- MakaleAçık Erişim2022High-Risky Sectors in Terms of Work Accidents in Turkey
Ceylan, Hüseyin; Kaplan, Ahmet; Bekar, Murat
Work accidents are serious issues that disrupt harmonious environment in workplace. They cause not only death, injury or disability of employees, but also serious financial loss for businesses and countries. Work accidents are highly preventable incidents, when necessary, precautions are taken. Like the whole world, in Turkey also there are risky sectors where work accidents are intensified. The identification of risky sectors in Turkey, is the first step of being able to fight against work accidents in this sector. Therefore, in this study the riskiest sectors in Turkey were investigated basing on the official accident data from the last ten years. Thus, first of all, the sectoral distribution of work accidents, death and permanent incapacity cases that occurred in Turkey in 2010-2019 was examined. Sectors were evaluated in terms of six different parameters: the number of work accidents, the number of deaths because of work accidents, the number of permanent incapacities because of work accidents, general accident incidence rate, fatal accident incidence rate, and permanent incapacity accident incidence rate. The top ten sectors with intensity have been determined for each parameter. Then, all these data were combined and the ten most risky sectors in Turkey in terms of work accidents were defined. In the last 10 years, the sector of "41-Building Construction" has been found to be the riskiest sector in Turkey, where the most work accidents have occurred, the most employees die and the most employees are permanently disabled. On the other hand, the "05- Mining of Coal and Lignite" sector, in which the general accident incidence rate, fatal accident incidence rate, and permanent incapacity accident incidence rate values are the highest, was the second most risky sector.

Introduction: Patients do not feel competent in managing their post-heart surgery processes. They need access to the right information to manage their symptoms. A mobile app is the right tool for this process, with its accessibility and reminder features at any time. We investigated the effects of 4-week mobile app training on respiratory functions and maintenance of drug compliance in patients after heart surgery. Material and methods: This paper reported the findings of an experimental study, which recruited a total of 120 participants of whom all underwent heart surgery. The following outcomes were measured: TriFlo results, the Morisky Questionnaire - self-reported measure of adherence, and results of the Symptom Interpretation Questionnaire. Results: All groups showed a significant difference in Symptom Interpretation Scale subscales after using the mobile app. When the results of the research are evaluated, it can be said that there is a need for nurses to produce new-generation technological equipment to meet the needs of new products to be used in the field of health. Conclusions: Individuals can solve their post-operative symptom management problems with a mobile app. The use of a mobile app positively contributes to the management of the 2 most common symptoms after heart surgery. Mobile apps are used in many disease processes in the world. The results of these studies contribute to the limited information presenting results regarding drug compliance and lung capacity in patients with a bypass between mobile apps.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ1A Parametric Study on Earthquake-Damaged Square Hollow Section T-Joints under Fire Conditions
Ozyurt, E.
This study numerically investigated the elevated temperature resistance of earthquake-damaged square hollow section (SHS) T-joints subjected to brace axial compressive load. The residual stresses and deformations due to the earthquake were obtained from a pushover analysis. The extensive numerical simulations were analyzed using nonlinear finite-element software to examine the effects of the beta ratio, gamma ratio, damage level ((D) over cap), and initial applied load (n(f)) on the fire resistance of SHS T-joints after verification of the numerical simulations based on the available test results in the literature. The results indicated that the fire resistance of SHS T-joints with axial compressive load in the brace member decreased significantly due to the residual stresses and deformations from the earthquake. This situation worsened in all numerical models as the damage level increased. The reduction rate of the critical temperature at various damage rates was independent of the initially applied load ratio, but the loading rate directly affected the fire resistance of the joint regardless of the earthquake. As the beta ratio decreased, the yielded area at the brace-to-chord intersection region increased. Thus, the critical temperature of the joints at a constant damage level was inversely proportional to the beta ratio. Joints with a large gamma ratio had larger residual stresses and deformations than those of corresponding joints with a small. ratio. Therefore, the fire resistance of the joints after the earthquake decreased as the chord-wall thickness decreased. The critical temperature of the joints with either a large beta or gamma ratio was limited by the deformation limit at high damage levels. The fire resistance of the SHS T-joints after the earthquake decreased due to residual stresses and deformations. That effect increased even more in joints with high beta and. ratios. - MakaleAçık Erişim2022Public Expenditures, Economic Growth and Income Inequality: Empirical Evidence from the Commonwealth of Independent States
Recepoglu, Mursit
This study has examined the causality relationship between public expenditures, economic growth and income inequality for transition economies called the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In the study, in which the 1998-2019 period was analyzed, the effects of public expenditures on economic growth and income inequality were determined with the bootstrap panel causality test. Bootstrap panel causality test results show that there is a one-way causality relationship from public expenditures to economic growth for Armenia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. On the other hand, a one-way causality relationship has been determined from public expenditures to income inequality in Belarus and Kazakhstan, and from income inequality to public expenditures in Kyrgyzstan. In Moldova and Russia, however, no causal relationship could be obtained between the variables. The overall evaluation of the findings obtained from the panel causality tests concluded that public expenditures in CIS member countries are closely related to both economic growth and income inequality. CIS member countries need state interventions in order for the market system to fully settle in transition period. However, implementing policies that do not exclude private investments and do not harm the functioning of the market economy should be elaborated during practicing public expenditure policies in these countries in transition.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Technologized Life as an Imagining of Eternality from Antenatal to Post-Mortem
Demir, Sertac Timur
In this article, everyday technology, which tends to expand without limits, is discussed in the context of contemporary practices that start from antenatal to death and that correspond to the desire for immortality of modern man. For this purpose, it is examined how technology intervenes in life and death through the episodes of Arkangel, Right Be Back, and San Junipero in Black Mirror, the popular science fiction series. In this study, the current social and human dilemmas that appear in the narratives are discussed, without ignoring the technical analysis of the series. In this respect, gene based medical studies that reformat the body, smart and synthetic technologies that add a new dimension to digital control and surveillance, contemporary medical and technoscientific assumptions about death and immortality are debated. The theoretical framework of this article consists of theoreticians such as Jean Baudrillard, David Le Breton and Byung Chul Han who consider that the change in social structure and relations is mainly driven by technology and critically approach this unavoidable trend. According to the main argument and inference of this research, technologies that can descend to every part of the body are no longer just the comfort and convenience extensions of daily lite, and they affect almost all ontological processes between existence and extinction by being articulated with human destiny. However, this global trend is also the loss of the natural and the real for the modern characters who are deprived of the human conditions such as pain and death that make life precious.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2022The Problem of Mental Causation in John Searle's Theory of Consciousness
Kaya, Asli Uner
Some philosophers of mind claim that non-reductionist physicalist theories of the mind cannot explain the causal interaction between consciousness and the physical world. The problem is about explaining how consciousness, which cannot be reduced to physical processes, interacts with the physical world without violating the laws of physics. John Searle claims to have solved the problem of mental causation in his theory of mind, which he calls Biological Naturalism, exhibiting a non-reductionist attitude. In this study, I aim to evaluate Searle's solution to the problem of mental causation. For this purpose, I will first touch on mental causation and how it is understood. Then, I will outline the problem and address the specific criticisms against non-reductionist physicalists. Finally, considering these criticisms, I will show under what conditions Searle's solution to the problem of mental causation can be accepted as correct.

Çelik, Meryem; Ilyasoglu, Huri
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of black lentil flour (BLF) on the quality of wheat bread. The control bread with wheat flour and BLF-supplemented breads (2, 6 and 10 %, respectively) were prepared and analyzed in terms of proximate composition, physicochemical and sensorial properties, total phenolic content (TPC), and antioxidant activity. The BLF-supplemented breads provided significantly higher protein compared to the control bread (p < 0.05). Moreover, it improved significantly TPC and antioxidant capacity (p < 0.05). However, the addition of BLF reduced significantly the specific volume of the bread, L* and b* values of both crumb and crust (p < 0.05). The BLF had no influence overall acceptability. Our findings revealed that the BLF may a have potential use to enhance the quality of wheat bread.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2022The Effect Of Conspicuous Consumption Behavior On Wasteful Consumption Behavior: The Intermediary Role Of Hedonic Consumption Behavior
Avci, Ibrahim
The concept of consumption, which has an important place in people's lives, is generally expressed as the use of produced goods and services in line with needs. Consumption now includes the psychological needs of people as well as their physical needs. Consumers can buy things they do not need by acting pleasure-orientedly, and they exhibit consumption behaviors to provide psychological satisfaction. One of the consumer-purchase patterns is found to demonstrate others in the social environment. Therefore, non-need consumption focused on pleasure and display causes excessive consumption; this situation can also cause wastefulness. Accordingly, in the present study, the aim was to examine the effect ofconspicuous consumption behavior on wasteful consumption behavior and the mediating role of hedonic consumption behavior in this effect. With the online survey form prepared, 519 participants were reached between the dates of 21.05.2020-06.07.2020. The data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS 21, AMOS 24, and PROCESS 3.5 programs. After the analysis, it was concluded that conspicuous consumption behavior has an effect on wasteful consumption behavior and that hedonic consumption behavior has a mediating effect.

Esmaeilzad, Nasim Seyedpour; Dino, Ipek Gursel; Güney, Dilara; Yildirim, Yusuf Ersoy; Turan, Rasit; Özden, Talat; Amaducci, S
Agrivoltaic systems combine soil-grown crops with photovoltaic (PV) panels erected several meters above the ground. Combining solar panels and food crops on the same land can maximize land utilization. Under the PV panels, however, microclimate factors like solar radiation, air temperature, humidity, and soil temperature change. An agrivoltaic system must optimize sunlight sharing between solar panels and crops to maximize food energy production. It has been challenging to improve and analyze the performance of agrivoltaic systems due to the lack of a defined crop-specific parameter. In this work, we present a practical option to partially replace bifacial modules with semi-transparent ones, providing comparable levels of crop protection and greater climate change resilience while generating green energy and increasing land-use efficiency. The agrivoltaic system must be tailored to satisfy the needs of crops. For this purpose, a simulation model was conducted, which examined the impact of module transparency and cell layout based on light availability.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ3Investigation of the Relationship among Fault Types, Focal Depths, and Ionospheric TEC Anomalies before Large Earthquakes between 2000 and 2020
Ulukavak, Mustafa; Yalçinkaya, Mualla; Kayikçi, Emine Tanir; Öztürk, Serkan; Kandemir, Raif; Karsli, Hakan
In this study, the relationships between possible ionospheric total electron content (TEC) anomalies and earthquake focal depths and fault types were investigated using 3,099 global earthquakes with Mw >= 6.0 between 2000 and 2020. The relationship between the ionospheric TEC changes and earthquakes has been previously discussed in the literature. However, very few studies have examined the relationship between the focal depths and the fault types of these earthquakes. In general, three indices, namely the disturbance storm-time index (Dst), the planetary geomagnetic activity index (Kp), and the solar flux (F10.7), are used to characterize the space weather conditions (SWC) that affect TEC anomalies and to identify the active/quiet days for future earthquakes. In this study, 13 different indices were used: indices that measured solar activity included proton flux (Pf) at six different energy levels, F10.7, and extreme ultraviolet (EUV0.1-50 nm and EUV26-34 nm). Meanwhile, geomagnetic storm indices included Dst, Kp, the z-component of the magnetic field index (Bz), and proton density (P-d). By using the ionospheric TEC values derived from global ionosphere maps (GIM-TEC), both negative and positive ionospheric TEC anomalies were observed for 15 days before and 4 days after the earthquakes using a statistical analysis technique that involved a 15-day moving median. The earthquakes were grouped according to their fault types (normal, thrust, and strike-slip) and focal depths (shallow, intermediate, and deep). Their relationships with the negative and positive TEC anomalies in the quiet days before the earthquake were examined. Negative and positive anomalies were observed approximately 3-12 days before earthquakes that occurred on normal faults, approximately 5-8 days before earthquakes that occurred on thrust faults, and approximately 1-12 days before earthquakes that occurred on strike-slip faults. The average TEC anomaly changes were calculated to be 43.4% total electron content unit (TECU) for normal faults, 44.8% TECU for thrust faults, and 41.3% TECU for strike-slip faults. Positive anomaly values were exhibited by larger earthquakes on normal and thrust faults, whereas negative anomaly values tended to occur on strike-slip faults. Negative and positive TEC anomalies were detected around 3-12 days before shallow earthquakes, around 1-13 days before intermediate-depth earthquakes, and around 1-12 days before deep earthquakes. The average TEC anomaly changes were calculated to be 44.4% TECU for shallow earthquakes, 43.3% TECU for intermediate-depth earthquakes, and 42.6% TECU for deep earthquakes. Positive anomaly values were also found to be higher than the negative anomaly values in each group. We propose that there is a relationship between the ionospheric TEC anomalies that occur before large earthquakes and their fault types and focal depths. (C) 2022 American Society of Civil Engineers.

Yilmaz, Mehmet Fatih; Acar, Emrah; Inanir, Mehmet; Karabay, Can Yucel; Izgi, Ibrahim Akin
Introduction Data regarding the possible role of heparanase (HPA) in the occurrence of left atrial/left atrial appendage (LA/LAA) thrombus in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) is lacking. The goal of the present study was to assess the association between plasma levels of HPA and LA/LAA thrombus in AF. Methods A total of 687 patients with nonvalvular AF (NVAF) without anticoagulation therapy were included from January 2016 to June 2019. Serum HPA analysis was performed with a commercially available human ELISA kit. Logistic regression models were used to test for association. Results Serum HPA levels were significantly higher in patients with LA/LAA thrombus than in those without LA/LAA thrombus (270.8 [193.4 +/- 353.2] pg/mL vs 150.3 [125.2 +/- 208.4] pg/mL; P < 0.001). In multivariate analysis, serum HPA remained a significantly independent predictor of LA/LAA thrombus (odds ratio 1.674, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.339-2.289, P < 0.001). In the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, HPA showed a predictive value with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.757 (95% CI 0.652-0.810, P < 0.001). The optimal cutoff level for HPA predicting LA/LAA thrombus was 210.7 pg/mL, with a sensitivity of 74.3% and a specificity of 64.8%. Conclusion An elevated HPA level was associated with the presence of LA/LAA thrombus in patients with AF. HPA might portend the risk for the prothrombotic state in AF patients.

Madendere, Serdar; Deger, Muslim Dogan; Demirkiran, Engin Denizhan; Yildiz, Huseyin Alperen
Objective: To investigate the role, interest, and competence of the Turkish urologists for urologic surgeries which are also performed by the other surgeons. Materials and Methods: We conducted a 22-item online survey and invited urologists by e-mail. Questions were asked to evaluate the attitudes, performances, and capabilities of the urologists in surgeries which could be performed by the other surgeons. Results: A total of 305 responses were evaluated. The female incontinence surgery, pediatric urologic surgery, and adrenal surgery are mostly performed by the urologists in their hospitals. Turkish urologists mostly do not perform the following surgeries and interventions themselves and refer patients to the other surgeons for a percutaneous nephrostomy (47.2%), urinary diversions using the intestinal segments (44.9%), kidney transplantation (11.8%), and the transgender surgeries (7.2%). Almost half of the urologists do not perform adrenal surgeries (50.2%). Most urologists agree that they should be the main surgeons for all these surgeries. Conclusion: Urologists are no longer the main surgeons for some surgeries which are included on the urologic curriculum. Many urologists avoid performing the major urologic surgeries. In the present study, four different ice creams were produced using cow, buffalo, goat, and sheep milk. The physicochemical, sensory properties and aroma profile analyzes of ice creams were carried out and the differences were evaluated. Dry matter rates of cow ice cream (CIC), goat ice cream (GIC), sheep ice cream (SIC) and buffalo ice cream (BIC) ranged from 27.96% to 30.51% and SIC had the highest content of dry matter (30.51%). Ash values of ice creams were determined between 0.61% and 0.75%. Titra-table acidity values varied between 0.11% and 0.18%. pH values of ice creams ranged from 6.49 to 7.04. Fat values of ice creams were determined between 4.05 (g/100g) and 5.10 (g/100g). The lowest overrun value (20.61%) was determined in SIC. The highest first dripping time (1980 s) and complete melting time (5970 s) were found in GIC. A total of 41 aroma compounds were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and the BIC was the most aromatic product containing 36 aroma compounds. After the BIC, 15, 13 and 8 aroma compounds were detected in CIC, GIC and SIC, respectively. Additionally, aroma compounds 2-hexanone, 2-heptanone, limonene, 2-nonanone, 2-undecanone, 2-tridecanone, 2-pentadecanone were detected in all ice cream types. To evaluate the correlations between the aroma compounds, the principal component analysis (PCA) method was applied to ice cream samples and a strong positive relation was detected between CIC and GIC. In terms of sensory analysis, general acceptability properties were not statistically different (p>0.05) between all ice creams. SIC had the lowest flavor score and CIC had the highest one as sensory property.
