- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Erectile dysfunction treatment with Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors: Google trends analysis of last 10 years and COVID-19 pandemic
Deger, Muslim Dogan; Madendere, Serdar
Objectives: We aimed to analyze the trend change of the most popular Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors (PDE5i) over time and geography by using Google Trends (GT) data in 10 years period and COVID-19 pandemic. Materials and methods: GT is able to generate a line-graph, showing how interest has increased or decreased over a period within specific territories. The search values for specific terms are indexed as relative search volume (RSV), which is presented on a scale from 0-100. Avarage annual percentage change (AAPC) and RSV were analyzed to evaluate gain or loss of interest in trends. Search terms were generated for Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved PDE5i; tadalafil, sildenafil, vardenafil, avanafil, and their most-used brand names. The data was within worldwide from 1 January 2010, to 31 December 2020, using the global query category. Results: The overall interest in PDE5i has doubled. Sildenafil has become the most trend PDE5i of today with a regular increase (AAPC: 0.016, p < 0.01). Although the search trend of tadalafil remained almost constant until 2014, the rate of increase in the last 6 years raised and tadalafil has become the 2nd most popular PDE5i recently (AAPC: 0.007, p < 0.01). For vardenafil there has been a decreased interest (AAPC: -0.009, p < 0.01). There is no significant change in avanafil trend (AAPC: 0.000, p: 0.5). All PDE5i interest on GT decreased notably from February to June 2020. But after June, search trends reached the level before the COVID-19 period in a month. Conclusions: These findings show us, with its increasing prevalence, erectile dysfunction (ED) has become a major public health problem. People from different geographies search the Internet for ED treatment options. Patients should be informed that ED may be the first sign of many comorbid diseases, and patients with ED should be referred to a health institution for diagnosis and treatment.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Relationship between androgen levels and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio in patients diagnosed with hirsutism
Sayilan, Samet; Mert, Meral; Kulakac, Nursen
Aim: Hirsutism is a disease involving increased terminal hair growth in women with a male-type distribution pattern in androgen-sensitive areas such as the chin, upper lip, chest, abdomen, back, and thighs. Our review of the available literature revealed no previous studies concerning the role of the peripheral blood neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), an easily calculated and noninvasive marker, in hirsutism. The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between androgen levels and NLR in female patients diagnosed with hirsutism. Material and Methods: The files of 392 patients presenting to the Bakirkoy Dr. Sadi Konuk Education and Research Hospital due to hirsutism between 2018 and 2020 were included in this cross-sectional, retrospective study. Patients' hirsutism and menstrual cycles, age at menarche, number of pregnancies in the case of married women, number of living children, and history of infertility were investigated. Hyperandrogenemia findings, such as hair loss and acne, were also recorded. Patients' biochemical and complete blood count parameters were evaluated. Results: The mean age of the participants was 26.27 +/- 6.37 years (min-max: 16-48), and their androgen levels were statistically significantly associated with high-density lipoprotein, hemoglobin, hematocrit, 17-hydroxyprogesterone, and HbA1c levels (p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between patients' androgen levels and NLR values (p>0.05). Discussion: No significant relationship was determined in this study between androgen levels and NLR values in women diagnosed with hirsutism. Due to the limited numbers of previous similar studies, further research with larger patient numbers is now needed.

Yilmaz, Ali Kerim; Yilmaz, Coskun; Karaduman, Emre; Mayda, Muhammet Hakan; Erail, Serhat; Bostanci, Ozgur; Kabadayi, Menderes
This study aimed to analyze preferred leg (PLs) and non-preferred leg (NPLs) isokinetic knee strength, lateral asymmetry ratios and to examine their correlation with static balance. Sixteen female taekwondo (TKD) athletes voluntarily participated in the study. Knee isokinetic extension (Ex) and flexion (Flx) strength were measured in concentric / concentric (Con / Con) contractions at angular velocities of 60 degrees/s, 180 degrees/s, and 240 degrees/s. Ipsilateral hamstring / quadriceps (H/Q) and bilateral (H/H and Q/Q) ratios were calculated. Static balances were determined by taking the center of body pressure in X (COPX) and Y (COPY) axis. Paired sample t-test and Pearson correlation tests were used in statistical analysis. When the isokinetic knee strength was examined, it was found that 60 degrees/s angular velocity parameter was significantly different in Flx phase while 180 degrees/s and 240 degrees/s angular velocities were found to be significantly different in Ex phase in favor of PLs. There was no significance in bilateral and ipsilateral strength ratios of all angular velocities. There was a significant correlation between 240 degrees/s HQ and COPX in terms of ipsilateral asymmetry ratios whereas a significant correlation was found between 60 degrees/s HH and COPX in terms of bilateral asymmetry ratios. It was found that there were differences in strength between PL and NPLs, but no asymmetry was observed. There was no high level of correlation between lateral asymmetry ratios and balance in female TKD practitioners.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Upper extremity arterial thromboembolism in a patient with severe COVID-19 pneumonia: A case report
Bilge, Aysegul; Karasoy, Ismail; Neziroglu, Elif; Güner, Yesim
Although novel coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) primarily affects the respiratory system, it can affect multiple organ systems, leading to serious complications, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ failure. Nearly 20 to 55% of patients with COVID-19 experience coagulation disorders that cause high mortality in line with the severity of the clinical picture. Thromboembolism can be observed in both venous and arterial systems. The vast majority of thromboembolic events are associated with the venous system and are often observed as pulmonary embolism. Arterial thromboembolisms often involve the arteries in the lower extremities, followed by those in the upper extremities. Herein, we report a rare case of COVID-19 pneumonia whose left arm was amputated at the forearm level after arterial thromboembolism in the left upper extremity. This case report is valuable, as it is the first reported case of upper extremity arterial thromboembolism in Turkey, as well as the only case in the literature in which the patient underwent four surgical interventions and is still alive.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Investigation of the Cytotoxic Effect of Ethyl Pyruvate on Various Cancer Cell Lines
Ayazoglu Demir, Elif; Demir, Selim; Turan, Ibrahim
Ethyl pyruvate (EP) is a simple aliphatic ester derived from pyruvic acid which is an endogenous metabolite. Although various studies have investigated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of EP, there has been only limited research into the cytotoxic effect of EP on cancer cells. The aim of this study was to determine the cytotoxic effects of EP on cells representing common cancer types. EP was purchased commercially and intermediate stock solutions were prepared with phosphate buffer saline. The cytotoxic effect of EP on human melanoma (VMM917), cervix (HeLa), breast (MCF-7), lung (A549), liver (HepG2), colon (WiDr) cancer and normal fibroblast (BJ) cells was determined using the MTT assay. Cisplatin was used as a positive control in cytotoxicity experiments. The results showed that EP exhibits selective cytotoxic effect on VMM917 (10.1-fold) and HeLa (3.04-fold) cells compared to BJ cells. This study shows for the first time that EP has a highly selective cytotoxic effect, especially on melanoma and cervix cancer cells. The mechanism of this effect needs to be elucidated by more extensive studies.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Does evaluation of tumor volume or/both origination site better guide to optimal surgery for inverted papilloma?
Sahin, Muammer Melih; Yilmaz, Metin; Zorlu, Mehmet Ekrem; Göcek, Mehmet; Düzlü, Mehmet; Sayar, Erolcan; Ceylan, Alper
Introduction: Sinonasal inverted papilloma is noted for its high rate of recurrence. Staging systems aid to reduce recurrence and avoid excessive surgeries by guiding the selection of the optimal surgical approach. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of different endoscopic approaches in inverted papilloma by assessing tumor origin site and tumor volume. Methods: Krouse classification system that is based on tumor volume was used for staging; furthermore, tumor origin sites were grouped as lateral nasal wall, medial wall and other walls of maxillary sinus. The main treatment method for all patients was endoscopic sinus surgery. Endoscopic extended middle meatal antrostomy, endoscopic Caldwell-Luc and endoscopic medial maxillectomy were the additional surgery types performed in different combinations. Results: Fifty-five patients (42 male) with a mean 54.9 +/- 14.4 years of age were included. 37 patients were diagnosed with advanced stage inverted papilloma (67.2 %). Recurrence was observed in 12 patients (21.8 %). In early stage lateral nasal wall origination, no recurrence was observed in the simple tumor resection group (0/10). In early stage medial wall origination, no recurrence was observed in the extended middle meatal antrostomy group (0/8). In advanced stage medial wall origination, the recurrence rates of extended middle meatal antrostomy, extended middle meatal antrostomy + endoscopic Caldwell- Luc and endoscopic medial maxillectomy were 100.0 %, 53.8 % and 13.6 %, respectively (p =0.002). In advanced stage other walls of maxillary sinus origination, recurrence rates of extended middle meatal antrostomy + endoscopic Caldwell-Luc and endoscopic medial maxillectomy were 20 % and 16.6 %, respectively (p =0.887). Conclusion: Tumor origin site, tumor stage and surgery types show an impact on recurrence. Despite the fact that tumor origin site singly could lead to appropriate selection of the surgery type in most cases, tumor stage carries substantial importance in selection of surgery type for sinonasal-inverted papilloma. An operation plan regarding both tumor volume and tumor origin site may aid surgeons in selecting optimal endoscopic surgical method to avoid recurrence or excessive surgeries. Purpose The objective of this study is to assess quantitatively how feasible blockchain is for various industries, such as logistics and supply chain, health, energy, finance, automotive, pharmaceutical and agriculture and food using a comprehensive list of indicators. Design/methodology/approach A decision aid was applied to the problem of identifying the feasibility of blockchain in Turkish industries. To this end, first, a set of indicators was identified. Then, the fuzzy AHP and fuzzy TOPSIS were utilized to assess the feasibility comparatively using the data gathered from a group of experts. Finally, a scenario analysis was conducted to ensure the consistency of our evaluation. Findings The findings of this study suggest that comparatively, logistics and supply chain, finance and health industries are the most feasible industries for blockchain. This study further suggests that blockchain is the least feasible for the automotive industry compared to the rest of the identified industries. Research limitations/implications It is cumbersome to find out the respondents who have sufficient knowledge of both blockchain and the identified industries. Even if we took the utmost care in identifying the right respondents, we limited our search to the biggest industrial hubs of Turkey. Practical implications The findings of this research may help various decision-makers employed in governments, conglomerates, software and consulting firms and national research institutions make more informed decisions and allocate their resources more effectively. Originality/value To this date, the current studies have solely investigated possible research opportunities in blockchain and demonstrated several blockchain applications in stand-alone cases. To the best of our knowledge, however, no single study exists that evaluates the feasibility of blockchain comparatively and holistically among a group of industries using various indicators.

Küçükosman, Rıdvan; Emine Şüküroğlu, Ebru; Totik, Yaşar; Şüküroğlu, Süleyman
Composite coatings were deposited on AZ91 magnesium alloys by micro arc oxidation (MAO) and the MAO-hydrothermal treatment (HT). The MAO process of Mg alloys was performed in the silicate/phosphate-based electrolyte with graphite particles size of 5-10 and 75 µm and then the obtained samples were submitted to hydrothermal treatment at 150°C in the graphite-ethanol mixture. The structural and morphological properties of composite coatings were analized X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The wear resistance was examined with ball-on-disc tribometer. The addition of graphite to the MAO electrolyte solution increased the coating thicknesses and compactness and the surface morphologies acquired relatively a homogeneous appearance. The coating surfaces were enriched in graphite by HT and the wear test results showed that the wear resistance of the graphite-doped MAO-HT composite coatings was significantly improved.

Şan, Murat; Akçay, Fatma; Linh, Nguyen Thi Thuy; Kankal, Murat; Pham, Quoc Bao
It is a known fact that the size, frequency, and spatial variability of hydrometeorological variables will irregularly increase under the impact of climate change. Among the hydrometeorological variables, rainfall is one of the most important. Trend analysis is one of the most effective methods of observing the effects of climate change on rainfall. Recently, new graphical methods have been proposed as an alternative to classical trend analysis methods. Innovative Polygon Trend Analysis (IPTA), which evolved from Innovative Trend Analysis (ITA), is currently one of the proposed methods and it does not contain any assumptions. The aim of this study is to compare IPTA, ITA with the Significance Test and Mann-Kendall (MK) methods. To achieve this, the monthly total rainfall trends of 15 stations in the Vu Gia-Thu Bon River Basin (VGTBRB) of Vietnam have been examined for the period 1979–2016. The analyses show that rainfall tends to increase (decrease) in March (June) at nearly all stations. IPTA and ITA with the Significance Test are more sensitive than MK in determining the trends. While trends were detected in approximately 90% of all months in IPTA and ITA with the Significance Test, this rate was only 23% in the MK test. Although the arithmetic mean graphs in the 1-year hydrometeorological cycle are considerably regular at almost all stations, their standard deviations are relatively irregular. The most critical month for trend transitions between consecutive months for all the stations is October, which has an average trend slope of −1.35 and a trend slope ranging from −3.98 to −0.21, which shows a decreasing trend.

Çiçen, Yıldırım Beyazıt
Institutional structure and quality of management are the main elements that form the political risks. Political threats are directly linked to the institutional structure and the institutional design. Political risks increase if the government mechanisms fail. Increasing institutional quality reduces the political risks and positively impacts the financial risks. Monthly data from different indices are used to analyse the relationship between Turkey's political risks and financial risks between 2002 and 2015. According to the Fourier analysis of cointegration, there is a long-term relationship between the political and financial risks. Besides, as per the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) findings and the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) models, an increase in the political risk increases the financial risk.

In this study, phenolic composition, and in vitro biological activities of ethyl acetate (EAE) and methanol (ME) extracts obtained from the aerial parts of endemic Tanacetum erzincanense were investigated. Total phenolic and flavonoid content of the extracts were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride colorimetric methods, respectively. Antioxidant capacity of the extracts was evaluated over radical scavenging (DPPH and ABTS) and metal ion reducing power (FRAP and CUPRAC) tests. Individual phenolic compounds in ME was analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-QTOF/MS). Cell inhibitory potential of the extracts was tested against colorectal adenocarcinoma (HT-29), breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), and hepatocarcinoma (HepG2) cells by 2,3-bis(2-methoxy-4-nitro-5-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium-5-carboxanilide (XTT) assay. The results showed that ME contains higher TPC (64.4 mg GAE/g) and TFC (62.2 mg QE/g) than those of EAE (41.5 mg GAE/g and 40.0 mg QE/g). LC-ESI-QTOF/MS analysis revealed that ME is rich in phenolic compounds, namely, chlorogenic acid, apigenin, quercetin, luteolin, and diosmetin. Antioxidant assay results indicated that ME possess stronger activity than EAE and a power that competes with synthetic antioxidants. XTT assay results demonstrated that although both extracts displayed a considerable cytotoxicity against the tested cancer cell lines in a time and dose-dependent manner, ME expressed its selective inhibitory action towards MCF-7 cells with an IC50 value of 20.4 μg/mL for 72 h. These results may serve as a basis for further in vivo studies to examine the potential applications of T. erzincanense in food and pharmaceutical industries.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ2Effect of using chia seed powder on physicochemical, rheological, thermal, and texture properties of ice cream
Ürkek, Bayram
In this study, a mixture of salep and chia seed powder (CSP) at different ratios was used as a stabilizer in the production of ice cream. The effect of the mixtures was determined on the physical, chemical, color, rheological, thermal properties, instrumental hardness, and consumer acceptance properties of the ice cream samples. The viscosity, consistency coefficient, lightness (L*), whiteness index, (Formula presented.) (midpoint and offset), heat ice freezing, and melting values increased in the sample containing 0.6% salep and 0.2% CSP compared to the control sample and then decreased in accordance with the increment of CSP. The highest hardness value was determined in the sample containing CSP (0.8%). The control sample and sample containing 0.6% salep/0.2% CSP had the highest consumer acceptance scores. It was determined that 0.2% CSP could be used with salep to decrease the consumption of orchid species and to improve various quality properties of ice creams. Practical applications: Salep (Orchidaceae family) is generally used as a stabilizer in ice cream, and species of salep is been extinction day to day. This study indicated that the usage of the mixture of salep and chia seed powder can improve the quality properties of ice creams. Consequently, the mixture of salep (75%) and chia seed powder (25%) could be used as a stabilizer to reduce using salep and to protect species of salep to improve the quality properties of ice cream.

BURNAZ, NESIBE ARSLAN
The study focuses on the comparative evaluation of extraction methods (ultrasonication and agitation) based on phenolic composition and antioxidative activities of Mammillaria prolifera and it is the first report on this subject. The effects of extraction conditions of temperature (25° and 60°), time (15, 30 and 60 min) and solvent type (water and 70 % and 100 % methanol) on total phenolic compounds, 2,2'-azinobis( 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl anti-radical activities and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power values were determined. Moreover, the phenolic acid compositions of the extracts were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography. The extracts prepared with the ultrasonic method showed stronger antioxidant activity than those prepared with agitation methods. In both methods total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity values were the lowest in the aqueous extracts. The results showed a positive correlation observed between total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities of the studied extracts. The optimal conditions for the extraction of phenolic compounds from Mammillaria prolifera were found as 60 min extraction time, 60° extraction temperature and 70 % methanol concentration by using the ultrasonication method. Notably, protocatechualdehyde, gallic acid, para hydroxy benzoic acid and ferulic acid were identified in Mammillaria prolifera by using the high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector system and 14 phenolic standards. Consequently, Mammillaria prolifera cladodes can be used in food or pharmaceutical practices, as a potential natural source of antioxidants.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of different warm-up protocols (deep feelings, massage, dynamic traction) on different levels of blood lactate and anaerobic power of athlete students. The present study was quasi-experimental, with pre and post-test design and a control group and also three experimental groups. After announcing, 36 students who have had at least three years of professional sports experience were chosen among qualified students and they were set randomly in four groups of deep feelings, massage, dynamic traction, and control. Wingate test was used to measure anaerobic power. The 894E Monark performed the test Ergo medic as a Wingate test. The blood lactate of the participants of each group were measured in separate sessions using the German Scott Lactometer (using hand blood sample). We used two methods of petrissage and testament in the massage group. In the deep feelings group, the 11+ protocol designed by FIFA to improve performance and prevent player injury was used to warm up and five major muscles (Quadriceps femoris muscle, Hamstring, Hip flexor muscle, Hip Extensor muscle, Ankle Extensor) were stretched. The results show that there was a significant difference between the results of an anaerobic power test and blood lactate in those four groups. Based on the Tuki test and attention to the mean of post-test records compared to the pre-test, the two groups of dynamic traction and deep feelings compared to the control group had significantly welled performance in anaerobic power and blood lactate (P<0/05) and there was no significant difference in the massage group compared to the control group (P>0/05). As a result, it can be said that all three methods of warming up including dynamic traction, massage, deep feelings improve the performance of the participants in the anaerobic power and blood lactate test compared to the control group and performing the students of deep feelings and dynamic traction group in terms of anaerobic power and blood lactate is better than massage group.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Scopus SJRQ3Investigation of the removal of sulfamethoxazole drug waste from aqueous solutions under the effect of zinc oxide/montmorillonite nanocomposite by photocatalytic ozonation process
Özyürek, Işıl Nihan; Kıranşan, Murat; Karaca, Semra
In this study, the synergistic effect of photocatalysis and ozonation processes to degrade the sulfamethoxazole (SMX), one antibiotic pharmaceutical compound, has been studied through the influence of main operational variables such as zinc oxide/montmorillonite (ZnO/MMT) dos-age, SMX initial concentration, ozone flow rate, pH and the addition of organic and inorganic scavengers. Synthesized ZnO nanoparticles were immobilized on the montmorillonite surface to prepare ZnO/MMT catalyst as a photocatalyst. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray fluo-rescence, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, high-resolution transmission electron microscope and N2 adsorption/desorption. The highest SMX degradation efficiency (80.84% for 30 min of reaction time) was obtained for the photocatalytic ozonation process compared to adsorption, single ozonation, catalytic ozonation, and photolysis. ZnO/MMT was more effective photocatalyst according to ZnO, indicating its usability as a promising photocatalyst for the removal of organic contaminants in aqueous solutions. The reduced degradation efficiency with the addition of organic and inorganic scavengers showed the important role of the photo-produced radicals and holes as well as direct ozonation in SMX degradation. A mechanism is also proposed for photocatalytic ozonation degradation by using the gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) analysis method. Finally, several by-products were identified by GC-MS analysis, which allowed to depict a possible mechanism for the sulfamethoxazole degradation.

The aim of this study was to identify antimicrobial resistance and virulence factor genes exhibited by multidrug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii, to analyze biofilm formation and to investigate clonal subtypes of isolate. Whole genome sequencing was done by Illumina NovaSeq 6,000 platform and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was performed by Oxford and Pasteur typing schemes. Influence of imipenem and levofloxacin on biofilm formation was investigated in 96-well plates at 3 replicates. The strain was found to carry OXA-23, OXA-51-like, AmpC and TEM-1 beta-lactamases. The sequence of the blaOXA-51-like gene has been identified as a blaOXA-66. According to Pasteur MLST scheme the strain displayed ST2 allelic profile. However, based on Oxford MLST scheme this strain represents the new ST2121, as the gdhB gene has a single allelic mutation namely, the gdhB-227. It was determined that MDR isolate carried bap, basABCDFGHIJ, csuA/BABCDE, bauABCDEF, plcD, pgaABCD, entE, barAB, ompA, abaIR, piT2EAFTE/AUBl, fimADT, cvaC, bfmR, bfmS virulence genes. In our study imipenem induced the highest biofilm formation at a concentration of 32 mg/ml and levofloxacin at a concentration of 16 mg/ml. In conclusion, we detected a new MDR A. baumannii ST2121 clone harboring blaOXA-66 gene that has been reported for the first time in Turkey.

A capacitive motion sensor that can detect human walking and motions up to a certain distance was designed using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as the primary sensor material. A read-out circuit was designed to detect capacitive coupling with the sensor material caused by the motion in the surrounding. The read-out circuit consists of sensing, filtering, and amplifying stages. A high-pass filter was used to avoid DC components, and to eliminate adverse impacts of 50Hz noise in the sensing signal, a sixth-order low-pass filter consisting of active Sallen–Key and passive RC filters was utilized. The signals obtained from the complete read-out circuit revealed that the sensor system could accurately detect human movements up to 2 m away. Also, different signal patterns were obtained from the output of the sensor system for various human motions.

Menevseoglu, Ahmed; Cabaroglu, Turgut
Turkish Raki is one of the most consumed alcoholic beverages in Turkey. The chemical and metal contamination of alcoholic beverages is a threat to human health and lowers the quality of the product. Ethyl carbamate and furfural are carcinogenic to animals, and have been classified as Group 2A and 3 agents respectively by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Factors, such as raw materials, process time and storage, affect metal concentrations in beverages. Limits for chemicals and metals in Raki have not yet been established by the Turkish agency. The present study aimed to evaluate the chemical and metal contamination of commercial Turkish Raki. Thirty-seven different types of Turkish Raki were purchased from local markets in Turkey. Ethyl carbamate (EC) and furfural (FR) levels were measured by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). Arsenic, copper, lead, and zinc levels were measured by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). None of the Raki samples contained EC. Furfural was not detected in commercial Raki samples but only in illegal Raki samples. Ethanol and methanol levels complied with Turkish regulation. Our data shows that commercial Raki from Turkey was contaminated by very low amounts of arsenic (<LOD-0.02 mg/L), copper (0.05-0.41 mg/L), lead (< LOD- 0.03 mg/L) and zinc (0.01-0.39 mg/L).
