- MakaleYalnız künye2026A novel neutrosophic estimation method for handling uncertainty in population mean estimation
Yadav, Akhilesh; Yadav, Dharmendra Kumar; Yadav, Subhash Kumar; Zaman, Tolga
Estimating the population mean using auxiliary information has been extensively explored within the classical framework. While point estimators offer simplicity, they provide only a single value without reflecting the uncertainty or variability inherent in real-world data. This shortcoming is particularly critical in high-precision applications and decision-making contexts. Moreover, classical estimators are often vulnerable to the influence of outliers, which can distort results and introduce significant bias. To address these limitations, this study introduces a novel estimator grounded in neutrosophic theory, which is specifically designed to handle imprecise, vague, and incomplete information-conditions frequently encountered in practical sampling scenarios. The proposed neutrosophic estimator incorporates auxiliary information expressed in neutrosophic terms, offering a more flexible and resilient estimation strategy. We derive expressions for the bias and mean square error of the proposed estimator under a first-order approximation. A comprehensive theoretical analysis, supported by simulation studies, confirms that the neutrosophic estimator consistently outperforms classical estimators in terms of accuracy and robustness, especially in uncertain environments. These findings underscore the potential of neutrosophic approaches as powerful alternatives to conventional estimation techniques in modern statistical inference.

Yildiz, Oktay; Değirmenci, Atiye; Boyraci, Gulsum Merve; Aksoy, Canan
Bee products with their huge potential are becoming more valuable beyond food industry. Honeybee silk is non-utilized biomaterial in any commercial applications and even burned during the processing of beeswax. Although studies concerning insects silks are commonly on spider and silkworm silks, honeybee silk remains unexplored. Scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX) were used to identify chemical composition via elemental mapping of the native form of honeybee silk. Honeybee silk, in the form of thin layer inside the honeycomb cells, was processed through a series of steps to separate it from beeswax. Protein content was evaluated and revealed a composition of approximately 11.69%, indicating its strong biopolymeric origin. Amino acid analysis of honeybee silk performed by RP-HPLC revealed the presence of both polar and nonpolar amino acids, indicating a well-balanced amino acid profile. Antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-hyaluronidase properties of processed honeybee silk were presented. The methanolic extracts of honeybee silk were found to have higher total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity as assessed by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) assays than the aqueous extracts. While no antimicrobial activity was found for aqueous extracts, methanolic honeybee silk extract exhibited antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacilluscereus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Candida albicans. The hyaluronidase inhibition values (IC50) were found as 0.0094 and 0.0079 g/mL for aqueous and methanolic honeybee silk extracts, respectively. The aforementioned findings indicate that honeybee silk as a promosing value-added product is worthy of attention from pharmaceutical industries and future studies.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Entropy-based VIKOR and TOPSIS approaches for financial performance ranking: evidence from Turkish cement companies listed on Borsa Istanbul
Ayaydın, Hasan; Shırzadı, Said Abdullah; Balıkçı, Hasan Celal; Sharabati, Abdel-Aziz Ahmad; Barut, Abdulkadir
Assessing the financial performance of an enterprise is crucial for demonstrating the effectiveness of the management team, influencing investor decision-making regarding stocks, and meeting the expectations of lending institutions. Cement companies prioritise strengthening their capital structures to better withstand economic shocks. Additionally, these companies aim to use their resources more efficiently to reduce costs, increase sales, boost profits, and achieve faster growth. Accurate evaluations of the financial performance of cement companies are crucial for both the global economic landscape and their impact on the local economy. Consequently, financial performance evaluation models are essential for these companies to enhance their long-term financial results. However, to date, there appears to be no existing model that suggests periodic monitoring of the financial performance of cement companies based on their financial ratios. The current study seeks to analyze the TOPSIS and VIKOR multi-criteria decision-making methods, utilizing an entropy approach among publicly traded cement sector companies based on BIST, data between 2018 and 2020. The objective is to disclose the results of these companies and rank them based on key criteria. Additionally, a comparative analysis was conducted using the VIKOR method. The results indicated that the rankings produced by the TOPSIS and VIKOR methods were similar for 2020 and 2021, though they differed slightly in 2022 and 2023. Generally, BSOKE, KONYA, and BTCIM ranked as the top three companies in both methods, while CIMSA, BASCM, and CMENT ranked the lowest. Furthermore, companies such as AKCNS, CMENT, BUCIM, GOLTS, and NUHCM showed fluctuations in their performance. The study discusses managerial implications and provides recommendations for stakeholders.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Quantile-based neutrosophic regression estimators under stratified random sampling
Zaman, Tolga; Sozen, Caglar
The neutrosophic framework provides a convenient way to represent uncertainty and indeterminacy through interval-valued quantities. This paper proposes quantile-based neutrosophic combined and separate regression estimators for the finite population mean under stratified random sampling. Building on the combined and separate quantile regression estimators of Koç and Koç (Axioms 12:713, 2023), we incorporate neutrosophic (interval) versions of stratum-specific quantile regression components and derive approximate bias and mean squared error (MSE) expressions using first-order linearization. We provide efficiency conditions under which the proposed neutrosophic estimators improve upon their classical counterparts and we evaluate performance via (i) a simulation study comparing classical and neutrosophic estimators, and (ii) a real-data illustration based on monthly high–low index data (2010–2024) for the S&P 500, Nikkei 225, and DAX, where MSE bounds are reported for the proposed neutrosophic estimators. Across the considered experiments, the neutrosophic separate estimator at the 0.50 quantile attains the smallest MSE among the reported competitors, suggesting that a median-oriented robust component combined with stratification can be effective when observations are imprecise. Limitations and directions for further extensions are discussed.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Place attachment of earthquake victims residing in Antakya (Hatay) after the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes on February 6, 2023
Fakıoğlu, Merve; Mızrak, Sefa
People affected economically, environmentally, physically, and psychologically by the earthquake may be reluctant to move to safer and more comfortable places for various reasons. Investigating the factors that influence people’s place attachment after devastating earthquakes will enable the creation of sustainable communities and cultures. This study examined the impact of earthquake experience, preparedness, place-protective behavior, social support, insecurity, price increase, the surrounding environment, self-efficacy, and risk perception on place attachment among earthquake victims in Antakya following the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Data were collected via surveys from 453 earthquake victims in the Antakya region of Hatay (Türkiye) province, one year after the earthquakes. Eleven ordered logistic regressions revealed the strength and direction of the factors affecting place attachment. Earthquake victims who were injured, lost relatives, were not evacuated, and were not disturbed by the rubble had higher place attachment. Earthquake preparedness, formal social support, post-earthquake insecurity, post-earthquake price increase, self-efficacy, and earthquake risk perception did not affect place attachment. Sustainability and place-protective behavior increased place attachment. Furthermore, place attachment was higher among men and those who lived longer in Antakya. This study is expected to guide managers, disaster experts, and non-governmental organizations who develop strategies to increase people's place attachment in disaster-affected regions.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Effects of earthquake frequency content and isolation thickness on seismic behavior of a structure system resting on geotechnical seismic isolation layer
Ozturk, Kasif Furkan; Cakir, Tufan; Araz, Onur
Geotechnical seismic isolation (GSI) systems aim to partially dissipate the energy before it reaches the foundation of the structure system and are therefore regarded as an important alternative to structural seismic isolation systems. In addition, the use of petroleum-derived waste materials in the GSI systems fills a significant gap in the field of waste recovery. The present study investigates the changes in the dynamic responses of a 5-story building system with and without GSI, using a set of earthquakes classified according to their frequency content. For this purpose, parametric analyses were performed using analytical methods, considering three different earthquake frequency contents and six different GSI thicknesses. Furthermore, an approach for selecting the GSI thickness was suggested. The results generally show that, for structures founded on both natural soil (NS) and GSI systems, the earthquakes with low frequency content produce responses greater than the average responses calculated for all the investigated earthquakes. Although increasing the GSI thickness has a significant effect on attenuating structural responses, increasing this thickness beyond 3 m does not lead to a relatively significant reduction in the dynamic responses of the investigated structural system. Therefore, considering the structural system, NS, rubber-soil mixtures and earthquakes examined in this study, selecting a GSI thickness in the range of 2–3 m (inclusive) may be regarded as a practical approach for mitigating the dynamic responses of the structure since further increments in thickness beyond this range provide only progressively limited improvements in structural responses. Consequently, this research may provide meaningful data for the development of vibration control strategies to improve seismic resilience of structures, and the results are expected to be useful for better understanding of the GSI applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Utilizing Pollutant Waste Cheese Whey into Low-cost Broth for Bacterial Growth and Protein Production
Alkowlani, Amir Towfiq Hasan; Beldüz, Ali Osman; Çanakçi, Sabriye; Bektaş, Kadriye İnan; Ay, Fulya; Özyurt, Taner; Yıldız, Oktay
Cheese whey (CW), an abundant and nutrient-rich byproduct of cheese production, accounts for approximately 85% of milk volume and is generated globally in quantities reaching 145–200 million tons annually. Despite its biochemical complexity and high organic load, CW remains underutilized in microbial biotechnology. Its pollutant potential is up to 100 times higher than domestic sewage due to extreme biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), high nutrient content, and acidity. Untreated discharge causes severe oxygen depletion, damages aquatic ecosystems, degrades soil, and contributes to climate change. This study evaluates CW as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to synthetic bacterial growth media. Ten bacterial strains were cultured for 17 h in different forms of CW fresh, aged (up to two years), and dried and compared with standard Luria Bertani (LB) medium. Bacterial growth was assessed using optical density at 600 nm (OD₆₀₀), and protein yields were measured in µg/µL. CW supported growth ranged from OD₆₀₀ 2.36–4.46, comparable to 2.53–4.16 in LB, with protein yields between 0.19 and 0.43 µg/µL versus 0.18–0.44 µg/µL in LB. These findings demonstrate that CW can effectively support bacterial proliferation and protein production, offering a novel valorization route for a major agro-industrial pollutant while reducing environmental harm and fermentation costs.

Introduction: Bald ibises (G. eremita) are migratory birds that have been listed as near extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature since 1994 due to a dramatic decline in population size. As this species does not exhibit sexual dimorphism, reliable sex determination requires the use of molecular genetic techniques. The aim of this study was to establish an effective and practical molecular method for sex identification in bald ibises. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on blood and feather samples collected from 96 bald ibises housed at the Şanlıurfa Birecik Bald Ibis Breeding Station. The chromodomain-helicase-DNA-binding (CHD) gene region was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using the primer pairs 2550 F–2718R, 1237–1272 H, and P2–P8. PCR products were analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. Amplicons obtained with the P2–P8 primer pair were further subjected to restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis using the restriction enzyme HaeIII. In addition, high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis was performed using real-time PCR with primers 1237–1272 H. Results: Following HaeIII digestion of PCR products generated with the P2–P8 primer pair, male individuals exhibited a single band of approximately 350 bp, whereas female individuals showed two bands of approximately 350 and 400 bp. HRM analysis also successfully distinguished sexes based on distinct melting profiles. Both blood- and feather-derived DNA samples were suitable for PCR amplification and subsequent analyses. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that PCR–RFLP analysis using the P2–P8 primer pair combined with HaeIII digestion is a reliable method for sex determination in bald ibises. Furthermore, HRM analysis was applied for the first time in G. eremita and proved to be an effective alternative approach. These molecular methods provide practical and accurate tools for sex identification in conservation and breeding programs of this endangered species.

- MakaleYalnız künye2026A logarithmic-type estimator for finite population variance and its efficiency properties
Iftikhar, Soofia; Alamgir; Zaman, Tolga
This study proposes a novel logarithmic-type estimator for the finite population variance. We derive the mean square error (MSE) expressions, approximated to the first order, along with the associated efficiency conditions for the proposed estimator, as well as for several existing estimators from the literature. A comprehensive simulation study is conducted to compare the efficiency of the new estimator against these established methods. Based on the analysis of a real dataset, the results demonstrate that the proposed estimator achieves the minimum mean square error and satisfies all relevant efficiency criteria. Consequently, it is concluded that the proposed estimator outperforms the other considered estimators in terms of efficiency.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026The mediating role of attitudes in the effect of human and environment-centered value orientation on green cosmetic product purchasing behavior: comparison of different countries
Baltacı, Duygu Çinar; Durmaz, Yakup; Baltacı, Furkan
The growing concern for environmental issues has reached a critical level, demanding immediate attention. With the widespread integration of cosmetic products into daily routines, the escalating environmental impact cannot be ignored. Consumers are increasingly scrutinizing the environmental footprint of their purchases and the practices of manufacturing companies. To maintain their competitive edge, businesses must proactively understand and address the evolving needs and expectations of their consumers. This study aims to reveal the relationships between consumers’ environmental values, attitudes toward green products, and green cosmetics purchasing behaviors to guide decision-makers in the cosmetics industry. In addition, the study also evaluated the impact of consumers’ cultural backgrounds on their attitudes toward green products and their purchasing behaviors in the green cosmetics sector. We conducted a comprehensive online survey by collecting primary data from 883 respondents from 10 countries in Asia and Europe. Our analysis used partial least squares (PLS) with SMART PLS to comprehensively examine the interrelationships between variables. An ecocentric orientation positively influences attitudes and purchasing behavior toward green cosmetic products, while an anthropocentric orientation has a negative effect. Additionally, consumers’ attitudes mediate the impact of environmental attitudes on purchasing behavior and counteract the negative effect of anthropocentric attitudes. Cultural differences significantly impact consumers’ attitudes and purchasing behavior for green cosmetics. The study’s findings offer valuable insights for cosmetic companies dealing with growing demand for cosmetic products and environmental awareness. The empirical support for existing literature is significant, and the study’s structural model enriches the green cosmetics literature. It’s essential to consider both consumers and producers for sustainable green cosmetic production, ensuring profitability and encouragement for producers.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Fertility, family structure, and female labor force participation: evidence from Southern Europe and Türkiye
Beken, Hikmet Gülçin; Kirer Silva Lecuna, Hale
This study investigates how fertility, family structures, and institutional environments shape women’s labor force participation in Southern Europe (Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal) and Türkiye. Using balanced panel data from 2015 to 2022 and fixed effects models with Driscoll–Kraay standard errors, the analysis identifies a negative relationship between fertility and female employment, though only at marginal levels of statistical significance. Robustness checks using Ridge regression and principal component analysis confirm this finding across alternative specifications. Significant country-level fixed effects reveal considerable heterogeneity, with Portugal and Spain exhibiting higher baseline participation rates and Türkiye recording notably lower values. While the empirical model does not directly measure institutional support, childcare availability, or cultural norms, the comparative literature suggests that cross-country differences in these dimensions likely contribute to the observed patterns. The findings point to the potential importance of integrated policy approaches, including affordable childcare and flexible work arrangements, in supporting women’s employment alongside fertility.

Berktaş, Serap; İncegül, Yasemin; Çam, Mustafa
To protect phenolics of grape pomace, microencapsulation process was carried out with HI-CAP 100, Capsul TA, maltodextrin and potato starch. Encapsulation efficiencies of microcapsules were determined between 69–97%. TPC, TFC, and TAC values of starch-based microcapsules were in the ranges of 36–74 mg GAE/g, 14–28 mg CE/g, and 0.37–0.84 mg C3GE/g, respectively. Maltodextrin, with a value of 74.04 mg GAE/g, was determined to be the best coating material to retain grape pomace phenolics. Similar results were also seen in TFC (28.40 mg CE/g) and ABTS (128.2 mg TE/g) values. While water solubility values were found between 73–92% in microcapsules, grape pomace had 21.81%. The effects of coating materials on the release and bioaccessibility value of grape pomace phenolics encapsulated with different starch types in vitro digestion of oral, gastric and small intestine were investigated. Potato starch-coated microcapsules displayed the least TPC loss in gastric digestion and higher phenolics release in small intestine digestion. The microcapsule with the highest bioaccessibility in oral, gastric, and small intestine phases was Capsul TA, with values of 121%, 205%, and 120%, respectively. Additionally, potato starch-based microencapsulation of phenolics may provide alternative benefits like the slow and balanced release of phenolics in the digestive tract. Microcapsules with maltodextrin, Capsul TA and HI-CAP as coating material had amorphous structures, while potato starch resulted in crystalline structure in the microcapsules. Grape pomace phenolic starch-based microcapsules can be evaluated in the food and pharmaceutical industry depending on the intended use.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The psychological consequences of 6 February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes
Kiymis, Ibrahim; Fakioglu, Merve
The Kahramanmaraş earthquakes (2023) are the largest and most destructive earthquakes witnessed in the era of the Republic of Turkey. Earthquakes lead to serious mental health disorders (MHD) such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in individuals. Earthquakes that cause significant death and injury on a large scale, such as the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, can result in various mental health disorders. Therefore, the aim of the study was to examine the effects of variables such as PTSD, event impact, psychological resilience, depression, and anxiety levels on adult earthquake survivors affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, using a quantitative research approach with survey techniques. A total of 662 earthquake survivors were reached. The effect of variables on each other was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). According to the findings of the study, event impact had a significant and positive effect on PTSD (β = 0.780, p = 0.000). Unexpectedly, resilience did not have a significant effect on PTSD (β=-0.04, p > 0.05). PTSD had a significant and positive effect on anxiety (β = 0.936, p = 0.000) and depression (β = 0.643, p = 0.000). Consequently, event impact’s severity increased PTSD, which in turn led to anxiety and depression. Surprisingly, psychological resilience did not serve as a protective factor against PTSD. For future research, it is recommended to examine psychological resilience with different event types, on different sample groups, and using more comprehensive and varied methods.

An expeditious and precise slope stability assessment approach is required to mitigate the personnel and economic losses due slope failure disaster. This study successfully determines various discontinuity properties such as degree of fracturing, discontinuities orientation and persistence using combine unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and 2D electrical resistivity tomography (2D ERT) to evaluate the stability of the slope. The discontinuity orientations govern the various modes of failure such as planar, wedge, and flexure toppling. Whereas the degree of fracturing of the rock mass evaluates the quality of the rock mass using Rock Quality Designation (RQD) index. In addition, the persistence is defined as the extent to which the discontinuity on exposed surface rock intruded inside the rock mass. The 3D point cloud from UAV images allows to obtain the discontinuity orientations to analyse the potential failure at the site. The upper portion of the slope has no risk of planar and wedge failure, whereas 20% of the discontinuities are favourable for flexure toppling. In contrast, at the lower section of the slope 1.04%, 4.86% and 20% discontinuities are prone to planar, wedge and flexure failure respectively. At the same time the RQD index obtained via UAV survey reveals that the respectively area covered by very poor, poor, fair, good, and excellent rock were 7 m2, 3904 m2, 38,775 m2, 42,943 m2, 1546 m2. The ERT survey enable to estimate the area covered by poor, fair, good and excellent rock were 4 m2, 1650 m2, 2592 m2, 27,729 m2, and 55,200 m2, respectively. Both the UAV and 2D ERT survey shows the poor-quality rock in the north-east of the slope that reveals that the discontinuities are extended inside the rock mas. This study, therefore, conclude that the combined 2D ERT and UAV approach is efficient and expeditious approach for comprehensive slope stability assessment.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Kurtun Dam oscillate characterization with landslide possible effect detection using InSAR observations
Celik, Fatih; Sanli, Fusun Balik; Celik, Kemal; Celik, Ayse
Observing and analyzing areas prone to landslides is crucial due to the extensive destructive capacity of landslides. To monitor landslide activities across diverse areas, remote sensing data and image processing methods are employed. This study proposes a method that integrates Multi-temporal Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar and advanced temporal tracking technologies to intensify surveillance of the Kurtun Dam and its valley. According to Sentinel-1 A data, the net displacement rates of the dam crest varied between − 12 and 2 mm/year (LOS). InSAR technology surveys the entire dam catchment area, detecting critical infrastructure such as slopes, spillways, and access roads. The crest of the Kurtun Dam experiences oscillatory deformation during filling activities, but the lateral slopes and downstream abutment remain stable. As reservoir water levels rise, the dam structure exhibits downstream deformations, whereas declining water level results in upstream displacements. Monitoring points located the opposite Ozkurtun settlement and within the reservoir area, both facing the dam, exhibited displacement rates of up to -50 mm monthly. In regions susceptible to landslides, the greatest annual displacement rates were observed to be -54 and − 127 mm/year. This study suggests that integrating 3D modeling with InSAR technology into dam monitoring systems can significantly enhance their effectiveness. At Kurtun Dam and other crucial locations within the catchment area, the integrated approach combined with topographic monitoring, ensures reliable landslide detection and analysis. By advancing monitoring technology for embankment dams, this strategy prioritizes safety and structural integrity assessments.

Altundaş, Suna; Tanış, Abdulsamed
Recent earthquakes have adversely affected human life, highlighting the necessity of identifying structural and ground conditions to assess risky areas and mitigate potential damage from future seismic events. Gümüşhane, the designated study area, is susceptible to the impacts of a possible earthquake due to its proximity to the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ). Accordingly, vertical electrical sounding (VES), multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW), and microtremor methods were employed in the central district of Gümüşhane to characterize local ground conditions and to evaluate the resonance hazard potential arising from the interaction between structures and the underlying soil. Dominant period (T0) and frequency (f0), spectral amplification (A0), soil index of vulnerability (Kg), average S wave velocity for 30 m depth (Vs30), ground type, and soil-structure resonance hazard potential were determined. For the study area, f0 values between 1.32–8.91 Hz (T0 values varied between 0.11–0.76 s), A0 values between 0.93–7.63 according to horizontal/vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) analysis, and Vs30 values were between 390–886 m/sec to MASW. As a result of the evaluation of microtremor measurements made in all buildings using the floor spectral ratio (FSR) technique, the soil-structure potential resonance hazard was found to be low. The present study, conducted in Gümüşhane, examined the subject of soil-structure interaction.
