İncele - Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Current Status of Forage Crops Cultivation and Strategies for the Future in Turkey: A Review
Tan, Mustafa; Yolcu, Halil
Forage crops cultivation area in Turkey is 2.312 million ha in 2020. The rate of forage cultivation in the total agricultural area is 6.1%, and its rate in the field land is 12.3%. Lucerne, silage corn, oat, vetch, and sainfoin are main forage crops in Turkey. The amount of produced is 16.8 million tons of hay and 48.8 thousand tons of seeds. The forage crop cultivation areas have increased by 206% since the beginning of the 2000s due to the government subsidies. However, shortage of quality roughage is still a big problem for animal husbandry of the country. For this reason, new strategies should be developed to increase forage cultivation areas by considering global warming, drought, and climate change. In order to meet the need for roughage, it is necessary to expand the cultivation area of forage crops as winter catch crops and second crops. In addition, some of the fallow fields should be utilized by growing drought-resistant forage species. The fields abandoned due to different problems should be used for the cultivation of suitable forage crops.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2021On fourth order accuracy stable difference scheme for a multi-point overdetermined elliptic problem
Ashyralyyev, C.; Akyuz, G.
In this paper fourth order of accuracy difference scheme for approximate solution of a multi-point elliptic overdetermined problem in a Hilbert space is proposed. The existence and uniqueness of the solution of the difference scheme are obtained by using the functional operator approach. Stability, almost coercive stability, and coercive stability estimates for the solution of difference scheme are established. These theoretical results can be applied to construct a stable highly accurate difference scheme for approximate solution of multi point overdetermined boundary value problem for multidimensional elliptic partial differential equations.

- MakaleYalnız künye2021Scopus SJRQ3The simple right ventricle contraction pressure index: A novel method for echocardiographic assessment of right ventricle dysfunction in acute pulmonary embolism
Acar, Emrah; Ozgul, Neryan; Izci, Servet
Purpose The simple right ventricular contraction pressure index (sRVCPI) is a new echocardiographic variable for estimating the right ventricular systolic function. Our aim was to investigate the association between the sRVCPI, the pulmonary embolism severity index (PESI), and mortality rate in acute pulmonary embolism (APE). Methods We included in this study 116 patients diagnosed with APE by pulmonary computed tomography angiography or ventilation/perfusion scintigraphy. They were divided into two groups based on the simplified PESI < or >1. Tricuspid regurgitation velocity and TAPSE were measured and used for sRVCPI calculation. Results Mortality was higher in patients with a higher sRVCPI (P < .001). In receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis using a cut-off level of 312.8 mm Hg mm, sRVCPI predicted mortality with a sensitivity of 86.8% and specificity of 69.5% (ROC area under curve: 0.712; 95%CI 0.597-0.882; P < .001). The sRVCPI was lower in the sPESI >1 than in the sPESI <1 group (364.3 +/- 31.9 vs 511.6 +/- 26.1; P < .001). There was an inverse correlation between sRVCPI and the sPESI score (-0.784; P < .001). Conclusion The sRVCPI correlated with the sPESI score and was associated with mortality in patients with APE. This easily measurable variable may be used to predict short-term mortality in APE patients.

Introduction: Mechanical obstruction is the most common form of nasal obstruction. Among the types of mechanical obstructions, septum deviation and inferior turbinate hypertrophy are the most prevalent. Objective: This study evaluated the early clinical outcomes of inferior turbinate radiofrequency and inferior turbinate lateralization combined with septoplasty in the treatment of nasal obstruction symptoms. Methods: The research retrospectively evaluated data from 33 patients (24 male, nine female) undergoing septoplasty and inferior turbinate radiofrequency (RF group) and 32 patients (24 male, eight female) treated with septoplasty and inferior turbinate lateralization (LAT group), who were admitted, with complaints of nasal obstruction, to the University of Health Sciences, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, between January 1, 2017 and January 1, 2018. The patients' preoperative and 6-month postoperative symptoms were evaluated via the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation, the NOSE scale. Results: The mean preoperative NOSE scores were 10.3 +/- 4.2 in the RF group and 10.9 +/- 4.9 in the LAT group, and the mean six-month postoperative scores were 1.09 +/- 1.3 in the RF group and 1.2 +/- 1.3 in the LAT group. There was no significant difference in NOSE scores between the two groups (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The data obtained in this study show that both methods result in similar outcomes in terms of relieving nasal obstruction symptoms in patients requiring inferior turbinate intervention. Therefore, the researchers believe that, in each case, the intervention method should be selected at the discretion of the patient and surgeon(s). - MakaleAçık Erişim2021The investigation of mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber-reinforced composites produced with the use of alternative wastes
Külekçi, Gokhan; Çullu, Mustafa
Various studies on the disposal or storage of the wastes generated due to mining activities have been carried out until today. With the developing technology, the use of alternative products instead of aggregates in Composite and the effect of fiber addition were investigated. The most common of these studies is the bending strength tests on the beam sample. In this study, solid wastes generated by mining operations were used instead of aggregate used in Composite. Beam samples were poured with the dimensions of 40x40x160 mm by adding 4-6 kg/m(3) polypropylene fiber to the mixture obtained by using these solid wastes; then, its effects on ultrasonic pulse velocity test, tensile test, and compressive strength tests were conducted. According to the results of these tests, it was found that the fibers had a positive effect on compressive strength and bending strength. Also, it was found that water absorption rates and densities did not have an effect, while the ultrasonic pulse velocity decreased with increasing fiber content.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2021Scopus SJRQ3Investigation of fly ash added light concretes with respect to gamma radiation transmission properties of 133Ba and 137Cs
Külekçi, Gokhan
With the help of the developing concrete technology, light concrete and fly ash may be used in several concrete-related fields. To provide protection from radiation, which is one of the current problems of the world, several researchers have used fly ash, but very few researchers have worked on light concrete. To be protected from the effects of radiation, researchers have examined gamma radiation absorption properties by using heavy concrete and heavy aggregates. In this study, by using Class C fly ash at the doses of 30-50-100% instead of cement, three different light concretes were prepared. Density and compressive strength experiments were conducted on the composite blocks prepared with dimensions of 50*50*50 mm, and linear absorption coefficients (cm(-1)), mass attenuation coefficients (MAC) and Tenth value layer (TVL) radiation interaction parameters were measured. Radiation interaction parameters were obtained using an HP Ge gamma detector. For radiation measurements, four different photon energies as 583 keV (Ba-133), 609 keV (Ba-133), 661 keV (Cs-137) and 911 keV (Ba-133) were used. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that compressive strength decreased as the fly ash content increased, the lowest compressive strength values were obtained in the samples containing 100% fly ash among the prepared composites, and density increased as the fly ash content decreased. It was observed that, in the prepared composites, as the energy levels increased, the linear absorption coefficients also increased, and the samples containing 30% fly ash provided the best TVL value on the energy level of 911 keV. With this study, it was revealed that fly ashes that are used in many fields could be used as a radiation shield. Additionally, with this study, due to not using heavy aggregates and due to the production of light concrete in the production of radiation shields, the cost of shield production will significantly decrease.

- MakaleYalnız künye2021THE EVALUATION OF SOME FACTORS AFFECTING THE QUALITY OF RAW MATERIALS IN MICRO-SCALED FOREST INDUSTRY ENTERPRISES
Komut, Osman
Forest industry enterprises that process round industrial wood are the biggest consumers of the forestry sector. In this study, micro-scale forest industry enterprises that process round industrial wood are investigated. Questionnaires based on face-to-face interviews were utilized as a data collection tool. The raw material storage areas of 48 enterprises, visited during the study, were subjected to direct observation and examination in terms of storage methods, conditions and damages in logs. The ratio of the enterprises participating in the total number of enterprises in the study area occurred as 64%. The relationships between the defined variables were analyzed with the Chi-square independence test. The analysis of variance was used to determine the relationship between independent variables. The results showed that raw material supply methods of enterprises differ, and they vary as the enterprise size grows. The annual average revenue was a variable that caused statically significant differentiation (p<0.05) in the raw material supply methods between enterprises. The results proved that the supply of raw materials with the stumpage sale method increased the risk of bark beetle damage in logs. Improper storage methods and conditions were identified as causes of significant blue discoloration damage in coniferous tree logs.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Scopus SJRQ3THE ROLE OF GENDER IN THE INVESTIGATION AT REGIONAL LEVEL FOR TURKEY
Çelik, Orkun; Erer, Elif
We aim to explore the role of gender in the government expenditure and unemployment nexus at regional level for Turkey. For this aim, we use the dataset covering the period 2004-2019 for 26 NUTS-2 regions in Turkey and employ a panel ARDL approach. The obtained empirical findings show that government expenditure and gross domestic product per capita provide overall, female, and male unemployment rates to diminish in the long term, which means the Keynesian approach is valid on the long term. Nevertheless, on the short term, government expenditure induces rises in the male and female unemployment rates. This result indicates the validation of the Abrams Curve Hypotesis in male and female unemployment rates on the short term. Also, inflation rate increases overall and male unemployment rate on the long term, but having significant and positive impact on only female unemployment rate on the short term. All these findings show that gender has a significant role in this nexus. The expected contribution of this study to literature is to investigate the impact of government expenditure on unemployment by gender at regional level for Turkey. We are of opinion that our empirical findings can guide policy makers in active plans fighting unemployment.
