- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Effect of Breastfeeding Education Delivered Through Motivational Interviewing on Breastfeeding Motivation, Self-Efficacy, and Maternal Bonding in Mothers Giving Vaginal Birth: Randomized, Controlled Trial
Palancı Ay, Özge; Aktaş, Songül
Objectives: This study examined the effect of breastfeeding education using the motivational interviewing technique on breastfeeding motivation, self-efficacy, and mother–infant bonding in mothers who gave birth vaginally. Methods: This randomized, controlled trial included 80 primiparous mothers. The experimental group received breastfeeding education with the motivational interviewing technique at four time points. Data were collected using Maternal Descriptive Information Form (MDIF), the Primiparous Breastfeeding Motivation Scale (PBMS), the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale (BSES), the Mother–Infant Bonding Scale (MIBS), and the Motivational Interviewing Importance and Confidence-Efficacy Rating Scale. Data were collected at three time points: immediately before training (pretest), 15 days following completion of the training (post-test), and 4 weeks thereafter (follow-up). Data were evaluated using Student’s t test, Mann–Whitney U test, analysis of variance, Friedman variance test, and intention-to-treat analysis. Results: In the post-test and follow-up evaluations, the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores than the control group in the “Value ascribed to breastfeeding” (p < 0.001 and p = 0.004, respectively) and “Midwife support” (p < 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively) subdimensions of the PBMS as well as in “Motivational interviewing importance” (p < 0.005) and “Confidence-efficacy rating scale” (p < 0.001). During the follow-up period, the experimental group also showed significantly higher scores in the “Self-efficacy” subdimension (p < 0.001) and total mean scores of the BSES (p = 0.033) and MIBS (p = 0.002) than the control group. However, the “Expectation of success” subdimension score of the PBMS was not significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Breastfeeding education using the motivational interviewing technique enhances breastfeeding motivation (including values ascribed to breastfeeding, self-efficacy, and midwife support), breastfeeding self-efficacy, mother–infant bonding, and the importance and confidence-efficacy levels in breastfeeding. © The Author(s) 2026. Özer, Şükrü; Odaci, Hatice
This study aims to explore the associations among relationship quality, cognitive flexibility, cognitive emotion regulation, and subjective well-being in married individuals in Turkey. Using a cross-sectional correlational design, we collected data from 1,013 married participants (mean age = 40.65; 52.5% male). Results indicated that relationship quality was positively associated with subjective well-being, cognitive flexibility, and adaptive emotion regulation strategies and negatively associated with maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies. Cognitive flexibility and adaptive emotion-regulation strategies were positively associated with subjective well-being, whereas maladaptive strategies were negatively associated. Mediation analyses revealed significant indirect associations between relationship quality and subjective well-being through cognitive flexibility and both adaptive and maladaptive emotion-regulation strategies. These findings highlight patterns of association among relational and cognitive-emotional variables in marital well-being and may inform future research and clinical practice.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026The past scene of hospitality ethics: A citation analysis perspective
Polat, Eray; Köseoglu, Mehmet Ali
The literature on ethics research in hospitality has significantly expanded in recent years. The objective of this study is to present a comprehensive overview of ethical research in the field of hospitality literature. This will facilitate insight into future developments by examining the past. A two-step approach is employed, comprising citation analysis, a bibliometric analysis technique, and a systematic review. The former is used to identify themes, which are then discussed in the latter. The citation analysis revealed five main themes of the domain: environmental concerns, organisational citizenship behaviour, reputation management and ethical leadership. Environmental concerns were examined from two perspectives: the viewpoint of hotels and the environmental behaviours of tourists and consumers. Subsequently, a systematic review was conducted using the TCM framework (theory/context/methodology) with the objective of identifying the most prominent theories, contexts, and methodological issues associated with each theme. The issue has predominantly been discussed using quantitative analysis and social-based theories. Research has been mainly conducted in the US and the EU. Environmental ethics is likely to remain a significant area of concern in the future. This study offers a perspective that can aid researchers in developing future studies on ethics and help practitioners enhance the ethical climate of the industry.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Development of gluten-free cookie using composite flour from corn and lentil flours: Study by response surface methodology
Bursa, Batuhan; İlyasoğlu, Huri
The demand for gluten-free foods has increased due to health-based issues and lifestyle choices. This study aimed to develop a gluten-free cookie with enhanced nutritional value. For this reason, the composite flour from corn flour (CF) and lentil flour (LF) was prepared for cookie formulation. To eliminate the possible negative impact of LF on the sensorial properties of the cookie, lemon peel powder (LPP) was incorporated into the cookie formulation. The effects of the LF level of composite flour and the incorporation level of LPP on the physical, textural, and sensorial properties of the cookie were investigated via response methodology. The optimal levels were found as 16 g LF and 1 g LPP for 100 g composite flour. The physical, textural, and sensorial properties, proximate composition, vitamin C and total phenolic contents, and antioxidant capacity of the developed cookie and control cookies were determined. The developed cookie had a higher nutritional value than the control cookie made from CF in terms of protein, dietary fibre, ash, and vitamin C. Moreover, it presented higher total phenolic content and radical scavenging activity. According to these results, the developed cookie can be proposed for a gluten-free diet.

The use of the internet has become an increasingly integral part of individuals’ daily lives, bringing negative consequences such as internet addiction. Understanding the motivations behind internet use is crucial for preventing addiction and developing effective intervention strategies. The objectives of this study are to test the validity and reliability of the Questionnaire of Internet Use Motives (MUI) among Turkish adults and to investigate the predictive effects of socio-demographic variables and internet use motivations on internet addiction. The study was conducted with a sample of 640 adults selected through convenience sampling at two different time points. The majority of participants were women, highly educated, and from a middle socioeconomic background. Data were collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Questionnaire of Internet Use Motives (MUI), and the Internet Addiction Test (IAT). To evaluate the structural validity of the scale, a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed. Additionally, measurement invariance across genders was examined, and Hierarchical Multiple Linear Regression Analyses were conducted to identify predictors of internet addiction. CFA confirmed the structural validity of the MUI, revealing a five-factor structure with a good fit to the data. The five identified motives were enhancement, coping, social, conformity, and utility. The analyses also demonstrated that the scale possesses convergent and discriminant validity, as well as high reliability. Furthermore, the instrument exhibited measurement invariance across genders. Significant predictors of internet addiction included educational level, socioeconomic status, and the enhancement, social, coping, and conformity motives. The validated MUI provides a robust tool for assessing internet use motives in Turkish adults, offering a foundation for future research and intervention development. Addressing psychological motives such as enhancement, social, coping, and conformity in prevention and treatment strategies may reinforce efforts to mitigate problematic internet use.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025The Relationship Between Parental Acceptance and Loneliness Levels of Turkish University Students: The Mediating Role of Coping Self-Efficacy
Odaci, Hatice; Akdeniz, Burak; Türkkan, Tuğba
In today's world, where young adults face increasing psychological and social challenges, understanding the factors that influence loneliness has become more critical than ever. This study examines whether perceived self-efficacy mediates the relationship between parental acceptance and loneliness in university students. The study population consists of undergraduate students studying at universities affiliated with the Council of Higher Education in Türkiye. Data were collected with demographic information form created by the researchers, UCLA Loneliness Scale, Adult Parental Acceptance-Rejection Scale, Coping Self-Efficacy Scale. Independent samples t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used for comparisons between groups, and Pearson's correlation analysis and mediation analysis were used to analyze the relationships between variables. According to the results, the level of acceptance perceived by male students from their mothers was higher than that of female students. There is a significant negative relationship exists between loneliness levels and parental acceptance of university students. It was found that parental acceptance scores significantly predicted loneliness and coping self-efficacy scores. This study shows that self-efficacy has a partial mediating role in the relationship between parental acceptance and loneliness and that self-efficacy may create resistance against negative emotions. Identifying this relationship and potential mediating effects at an early stage is important for strengthening the family environment and promoting healthy child development. This study will contribute to the literature with new findings to identify protective factors and develop psychosocial interventions for young adults struggling with loneliness.

Ilhan-Nas, Tulay; Saglam, Aysegul; Okan, Tarhan; Peker, Iskender
Industry 4.0, whose effects have been more and more noticeable in recent years, and the digital change it brings call for a new educational model that aligns university instructional processes and curricula with the demands of business. This approach, known as University 4.0, intends to promote more technology-based applications, the power of innovation, the training of skilled specialists to satisfy industrial needs, and the development of competences that can achieve multidisciplinary projects. It is of utmost importance to adapt late-industrializing nations’ educational systems, such as Turkey’s, to this change process. The aim of this research, which takes the Turkish context as a reference, is to reveal how the curricula and educational processes of business schools should be shaped with a perspective that takes into account the human resources requirements of industry 4.0. A decision-making technique that integrates QFD, Delphi, and DEMATEL methods was employed in the study. The results clearly show that the most important expectation for social stakeholders is to provide university-industry cooperation. However, some of the most pressing problems include applied learning through collaborative educational experiences, teamwork skills, changing roles and competencies of academics. The findings point out that the educational activities of business schools must be linked with industry expectations through technology-based training activities and teamwork.

Magnesium–lithium alloy is used in different areas of industry and is known as a super light metallic engineering material. However, the use of these alloys is limited due to their surface properties under extreme loads and aggressive environments. Surface treatments can be applied to these alloys to increase their usage areas and improve their weak surface properties. In this study, the micro-arc oxidation method was applied to improve the surface properties of LA91 alloy. The corrosion and adhesion behaviour of the coated samples were investigated. The lowest corrosion current density in the coatings was obtained under Experiment 3. Experiment 3 has the highest Lc2 value due to the coating thickness and the denser and smaller diameter pores of the functional intermediate layer.

Pekmez is a concentrated syrup-like food conventionally produced by vacuum evaporation process from sugar-rich fruits. In this study, the applicability of grape pekmez production by ohmic heating assisted vacuum evaporation (ΩVE) method was investigated. Conventional vacuum evaporation (CVE) and ΩVE methods were compared in terms of physicochemical properties, HMF (5-hydroxymethylfurfural) contents, rheological properties, and energy consumptions. ΩVE was run at four different voltage gradients (17.5, 20, 22.5, and 25 V/cm). Total process times for grape pekmez production were determined as 57, 28.5, 32, 39, and 50 minutes for CVE, ΩVE (25 V/cm), ΩVE (22.5 V/cm), ΩVE (20 V/cm) and ΩVE (17.5 V/cm), respectively. Energy consumption of CVE method was higher than ΩVE method for all voltage gradients. Energy efficiency increased as the voltage gradient increased. There was no significant difference between CVE and ΩVE methods for HMF contents. The results show that the ΩVE method could be an alternative to the CVE process for grape pekmez production.
- MakaleYalnız künye2022Resilient active seismic response control of structural systems
Çetin, Gökhan; Fadali, Mohammed S; Pekcan, Gökhan
This paper proposes a dissipative resilient observer and controller (DROC) design for a network controlled system (NCS) that handles faults, implementation errors, or cyberattacks that can be modeled as bounded controller or observer gain perturbations. It presents linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions for the robust stability of the system in the presence of bounded perturbations in the observer and controller. Furthermore, a new LMI-based time-delay control (TDC) algorithm that mitigates the effects of perturbations due to time-delays in the NCS is introduced. The robust methodology is applied to active control of a scaled model of a structural system equipped with an active mass driver system. The results demonstrate that the proposed methodology is robust and ensures stable system response due to various types of earthquake base excitations.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2022Investigation of Factors That May Affect the Commitment of Healthcare Professionals to Their Works During the COVID-19 Pandemic Period
Akyüz, Ahmet Mutlu; Durmuş, İbrahim
The environment of uncertainty created by the COVID-19 pandemic period has caused difficulties especially for healthcare professionals in their work activities. The purpose of this research is to find out which variables might affect the commitment of healthcare professionals to their works during this COVID-19 period. Based on the data announced by the Ministry of Health during the pandemic in the first quarter of 2021, it was decided to conduct a research on doctors, nurses, caregivers, and medical secretaries working in hospitals in the cities of the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey which generally show high risk. In the developed research model, satisfactory conditions (SC), emotional commitment to change (ECC), and psychological ownership (PO) as variables that may directly or indirectly affect the commitment of healthcare professionals to their works (CW) were used. The Smart PLS program was used in the analysis of the research model and hypothesis. It was seen that the ECC of healthcare professionals has a positive and significant (.694; p <.000) effect on SC. It was understood that the PO of healthcare professionals has positive and significant effects on their CW (.394; p <.000). It was also observed that the presence of SC has positive and significant effects on the PO of the healthcare professionals in the current situation (.796; p <.000). It was observed that only the effect of ECC of healthcare professionals on their CW is insignificant (.097; p >.086). Looking at the indirect (intermediary) effects obtained as a result of the research, it was seen that all of the hypotheses consist of positive coefficients. This situation reveals that the mediating variables have complementary effects on the obtained results.
- MakaleYalnız künye2022Proportional control moment gyroscope for two-wheeled self-balancing robot
Ünker, Faruk
A two-wheeled self-balancing robot is considered for investigating the responses of a control moment gyroscope powered by a proportional controller to prevent the robot rollover against the constant inertia forces because of accelerations of the wheels of the robot. The amplitudes of the frequency equations related to the required angular momentum of flywheels with an optimum controller gain were also found. A simulation model of the robot using computer-aided engineering software (RecurDyn) is built to verify the equations of a Lagrangian model. The results of both obtained from the Lagrangian and that from RecurDyn simulations are analyzed comparatively, in which the proportional control loop reduces the required flywheel speeds Ω of gyros and keeps the robot in a very small amplitude of a stable sinusoidal motion in the upright position.
- MakaleYalnız künye2020A review study on using diethyl ether in diesel engines: Effects on fuel properties, injection, and combustion characteristics
Sezer, İsmet
This study was compiled from the results of various researches performed on using diethyl ether as a fuel or fuel additive in diesel engines. Three different techniques are used, the reduction of the harmful exhaust emissions of diesel engines. The first technique for the reduction of harmful emissions has improved the combustion by modification of engine design and fuel injection system, but this process is expensive and time-consuming. The second technique is the use of various exhaust gas devices like catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter. However, the use of these devices affects negatively diesel engine performance. The final technique to reduce emissions and also improve diesel engine performance is the use of various alternative fuels or fuel additives. The major pollutants of diesel engines are nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. It is very difficult to reduce nitrogen oxides and particulate matter emissions simultaneously in practice. Most researches declare that the best way to reduce these emissions is the use of various alternative fuels i.e. natural gas, biogas, biodiesel, or the use of fuel additives with these alternative fuels or conventional diesel fuel. Therefore, it is very important that the results of various studies on alternative fuels or fuel additives are evaluated together for practice applications. Especially, this study focuses on the use of diethyl ether in diesel engines as fuel or fuel additive in various diesel engine fuels. This review study investigates the effects of diethyl ether on the fuel properties, injection, and combustion characteristics.
- MakaleYalnız künye2018Dynamic response of a historical armory building using the finite element model validated by the ambient vibration test
Altunişik, Ahmet Can; Genç, Ali Fuat; Günaydin, Murat; Okur, Fatih Yesevi; Karahasan, Olguhan Şevket
In this paper, the aim was to determine the nonlinear dynamic response of historical masonry armory buildings using a validated finite element model. Eight ambient vibration tests were conducted on the building, using three different measurement test setups to extract the dynamic characteristics using the Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition method. A finite element model was constructed in ANSYS and the dynamic characteristics were obtained numerically. It can be seen that there is a good correlation between the mode shapes, but there are differences in natural frequencies with maximum values of 10.1%, 7.4% and 13.4% for first the three modes. To determine the nonlinear dynamic response, the validated finite element model was analyzed using the Kocaeli earthquake motion. The Drucker–Prager criterion and Willam–Warnke surface were considered for the nonlinear material models. At the end of the analyses, maximum displacements, principal stresses and strains are given in detail using contour diagrams. It is evident that the displacements show an increasing trend from the base to the top point of the building. Stresses occurred on the corners, openings and transition segments. In addition, crack distribution diagrams were drawn up to illustrate the stress accumulation points.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2016Role of oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of Toxoplasma gondii infection
Dincel, Gungor Cagdas; Atmaca, Hasan Tarik
Oxidative stress (OS) plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of common neurodegenerative diseases. We have previously shown that Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) induces high nitric oxide (NO) production, glial activation, and apoptosis that altogether cause severe neuropathology in toxoplasma encephalitis (TE). The objective of this study was to investigate the cytotoxic effect of OS and to identify a correlation between the causes of T. gondii induced neuropathology. Expression levels of glutathione reductase (GR), Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1), neuron specific enolase (NSE), and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) were investigated. Results of the study revealed that the levels of GR (P <0.005) and NSE (P <0.001) expression in the brain tissue markedly increased while SOD1 activity decreased (P <0.001) in the infected group compared to the non-infected group. In addition, intense staining for 8-OHdG (P <0.05) was observed both in the nucleus and the cytoplasm of neurons and glial cells that underwent OS. These results were reasonable to suggest that T. gondii-mediated OS might play a pivotal role and a different type of role in the mechanism of neurodegeneration/neuropathology in the process of TE. The results also clearly indicated that increased levels of NO and apoptosis might contribute to OS-related pathogenesis of TE. As a result, OS and expression of NSE might give an idea of the disease progress and may have a critical diagnostic significance for patients with T. gondii infection.
