High-intensity electric fields (EFs) are increasingly encountered in occupational and environmental settings, raising concerns regarding their potential biological effects on hormonally responsive organs. However, the cellular and molecular responses of female reproductive tissues to short-term exposure to high-voltage EFs remain insufficiently characterized. This study aims to investigate EF-associated histopathological and immunohistochemical alterations in major female reproductive organs. Forty adult female Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to five experimental groups (n = 8 per group): a control group (0 min) and four EF-exposed groups subjected to a nominal electric field intensity of 10 kV/m EF for 1, 5, 15, or 30 min using a custom-designed parallel-plate exposure system. The field intensity was verified at predefined measurement points within the exposure setup. Ovaries, uterus, and uterine tubes were examined using hematoxylin–eosin staining and semi-quantitative histopathological scoring. Immunohistochemical analyses were performed to evaluate the expression of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and osteonectin as markers of inflammation, angiogenesis, and extracellular matrix remodeling. Exposure to the electric field was associated with time-dependent histopathological alterations, including tissue edema, hemorrhage, epithelial degeneration, and leukocyte infiltration. The most pronounced ovarian and uterine changes were observed in the 30-min exposure group, whereas the uterine tubes exhibited comparatively milder structural alterations. Immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated increased TNF-α and VEGF expression in higher-exposure groups, suggesting activation of inflammatory and angiogenic pathways. Osteonectin expression was elevated in all examined reproductive tissues and was also detected in regions without overt morphological damage, indicating its potential sensitivity to early tissue stress responses associated with EF exposure. Significant correlations were observed between histopathological injury scores and immunohistochemical marker expression levels. Overall, short-term exposure to high-intensity electric field was associated with inflammatory signaling, angiogenic responses, and extracellular matrix remodeling in female reproductive tissues in this experimental model. These findings provide histological and immunohistochemical evidence of tissue responses to EF exposure and underscore the need for further studies incorporating comprehensive exposure characterization and additional molecular endpoints to better define potential reproductive health implications to high-voltage electric fields.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Machine learning-based multi-class classification of rock mass permeability using integrated geotechnical and geophysical parameters
Sari, Mahmut; Alemdag, Selcuk; Melek, Mesut; Seren, Aysel
In engineering applications, machine learning (ML) provides a promising approach when direct characterization of subsurface properties is challenging, time-consuming, and costly. This study developed a multi-class ML framework for classifying rock mass permeability based on Lugeon values using 86 observations from drilling and geophysical investigations at the Kırklartepe dam site in Bayburt, Türkiye. Seven predictors were considered: depth, Rock Quality Designation (RQD), joint frequency, Schmidt hammer hardness, P-wave velocity, S-wave velocity, and electrical resistivity. The observations were assigned to four permeability classes: very low, low, moderate, and high. Six classifiers were evaluated: Polynomial Kernel Support Vector Machine (P-SVM), Linear Discriminant Analysis, k-Nearest Neighbors (k-NN), AdaBoostM2, Bagged Trees, and Radial Basis Function SVM. Sequential Forward Feature Selection and Leave-One-Out Cross-Validation were used for feature selection and model evaluation, respectively. Robustness was further assessed using bootstrap confidence intervals, class-imbalance treatments, feature-selection stability, and learning curves. Among the baseline models, P-SVM using all seven predictors achieved the highest accuracy (79.07%), with a macro-F1 of 0.774 and the lowest Golden Distance (GD = 0.4372). When balanced class-wise performance was prioritized, k-NN with in-fold SMOTE achieved the lowest overall GD (0.4126) and a macro-F1 of 0.777. S-wave velocity and electrical resistivity were the most influential predictors. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the proposed framework effectively integrates geotechnical and geophysical data for rock mass permeability classification, providing a robust, data-driven decision-support approach that supports subsurface characterization and complements conventional permeability assessment in engineering applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Multi-scale greening dynamics in Türkiye’s Ecoregions (2001–2024): the effects of elevation and land cover on NDVI change tendencies
Işık, Fatih; Eraslan, Selim
Understanding vegetation dynamics in terrestrial ecosystems is critical under the pressures of global climate change and anthropogenic activities. This study analyzes vegetation dynamics from 2001 to 2024 in Türkiye’s 13 biodiverse terrestrial ecoregions using a multi-scale approach, focusing not only on the main drivers, but also on the interactive and context-specific role of these factors. Using the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform and MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data, integrated through a structured multi-scale framework, we applied statistical methods including the Mann–Kendall test, Kruskal–Wallis test, and LOESS curves optimized with leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV) to objectively model non-linear dynamics. The results revealed statistically significant positive NDVI change tendencies in all 13 terrestrial ecoregions (Mann–Kendall test, p < 0.05). Forest-dominated ecoregions exhibited the strongest greening, with Sen’s slope values reaching +0.0032 NDVI year⁻1 in the Euxine–Colchic Broadleaf Forests, whereas steppe ecosystems showed more moderate increases (e.g., Central Anatolian Steppe: + 0.0019 NDVI year⁻1). Across elevation gradients, the most consistent and strongest greening occurred at mid-elevations (500–1500 m; τ ≈ 0.40–0.65), while change tendencies weakened and became more heterogeneous at higher elevations. Land-cover-based analysis further showed that natural vegetation types exhibited the strongest nationwide tendencies (“Trees”: τ = 0.71; “Shrubland”: τ = 0.66), whereas anthropogenically influenced classes displayed weaker or regionally variable responses. Beyond documenting general greening patterns, the original contribution of this study lies in introducing a structured multi-scale framework that integrates long-term MODIS NDVI time series (2001–2024) with ecoregion, elevation, and land cover contexts. This approach enables the objective identification of ecosystem-specific and scale-dependent vegetation dynamics that cannot be captured by conventional single-scale or linear trend-based analyses commonly applied in previous studies in Türkiye.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Very fast Kolmogorov-Arnold network for landslide susceptibility prediction
Günen, Mehmet Akif; Tona, Aziz Uğur
Landslides represent critical geological events causing loss of life and property. Prediction of landslide susceptibility is essential for risk reduction and decision-making. XGBoost, LightGBM, NGBoost, CatBoost, MLP, and FastKAN were used to predict landslide susceptibility in Gümüşhane, Türkiye, a region with complex topographic and geological structures. 20 factors were used: 9 topographical, 3 hydrological, 4 climatic, 2 geological, and 2 environmental and infrastructure-related factors. Model performance was assessed using Accuracy, Precision, Recall, and F-Score, with SHAP analysis showing feature contributions. A multicollinearity analysis was used to determine the final feature set. Topographical variables (Aspect, Slope) showed lower impacts, while geological and environmental factors (Lithology, Distance to Fault) demonstrated moderate influence across models. For FastKAN, DEM, precipitation, and distance to fault were key factors, while for boosting methods, GHI, Tmax, and DEM were most significant. FastKAN achieved the highest performance under the internal pixel-wise evaluation scheme, with an accuracy of 96.54%, followed by XGBoost at 95.56%. McNemar’s statistical test showed no significant difference between NGBoost and MLP. Post-inventory landslide events observed in 2025 and 2026 were spatially consistent with high and very high susceptibility zones, providing a qualitative consistency check rather than rigorous independent quantitative validation.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026CropHealthNet: Potato Disease Detection Using Depthwise Separable Convolutional Neural Networks
Catal Reis, Hatice
Plant diseases are one of the primary factors that threaten food security, crop yields, harvesting, and sustainable production in the agricultural sector. In this context, early disease diagnosis is essential for enhancing agricultural productivity and reducing crop losses. In modern agricultural practices, machine learning-based approaches offer effective and innovative solutions for detecting and classifying plant diseases. These modern and innovative methods generally reach high accuracy rates with large-scale image datasets. In particular, deep learning algorithms have achieved significant success in modeling disease’s spread dynamics and detecting early disease symptoms. In this study, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based, lightly parallel deep learning model called CropHealthNet is proposed for classifying potato leaf diseases. The model is designed with special depthwise separable convolution-based convolution layers to reduce the computational cost of CNN. CropHealthNet is a low-parameter model suitable for real-time operation, capable of recognizing disease-specific patterns with high accuracy. CropHealthNet aims to achieve deep and comprehensive feature extraction through its parallel structure and varying channel numbers. The features from each parallel structure are combined at multiple levels, increasing the model’s ability to detect abstract and deep patterns. Moreover, the proposed model has extremely low computational complexity with only 0.47 million parameters and 0.59 GFLOPs, thus offering high efficiency compared to existing approaches. The effectiveness of the proposed model was evaluated using the PlantVillage Potato Dataset. Since the PlantVillage Potato Dataset has an unbalanced data distribution, the number of data for each class has been equalized using the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (SMOTE) to evaluate the model’s performance against data imbalance. The proposed model succeeded in achieving 99.30% and 99.50% accuracy rates in the tests conducted with unbalanced and balanced datasets, respectively. Experimental findings show that the proposed model generalizes well despite data imbalance and correctly classify diseases on potato leaves. Therefore, the model can demonstrate strong performance in agricultural practices and can detect plant diseases under real-world conditions.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Enhanced cationic dye adsorption using Stenotrophomonas indicatrix -modified MnFe2O4: performance evaluation and adsorption mechanism
Ozdes, Duygu; Dede, Alper; Turfan, Fatma Asya; Seker, Serdal
In this study, MnFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles were modified with the Stenotrophomonas indicatrix bacteria for the first time in the literature to develop an effective and novel bio-adsorbent for the remediation of toxic cationic dyes, specifically Rhodamine 6G (R6G) and Methylene Blue (MB), from contaminated aqueous media. MnFe2O4 and bacteria-loaded MnFe2O4 were thoroughly characterized using FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX analyses. XRD results confirmed that the cubic spinel structure of MnFe2O4 was preserved after bacterial modification, while FTIR spectra evidenced the successful incorporation of biological functional groups, including –NH, –OH, amide, and phosphate moieties, onto the nanoparticle surface. Adsorption performance of the dyes was evaluated in terms of parameters including aqueous solution pH, equilibrium time, bacteria-loaded MnFe2O4 dosage, and initial R6G and MB concentration. After investigating the effect of salt on adsorption efficiency, the applicability of the proposed adsorbent was assessed using real water samples. According to the experimental results, the optimum pH and equilibrium period for the uptake of both dyes were determined to be 8.0 and 60 min, respectively. Kinetic analyses showed that the pseudo-second order kinetic model exhibited a superior fit in representing the adsorption rates of both dyes, while isotherm studies indicated that both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models fit the experimental data well. While the adsorption capacities of pure MnFe2O4 for MB and R6G were 19.5 mg g− 1 and 15.3 mg g− 1, respectively, these values reached 67.6 mg g− 1 and 59.5 mg g− 1 for the bacteria-loaded MnFe2O4. The obtained data revealed that bacterial modification significantly increased the adsorption capacity of MnFe2O4, suggesting that the developed bio-adsorbent stands out as an effective and promising candidate for the remediation of dye-contaminated effluents.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026Synthesis, antioxidant, and antiurease activities of novel benzimidazole-based 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives
Gümrükçüoğlu, Taner İlker; Akgün, Hakan; Bektaş, Hakan; Sökmen, Bahar Bilgin; Menteşe, Emre
In this study, we report the synthesis and characterisation of five new benzimidazole-based 1, 3, 4-thiadiazole derivatives (5a–e) and the evaluation of their antioxidant and antiurease activities. The structures were confirmed by NMR (1H, 13C) and LC/TOF–MS analyses (spectra are given in the supplementary information). Biological assays (DPPH, ABTS, iron-reducing power, urease inhibition) revealed that compound 5e (bearing a 4-nitrophenyl substituent) exhibited the strongest urease inhibition (EC50 = 0.1296 ± 0.0260 µM), surpassing thiourea. One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in urease inhibition between the compounds (p<0.001). Post-hoc Tukey tests confirmed that compound 5e was more effective than several other compounds. The compounds exhibited moderate and comparable antioxidant activities. The first SAR study shows that electron-withdrawing substituents increase urease inhibition, whereas electron-donating groups increase the reducing power. Comparison with earlier reported triazole analogues shows scaffold-dependent changes in bioactivity. These findings support thiadiazoles as promising dual-function agents for oxidative stress and urease-associated pathologies.

Akay, Gamze; Koç, Elif Simay; Oğuzhan, Hatice
The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between post-traumatic stress, quality of life, and loneliness levels in adolescents following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. The research, designed as descriptive and correlational, was conducted with 701 children aged 13–18 who experienced the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş. Data were collected through a Demographic Information Form, the Child Post-Traumatic Stress Reaction Index, the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory, and the UCLA Loneliness Scale-Short Form. Ethical principles were adhered to throughout the study. Female adolescents were found to have higher levels of post-traumatic stress (t = 3.508, p < 0.001) and lower quality of life (t = 4.223, p < 0.001). The adolescents exhibited severe levels of post-traumatic stress (55.25 ± 13.80). It was determined that the mother’s education level (F = 4.423, p = 0.002), the father’s occupation (F = 2.859, p = 0.036), and perceived income level (F = 5.912, p = 0.003) significantly influenced adolescents’ loneliness levels. The father’s occupation (F = 3.403, p = 0.017) was found to have a significant effect on post-traumatic stress levels, and perceived income level (F = 4.753, p = 0.009) had a significant effect on quality of life. A moderate negative correlation was found between post-traumatic stress levels and quality of life (r = −0.474, p < 0.001), and a weak positive correlation was observed between post-traumatic stress and loneliness levels (r = 0.215, p < 0.001). A weak negative correlation was also found between quality of life and loneliness levels (r = −0.284, p < 0.001). A moderate negative correlation was found between adolescents’ post-traumatic stress levels and quality of life, while a weak positive correlation was observed between post-traumatic stress levels and loneliness. It is recommended to provide psychological support and guidance services aimed at reducing post-traumatic stress and loneliness levels in adolescents.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Purification of catalase enzyme from Thymus nummularius and examination of the effects of varying glucose concentrations on catalase activity
Toprak, Esma; Güleşci, Nuri
Catalase (EC 1.11.1.6), an antioxidant enzyme, breaks down reactive oxygen species, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), into water and oxygen. In this study, the partial purification of catalase was obtained from Thymus nummularius M. Bieb. through ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 precipitation, dialysis, and desalting/buffer exchange by using a PD-10 Sephadex G-25 M column. The isolated enzyme had a specific activity of 1294.45 U/mg protein and a purification fold of 7.80. The SDS-PAGE analysis indicated a molecular weight ranging between 37 and 50 kDa. The optimal pH and temperature for catalase activity were determined to be pH 8.0 and 25 °C, respectively. The kinetic parameters, maximum velocity (Vmax) 277.78 U/mL and Michaelis constant (KM) 34.17 mM were estimated from Lineweaver-Burk plots. Furthermore, catalase activity was evaluated at glucose concentrations ranging between 25 and 500 ppm. Enzyme activity increased at 25–100 ppm, significantly decreased at 250 ppm, and then increased again at 500 ppm. These results suggest that glucose may modulate catalase activity in a concentration-dependent manner. Even though the exact regulatory mechanism remains unclear, this effect could have potential implications for glucose-sensitive metabolic systems.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026The novel conformable methods to solve conformable time- fractional coupled Whitham-Broer-Kaup equation
Alkan, Aslı; Avit, Özkan; Anaç, Halil
This study employs two innovative techniques, namely the conformable q-homotopy analysis transform method (Cq-HATM) and the conformable Elzaki Adomian decomposition method (CEADM), to investigate the numerical solutions for the conformable time-fractional coupled Whitham-Broer-Kaup problem. One of the two novel approaches offered is Cq-HATM, which is a hybrid approach that integrates the q-homotopy analysis transform method with Laplace transform using the concept of conformable derivative. The CEADM method, like the aforementioned approach, is a hybrid method that integrates the Adomian decomposition method and Elzaki transform by utilizing the concept of conformable derivative. The computer simulations were conducted in order to provide empirical evidence supporting the efficacy and reliability of the recommended methodologies. Upon comparing the precise solutions with the obtained solutions, it becomes evident that both of the novel methodologies exhibit simplicity, efficacy, and proficiency in addressing nonlinear conformable time-fractional partial differential equations.

- BildiriYalnız künye2026Dynamic Analysis of a High-Rise Building Under Near-Fault and Far-Fault Loads Considering Soil-Structure Interaction
Kaya, Dilek; Cakir, Tufan; Ozturk, Kasif Furkan; Ilki, A.; Goksu, C.; Cinar, T.; Erdik, M.
Earthquakes that have occurred in our country and various countries around the world over the past 30 years have clearly indicated that the complex relationship between the soil, structure, and earthquake requires further research. This situation has shown that building behavior under dynamic loads can vary depending on parameters such as structural geometry, foundation soil system characteristics, and earthquake characteristics. Due to the fact that near-fault movements contain higher accelerations and higher velocity components compared to far-fault movements, high-rise structures may exhibit relatively more sensitive behavior under such loads and may be negatively affected by these earthquake contents. In this context, the aim of this study is to investigate the dynamic behavior of a 12-story building system under near-fault and far-fault ground motions, taking into account different soil properties. To this end, three-dimensional finite element models were first created for the 12-story building system, considering both fixed and flexible foundation conditions. Modal analyses were performed using finite element models created with ANSYS software, and the obtained mode periods were compared with those obtained from analytical models. Subsequently, the dynamic behavior of the 12-story building system was investigated using relative displacement, stress, and acceleration responses obtained from time-domain analyses conducted for different soil systems and fixed foundation conditions. Comparisons of the dynamic responses showed that the structural dynamic responses could be influenced not only by the soil-structure interaction system but also by nearby and distant fault earthquakes.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Pyrolysis-based valorization of Pinus sylvestris bark waste into bioactive fractions: LC–MS/MS analysis and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial activities
Gül, Abdulkadir
In this study, bark waste from the forest industry derived from Pinus sylvestris was processed by pyrolysis extraction, and the chemical compositions and biological activities of the resulting light (PLF) and heavy (PHF) fractions were comparatively investigated. When the extraction yields of the pyrolysis fractions were compared, PHF (20.80%) showed a significantly higher recovery than PLF (10.35%). Total phenolic content (TPC) was higher in the PHF (365.80 GAE/g), whereas total flavonoid content (TFC) was concentrated in the PLF (200.80 mg QE/g). LC–MS/MS analyses of the PHF fraction, which exhibited more pronounced biological activity, revealed caffeic acid (7190.65 µg/g) and protocatechuic acid (2694.30 µg/g) as the predominant phenolic compounds. Antioxidant capacity analyses indicated that the PLF exhibited stronger radical scavenging activity, lower IC50 values in DPPH and ABTS⁺• assays (50.01 and 101.60 µg/mL, respectively) and higher TAC values (901.00 mg TE/L). Fe3+ and Cu2+ reducing assays demonstrated strong redox activity in both fractions, with Cu2+ reducing capacity particularly higher in PLF. In enzyme inhibition studies, the PHF showed stronger inhibition against 5-lipoxygenase (IC50 = 29.28 µg/mL) and α-glucosidase (IC50 = 82.50 µg/mL) compared to PLF. The antibacterial potential of the fractions was assessed using Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The PHF exhibited significant inhibition zones, particularly against P. aeruginosa (17.40 mm) and S. aureus (13.40 mm). Consequently, these findings suggest that pyrolysis-based fractionation may be an effective and sustainable method for converting P. sylvestris bark waste into functional fractions with high antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial potential.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the biological properties of the peel and pulp extracts of persimmons, with consideration of the impact of different ripening conditions (B: on-branch ripened and S: sunlight ripened). The data demonstrated that the sunlight ripened persimmon peel (S. peel) extract exhibited a higher total phenolic and flavonoid content, with 157 and 7.3 µg/mL GAE respectively. The S. peel extract exhibited the highest antioxidant activity, exhibiting 1.1578 mg/mL IC50, 54.095 and 0.0262 µM Trolox equivalent (TE)/g fresh weight (FW), as determined by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) radical scavenging assay, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) respectively. LC-MS/MS analysis revealed that the peel and pulp phenolic composition of persimmon ripening process different conditions changed. The activity of protocatechuic, chlorogenic, caffeic and ferulic acids identified in persimmon extracts was determined by HPLC-DAD-FRAP assay. ICP-OES analysis revealed that potassium exhibited the highest mineral content of persimmon, with values ranging from 575.680 to 2031.360 mg/kg. The S. peel extract was more inhibitory activity against bovine carbonic anhydrase (BCA) and α-glucosidase then other extracts. Moreover, the S. peel extract was found to demonstrate the highest level of antibiofilm activity, reducing the strong biofilm formation capacity of the A. baumannii isolate to negative, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The study suggests that the ripening of persimmon fruit in sunlight may increase biological activity and may be useful in the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative damage, diabetes and bacterial infections.

This study aims to investigate trends and changes in water quality (WQ) and quantity parameters under low-medium-high groups and seasonal trends employing innovative methods. The data were collected from three monitoring stations in the Broad River Basin (USA). The data spanning the years 1987–2020, on water temperature (WT), dissolved oxygen (DO), discharge (Q), and electrical conductivity (EC) parameters, were used for analysis. A combination of innovative trend analysis with binary segmentation (ITABS) was proposed for objective group separation for the purpose of group trend analysis, allowing for the capture of changes in both location and shape parameters. Recently proposed innovative polygon trend Wilcoxon significance test (IPTWST) and innovative polygon trend analysis (IPTA) were also used to examine seasonal trends for the first time, providing a graphical and qualitative analysis of seasonal behavior. The seasonal Mann-Kendall test was also used to compare them. The ITABS method grouped WQ parameters into more than one group, except for the DO parameter. Especially from EC and Q parameters, it is concluded that the trends in groups do not always contribute to the overall trend or at the same rate. Group trends, therefore, should not be ignored for water resources management. According to IPTA and IPTWST, although there is no clear trend in certain seasons, it is evident that seasonal trends exist, and the Q and EC parameters have a more complex structure. The IPTWST method has the advantage of being able to graphically show the inter-seasonal behavior, although it is identical to the seasonal Mann-Kendall method.

The optimal parameters for three different structural damping ratios (0%, 2%, and 5%) and a wide range of mass ratio (0 to 0.1) suitable for practical applications are determined in the frequency domain using the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm to minimize the displacement response. To bridge the gap between complex optimization and practical engineering, novel empirical design formulas are proposed, enabling researchers to determine optimal parameters for C3, C4, and C6 configurations without requiring exhaustive computational effort. Unlike previous studies, the study presents a rigorous validation of inerter effectiveness through an extensive suite of 160 ground motions, providing a granular comparison of performance under near-fault excitations versus far-fault records. Results demonstrate that while inerter-based systems significantly outperform classical TMDs in the frequency domain, their comparative superiority in the time domain is more bound, with average response reduction improvements of approximately 5%. The inerter-based TMDs exhibit the highest efficiency in mitigating kinetic energy, followed by displacement and acceleration. Notably, the effectiveness of the control systems is found to be highly sensitive to ground motion characteristics and structural damping, where higher damping ratios consistently lead to reduced control performance. Considering the trade-off between seismic efficiency and mechanical simplicity, the C6 configuration is identified as the most viable solution for structural protection.

Background: Despite its growing presence in healthcare settings, research on the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) interventions for symptom experience of patients with cancer remains varied and requires a comprehensive synthesis to reach definitive conclusions. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of VR interventions in managing anxiety among individuals diagnosed with cancer. Methods: A comprehensive search of Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Scopus databases was conducted for studies published from 2000 to November 2025. Publications were evaluated by independent reviewers for inclusion. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed via Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools for randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies. Results: Twenty-one publications satisfied the requirements for review inclusion. The meta-analysis demonstrated that VR-based interventions were significantly effective in the management of patients’ anxiety, yielding a moderate-to-high effect size (SMD = −0.793, 95% CI = −1.403 to −0.184; Z = −2.551; p = 0.011). Most studies reported statistically significant decreases in anxiety scores across various cancer types, including breast, prostate, and ovarian cancers. No major side effects were reported, although minor instances of cyber sickness were managed by adjusting session durations. User satisfaction was exceptionally high, with satisfaction scores reaching 4.47/5 and 7.35/10. Implications for practice: The results support the use of VR as an effective and safe non-pharmacological intervention for anxiety management. The findings highlight the potential for VR to be integrated into routine oncology nursing and palliative care to improve the patient experience during stressful treatments like chemotherapy. Conclusion: VR-based interventions are an effective, safe, and highly acceptable approach for managing anxiety in patients with cancer. Further research is needed to support wider clinical implementation and to investigate the potential benefits of VR for other physical and psychological symptoms over longer follow-up periods.
