- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Intersectionality in Social Justice: Unpacking the Complexity of Oppression
Suyahman; Karimullah, Suud Sarim; Syahril, Muh. Akbar Fhad
This study aims to understand, explain, and address the complexities of oppression in a multicultural and multiethnic society such as ASEAN. This study uses a law-based methodological approach that integrates intersectionality, postcolonial, feminist, critical race, and queer theories concerning international legal instruments. Based on the results of the study, mapping the landscape of intersectionality in ASEAN reveals how the interaction of gender, race, class, religion, and sexual orientation creates multiple discriminations, such as those experienced by female migrant workers, the LGBTQ+ community, and religious and ethnic minorities, who are often marginalised in legal systems and public policies. While international instruments demand protection without discrimination, inconsistent implementation of laws in ASEAN exacerbates existing structural injustices. Therefore, a transformative strategy for social justice in ASEAN requires a rights-based approach that focuses on empowering vulnerable groups, their active participation in decision-making processes, and legal reforms that integrate principles of intersectionality to ensure equitable access to justice. This approach can only succeed if ASEAN countries align domestic policies with international standards, strengthen inclusive legal systems, and empower regional mechanisms such as the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) to more effectively uphold human rights in the region.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1How does loneliness affect satisfaction with life? What is the role of the perception of God in this interaction?
Kaya, Feridun; Yazıcı Çelebi, Gülin
Introduction: This study examined the role of loneliness and the perception of God in affecting the satisfaction with life of Muslim individuals living alone in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the study explored the regulatory role of the perception of God in the relationship between individuals’ loneliness and satisfaction with life. Methods: The research is a cross-sectional study that evaluates individuals’ loneliness, satisfaction with life, and perception of God. The study group consists of 378 individuals living alone in Turkey. Among the participants, 196 are women (51.9%) and 182 are men (48.1%). The UCLA loneliness scale, the satisfaction with life scale, the perception of God scale, and a personal information form were used as data collection tools in the study. Results: The examination of research findings indicated that the variables of loneliness, perception of God, and the interaction between loneliness and the perception of God explained 28% of the variance in individuals’ satisfaction with life. We determined that satisfaction with life was affected significantly and positively by the perception of God (β = 0.28, p < 0.001) and significantly and negatively by loneliness (β = −0.38, p < 0.001). The interactional effect of the variables of loneliness and perception of God on satisfaction with life was also found to be significant (β = −0.10, p = 0.023). When we examined the details of the regulatory effect, we found that the effect of loneliness on satisfaction with life decreased even more in cases where the perception of God was high. Discussion: The research findings suggest that loneliness decreases life satisfaction, while positive self-image mitigates this effect. It can be stated that using belief-sensitive therapeutic approaches in the therapeutic process could contribute to alleviating the negative effects of loneliness.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3Lightweight Transformer Model for Agricultural Land Use and Land Cover Classification
Celik, Kemal
Observing agricultural land use via remote sensing images is essential for ensuring food security, estimating yields and planning efficient exports nonetheless precise classification continues to be difficult because of the varied and evolving characteristics of agricultural environments. This research aims to evaluate and optimize advanced deep learning architectures particularly Vision Transformer (ViT) models for agricultural land-use classification tasks. Specifically, we employed ViT-Base-16 and other lightweight models DeiT-Tiny and EfficientNet-B0 applying techniques such as model layer compression and advanced data augmentation CutMix and Cutout to achieve high accuracy while significantly reducing computational complexity. Evaluation was performed using three benchmark remote sensing datasets EuroSAT, NWPU-RESISC45 and SIRI-WHU which include diverse spatial resolutions and agricultural classes relevant for practical monitoring. Findings indicate that the optimized ViT algorithm is highly effective in recognizing global spatial connections, consistently achieving remarkable classification accuracy exceeding 99% on a newly assembled dataset containing around 200 samples of Google Earth imagery. Furthermore, for the first time in agricultural image classification compressing the ViT-Base model by pruning 50% of its layers significantly reduced complexity maintaining competitive accuracy 97.9% on SIRI-WHU. The resulting models are particularly suitable for deployment on devices with limited computational resources supporting real-world operational agricultural monitoring systems. This study emphasizes the revolutionary possibilities and practical use of optimized transformer-based models that offer scalable and efficient solutions specifically designed for precision agriculture applications.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2Exploring the Correlation of Physiological Stress Signals with Student Exam Performance: A Preliminary Study
K. Kasap, Ayşegül; Kurt, Burçin
Stress responses in real-world settings are less studied compared to controlled laboratory environments, limiting our understanding of their impact on cognitive performance. This study investigates the relationship between physiological stress signals and academic performance using an open-access dataset of 10 students assessed across three exam sessions (Midterm 1, Midterm 2, and Final Exam). Physiological measures, including electrodermal activity (EDA), heart rate (HR), and skin surface temperature (TEMP), along with exam grades, were analyzed using traditional hypothesis testing, bootstrap method, correlation analysis, and regression tree modeling. To address the small sample size, we validated traditional hypothesis test results with the bootstrap method, and both approaches were compatible. Hypothesis testing revealed no significant differences in physiological measures across exam sessions, supporting the null hypothesis. Grades differed significantly between the final exam and both midterms (p < 0.05). Stress fluctuations were also analyzed across three periods (beginning, middle, and end) for each exam, revealing temporal response variations. Correlation analysis showed a moderate negative relationship between EDA and HR (r = − 0.504, p < 0.01) and a weak positive relationship between EDA and TEMP (r = 0.417, p < 0.05), both intensifying during the final exam. Regression analysis explained 78% of the variance in grades (R2 = 0.78), with regression tree modeling identifying lower skin temperature (< 28 °C) and higher EDA (≥ 0.19) as predictors of poorer performance. These findings underscore the interplay between physiological stress responses and academic outcomes, emphasizing the need for further research and interventions to support student success.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ2The Analysis of Three-Dimensional Time-Fractional Helmholtz Model Using a New İterative Method
Şahin, Yasin; Merdan, Mehmet; Açıkgöz, Pınar
This paper proposes a novel analytical method to address the Helmholtz fractional differential equation by combining the Aboodh transform with the Adomian Decomposition Method, resulting in the Aboodh–Adomian Decomposition Method (A-ADM). Fractional differential equations offer a comprehensive framework for describing intricate physical processes, including memory effects and anomalous diffusion. This work employs the Caputo–Fabrizio fractional derivative, defined by a non-singular exponential kernel, to more precisely capture these non-local effects. The classical Helmholtz equation, pivotal in acoustics, electromagnetics, and quantum physics, is extended to the fractional domain. Following the exposition of fundamental concepts and characteristics of fractional calculus and the Aboodh transform, the suggested A-ADM is employed to derive the analytical solution of the fractional Helmholtz equation. The method’s validity and efficiency are evidenced by comparisons of analytical and approximation solutions. The findings validate that A-ADM is a proficient and methodical approach for addressing fractional differential equations that incorporate Caputo–Fabrizio derivatives.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Combined innovative trend analysis methods for seasonal trend testing
Şan, Murat
While holistic trend identification is essential, it does not consider the periodic, e.g., monthly, trend characteristics needed to identify seasonal trend behavior. Furthermore, identifying seasonal trends can help manage or regulate water resources systems and irrigation and agricultural operations. In this study, the innovative trend significance test (ITST), the revised ITST, and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, which are non-parametric methods, are proposed as alternative seasonal trend tests by combining them with the innovative polygon trend analysis (IPTA), which provides visual and linguistic examinations of seasonal behaviors. Groundwater level data from the Chilgrove House (United Kingdom), flow data from the Danube River Basin (Romania), precipitation and temperature data from Türkiye were used to compare the proposed methods with the seasonal Mann-Kendall (SMK) method. For temperature and groundwater level data, all methods showed an increasing trend at different confidence intervals, but for other data, trends emerged according to the characteristics of the methods. So, some of the proposed methods are more rigid than the SMK in trend detection, while others are more sensitive. In addition to the advantage of its applications to seasonal trend behaviors, the proposed significance tests are combined with the IPTA method and comparable alternative methods to the SMK. So, seasons with a clear increase or decrease can be seen visually in the proposed combined methods contrary to the SMK method. Thus, both seasonal trend behaviors and inter-seasonal transitions can be examined graphically, and seasonal significance testing can be applied. According to the characteristics of these combined methods, they can be used not only for seasonal trend tests, just like the SMK method, but also for regional trend tests using stations data instead of seasons.

Background: The enduring impact of children being subjected to sexual abuse is characterized by lasting traumatic effects. Aims: This study aims to assess the influence of perceived parental attitudes on the incidence of sexual abuse in children who have experienced such abuse, comparing them with a control group. Methods: The research took place at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of a hospital in northern Turkey and in the pediatric outpatient clinics of the same institution. The study evaluated 101 children who were exposed to sexual abuse and 100 children who were not. Data collection took place between November 2022 and August 2023. The study employed a ‘Descriptive Information Form’ and the ‘Parental Attitude Scale’ for both case and control groups. The t-test for independent samples, descriptive statistics, and logistic regression analysis were used for data analysis. Results: Analysis of scores from the Parental Attitude Scale revealed significantly lower mean scores in acceptance-involvement and strictness-supervision in the case group (p <.05). The mean scores for ‘acceptance-involvement’ (X¯ = 22.82 ± 6.26, X¯ = 25.71 ± 3.89) were highest in the case and control groups. Neglectful attitude (38.6%) was more prevalent in the case group, while the control group exhibited a higher frequency of democratic attitude (37%). In terms of predictors, acceptance-involvement (OR = 1.091, p =.005) and maternal employment (OR = 4.410, p <.001) were identified as the most significant predictors of exposed to sexual abuse. The study’s Cronbach’s alpha value for the scale was α =.743. Conclusion: The study’s findings on parental attitudes suggest a potential connection between children’s exposure to sexual abuse and inadequate parental acceptance, involvement, supervision, and control.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1An Examination of Relationships Between Postural Habits and Awareness of Fatigue and Musculoskeletal Discomfort in Nurses
Tuncer, Metin; Tuncer, Gülsüm Zekiye; Turan, Şeyma; Khorshtd, Leyla
Introduction: Prolonged fatigue, caused by the hospital's demanding workload and physical demands, can increase strain on the musculoskeletal system, leading to musculoskeletal issues that may negatively impact nurses' job performance and quality of life. High postural awareness, on the other hand, can help nurses develop correct posture and movement habits, reducing the risk of experiencing discomfort, thus preserving their physical health and supporting workforce sustainability. Therefore, it is of particular importance to determine the relationship of postural awareness to fatigue and musculoskeletal discomfort in nurses working in a hospital environment with heavy working conditions and many ergonomic risks. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the postural habits, awareness, occupational fatigue levels and musculoskeletal disorders of nurses working in hospitals and to examine the relationships between these factors. Method: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 132 nurses working in a hospital in Türkiye. The data for the study were collected between July and October 2023 using the Occupational Fatigue Exhaustion/Recovery Scale (OFER), Cornell Musculoskeletal Discomfort Questionnaire (CMDQ) and Postural Habits and Awareness Scale (PHAS). Results: A significant positive, low-level correlation was found between the Recovery subscale of the OFER scale and the Postural Habits subscale of the PHAS scale (r = 0.277, p < 0.05). A significant negative, moderate-level correlation was observed between the Chronic Fatigue subscale of the OFER scale and the Postural Habits subscale of the PHAS scale (r = −0.311, p < 0.001). Additionally, a significant negative, moderate-level correlation was found between the Acute Fatigue subscale of the OFER scale and the Postural Habits subscale of the PHAS scale (r = −0.326, p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study found that as nurses' correct postural habits improved, both acute and chronic fatigue decreased, whereas recovery increased. It is suggested that interventions aimed at enhancing postural awareness and promoting correct postural habits in nurses may also positively influence occupational fatigue and exhaustion.

It is very important to distinguish the reason of change in natural frequencies of structures either caused by a possible damage or environmental conditions as temperature and humidity. In this study, the changes in the dynamic properties of masonry minarets under environmental effects such as temperature and humidity were investigated. The Minarets of İskenderpaşa, Hacı Kasım and Tavanlı Mosques in Trabzon were monitored by ambient vibration test method, the relationship between natural frequencies and temperature and humidity was tried to be determined. For this purpose, the natural frequencies of these minarets were measured at certain intervals under different temperature and humidity conditions over a period of approximately six months. The vibration measurement system which was developed by our research team was used in the measurements. From the data collected by these measurements, the variation intervals of the natural frequencies (the smallest and the highest values), the percentages of change and their relations with temperature and humidity were revealed. This relationship was determined by using linear-nonlinear simple and multiple regression analyses. From the study, it was found that the natural frequencies change under environmental effects such as temperature and humidity, and this rate of change was approximately 7%.
