The Diagnostic Value of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) and signal peptide-CUB-EGF domain-containing protein-1 (SCUBE-1) in an Experimental Model of Strangulated Mechanical Bowel Obstruction

Cekic, Arif Burak; Ozgen, Cekic Gonenc; Aygun, Ali; Pasli, Sinan; Ozer Yaman, Serap; Karahan Caner, Suleyman; Turedi, Suleyman; Acar, Sami; Tatli, Ozgur; Yulug, Esin

Background Mechanical bowel obstruction (MBO) is one of the principal pathologies requiring emergency surgery and a significant worldwide cause of morbidity. The identification of patients in whom bowel obstruction resolves spontaneously is important in terms of preventing unnecessary surgical interventions and future potential adhesions. The decision-making process is difficult in patients presenting without classic examination findings. Methods 36 female Sprague-Dawley rats randomly divided into six experimental groups. In Group 1, 3 and 5, laparotomy was performed, with blood and tissue specimens being collected after 1, 2 and 6 h, respectively. In Group 2, 4 and 6, the ileum segment was ligated following laparotomy, and blood and tissue specimens were collected after 1, 2 and 6 h, respectively. The ileum specimens were examined macroscopically, after which 1-cm sections were taken and examined in terms of histopathological changes. IMA and SCUBE-1 levels were determined for each group, and macro- and microscopic tissue examination findings were compared between the groups. Results Comparison within the groups exposed to waiting times of 1 h (groups 1 and 2), 2 h (groups 3 and 4) and 6 h (groups 5 and 6) revealed higher mean IMA and SCUBE-1 levels in rats undergoing ligation together with incision (groups 2, 4, and 6) compared to those undergoing laparotomy only (groups 1, 3, and 5). Correlation analysis was applied to determine the relationship between total scores obtained from histopathological examination and IMA and SCUBE-1 values. The analysis revealed strong, significant and positive correlation between histopathological examination scores and IMA (r=0.643, p=0.000) and SCUBE-1 (r=0.509, p=0.002) values. Conclusion The study findings showed that both IMA and SCUBE-1 values increased in a strangulated MBO model in rats. We think that IMA and SCUBE-1 values can be used as a markers of damage in the early period in strangulated MBO, and that the patient's surgery requirement can thus be determined in the early period.

Purpose: Visual feedback and music while warm up may help elicit peak performance, but its effect during the Wingate anaerobic test (WAnT) in futsal players is unexplored. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effects of music and visual stimulus on WAnT performance in futsal players. Methods: The study included 17 young male futsal players (age, 21.53 +/- 1.32 years; height, 177.59 +/- 5.75 cm; 73.71 +/- 9.31 kg; BMI 23.342 +/- .47). The WAnT was administered using three distinct protocols: with music (M), without music (NM), and with music and visual feedback (MV) following a 10-min warm-up at 72-h intervals. After WAnT, the following parameters were evaluated: (a) peak power output: PPO (W), (b) relative peak power output: RPPO (W/kg), (c) mean power output: MPO (W), (d) relative mean power output: RMPO (W/kg), (e) fatigue index: FI (%), and (f) minimum power output MIPO (W). Results: MV indicated that futsal players' WAnT values, including PPO, RPPO, MPO, RMPO, and MIPO improved more than with other protocols (p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between protocols for FI (%) WAnT values (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Listening to music and watching visual feedback while warm up before performing WAnT performance suggest to coaches and futsal players.

Magmatic, tectonic and metallogenic evolution of the Eastern Pontides, Turkey: a protracted or discrete construction of the crustal fertility?

Turlin, Francois; Moritz, Robert; Sönmez, Safak Utku; Keskin, Serdar; Karsli, Orhan; Aydin, Faruk; Ulyanov, Alexey; Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Christie, AB

Even though mechanisms of crustal growth and differentiation are well known, the spatial and temporal evolution of the composition of the continental crust remains poorly constrained, even more when considering the metal budget in mountain belts. In this study, we use the Eastern Pontides, NE Turkey, as a natural laboratory to decipher the role of successive tectono-magmatic events during the buildup of the continental crust fertility. This area is a Gondwana-derived terrane that accreted to the Eurasian margin. It underwent successive orogenic phases associated with the closure of the Paleo- and Neotethys oceans, and lastly the Alpine orogeny. It hosts abundant volcanogenic massive sulfide, porphyry and epithermal deposits, mostly formed in the latest stages of arc construction. These features relative to the buildup of metal fertility in this continental crust raise questions such as were the physico-chemical conditions during the early sterile history of the Eastern Pontides unfavorable to form ore deposits or were the metals progressively concentrated in the crust during successive orogenic events? We will use whole-rock geochemistry, U-Pb zircon dating, and Hf-O isotopic and trace element compositions of magmatic zircons to constrain the construction of the continental crust in the Eastern Pontides, and its metal fertility through time.

Eken, Oezguer; Yagin, Fatma Hilal; Eken, Ismihan; Gabrys, Tomasz; Knappova, Vera; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Akyildiz, Zeki; Nobari, Hadi

Performance is judged using a variety of methods to ensure uniformity between competitions. Uchikomi Fitness Test (UFT) could accomplished between morning qualifying and evening finals. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of different warm-up protocols on UFT at different times of the day in female judokas. Ten volunteer women who had been practising judo on a regular basis for more than 5 years and actively competed in international tournaments took part in this study. Judokas completed UFT, either after no-warm-up (NWU), specific warm-up (SWU), and linear+lateral warm-up (FWU) protocols for two times a day in the morning: 09:00-11:00 and in the evening: 16:00-18:00, on non-consecutive days. In conclusion, there was a significant increase in UFT scores (F = 9.89; p = 0.002), a + b (F = 4.42; p = 0.04) and heart rate (F = 28.99; p < 0.001) in the early evening compared to the morning. Increases in UFT performance were observed in the SWU protocol compared to the NWU and FWU protocols (p < 0.05). However, the interaction between time of day and warm protocol was not significant (p > 0.05). The UFT performance revealed diurnal variation, and the judokas' performances may be favourably affected more in the late hours, particularly following SWU procedures.

The associations between metacognition problems, childhood trauma and internalizing symptoms in healthcare workers working directly with patients infected with COVID-19

Sen Demirdogen, Ezgi; Algedik, Pinar; Warikoo, Nishchint; Bahadir, Erdi; Akbiyik, Meral; Büyüktarakçi, Seda; Kadak, Muhammed Tayyip; Yavuz, Mesut

Healthcare workers (HCWs) providing medical support while facing one of the highest levels of adverse and potentially fatal outcomes due to COVID-19 are put in a vulnerable position leading to the development of mental health problems. The development of any prevention and intervention programs to reduce this risk is possible with better understanding and knowledge of possible vulnerability factors. The aim of the present study is to investigate psychological effect of working directly with patients infected with COVID-19 (WD) and possible individual vulnerability factors for the development of psychological problems in HCWs. The data used in this cross-sectional study were collected using online self-reported questionnaires from 290 HCWs aged 21-61 years old. The mean score of the scales of 145 HCWs-WD and 145 HCWs not WD (HCWs-NWD) were compared by independent sample t test. Associations between childhood traumas, metacognitive dysfunctional beliefs and internalizing symptoms were analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM). The depression, anxiety, stress symptoms levels, somatization and sleep problem levels were found to be higher in HCWs-WD compared to HCWs-NWD. SEM revealed that childhood trauma levels was associated with the increased risk of internalizing problems, and metacognitive dysfunctional beliefs had a partial mediator role between childhood traumas and internalizing symptoms in HCWs-WD. Improving metacognitive abilities may hence need to be considered in prevention programs for the HCWs. The findings can also be used to set up further research on the specific interventions on the HCWs who are at a risk as their profession entails them being in such traumatic situations.

Cirik, Vildan Apaydin; Bulut, Elif; Aksoy, Bahar; Coemert, Hatice Sonay Yalcin; Pate, Joshua W.

Background and purpose: Pain experiences in childhood are very likely to be reflected in adulthood. The early evaluation of the concept of pain in children may eventually lead to.better patient outcomes in the future. Therefore, we aimed to culturally and developmentally adapt the Concept of Pain Inventory for Children (COPI) for Turkish children. Methods: This descriptive, correlational study was conducted with 239 post-operative children aged 8-12 years between June and December 2021. The research adhered to COSMIN guidelines. The data were collected using a descriptive information form and the COPI. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and item-total score analysis were used for the data analysis. Results: The resulting unidimensional scale consists of 12 items in Turkish. The scale explained 65% of the total variance. The exploratory factor analysis showed that the factor loadings of items ranged from 0.64 to 0.91. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the factor loadings of items ranged from 0.66 to 0.92. Goodness of fit indexes were found to be as follows: Normed Fit Index >0.90; Incremental Fit Index >0.90; Comparative Fit Index >0.90; and the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation <0.08. The total Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.78 (reliable). Conclusions: The 12-item Turkish translation of the COPI was deemed valid and reliable in 8-12-year-old children in a post-operative setting. Practice implications: Evaluation of children's pain concepts during childhood may contribute to the identification of conceptual gaps for pain science education.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. Submodule Based MPPT with Synchronous Buck Converter Under Dynamic Partial Shading Conditions

    Basoglu, Mustafa Engin

In order to obtain more power from photovoltaic (PV) modules under mismatching operating conditions, the submodule-based MPPT technique is an important solution. In this technique, since the power-voltage (P-V) curve of a submodule cannot be multi-peaked, the maximum power point (MPP) tracking (MPPT) is easily achieved through a DC-DC converter connected to each submodule. Since the P-V curve cannot be in a multi-peaked form, the maximum power can be obtained with a simple MPPT algorithm. For this reason, perturb & observe (P&O) algorithm can be chosen. In this study, the behaviour of a submodule-based MPPT with synchronous buck converter (SBC) is investigated for dynamic shading conditions. In addition, submodule-based MPPT and module-based MPPT technique were compared and the comparison was confirmed by simulation studies that submodule-based MPPT performed better. In this context, simulation studies were carried out for different shading conditions. According to the simulation results, the submodule- based MPPT approach achieves greater efficiencies to the module-based MPPT. In some simulations, when the module-based MPPT technique is used, the operation at the local MPP has been realized. In such cases, more advanced algorithms are needed. However, a simple algorithm is sufficient in submodule-based MPPT. The only disadvantage of this MPPT is the high hardware cost. However, the increase in efficiency obtained is at a level that can easily tolerate this cost.

Causality linkages between income inequality and financial globalization for G7 countries

    Çelik, Orkun

The main aim of this study is to evaluate the causality linkages between income inequality and financial glo- balization for G7 countries over the period 1970-2015. The bootstrap panel Granger causality analysis by Kónya (2006) is used. The empirical results indicate that there is a causality linkage between income inequality and fi- nancial globalization in most of the G7 countries. Furthermore, it is shown that income tax has a significant role on the causality linkage. Hence, in order to reduce income inequality, policy makers should apply high taxes on top income, using fiscal policy instruments.

Optimum passive tuned mass damper systems for main structures under harmonic excitation

    Araz, Onur

To increase the effectiveness and robustness of a single Tuned mass damper (TMD), TMDs are connected in series or parallel to the main system. Unlike parallel TMDs (PTMD), series TMDs (STMD) consist of only two different TMD units, each of which is connected to the main structure in series. The optimum parameters of series and parallel TMDs are obtained by using the simulated annealing (SA) algorithm in this study. It is aimed to minimize the displacement in the main system in obtaining the optimum parameters. Also, the explicit formulas that can be easily used for the optimum design of both TMD devices are derived using the curve-fitting technique. The control performance of the optimum STMD device is confirmed through numerical analyses and compared with classical TMD and PTMD.

A Critical Study of Juynboll Approach to al-Mutawātir

    Khan, Alam

This study focuses on the subject of al-mutawātir in G. H. A. Juynboll’s works. He questioned the authenticity of the al-mutawātir term as well as the applied examples of al-mutawātir al-lafzī and al-manawī. It is revealed from a keen follow-up of Juynboll’s claims that his conclusion based on the argumentum e silentio, which is proved feeble because we could not access all written sources of the early ages. Besides, it is concluded that Juynboll did not distinguish among the methodology of muhaddithūn and fuqahā’a in the use of the term al-mutawātir. Furthermore, it is proved from the analysis of Juynboll claims about al-mutawātir al-lafzī and al-manawī that Juynboll neglected the historical facts and the early sources of hadīth like al-‘Jāmi of Ibn Wahab and Mamar b. Rāshid. Likewise, it is concluded from a detailed study of Juynboll’s claims that he did not follow one method in the study of isnāds. Consequently, he called some isnāds Iraqis and Syrians that having one narrator from the mentioned regions.

Hexarotor Longitudinal Flight Control with Deep Neural Network, PID Algorithm and Morphing

    Oktay, Tugrul; Kose, Oguz

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have become an integral part of life, from military operations to entertainment. With this popularity, the interest of researchers on these UAVs has gradually increased. The use of UAVs in many areas and the researches carried out by researchers have revealed the limitations of these devices. At the beginning of these restrictions is the passage through the narrow space. In this study, longitudinal flight control of a hexarotor UAV is discussed with morphing. The limitation of this study is that it is difficult to estimate the moment of inertia and proportional integral derivative (PID) coefficient values according to the arm length, since there is a change in the hexarotor arm lengths with the morphing and the rigid body model changes accordingly. In this study, it is aimed to obtain these parameters with the Deep Neural Network(Artificial Neural Network(ANN) with two or more hidden layers) to overcome this problem. 15 drawings of hexarotor morphing states were drawn in Solidworks program. A training set was created by obtaining the PID coefficients for the longitudinal flight of these drawings from the Matlab/Simulink program. The training set was taught to the Deep Neural Network and moments of inertia and PID coefficients were obtained according to the arbitrarily estimated arm extension or shortening rates. In addition, the hexarotor dynamic model was derived according to the Newton-Euler approach and modeled using the state space model. The longitudinal flight of the hexarotor is simulated with the state space model. The moment of inertia and PID coefficients were estimated by Deep Neural Network according to the values determined by the program randomly together with the initial state. Simulations were made with these parameters and the results were given in graphics.

Pharmacy Duty Scheduling Problem: Gümüşhane Case

Şimşek, Ahmet Bahadır; Merdane, Seher; Belindir, Aydanur; Akbaş, Ayşenur

In the Turkish Healthcare System, pharmacies are an important echelon of the drug supply chain. The pharmacy on duty practice ensures that the demand for drugs and similar medical supplies is met 24/7. The duty pharmacy scheduling problem aims to satisfy the customers and the pharmacists without violating the regulations while determining the duty sequence of the pharmacies in a certain planning period. This study handles the duty pharmacy scheduling problem of Gümüşhane City Center where 13 pharmacies operate. In the current system, the representative pharmacist prepares the duty schedule manually. The planning period is divided into subsets, and pharmacies are assigned to the duties in each subset respectively in such the number of duties of each pharmacy in the subsets is as equal as possible. The managerial problem of the case is that the duty frequency of each pharmacy is variable in the manual schedule and pharmacists perceive this as an unfairness. Because pharmacists expect to be on duty 1 in 13 days. We propose a mathematical model that adopts the fixed duty frequency and the inheritance of duty distribution. We test the model according to the 2020 calendar and compare model results with the real duty schedule belong to 2020 using the 2019 distribution of pharmacies. The comparison and test results show that the duties are distributed as fairly as possible and the turn of each pharmacy is repeated once every 13 days. The contribution of this study is that it introduces innovative components to the pharmacy duty scheduling problem, offers practical policy recommendations, and provides a case-specific example to limited PDS literature.

Effects of Cold and Hot Infusions on Antioxidant Activities of Rosehip Tea Bag

Akar, Zeynep; Orhan, Erza; Durmuş, Seçil

In this study, the antioxidant activity values of infusions at different temperatures of thecommercially sold rosehip tea bag. To determine the effect of different infusion temperatures onantioxidant activity, 7 different temperatures (0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90°C) also including coldinfusions temperatures were selected. Infusions of the rosehip tea bags were prepared with packageddrinking water for 5 minutes (recommended time in tea bag packaging) at these temperatures.Antioxidant activity values of the infused extracts were determined by antioxidant activitydetermination methods: TPC (Total Phenolic Compound), CUPRAC (Cu (II) Ion ReducingAntioxidant Capacity), FRAP (Iron (III) Ion Reducing Antioxidant Power) and ABTS•+(2.2-azinobis- (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)) radical scavenging assay. According to theresults obtained by the antioxidant determination methods, the highest and lowest activity valuesfor TPC, FRAP and ABTS were measured at 90°C and 0°C, respectively, and a positive correlationwas found between temperature and antioxidant activity values. Contrary to the activity valuesdetermined in these methods, in the CUPRAC method, the highest and the lowest activity value wasmeasured at 45°C and 90 °C, respectively. As determined in the CUPRAC method, infusions ofrosehip tea at low temperatures may provide an advantage in terms of the solubility of somephenolics that can be denatured at high temperatures. In addition, rosehip tea infusions at lowertemperatures will contribute to lower energy costs.
