- MakaleYalnız künye2021DETERMINATION OF THE HONEY PRODUCTION AREAS WITHIN LAND USE TYPES: A CASE STUDY TERCAN, TURKEY
Cakir, Gunay
Forestry makes decisions based on one of the tactical planning applications for decades' years. Especially forested areas and rangeland provide very wide support to the world in terms of fresh air and food. In particular, World areas provide a wide range of support for living things in terms of naturalness and nutrition. Honey is not only a source of healing for humans but also the richness of the natural. Honey producing activities (beekeeping) was generally done in the open areas in and around the forest or rangeland. This study was carried out in Tercan Forest Planning Unit (FPU) in 2013 to determine the areas of beekeeping with the help of high-resolution aerial photographs. Placed hive areas for honey production had been identified in Tercan FPU. The distances of honey production areas and other areas to land use types were determined in GIS environment. Of these 95 beehive areas had found in Tercan Forest Planning Units. These hive areas were produced to buffer zone map that is respectively 0-500 m, 501-1000 m, 1001-1500 m and 1501-2000 m. Analysis to the distance of the hive areas with land use maps has been determined in GIS environment. The estimated amount of honey production has been tried to be rubbed over honey hive numbers. The location of honey casings is generally found in the land use classes, which are close to freshwater.

Europe's forests provide vital habitat for biodiversity and essential ecosystem services whose provision must be sustained or enhanced over the coming century. However, the potential to secure or increase forest ecosystem services, while securing the habitat requirements of taxa remains unclear, especially within the context of uncertain climate and socio-economic developments. To tease out the associated trade-offs and synergies, we used 10 case study landscapes within nine countries throughout Europe. Starting with the current status of the forests in the case study landscapes, we simulated forest development 100 years into the future. Simulations were embedded in three combined climate and socio-economic frame scenarios based on global and European policies which varied in their climate change mitigation efficiency. Scenarios were translated into country specific projections of climate variables, and resultant demands for wood products. Forest management regimes were projected to vary in response to these scenarios at local scales. The specific combinations of alternative forest management practices were based on parallel research and input from local forest stakeholders. For each case study, a specific forest growth simulator was used. In general, the climate scenarios applied did not cause fundamentally different ecosystem service outputs at the case study level. Our results revealed almost no reduction in outcomes for biodiversity indicators with an increase in wood production, and in some cases synergistic results occurred when diversity was actively promoted as part of the management concept. Net carbon uptake was not strongly correlated with biodiversity, indicating that biodiversity-friendly forest management doesn't need to curtail carbon sequestration. Notably, we obtained heterogeneous results for the relation between sustainable wood production and net carbon uptake. Most scenarios resulted in a more or less reduced net carbon uptake over the long term, often due to stand age class distribution shifts. Levels of sustainable wood production varied widely during the simulation period, from significant increases (Sweden, Lithuania) to minor changes (Slovakia, Turkey) and slight decreases (Ireland, Netherlands). We place our results within the larger context of European forest policy and the challenges of simulating and contrasting forest biodiversity and the ecosystem services that societies depend on.

Keleş, Sedat; Durusoy, İdris; Çakir, Günay
We used geographical information system to analyze changes in forest ecosystem functions, structure and composition in a typical department of forest management area consisting of four forest management planning units in Turkey. To assess these effects over a 25 year period we compiled data from three forest management plans that were made in 1986, 2001 and 2011. Temporal changes in forest ecosystem functions were estimated based on the three pillars of forest sustainability: economics, ecology and socio-culture. We assessed a few indicators such as land-use and forest cover, forest types, tree species, development stage, stand age classes, crown closure, growing stock and its increment, and timber biomass. The results of the case study suggested a shift in forest values away from economic values toward ecological and socio-cultural values over last two planning periods. Forest ecosystem structure improved, due mainly to increasing forest area, decreasing non-forest areas (especially in settlement and agricultural areas), forestation on forest openings, rehabilitation of degraded forests, conversion of even-aged forests to uneven-aged forests and conversion of coppice forests to high forests with greater growing stock increments. There were also favorable changes in forest management planning approaches.

- MakaleYalnız künye2016Preparing Forest Management Plans With Spatial Simulation Model
Kadiogullari, Ali Ihsan; Keles, Sedat; Baskent, Emin Zeki; Bingöl, Ozkan
This manuscript presents a simulation-based spatial forest management planning model developed for ecosystem-based multiple use forest planning approach. The general framework of the simulation model was firstly introduced. It was then implemented in a typical forest management planning unit. Four forest management planning scenarios including nonspatial and spatial characteristics were developed. These scenarios were compared in the context of different forest performance indicators (such as allowable cut, growing stock, net carbon sequestration, age-class distribution at the end of the simulation). When compared the simulation-based forest management planning scenarios, it was found that there were no significant changes in timber production levels among scenarios. On the other hand, spatial forest management scenarios controlled forest ecosystem structure and produced more applicable forest management plans.

Çakir, Günay; Özdemir, Mehmet
The forest conservation organizations in Turkey have recommended changing the classical forest management systems to protect forest biodiversity since 2006. This study discusses the spatio-temporal analysis of forest management activities and land use changes in Yalova Forest Ecosystems, Turkey. We focused on the Yalova City because (a) it is located in a highly urbanized area, northwestern Turkey, (b) forest is a governmental ownership and producing of many non-wood forest product and wildlife species, (c) governmental organizations are encouraged to be decreased clear-cuts to protect forest ecosystems; (d) GIS databases are available in Yalova; (e) Yalova Forestry Administration has a membership of the Mediterranean Model Forest Network in 2011, and (f) many new forest policies will be developed in Turkey after the membership of the model forest. This study used forest management plans of Yalova Forest during 1971–2008 periods and analyzed data in geographic information system (GIS). Results showed that the rate of forest area in the Yalova steadily increased from 53.4 % in 1971 to 61.2 % to 62.5 % between 1994 and 2008 respectively.

- MakaleYalnız künye2012Producing Draft Forest Stand Type Map Using Previous Stand Type Maps and High Resolution Satellite Images
Çakir, Gunay
The aims of study, we investigated of how to use produce accuracy of draft stand type map based on previous stand type maps and high resolution satellite image. The study area was Honaz Forest Enterprise in Denizli. Areal inventory in forest management plans produced combine inventory methods in Turkey. Forest management plan's stand type maps have been produced two stages. Firstly obtained remotely sensed data has been interpreted and secondly corrected of draft stand type maps with areal inventory/observation. Producing process of draft stand type map have been evaluated simultaneously thorough up-to-date high-resolution satellite images and previous forest management plan in geographic information systems. Between new stand type map and draft stand type map compared accuracy values in geographic information systems. As a result two stand type maps were similarity 58.4% stand type, 60.7% development stage and 68.4% crown closure.
