    Yasar, Sekip Sadiye; Atar, Musa

This study carried out to determine the combustion properties of the sessile oak wood (Quercus petraea L.) which impregnated with wood preservative and subjected to surface treatments. For this purpose, the samples, which were prepared from sessile oak wood according to ASTM-E 160-50 combustion principles, impregnated with wolmanit-CB (WC) and tanalith-E (T) in accordance with ASTM-D 1413-76 and then synthetic (St) and Water-based (wb) varnishes were applied according to ASTM-D 3023. The combustion test was carried out in 3 stages, combustion with flame (CWF), self-combustion without flame source (CWOF) and ember combustion stage (ECP). It was aimed to determine the combustion temperature values in CWF, CWOF and ECP stage, weight loss, total combustion time and demolition time. As a result, impregnation applications have increased the total combustion time to between 15-18% and reduced the demolition period. The exact opposite results were obtained for the varnish types, the total combustion time was reduced by 19-21% and the demolition time increased by 10-22%. In CWF stage, the highest temperature was obtained in water-based varnished samples (490 degrees C), the lowest in non-varnished samples (458 degrees C); in CWOF stage the highest temperature in water-based varnished samples (572 degrees C), the lowest in synthetic varnished samples (544 degrees C); and in ECP stage the highest temperature in non-varnished samples (306.5 degrees C), the lowest in the samples with the synthetic varnished (262.7 degrees C).

AIlessphobia in Education and Academic Procrastination among Undergraduate Students in Sports Sciences: A Cross-Sectional Study

Gezgin, Deniz Mertkan; Erdugan, Fuat; Nurlu, Onur; Kedersiz, Sena; Temel, Ahmet

AIlessphobia in education refers to the anxiety, fear, and feeling of inadequacy that students experience when they are unable to access or use artificial intelligence (AI) tools during academic tasks. AIlessphobia in education, which has been proposed as a relatively new psychological concept in educational settings, may be related to students' self-regulation difficulties and procrastination tendencies. In this context, this study examined the relationship between AIlessphobia in education and academic procrastination in students of the Faculty of Sport Sciences. The study was designed as a cross-sectional study and included 313 undergraduate students selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a demographic information form, the AIlessphobia in Education Scale and the Academic Procrastination Scale. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis and simple linear regression were used to analyse the data. The findings indicated that AIlessphobia in education and its subdimensions were positively associated with academic procrastination. In the regression model, AIlessphobia in education was significantly associated with academic procrastination and explained 5.2% of the variance. Although the explained variance was small, the findings suggest that higher AIlessphobia in education levels are associated with higher academic procrastination. These findings contribute to the emerging literature on AI-related psychological constructs in education and indicate that academic procrastination may be a significant correlate of AIlessphobia in education among university students.

Evaluation of the process for acquisition of land property in the implementation of power transmission line projects

    Döner, Fatih; Kaya, Erhan

While preparing PTL (Power Transmission Line) projects, the land where the PTL is crossing is determined by considering criteria such as economy, environment and security. The realization of PTL projects is possible after acquisition of property of these lands. In this study, the process of acquisition land property in the implementation of PTL projects is evaluated. When data are examined, it is seen that the number of lawsuits filed against the PTL in past year was 15759 and rate of non-court settlement with land owners in the five-year period was 13%. The main factor for the high number of lawsuits and low settlement rate is real estate valuation studies in determining the price to be paid for land to which the PTL will be established. As land value determined as a result of valuation methods, criteria and rates referenced does not reflect real value in most cases, no agreement can be reached with the land owners. It is considered that most ideal solution from a legal point of view is to prepare a holistic valuation law that regulates real estate valuation activities, from an organizational point of view is to set a connection between cadastre and real estate valuation and from a technical point of view is to set-up a database which enables managing properties of real estates and their up-to-date values.

The investigation of mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber-reinforced composites produced with the use of alternative wastes

    Külekçi, Gokhan; Çullu, Mustafa

Various studies on the disposal or storage of the wastes generated due to mining activities have been carried out until today. With the developing technology, the use of alternative products instead of aggregates in Composite and the effect of fiber addition were investigated. The most common of these studies is the bending strength tests on the beam sample. In this study, solid wastes generated by mining operations were used instead of aggregate used in Composite. Beam samples were poured with the dimensions of 40x40x160 mm by adding 4-6 kg/m(3) polypropylene fiber to the mixture obtained by using these solid wastes; then, its effects on ultrasonic pulse velocity test, tensile test, and compressive strength tests were conducted. According to the results of these tests, it was found that the fibers had a positive effect on compressive strength and bending strength. Also, it was found that water absorption rates and densities did not have an effect, while the ultrasonic pulse velocity decreased with increasing fiber content.

A PRACTICAL APPROACH FOR TREATMENT OF MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER BY ACTIVATED SLUDGE PROCESS

    Nas, S. S.

This study deals with calculating reactor volumes using a graphical process in treatment of wastewaters by activated sludge process for discharge and carbonaceous biochemical oxygen demand (CBOD), different sludge ages, biomass concentrations, pollution loads and effluent soluble CBOD concentration. CBOD, measurements are carried out by using the standard oxidation (or incubation) test. Ultimate CBOD values are also estimated by the moment ad the least square methods. This study shows that the daily average pollution load of wastewaters is 352.5 kg d(-1) (monthly average discharge 20.4 1 s(-1), influent CBOD concentration 200 mg l(-1), activated sludge pond volume is 203-258 m(3) for different effluent CBOD concentration (50-40-30-20-10 mg l(-1) and biomass concentrations (3-3.5-4-4.5-5 g l(-1)) that are obtained from pollution loads volume charts. Therefore, data collection and the facility sizing are being illustrated by determining both quality quantity profile of a residential (KTU Central Campus) wastewater and the effect of the various parameters to the reactor.

Use of Piezoelectric Devices in Closed Structural Rhinoplasty

    Kaderi, Sina; Ekinci, Can

Background Closed rhinoplasty techniques are gaining popularity once again as more and more patients demand them. The use of piezoelectric devices (PEDs) is also another popular practice in rhinoplasty surgeries recently to reduce postoperative edema and bruising. Objectives The aim of this study was to propose a new technique in which all osteotomies in closed rhinoplasty surgeries can be performed using PEDs. Methods A comparison was made between 274 patients who underwent closed piezo (CloPi) rhinoplasty and 120 patients who underwent closed rhinoplasty using conventional osteotomy. In the CloPi technique, all osteotomies, including lateral and transverse osteotomies, were performed with PEDs using straight and 90 degrees curved tips. Preoperative and postoperative results obtained with the Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) questionnaire were compared to evaluate aesthetic and functional results. Results In the CloPi group, the mean age was 30.8 years (range, 18-60 years) and the mean follow-up period was 19.6 months, whereas in the control group, the mean age was 33.5 years (range, 18-61 years) and the mean follow-up period was 29.3 months. Significantly better results were obtained in the ROE questionnaire compared with preoperative values in both groups (P < .001). When comparing the postoperative-preoperative change in ROE scores between the 2 groups, the improvement observed in the CloPi cohort was significantly greater for all items (P < .001), except for Question 2-assessing the ability to breathe-where no significant difference was detected (P = .231). Conclusions CloPi rhinoplasty is an easy and reliable technique in which all osteotomies can be performed with PEDs. Successful surgical results can be achieved with wide surgical dissection.Level of Evidence 3 (Therapeutic)

    Reis, Catal H.

Photogrammetry has been used for medical diagnostic and treatment. Mostly used medical photogrammetric techniques are Ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) images. CT and MRI are the most effective method for the early detection of foot and ankle anomaly. Researchers have been developing various methods to detect anomaly. Many image segmentation techniques are available in the literature. Computer Aided Diagnosing (CAD) system has been proposed in this study for detection of foot bone anomaly by the analysis of CT images. In this study, a segmentation based on edge detection method is proposed for the classification of anomaly in foot CT images. Edge detection algorithms are the most commonly used techniques in image processing for edge detection. Canny edge detector is evaluated in this study. In this study, .dicom medical image standard format and ten male patient's foot CT images (245 images and 50 test data) are used. The used parameters are detector collimation of 64 mm, scanning thickness of 1-5 mm, and pixel sizes of 512x512 in radiometric resolution of 16 bits' gray levels. The proposed method consists of five major steps: (i) calculating the horizontal & vertical gradient, (ii) determining gradient magnitude and gradient direction, (iii) applying non-maximal suppression, (iv) computing high and low thresholds, (v) hysteresis thresholding are applied to the multi-detector computed tomography to detect the bone anomaly. In this study, automatic edge-based digital image processing techniques are applied to detect of foot bone anomaly. The proposed canny segmentation method enables users segment anomaly in MDCT of foot very quickly and efficiently. The results demonstrate that the proposed segmentation method is effective for segmenting anomaly. The proposed method obtains satisfactory performances in terms of accuracy and F-measure the area under Receiver Operating Characteristic curve (ROC curve (AUC)). The proposed segmentation method achieves an accuracy of 0.86 and F-measure of 0.92, respectively. Yildirim, Mustafa; Çakmak, Mustafa

Grain yield estimate from early segregating populations is an interesting feature of today's wheat breeding programs, and F-1 populations are generally recommended as the most suitable population by researchers. In the present study, we evaluated the population vigor of diallel F-4 offsprings of six bread wheat genotypes (Sultan, Bezostaya, Suzen, Harmankaya, Altay and Gerek) under irrigated (IR) and rain-fed conditions (RF). The experiment as two sets under IR and RF were established in the field of Anatolian Agricultural Research Institute, Eskisehir. The mean of grain yield (5468 kg ha(-1)) of F-4 populations in RF and IR had been lower than the mean of genotypes (5654 kg ha(-1)). The mean of grain yield of genotypes (7062 kg ha(-1)) under IR was higher than F-4 populations (6703 kg ha(-1)), while genotypes and F-4 populations were nearly similar under RF (4246 kg ha(-1) and 4234 kg ha(-1), respectively). The mid-variety population vigor for grain yield varied from -6.70% (Hrm/Grk) to 8.77% (Bez/Grk) under RF, and from -22.58% (Sltn/Alty) to 10.87% (Bez/Suzen) under IR. There was not positive significance population vigor in F(4)s. According to results under RF and IR, F-4 populations are observed as the most suitable populations for realistically estimation of grain yield performance of populations.

A FIXED POINT APPROACH TO FRACTIONAL INTEGRO-DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS: CONVERGENCE AND DATA DEPENDENCE

    Cona, Lale

Fractional calculus, which involves derivatives and integrals of non-integer order, is widely used in modeling real-world problems in science and engineering. This study focuses on solving fractional integro-differential equations using Picard's three-step iteration algorithm. We apply Picard's three-step iteration algorithm to approximate solutions and show that it converges strongly. The method is shown to be not only efficient in approximating solutions but also robust with respect to perturbations in the initial data and operators, demonstrating its data dependence. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical results and to confirm the applicability and reliability of the proposed approach.
