- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Investigation of parents with high-risk infant on participation in care, depression, quality of life, and anxiety according to the infant's severity of neurologic impact
Sen, Muserref Ebru; Yakut, Hatice
Aim: The study aims to examine the psychological consequences such as anxiety levels, quality of life, depression, and participation in the care of parents with high-risk infants who have varying levels of neurological impact severity. Material and Methods: Forty high-risk infants and their mothers were included in the study. The infants were divided into three groups according to the Dubowitz Neurologic Assessment Scale. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS), Quality of Life Short Form 36 (SF-36), and the NICU Care Participation Scale were administered. Results: There were significant differences in the mothers' anxiety and depression levels (p < 0.001) and many parameters of quality of life according to the severity of neurological impact. However, it was determined that the severity of the neurological impact did not affect the mothers' participation in care (p > 0.01). Discussion: Although our study revealed that parents' depression, anxiety, and quality of life levels changed according to the severity of neurological impairment in high-risk infants, care participation was not affected. The limited sample size and the inability to generalize the results to different cultural and socioeconomic groups are important limitations. Nevertheless, it can be concluded that the medical condition of the newborn seriously affects the mental health of the parents.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025The effect of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on anxiety levels and attitudes towards e-learning among sports sciences students
Türker, Ustun; Bostanci, Ozgur
Background and Study Aim The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant changes in education and teaching processes, particularly affecting application-based disciplines such as sports science. This study aimed to examine the relationship between COVID-19-related anxiety and attitudes toward e-learning among sports sciences students. Material and Methods The study was conducted using a cross-sectional design with 2,479 students from 14 state universities in Turkey. Data were collected using the Coronavirus Anxiety Scale (CAS) and the Test of E-Learning Related Attitudes Scale (TELRA), and responses were gathered through online surveys. Parametric statistical analyses (t-test, correlation) were performed using SPSS at a significance level of p<0.05. Results Anxiety associated with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic led to significant changes in the e-learning attitudes of sports sciences students. Students with higher levels of anxiety exhibited stronger tendencies toward technology use and perceived usefulness, whereas only limited differences were noted in satisfaction and motivation. Female students reported higher levels of symptoms and anxiety, while those who engaged in regular exercise demonstrated lower anxiety levels. Interestingly, within the high-anxiety group, students who did not regularly participate in exercise displayed more favorable e-learning attitudes. These findings suggest that anxiety may strengthen the inclination toward digital learning; however, this tendency does not always align with motivational commitment. Conclusions The e-learning attitudes of sports sciences students during the pandemic were influenced by factors such as technological competence, psychological state, gender, exercise habits, and the requirements of practical courses. The findings highlight the importance of designing hybrid and flexible learning models in times of crisis, in a manner that integrates psychological support with pedagogical needs.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025A FIXED POINT APPROACH TO FRACTIONAL INTEGRO-DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS: CONVERGENCE AND DATA DEPENDENCE
Cona, Lale
Fractional calculus, which involves derivatives and integrals of non-integer order, is widely used in modeling real-world problems in science and engineering. This study focuses on solving fractional integro-differential equations using Picard's three-step iteration algorithm. We apply Picard's three-step iteration algorithm to approximate solutions and show that it converges strongly. The method is shown to be not only efficient in approximating solutions but also robust with respect to perturbations in the initial data and operators, demonstrating its data dependence. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the theoretical results and to confirm the applicability and reliability of the proposed approach.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Scopus SJRQ1Modeling the Compressive Strength of Fiber-Reinforced Alkali-Activated Concrete Using Non-Destructive Methods in Short Curing Periods
Aksüt, Yavuz Selim; Çullu, Mustafa; Yetgin, Sukru
The indirect assessment of concrete compressive strength using non-destructive techniques, including the Schmidt rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity methods, is crucial for evaluating and tracking the strength of structural concrete used in construction and rehabilitation projects. However, studies focusing on alkali-activated concrete (AAC) remain insufficient. This study investigates the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced alkali-activated concretes (FAACs) produced with short curing times, addressing this gap in the literature. Ground blast furnace slag (GBFS) was used as the binder, and waste volcanic rock dust (RD), produced in a natural stone processing plant, served as a fine filler. These materials were activated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) to produce alkali-activated concrete, both without fibers (AAC) and with fibers (FAAC). Steel fiber (SF) and polyester fiber (PYF) were used separately and in hybrid forms at 0.25%; 0.50%; 0.75%, and 1.0% volume fractions, resulting in a total of 117 cubic specimens (15x15x15 cm). The specimens' mechanical properties were evaluated using regression analyses based on data from Schmidt rebound number (RN), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) non-destructive methods and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) destructive tests. Optimized functions predicting compressive strength based on RN and UPV measurements were developed, highlighting the significant effects of fiber type, ratio, and mode of use. Additionally, multivariate prediction models were statistically developed using data from the three test methods.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Mineral chemistry, thermodynamic evolution, and crystallization history of late miocene volcanic rocks around posof (Ardahan, Turkiye)
Cicerali, Derya; Yücel, Cem; Aydinçakir, Emre; Kaygusuz, Abdullah
This study aimed to constrain the crystallization and emplacement conditions of magmas that produced the Late Miocene volcanic rocks exposed at the junction of the Erzurum-Kars Plateau and the Eastern Pontides in the Northeastern Anatolia Region through a series of thermobarometric analyses. The volcanic succession unconformably overlies Oligocene mudstone, siltstone, and sandstone alternations, with limestone and cherty limestone at higher levels. Petrographically, they consist offine-to coarse-grained basalt, basaltic andesite, and andesite. Mineral compositions include plagioclase (An(16-77)), clinopyroxene (Wo(39-45)En(43-50)Fs(11-12)), orthopyroxene (Wo(3-4)En(73-82)Fs(14-24)), olivine (Fo(63-86)), hornblende (Mg#=0.62-0.79), and Fe-Ti oxides (Usp(0.05-1.44), Ilm(94.10-95.53)). The groundmass comprises microlites of these minerals and volcanic glass. The dominant textures are microlitic porphyritic, hyalomicrolitic, and microlitic porphyritic, while glomeroporphyritic, intergranular, pilotaxitic, subophitic, flow, and vesicular textures are also observed. Widely present disequilibrium features, such as zoning, sieve, and resorption, are common in plagioclase and clinopyroxene. Thermobarometric calculations indicate crystallization temperatures of 880-1230 degrees C, pressures of 0.73-8.71 kbar, oxygen fugacities between (-10.94) and (-8.92), and water contents of4.60-6.32 wt.%. These results suggest that the volcanic rocks crystallized under volatile-rich, oxidizing conditions across a broad depth range (similar to 2-32 km), at relatively high temperatures.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ1Global Elites in Flux: Cultural Capital and Power after Globalization
Özkan, Vildane; Dinç, Artum
In the post-globalization era, global elites face a transformed landscape of resurgent national sovereignty and civilizational rhetoric. This article examines how transnational power-holders-once emblematic of a borderless world - are recalibrating their cultural strategies and legitimacy mechanisms amid these shifts. Drawing on cultural sociology and elite theory (Bourdieu, Bauman, Castells, Gramsci), the analysis integrates non-Western scholarly perspectives. It reconceptualizes cosmopolitan elite culture under conditions of de-globalization. We argue that global elites are neither passive victims of de-globalization nor static cosmopolitans. Instead, they act as cultural brokers who selectively adjust their identities and narratives. Some accentuate patriotic or civilizational themes to align with ascendant statecentric discourses, while others redouble on universalist rhetoric through new transnational alliances. Comparative illustrations from Western countries, Russia, China, and T & uuml;rkiye demonstrate that elites are actively adapting to a fragmented world order. These shifts suggest that sociological inquiry needs to move beyond treating globalization as a given context and toward analyzing the cultural dynamics of elite power in a fractured world-one where questions of meaning, identity, and legitimacy have become as pivotal as economic forces.

Eyüboglu, Kayahan; Keskin, Cem
Spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage (SRH) is a rare and potentially life-threatening condition, often challenging to diagnose and manage, especially in elderly patients with multiple comorbidities. Psoas hematoma is a known complication that can be associated with anticoagulation therapy. A 93-year-old male patient with a history of atrial fibrillation, chronic heartfailure, and anticoagulant use (apixaban) presented with complaints of dizziness following a fall in the bathroom. He was initially assessed in the neurology clinic for potential cognitive symptoms; however, while awaiting assessment, he experienced a syncopal episode, resulting in his transfer to the emergency room. The patient had a significant reduction in hemoglobin levels, necessitating additional examination. Imaging revealed an 8 cm left psoas hematoma with active extravasation. The patient received a blood transfusion, vitamin K, and therapeutic interventions, including interventional radiology, which effectively halted the hemorrhage. This case highlights the diagnostic complexity and therapeutic challenges posed by spontaneous retroperitoneal hemorrhage in elderly patients, especially those on anticoagulant therapy. Early recognition and appropriate intervention are crucial for patient recovery.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2025An Integrated Evaluation of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability in G20 Countries Using Advanced MCDM Methods
Sahin Macit, Nazife
This study analytically assesses the climate change and environmental sustainability performance of G20 countries using data from the 2024 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) and Environmental Performance Index (EPI) reports. The analysis employs Sum-Weighted Information (SWI) and Ranking Alternatives with Weights of Criterion (RAWEC), which are Logarithmic Decomposition of Criteria Importance (LODECI)-based multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The study created three separate decision matrices, taking into account the CCPI and EPI criteria individually, as well as their combination. The criterion weights were determined using the LODECI method; greenhouse gas emissions, climate policy, and air quality were the most significant criteria. The results show that China and Saudi Arabia demonstrate strong environmental performance in CCPI-based rankings, while Germany, the United Kingdom and France demonstrate strong performance in EPIbased evaluations. In the integrated analysis, Germany ranked first using both methods. The consistency of the rankings obtained using the SWI and RAWEC methods was high, which supports the reliability of the analyses. However, some differences in ranking were observed depending on the method used, the distribution of criteria and the country sample. Overall, the study emphasizes the pivotal role of methodological diversity and data-driven approaches in multidimensional environmental assessments for policy-making, while demonstrating the robustness of the findings through sensitivity and comparative analyses.

İncele - MakaleYalnız künye2025Economic vulnerability amidst contagion: analyzing unemployment via Covid-19-induced transaction costs
Cicen, Yildirim Beyazit
This study delves into the pandemic's influence on unemployment rates, employing the concept of transaction costs. Given the virus's infectious nature, each transaction carries the risk of infection. In this study, Covid-19-induced transaction costs were utilized to gauge the pandemic's impact on unemployment rates. Seven developed countries and seven developing countries were separately scrutinized for this purpose. According to the outcomes of Yilanci and Gorus' (2020) panel causality test, Covid-19-induced transaction costs did not influence unemployment rates in developed countries. However, they significantly impacted unemployment rates in developing countries. These findings underscore the resource gap between developed and developing nations in tackling pandemic-related challenges. Policymakers should consider these economic disparities when devising strategies to alleviate the pandemic's effects.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Do University-Industry Collaborations Promote Outward Foreign Direct Investments? The Moderating Effect of the Education System
Sahin, Fatih
University-industry collaborations have gained increasing recognition as a key indicator of innovation ecosystems in recent years. However, existing literature often overlooks the expanding and diversifying roles of universities, focusing primarily on their impact on innovation. This study seeks to address this gap by exploring the effects of university-industry collaborations on outward foreign direct investment (FDI) activities in underdeveloped and developing countries, which face significant disadvantages in terms of technological and innovative resources. Additionally, it examines the regulatory role of the quality of the education system, which is believed to influence the effectiveness of these collaborations in fostering outward FDI. Using a sample of 80 underdeveloped and developing countries, panel regression analysis was conducted on secondary data covering the years 2013-2022. The findings reveal that university-industry collaborations positively influence crossborder investments, with these effects being stronger in countries with higher levels of education expenditures. These positive effects, however, disappear in contexts where education expenditures are low. This study makes important theoretical contributions to the and developing countries, highlighting the significance of university collaborations and the education system, in contrast to firm-specific resources. It also provides valuable policy recommendations for decision-makers in these countries.
- MakaleÖn baskısı açık2025Scopus SJRQ1Earthquake Performance Analysis and Retrofitting of an Existing School Building by Different Methods
Çavdar, Ozlem
Concrete structures designed prior to the implementation of modern building codes are still in use today. These structures are known for their inadequate design and poor performance during earthquakes. In this study, a performance analysis was conducted on an existing school structure in Istanbul, Turkey. The reasons for the damage were explored, and the structure was evaluated to determine the necessity for strengthening, the potential strengthening methods, and the appropriate comparison. Finally, recommendations were presented based on the available data from this study. The building was constructed in 1996 and has calculation reports and a static project. Linear and nonlinear methods were employed to determine the earthquake safety of structures after a mathematical model was created. The earthquake resistance of both the existing and retrofitting states of the school building was analyzed using linear and nonlinear analysis methods. The controlled damage limit could not be determined due to the high seismic intensity. A retrofit project has been devised for this low seismic performance building, comprising column jacketing, wrapping of beams with FRP, and the addition of shear walls.

- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2025The Interactional Role of Dysfunctional Attitudes in the Relationship Between Religiosity and Existential
Ericek Maraslioglu, Serife
According to the findings of the Turkish General Social Survey (TGSS), feelings of loneliness are more prevalent among young people. Due to the frequent changes in values, emotions and thoughts that characterise individuals during this period of life, it can be said that they are particularly vulnerable to loneliness. Existential loneliness, a deeper form of loneliness, is also referred to as ultimate loneliness. Potential triggers for young individuals to experience existential loneliness include meaninglessness and the inability to make oneself understood or express one's feelings. However, loneliness has been associated with various mental and physical health problems, there is insufficient research on individuals experiencing existential loneliness during adolescence. Against this backdrop, the present study aims to examine the mediating role of dysfunctional attitudes in the relationship between religiosity and existential loneliness in individuals in early adulthood. Ethical approval for the study was granted by the G & uuml;m & uuml;& scedil;hane University Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Committee on 28/05/2025 (approval number 2025/5). The study included 408 participants (294 women and 114 men) aged between 18 and 29. Data were obtained using the Religiosity Scale, the Existential Loneliness Scale , and the Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale. These were analysed using IBM SPSS AMOS and the PROCESS add-on module for SPSS. Correlation analysis revealed that religiosity was negatively associated with existential loneliness and dysfunctional attitudes, while existential loneliness and dysfunctional attitudes were positively associated with each other. Additionally, the analyses revealed that dysfunctional attitudes played a mediating role in the relationship between religiosity and existential loneliness. The mediation analysis conducted within the scope of the study was performed using the PROCESS macro (Model 4). Interventions targeting dysfunctional attitudes and promoting a healthier self-concept/self-image could be crucial in safeguarding young adults against existential loneliness. These results shed light on potential psychological mechanisms that explain the effect of religiosity on loneliness experienced by young people.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Fragile Routes: The Impact of Israel's Confrontational Policies on Trade Routes
Sancak, Kadir
The geopolitical position of the Middle East has a strategic value in the functioning of Eurasian trade routes. Accordingly, security issues in the region directly affect the realization and sustainability of trade projects. Israels Palestinian policies disrupt the security balance in the Middle East, posing risks to major trade projects such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the IMEC Project and the Development Road. Recognizing that trade and security are inextricably linked, this study examines the current state and future of these projects from a security perspective. Based on a comprehensive literature review using qualitative analysis, this study evaluates the effects of instability in the Middle East on trade routes. The study reveals that trade projects in the region will be at risk of instability unless security issues are resolved. The first part of the study discusses the relationship between trade and security in a conceptual framework. Then, Israel's Palestinian policies are briefly touched upon and it is stated that these policies negatively affect the security of the Middle East. In the last part, major trade projects are discussed and how these projects are affected by Israel's policies. The findings show that the Southern Corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative has a fragile structure, the IMEC Project cannot be realized due to security problems, and the Development Road offers a more reliable alternative under current conditions. If security and stability cannot be ensured in the Middle East, it is anticipated that it will be difficult for trade projects to operate permanently and effectively.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2025Scopus SJRQ3Electricity in Ottoman Commercial Enterprises as a New Power Source
Damlibag, Fatih
Until the last quarter of 19th century, steam power was the only available source of power for commercial enterprises. But this power required large amounts of investment. This requirement limited the spread of mechanization. But the invention of electrical motors changed the situation. With its practical usage opportunities, electricity took attention of several commercial enterprises in the Ottoman Empire. According to former steam power, electricity provides both usage easiness and lesser cost opportunity to commercial enterprises. Thanks to electrical engines, relatively small businesses were also able to take decision of mechanization. In this article, there were shown examples from six sectors, who wanted to benefit from electricity in their activities. Entrepreneurs made investments in mining, logistics, jewelry, transportation, ginning and milling, for this new technology. With electricity investments, entrepreneurs wanted to reach seven advantages that there were communication possibility, safer working environment, energy efficiency, better lighting, easy utilization, reduced cost and increased productivity. As to the Ottoman government's approach to these entrepreneurs, the officials did not always eagerly meet their demands. Most of the custom officials were reluctant to accept electrical appliances into the country. But in the end, demands of entrepreneurs were mostly accepted by the government. For the control of these demands, the Ottoman Empire wanted both the purpose of each request and the person responsible for that request to be clearly determined.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2025Interactional Roles of Proactive Personality and Religious Attitude Levels in the Effect of Disappointment Intolerance on Mental Health of Earthquake Victims
Maraslioglu, Serife Ericek
Earthquakes, as natural disasters, are stressful life events characterized by frustration, uncertainty, and psychological burden. In fact, disappointment intolerance - the inability to tolerate distressing or obstructive experiences - has been shown to predict both life satisfaction and depressive symptoms. The present study aims to examine the mediating role of proactive personality in the relationship between disappointment intolerance beliefs and mental health, as well as the moderating role of religious attitudes in this relationship among earthquake victims living in container cities after the 6 February earthquakes. The participants were survivors residing in the region's most severely affected materially and morally by the earthquake centered in Kahramanmara & scedil;, T & uuml;rkiye. Data were collected from 354 individuals 18 months after the earthquake using the Demographic Information Form, Frustration Discomfort Scale, Proactive Personality Scale, Religious Attitude Scale, and Mental Health Scale. Pearson correlation, mediation, and moderation analyses were conducted. The findings indicated that higher levels of frustration intolerance were associated with increased levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. Furthermore, proactive personality was found to mediate the effect of disappointment intolerance subdimensions (entitlement, achievement, emotional intolerance, and discomfort intolerance) on mental health outcomes. However, religious attitudes did not moderate the negative impact of disappointment intolerance on depression, anxiety, and stress. The results are discussed considering existing literature, and implications for future research and intervention strategies are offered.
