Gait recognition is a biometrics-based computer vision process used to identify people based on their walking styles. Compared to other types of biometrics, gait offers a more advantageous recognition process as it does not require high-resolution and close-range images and obtains without contact. But besides this, gait biometrics is highly affected by cross-view variation, and under this variation recognition performance decreases significantly. In this study, performance evaluations of fine-tuned VGG-16 and ResNet-50 deep CNN networks on the cross-view gait recognition problem are performed. For this purpose, Gait energy images (GEI) and Silhouettes obtained from CASIA-B, the most comprehensive data set in gait recognition, are given as input to the networks. The experimental results showed that the VGG-16 network achieved higher recognition rates in cross-view gait recognition.

Pneumonia can be cause diseases such as cough, fever and respiratory problems and to death in the progressive situations. Mostly lung x-ray images are used for diagnosis of pneumonia. In this study, an unique convolutional neural network model that can help experts in detection of pneumonia using lung x-ray images below 5 years of age. In the model, open access to 5840 images has been used, and various data increasing methods were used to increase the performance of the training and the success of the method. With the proposed convolutional neural network model, an accuracy rate of 94.55% has been achieved.

Europe's forests provide vital habitat for biodiversity and essential ecosystem services whose provision must be sustained or enhanced over the coming century. However, the potential to secure or increase forest ecosystem services, while securing the habitat requirements of taxa remains unclear, especially within the context of uncertain climate and socio-economic developments. To tease out the associated trade-offs and synergies, we used 10 case study landscapes within nine countries throughout Europe. Starting with the current status of the forests in the case study landscapes, we simulated forest development 100 years into the future. Simulations were embedded in three combined climate and socio-economic frame scenarios based on global and European policies which varied in their climate change mitigation efficiency. Scenarios were translated into country specific projections of climate variables, and resultant demands for wood products. Forest management regimes were projected to vary in response to these scenarios at local scales. The specific combinations of alternative forest management practices were based on parallel research and input from local forest stakeholders. For each case study, a specific forest growth simulator was used. In general, the climate scenarios applied did not cause fundamentally different ecosystem service outputs at the case study level. Our results revealed almost no reduction in outcomes for biodiversity indicators with an increase in wood production, and in some cases synergistic results occurred when diversity was actively promoted as part of the management concept. Net carbon uptake was not strongly correlated with biodiversity, indicating that biodiversity-friendly forest management doesn't need to curtail carbon sequestration. Notably, we obtained heterogeneous results for the relation between sustainable wood production and net carbon uptake. Most scenarios resulted in a more or less reduced net carbon uptake over the long term, often due to stand age class distribution shifts. Levels of sustainable wood production varied widely during the simulation period, from significant increases (Sweden, Lithuania) to minor changes (Slovakia, Turkey) and slight decreases (Ireland, Netherlands). We place our results within the larger context of European forest policy and the challenges of simulating and contrasting forest biodiversity and the ecosystem services that societies depend on.

This manuscript presents a simulation-based spatial forest management planning model developed for ecosystem-based multiple use forest planning approach. The general framework of the simulation model was firstly introduced. It was then implemented in a typical forest management planning unit. Four forest management planning scenarios including nonspatial and spatial characteristics were developed. These scenarios were compared in the context of different forest performance indicators (such as allowable cut, growing stock, net carbon sequestration, age-class distribution at the end of the simulation). When compared the simulation-based forest management planning scenarios, it was found that there were no significant changes in timber production levels among scenarios. On the other hand, spatial forest management scenarios controlled forest ecosystem structure and produced more applicable forest management plans.
- BildiriYalnız künye2015Improvement of Palmprint Coding Techniques with Feature Descriptors
Bingöl, Ozkan; Ekinci, Murat
In recent years, biometric palmprint recognition system is one of the preferred research areas due to reach high accuracy even with the low resolution cameras. In recent studies conducted in this area, especially due to hygiene problems, images are taken in contactless and unrestricted environment. Despite a very successful improving methods have been developed for the images obtained in the restricted environment, shifts or projective distortions that occur in the palm pattern obtained from images taken in unconstrained environments negatively affect the success of this method. In this study, coding techniques that are commonly used palmprint recognition systems (Competitive Code, Ordinal Code, Derivative of Gaussian Filters Code) are strengthened with feature determinants (SIFT, SURF) and a new approach has been proposed. Scope of the study, a new data set consists of low-resolution images taken in unconstrained environments created and palmprint patterns obtained with the help of Active Appearance Model. First, performance rate of these coding techniques on the patterns were analyzed. Then, the advantages of 6 different approaches obtained by combining each feature determinant with each coding technique, is disclosed to the system.

Kadiogullari, Ali Ihsan; Keles, Sedat; Baskent, Emin Zeki; Bingöl, Ozkan
Spatial Decision Support System is indispensable to develop spatial planning alternative by integrating spatial parameters into forest management plans using ecosystem based multiple use forest management planning concept (EBMUFM). Spatial forest planning provides several opportunities to decision makers to generate spatially implementable harvest schedules and perform spatial analyses as part of integrated planning. This paper presents the role and importance of spatial forest planning in forest management, and evaluates it in the context of Turkish forestry. Basic concepts related to spatial forest planning are explained. Some important intuitive decision support techniques (modeling techniques) widely used in spatial forest management planning were introduced. Further, spatial decision support systems for forest management planning developed in various countries were provided. Finally, it is concluded that spatial forest planning is extremely needed in EBMUFM.
- BildiriYalnız künye2015Detection of Copy-Move Forgery Using DoGCode
Türk, Salih; Bingöl, Ozkan; Ulutas, Guzin
Copy-move forgery is performed as a part of an image is copied and moved to another region within the same image. For the detection of this type of forgery, usually, feature vectors of the image are created by dividing the image into sub-blocks. Then the feature vector of the region is compared with other regions in the image to reach a conclusion if they are matched. In this study, to determine the copy-move forgery, DoG Coding technique which is more resistant to changes in image brightness is used. Coded new image is formed with the help of this technique often preferred in the palmprint recognition systems and features are determined by dividing the image into sub-blocks. Block based region growing segmentation method have been developed to determine the size of the copied region. Proposed this new approach has been successfully applied on images in the CoMoFod dataset prepared by different scenarios.
- BildiriYalnız künye20133D Palmprint Pose Estimation Using Stereo Camera
Bingöl, Ozkan; Ekinci, Murat
Although studies on the palm recognition systems achieving are high performance ratios, hygiene problems in contact systems and change of hand pose in contactless systems were encountered. 3D recognition systems is proposed for solve these problems. But, these systems did not find the opportunity to become widespread because of expensive technologies and low scanning speed. In this study was proposed a method for detemined pose variations of palmprint using stereo cameras and transferring patterns that to be used for recognition to 2D space. Thus, both a non-contact system will be obtained and can be used properties of strong 2D recognition systems.
