- MakaleYalnız künye2026Hydrothermal synthesis of do-TAB/CNP@NiO nanocatalyst for efficient photocatalytic degradation of acetaminophen: Characterization, photocatalytic mechanism and degradation pathways of drug wastewater
Kıranşan, Murat
This study reports a comprehensive evaluation of acetaminophen (ACT) photocatalytic degradation in aqueous media using hydrothermally synthesized Do-TAB/Clinoptilolite (Do-TAB/CNP), NiO nanoparticles, and a hybrid Do-TAB/CNP@NiO nanocatalyst. The prepared materials were systematically characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDX, TEM, XRF, BET surface area, and BJH pore size analyses, confirming their crystalline structure, surface morphology, elemental composition, and porous features. The photocatalytic activity was investigated as a function of catalyst dosage, initial ACT concentration, solution pH, irradiation source, water matrix, and radical scavengers to clarify the degradation behavior and reactive species involved. Under optimal conditions, Do-TAB/CNP@NiO achieved 98.50% ± 0.75% ACT degradation within 120 min, whereas the maximum efficiency reached 99.92% ± 0.82% at 10 mg L−1 ACT under the same catalyst dosage. Kinetic analysis revealed pseudo–first–order behavior, with apparent rate constants (kapp) of 0.0061–0.0565 min−1 for catalyst dosage, 0.0117–0.0599 min−1 for ACT concentration, and 0.0218–0.0350 min−1 for water matrices. Radical scavenging tests verified the dominant contribution of reactive oxygen species and the synergistic interaction between NiO and Do-TAB-modified CNP. The hybrid catalyst exhibited stable reusability, with degradation efficiency decreasing from 98.50% to 89.68% after six cycles. Under optimized conditions, pharmaceutical degradation followed the order MET (99.90%) ' ACT (98.50%) ' SMX (88.45%) ' NAP (86.90%) ' CIP (83.89%) ' NAL (79.17%). Compared with NiO nanoparticles (70.34%), Do-TAB/CNP (63.65%), and raw CNP (54.46%), Do-TAB/CNP@NiO demonstrated markedly enhanced photocatalytic performance, indicating its strong potential for pharmaceutical wastewater treatment applications in water.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Mechanical properties of polypropylene fiber-reinforced shotcrete based chromite flotation waste using a nondestructive testing method
Aksüt, Yavuz Selim; Seferoğlu, Mehmet Tevfik
This study examines the mechanical behavior and non-destructive assessment of shotcrete reinforced with polypropylene fibers (PPFs) and incorporating chromite flotation waste (CFW) as a partial substitute for fine aggregate. Shotcrete mixtures were prepared with four CFW replacement levels (0–30%) and four PPFs volume fractions (0–1%) and their compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and static modulus of elasticity were evaluated. Poisson's ratio and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) were experimentally determined. The effect of fiber reinforcement and waste incorporation on the mechanical behavior was evaluated through statistical correlation, simple regression and multivariable predictive modeling approaches. The results showed that moderate PPFs contents (0.25–0.5%) generally enhanced compressive and tensile performance while excessive fiber dosage (1%) led to strength and stiffness reductions due to increased heterogeneity, fiber agglomeration and void formation at high CFW replacement levels. Increasing CFW content resulted in systematic reductions in UPV values with an average decrease of approximately 3–4% per 10% CFW replacement indicating changes in matrix continuity and internal structure. However, these UPV reductions were not directly proportional to losses in mechanical strength or elastic stiffness. Correlation analyses revealed weak to moderate relationships between UPV and mechanical properties confirming that UPV alone is insufficient to represent the complex behavior of fiber-reinforced, waste-based shotcrete systems. Simple UPV-based regression models exhibited limited predictive capability for both compressive strength (R2 ~ 0.16) and static modulus of elasticity (R2 ~ 0.002). In contrast, multivariable regression models incorporating normalized UPV, CFW replacement ratio and PPFs volume fraction together with their interaction terms, significantly improved prediction accuracy. The proposed models achieved high coefficients of determination (R2 ~ 0.86 for compressive strength and R2 ~ 0.97 for static elastic modulus) with substantially reduced root mean square error (RMSE) values. Finally, the findings demonstrate that UPV can be effectively used as a non-destructive indicator for estimating the strength and stiffness of PPFs reinforced shotcrete incorporating CFW only when material specific parameters are explicitly considered.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Radio frequency heating of whole peanuts for microbial safety and quality preservation using interlayer displacement under stationary and moving conditions: Effects of salt coating and natural skin on heating behavior
Kahraman, Kubra; Tasci, Caner; Cakir, Elif Nida; Liu, Shuxiang; Soncu, Eda Demirok; Erdogdu, Ferruh; Ozturk, Samet
This study aimed to improve the efficiency of a radio frequency (RF) heating system for pasteurizing whole peanuts while maintaining quality attributes using a stationary position or continuous movement. Heating efficiency was evaluated using commercially available roasted whole peanuts: salt-coated skin-on, unsalted skin-on, and unsalted peeled peanuts. To improve heating uniformity and ensure sufficient microbial inactivation of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis PT30, a single interlayer-displacement strategy was applied in both stationary and continuous modes. Quality attributes including protein structure and fatty-acid profiles were assessed under the selected RF processing conditions. The RF system equipped with a conveyor belt was used to process peeled, unsalted peanuts inoculated with S. Enteritidis PT30 at approximately 7.9–8.5 log CFU/g. The three commercial peanut types exhibited differences in RF temperature distribution and heating uniformity, with salt-coated skin-on peanuts showing higher average temperature than unsalted peeled samples under the evaluated conditions. Continuous movement increased average temperature by approximately 10 °C but resulted in poorer heating uniformity, with a 3 °C higher standard deviation (SD). A single interlayer-displacement (overturning) step improved heating uniformity. This step increased Salmonella reductions from 3.41 to 4.77 log CFU/g under stationary processing and from 2.92 to 4.22 log CFU/g under continuous processing after 60 min of RF heating. The evaluated protein and lipid quality characteristics of unsalted peeled peanuts remained largely unchanged following RF processing. Overall, these findings demonstrated the potential of RF heating combined with interlayer displacement for microbial decontamination of unsalted peeled whole peanuts while maintaining the quality attributes evaluated in this study.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Radiation shielding performance and microstructural characterization of Al–Cu-Sc/B4C nanocomposites
Şirin, Murat; Kaya, Selim; Temiz, Cengiz; Çağlar, Seyit
This study investigates the gamma-ray and fast-neutron shielding performance of Al–Cu–Sc/B4C nanocomposites containing 0–20 wt% boron carbide (B4C). The composites were produced using melt spinning, high-energy ball milling, and vacuum sintering techniques. Their structural and microstructural characteristics were examined by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Gamma-ray attenuation properties were measured experimentally at photon energies of 0.662, 1.173, and 1.333 MeV using a high-purity germanium detector. In addition, theoretical calculations were carried out in the 0.05–2.50 MeV energy range using Monte Carlo simulations together with the Phy-X/PSD calculation platform. Several radiation shielding parameters were evaluated, including the mass attenuation coefficient, half-value layer, mean free path, radiation protection efficiency, effective atomic number, and fast-neutron removal cross-section. The results show that the incorporation of B4C improves the fast-neutron shielding capability of the composites. The sample containing 20 wt% B4C exhibits an increase of approximately 32% in fast-neutron removal cross-section compared with the reference alloy. A slight reduction in gamma-ray attenuation is observed at low photon energy, whereas the shielding performance at medium and high energies remains nearly unchanged. These findings indicate that Al–Cu–Sc/B4C nanocomposites are promising lightweight and lead-free candidates for shielding against mixed gamma and neutron radiation. Their low density and the absence of toxic lead support potential applications in medical radiation facilities, nuclear technology systems, aerospace platforms, and industrial radiation environments where both radiation protection and weight reduction are important.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026A multi-scale context-aware deep learning framework for medical disease diagnosis
Reis, Hatice Catal; Turk, Veysel
Early and accurate diagnosis of brain tumors, skin lesions, and diabetic retinopathy is essential for effective treatment planning and improving patient prognosis. Nevertheless, the diagnostic process for these conditions remains challenging due to the reliance on conventional methods, which are often subjective, time-intensive, and dependent on expert interpretation. In this context, deep learning-based approaches offer promising opportunities to enhance diagnostic precision and support clinical decision-making. This study introduces BSCRADNet, a novel deep learning model designed for the automated diagnosis of oncological and retinopathic diseases. The proposed architecture employs a multi-layered analytical framework that integrates local and spatial features with long-range contextual dependencies, enabling the effective recognition of complex morphological patterns in medical images. By enhancing diagnostic consistency, BSCRADNet reduces the risk of misclassification—particularly in cases characterized by high inter-observer variability or subtle lesion presentation. The model demonstrated strong performance across multiple datasets, achieving classification accuracies of 94.67% for brain tumors, 89.58% for skin cancer, and 90.40% for diabetic retinopathy. Furthermore, to improve the discriminative power of feature representations across diverse disease categories, a composite hybrid architecture combining BSCRADNet with ResMLP was developed. This hybrid model yielded competitive results, with accuracies of 93.33%, 88.19%, and 87.40% for the respective diagnostic tasks. Experimental findings indicate that the proposed approach is capable of distinguishing intricate patterns in medical imaging data and holds significant potential for integration into clinical diagnostic workflows, contributing to more reliable and efficient disease classification.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Natural (226Ra, 232Th, 40K) and artificial (137Cs) radioactivity assessment of Kırkpavli and Hazine Cave ore deposits, Gümüşhane (Türkiye): Radiological risk and material utilization perspective
Vural, Alaaddin; Kaya, Ali
Environmental radioactivity is a critical factor for both ecological and human health risk assessment, particularly in mining regions with ongoing or historical settlement activities. This study evaluates natural and artificial radionuclide concentrations in soils from the Kırkpavli (KP) and Hazine Cave (HM) mining areas in Gümüşhane, northeastern Türkiye. Gamma spectrometry analyses were performed to measure 232Th, 226Ra, 40K, and 137Cs, and radiological risk indicators—including absorbed dose rates, annual effective dose, radium equivalent activity, hazard indices (Hex and Hin), Excess Lifetime Cancer Risk (ECLR), Activity Utilization Index (AUI), radon-related alpha index, and natural radioactivity-driven heat production (RHP)—were assessed. Results: showed spatial variability linked to lithology, with the HM site exhibiting elevated radionuclide levels in basalt-dominated units, while KP soils showed moderate values in sedimentary formations. Most radiological parameters remained below international safety limits; however, specific sampling points, particularly HM-2, exceeded thresholds, indicating potential health risks if the soils are used for local settlement, building materials, or domestic purposes. RHP analysis further identified areas of intense hydrothermal alteration correlating with higher natural radioactivity. Comparisons with international soils and rocks confirmed that the activity concentrations at both sites are comparable to or exceed global averages. These findings highlight the necessity of ongoing monitoring of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in inhabited mining regions and provide essential data for ensuring environmental safety, sustainable land and material use, and public health protection.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Impact of soil-structure interaction on earthquake response of high-rise steel frames equipped with TMD and FTMD optimized through cloud drift optimization
Alibabaei Shahraki, Mohammad; Araz, Onur; Ahmadi, Hossein
Vibration control of tall buildings under various seismic and foundation conditions remains a critical issue in earthquake engineering. This paper investigates the performance of Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) and Friction Tuned Mass Damper (FTMD) systems in reducing the seismic response of fixed-base and Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) analyses of 20- and 40-storey steel moment-resisting frames. The current study uses the OpenSees software and the Cloud Drift Optimization (CDO) technique, aiming at minimizing the normalized H 2 -norm of the roof displacement. The performance of the seismic control is investigated by performing nonlinear dynamics analyses with the help of a set of 14 records, of which 7 records are far-field and the remaining ones are near-field records. Results show that both TMD and FTMD are effective in decreasing roof displacement on 20- and 40-story buildings subjected to fixed-base and SSI excitations. More precisely, results for the average reduction in roof displacement are 33.4% and 27% when FTMD is subjected to SSI loading, while those values were 10.7% and 16.5% when TMD was subjected to SSI loading in the case of 20- and 40-story buildings, respectively. Results are based on multiple variables including base shear, kinetic energy, and damping energy. The results demonstrate that the FTMD system provides superior seismic response reduction compared to the conventional TMD.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Freeze–ohmic thawing: A novel pretreatment strategy for cold-pressed black cumin oil production
Tunç, Merve Tuğçe
Cold pressing is one of the most preferred techniques for producing high-quality vegetable oils; however, its relatively low extraction efficiency remains a major limitation. Although ohmic thawing has been investigated as a rapid thawing technique for frozen foods, its application as a pretreatment prior to cold-press oil extraction has not yet been reported. Therefore, this study investigated, for the first time, the potential of freeze–thawing (FT) and freeze-ohmic thawing (FOT) as pretreatment strategies to enhance the recovery and preserve the quality of cold-pressed black cumin oil. FT and FOT pretreatments were applied for one, two, and three cycles before cold pressing, and the extracted oils were comparatively evaluated in terms of oil recovery, physicochemical properties, antioxidant characteristics, FTIR, aroma profile, and fatty acid composition. Both FT and FOT significantly improved oil recovery compared with the untreated control. While FT2 increased the extraction yield to 51.68 ± 2.21%, FOT2 achieved the highest extraction yield (63.11 ± 1.50%), corresponding to a 41% increase over the control. FTIR analysis confirmed the preservation of the characteristic functional groups of black cumin oil following both pretreatments. Thymoquinone was largely preserved, with only a slight reduction in FT2. Likewise, the fatty acid profile remained stable, with no significant differences (p > 0.05) among treatments. These findings demonstrate, for the first time, that freeze-ohmic thawing can be successfully employed as a pretreatment prior to cold pressing, substantially improving black cumin oil recovery while preserving its physicochemical, structural, and compositional quality.
- Derleme MakaleYalnız künye2026A review study of recent advancements in polymer heat exchanger technology in the aspect of heat transfer
Celen, Ali; Budak, Selahattin; Celen, Pınar; Dalkılıç, Ahmet Selim
Many applications use metallic heat exchangers, but some operating conditions, such as desalination, exhibit wear and corrosion problems. Thus, it is important to develop and use alternative materials to metals for such conditions. Although polymers have low thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, cost-effectiveness, and lightweight, polymer heat exchangers can be constructed to overcome this problem. They were introduced in the last decades; advancements in 3D printing technology help manufacture complex, novel, and thin heat transfer surfaces. Although review studies are limited, recent research has not explored heat transfer-based reviews of heat exchangers produced by additive manufacturing and polymer hollow fibre methods. In this study, polymer heat exchanger works were reviewed and classified according to tube diameter as polymer and polymeric hollow fibre heat exchangers as the most updated ones. Generally, the studies focused on the thermal performance of heat exchangers constructed with metal and polymer materials, and the results were compared to determine the usability of polymer-based ones. As a result, polymeric hollow fibre heat exchangers may compete with metallic ones due to low wall resistance and enhanced heat transfer surface area because of the development of manufacturing technology. Also, the cost and weight of polymeric hollow fibre exchangers are lower, and they can be operated under corrosive conditions. Finally, it is obvious that increased research is needed to enhance the properties of polymer materials to increase the performance of this type of heat exchanger.

Yilmaz Çelik, Damla; Vaheddoost, Babak; Aras, Egemen; Şibil, Rahim
The accuracy of field measurements obtained from aeration tanks is of critically important for the validation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models. In many cases, the employed validation metrics serve as a fundamental keystone for evaluating both the credibility of experimental data and the accuracy of numerical simulations. In this study, a novel data refinement approach is developed to assess the physical plausibility of velocity measurements collected from a full-scale aeration tank. Unlike conventional validation approaches, the CFD model is utilized as a reference framework within a reverse-approach perspective to evaluate the reliability of field data. Measurement points affected by acoustic noise, surface sludge interference, and turbulence near static structures were identified and excluded through curve-fitting and statistical filtering techniques. Velocity data obtained with the help of an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) across six lateral and 53 vertical layers were evaluated using the Coefficient of Determination (R2), Relative Error (RE), and Performance Index (PI) metrics. The maximum-elimination combined with polynomial fitting notably enhanced the model accuracy, reducing RE from −123 % to 20 %, increasing R2from 0.054 to 0.96, and improving PI from 2.6 to 1.16. As a result, the refined dataset provided a more consistent and realistic representation of the flow structure and established a robust observational basis for the future calibration.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Food reward sensitivity mediates the association between chemosensory pleasure and adiposity in young adults
Kurtbeyoglu, Emine; Caferoglu Akin, Zeynep; Aslan Gonul, Busra
This cross-sectional study investigated whether food reward sensitivity mediates the association between chemosensory pleasure and adiposity in young adults. A total of 300 university students completed the Chemosensory Pleasure Scale (CPS), the Power of Food Scale (PFS), and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), alongside anthropometric assessments. Chemosensory pleasure was strongly and positively associated with food reward sensitivity (β = 0.620, p < .001), and this relationship remained robust after adjustment for age, sex, BMI, and depressive symptoms. While chemosensory pleasure showed only weak direct associations with adiposity indicators, food reward sensitivity was positively associated with body fat percentage. Mediation analyses demonstrated a significant indirect effect of chemosensory pleasure on body fat percentage through food reward sensitivity (indirect effect = 0.105; 95% CI: 0.039–0.179), indicating an indirect-only pathway. Although sex-stratified analyses suggested some pattern differences, moderated mediation analyses did not support a significant moderating role of sex. These findings suggest that chemosensory pleasure may be related to adiposity primarily when accompanied by increased food reward sensitivity. The results highlight food reward sensitivity as a potential psychological mechanism linking sensory responsiveness to adiposity.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Valorization of Moss biomass as a natural porous Matrix for shape-stable phase change material (PCM) composites
Can, Ahmet; Ganguly, Sauradipta; Gencel, Osman; Sarı, Ahmet; Erata, Hüseyin
Phase change materials (PCMs) are used to improve energy efficiency, particularly in building heat storage and passive thermal management applications. In this study, moss biomass ( Calliergonella cuspidata (Hedw.) Loeske) (Ca) was evaluated as a natural porous matrix, and a novel non leachable composite phase change material (PCM) was developed based on n-octadecane (n-OD). The moss biomass was impregnated with 60% n-OD by direct mixing method, and its structural stability was enhanced by the addition of Sodium silicate (SS) at 10% and 30% (by wt%) respectively. The morphological, chemical, and thermal properties of the composites were characterized by SEM, EDS, FTIR, DSC, TGA, XRD, and thermal conductivity analyses. SEM-EDS results showed that the moss biomass (Ca) had high porosity, with the addition of SS resulting in a more compact and homogeneous structure. FTIR analyses exhibited the formation of Si–O–Si bands, indicating successful integration of SS into the matrix. According to DSC analysis, the Ca/n-OD(60%) composite had a melting temperature of 26.1 °C and a melting enthalpy of 153.7 J/g whereas for the SS-added variants, these values were measured as 148.3 J/g (10%) and 144.2 J/g (30%), respectively. The enthalpy losses of only 2–3 J/g after 700 heating-cooling cycles indicated high thermal stability. TGA and XRD analyses showed that the addition of SS increased the thermal resistance of the composites, creating an amorphous network structure. The results indicate that moss-based Ca/n-OD/SS composites, with their compact, leak-free structure, high heat storage capacity, and excellent cyclic stability, hold promise as eco‑friendly materials for subsequent applications in: thermal energy storage for buildings, solar energy systems, and the thermal management of electronic components.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Valorization of tea industry waste into boric acid–activated carbon for phenol removal from aqueous solutions
Duran, Celal; Ozdes, Duygu; Ozdemir, Olcay; Onal, Yunus; Gundogdu, Ali
The tea industry generates substantial quantities of solid waste with limited high-value industrial applications. In this study, tea industry waste was converted into boric acid-activated carbon (BA–TAC) through a simple one-step chemical activation process and evaluated as an adsorbent for phenol removal from aqueous solutions. BA–TAC exhibited a mixed micro–mesoporous structure with a BET surface area of 592.59 m2 g−1. The adsorption performance was investigated as a function of solution pH, contact time, and initial phenol concentration. Adsorption kinetics were evaluated using pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, Elovich, Avrami, and intraparticle diffusion models, whereas equilibrium data were analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Sips isotherms. Linear, pseudo-linear, and non-linear regression approaches were comparatively evaluated, demonstrating the limitations of conventional linearization and the superiority of direct non-linear regression. Moreover, the so-called linearized forms of multi-parameter models such as Sips are not truly linear because iterative parameter estimation remains necessary. The maximum experimental phenol adsorption capacity reached 101.80 mg g−1 despite the moderate BET surface area of BA–TAC. The experimentally determined natural pH and pHpzc values, together with the limited desorption efficiency, indicated that adsorption was governed predominantly by surface chemical interactions rather than electrostatic attraction alone. XPS analysis confirmed the incorporation of boron-containing surface functionalities, highlighting their contribution to phenol adsorption. Overall, this study demonstrates the successful valorization of tea industry waste into a functional boron-modified activated carbon while providing methodological guidance for reliable adsorption kinetics and equilibrium modeling, thereby supporting sustainable waste valorization.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Assessment of gamma-ray attenuation properties in advanced ceramics incorporating colemanite, pyrophyllite, and plastic clay
Uysal, Turan; Kaya, Selim
This study investigates the gamma-ray and neutron shielding performance of advanced ceramic composites containing colemanite, pyrophyllite, and plastic clay as environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional lead-based shielding materials. Gamma-ray attenuation properties were evaluated over the energy range of 59.54–2000 keV using theoretical calculations from WinXCOM and Monte Carlo simulations performed with the EGS4 code. Excellent agreement between the two methods confirmed the reliability of the simulation results. The mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ) decreased with increasing photon energy due to the transition from photoelectric absorption to Compton scattering and pair production mechanisms. Correspondingly, the half-value layer (HVL) and mean free path (MFP) increased, while radiation protection efficiency (RPE) decreased with photon energy. The effective atomic number (Zeff) exhibited an energy-dependent decline, reflecting changes in dominant photon–matter interaction processes. Neutron shielding performance improved with increasing colemanite content owing to the presence of boron-rich phases, and Sample-5 exhibited the highest fast neutron removal cross-section (ΣR = 0.11062 cm−1). The same sample also showed the highest gamma-ray kerma coefficients, indicating enhanced energy absorption capability. Overall, the results demonstrate that colemanite-enriched ceramic composites provide effective combined gamma-ray and neutron shielding and represent promising, sustainable, and non-toxic alternatives for radiation protection applications.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Mineralogical and geochemical controls on Co-V-Pt-Ni enrichment in manganese mineralization: evidence from the Dilli deposit, Eastern Türkiye
Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Çimen, Okay; Aktağ, Alican; Keskin, Serdar
The growing demand for critical minerals driven by the global energy transition and advanced technologies highlights the importance of unconventional metal reservoirs. This study investigates the Ni-, Co-, V-, and Pt-enriched Dilli manganese deposit (Kemaliye-Erzincan, Eastern Türkiye) to constrain the mineralogical, geochemical, and genetic controls on critical metal enrichment in Mn oxide mineralization. An integrated approach combining field observations, petrography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), whole-rock geochemistry, mineral chemistry, and stable C-O isotope analysis was applied to better understand the potential origin of critical mineral enrichments. The mineralization is dominated by Mn4+-bearing oxides, principally pyrolusite and hollandite, accompanied by minor rhodochrosite. High MnO (39-64 wt%) and very low Al2O3 and Fe2O3 contents indicate chemical precipitation with negligible detrital input. Discrimination diagrams and trace-element systematics consistently support a structurally controlled hydrothermal origin. Chondrite-normalized REE patterns display low total REE and very low Nd contents comparable to typical hydrothermal deposits, whereas neutral to slightly positive Ce anomalies and non-chondritic Y/Ho ratios suggest limited oxidative interaction with surface-derived fluids rather than primary marine hydrogenetic growth. Stable C–O isotope compositions of co-genetic calcite are inconsistent with a purely marine depositional environment and indicate precipitation from low-to moderate-temperature hydrothermal fluids. Mineral chemistry reveals strong phase-specific partitioning: hollandite preferentially incorporates V and Ba, whereas pyrolusite is enriched in Ni. Cobalt occurs in both phases, whereas Pt may also be present in both Mn oxide phases, suggesting that trace-element distribution is influenced by both crystallochemical and physicochemical controls. The enrichment of Ni, Co, and Pt is most plausibly linked to hydrothermal fluid circulation through ultramafic units, which likely acted as the primary metal source prior to precipitation. The Dilli deposit thus represents a structurally controlled hydrothermal Mn system enriched in critical metals, emphasizing the exploration relevance of Mn oxide mineral chemistry in identifying alternative sources of critical metals in Türkiye.

Mine closures are not merely the end of an economic cycle but complex processes that produce long-term social, environmental, and psychosocial consequences. Despite the growing recognition of the importance of Social Impact Assessment (SIA), studies often underemphasize the closure phase and its social repercussions. This study investigates those social impacts in Gümüşhane, Türkiye, a historically mining-dependent region, through the lens of stakeholder theory and a qualitative fieldwork approach. Drawing on in-depth interviews with 21 participants including mine workers, company representatives, public officials, NGOs, media, and local community members, the study identifies significant transformations in six domains: economy, employment and education, land use, demographics, environment and health, and human rights. Findings reveal that mine closures led to income loss, unemployment, migration, weakening of social cohesion, environmental degradation, and violations of labor and participation rights. The exclusion of local stakeholders from closure planning exacerbated distrust and social fragmentation. Providing a nuanced understanding of the social dynamics surrounding mine closure, study contributes to the growing literature calling for more inclusive, just, and sustainable closure processes, and emphasizes the urgency of incorporating SIA as a mandatory and comprehensive practice including not only the opening but also the closure and post-closure stages of mining.

Kösetevek grape is a significant indigenous black grape variety with colored pulp, grown in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye. Mash heating (MH) is commonly used in grape juice production. However, to better preserve phenolic, aroma, and nutritional components, Thermosonication (TS) process is utilized as an alternative technique. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of TS conditions on the physicochemical and sensory properties of grape juice obtained from Kösetevek grapes. Grape juice underwent TS at various temperatures and ultrasound energy density (UED) levels, followed by an optimization study using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Grape juice samples were analyzed for total phenolic content (TP), total monomeric anthocyanins (TMA), antioxidant activity (FRAP and DPPH), polymeric color ratio (PCR), color difference (ΔE*), and extraction yield. The optimum TS conditions were determined as 801.99 J/g UED and 43.5 °C (desirability value = 0.595). Under optimal conditions, anthocyanin profiles were characterized by HPLC, aroma compounds were identified using GC–MS, and sensory properties were evaluated by descriptive analysis. TS resulted in a significant increase in TP and TMA content. The ΔE* value was lower, suggesting that the product's natural color was better preserved. TS enhanced the phenolic content and yield of the grape juice while also contributing to the preservation of color and sensory properties. TS juice contained the highest concentrations of aroma compounds, particularly C6 compounds and higher alcohols. This characteristic made TS more effective at preserving fresh aromas compared to MH, which generated cooked odors. Overall, TS has the potential to be applied as an alternative to or together with traditional thermal processes in industrial production.

Bingöl, Özhan
This study investigates the synchronization and anti-synchronization of both identical and non-identical chaotic satellite systems. A fixed-time sliding mode control framework, based on a radial basis function (RBF) neural network, has been developed to synchronize the chaotic dynamics of master–slave satellite configurations. The proposed control scheme operates under the assumption that the dynamics of the satellites are not entirely known. The proposed control method guarantees that system errors will converge to negligible levels within a fixed time. Furthermore, the controller exhibits robustness in the presence of parametric uncertainties and external disturbances. The stability of the controlled systems is rigorously validated through Lyapunov analysis, and the controller's effectiveness is confirmed through extensive simulation studies. These simulations are conducted on both identical and non-identical satellite models, with performance comparisons made against recent findings reported in the literature.
