- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Relations between Foreign Direct Investment and Exchange Rate Volatility in Turkey: Analysis of Symmetric and Asymmetric Causality (2001:M1-2020:M2)
Doganay, Muharrem Akin; Recepoglu, Mursit; Deger, Mustafa Kemal
The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between exchange rate volatility and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Turkey that adopting liberal policies in the post-1980 period. In this study, the relationships between FDI and exchange rate volatility were determined by symmetric (Fourier Toda-Yamamoto) and asymmetric (Hatemi-J) causality tests using the monthly data for the period of 2001:M1 - 2020:M2. According to the symmetric causality test results, there is a one-way relationship from FDI to exchange rate volatility. According to the results of the asymmetric causality test, there are two-way and significant causal relationships between the variables of FDI and exchange rate volatility. These results show the importance of reducing exchange rate volatility for the Turkish economy.

Fidan, Muhammed Said; Baltaci, Cemalettin; Öz, Mehmet; Akar, Zeynep
Vitamin C, enzyme activities, phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity, and essential oil analyses of ripe and unripe fruits of P. terebinthus were investigated. Vitamin C amounts of ripe and unripe fruits were 63.2 and 15.4 mg/100g, respectively. The main phenolic compounds of unripe and ripe fruits are rutin, syringic acid, and gallic acid. It was determined that the enzyme inhibitor activities in the ripe and unripe fruits were 0.136 mg/mL and 2.14 mg/mL. In all of the free radical scavenging (DPPH and ABTS) activity, ferric (III) ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) capacity, total phenolic substance amounts (TPC), total flavonoid substance amounts (TFC), and total antioxidant activity (TAC) antioxidant methods analyzed with plant parts, the methanol extracts obtained from the ripe fruits of the P. terebinthus showed higher antioxidant properties than the methanol extracts obtained from the unripe fruits. Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 showed antimicrobial activity against microorganisms, while methanol extracts obtained from unripe fruit samples did not show antimicrobial activity against the microorganisms used. The chemical grade with the most compounds in the essential oils of P. terebinthus were monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenes, and monoterpenes in unripe and ripe fruits, respectively. The main components were a-pinene with 22.8% and 27.3% ratios in unripe and ripe fruits, respectively.
- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2023Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, and Phytochemical Activities of Rhus coriaria L. and its Phenolic Compounds and Volatile Component Analyses
Öz, Mehmet; Baltaci, Cemalettin; Fidan, Muhammed Said; Karatas, Seyda Merve
Volatile oil analysis, phenolic constituents, antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity, vitamin C, and enzyme activities of the fruits of Rhus coriaria L. were studied. The chemical with the highest percentage was sesquiterpene hydrocarbons with 40.4%. The major compound was detected as caryophyllene (36.9%). The main phenolic constituents of fruit samples were gallic acid, syringic acid, protocatechuic acid, and 4hydroxybenzoic acid. The highest phenolic constituent of fruits was gallic acid. Ferric (Ill) ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) capacity (14.9 mg FeSO4 eq./g), free radical scavenging (ABTS) capacity (68.8 mg AA eq./g), ABTS % inhibition rate (98.0%), free radical scavenging (DPPH) (53.1 mg AA eq./g), and DPPH % inhibition (79.6%) amounts were determined in antioxidant capacities of the samples. The bioactive component contents of the samples were total antioxidant amounts (TAC) (32.8 mg GA/g), total flavonoid substance amounts (TFC) (73.8 mg QE eq./g), and total phenolic substance amounts (TPC) (41.4 mg GA eq./g). The results of the antimicrobial activity analysis of R. coriaria fruit samples showed antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes microorganisms. The amount of vitamin C and enzyme inhibitor activity in the fruits of R. coriaria were determined as 35.5 mg/100 g and 0.07 mg/mL, respectively.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Energy and Exergy Analysis of Solar Collectors Having Different Tilt Angles: Case Study of Erzincan City
Kaba, Muhammet Yasin; Kurnuc Seyhan, Aslihan; Celen, Pinar; Celen, Ali
Solar collectors are frequently used in domestic water heating applications. In the design stage, the positioning of solar collector with suitable title angle is important in order to utilize from sun energy efficiently. In this study, the effect of tilt angle of a solar collector located to Erzincan city on monthly/daily average radiation values, water outlet temperature, energy and exergy efficiencies are theoretically investigated. It is seen that the maximum and minimum values of optimum tilt angles are 63 degrees ve 0 degrees for December and June, respectively. Tilt angles which are suggested for Erzincan (27.14 degrees) and calculated are compared for daily average hourly radiation values and it is seen that the maximum variation is 26% for January. In addition, energy and exergy efficiencies of solar collector are estimated and the maximum efficiencies are determined as 74.2% ve 9.7% for optimum tilt angles.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF INSTRUMENT-ASSISTED SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION IN INDIVIDUALS WITH LUMBAR DISC HERNIATION: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL
Tas, Muhammed Usame; Usgu, Gunseli
Purpose: This research evaluated the effects of the instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) technique in individuals with lumbar disc herniation (LDH). Methods: Forty LDH patients were randomly assigned to a control group or an IASTM group (20 patients in each group). The IASTM group underwent a treatment protocol consisting of two IASTM sessions per week in addition to classic physiotherapy methods (hotpack, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, ultrasound and exercise) over a four week period. The treatment specifically targeted the paraspinal muscles, gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and hamstring muscles. All participants were assessed before treatment, immediately after treatment and two months post-treatment using various measures, including pain intensity visual analog scale, straight leg raise (SLR) test, slump test (measuring knee extension from 90 degrees flexion), 6-minute walking test (6-MWT), range of motion (ROM) and the Short Form-36 (SF-36) questionnaire. Results: Both groups experienced a significant decrease in pain immediately after treatment (p=0.002). However, although both groups showed improvements in post-treatment SLR, slump test, 6-MWT, ROM, and SF-36 scores, no significant correlations were found (p=0.208). However, the IASTM group experienced greaterclinical improvement across all parameters. Conclusion: The findings suggest that incorporating IASTM techniques into physiotherapy programs for individuals with LDH can enhance rehabilitation outcomes.
