- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2019Eu-China relations: Current and future challenges and opportunities
Uğur, Ömer
While EU-China relations are often characterized by a clear divergence of values and political norms, the scope and size of the relationship between the two sides in the past twenty-five years has been remarkable. The basis of this development lies in the considerable expansion of the economic interaction and substantial growth in trade between the two sides since the early 1990. Relations between the EU and China are now so dense as well as complex. In this study, development of the relations between the EU and China will be discussed and it will also be expressed why and how much this relation is significant for both parties. While doing this, the main factors that enable the relations between the EU and China and that prevent aforementioned relations to deepen will be discussed and opportunities, expectations and problems these bring forth will be mentioned. Thus, this study will try to provide an answer why the EU and China experience significant conflicts and even come across each other from time to time in the recent years will be answered.

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ2Effects of wood preservatives on the combustion process and combustion quality of wood
Sadiye Yasar, S.
This study examines the combustion properties of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) in 3 stages (CWF, SC and EC) according to ASTM E 160-50 (1975). Wood samples were impregnated with Tanalith-E (T) and Wolmanit-CB (WC) and then were varnished with Synthetic (St) and water based (wb) varnishes. When the combustion was completed, the weight loss, combustion temperatures, illuminance values, total time of combustion, and demolition time were measured. As the result, illuminance value of Oriental beech wood decreased, while the smoke density increased. Scots pine was later destroyed in the combustion process. Areas with a risk of fire are advised to use pine wood instead of beech. Wolmanit-CB and synthetic varnish reduced the temperature and illuminance values. Oriental beech, Tanalith-E, and synthetic varnish resulted in the highest temperatures for all combustion stages. This triple interaction increased total combustion time values by more than 90% when compared with the control samples.

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ1A new use of the ant system algorithm for the max-mean dispersion problem
Cura, Tunchan; Özdemir, Muhlis
This study addresses an NP-hard problem known as the max-mean dispersion problem (MaxMeanDP), which belongs to a well-known class of diversity problems. In view of the increasing importance of parallel computing, this study proposes an ant system (AS) approach to the MaxMeanDP in which ants execute the search process in parallel. Moreover, by proposing a rather different use of the pheromone trail and visibility compared to the original AS, a new AS algorithm is introduced that runs in parallel. Our analysis indicates that the new use of the pheromone trail and visibility significantly contributes to the quality of the solution. The results show that the proposed method is effective, efficient and comparable to other approaches.

Saglam, Mehmet; Sarper, Bugra; Aydin, Orhan
An experimental and numerical study is carried out to investigate natural convection cooling characteristics of discrete heat sources in a rectangular enclosure. One of the sidewalls of the enclosure is heated by a pair of identical discrete heat sources, whereas the other sidewall is maintained at a constant temperature. The effect of the heat dissipation ratio of the heat sources on buoyancy-induced flow and heat transfer characteristics is investigated. Experimental studies are performed for a constant value of the modified Rayleigh number (Ra = 7.7 × 105) and three different values of the heat dissipation ratio (rh = q1 = q2 = 0.5, 1 and 2), whereas numerical studies cover the range of 104to 5 × 106 for the modified Rayleigh number and different values of the heat dissipation ratios between 0.25 and 2. In the experimental study, qualitative flow visualization studies are carried out as well as temperature measurements. In the numerical study, a commercial computational fluid dynamics code in ANSYS Fluent is used. The variations of the surface temperatures, the hot spot temperature, and the mean Nusselt number with the modified Rayleigh number and the heat dissipation ratio are obtained. Results are presented in terms of streamlines, isotherms, and heat lines.

Aktaş, I.
In this study, by using the Hadamard product representation of the hyper- Bessel function and basic concepts in mathematics we investigate the sign of the hyper- Bessel function x → J αd (x) on some sets. Also, we show that the function x → J αd (x) is a decreasing function on [0, J αd ,1), and the function is an increasing function on (0,∞), where j αd ,1 and II αd denote the first positive zero of the function J αd (x) and modified hyper-Bessel function, respectively. In addition, we prove the strictly log-concavity of the functions J αd (x) and J αd (x) on some sets. Moreover, we give some illustrative examples regarding our main results.

Duran, S.U.; Küçükömeroğlu, B.; Çevik, U.; Çelik, N.; Taskin, H.; Ersoy, H.
Background: The aim of this study is to measure the level of radon gas in the thermal springs of the four seasons in the Black Sea Region and to determine the gamma activity levels in the soils around them. Materials and Methods: Indoor radon activity concentrations of four spa facilities, namely Ladik, Havza, Ilıcaköy, and Ayder, were measured using CR-39 passive radon dosimeters and active radon monitoring AlphaGUARD for all four seasons. Radon activity concentrations in the soil in the vicinity of these spa facilities were measured using AlphaGUARD. Radionuclides in the soil samples collected from the spa regions were also determined using gamma-ray spectroscopy. Results: The highest radon value in the air environment in the spa facility was measured in swimming pools. Indoor radon levels in the spa's swimming pool vary within a wide range, (30-2118) Bq·m−3. The average radon gas levels in the soil around the Ayder, Havza, Ladik and Ilıcaköy hot springs were measured as 38±1 kBqm-3, 9±1 kBq m-3, 50±3 kBqm-3, 955±5 kBqm-3, respectively. Conclusion: The annual effective doses due to indoor radon sources changed from 0.6 mSv to 13.4 mSv for workers, and from 1 x10 -4 mSv to 3x10-1 mSv for patients. The annual effective dose equivalents from the soils around the spa were calculated to be between 82-558 µSv y-1. The results were compared with those of other measurements performed in different parts of the world.

Kahraman, M.M.; Benzer, H.; Aydogan, N.; Karadeniz, M.; Altun, O.; Dundar, H.; Gulsun Kilic, M.; Kundak, E.; Yilmazkaya, E.; Kertmen, P.
Mining as an industry is in the middle of commodity price upheaval that is wiping out many mining firms. Only the companies that have adapted right technology and data driven decision making culture will survive after each commodity price cycle. Latest technological solutions made it possible to track materials and equipment in every step of mining; from the face to plant to facilitate decision making process. Mines are investing in equipment monitoring technology with the expectation of gaining large increases in equipment productivity and reliability. Simply buying the technology does not result in achieving the promised benefits. Only a holistic approach can achieve these benefits, considering the people (analytical skills and culture), the process (deliberate means of using the data), and the platform (analytical technology). One of the principle methods for achieving this advantage is through increasing productivity and equipment health of major production equipment. This paper presents a case study using equipment monitoring technology as part of an operator performance system for a major machine asset: a dragline.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2019Working capital management and firm performance of turkish companies
Erdoğan, Mahmut
Introduction Working capital management is vital for corporate finance because of its contribution to shareholder value by maintaining the balance between profitability and risk. In particular, firms that invest less in working capital are assumed to have higher returns and risks, while firms investing heavily in working capital are assumed to have lower returns and risks (Banos-Caballero et al., 2012). Effective working capital management is very important because it affects the performance and liquidity of the firm. The main objective of working capital management is to ensure the optimal balance among working capital components. Effective working capital management is an essential part of the overall company strategy to create shareholder value. Therefore, companies try to maintain the optimal working capital level to maximize their firm value (Vural et al., 2012). Effective working capital enables companies to be successful and to survive, while poor and mismanagement is the main reason for small business failures (Tahir and Anuar, 2016). The primary purpose of working capital management is to provide the appropriate liquidity for the company’s sustainability and activities and to fulfill its short-term financial liabilities. Therefore, current assets and short-term liabilities are important components of total assets and hence careful evaluation of total assets is of utmost importance. However, working capital management is a complex task because of an inverse relationship between liquidity and profitability. While the primary purpose of any company is profit maximization, it also needs to obtain the appropriate….

Seferoğlu, Ayşegül Güneş; Seferoğlu, Mehmet Tevfik; Akpinar, Muhammet Vefa
The objective of this research was to assess the elastic deformations and permanent strains of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) material as a base layer when it is treated or untreated with pozzolanic cement under cyclic loads. A large-scale cyclic plate loading testing (CPLT) device was developed for studying the mechanical characteristics of pavement base layer. The laboratory test results indicated that when the RAP percentage of the mixtures increased, elastic deformations and permanent strains increased, but the opposite was true when the cement percentage increased. It was concluded that 100% RAP material can be used in base layers with 3% pozzolanic cement. The obtained deformation values and strain rates can be used as reasonable default design input values by pavement designers when using RAP as a substitute for natural aggregate base layers.

İncele - BildiriYalnız künye2019Paleomagnetic investigation of the Miocene - Quaternary volcanic rocks between Varto-Tunceli
Kayin, S.; Isseven, T.
After collision between the Arabian and the Eurasian plates, Anatolian plate began to move westward, along the East Anatolian Fault Zone (EAFZ) and North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ). NAFZ and EAFZ meet with the Varto Fault Zone (VFZ) and form a triple junction in the 10 km northeast of Karliova. In order to determine the tectonic evolution of Karliova Triple Junction (KTJ) and it's around, paleomagnetic samples were collected from the volcanic rocks, whose ages range from Miocene to Quaternary times. Our paleomagnetic results, obtained from the Karliova - Varto - Solhan region are indicate that there are counterclockwise (CCW) rotation in the regions closer to the NAFZ and EAFZ. different rotations are seen in the east of the KTJ, both western and eastern parts of the Varto Fault Zone. Also there is a remarkable change in the tectonic regime of the Tunceli - Elazig province in the Miocene - Pleistocene time interval.

Temizel, İrfan; Arslan, Mehmet; Yücel, Cem; Yazar, Emel Abdioğlu; Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Aslan, Zafer
Late Cretaceous felsic plutons in the Eastern Pontides orogenic belt of Turkey are found in varying ages, sizes and compositions. The Late Cretaceous syenitic bodies, namely Direkli and Yeniköy Tepe plutons in the Ordu area, intruded into the Late Cretaceous volcanics and volcanoclastics, and compositionally consist of syenite and minor quartz-syenite with mainly granular and rarely porphyric, poikilitic and perthitic textures. The studied plutons contain K-feldspar, plagioclase, quartz, clinopyroxene, biotite and minor hornblende, and Fe-Ti oxide, apatite, and zircon. Mineral thermobarometer estimations imply that the syenitic plutons were crystallized in P-T conditions representing mid to shallow crustal levels. Petrochemically, these syenitic plutons show I-type, metaluminous-peraluminous transitional (A/CNK = 0.85–1.04) and shoshonitic features. LA-ICP-MS U-Pb zircon dating on the syenitic plutons yielded weighted mean ages of 78.5–72 Ma. Primitive mantle-normalized trace element patterns of the studied plutons are characterized by negative anomalies of Ba, Sr, Nb, Ta and Ti, and enrichment in Rb, Th, K, Ce and La. The chondrite-normalized rare earth element (REE) plots of the studied plutons show moderately enriched concave-shaped patterns (La N /Lu N = 10.3–10.7 for the Direkli pluton; La N /Lu N = 6.8–11.7 for the Yeniköy Tepe pluton) with negative Eu anomalies. The plutons have 87 Sr/ 86 Sr ratios (0.705368–0.706954), 143 Nd/ 144 Nd ratios (0.512600–0.512672), 206 Pb/ 204 Pb ratios (19.29–19.52) and 207 Pb/ 204 Pb ratios (15.65–15.67). The geochemical data, as well as regional geology, suggest that the Late Cretaceous syenitic plutons have formed in an extensional continental arc setting triggered by slab roll-back. The parental magma of syenitic plutons was derived from melts of lower crustal materials (metabasalt/metaandesite) and lithospheric mantle component.

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ1Forecasting of Turkey’s monthly electricity demand by seasonal artificial neural network
Hamzaçebi, Coşkun; Es, Hüseyin Avni; Çakmak, Recep
Electricity is one of the most important end-user energy types in today’s world and has an effective role in development of societies and economies. Stability of electricity supply is provided by matching of generated and consumed electricity amount during the all-day. So, electricity consumption forecasting is an essential issue for electric utilities. In this study, the monthly electricity demand of Turkey has been predicted. To model the effects of seasonality and trend, four different ANN models have been developed and selected the superior one. In addition, the selected ANN model has been compared with SARIMA model in order to increase the acceptability and reliability of the ANN model. The monthly electricity demand of Turkey has been predicted between 2015 and 2018 via the ANN model that can make successful and high-accuracy predictions according to the performance measures. The forecasting values will help in determining the medium-term and stable energy policies.

- Kitap BölümüYalnız künye2019Social memory and cultural identity
Ak, Muammer
Introduction The social memory that reproduces itself through daily life practices is based on the knowledge and experiences of individuals about the past. Although social memory is nurtured by individual memories, it is clear that not all individual memories can be found in social memory. Because the recollections of the past are historical events to explain today. In this regard, recalling the past is as important as how the past is remembered. There is a mutual relationship between social memory and individual memory. In this context, individual memory affects social memory and also individual memory is affected by social memory. The individual is nourished from the social memory through the process of socialization and grasps the meaning of the world of culture and values of the society in which s/he was born. The coming up of the events in the social memory in daily life affects the individual memory and is transferred to the future through individuals. This individual interaction with social memory allows individuals in everyday life to reconstruct social memory. In brief, it can be said that individuals rebuild social memory by bringing the events that took place in the social memory into the agenda in their daily lives. Daily life refers to an area in which social memory is both reproduced and transmitted. It can be said that cultural memory is a formation as a result of the transfer of a certain life style, custom, tradition and the behaviors which have been continued….

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ2A fuzzy logic embedded energy management software with multi-agent system for a stand-alone PV power plant
Ozden, T.; Kesler, S.; Okumus, H.I.
The worst scenario projected for an off-grid photovoltaic power system is the time interval that the solar irradiation amount is in short to supply the load throughout the day, and this situation is resulted in energy deficiency. Nowadays, an off-grid power generating system, which is designed to consider the worst scenario encountered only during a certain period of time, brings through big financial problems in terms of the initial installation costs. This study proposes a smart software to perform energy management considering users’ comfort and their criteria, which are taking some information from the agents communicating with the consumption units wirelessly and the battery agent. All loads and agents in this system are initially defined by the user according to the importance of the consumption loads such as critical, essential, significant, lesser, and insignificant loads. The proposed energy management software includes fuzzy logic-based decision maker to manage load suspension or put the suspended load into effect again according to the state of the sources. The total amount of consumption is kept less than the total existing energy so that the energy to be consumed by the critical loads is always provided. Considering the existing amount of energy and consumer preferences, the total amount of load units is maximized at each sampling step. The proposed system, which is attained without compromising the user comfort, enables more efficient energy consumption. Also, for supplying the critical loads in case of lack of energy is possible.

Vural, Alaaddin
The purpose of this study is to assess soil geochemical data of the Canca alteration area (Gümüşhane-Turkey) using statistical methods and investigate potential gold mineralizations of the area. With this purpose, 288 soil samples were collected and analyzed for gold and associated pathfinder elements. The concentrations ranged (Au and Hg: in μg/kg, others in mg/kg) between 0,68-19,20; 0,02-28,97; 2-314; 7-857; 2,1-394; 4-199,5; 0,59-49,29; 5-89; 0,04-37; 0,52-16,30; 1,25-91,9 for Au, Ag, Cu, Pb, Zn, As, Sb, Bi, Mo, Sn and Hg respectively. According to Sperman’s rho correlation coefficients, although not very strong, correlation was observed between Cu and Au; Zn and Cu; Sb and Pb and As; Mo and Pb and As and Sb; Sn and As; Sb and Mo. The threshold values of the elements were obtained by median+2 the median absolute deviation. The prediction maps of the elements were formed by using the Inverse Distance Weighting and Kriging methods. According to prediction maps; especially in the western part of the study area and also related to tectonic lines, elemental enrichments, (gold and silver) were determined. Therefore, it is suggested to give importance to the west of the area in exploration drilling, geophysics, etc. Since the element prediction maps produced by the Inverse Distance Weighting method has higher resolution in anomaly contrast, it is suggested that maps produced with this method can preferably be used to give an idea at first sight in soil geochemistry studies.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ3Preliminary investigation of yoghurt enriched with hazelnut milk
Ilyasoğlu, H.; Yilmaz, F.
The present work aimed to investigate the use of hazelnut milk (HM) with dairy milk in the preparation of yoghurt. Cow milk (CM) mixed with HM (75:25, v/v) was used as the raw material for HM-enriched yoghurt (HMEY). The control sample was prepared with CM only. The proximate composition, physicochemical and sensorial properties, and fatty acid and sterol compositions were determined. The proximate composition of the HMEY samples was found to be compatible with dairy yoghurt. The HMEY samples were rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (mainly oleic acid), whereas the control sample had a higher level of saturated fatty acids. The HMEY samples had a lower cholesterol content than the control sample. They also contained phytosterols (mainly β-sitosterol). These findings reveal that HM might have a potential in yoghurt manufacturing, and that the use of HM might enhance the health benefits of yoghurt especially in sustaining cardiovascular health.
