- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Effects of Varying Ratios of Hawthorn Fruit Extract on Nesfatin-1, GLP-1 and cTnI Response in Streptozotocin-induced Diabetic Rats
Özcan, G. Böyük; Kaya, H.
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the ef fects of Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) Fruit Extract on the response of nesfatin-1, Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Methods: This study utilized 64 adult male Wistar albino rats, aged 8-10 weeks and weighing an average of 195-215 g. Eight groups were randomly selected, each comprising eight rats designated as Control (C), H100, H200, H300; Diabetes Control (DC), DH100, DH200, DH300. Blood samples were collected from the tail vein (vena caudalis) of all individuals on days 0 and 21 of the research. The serum levels of Nesfatin-1, GLP-1 and cTnI were quantified and assessed using the ELISA technique. Result: In diabetic groups, the increase in serum mean nesfatin-1 and cTnI levels was most pronounced in DC groups, while the most significant decrease due to increased HFE supplementation was observed in DR200 groups (p<0.01); whereas in diabetic groups, the decrease in serum mean GLP-1 levels was observed in DC group, while the most significant increase due to increased HFE supplementation was detected in DG200 group. As a result, it was concluded that 200 mg/kg RPE administration to healthy and di abetic rats di d not cause any side eff ects. It was concluded that HFE, which has an anti-diabetic eff ect by regulating the inflammatory response that plays a role in the development of diabetes, decreasing nesfatin-1 levels and increasing GLP-1 levels, may be useful in supporting the impaired pancreatic beta cell function that occurs in diabetes.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2023The Effects of Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) Fruit Extract on Performance, Carcass and Some Serum Parameters of Broilers Reared Under Heat-Stress Conditions[2]
Kaya, Hacer
Background: The present experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of heat stress (HS) and hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) fruit extract (HFE) on performance, carcass characteristics and serum parameters in broiler chickens. Methods: Experimental treatments included two different ambient temperatures (24°C: thermoneutral conditions, or 35°C: HS conditions) and three different HFE (0, 0.2 and 0.4 ml/L) in a 2×3 factorial arrangement. A total of 300 1-day-old broiler chicks were randomly allotted 1 of 6 treatments with five replicates. A total of 300 1-day old broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 6 groups with five replications of 10 birds each. HFE supplementation had no effect on growth performance, carcass characteristics and visceral weight in stressed groups (P>0.05). It was also determined that it has a lowering effect on serum malondialdehyde (MDA), free fatty acid (FFA), triacylglyceride (TAG), total lipid (TL) and low density lipoproteins (LDL) (P<0.05), but it has no effect on other parameters (P>0.05). Result: As a result, it is thought that the addition of HFE to the drinking water of broiler chickens exposed to HS has no effect on the performance characteristics, HFE has a hypolipidemic effect and would be beneficial in order to strengthen the immune system.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2023The Effect of Organic Hawthorn (Crataegus tanacetifolia) Fruit Vinegar Supplement on Growth Performance, Carcass Characteristics and Some Serum Parameters in Broiler Chickens Subjected to Cyclic Heat Stress
Kaya, H.
Background: This study, it was aimed to determine the effects of adding organic hawthorn (Crataegus tanacetifolia) fruit vinegar (HFV) in different doses to the drinking water of broiler chickens reared under cyclic heat stress (CHS) on performance, carcass characteristics and some serum parameters. Methods: In the study, 300 one-day-old broiler chickens (Ross 308), after a 1-week acclimation period, were tested in two different (24 and 35◦C) ambient temperatures and three different HFV levels (0, 2 and 4 ml/L) according to the 2×3 factorial experimental design. Chicks were randomly distributed to 6 experimental groups with 5 replications, with 10 animals in each replication. The addition of organic HFV to the drinking water of broiler chickens subjected to CHS didn’t affect growth performance, carcass characteristics and visceral weight (P>0.05). Addition of HFV increased serum FFA level, decreased serum MDA, HDL and TAG levels (p<0.05) and did not affect other serum parameters (P>0.05) in CHS-treated groups. Result: As a result, it was concluded that the addition of HFV to the drinking water of broiler chickens exposed to cyclic heat stress did not have any negative effect on growth performance, carcass characteristics and visceral weights, but it could be beneficial in preventing lipid peroxidation.

The aim of this trial was to study the effects of consuming water with apple cider vinegar (ACV) and feed including mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) stalk (MS) on performance and certain egg characteristics. The hens were separated into four treatment groups (with 4 replicates and 6 hens per replicate). The experimental groups were control (not consumed ACV and MS), ACV (3 ml/l drinking water), MS (20 g/kg feed) and ACV+MS (combination). At the end of the experiment, among the performance criteria tested, body weight, feed intake, egg production and weight of eggs, and feed efficiency were not affected by the treatments (P>0.05). Treatments had no effect on physical external and internal egg characteristics. The amount of yolk malondialdehyde of the ACV and MS groups was lower than the control group (P<0.05) in stored eggs (28 d) (P<0.05).

Ozdemir, Memis; Topal, Mehmet; Aksakal, Vecihi
Progress in genetic selection in livestock can be increased by marker asisted selection. The identification of favorable genetic markers is one of the most important stages in marker-asisted selection. In this study, it was aimed to determine the effects of the bGH/AluI and Pit-1/HinfI polymorphisms on the production traits of organic reared cows. Genotyping was performed on total 245 Holstein cows, n=181 for Pit-1 gene and n=186 for bGH gene. Milk yields and some reproduction traits analyzed by analysis of variance using the general linear model procedure, and 703 production records from cows were used to. The results showed that neither the Pit-1/Hinf I nor bGH/Alu I polymorphisms affect the tested milk traits (p>0.05).

The objective of study was conducted on to compare immunoglobulin (Ig) concentrations in calves raised under organic and conventional conditions. 30 newborn Holstein Friesian calves (15 rose under organic and 15 under conventional conditions) in two dairy cattle farms. Blood samples were taken from 30 newborn calves at birth (before taking colostrum) and on 14th day to compare immunoglobulin (Ig) concentrations in calves raised under organic and conventional conditions. Furthermore, blood and colostrum samples were also taken from the mothers included into the study. IgG and IgM concentrations in colostrum and blood serums were determined using commercial ELISA kits. IgG concentrations at birth (0.79±0.34, 1.64±0.95 mg/mL) and on the 14th day (46.5±21.5, 70.5±27.8 mg/mL) in calves raised under organic conditions were lower than those raised under conventional conditions (p<0.01). Calves raised under organic conditions also had lower IgM concentrations than calves raised under conventional conditions at birth (0.23±0.03 and 0.28±0.11 mg/mL, respectively) and on the 14th day (2.76±0.56 and 4,30±1.03 mg/mL, respectively) (p<0.05, p<0.01). IgG concentrations in the blood serum of cows raised under conventional conditions were higher than those raised under organic conditions (p<0.01), while no difference was found with respect to IgM concentrations (p>0.05). No difference was found in the IgG and IgM concentrations of colostrum obtained from cows raised under organic and conventional conditions. In both the husbandry systems, positive and significant (p<0.01) correlations were found between the Ig concentrations of the mothers and offsprings. Consequently, it can be suggested that higher Ig concentrations in cattle raised under conventional conditions might be due to poorer environmental conditions.

Papillomatosis is widespread in cattle and is often observed on the skin of udders. For treatment, anthelmintic, immunomodulator and homeopathic drugs are administered. The objective of the study was to examine the therapeutic effect of levamisole and tarantula cubensis extract in the treatment of papilloma observed in the teats of cows. Sixteen Holstein cows between the age of 2-3 years were used as study material. The cows with Papillomatosis were randomly assigned into two equal groups. The animals in the first group (n=8) were treated with intramuscular double doses of levamisole (5 mg/kg) applied one week apart. The second group of animals (n=8) was treated with two subcutaneous doses of 10 ml of Tarantula cubensis extract one week apart. Four animals in the first group recovered while 8 animals in the second group recovered. The total serum oxidant levels of the animals treated with Tarantula cubensis extract and levamisole on the 15th day was found to be significantly lower than the serum levels of same animals on day 0 of the treatment (P<0.05). The results of this study revealed that tarantula cubensis extract applied in normal therapeutic doses was more effective in the treatment of teat papillomatosis than levamisole.
- MakaleYalnız künye2015Genetic characterization of the Akkaraman, Morkaraman and Karayaka sheep through microsatellite variation
Das, Huseyin; Turan, Ibrahim; Demir, Selim
Genotypes have to be controlled periodically and necessary precautions should be taken in order to ensure that animal biodiversity is not lost. In this study, the genotypes of the Akkaraman, Karayaka and Morkaraman species from among Turkey’s local sheep were examined at 7 different microsatellite loci. The average allele counts are close to each other and were determined as 8,905±0,483. Whereas the PIC values ranged from between 0,507-0,794 at an average of 0,705. The He and Ho values used to calculate genetic diversity were determined on average as 0,734±0,023 and 0,509±0,038 respectively. According to the Fisher-Exact test result, the populations are not in HWE (P<0.001). Whereas the FIS values that show inter- population genetic diversity were determined as 0,353±0,092 (KRY), 0,328±0,095 (MRK) and 0,237±0,059 (AKK) respectively. In addition, Population Assignment and Principal Coordinate Analysis graphs were formed. When the pairwise FST and Nm, NeiuD,SHUA and G Statistics values used to calculate the genetic similarities and differences are examined, it is observed that the closest relations in terms of genetics is among AKK-KRY followed respectively by AKK-MRK and KRY-MRK.
