- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2021The measurement of employee welfare and its effects on the output level
Kocağ, Esra Karapinar
Welfare, in general, refers to both economic and social prosperity of individuals. From an economic point of view, individuals are very important actors of the labour market in the production process. This chapter focuses on employees and attempts to offer a valuable insight into the concept of welfare, its measurement, and its potential impact on the national product. Measuring welfare is not straightforward due to its multidimensional concept. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a way of measurement of employee welfare through an index that combines selected welfare components of employees. In the process of building that index, principal component analysis (PCA) was applied. Preserving variability and reducing dimensionality, this method is a very functional tool to represent multidimensional variables such as welfare in this case. Eurostat data for the period of 2008-2018 were utilized to explain the impact of employee welfare on the GDP per capita for 32 European countries. Findings revealed that employee welfare is a significant indicator of the national product.
- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2021An Assessment of Imbalanced Control Chart Pattern Recognition by Artificial Neural Networks
Ünlü, Ramazan
Manual detection of abnormality in control data is an annoying work which requires a specialized person. Automatic detection might be simpler and effective. Various methodologies such as ANN, SVM, Fuzzy Logic, etc. have been implemented into the control chart patterns to detect abnormal patterns in real time. In general, control chart data is imbalanced, meaning the rate of minority class (abnormal pattern) is much lower than the rate of normal class (normal pattern). To take this fact into consideration, authors implemented a weighting strategy in conjunction with ANN and investigated the performance of weighted ANN for several abnormal patterns, then compared its performance with regular ANN. This comparison is also made under different conditions, for example, abnormal and normal patterns are separable, partially separable, inseparable and the length of data is fixed as being 10, 20, and 30 for each. Based on numerical results, weighting policy can better predict in some of the cases in terms of classifying samples belonging to minority class to the correct class.

- BildiriAçık Erişim2019Firm Selection Based on Logistics Risk Factors: A Multiple Criteria Decision Making Approach
Peker, Iskender; Korucuk, Selcuk; Baki, Birdogan
Logistics firms are exposed several domestic and global risks such as variability in demand, shipment damages, earthquakes, and terrorist attacks. The purpose of this study is to provide an approach for selecting a logistics firm based on logistics risk factors according to the manufacturing firms' perspectives. An analytical network process method is utilized to determine risk factors' importance levels and VIKOR method is used to select the logistics firm. The study results show that the most important logistics risk factors are customer and supplier, and the least risky logistic firm is B. It can be concluded that the proposed model enables managers to examine potential risks influencing their logistics activities and select the logistics firm having minimum risk.
- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2017Green development: Case of Turkey, Norway, and China
Doğru, Bülent; Beken, Hikmet Gülçin
The focus of this chapter is to assess green or sustainable development concept because of its increased importance throughout the world. Droughts, environmental degradation, air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions are important problems that the humankind have been facing since the Industrial Revolution. Renewable energy sources can be used to overcome these problems. The general tendency of modern-day societies is to transform traditional production techniques and development models to new renewable energy sources and also move towards to sustainable development path. Therefore, this study tries to explain current status of Norway, China and Turkey in terms of their renewable energy sources and policy implementations.
- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2016Marketing approach for non-profit organizations
Ayyildiz, Hasan; Akmermer, Bilgen; Akyüz, Ahmet Mutlu
All marketing definitions focus on the same point: customer orientation and the satisfaction of customer needs. Within this framework, although marketing approach in most of studies primarily deal with institutions and enterprises in profit/private sector, it has become crucial for all kind of organizations including non-profit ones. In recent years, many non-profits have grown larger and continue to improve their growth and effectiveness. In this sense, marketing is touchstone of developing non-profits. This part hopes to create a perspective to marketing definition to understand the relevance of marketing to non-profit organizations and how marketing strategies should be adapted to them for success.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2015Religious Social Movements and Economic Welfare in Modern Turkey
Köroğlu, Cemile Zehra; Köroğlu, Muhammet Ali
In all societies, there have been some movements that point out social, political, economic, ideological, or moral problems or aim at partial or complete change. This chapter discusses the new meanings attributed to the concept of social movements in the postmodern era. A theoretical framework is proposed to understand the nature of social movements since the 1960s and to demonstrate their differences from classical movements. Turkey provides a particularly rich context with high potential for social movements, both with secular and religious aspirations. Religious social movements have shown quite a tense relationship with the state throughout the history of the republic; yet, they have gained power and prosperity through evolving liberal economic policies since the 1980s. Therefore, resource mobilization and new social movement paradigms are used in this chapter to explain Turkey’s religious social movements today.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2014Electronic word-of-mouth: Factors affecting consumer review writing behavior on electronic platforms
Yildiz, Emel; Ayyildiz, Hasan
This chapter examines the effects of word-of-mouth motivations and culture on electronic word-of-mouth behavior. This chapter also focuses on the effects of cultural values on electronic word-of-mouth behavior. Within the context of the study, online forums in which consumers write comments have been used. The data was obtained from an electronic survey provided to 561 consumers. The reliability of scales has been tested via the Cronbach's Alfa Method and the validity of scales has been tested by Factor Analysis. After determining the reliability and validity of the scales, research hypotheses were tested by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Multiple Regression Analysis. The findings show that motivation and culture have positive effects on electronic word-of-mouth behavior. This chapter also attempts to explain the effects of cultural values on electronic word-of-mouth behavior, and it is found that while uncertainty avodiance and masculinity have positive effects, individualism and power distance have negative effects on electronic word-of-mouth behavior.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2013Factors affecting electronic service brand equity
Yildiz, Salih; Kurtuldu, Hüseyin Sabri
The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting electronic service brand equity and to investigate consumers' perceptions of the electronic service brands they prefer. Additionally, the study, based on the Rios and Riquelme's electronic brand equity model, determines whether demographic characteristics of consumers cause significant differences regarding perceptions of electronic service brand equity. Within the context of this study, an electronic service site in the book/magazine sector was employed. The survey sample size was 675 as a result of an electronic survey administered on selected Websites. The reliability of the scales used in the survey was tested via Cronbach's Alfa Method and the validity of the scales were tested via Factor Analysis. Hypotheses of the survey were tested using difference methods (e.g., ANOVA, multiple regression analysis, T-test). It was determined that e-image, e-quality, e-loyalty, e-trust, e-awareness, and e-value factors are effective for developing electronic service brand equity. Furthermore, it can be claimed that age, income, and education cause significant differences regarding perceptions of electronic service brand equity, while gender, occupation, and marital status do not cause significant differences of perceptions regarding the same.
