Managing information asymmetry and conflicting interests in multi stakeholder sustainable supply chains using multi-criteria decision analysis

    Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadir; Şimşek, Aybala

This chapter focuses on the challenges which information asymmetry and conflicts of interest present to multi- stakeholder sustainable supply chain design and suggests the use of MCDA to address these challenges. It looks at the ways information imbalances and divergent stakeholder priorities hamper cooperation and sustainability objectives to produce trust problems and ineffectiveness. These challenges are outlined in the chapter using theoretical underpinnings such as Game Theory and Akerlof's Market of Lemons. Next, it illustrates the MCDA's role in dealing with these problems (transparency, balancing conflicting interests and making the decision in an inclusive way). The practical application of MCDA is illustrated via a hypothetical green supply chain project that demonstrates the ability of diverse stakeholder priorities to be harmonised through systematic criteria evaluation and consensus building. The chapter concludes with a discussion of MCDA's potential for integrating environmental, social and economic goals in optimal decision making in complex supply chains.

Challenges of adopting artificial technology in human resource management practices

    Şimşek, Tuğçe; Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadir

In this study, the challenges faced by organisations in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into human resource management (HRM) practises are examined. For that, AI can bring significant benefits, includ¬ing increasing efficiency and decision-making in the HR processes, namely recruitment, performance evaluation and talent development. Its adoption, however, presents many challenges in technological infrastructure, data privacy, ethical, and organizational culture. This chapter investigates these barriers, particularly the importance of proper management changes and the trade-off between human element and AI's capabilities. The article discusses strategies for overcoming these challenges, the importance of practising ethical AI, data security and employee development. This study offers actionable insights for organisations attempting to leverage AI in HRM in a way that can succeed at both the operational and ethical dimensions.

Sentiment analysis in employee experience using natural language processing and machine learning

    Şimşek, Tugçe; Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadir

This chapter focuses on the use of sentiment analysis in the handling of employee experience. When organisations start thinking about the experience of their employees as a factor that influences performance and turnover, sentiment analysis provides a quantitative way of measuring emotions, satisfaction and engagement of employees. This chapter attentions on several NLP techniques that can be employed in the analysis of the employee feedback which include tokenization, stop- word removal and vectorization. It also looks at how other machine learning models such as Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machines, and Long Short- Term Memory can be used to categorize emotions as positive, negative, or neutral. In addition, the problem of language, culture, and data bias is described, and the ways to solve them are also described. The future potential of the real- time emotion analysis and the use of sentiment data along with the organizational KPIs for improving the management of employees' experience is depicted.

Inferences on countries through MCDM over pharmaceutical consumption

    Meydan, Bilge; Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadir

This chapter aims to obtain various inferences about the health systems of countries by using multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods on drug consumption data. Pharmaceutical consumption is seen as a useful resource for assessing the performance of health systems. This chapter aims to comprehensively analyse the health systems of countries by combining CoCoSo and TOPSIS-Sort-B methods. Pharmaceutical consumption will be used to assess the performance of countries' health systems for each group within the framework of anatomical therapeutic chemical (ATC) classification. For each ATC class, countries will be ranked by CoCoSo method and classified as good-medium-poor by TOPSIS-S ort-B method. The findings have the potential to be a valuable resource for health systems managers, policy makers, health economists, researchers, and other relevant stakeholders. It will also serve as a practical guide for researchers who want to apply MCDM in the field of health.

Evaluation of the disaster tourism potential of countries

    Göktekin, Zekiye; Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadir

Disasters are tragic events that cause losses. The curiosity of people to feel sadness and pain motivates disaster tourism. Each disaster region has the potential for disaster tourism, which offers various benefits. This chapter covers the evaluation of the disaster tourism potential of countries with the fuzzy-TOPSIS method. The criteria affecting the disaster tourism potential as the number of dead, injured, affected, and homeless people were weighted according to the evaluations of the decision-makers. Disasters that occurred worldwide between 1980-2022 were analyzed with the criteria weights based on the countries where they occurred. Decision-makers mostly evaluated the number of deaths and homeless as more effective in affecting the desire to visit a disaster area and the attractiveness of the region. Among 90 countries, it has been determined that Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation are the two countries with the highest disaster tourism potential as to the number of losses/disasters, while Ethiopia is the country with the lowest disaster tourism potential.
