖK Thesis Center in July-September 2022 without any year limitation. As a result of the examinations, 27 studies were included in the study. The data were synthesized by meta-analysis and narrative methods. Results: According to the results of this systematic review and meta-analysis, post-disaster psychotherapeutic interventions were found to be effective (SMD:−0838, %95 CI: −1,087- 0.588; Z = −6588, p = 0.000, I2 = %95,249). Individuals who have undergone psychotherapeutic interventions experience either no or fewer post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. The country/continent of the research, the types of psychotherapeutic interventions, the type of disaster, and the measurement tool used influence the effectiveness of the psychotherapeutic interventions. Psychotherapeutic interventions applied especially after earthquakes, one of the types of disasters, were found to be effective. In addition, EMDR, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and exposure method were found to reduce posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in individuals in the post-disaster period. Conclusion: Post-disaster psychotherapeutic interventions have positive impacts on people and improve their mental health.
