Duran, Celal; Ozeken, Sengul Tugba; Seker, Serdal; Ozdes, Duygu
In the present research, a novel magnetic adsorbent was developed via the sol–gel method by coating CuFe2O4 nanoparticles on biochar sourced from brewed tea waste. The synthesized adsorbent was utilized for the removal of Ni(II) ions from aqueous media. The adsorption efficiency of Ni(II) ions was assessed under crucial experimental conditions such as initial solution pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, and initial Ni(II) concentration. The adsorbent exhibited rapid adsorption kinetics, achieving equilibrium in approximately 15 min, and maintained high efficiency across a wide pH range. Adsorption experiments were conducted for Ni(II) solutions at their natural pH (5.6) to minimize chemical usage and enhance process simplicity. An impressive maximum adsorption capacity of 232.6 mg g−1 was recorded, outperforming many previously reported adsorbents. Furthermore, desorption studies demonstrated nearly 100% recovery of Ni(II) ions using 1.0 M HCl solution, indicating excellent regeneration potential of the adsorbent. Additionally, the prediction performance of an artificial neural network (ANN) model was evaluated to predict Ni(II) removal efficiency based on experimental variables, showing strong agreement with experimental data. Isotherm and kinetic models were also applied to the data to estimate the adsorption mechanisms. These findings demonstrate the promise of CuFe2O4-modified tea waste biochar for sustainable water treatment applications.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2A Safe and Efficient Brain–Computer Interface Using Moving Object Trajectories and LED-Controlled Activation
Aydin, Sefa; Melek, Mesut; Gökrem, Levent
Nowadays, brain–computer interface (BCI) systems are frequently used to connect individuals who have lost their mobility with the outside world. These BCI systems enable individuals to control external devices using brain signals. However, these systems have certain disadvantages for users. This paper proposes a novel approach to minimize the disadvantages of visual stimuli on the eye health of system users in BCI systems employing visual evoked potential (VEP) and P300 methods. The approach employs moving objects with different trajectories instead of visual stimuli. It uses a light-emitting diode (LED) with a frequency of 7 Hz as a condition for the BCI system to be active. The LED is assigned to the system to prevent it from being triggered by any involuntary or independent eye movements of the user. Thus, the system user will be able to use a safe BCI system with a single visual stimulus that blinks on the side without needing to focus on any visual stimulus through moving balls. Data were recorded in two phases: when the LED was on and when the LED was off. The recorded data were processed using a Butterworth filter and the power spectral density (PSD) method. In the first classification phase, which was performed for the system to detect the LED in the background, the highest accuracy rate of 99.57% was achieved with the random forest (RF) classification algorithm. In the second classification phase, which involves classifying moving objects within the proposed approach, the highest accuracy rate of 97.89% and an information transfer rate (ITR) value of 36.75 (bits/min) were achieved using the RF classifier.

- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ2Evaluation of soil-structure resonance by determining local soil conditions in Gümüşhane city center
Altundaş, Suna; Tanış, Abdulsamed
Recent earthquakes have adversely affected human life, highlighting the necessity of identifying structural and ground conditions to assess risky areas and mitigate potential damage from future seismic events. Gümüşhane, the designated study area, is susceptible to the impacts of a possible earthquake due to its proximity to the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ). Accordingly, vertical electrical sounding (VES), multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW), and microtremor methods were employed in the central district of Gümüşhane to characterize local ground conditions and to evaluate the resonance hazard potential arising from the interaction between structures and the underlying soil. Dominant period (T0) and frequency (f0), spectral amplification (A0), soil index of vulnerability (Kg), average S wave velocity for 30 m depth (Vs30), ground type, and soil-structure resonance hazard potential were determined. For the study area, f0 values between 1.32–8.91 Hz (T0 values varied between 0.11–0.76 s), A0 values between 0.93–7.63 according to horizontal/vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) analysis, and Vs30 values were between 390–886 m/sec to MASW. As a result of the evaluation of microtremor measurements made in all buildings using the floor spectral ratio (FSR) technique, the soil-structure potential resonance hazard was found to be low. The present study, conducted in Gümüşhane, examined the subject of soil-structure interaction. In the process of planning new residential areas, it is imperative to ensure the reliability of construction based on the local ground conditions. Furthermore, it is essential to determine the risk status of buildings in relation to potential earthquake movements.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3New Numerical Solutions for Caputo–Fabrizio Fractional Differential Multidimensional Diffusion Problems
Şahin, Yasin; Merdan, Mehmet
This study examined the multidimensional fractional diffusion equations that characterize the density dynamics in a diffusing medium utilizing the exact and analytical Aboodh transform decomposition method (ATDM). The Caputo–Fabrizio (CF) derivative is utilized to account for the fractional derivative that is being employed here. The suggested method handles nonlinear terms by combining the Adomian decomposition method (ADM) with the Aboodh transform (AT) and Adomian polynomials. Since the AT can only be applied to linear equations, ADM is a helpful technique for estimating solutions to nonlinear differential equations. In nonlinear systems, multidimensional diffusion problems which account for the production of stripes in two-dimensional systems are important. Additionally, we used MATLAB to compute numerical and graphical data that illustrate how the close-form analytical solution compares to the precise solution. Promising and appropriate for addressing multidimensional diffusion problems with fractional derivatives are the obtained results. The key benefit is that our devised approach does not depend on presumptions or constraints on variables that skew the actual issue. Overcoming fluctuating constraints that can make it difficult to discover the answer and represent the problem depends much on this technique. In the domains of science and technology, the approach presented in this work offers exceptional computational accuracy and convenience of use for analyzing and resolving intricate phenomena associated with CF fractional nonlinear partial differential equations.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Multi-sensor data fusion based on the similarity measure and belief (Deng) entropy under neutrosophic evidence sets
Köseoğlu, Ali; Şahin, Rıdvan; Demir, Ümit
The Dempster–Shafer evidence theory is a very practical concept for handling uncertain information. The foundation of this theory lies in the basic probability assignment (BPA), which exclusively accounts for the degree of support attributed to focal elements (FEs). In this study, neutrosophic evidence sets (NESs) are defined to introduce additional probabilistic measures, aimed at addressing the uncertainty, imprecision, incompleteness, and inconsistency present in real-world information. The basic element of NESs is a neutrosophic basic probability assignment (NBPA), which consists of three components. The truth degree of FEs is represented by the first BPA, the second BPA represents the indeterminacy degree of FEs, and the last BPA characterizes the falsity degree of FEs. In NESs, each support degree of FEs is shown separately without any limitation. Therefore, the general concept of NESs is broader compared to traditional evidence sets and intuitionistic fuzzy evidence sets. Unlike the neutrosophic set (NS), the NBPA method assigns truth-support, uncertainty-support, and false-support degrees, as well as these support degrees, to single and multiple subsets in a discriminative framework. This paper aimed to develop some information measures for NESs, such as neutrosophic Deng entropy (NDE), neutrosophic cosine similarity measure, and neutrosophic Jousselme distance. Then, an improved method based on NDE and neutrosophic cosine similarity measure was established to combine contradictory evidence to increase the influence of reliable evidence on the one hand and to reduce the influence of unreliable evidence on the other hand. Finally, a case involving sensor data integration for target identification was studied to highlight the importance of these innovative ideas. The numerical example demonstrates that the proposed method provides more reliable and superior fusion performance compared to classical models, particularly in scenarios involving high conflict and uncertain information. However, the effectiveness of the method is partially influenced by the structure of the similarity matrix and the entropy parameters, which necessitates careful parameter tuning to achieve optimal results. These limitations are explicitly highlighted to serve as a guide for future improvements and broader applications of the method.

Konyalıgil Öztürk, Nurefşan; Kurtbeyoğlu, Emine; Atuk Kahraman, Tutku; Çiçek, Betül; Çınar, Salih Levent; Borlu, Murat
Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can be influenced by nutritional status and dietary habits. In particular, adherence to the Mediterranean diet, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, is increasingly being investigated in relation to disease severity and nutritional status. Aims: This case–control study, including 50 psoriatic patients and 40 healthy controls, aimed to examine the correlation between adherence to the Mediterranean diet and disease severity, nutritional status, and disease presence in patients with psoriasis. Methods: The clinical severity of psoriasis was assessed using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. Anthropometric measurements were taken, and body composition was determined using bioelectrical impedance analysis. All participants’ Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (PREDIMED) scores and 24-h food consumption records were evaluated. Results: The body weight (BW), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC), and fat mass (FM) values of psoriatic patients were found to be significantly higher than those of the healthy control group (p < 0.05). The PREDIMED score of psoriatic patients was found to be significantly lower than that of the control group (p < 0.001). A negative correlation was observed between the PREDIMED score and BW, FM, and HC (p < 0.05). PASI levels decreased as PREDIMED scores increased (r = −0.314, p = 0.048). According to logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for age and sex, the likelihood of being healthy was approximately 6.363 times higher in those with high adherence to the Mediterranean diet (p < 0.001). Conclusion: When psoriatic patients were compared with healthy controls, significant differences were observed in PREDIMED scores. Notably, greater adherence to the Mediterranean diet was associated with reduced disease severity, suggesting a potential mitigating effect even in the presence of obesity.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Analyzing the October 16, 2024 MW 5.9 Kale (Malatya) earthquake in relation to the February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake sequence and local tectonic dynamics
Senkaya, Mustafa; Alkan, Hamdi; Öztürk, Serkan; Büyüksaraç, Aydın
The 6 February 2023 Mw 7.7–7.6 Kahramanmaraş earthquake sequence has significantly impacted the East Anatolian Fault zone, including the city of Malatya and its immediate surroundings. In addition to the aftershocks of February 2023, the Mw 5.9 Kale earthquake that occurred on October 16, 2024, further underscores the ongoing seismic activity in the region. This study analyzes the distribution of b-values derived from a comprehensive dataset comprising 14,549 earthquakes and the Coulomb stress variations associated with the aftershocks of the February 2023 sequence and the Kale earthquake. The primary objective of this analysis is to enhance the understanding of the tectonic setting that contributed to the occurrence of the Kale earthquake. The findings indicate that the low b-values and stress transfer through the Pütürge segment toward the unnamed fault near Kale are significant contributing factors to the occurrence of the Kale earthquake. Additionally, positive stress variations from Doğanşehir to Malatya’s city center suggest a potential fault oriented toward the city center that may increase the current earthquake hazard. Furthermore, the distribution of seismic events around Malatya suggests a possible barrier supported by previous magnetic data analysis between Malatya and Kale. Lastly, the observed stress variations for the Kale earthquake indicate the likelihood of upcoming seismic events in both the northeast and southwest directions of the Kale.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Future Circular Collider Feasibility Study Report: Volume 1 Physics, Experiments, Detectors
Benedikt, M.; Zimmermann, F.; Auchmann, B.; Bartmann, W.; Burnet, J. P.; Carli, C.; Chancé, A.; Craievich, P.; Giovannozzi, M.; Grojean, C.
Volume 1 of the FCC Feasibility Report presents an overview of the physics case, experimental programme, and detector concepts for the Future Circular Collider (FCC). This volume outlines how FCC would address some of the most profound open questions in particle physics, from precision studies of the Higgs and EW bosons and of the top quark, to the exploration of physics beyond the Standard Model. The report reviews the experimental opportunities offered by the staged implementation of FCC, beginning with an electron-positron collider (FCC-ee), operating at several centre-of-mass energies, followed by a hadron collider (FCC-hh). Benchmark examples are given of the expected physics performance, in terms of precision and sensitivity to new phenomena, of each collider stage. Detector requirements and conceptual designs for FCC-ee experiments are discussed, as are the specific demands that the physics programme imposes on the accelerator in the domains of the calibration of the collision energy, and the interface region between the accelerator and the detector. The report also highlights advances in detector, software and computing technologies, as well as the theoretical tools/reconstruction techniques that will enable the precision measurements and discovery potential of the FCC experimental programme. The content and structure of this report are guided by the scope and priorities defined in the mandate of the FCC Feasibility Study. It is therefore not intended to serve as an exhaustive review of the full physics potential of FCC. Several topics, already covered in earlier reports such as the FCC CDR, are not reiterated here or are addressed only briefly, in alignment with the study's focus. This volume reflects the outcome of a global collaborative effort involving hundreds of scientists and institutions, aided by a dedicated community-building coordination, and provides a targeted assessment of the scientific opportunities and experimental foundations of the FCC programme.

Benedikt, M.; Zimmermann, F.; Auchmann, B.; Bartmann, W.; Burnet, J. P.; Carli, C.; Chancé, A.; Craievich, P.; Giovannozzi, M.; Grojean, C.
In response to the 2020 Update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, the Future Circular Collider (FCC) Feasibility Study was launched as an international collaboration hosted by CERN. This report describes the FCC integrated programme, which consists of two stages: an electron-positron collider (FCC-ee) in the first phase, serving as a high-luminosity Higgs, top, and electroweak factory; followed by a proton-proton collider (FCC-hh) at the energy frontier in the second phase. The FCC-ee is designed to operate at four key centre-of-mass energies: the Z pole, the WW pair production threshold, the ZH production peak, and the top/anti-top production threshold-each delivering the highest possible luminosities to four experiments. Over 15 years of operation, FCC-ee will produce more than 6 trillion Z bosons, 200 million WW pairs, nearly 3 million Higgs bosons, and 2 million top anti-top pairs. Precise energy calibration at the Z pole and WW threshold will be achieved through frequent resonant depolarisation of pilot bunches. The sequence of operation modes between the Z, WW, and ZH substages remains flexible. The FCC-hh will operate at a centre-of-mass energy of approximately 85 TeV-nearly an order of magnitude higher than the LHC-and is designed to deliver 5 to 10 times the integrated luminosity of the upcoming High-Luminosity LHC. Its mass reach for direct discovery extends to several tens of TeV. In addition to proton-proton collisions, the FCC-hh is capable of supporting ion-ion, ion-proton, and lepton-hadron collision modes. This second volume of the Feasibility Study Report presents the complete design of the FCC-ee collider, its operation and staging strategy, the full-energy booster and injector complex, required accelerator technologies, safety concepts, and technical infrastructure. It also includes the design of the FCC-hh hadron collider, development of high-field magnets, hadron injector options, and key technical systems for FCC-hh.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Real-world comparison of doxorubicin-ifosfamide versus gemcitabine-docetaxel regimens in metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma: a multicenter retrospective study
Tunbekici, Salih; Sahin, Gokhan; Yuksel, Haydar Cagatay; Acar, Caner; Akin, Imge; Aslanhan, Hasan; Isci, Mert; Kabaoglu, Ceren; Bal, Hamit; Sakin, Abdullah
BackgroundUterine leiomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive malignancy with limited responsiveness to standard therapies. We conducted a real-world, multicenter study to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of two commonly used first-line chemotherapy regimens-doxorubicin-ifosfamide and gemcitabine-docetaxel-in patients with metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma.MethodsThis retrospective cohort included 271 patients with advanced or metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma treated between 2010 and 2023 across 30 centers in Turkey. Patients received either doxorubicin-ifosfamide (n = 142) or gemcitabine-docetaxel (n = 129) as first-line therapy. The primary endpoint was overall survival; secondary endpoints included progression-free survival, objective response rate, disease control rate, and safety. Adverse events were graded according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 5.0, while survival outcomes were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and further analyzed with Cox proportional hazards models.ResultsMedian overall survival was 19.7 months with doxorubicin-ifosfamide and 20.2 months with gemcitabine-docetaxel (P = .26). Median progression-free survival was 5.5 months with doxorubicin-ifosfamide and 7.0 months with gemcitabine-docetaxel (P = .62). The objective response rate was numerically higher with gemcitabine-docetaxel (35% vs. 26%), although not statistically significant (P = .11). Grade 3-4 neutropenia (16% vs. 12%) and febrile neutropenia (7% vs. 6%) were more frequent with doxorubicin-ifosfamide.ConclusionsIn this largest-to-date real-world cohort of metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma, doxorubicin-ifosfamide and gemcitabine-docetaxel demonstrated comparable survival outcomes. Gemcitabine-docetaxel, however, was associated with a more favorable hematologic safety profile. These findings support the clinical utility of both regimens while underscoring the need for prospective, biomarker-driven studies to refine treatment selection and improve personalization in this rare malignancy.

The use of second-line treatments following progression on first-line atezolizumab and bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) for advanced HCC remains controversial. The aim of this study was to analyze the real-world clinical results of second-line treatments in progression after Atez/Bev and to determine the factors affecting prognosis. Materials and Methods: Fifty-eight patients treated with second-line sorafenib, regorafenib, and cabozantinib for progression after first-line Atez/Bev for advanced/metastatic HCC from 20 centers in T & uuml;rkiye between October 2020 and June 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. Responses were evaluated by Response criteria, specifically Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST v1.1) criteria. Median overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were computed with the Kaplan-Meier method. The Cox regression model was utilized to analyze multivariate analyses. Results: About 82.8% of the patients were male and the median age of the whole group was 62 (range, 18-78) years. All patients progressed after first-line Atez/Bev and were given second-line treatment. The most commonly used second-line treatment option was sorafenib (70.7%), followed by regorafenib (12.1%) and cabozantinib (10.3%). Both median PFS (4.1 months) and median OS (7.8 months) were longer in patients treated with sorafenib compared to other treatments. In univariate analyses, Child-Pugh score B, high alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels (>200 ng/mL), extrahepatic spread, and Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) < 47.6 substantially raised the risk of overall mortality. Multivariate analysis showed that extrahepatic spread (HR (Hazard ratio): 0.41, P = .012), PNI level (HR: 0.24, P = .005), and AFP level (HR:1.97, P = .049) were independent predictors of OS. Conclusion: Although second-line therapies after Atez/Bev show different degrees of efficacy, survival rates are consistent with the literature. Extrahepatic spread, AFP level, and PNI level are the main prognostic factors. In light of this information, personalized treatment strategies may improve outcomes for this challenging patient group.

Background/Objectives: In the REGOMA trial, regorafenib demonstrated an overall survival advantage over lomustine, and it has become a recommended treatment for recurrent glioblastoma in guidelines. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of regorafenib as a third-line treatment for patients with recurrent glioblastoma who progressed while taking bevacizumab-based therapy. Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study in Turkey included 65 patients treated between 2021 and 2023 across 19 oncology centers. The main inclusion criteria were histologically confirmed isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wildtype glioblastoma, progression after second-line bevacizumab-based treatment, and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status score of <= 2. Patients received regorafenib 160 mg once daily for the first 3 weeks of each 4-week cycle. Results: The median age of the patients was 53 years (18-67 years), with a median progression-free survival of 2.5 months (95% Confidence Interval: 2.23-2.75) and a median overall survival of 4.1 months (95% CI: 3.52-4.68). The median overall survival was improved in patients who received subsequent therapy after regorafenib treatment compared with those who did not (p = 0.022). Progression-free survival was longer in patients with ECOG 0-1 than in those with ECOG 2 (p = 0.042). The safety profile was consistent with that of the REGOMA trial, with no drug-related deaths observed. Conclusions: Regorafenib shows good efficacy and safety as a third-line treatment for recurrent glioblastoma after bevacizumab-based therapy. This study supports the use of regorafenib and emphasizes the need for further randomized studies to validate its role and optimize treatment strategies.
