- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2018Edible Film and Coating Applications in Fruits and Vegetables
Okcu, Zuhal; Yavuz, Yasemin; Kerse, Sevgi
Different preservation and packing techniques are applied to maintain quality and safety during food transportation and storage. Changing in world and increasing consumer demands led to new techniques and procedures in packing. Light, easy opening, eco-friendly, bioplastic and edible packaging materials are improved to resolve problems that occured nowadays. Edible packaging material are environment-friendly because they decompose quickly in nature even if don't consume. In addition edible films increase food's organoleptic properties and support nutritional values when used with inserted supporting member. Fruits and vegetables are high sensitive product; therefore, attention should be paid while transporting and storing and they must be packed in the right way.. Delaying ripening and reducing loss of weight in fruit and vegetable could be supplied with edible films and coatings.
- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2018Problems Face to Organic Forage Plant Improvement and Their Recommended Solutions
Okcu, Melih
As the world's population increases tremendously, mankind harmed the environment by applying different techniques to be able to close the deficit for food and consequently this resulted in the questioning of the effects of production techniques on food security, quality, animal welfare and their impacts on environment. Organic agriculture is developed with the help of policies that are driven by environmental and food safety. Organic livestock farming increased correlated to the increase of organic agriculture. However, getting healthy, safe and sound products from animals is only possible with the consumption of well qualified feed. Nowadays, unsatisfactory field productions, improper soil cultivation methods and more other obstacles which restrict the improvement of forage plants. In this review article, the current situation of cultivation in Turkey as well as in the world, imperfections and solution offers to those problems are stated.
- MakaleYalnız künye2016Preparing Forest Management Plans With Spatial Simulation Model
Kadiogullari, Ali Ihsan; Keles, Sedat; Baskent, Emin Zeki; Bingöl, Ozkan
This manuscript presents a simulation-based spatial forest management planning model developed for ecosystem-based multiple use forest planning approach. The general framework of the simulation model was firstly introduced. It was then implemented in a typical forest management planning unit. Four forest management planning scenarios including nonspatial and spatial characteristics were developed. These scenarios were compared in the context of different forest performance indicators (such as allowable cut, growing stock, net carbon sequestration, age-class distribution at the end of the simulation). When compared the simulation-based forest management planning scenarios, it was found that there were no significant changes in timber production levels among scenarios. On the other hand, spatial forest management scenarios controlled forest ecosystem structure and produced more applicable forest management plans.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2014Structural Analysis of Forest Product Businesses in GumushaneProvince
Top, Yener; Adanur, Hakan; Öz, Mehmet; Yasar, Mehmet
In total, 95% of all business enterprises established in Turkey are micro-scale, and this figure increases to 98.6% in the forest products industry. Micro-scale enterprises are important in terms of production, employment, and overcoming economic imbalances among regions. The forest products industry, which includes three subdivisions within the manufacturing sector, occupies an important place in the overall Turkish manufacturing sector. Thus, this study examined the structural characteristics of forest product enterprises in Gumushane Province. The research involved in-person interviews with personnel at 47 enterprises. The data revealed that the sawmill division was especially important with respect to the use of local poplar logs. The sawmill and furniture divisions accounted for 28% of all enterprises and 26% of all employees in the manufacturing sector in Gumushane. We found that 57% of enterprises had difficulty in finding working capital and 55% of enterprises experienced shortages of labour. The average contribution of each forest products business to employment (2.55) was more than that of other manufacturers in Gumushane (2.27). The forest product businesses in Gumushane resemble other micro-scale enterprises located in other regions of Turkey in terms of their structural properties.
- MakaleYalnız künye2013Antioxidant Analysis Methods and Some Non-Wood Forest Plant Products as Sources of Antioxidants in Eastern Black Sea Region
Okan, Onur Tolga; Varlibas, Hulya; Öz, Mehmet; Deniz, Ilhan
Eastern Black Sea region has wide genetically plant diversity due to physical and different climatic characteristic. These plants, which are potential source of antioxidants, prevent the oxidative stres caused by oxygen and photons at the same time. Interest of antioxidant compound has been increased for last years. The reason of this, it is believed that an increased intake of food, which is rich in natural antioxidant, is associated with a lower risk of degenerative diseases. In this study, 10 plants, which are sources of antioxidant and marketable in Eastern Black Sea region, were chosen. Antioxidant activity and potentials use area of these plants were examined. Moreover, antioxidant compounds and determination of antioxidant activity methods were discussed.
- MakaleYalnız künye2012Producing Draft Forest Stand Type Map Using Previous Stand Type Maps and High Resolution Satellite Images
Çakir, Gunay
The aims of study, we investigated of how to use produce accuracy of draft stand type map based on previous stand type maps and high resolution satellite image. The study area was Honaz Forest Enterprise in Denizli. Areal inventory in forest management plans produced combine inventory methods in Turkey. Forest management plan's stand type maps have been produced two stages. Firstly obtained remotely sensed data has been interpreted and secondly corrected of draft stand type maps with areal inventory/observation. Producing process of draft stand type map have been evaluated simultaneously thorough up-to-date high-resolution satellite images and previous forest management plan in geographic information systems. Between new stand type map and draft stand type map compared accuracy values in geographic information systems. As a result two stand type maps were similarity 58.4% stand type, 60.7% development stage and 68.4% crown closure.
