- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scrutinizing blockchain applicability in sustainable supply chains through an integrated fuzzy multi-criteria decision making framework
Erol, Ismail; Ar, Ilker Murat; Peker, Iskender
Sustainability has become increasingly important over the last three decades and has proven to be a key enabler for constructing resilient supply chains. Customers who want their products to be authenticated for sustainability put pressure on Original Equipment Manufacturers and suppliers to become more sustainable on a global scale. Moreover, social sustainability issues have become more challenging to address, and a growing number of stakeholders put emphasis on societal concerns. To this end, decision-makers are becoming increasingly interested in applying disruptive technologies to address societal, environmental, and economic concerns and accomplish sustainability goals. Researchers argue that disruptive technologies such as blockchain may be implemented to assist supply chains towards building sustainability. However, our literature analysis concluded that existing research has not quantitatively examined the critical functions of sustainable supply chain (SSC) for blockchain applicability using a decision framework. Therefore, this research, through Fuzzy SWARA-COPRAS-EDAS and COPELAND-based framework, is aimed at investigating the most feasible functions of a SSC for potential blockchain implementations. Using this framework, the critical functions of a SSC were ranked against the benefits of blockchain. The findings of this study implied that while sourcing, delivery, transformation and product recovery proved to be the most appropriate functions of SSCs for blockchain applications, customers and product use was the least feasible one. This study aids decision-makers in gaining a more thorough understanding of where in a SSC blockchain may create additional value.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Microwave decontamination process for hummus: A computational study with experimental validation
Son, Ezgi; Coskun, Eda; Ozturk, Samet; Bulduk, Kubra; Akpinar, Merve; Mert, Behic; Erdogdu, Ferruh
There has been an increasing demand for healthy snacks, and hummus is preferred as a plant-based product its rich protein content. Its increased consumption, on the other hand, has raised food safety issues with linkages to Listeria outbreak and a recent Salmonella related recall. These were observed in ready-to-eat hummus and indicated the requirement of further processing. Conventional thermal processes might require longer times with negative impact on the quality due to the high viscosity of hummus with its solid-like rheology. For an efficient process design, microwave (MW) processing might be considered with its volumetric heating feature. Therefore, the objective of this study was to present MW application for a decontamination process for hummus. For this purpose, a computational model was developed to determine the temperature change during the process. This model was validated using the experimentally obtained temperature data from samples processed in polystyrene petri dishes (60 g – 8.5 cm in diameter and 1.2 cm in height) in a lab-scale MW system. Color changes were determined, and changes in its viscosity were used to understand the variation in the rheological attributes. Hummus samples were also inoculated with Salmonella cocktail to ≈7–8 log10 CFU/g prior to the MW process, and 70 W MW processing for 5 min (to average temperature of 95.3 °C) resulted in >4 log cycle reduction. Changes in color and rheological attributes were not significant with rather limited mass losses, and these indicated the possible MW processing for hummus decontamination with the need of designing an industrial scale processing.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Determining the factors affecting the disaster resilience of countries by geographical weighted regression
Mızrak, Sefa; Çam, Handan
The effects of natural and technological disasters on human, the environment, economy and social life can be prevented via scientific and technological developments. Especially, international scientific studies provide a better understanding of the nature, characteristics and effects of disasters. Therefore, a more resilient community can be built after disasters by reducing the damages of disasters at national and international level. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the disaster resilience of countries. In this study, by analyzing the data of 181 countries in 2018 and 2019, the rate of total population affected by disasters was employed as dependent variable and the factors indicating the development level of countries as independent variables. The data were analyzed with the help of ArcGIS 10.7 program using ordinary least squares regression analysis that reveals general relationships and geographical weighted regression analysis that shows local relationships across study area. In conclusion, in the general model, compulsory education duration in 2018 was the only variable that positively and significantly predicted the rate of total population affected by disasters. While neonatal mortality rate and unemployment predicted positively and significantly the rate of total population affected by disasters in 2019, urban population rate predicted negatively and significantly. The effect of all the independent variables on the rate of total population affected by disasters differed depending on time and region. The result of this study is expected to contribute to the national and international organizations responsible for disaster risk reduction efforts to prepare more effective and efficient disaster plans. In addition, the method and approach of this study may give an idea to scientists investigating on disasters.
- MakaleYalnız künye2022A comparative study to determine seismic response of the box culvert wing wall under influence of soil-structure interaction considering different ground motions
Ozturk, Kasif Furkan; Cakir, Tufan; Araz, Onur
The present study deals with evaluation of the effects of different ground motions, backfill-structure interaction (BSI) and soil-structure interaction (SSI) on dynamic response of a box culvert wing wall. In obtaining numerical results, five different earthquake records with different frequency contents, five different backfill types and four different subsoil types are taken into account. Firstly, a finite element model (FEM) and three analytical models are proposed for analysis of the wing wall-backfill system under fixed-base case, and these fixed-base models are compared with each other through both modal analysis and displacement time-history analysis under the assumption of linear-elasticity. After validating the ability of the FEM approach, by extending the fixed-base FEM to take account of elastoplastic behavior of soil and SSI, a three dimensional (3-D) model has been described, and 3-D nonlinear analyses have been carried out in time domain. The numerical results show that the seismic response of the wing walls are affected remarkably by the SSI, BSI and frequency content of the earthquake.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Evaluation of the in vitro antioxidant, antidiabetic and anticholinergic properties of rosmarinic acid from rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.)
Topal, Meryem; Gulcin, İlhami
In this study, antidiabetic, anticholinergic, and antioxidant abilities of rosmarinic acid were evaluated and compared to standards. To determine its antioxidant activity different in vitro bioanalytical methods, including total antioxidant activity (TAA), ABTS•+ scavenging activity, O2•- scavenging activity, DPPH· scavenging activity, DMPD•+ scavenging activity, potassium ferric cyanide reduction ability, cupric ion (Cu2+) reduction capacity, H2O2 scavenging activity, and ferrous ions (Fe2+) binding activities were separately performed. Also, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Trolox, α-tocopherol, and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) were used as the reference antioxidants. Rosmarinic acid inhibited the linoleic acid emulsion peroxidation by 89.2% while BHA, BHT, Trolox and α-tocopherol inhibited as 87.3, 97.6, 90.3 and 75.3%, respectively, at the same concentration (30 μg/mL). When these results are evaluated, rosmarinic acid had effective TAA than BHA and α-tocopherol and close to BHT and Trolox. In addition, rosmarinic acid exhibited Kİ values of 9.67 ± 0.81 nM towards acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and 33.56 ± 2.96 nM against α-glycosidase enzymes.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Closing the Loop in Photovoltaic Solar and Wind Power Supply Chains: An investigation in Turkey through Neutrosphopic-DELPHI-based Force Field Analysis and Neutrosphopic-DEMATEL
Erol, Ismail; Peker, Iskender; Turan, İsmet; Benli, Tolga
Since solar panels and wind turbines have limited lifespans, solar photovoltaic energy supply chain (SPvESC) and wind energy supply chain (WESC) in Turkey needs a paradigm shift to improve the efficiency and recyclability of solar panel and wind turbine components. The circular economy (CE) is a viable strategy for reducing the negative effects of linear supply chains in the SPvESC and WESC. However, despite the several drivers of implementing CE in the SPvESC and WESC, there are also barriers to CE initiatives. It is argued that further studies are needed to explore the drivers and challenges for CE adoption in different industries of developing and developed countries. Hence, the goal of this research is to explore the driving and restraining forces for CE adoption in Turkey's SPvESC and WESC through a decision framework that includes Neutrosphopic DELPHI-based Force Field Analysis, Neutrosphopic-DEMATEL, and Nominal Group Technique. The findings of this research suggested that because the total score of restraining forces is higher than that of driving forces in force field analysis, it is critical to investigate the relationships among the restraining forces. Our findings also suggested that nonexistence of effective incentives and regulations proved to be the most prominent restraining force.
- MakaleYalnız künye2022Optimization of multiple tuned mass dampers for a two-span continuous railway bridge via differential evolution algorithm
Araz, Onur; Kahya, Volkan
The study aims at proposing a methodology for optimization of multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMD) in reducing the multi-resonance vibrations of continuous bridges due to moving train loads. The equations of motion for time-domain analysis are derived for obtaining train-induced vibrations of a two-span continuous railway bridge with equipped MTMD-1 and MTMD-2 devices when the vehicle-bridge interaction (VBI) is considered. The bridge and the train are modeled as a Bernoulli-Euler beam with constant section and a series of moving sprung masses of identical length, respectively. To reduce the multiple resonance vibrations of a two-span continuous railway bridge, the MTMD-1 and MTMD-2 are tuned to the first mode and the second mode of the bridge, and they are attached to the midspan of each span, respectively. The optimum parameters of the both MTMD systems are investigated using the differential evolution (DE) method. The criterion chosen to obtain the optimum parameters is the minimization of the first two resonance peaks of the bridge. The influence of the different mass ratios and the number of TMD units in the MTMD system on the optimum parameters of the both MTMD systems and corresponding displacement responses of the bridge are also investigated. The results show that the VBI effect does not have much effect on the resonant train speeds and the control performance of TMDs. Therefore, the optimum parameters of TMDs can be obtained quickly by modeling the train as a series of moving forces for the vibration control of railway bridges.
- MakaleYalnız künye2022A decision support tool for the student–supervisor allocation problem of postgraduate programs
Bahadır Şimşek, Ahmet
The stable supervisor-student allocation (SSA) is crucial in the success of the research at the postgraduate education. The difference of SSA from the well-known student-project allocation (SPA) problem is that it moves the determination of the research topic to after the allocation, thus allowing the student and the lecturer to discuss the research topic. In the education systems of developing countries where decision support systems are not prevalent, the student–lecturer allocation is performed manually with a greedy approach, which can result in unstable matches. In this study, we propose a multi-objective binary model that allows decision-makers to shift between three main allocation strategies with a trade-off parameter. We test the model with a real dataset of a postgraduate program in Turkey. Experiments show that the model can successfully implement different strategies, and there can also be more than one breaking point between strategies. Also, we transform the model into a decision support tool that provides easy use to the decision-maker and reports the solutions of the trade-off parameter sensitivity analysis. The tool reports the level of satisfaction for each strategy at different breakpoints, allowing the decision-maker to see its options.

Tokaç Er, Nida; Doğan, Gökcen; Meriç, Çağdaş Salih; Yılmaz, Hacı Ömer; Öztürk, Meryem Elif; Ayhan, Nurcan Yabancı
Objectives: This study was carried out in order to determine the prevalence of obesity among the students of the Faculty of Health Sciences and to evaluate the anthropometric measurements of the students. Materials and methods: The population of the study was in total 984 volunteering undergraduate students from Ankara University Faculty of Health Sciences, Child Development, Midwifery, Nursing, Health Management and Social Work departments. The sociodemographic characteristics of the students were obtained with the help of the questionnaire and the anthropometric measurements by the researchers. SPSS package program was used for descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis for assessment of data. Results: 16.5% of the students participating in the study were overweight and 4.5% were obese. Approximately half of the students who are overweight and obese reported staying in the dormitory. Average BMI value in males is 23.1 kg/m2 and 22.3 kg/m2 in females. 29.1% of females are at risk in terms of abdominal obesity and 30.6% of males in terms of waist/height ratio. Male gender and presence of an obese person in the family increases the risk of being overweight or obese. Conclusions: Risky health behaviors are observed among university students and in order to avoid such behaviors, it is necessary to provide training especially on subjects such as nutrition and physical activity. Adopting the right nutritional habits and healthy lifestyle is important in individuals who will be the future healthcare professionals, for both their and future generations' health.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021A reduced variance unsupervised ensemble learning algorithm based on modern portfolio theory
Ünlü, Ramazan; Xanthopoulos, Petros
Unsupervised ensemble learning or consensus clustering has gained popularity due to its ability to combine multiple clustering solutions into a single solution that is robust and often performs better than the individual ones. There have been several approaches to consensus clustering including voting and weighted voting algorithmic schemes. Although there have been several algorithms for adjusting the weights of a consensus clustering all of them are tuned based on some performance characteristic associated with clustering accuracy. In this paper, we propose a method for incorporating weights by taking into consideration the intra algorithmic variability i.e. algorithms that provide solutions with very different performance upon multiple runs. The methodology is inspired by modern portfolio theory and more specifically from Markowitz model for asset allocation where one is trying to identify the most efficient portfolio through the solution of a convex optimization problem. Here, efficiency is defined as the minimum amount of risk for an expected return. We apply this method to different datasets and compare with respect to performance and robustness. The proposed scheme appears to achieve competitive average performance with very low variability.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021A rapid method to detect green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio by using portable FT-MIR and FT-NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics
Aykas, Didem Peren; Menevseoglu, Ahmed
In this research, the determination of green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio by portable Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR) and Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy was studied. A rapid method to detect adulteration in pistachio is a necessity in the food industry because of its high commodity value and being one of the most consumed tree nuts. Pistachio nut is a target for economically motivated adulteration, and green pea, spinach, and peanut are the most seen adulterants in pistachio. Portable FT-MIR and FT-NIR spectrometers are simple, non-invasive, rapid, easy to transport, and cheaper alternatives to traditional methods, including chromatography (GC, HPLC), mass-spectroscopy (GC-MS, LC-MS) for the detection of pistachio adulteration. Powdered pistachio samples were adulterated with powdered green pea and peanut samples at different concentrations (5–40%). Spectra were collected with a portable FT-MIR and FT-NIR spectrometers and analyzed by Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (SIMCA) to generate a classification model to authenticate pure pistachio, and Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR) to predict the levels of adulterants in pistachio. SIMCA provided, in both units, very distinct clusters for pure and adulterated samples with inter-class distance (ICD) over 3. Both units also showed superior performance in predicting adulterant levels with rVal>0.99, standard error of prediction (SEP) < 2.5%. Based on SIMCA and PLSR models, portable FT-NIR spectrometer provided more advantages over portable FT-MIR unit because the prediction with the FT-NIR spectrometer was more precise than the FT-MIR unit. Both portable FT-MIR and FT-NIR units can be used as alternative methods to traditional methods and showed great potential for real-time surveillance to detect green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Additivity effect on properties of cemented coal fly ash backfill containing water-reducing admixtures
Cavusoglu, Ibrahim; Yilmaz, Erol; Yilmaz, Ali Osman
Cemented coal fly ash backfill (CCB), a flowable structure of coal fly ash, binding agent and mixing water, has been often employed in mining operations to offer ground support as well as waste disposal solutions. An appropriate CCB mass should have sufficient rheological (e.g., workability) and mechanical (e.g., strength and stability) characteristics. Chemical admixtures are well known to greatly enhance the pumpability and strength properties of cementitious materials. Thus, this work provides the effect of water-reducing admixtures (namely, Sikament MR 50 W and Sikament FFN) on characteristics of CCB materials manufactured at a constant slump value. The role of admixtures in CCB mix is to reduce the cement-related costs, to modify the properties of the hardened backfills, and to ensure the quality of the backfill during mixing, transporting, placing, and curing. These admixtures were used at a dosage of 1% and 2% by weight of anhydrous material on cement. Several laboratory tests including slump, setting time, uniaxial compressive strength, scanning electron microscopy and mercury intrusion porosimetry were undertaken on CCB samples to understand their fresh and hardened performance. Experimental results show that the admixtures used ensure the slump required to deliver CCB at low water/cement ratios, improve short- and long-term backfill strengths up to 33%, and decrease the total porosity of the tested CCB. The findings of this study also show that the admixture use in CCB leads to a significant decrease in the considered cement content and a remarkable increase in the mechanical strength. As a result, understanding the actual fresh and hardened properties of CCB remains crucial for the choice of the greatest acting backfill admixture and for a fruitful change from capable experimental results to the in-situ conditions.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021U–Pb zircon ages and petrogenesis of the Late Cretaceous I-type granitoids in arc setting, Eastern Pontides, NE Turkey
Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Arslan, Mehmet; Temizel, İrfan; CemYücel; Aydınçakır, Emre
The Eastern Pontides Orogenic Belt (EPOB) as a well-preserved ancient magmatic arc situated in the eastern part of the Sakarya Zone and has key importance to allow for proper reconstruction of the geodynamic evolution of the region. The region accepted as important part of Alpine–Himalayan Belt comprises of many granitoids of the Late Cretaceous age. This paper presents new mineral chemistry, bulk-rock petrochemistry, U-Pb geochronology and radiogenic and stable isotope geochemistry data from the Arpaköy and Oyman granitoids in the north part of the EPOB to interpretation of the igneous activity and geodynamic evolution of the region in Late Cretaceous era. Emplacement ages of 86.82 ± 0.58 Ma for the Oyman granitoid and 82.0 ± 2.3 Ma for the Arpaköy granitoid according to laser ablation ICP-MS U–Pb zircon dating. The Arpaköy granitoid are gabbro diorite, diorite and granite, whereas the Oyman granitoid are tonalite and granite in composition. They show metaluminous-peraluminous transitional (ASI = 0.79–1.20) low to medium-K calc-alkaline features. The rock samples from granitoids are characterized by enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and high field strength elements (HFSE) depletion with concave-upward shapes (LaN/LuN = 1.88 to 6.04). The crystallization temperatures are 648 °C–913 °C and the pressure values are 0.2–3.0 kbar, which indicates emplacement depth of the studied granitoids varying from ~1 to 9 km correspond to shallow crustal depths. They show considerable variations in εNd(i) (−4.02 to 1.50) and 87Sr/86Sr(i) (0.70478–0.70689). The 206Pb/204Pb ratios are between 17.97 and 18.65, and δ18O are varying from +5.4 to +9.3‰. The parental magma of the Arpaköy and Oyman granitoids originated from a melt of the enriched lithospheric mantle and the fractional crystallization and lesser assimilation processes has important role on the evolution of magmas in the shallow crustal levels.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Effect of far infrared heating process on surface decontamination and quality attributes of whole yellow and white onions
Coskun, Eda; Ozturk, Samet; Akpinar, Merve; Halkman, A. Kadir; Erdogdu, Ferruh
This study aimed to develop an effective decontamination process for whole yellow and white onions with maintained quality attributes. For this purpose, a far infrared radiation (FIR) process was evaluated to determine its effects on microbial safety and quality of the onions. Prior to the FIR process, samples were inoculated with Salmonella culture to about 7–8 log10 CFU/cm2 and stored for 1–48 h at room temperature. Inoculated samples were then processed up to 120 s at 400 °C infrared source temperature. Temperature chance of the onions was recorded by using T-type thermocouples, and surface temperature distribution was obtained with an infrared thermal camera. Quality attributes (color changes, mass losses and textural changes) were also evaluated following the FIR process. The results indicated that 3.3 and 2.4 log10 CFU/cm2 reductions in the Salmonella counts were obtained for the whole yellow and white onions, stored for 1 h at room temperature after 120 s FIR processing. The background microbial population on the outer skin of the onions was under the detection limit (<1 log10 CFU/g). It was observed that the effectiveness of FIR treatment on Salmonella decontamination decreased as the storage time increased from 1 to 48 h at room temperature. FIR process did not significantly affect the quality attributes of the onions, and the results confirmed the potential use of FIR process for surface decontamination of the onions. Further studies were suggested to design an effective FIR system for industrial scale applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Performance of AC overlays using geogrids on PCC contraction joints
Çelik, Muhammet; Seferoğlu, Mehmet Tevfik; Akpınar, Muhammet Vefa
It is widely known that vertical displacements and strains occur on the joints and these cause defects on the asphalt concrete (AC) overlays on existing Portland cement concrete (PCC) pavements. Various approaches were introduced to minimize these defects. In this study, the effect of joint support formed using the geogrid material with grout mortar on the vertical displacement of PCC and the strain at the bottom of the AC layer. Produced layers were exposed to 1,186,000 Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL) in an APT (Accelerated Pavement Test) facility and the results were monitored. According to the obtained results, the use of AC overlay reduces vertical displacement in the PCC by 75%. When geogrid reinforced AC overlay was used, an additional reduction in displacement by 41.2% was achieved. Geogrid reinforcement reduced strain values formed at the bottom of the AC layer from 29.5% to 92.5%. The use of geogrid at joints instead of increasing the thickness of the AC layer from 50 to 80 mm resulted a more significant reduction in both strain and displacement. Besides, the usage of a geogrid interlayer instead of increasing the thickness of the AC layer also provided a significant cost reduction of 57.9% in overall cost.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Single-step recovery of pectin and essential oil from lemon waste by ohmic heating assisted extraction/hydrodistillation: A multi-response optimization study
Tunç, Merve Tuğçe; Odabaş, Halil İbrahim
The main products obtained from citrus wastes are pectin and essential oil. In this work, ohmic heating assisted extraction/hydrodistillation (OHAE/H) was applied for the simultaneous recovery of pectin and essential oil from lemon waste. Optimum OHAE/H conditions to maximize the yield of pectin and essential oil were determined with response surface methodology. Three independent variables, namely liquid to solid ratio (w:v), extraction/hydrodistillation time (min) and voltage gradient (V/cm) were varied to obtain maximum pectin and essential oil yield. Optimum OHAE/H conditions were determined as 8.7:1 liquid to solid ratio, 58.4 min extraction/hydrodistillation time and 14.2 V/cm voltage gradient. The predicted pectin and essential oil yields at optimum conditions were 16.58 and 3.62 g/100 g lemon waste, respectively. Data analysis showed that all of the independent variables significantly affected the pectin and essential oil yield. In the verification study, close agreement was found between predicted and experimental values. Conventional heating extraction/hydrodistillation (CHE/H) were conducted to evaluate the effectivity of OHAE/H. With OHAE/H process, the yields of the pectin and essential oil were significantly increased when compared to CHE/H. Limonene concentration of the essential oil produced with OHAE/H was higher than the essential oil produced by CHE/H. Results demonstrate that the single-step OHAE/H could be an effective method for simultaneous extraction and hydrodistillation of pectin and essential oils.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Determination of START triage skill and knowledge levels of Prehospital Emergency Medical Staff: A cross sectional study

Şan, Murat; Akpınar, Adem; Bingölbali, Bilal; Kankal, Murat
The present study aims to determine priority areas for installation of wave energy converters (WECs) in a semi-enclosed sea using a multi-criteria, spatial, decision-making analysis based on geographical information systems (GIS). The study also suggests a new methodology for determination of suitable areas for WECs taking into consideration different extreme wave conditions, intra-annual variation of wave conditions, and operational range of wave conditions by the WECs. A case study over a distance of 1140 km along the coast in the southwest Black Sea is presented. In the multi-criteria analysis, areas with environmental, economic, technical and social constraints are excluded. Ocean depth, distance to ports, shore, power line, and sub-station, wave climate, and sea-floor geology are all evaluated for their impact on the system implementation and weighted according to their relevance. Thus, the final suitability index (SI) map is produced and spatial statistical significance of the suitable areas is checked using hotspot analysis. Based on this, Kırklareli coastal area and the area between İğneada Cape and Kıyıköy village are determined as primary priority areas. The sustainability parameters with different weights proposed in this study do not differentiate priority areas but affect the SI scores.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Cost-oriented LSTM methods for possible expansion of control charting signals
Ünlü, Ramazan
Manual quality control may result in delayed detection of a system defect, or none at all, potentially resulting in malfunctions that can lead to disruption of the system, incur extra costs, or complete downtime of the system. To mitigate such issues, more advanced statistics and machine learning-based systems such as SVM, WSVM, etc. are used to automatically detect error signals during the process. However, these methodologies are not developed for sequential dataset such as a classical CCPR dataset. As a result, in this study, we have implemented a preliminary Cost-Oriented Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM), which is designed to learn from a sequential dataset and compare it with SVM and WSVM which are traditional methods utilized in the field. Additionally, we compared the performance of methods in terms of early detection of an abnormal pattern. Based on the findings, the Cost-Oriented LSTM method outperforms SVM and WSVM in the majority of abnormal patterns in terms of both classification and early detection performance. Global accuracy score which is the average of accuracy rates in all combination of abnormal parameters and window lengths shows that LSTM gives a better accuracy score than SVM and WSVM in all seven abnormal patterns detection.
- MakaleYalnız künye2021Analysis of relationships between nanotechnology applications, mineral saving and ecological footprint: Evidence from panel fourier cointegration and causality tests
Koç, Pınar; Gülmez, Ahmet
Analyzing the relationship between nanotechnology applications, mineral saving, and environmental degradation is important to achieve sustainable development goals. However, in the literature, no study empirically examines the interaction among nanotechnology applications, mineral saving, and environmental degradation. This study addresses this significant gap in the literature by investigating the impacts of nanotechnology applications on mineral saving and the ecological footprint in 9 countries (Australia, Canada, China, France, Japan, Korea, Russia, Sweden, and the USA) in the period 1990–2017 using the combined panel fourier fractional cointegration and panel fractional fourier causality test. According to the causality test results based on group statistics, there is a Granger causality from nanotechnology applications to mineral saving. Also, there is causality from mineral saving to ecological footprint. The estimations of the causality based on individual statistics show no causality linkage between nanotechnology applications and mineral saving in the countries, excluding Australia and France. Canada, China, France, and Sweden are countries with unilateral causality from nanotechnology applications to ecological footprint. In the other countries, except China, Japan, and the USA, mineral saving doesn't Granger cause ecological footprint. The long-run findings show a positive impact of nanotechnology applications on mineral saving and ecological footprint. These findings are valid for all countries. In this context, it can be concluded that nanotechnology applications are essential for resource-saving. But, to save resources, the authorities should focus on controlling and measuring nanoparticle emissions.
