- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ4A comparison of alternative curve fitting techniques for different earthquake fault parameters of Iranian earthquakes; [Comparación de técnicas de ajuste de curvas para diferentes parámetros de fallas en terremotos en Irán]
Öztürk, Serkan; Ghassemi, Mohammad R.; Sarı, Mahmut
In this study, we tried to estimate the optimum linear equations among the parameters associated with different earthquake fault mechanisms for Iranian earthquakes. For this purpose, we tested different curve fitting methods in order to present the most proper empirical relationships between several seismic parameters for different fault systems. In the present paper, 46 large and destructive Iranian earthquakes whose magnitudes change between 5.8 and 7.8 from 1900 to 2014 were used for the analyses. A comparison was made by using four types of curve fitting techniques. The estimation procedures are considered as (1) L2 or Least Squares Regression, (2) L1 or Least Sum of Absolute Deviations Regression, (3) Robust Regression and, (4) Orthogonal Regression. Confidence intervals were selected as 95% for all types of regression relationships. In the selection of the best probability distribution, we considered the correlation coefficients of the linear regressions as a powerful and conceptually simple method. Correlation coefficients of all relationships change between 0.299 and 0.986 with Orthogonal regression, between 0.168 and 0.792 with L1 regression, between 0.059 and 0.829 with Robust regression. For Iranian earthquakes, the most suitable and reliable empirical relationships between moment magnitude (Mw) and surface wave magnitude (Ms), Mw and surface rupture length (SRL), Mw and maximum displacement (MD), and SRL and MD were obtained by Orthogonal regression since it supplies stronger correlation coefficients than those of the other regression techniques in most estimates. The results show that estimated empirical relationships among the different fault parameters by using the Orthogonal regression method can be accepted as more up-to-date and more appropriate in comparison with the other regression norms. Consequently, these equations were suggested as more reliable in the estimation of the maximum surface displacement, maximum surface rupture length and associated with the maximum credible earthquakes for different areas of Iran. Furthermore, obtained relationships can be statistically significant for the assessment of seismic, tectonic and geologic activities, and they can be used to evaluate the rupture hazard of the Iranian Plateau.

Altun, Fatma; Şahin, Rıdvan; Güler, Coşkun
Probabilistic simplified neutrosophic set (PSNS) is an important tool to describe the vagueness existing in the real life. In this study, we define a PSNS and discuss some of theoretical set operations of PSNSs. Also we propose the concepts of module on PSNSs, as well as inner product and projection operator between two PSNSs. In relation to this new set, we introduce a probabilistic simplified neutrosophic number (PSNN). A PSNN has three components which is called probabilistic-valued truth membership degree, probabilistic-valued indeterminacy membership degree and probabilistic-valued falsity membership degree, respectively. We give some of algebraic operational rules, a score function and an accuracy function on PSNNs. Furthermore, we introduce two aggregation operators called the probabilistic simplified neutrosophic weighted arithmetic average operator and the probabilistic simplified weighted geometric average operator on PSNNs. Furthermore, we determine weights of criteria with a method that is based on fuzzy measure and develop a method based on preference function to determine weight of each decision maker. We present an extended PROMETHEE method based on PSNSs for group decision problems. Finally, as an application of this theory, we give a practice on a multi-criteria group decision making problem based on PSNNs by using extended PROMETHEE method to ensure stability of the proposed method.

In this study, 162 in situ measurements of 238U, 232Th, and 40K radionuclide concentrations dataset taken by the gamma-ray spectrometer in Gümüşhane, Turkey are presented. The gamma ray measurements were performed by a 512-channel, three-window gamma-ray spectrometry equipment made by GF Instruments. We first observed the radionuclides of the 238U,232Th, and 40K values in Gümüşhane. We then calculated the hazard indices of gamma radiation such as annual effective dose equivalent (AEDE), internal and external hazard index (Hin, Hex), and excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) based on the radionuclide abundances of 238U, 232Th, and 40K for the first time. In Gümüşhane, the average activity concentrations of radionuclides 238U, 232Th, and 40K were measured as 58.7 ± 34.3 Bq kg-1, 62.7 ± 37.2 Bq kg-1, and 1026.8 ± 486.0 Bq kg-1, respectively. The average outdoor annual effective dose equivalent and ELCR values were 132.2 ± 63.2 mSv yr-1 and 0.40 ± 0.19 × 10-3, respectively. Numerical results indicate that the radiological parameters (AEDE and ELCR) obtained for Gümüşhane Province were greater than the world’s mean values.

As the COVID-19 outbreak is rapidly spreading all over the world, it’s secondary consequences will negatively affect both societies and individuals. The target group, expected to be exposed to the secondary negative consequences most intensely during the pandemic process and afterward, is undoubtedly the healthcare professionals. In this research, the impact of the fear that healthcare professionals in Turkey developed against the outbreak of COVID-19 on their psychological adjustment skills is examined, and in this context, the mediating role of experiential avoidance and psychological resilience is examined. In this context, an answer was sought for the question “Does experiential avoidance and psychological resilience have a mediating role in the impact of COVID-19 fear on psychological adjustment skills of healthcare professionals?” The research was carried out with a total of 370 healthcare professionals reached via online data collection method. Structural equation modeling was used in the data analysis process, and as a result, it was determined that the fear of COVID-19 had a negative effect on the psychological adjustment in healthcare professionals; however, psychological resilience was found to have a protective function that limits this effect, and experiential avoidance has a risk factor that aggravates this effect. Findings obtained from the research are discussed in the context of the literature.

Enzymes which would be active in cold conditions can be used in a wide range of fields from molecular biology to detergent industry due to their low processing capacity and high activity. In this study, sixty cold-adapted bacteria were isolated from water and sludge samples collected from Erzurum and Van provinces. Identification of eight isolates by molecular [(GTG)5-PCR and 16S rRNA sequencing] techniques and tests for temperature (4-35°C), pH (3-11) and salt (2-15% (w/v) requirements were performed. These bacteria were belonging to Pseudomonas chlororaphis subsp. aureofaciens (SM011A), Psychrobacter faecalis (SM012D), Rahnella aquatilis (SM015A), Shewanella putrefaciens (SM018A), Pseudomonas lactis (SM0110A), Flavobacterium chryseum (SM0112E), Exiguobacterium mexicanum (SM0117A) and Glutamicibacter arilaitensis (SM0118A). The physicochemical requirements for all isolates ranged between 4-25°C, pH 5-7 and 2-15% salt (NaCl) concentration. However, E. mexicanum did not require salt in growth medium. All bacteria were evaluated for protease, lipase and amylase enzymes and all were found to be multiple enzyme producers. The eight isolates were identified from the resources of Turkey, for the first time and enzyme production abilities of some isolates to produce enzymes were declared. The originating of the producers of these enzymes from Turkey shows that Turkey has a remarkable reservoir for cold-adaptive microorganisms and these microorganisms will make important contributions to the detergent industry worldwide.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ3Determining the quality of life and the sleep quality in patients with benign prostate hyperplasia
Kulakaç, Nurşen; Sayılan, Aylin Aydın
Research question: How is the quality of life and quality of sleep affected in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia?. Research problem: The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life and quality of sleep in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and to identify the relationship between them. Nocturia is one of the main symptoms associated to BPH, causing significant sleep disturbances, including sleep interruptions. Such sleep interruptions may significantly impair quality of life. Literature review: The assessment of nocturia and its impact on quality of life and sleep quality in patients living with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) has been poor in terms of clinical research; moreover, there is a lack of specific methods to assess this impact. Methodology: The sample of this descriptive study consisted of all patients with the diagnosis of BPH who were admitted to the urology outpatient clinic of a state hospital in Turkey. The data were collected from 212 patients with BPH who accepted to participate in the study in January-June 2018. All patients gave consent prior to inclusion in the study. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale - Brief Form) were used as the principle data collection tools. Percentage, t test, correlation and one-way variance analysis test were used to evaluate the data. Results: The mean age of the patients was 67.50 ± 8.89 years and 63.2% of them were first diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia 2.13 years ago. The lowest and the highest average scores that the patients obtained from the WHOQOL-BREF were their social and environmental domains scores, respectively. In all, 20.2% of the patient were found to have poor sleep quality (global score ≥ 5). The results showed that there was a positive correlation between the mean scores of the sleep quality of the patients and their quality of life physical domain subscale. It was also found that there was a significant negative correlation between night urination and the sleep quality in BPH patients (P <.05). Conclusions: It was determined that low quality of life in BPH patients is associated with low sleep quality. Personal characteristics, frequent night urination and working status are important determinants of the relationship between quality of life and sleep quality.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ2The Mediator Role of Academic Resilience in the Relationship of Anxiety Sensitivity, Social and Adaptive Functioning, and School Refusal With School Attachment in High School Students
Seçer, İsmail; Ulaş, Sümeyye
School has an important function in providing the environment for young people to acquire many skills and knowledge required by contemporary life, but the problems of attachment to school and problematic attendance all over the world reveal an increasing statistic. It is thought that some negative processes such as anxiety sensitivity, social and adaptive functioning, and school refusal can affect this problem. On the other hand, it is considered that the academic resilience of young people has an important protective function in terms of these risk factors. For this purpose, the mediator role of academic resilience between anxiety sensitivity, social and adaptive functioning, and school refusal and school attachment were examined in a Turkish sample of 452 high school students. In the process of data collection, the school refusal assessment scale, social and adaptive functioning scale, and academic resilience scale were adapted and used in the Turkish culture. In the data analysis, the structural equation model was used to determine the direct and indirect predictive effects between the variables. The results of the study showed that academic resilience fully mediated the relationship between anxiety sensitivity and school attachment, whereas it partially mediated the relationship between social and adaptive functioning and school refusal and school attachment. Based on the results of the study, it was evaluated that high academic resilience has a strong protective function against the problems of negative school attachment and problematic school absenteeism among young people, and this finding was discussed within the context of literature.

Tekce, E.; Bayraktar, B.; Aksakal, V.; Dertli, E.; Kamiloğlu, A.; Çinar Topçu, K.; Kaya, H.; Takma, C.; Yasulergezer, N.
In the present study, the effects of Lactobacillus reuteri E81 (LRE) supplemented at different doses (200, 400 and 600 mg/kg) into the diets on performance, meat quality and internal organ weights of Japanese quail (Coturnixcoturnix japonica) were investigated under heat stress (HS) conditions (37°C). For the experiments, 448 one-day old quails were used. Seven days of training (physical exercise) and a 35-day fattening period were applied. On day 7 of the trial, 8 groups [4 under control temperature of 25°C (CT): control (C), LRE-200, LRE-400 and LRE-600 and 4 under HS: control (HSC), SLRE-200, SLRE-400 and SLRE-600] were formed, each group consisting of four replicates with 14 quail each. At the end of this study, the CT group fed 400 mg/kg LRE showed the best performance results, whereas no effect was found for groups under HS in comparison to the control group (HSC). Samples taken on the 21st and 42nd day revealed that addition of probiotics in the CT and HS groups induced no effect on weight of the internal organs (p > 0.05). Analysis of meat quality on the 21st day showed that LRE caused an increase in pH in both the HS and CT groups. Further, 400-mg/kg LRE supplementation induced an increase in thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the group under HS. In the CT groups on day 42 no effect of LRE was found on colour parameters or on the TBARS value, except for a decrease in the pH value in the LRE supplemented groups compared with the control. In HS groups a decrease in the L* value and an increase in the TBARS value was found compared to CT groups (p < 0.05), but there was no effect on other colour parameters or pH value. In conclusion, in the present study supplementation of different doses of LRE E81 to quail diets had no effect on performance, internal organ weight or meat quality under HS.

Ünlü, Ramazan; Namli, Ersin
From late 2019 to the present day, the coronavirus outbreak tragically affected the whole world and killed tens of thousands of people. Many countries have taken very stringent measures to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and are still being implemented. In this study, various machine learning techniques are implemented to predict possible confirmed cases and mortality numbers for the future. According to these models, we have tried to shed light on the future in terms of possible measures to be taken or updating the current measures. Support Vector Machines (SVM), Holt-Winters, Prophet, and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) forecasting models are applied to the novel COVID-19 dataset. According to the results, the Prophet model gives the lowest Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) score compared to the other three models. Besides, according to this model, a projection for the future COVID-19 predictions of Turkey has been drawn and aimed to shape the current measures against the coronavirus.

Acet, Tuba; Ozcan, Kadriye; Zengin, Gokhan
In the present study, we aimed to search and compare the biological activities of the ethanol (EtOH), methanol (MeOH), and ethylacetate (EtOAc) solvent extracts of the flower, stem, and root parts of two Helichrysum plants (H. chionophilum (Hc) and H. plicatum subsp. plicatum (Hp)). The antioxidant properties were determined by using (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) (DPPH) and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. The enzyme inhibitory effects of the extracts were investigated on butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), α-glucosidase, and α-amylase. Palmitic acid (C 16:0) was also determined as major fatty acids in the tested oils (31.21%–67.68%). In both plants, it was found that the EtOAc extracts of the flowers had a strong antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory effect. In conclusion, the results obtained in the present study showed that H. chionophilum and H. plicatum can be seen as a promising source for the natural bioactive compounds that can be used in therapeutic applications. Practical applications: The members of the genus Helichrysum have been widely taken for therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine as well as food. In this context, we investigated the chemical characterization and biological activities of two Helichrysum species extracts (H. chionophilum and H. plicatum subsp. plicatum). Antioxidant capacity, enzyme inhibition and anti-microbial effects were tested for biological activities. Chemical characterization was identified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (for phenolic) and gas chromatography-flame ioanization detector (GC-FID) (for fatty acids). Based on our findings, the species may be valuable for designing novel food products.

The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of the dietary use of different doses of Moringa oleifera essential oil (MOEO) on performance parameters, internal organ weights and meat quality in Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) exposed to Heat Stress (HS). For this purpose, 320 male day-old quail chicks were used. Seven days of preliminary (physical exercise) and a 35-day fattening period were applied. The animals were divided into 8 groups, each including 40 animals according to temparature (C: 25 °C and SC: 37 °C) and dietary doses (C, 200, 400 and 600). Each group was divided into 4 subgroups, each comprising 10 animals. The consequences of this study showed that, in the stress-free (HSF) groups, while all of the different doses of dietary MOEO positively affected growth performance, feed intake and feed efficiency, in the HS groups, similar positive effects were observed with the use of 200 ppm of dietary MOEO. While no effect was detected on internal organ weights on Days 21 and 42 in the HSF and HS groups, a dose-dependent increase was determined in the intestinal pH value on day 42 in the HS group (p <.05). Additionally, in the analysis of meat quality on the 21st and 42 days compared to the controls, no effect was observed on the meat colour parameters value and TBARS level in the HS and HSF groups. Based on the consequences of this study, it is considered that, MOEO could be used as an alternative product in poultry, at a dose of 200 ppm, to reduce the detrimental effects of HS.HIGHLIGHTS Temperature stress, performance parameters and serious problems in the health of poultry. Moringa olifera helps regulate performance parameters in poultry exposed to heat stress. Since the addition of Moringa oleifera to the diets does not affect the organ weight and meat quality in 21 and 42 days, it does not cause any negative effects for the consumer.

Ünker, Faruk
A special combined gyro-pendulum stabilizer (a gyroscope with coupling to a pendulum) mounted on a vibrating mass is considered for investigation of the vibration responses. This paper mainly focuses on the derivation of the frequency equations and on finding the required angular momentum for vibration control of the system. Besides, there is also an ANSYS simulation model of gyro-pendulum, which was built to verify the mathematical model. The dynamic responses of both that obtained from ANSYS simulation and that obtained from numerical solving of a Lagrangian mathematical model are analyzed comparatively. The angular momentum (ΩIp), in relation to the natural frequency (ωn) of the primary mass, shows that this vibration control device is more adaptable than other conventional ones by producing unidirectional thrust along the forcing excitation axis whilst the gyroscope is spinning.

This study investigated the effects of the addition of Lactobacillus reuteri E81 (LRE) into rations of chukar partridges (Alectoris chukar) fed under heat stress (HS) conditions on fattening performance and meat quality. This study included 256 chukar partridges aged 1 day. The study comprised an adaptation period of 7 days and a fattening period of 35 days and included 8 different groups with 32 animals in each group. Each group was further divided into four subgroups with eight animals in each subgroup. At the end of the study, the best results in terms of fattening performance in the non-HS groups were obtained in the LRE 600 ppm group and in the HS groups, SLRE 200 ppm had the best effect on average live weight and average live weight increase, whereas SLRE 400 ppm had the best effect on FCR (p<0.05). The analysis of the samples collected from chukar partridges on day 21 showed that, there was no effect on the colour parameters and Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) level in the LRE in the HS and non-HS groups, whereas the meat pH level decreased in the SLRE 400 ppm group (p<0.05). The analysis of the samples collected on day 42 showed that there was no effect on colour parameters in the HS and non-HS groups. TBARS level decreased at the dose of LRE 200 ppm in the non-HS group, and the meat pH level decreased in both HS and non-HS groups (p<0.05).

Sipahi, Ferkan; Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Sadiklar, Münür Burhan
Late Cretaceous felsic rocks are common in the eastern Pontides (NE Turkey). These rocks developed as an island arc from the Jurassic to the Miocene; they also host numerous volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits. The Late Cretaceous dacites that outcrop around Zigana Mountain (Gümüşhane, NE Turkey) were exposed to intensive hydrothermal alteration. Widespread hydrothermal alteration of Late Cretaceous dacite in Zigana Mountain has led to the formation of well-developed clay minerals. Their main alteration products are sericite, chlorite, and carbonates (ankerite and calcite). The clay minerals identified by X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis include illite, chlorite, small amounts of kaolinite, and smectite. The polytype of illite is 2M1. Illites formed as a result of hydrothermal alteration of feldspars; they are also Fe-and Mg-poor. Chlorite is characterized by decreasing Fe/(Fe+ Mg) ratio with increasing alteration grade and has a trioctahedral structure. Chlorite geothermometer calculations (100–300°C) reflect the activities of hydrothermal solutions. Chlorite forms in more alkaline conditions compared with illite, as its formation is associated with the presence of carbonates. Oxygen and hydrogen stable isotope values, K-Ar dating of illites, and textural and chemical evidence suggest that clays might have formed mainly by alteration of minerals in dacitic rocks with hydrothermal fluids of magmatic origin during the Campanian under acidic–weak alkaline conditions.

Matci, Dilek Kucuk; Comert, Resul; Avdan, Ugur
In this study, we compared the performance of tree-based classification algorithms – Random Forest (RF), Rotation Forest (RotF), J48, The Alternating Decision Tree (ADTree), Forest by Penalising Attributes (Forest PA), Logical Analysis of Data Algorithm (LADTree) and Functional Trees (FT) – for mapping burned forest areas within the Mediterranean region in Turkey. Object-based image analysis (OBIA) was performed to pan-sharpened the Landsat 8 images. Four different burned areas, namely Kumluca, Adrasan, Anamur, and Alanya, were used as study areas. Kumluca, Anamur, and Alanya regions were used as training areas, and Adrasan region was used as the test area. Obtained results were evaluated with confusion matrix and statistically significant analysis. According to the results, FT and RotF produced more accurate results than other algorithms. Also, the results obtained with these algorithms are statistically significant.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020AN EXTENDED ANALYSIS OF THE MODELS TO ESTIMATE PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULE TEMPERATURE
Ozden, Talat; Tolgay, Doga; Yakut, M. Samet; Akinoglu, Bulent G.
To estimate the performance of the photovoltaic power systems is the key issue in their techno-economic feasibility analysis. Performances, on the other hand, strongly depends on the module temperatures of the photovoltaic systems. In this study, we evaluated the performance of ten different module temperature estimation models using the measured outdoor data of five different modules. The modules are installed at the rooftop of a building located at Central Anatolia where the climate is cold and semi-arid. The results showed that the models having smaller number of parameters perform better than the others. We concluded that such analysis should be carried out at different ambient conditions so that the best performing models for the site can be obtained. Another outcome of the study is that the seasonal evaluation of the performance of the models should be carried out.
