Influencer Authenticity in Marketing: A Systematic Literature Review and Future Research Agenda

Celik, Fatih; Ibrahim, Blend; Polat, Eray; Moulard, Julie; Akbulut, Metin

As influencer marketing scales into a mainstream advertising channel, authenticity has become its defining currency, yet consumers and brands struggle to understand what makes a social media influencer (SMI) genuinely credible and why strategic authenticity backfires. Despite growing scholarly interest, research remains fragmented, leaving practitioners without a unified framework to guide their decisions. Through a systematic literature review (SLR) of 138 peer-reviewed articles (2011-2024), using topic modeling and thematic analysis, we identify the authenticity paradox, the inherent conflict that arises when SMIs attempt to commercialize their genuine self-presentation. This tension also explains why recent evidence reports no overall engagement benefit from perceived authenticity. Seven latent topics are synthesized into four integrated axes: (1) ontological tensions at the technological interface, (2) the commercial transparency and trust paradox, (3) ethical negotiation in identity construction, and (4) strategic consumer responses. Our findings reveal how consumers continuously navigate between SMIs' curated performances and perceived genuineness, with self-determination theory, attribution theory, and parasocial interaction theory dominating current explanations, predominantly within USA-based contexts. Beyond mapping the field, we specify three conceptual patterns, namely authenticity as attributed intent, transparency as coherence rather than concealment, and authenticity as a structurally constrained accomplishment. We then translate the gaps they expose into a structured research agenda, offering actionable insights for brands, managers, and platform designers on authenticity management, influencer selection, partnership governance, and performance evaluation.

Effects of Halotherapy as an Adjunct to Preseason Training on Respiratory and Aerobic Outcomes in Elite Female Football Players: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Sarisik, Derya Cetin; Aydin, Ahmet Serhat; Söyler, Mehmet; Zileli, Raif; Özkurt, Ali; Yilmaz, Coskun; Küçük, Hamza; Karatas, Mevlut

Background: Aerobic capacity and respiratory efficiency are critical determinants of performance in elite female football, characterized by repeated high-intensity efforts and rapid recovery demands. Halotherapy, involving the inhalation of dry salt aerosol, has been shown to improve pulmonary health; however, its effects on exercise-related outcomes in athletic populations remain insufficiently investigated. This study aimed to examine the effects of a 12-week post-training halotherapy intervention on respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, and aerobic performance in elite female football players. Methods: Twenty-eight elite female football players competing in the Turkish Women's First League were randomly assigned to a halotherapy group (HG, n = 14) or a control group (CG, n = 14). Both groups completed an identical preseason training program, while the HG additionally performed 45 min halotherapy sessions three times per week in a controlled halochamber. Pre-and post-intervention assessments included maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP, MEP), spirometric parameters (FVC, FEV1, PEF, MVV), and maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2)max) estimated using the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (Yo-Yo IRT1), along with total distance covered. A 2 & times; 2 mixed-model ANOVA was used to assess time and group & times; time interaction effects. Results: Significant group & times; time interactions were observed for MIP, MEP, VO(2)max, FEV1, PEF, MVV, and Yo-Yo IRT1 performance (p < 0.05), with large effect sizes (eta p(2) = 0.269-0.924), favoring the halotherapy group. Forced vital capacity (FVC) increased over time in both groups (p = 0.141), with no significant interaction effect. Changes in the control group were comparatively smaller across most outcomes. Conclusion: Post-training halotherapy was associated with improvements in respiratory muscle strength, ventilatory function, aerobic capacity, and intermittent running performance in elite female football players. These findings suggest that halotherapy may be considered as a complementary, non-invasive strategy to support respiratory and aerobic adaptations. Further research is required to confirm these findings and to clarify the underlying physiological mechanisms. Trial registration: NCT07406386; 6 February 2026.

Effects of psychological skills training on self-control, perceived physical self-defense capacity, and mental toughness in elite female wrestlers: a randomized controlled trial

Tutal, Varol; Demir, Okan; Sahin, Oktay; Albayrak, Ahmet Yilmaz; Bayansalduz, Mehmet; Uzun, Recep Nur; Öz, Faik; Sahinler, Yunus; Ceylan, Levent; Yilmaz, Coskun

Background Self-control, self-defense self-efficacy, and mental resilience are fundamental psychological determinants of performance and competitive endurance in combat sports. However, scientific evidence on structured, evidence-based psychological intervention programs for professional female wrestlers remains limited. This study examined the effects of a psychological skills training (PST)-based intervention on self-control, self-defense self-efficacy, and mental resilience in professional female wrestlers. Methods A randomized controlled pre-test-post-test design was employed. Thirty-six professional female wrestlers (aged 18-25) were randomly assigned to a PST group (n = 18) or a control group (CG; n = 18). The PST group completed an 8-week structured psychological intervention alongside regular training, while the CG continued routine training only. Self-control, self-defense self-efficacy, and mental resilience were assessed pre-and post-intervention using valid and reliable psychometric scales. Data were analyzed via repeated-measures ANOVA, with effect sizes calculated. Results Significant group & times; time interactions were observed across multiple outcomes. A highly significant interaction emerged for perceived physical self-defense capacity (SP; F(1,34) = 56.525, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.624) and for DP scores (F (1,34) = 9.360, p = 0.004, eta p(2) = 0.216). Among self-control subscales, significant interactions were found for inhibition (F (1,34) = 8.172, p = 0.007, eta p(2) = 0.194) and, more strongly, for initiation (F (1,34) = 14.157, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.294). For mental resilience, highly significant interactions were detected for confidence (F (1,34) = 59.976, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.638), control (F (1,34) = 32.486, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.489), and persistence (F (1,34) = 32.709, p < 0.001, eta p(2) = 0.490). Overall, the intervention demonstrated medium-to-high effect sizes across psychological performance indicators. Conclusion These findings suggest that PST may serve as a useful complementary approach for enhancing self-control, perceived physical self-defense capacity, and mental toughness in professional female wrestlers. However, results should not be interpreted as evidence of improved competitive wrestling performance, technical success, or objectively measured physical self-defense ability, as these outcomes were not directly assessed in this study.

Akgul, Bengusu Hacer; Yagi, Sakina; Cetiz, Mehmet Veysi; Saka, Enver; Zengin, Gokhan; Llorent-Martínez, Eulogio J.; Gómez-Torres, Marina; Yapici, Ismail; Gulcin, Ilhami; Yildiztugay, Evren

This study was undertaken to examine, for the first time, the antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory properties of several extracts obtained from the aerial parts of Teucrium scordium subsp. scordioides (Schreb.) Arcang (family: Lamiaceae). Among the extracts, the EtOH extract contained the highest total phenolic (89.96 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (45.74 mg RE/g) contents. Phenylethanoid glycosides were predominant, particularly in the ethanol and aqueous extracts, and teucroside/forsythoside B and verbascoside/forsythoside A were tentatively identified as the major compounds. EtOH and 70% EtOH extracts showed comparable (p > 0.05) anti-DPPH activity (201.89 and 188.52 mg TE/g), Cu++ (562.81 and 547.88 mg TE/g), and Fe+++ (329.13 and 320.08 mg TE/g) reducing capacities. The EtOH extract showed the best antityrosinase activity (72.00 mg KAE/g). The EtOAc extract inhibited human carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoenzymes I and CAII (IC50 = 26.86 and 65.37 mu g/mL, respectively). Complementary in silico analyses of the major phenylethanoid and flavonoid glycosides supported their possible multitarget interaction patterns and identified the Forsythoside A-BChE complex as a computationally favorable model for future experimental validation. Overall, these findings indicate that T. scordium subsp. scordioides may represent a natural source of antioxidants and enzyme inhibitors for use in different health-promoting formulations.

Late Cretaceous hybrid melt sources and flare-up magmatism in the eastern Sakarya Zone, NE Türkiye: Zircon Hf-O constraints and implications for VMS fertility

Aydin, Faruk; Oguz-Saka, Simge; Karsli, Orhan; Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Moghadam, Hadi Shafaii; Zhao, Junxing; Schmitt, Axel K.

Understanding melt source evolution during arc-back-arc magmatism is essential for resolving crustal growth processes and the development of felsic-hosted volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) systems. Here we integrate new zircon HfO isotope data with published geochronological and whole-rock geochemical datasets to reassess the petrogenesis of Late Cretaceous arc and back-arc magmatic flare-ups in the eastern Sakarya Zone (ESZ), NE T & uuml;rkiye. Two high-flux magmatic episodes are recognized: a Turonian-Santonian pulse (similar to 92-86 Ma) forming the lower volcanic sequence (LVS), and a younger Campanian pulse (similar to 84-75 Ma) forming the upper volcanic sequence (UVS), accompanied by contemporaneous arc-related granitoids. Zircons from both LVS and UVS display predominantly positive epsilon Hf(t) values (+2 to +12) coupled with mantle-like delta O-18 (5.0-5.6 parts per thousand), but contain abundant inherited Mesoproterozoic-Paleozoic cores and show variable two-stage model ages (T-DM (c) = 0.4-1.4 Ga). Together with the peraluminous affinity of many felsic units, these features indicate that the dacite-rhyolite suites hosting VMS deposits were generated by melting of compositionally heterogeneous lower crust variably hybridized by juvenile basaltic inputs. Arc granitoids likewise record a transition from dominantly juvenile, I-type magmatism during the Coniacian-Santonian to more evolved, crust-influenced signatures during the Campanian. We propose that both flare-ups reflect repeated episodes of basaltic underplating and deep-crustal heating, producing voluminous felsic magmas capable of sustaining long-lived hydrothermal systems. The spatial and temporal coincidence between felsic-dominated flare-ups and VMS mineralization suggests that hybridized felsic magmas, rather than purely juvenile mantle melts, played a central role in generating the physiochemical conditions required for metal-bearing hydrothermal fluids in the ESZ.

Multi-joint isokinetic strength profiling as a predictor of vertical jump performance in elite freestyle wrestlers A cross-sectional principal component analysis

Sever, Ozan; Ceylan, Halil Ibrahim; Dhahbi, Wissem; Yilmaz, Hasan Huseyin; Özdemir, Kubra; Yazici, Ahmet Gokhan; Jalalov, Ferhad; Günay, Ahmet Rahmi; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Stefanica, Valentina

Wrestling requires coordinated lower-limb strength for explosive techniques. While isokinetic testing isolates joint-specific strength and countermovement jumps assess functional power, comprehensive multi-joint assessments with advanced factor analysis remain unexplored in elite wrestlers. Twenty-one national-level male freestyle wrestlers (22.3 +/- 2.8 years; 76.2 +/- 14.7 kg) completed cross-sectional neuromuscular assessments. Isokinetic concentric strength testing at 60 degrees/s evaluated hip, knee, and ankle joint functions bilaterally using an Isomed 2000 dynamometer. Vertical jump power was assessed through countermovement jumps under bilateral and unilateral conditions using the Optojump system. All strength and power variables were normalized to fat-free mass determined via air displacement plethysmography. Statistical analyses included Pearson correlations with Benjamini-Hochberg correction, stepwise multiple regression, and principal component analysis. Bilateral jump performance correlated strongly with knee extension (R = 0.798, P <.001) and hip extension strength (R = 0.664, P =.001), with combined predictors explaining 68.8% of variance (F-2,F-18 = 19.8, P <.001). Principal component analysis identified a primary extensor factor (hip and knee extension, 52.6% variance) and an auxiliary factor (ankle plantar flexion and hip adduction, 19.0% variance). Unilateral jump models demonstrated lower explanatory power (dominant: 39.8%, non-dominant: 25.7%). Multi-joint isokinetic strength assessment, particularly hip and knee extension capacity, provides a robust prediction of vertical jump performance in elite wrestlers. The identified primary extensor strength factor represents a fundamental neuromuscular capacity underlying explosive lower-limb function, supporting targeted strength development strategies for wrestling-specific performance enhancement.

The development of effective acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitors remains a crucial objective in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, a novel synthetic approach was established to prepare a series of diaryl-substituted tacrine derivatives. Initially, brominated aminobenzonitrile was subjected to Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions with various aryl boronic acids to yielding diaryl-substituted aminobenzonitriles at yields of 60%-72%. These intermediates were then cyclized with cyclohexanone and cycloheptanone under Friedl & auml;nder conditions using BF3 & centerdot;OEt2 as a catalyst, affording six- and seven-membered diaryl tacrine analogues in yields of 52%-68%. All synthesized compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, and elemental analysis. The inhibitory activities of these compounds (7-16) against AChE and BChE were evaluated, and several analogs demonstrated potent dual-enzyme inhibition at nanomolar concentrations. Notably, compounds 8 and 13 exhibited half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of 6.848 and 8.545 nmol/L for BChE, respectively, indicating strong potential as selective cholinesterase inhibitors. The structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis revealed the influence of aryl substituents on the potency and selectivity of enzyme inhibition. Compared to previously reported tacrine derivatives, the newly synthesized analogs exhibited superior inhibitory profiles, indicating their potential as lead compounds for further development in AD therapeutics. Beyond the fruit: phenolic composition, cytotoxicity, antioxidant, and multi-enzyme inhibitory activity of twig and leaf extracts from four understudied Turkish Rosa species

Salehi, Hajar; Terzic, Milena; Ak, Gunes; Zengin, Gokhan; Swiatek, Lukasz; Salwa, Kinga; Yapici, Ismail; Gulcin, Ilhami; Yildiztugay, Evren; Lucini, Luigi

The phytochemical profile and multi-target bioactivity of four Turkish Rosa species, R. canina, R. hemisphaerica, R. horrida, and R. pulverulenta, were evaluated across vegetative organs (twigs and leaves) and three solvent polarities (ethyl acetate (EA), methanol (MeOH), water), in total 24 extracts. Untargeted Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Quadrupole Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-QTOF-MS) metabolomics, along with total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid (TFC) content, six antioxidant assays and inhibition of seven enzymes were determined. Twig EA extracts displayed unexpectedly high TPC (83-105 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE) per g) and TFC (35-47 mg rutin equivalent (RE) per g), indicative of selective aglycone flavonoid enrichment. The phenolic profiles identified 337 putative compounds, of which 60.84% belonged to the flavonoid class. The semi-quantitative analysis also indicates that methanol and water extracts had higher quantities of glycosylated flavonoids and phenolic acids, while EA extracts were richer in lignans, especially R. horrida-leaf-EA (1743.25 & micro;g SE per g DW), and polyphenols. In enzyme inhibition assays, EA extracts demonstrated consistent multi-target activity: AChE inhibition (up to 2.49 mg galantamine equivalent (GALAE) per g), BChE inhibition (up to 4.44 mg GALAE per g), tyrosinase inhibition (up to 63.58 mg kojic acid equivalent (KAE) per g), alpha-amylase inhibition (up to 0.72 mmol acarbose equivalent ACAE per g), and carbonic anhydrase inhibition (CA I IC50 as low as 12.17 & micro;g mL-1). The R. hemisphaerica-twig-EA extract showed highly selective cytotoxic activity against A375 cells, with a 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) of 3.22 & micro;g mL-1 and an SI of 73.95, compared to VERO cells. This is the first report of carbonic anhydrase inhibition, BChE-selective activity, cytotoxicity, and comprehensive enzyme-inhibitory data for R. hemisphaerica, R. horrida, and R. pulverulenta. These findings reframe the phytopharmacological potential of Turkish Rosa species beyond their traditionally studied fruit.

The Effect of Match Running on Team Success in Professional Soccer

Tokul, Erdi; Mülazimoglu, Olcay; Özkara, Abdullah Bora; Özçilingir, Ozgun Mirac; Somoglu, Mustafa Baris; Turan, Cagatay; Baskaya, Gizem; Erdem, Kamil

This study aimed to examine match running performance (RP) in professional soccer teams in terms of success variables. A total of 626 observations obtained via a multicamera tracking system (InStat Ltd.) from a total of 323 matches played by 19 teams in the Turkish Super League (TSL) during a season were analyzed. The success of the teams was examined as two different independent variables: i) according to the endof-season final table ranking (1st rank: the first five teams that have qualified for the European League; 2nd rank: the second rank five teams; 3rd rank: the third rank five teams; and 4th rank: the four relegated teams). ii) According to the match outcome (win, draw, loss). The RP variables included total distance (TD), covered distance in five speed zones (walking, jogging, running, high-speed running (HSR) and sprinting), high-intensity acceleration (HIA) and maximum acceleration. ANOVA and post hoc tests revealed that 1strank teams were significantly more common in running, HSR, sprinting and acceleration (p < .05). There was no difference between the TD groups (p > .05). The TD, walking sprinting and max. acceleration values of the winning teams were greater (p < .05). The short-term success goal for teams is to win a match or score a point, and the long-term goal is to be at the top of the final table in the season. Therefore, the current research revealed that high-intensity RPs and high intensity acceleration in matches are especially decisive in the success of teams.

Agricultural value-added, fertilizer and pesticide use, and environmental load capacity: evidence from BRICS-T countries

Akyol, Mehmet; Zuhal, Mustafa; Mete, Emrullah; Lorente, Daniel Balsalobre; Barut, Abdulkadir

The agricultural sector plays a vital role in ensuring food security and supporting sustainable economic growth. However, climate change and global warming pose significant challenges to the long-term viability of agricultural production, underscoring the need for sustainable agricultural practices. Adopting clean technologies and environmentally responsible policies is essential for balancing economic and agricultural sustainability while minimizing ecological harm. Supportive and protective agricultural inputs are widely used to enhance productivity, yet excessive, unregulated use can lead to environmental degradation. This deterioration negatively impacts ecosystems, reducing biodiversity and straining natural resources. The Load Capacity Factor (LCF) serves as a critical metric for assessing the environmental footprint of agricultural activities. This paper investigates the effects of agricultural value-added, pesticide use, and fertilizer application on LCF in BRICS-T countries. The findings indicate that these variables exhibit long-term cointegration, with varying short- and long-term impacts. To ensure the sustainability of agricultural production while safeguarding ecosystems, it is essential to integrate clean technologies, precision farming, and regenerative agricultural practices into policy frameworks. Sustainable agricultural systems and environmentally conscious policies are fundamental to securing resilient food production and long-term economic stability.

Canal Hypersurfaces Generated by Pseudo-Null Curves with Bishop Frame in Lorentz-Minkowski 4-Space

Kazan, Ahmet; Kazan, Sema; Gur Mazlum, Sumeyye; Karaca, Emel; Altin, Mustafa; Grilli, Luca

In this paper, we deal with the canal hypersurfaces that are formed as the envelope of a family of pseudo-hyperspheres or pseudo-hyperbolic hyperspheres with centers lying on a pseudo-null curve with Bishop vector fields in four-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space. We give main theorems which contain the parametric expressions of these canal hypersurfaces along with their Gaussian, mean, and principal curvatures and important geometric characterizations. We also provide these characterizations for tubular hypersurfaces. Finally, we construct an example to allow for better understanding and comprehension of the results.

Spatio-Temporal Distributions of Seismicity, Stress Evolution, and Tectonomagmatic Signatures of the 2025 Sındırgı Earthquake Swarm, Western Anatolia, Türkiye

Büyüksaraç, Aydin; Senkaya, Mustafa; Alkan, Hamdi; Bektas, Ozcan; Öztürk, Serkan; Pirti, Atinc; Yücel, Mehmet Ali

The Simav Fault Zone (SFZ) in Western Anatolia remains one of the most active tectonic regions in Turkey, and the 2025 S & imath;nd & imath;rg & imath; earthquake swarm has renewed concern regarding evolving seismic hazard. This study analyzes the swarm on the S & imath;nd & imath;rg & imath; Segment using Coulomb stress modelling, spatial distributions of b- and p-value, gravity and magnetic anomalies, geothermal data, and GNSS observations. Coulomb stress calculations show that the M-W = 6.1 and M-W = 6.0 mainshocks produced stress increases of similar to 0.1 bar that effectively loaded adjacent segments of the SFZ, D & uuml;vertepe Fault Zone (DFZ), and Gelenbe Fault Zone (GFZ), guiding the east-southeast and northward migration of aftershocks. Spatial statistics indicate a b-value ranging from 0.6 to 1.3 and a p-value between 0.3 and 1.0. The lower b-values (< 1.0) and p-values (< 0.5) mark high-stress regions near the mainshock, and higher values characterize more stable zones. Gravity anomalies delineate a dense volcanic-ophiolitic body in the southwest and a caldera-like depression south of the SFZ, while magnetic anomalies highlight the structural continuation and interaction of the SFZ with the GFZ. GNSS stations recorded centimetre-to millimetre-scale motions: BAL1 moved similar to 1.34 cm horizontally with minor uplift, DEI1 experienced similar to 1.12 cm displacement with small vertical fluctuations, and KIKA shifted similar to 0.85 cm southwestward with largely stable elevation. Together, these results show that the 2025 swarm was controlled by stress transfer within a mechanically heterogeneous tectonomagmatic system. The identified stress-enhanced corridors along the SFZ and DFZ may act as future nucleation zones, emphasizing the need for sustained monitoring of this evolving fault network.

Process Optimization of Spray-Dried Aquafaba and Comparison with Freeze-Drying: Techno-Functional Performance and Structural Attributes

Tunc Odabas, Merve Tugce; Saricaoglu, Furkan Turker; Parlak, Mahmut Ekrem; Akdogan, Arda; Odabas, Halil Ibrahim; Gündogdu, Engin; Simsek, Senay; Atalar, Ilyas

This study aimed to optimize the spray-drying (SD) process for aquafaba and compare the physical and techno-functional properties of the resulting powder with those of its freeze-dried (FD) counterpart. A Box-Behnken design was employed to evaluate the effects of inlet air temperature (150-190 degrees C), air speed (3.5-4.3 m/s), and feed flow rate (0.3-0.5 L/h) on 14 quality responses. The optimized SD conditions were determined to be an inlet air temperature of 189 degrees C, an air speed of 4.2 m/s, and a feed flow rate of 0.3 L/h. Validation experiments demonstrated that the developed models had high predictive capacity, with only a small discrepancy (0.56-5.88%) between the predicted and experimental values. Comparative analysis showed that the optimized SD powder had significantly lower moisture content (2.47%) and water activity (0.18) than the FD powder (3.51% and 0.34, respectively), indicating superior storage stability. In addition, the SD powder exhibited greater whiteness (82.37), higher water solubility (88.44%), and substantially greater foaming capacity (266.67%) than the FD sample (243.33%). Although the FD powder demonstrated better wettability and water absorption capacity because of its porous structure, FTIR spectroscopy and protein secondary structure analysis confirmed that SD preserved the functional integrity of aquafaba. Specifically, SD induced a transition from disordered random-coil structures to more ordered beta-sheet and beta-turn configurations, thereby improving foaming performance. Overall, these findings indicate that optimized spray-drying is a highly efficient and industrially scalable alternative to freeze-drying for producing functional aquafaba powder for use as a plant-based egg substitute.

Broccoli juice is highly nutritious, containing phenolic compounds, chlorophyll derivatives, antioxidants, and other biologically active phytochemicals; however, conventional thermal processing may reduce their stability and bioaccessibility. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of thermosonication on the following properties of broccoli juice: bioactivity, antioxidant capacity, phenolic profile and in vitro bioaccessibility. Thermosonication conditions were optimized using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) integrated with the Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. Broccoli juice samples were subjected to conventional pasteurization and thermosonication under different processing conditions, and total chlorophyll, ascorbic acid (AA), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), total phenolic content (TPC), and individual phenolic compounds were evaluated. Digestive stability and post-digestion bioaccessibility were also assessed using a standardized in vitro gastrointestinal digestion model. The developed quadratic models exhibited high statistical significance for TPC and FRAP responses (p < 0.001), with coefficients of determination (R2) of 0.9949 and 0.9853, respectively. The optimum thermosonication conditions were identified as 40 degrees C, 6.75 min, and 64.04% amplitude, under which experimentally validated FRAP and TPC values reached 12.86 mmol TE/L and 149.77 mg GAE/100 ml, respectively. HPLC-DAD analysis showed that gallic acid and naringin were the pre-dominant phenolic compounds, and that thermosonication promoted greater phenolic retention than conventional pasteurization. In vitro digestion results demonstrated that thermosonicated broccoli juice maintained significantly higher levels of TPC, FRAP, chlorophyll, and AA throughout gastrointestinal digestion, with higher TPC recovery (30.45%) than pasteurized samples (26.22%), indicating improved post-digestion bioaccessibility of phenolic compounds. Similar improvements were observed for antioxidant capacity and chlorophyll retention. Furthermore, PSO and GWO optimization results showed strong agreement with RSM predictions, confirming the robustness of the proposed optimization strategy. Overall, thermosonication was shown to effectively and sustainably enhance the functional quality, antioxidant properties, phenolic stability, and digestive bioaccessibility of broccoli juice.

3-D magnetotelluric modeling and radiogenic heat reservoir for EGS development: A case study of the Kestanbol Granitoid intrusion (NW Türkiye)

Büyük, Ersin; Hacioglu, Ozlem; Ayzit, Tolga; Baba, Alper

Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) provide firm, low-carbon baseload power and can contribute to reducing fossil-fuel-based energy generation. Granites and granitoids are particularly favourable EGS hosts due to their widespread occurrence, fracture-controlled permeability, and long-term heat supply from radiogenic decay. This study proposes an EGS development plan for the Kestanbol Granitoid Intrusion (KGI) in NW Anatolia, T & uuml;rkiye, based on a three-dimensional magnetotelluric (MT) model integrated with geochemical constraints on radiogenic heat production (RHP). We invert MT data acquired at fifty unevenly spaced sites to image the 3D resistivity structure of the KGI and its surroundings, resolving a highly resistive plutonic body bounded by relatively conductive fault-fracture zones. To quantify the radiogenic heat reservoir, we determine RHP rates from uranium, thorium, and potassium concentrations measured on twenty-seven rock samples from the KGI and adjacent lithologies, and integrate these values with the MT-derived pluton geometry. When combined with the regional stress regime, the integrated results indicate that the KGI hosts elevated RHP relative to surrounding rocks and that its internal structure and fault-controlled permeability architecture are favourable for EGS development. In particular, the north-western margin of the KGI emerges as the most promising target for injection-production well pairs. This workflow demonstrates how integrated MT, geochemical, and structural analyses can provide a quantitative, site-specific basis for EGS prospect ranking and drilling strategy in radiogenic granite/granitoid provinces. Overall, we propose a site-specific and risk-aware EGS development plan for the KGI that couples subsurface structure, radiogenic heat supply, and permeability architecture, providing a transferable framework for assessing radiogenic granite/granitoid provinces.

Ramifications of Türkiye's public engagement with polar regions

Limon, Onur; Caymaz, Ebru; Gurdal Limon, Elif; Demirayak, Ozgur; Dal, Adnan; Özsoy, Burcu

This study examines how T & uuml;rkiye's National Polar Science Programme (NPSP) and the National Polar Science Symposium (NPSS) define and implement public engagement within the country's emerging polar research framework. Situating T & uuml;rkiye's experience within broader international debates on public engagement in emerging and internationally governed scientific domains, the analysis draws on core science communication theories, including deficit-dialogue-participation models, typologies of public engagement, and co-production perspectives. Methodologically, the study employs qualitative document analysis of ten NPSP Monitoring and Assessment Reports (2018-2022) and seven NPSS abstract books (2017-2023), using an iterative and theory-informed coding process. The findings indicate that public engagement is predominantly shaped by informational and visibility-oriented strategies, while dialogic elements are gradually emerging through education- and youth-focused initiatives. However, institutionalised participatory mechanisms enabling public influence on research agendas remain limited. The study concludes that T & uuml;rkiye's public engagement trajectory reflects a hybrid and incremental configuration shaped by institutional development within an internationally governed research context. By treating the Turkish case as an analytically comparative example rather than a context-specific exception, the article contributes to international discussions on how public engagement is structured and institutionalised in emerging polar and climate research programmes.

Polar science diplomacy of Türkiye: the Second International Polar Year case

Limon, Onur; Gurdal Limon, Elif; Caymaz, Ebru; Demirayak, Ozgur; Dal, Adnan; Özsoy, Burcu

This article examines T & uuml;rkiye's participation in the Second International Polar Year (IPY-II, 1932-1933) as a historically grounded and underexplored case of early science diplomacy. IPY-II coordinated interdisciplinary polar research across forty-four countries, and T & uuml;rkiye's involvement during the early Republican period offers fresh insight into interwar scientific cooperation. The article documents T & uuml;rkiye's scientific and institutional contributions and analyses them through the reciprocal framework of science impacting diplomacy and diplomacy impacting science. Drawing on archival documents, official correspondence, parliamentary records, and contemporary newspapers, supplemented by expert interviews, it assesses the case against an explicit definition of science diplomacy. T & uuml;rkiye's meteorological data, later incorporated into the synoptic weather maps of the Northern Hemisphere, were scientifically significant, institutionally coordinated, and internationally recognised, yet shaped by asymmetrical hierarchies. The case enriches the historical understanding of science diplomacy by non-hegemonic states.

Computational gamma-ray attenuation and fast-neutron removal cross-section assessment of CrN, AlCrN and AlTiCrN ceramic coatings using EGS4 Monte Carlo and Phy-X/PSD

Sirin, Murat; Kaya, Selim; Aktarer, Semih Mahmut; Baltas, Hasan; Küçükömeroglu, Tevfik

In this study, the computationally predicted gamma-ray attenuation behavior and fast-neutron removal cross-section characteristics of micrometre-scale CrN, AlCrN, and AlTiCrN ceramic coatings produced via cathodic arc evaporation were investigated. The shielding parameters were not measured by direct gammaor neutron-transmission experiments; instead, mass attenuation coefficients (MAC, mu/rho) in the 0.05-2.50 MeV range were obtained from EGS4 Monte Carlo simulations and Phy-X/PSD calculations, and the agreement between the two computational datasets was evaluated. Energy-dependent attenuation parameters, including half-value layer (HVL), mean free path (MFP), effective atomic number (Zeff), radiation protection efficiency (RPE), and kerma coefficients, were calculated. Statistical comparison showed good consistency between EGS4 and Phy-X/PSD for MAC, RPE, HVL, MFP, and kerma coefficients, whereas Zeff exhibited larger method-dependent deviations. All coatings showed higher attenuation at low photon energies due to the photoelectric effect, while Compton scattering dominated at intermediate energies. Among the investigated coatings, CrN exhibited the most favorable calculated gamma-ray attenuation indicators, with lower HVL and MFP values and higher RPE values. The macroscopic fast-neutron removal cross-section (Sigma R) was also calculated as a first-order neutron attenuation indicator, and CrN showed the highest Sigma R value. Considering their limited thickness of approximately 2.3-2.8 mu m, these coatings should not be regarded as replacements for conventional bulk radiation shields. Instead, nitride-based ceramic coatings may serve as secondary or multifunctional surface layers in space-restricted components requiring local radiation attenuation and mechanical durability.

DO ENVIRONMENTAL INNOVATIONS, TRADE, AND ECONOMIC GROWTH AFFECT THE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES? PANEL AUGMENTED MEAN GROUP AND COMMON CORRELATED EFFECT ESTIMATIONS

    Akyol, Mehmet; Soyyigit, Semanur

This study assessed the environmental technological innovation (ETI) of the 13 countries with the highest industrial added value (China, the United States, Japan, Germany, India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia) over the period between 1992 and 2019. The objective is to evaluate the impact of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, trade openness (TO), and economic growth (EG) on the ecological footprint (EFP). In this study, a panel data analysis was conducted utilizing the second-generation PANIC unit root test, the Westerlund cointegration test, the Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test, and the common correlated effect mean group (CCEMG) and augmented mean group (AMG) estimator methods. The results of the analysis demonstrate that, according to the CCEMG, ETI exerts a mitigating influence on EFP in Indonesia. In numerous countries, CO2 has been observed to increase EFP, whereas in a select few countries, EG has been found to have a similar effect. Conversely, in China and South Korea, TO has been identified as a factor contributing to an increase in EFP, while in the United States, it has been identified as a factor that contributes to a decrease in EFP. The AMG indicates that ETI results in a decrease in EFP in Brazil and Indonesia, while simultaneously producing an increase in Mexico. While CO2 is observed to increase EFP in numerous countries, EG is seen to increase EFP in many countries, although this is only the case in India. TO is found to decrease EFP in China, India, South Korea, and Brazil, while simultaneously increasing it in Germany. The empirical evidence suggests that policies aimed at limiting uncontrolled economic growth, prioritising environmentally friendly technological innovations, improving international trade processes and policies with the objective of reducing emissions, and developing environmentally friendly processes and products in production are likely to be effective.
