Bingol, Zeynebe; Kiziltas, Hatice; Gören, Ahmet C.; Kose, Leyla Polat; Topal, Meryem; Durmaz, Lokman; Alwasel, Saleh H.; Gulcin, Ilhami
In order to evaluate the antioxidant activity of evaporated ethanolic extract (EESB) and lyophilized water extract (WESB) of Shaggy bindweed (Convulvulus betonicifolia Mill. Subs), some putative antioxidant methods such as DPPH. scavenging activity, ABTS(center dot)(-) scavenging effect, ferric ions (Fe3+) reduction method, cupric ions (Cu2+) reducing capacity, and ferrous ions (Fe2+) binding activities were separately performed. Also, ascorbic acid, alpha-tocopherol and BHT were used as the standard compounds. Additionally, some phenolic compounds that responsible for antioxidant abilities of EESB and WESB were screened by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). At the same concentration, EESB and WESB demonstrated effective antioxidant abilities when compared to standards. In addition, EESB demonstrated IC50 values of 1.946 mu g/mL against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), 0.815 mu g/mL against alpha-glycosidase and 0.675 mu g/mL against alpha-amylase enzymes.
- MakaleYalnız künye2020Silurian to Early Devonian arc magmatism in the western Sakarya Zone (NW Turkey), with inference to the closure of the Rheic Ocean
Karsli, Orhan; Sengün, Firat; Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Kandemir, Raif; Aydin, Faruk; Andersen, Tom
The Rheic Ocean is the most significant Paleozoic ocean that detached peri-Gondwana terranes from the northern Gondwana margin throughout the closure of the Iapetus Ocean. The suture of the Rheic Ocean spreads from Mexico to the Middle East, and the timing of its final closure is well-documented by the rocks formed in the Variscan-Alleghanian-Ouachita orogeny which led to the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea. However, as robust paleomagnetic and quantitative data are mostly lacking, the onset and evolution of the subduction of the Rheic Ocean are highly speculative, and they require further confirmation. Recently, the well-preserved metagranitoids along the western Sakarya Zone (SZ) in Anatolia have been identified, and they provide new data that improve our knowledge on the evolution of the Early Paleozoic Rheic Ocean along the northern Gondwana. Here, we present new geochronological, in situ zircon Hf isotope, and whole-rock geochemical analyses of these metagranitoids from the western SZ to enhance our understanding of the subduction processes of the Rheic Ocean. IA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating demonstrated that the Boziiyuk and Borcak metagranitoids from the western SZ were emplaced during the Silurian to Early Devonian (431 +/- 2.7 to 403 +/- 3.5 Ma). The both granitoids have medium- to high-K. calc-alkaline magmatic character, and exhibit peraluminous to slightly metaluminous geochemical signature. They show a typical arc pattern in terms of trace elements and have a uniform, moderate negative epsilon(Hf) (t) of -3.2 to -9.7, with Mesoproterozoic Hf depleted mantle model ages (T-DM1 = 12 to 1.4 Ga). The geochemical and isotopic characteristics are not consistent with those of depleted mantle melts and melts derived from the crustal rocks in an intracontinental environment. Instead, the parental magma is likely generated from the partial melting of a homogeneous and enriched mantle wedge source. We propose that the Silurian to Early Devonian arc-related magmatism is associated with a northward subduction episode of the Rheic Oceanic lithosphere beneath the peri-Gondwana terranes. Hence, we consider that the opening of Paleotethys Ocean formed in a back-arc basin of subduction in Andean style to the north rather than a continental rift to the south in response to south-directed and short-lived supra-subduction zone (SSZ)-type subduction during the Silurian to Early Devonian. Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most significant crops and the backbone of food security worldwide. However, low wheat production remains a substantial concern in global agricultural systems. It can be attributed to several factors, including adverse climatic conditions, plant disease and poor soil quality. Recent efforts have explored bioinoculant applications as a promising approach to enhance wheat yield, trying to mitigate constraints essential for future wheat production and global food security. This study tested talc powder, wheat biochar, sugarcane bagasse biochar, and farmyard manure as carriers with two endophytic bacterial strains, Burkholderia phytofirmans PsJN and Bacillus spp. MN54 was applied to three wheat varieties (Ujala-16, Zincol-16, and Fathejang-16). The data was recorded at the seedling and maturity growth stages of plants. A pot experiment revealed significant improvements in plant growth following bioinoculant application compared to controls. Notably, the combination of sugarcane bagasse biochar with Bacillus sp. MN54 exhibited the most pronounced effects, promoting internodal length, spike length, tiller number per plant, grain yield per plant, and spikelets per spike. Additionally, talc powder with Bacillus sp. MN54 increased peduncle length, tiller number per plant, and spike length in Fathejang-16. These findings offer valuable insights into optimizing bioinoculant formulations for improved agricultural practices, adapting to climate change, and contributing to ensuring global food security.

Stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide. It is known that atrial fibrillation and left atrial enlargement contribute ischemic stroke, and mean platelet volume (MPV) increases in patients with ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation. We aimed to determine whether higher MPV is associated with ischemic stroke in patients with sinus rhythm. We evaluated 74 patients in sinus rhythm and with ischemic stroke (Group 1) and 90 age-matched and sex-matched healthy individuals as control group (Group 2). After physical and echocardiographic examination, 24-48 h Holter monitoring and complete blood counts were studied. There were no statistically significant differences in age, sex rates, and comorbidities between groups. Left atrial diameter was higher in Group 1 than Group 2 (P=0.001), but both were in normal range. MPV was significantly higher in Group 1 (P<0.001) and was an independent determinant [odds ratio (OR): 1.840; P<0.001; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.330-2.545] of ischemic stroke with left atrial (OR: 1.138; P=0.006; 95% CI 1.037-1.248). In conclusion, higher MPV is associated with acute ischemic stroke in patients with sinus rhythm and without heart failure or left atrial enlargement. MPV and left atrial diameter are independent predictors of ischemic stroke in this patient population. Copyright (C) 2016 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026A combined Monte Carlo, analytical, and experimental study of true coincidence summing correction factors for 152Eu
Çelik, Necati; Ali, Ahmed H.; Apaydin, Gokhan; Çevik, Ugur; Açikel, Selami
The radionuclide 152Eu presents a significant challenge in gamma-ray spectrometry due to its complex decay scheme and significant true coincidence summing (TCS) effects, especially in close-measurement geometries. This study presents a comprehensive investigation into TCS correction factors for the principal gamma-ray lines of 152Eu using tripartite methodology: a custom Monte Carlo (MC) simulation based on the EGS4 system, an established analytical method, and direct experimental measurements. The MC simulation explicitly models the complete decay process, including branching ratios, gamma emissions, internal conversion, and subsequent X-ray emissions for both decay branches (beta-minus to 152Gd and EC to 152Sm). Experimentally, correction factors were derived using a well-characterized point source measured at multiple distances with a coaxial HPGe detector. The analytical, method based on probabilistic analysis of the decay scheme, served as an examination. Results demonstrate that the analytical method underestimated the TCS correction factors, particularly for low-energy lines such as 121.78 keV, where it predicted a mere 0.78 % correction compared to 25.5 and 23.5 % from MC and experiment, respectively. This discrepancy is attributed to the analytical method's neglect of gamma-X ray coincidences and the internal conversion effects. In contrast, the MC simulation showed remarkable agreement with experimental results across all energies, validating its capability to accurately model the full complexity of TCS effects. The study concludes that while analytical methods offer rapid estimates, MC simulations, especially when experimentally validated, are essential for achieving metrological accuracy in the gamma-ray spectrometric analysis of complex radionuclides like 152Eu.
- MakaleYalnız künye2013Petrogenesis and U-Pb zircon chronology of adakitic porphyries within the Kop ultramafic massif (Eastern Pontides Orogenic Belt, NE Turkey)
Eyuboglu, Yener; Dudas, Francis O.; Santosh, M.; Yi, Keewook; Kwon, Sanghoon; Akaryali, Enver
High-silica adakites intrude the Kop ultramafic massif in the eastern Pontide orogenic belt of NE Turkey. These dominantly dacitic to rhyodacitic plagioclase porphyries form clusters of small intrusions. U-Pb dating of zircons from two intrusions yields ages between 52 and 59 Ma. The best-constrained crystallization age is 55.83 +/- 0.04 Ma, indicating that these are the oldest adakitic rocks of the eastern Pontides. The rocks show geochemical signatures typical of adakites. The absence of systematic geochemical variation within the adakite suite indicates a subordinate role for fractional crystallization and binary mixing, and suggests that individual intrusions may represent separate, small batches of magma. Modeling of partial melting suggests that the degree of melting was 5-20%, that the residues after melting likely contained garnet, clinopyroxene, and rutile, and that plagioclase was either absent or totally consumed during partial melting. The most likely source compositions had large-ion lithophile elements >10 times, and heavy rare earth elements <10 times, chondritic concentrations. Modeled bulk distribution coefficients indicate that the adakites were generated as silicic magmas, and are not derived by fractional crystallization from basaltic or andesitic parental melts. Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopic data indicate at least three isotopically distinct sources, one of which is depleted mantle. The other components include upper crust (possibly a mixture of subducted sediment and Hercynian continental basement rocks) and a component that may include both lower crust and sublithospheric mantle. These adakites are unique among the late Cretaceous and Cenozoic igneous rocks of the eastern Pontides in having a large proportion of the depleted mantle component. The prominent role of the depleted mantle in their petrogenesis suggests that the adakites may be related to a slab window in a south-directed subduction zone. Background: Toxicity of calcium channel blockers leads to high patient mortality and there is no effective antidote. The benefit of using 20% lipid emulsion and sugammadex has been reported. The present study measured the effect of sugammadex and 20% lipid emulsion on hemodynamics and survival in a rat model of verapamil toxicity. Material/Methods: In this single-blinded randomized control study, rats were separated into 4 groups of 7 rats each: Sugammadex (S), Sugammadex plus 20% lipid emulsion (SL), 20% lipid emulsion (L), and control (C). Heart rates and mean arterial pressures were monitored and noted each minute until death. Results: Average time to death was 21.0 +/- 9.57 minutes for group C, 35.57 +/- 10.61 minutes for group S, 37.14 +/- 16.6 minutes for group L and 49.86 +/- 27.56 minutes for group SL. Time to death was significantly longer in other groups than in the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Verapamil overdose is has a comparatively high mortality rate and there is no effective antidote. Treatment generally involves gastric decontamination and symptomatic treatment to counteract the drug's negative effects. In animal studies sugammadex and lipid emulsion had a positive effect on survival in patients with calcium channel blocker toxicity. Sugammadex and intralipid increased survival in a rat model of verapamil toxicity. The combination of both drugs may decrease cardiotoxicity. Sugammadex alone or combined with 20% lipid emulsion reduce the need for inotropic agents. The mechanism requires clarification with larger studies.
- MakaleYalnız künye2012Combination of culture-dependent and culture-independent molecular methods for the determination of lactic microbiota in sucuk
Kesmen, Z.; Yetiman, A. E.; Gulluce, A.; Kacmaz, N.; Sagdic, O.; Cetin, B.; Adiguzel, A.; Sahin, F.; Yetim, H.
In this study, the culture-dependent and culture-independent molecular methods were used for the identification of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in sucuk a Turkish fermented dry sausage. On the one hand, the PCR-DGGE method targetting the V1 and V3 regions of 16S DNA was applied to DNA that was directly extracted from sucuk samples. On the other hand, rep-PCR fingerprinting was performed for the primary differentiation and grouping of the isolates, and the results were confirmed by sequencing of the 165 rDNA and 16S-23S rDNA intergenic spacer region. As a result of the PCR-DGGE analysis of all the samples, total 8 different lactic acid bacteria were identified, and Lactobacillus sakei, Lactobacillus curvatus and Weissella viridescens were the dominant microbiota among these bacteria. The culture-dependent approach indicated that the majority of the strains belonged to the Lactobacillus genera including Lb. sakei, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lb. curvatus, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactobacillus farciminis and Lactobacillus alimentarius. However, Leuconostoc and Weisella were also detected as minor genera. Again, Lactococcus piscium, Weissella halotolerans, Staphylococcus succinus and the comigrated Staphylococcus piscifermentans/Staphylococcus condimenti/Staphylococcus camosus group were detected only with the culture-independent method while Lb. plantarum, Leuconostoc mesenteroides and Leuconostoc citreum were identified only by using the culture-dependent method. In the results, it was concluded that the combination of culture-dependent and culture-independent methods was necessary for reliable and detailed investigation of LAB communities in fermented food products. The devastating 6 February 2023 Kahramanmara & scedil;earthquake sequence in southeastern T & uuml;rkiye started with a moment magnitude (Mw) 7.8 earthquake, for which the initial rupture broke the Sak4ag & ouml;z segment near Nurda & gbreve;& imath; and then jumped into a bilateral rupture along multiple segments of the Eastern Anatolian fault zone (EAFZ). This complicated rupture was followed nine hours later by an Mw 7.6 event near Ekin & ouml;z & uuml;. To better understand the spatiotemporal evolution of aftershocks, site amplification, and the structural and tectonic framework of the EAFZ in this diffuse triple junction, we deployed a dense seismometer array covering both aftershock zones for nearly four months. The main Eastern Anatolian Seismic Temporary (EAST) array includes 125 nodal, 10 broadband, and 6 strong-motion seismic stations distributed around the rupture zone. An additional linear array of 73 nodal stations was also installed across the Pazarc & imath;k segment of the EAFZ and the Sak4ag & ouml;z segment near the Mw 7.8 epicenter to record fault-zone waves for similar to 30 days. This article shows example recordings and the EAST array geometry, preliminary research results, and the metadata related to all of the stations in this array. A deep-learning-based phase picking for one month of continuous recording yielded millions of seismic phase readings and tens of thousands of aftershock locations after phase associations. We also give examples of both local and teleseismic waveforms recorded by the nodal arrays, which can be used for subsequent high-resolution earthquake relocation, imaging of crustal structures, and fault-zone imaging.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Tomography of the source zone of the February 6, 2023, Kahramanmaras, Earthquake Doublets of Southern Anatolia
Salah, Mohamed K.; Alkan, Hamdi; Öztürk, Serkan; Güney, Recep
On February 6, 2023, two destructive earthquakes and many posterior aftershocks hit the Kahramanmaras, area in southern Anatolia. The Kahramanmaras, earthquake sequence (KMES) caused extensive damage and economic losses in T & uuml;rkiye and Syria. In this study, the 3-D crustal seismic velocities surrounding the hypocentral region of the KMES are determined using a large dataset of body wave arrival times obtained from local earthquakes. To better constrain the physical properties and seismogenic behavior of the KMES source region, the Vp/Vs ratio is calculated and correlated with Poisson's ratio using the obtained velocity models. To gain a better understanding of the stress conditions and regional earthquake activity in the study area, the depth variation of the b-value is also examined. The velocity structure is generally heterogeneous with both low and high velocities at upper crustal depths. Along the East Anatolian Fault Zone and its environs, low-velocity anomalies are charted. Also, small b-values (<1.0) are estimated in the region encompassing the KMES, especially at upper crustal depths. The KMES source zone is characterized by low b-value, low to average Vp, low Vs, and average/high Vp/Vs ratios. Hit count rates and the resolution test show that the mapped velocity anomalies are robust down to a depth of 45 km. Therefore, the moderate/high Vp/Vs and small b-values at the upper and middle crustal depths along the EAFZ may give constraints on the next earthquake hazards of the study region. The present findings provide deeper insight into the physical properties and the seismogenic potential of the crustal zones in proximity to the active fault segments of the Anatolian Plateau and the northwestern part of Arabia.

Lian, Yi; Verma, Tushar; Chen, Long; Sun, Shengqian; Ozturk, Samet; Subbiah, Jeyamkondan; Liu, Shuxiang; Wei, Xinyao
Spices and herbs are vital flavoring agents in food. However, they are particularly vulnerable to microbial contamination primarily due to their open production environments and low water activity, which enhances microbial resistance to conventional pasteurization. In addition, traditional decontamination methods often struggle to balance microbial safety and product quality. This review aims to deliver valuable insights into innovative technologies designed for improving microbial safety and overall quality of spices and herbs while fostering advancements in the industry. This review comprehensively summarizes the principles, applications, and influencing factors of emerging thermal technologies (e.g., radio frequency heating, superheated steam, and vacuum steam) and non-thermal technologies (e.g., ethylene oxide, chlorine dioxide, cold plasma, and ionizing irradiation). Furthermore, it critically discusses the current limitations of these technologies and proposes strategies for future advancements. Novel decontamination technologies show promise in improving microbial safety and preserving the quality of spice and herb products. In particular, radio frequency and chlorine dioxide technologies emerge as promising options for spice decontamination due to their better ability to balance microbial control efficiency and quality retention. Further research should focus on optimizing parameters through models, developing combination technologies, and promoting pilot test verification to facilitate industrial application.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2026Influencer Authenticity in Marketing: A Systematic Literature Review and Future Research Agenda
Celik, Fatih; Ibrahim, Blend; Polat, Eray; Moulard, Julie; Akbulut, Metin
As influencer marketing scales into a mainstream advertising channel, authenticity has become its defining currency, yet consumers and brands struggle to understand what makes a social media influencer (SMI) genuinely credible and why strategic authenticity backfires. Despite growing scholarly interest, research remains fragmented, leaving practitioners without a unified framework to guide their decisions. Through a systematic literature review (SLR) of 138 peer-reviewed articles (2011-2024), using topic modeling and thematic analysis, we identify the authenticity paradox, the inherent conflict that arises when SMIs attempt to commercialize their genuine self-presentation. This tension also explains why recent evidence reports no overall engagement benefit from perceived authenticity. Seven latent topics are synthesized into four integrated axes: (1) ontological tensions at the technological interface, (2) the commercial transparency and trust paradox, (3) ethical negotiation in identity construction, and (4) strategic consumer responses. Our findings reveal how consumers continuously navigate between SMIs' curated performances and perceived genuineness, with self-determination theory, attribution theory, and parasocial interaction theory dominating current explanations, predominantly within USA-based contexts. Beyond mapping the field, we specify three conceptual patterns, namely authenticity as attributed intent, transparency as coherence rather than concealment, and authenticity as a structurally constrained accomplishment. We then translate the gaps they expose into a structured research agenda, offering actionable insights for brands, managers, and platform designers on authenticity management, influencer selection, partnership governance, and performance evaluation.

These series compounds have been identified as potential inhibitors with a KI values in the range of 10.69 +/- 1.27-70.87 +/- 8.11 nM for hCA I, 20.01 +/- 3.48-56.63 +/- 6.41 nM for hCA II, 6.60 +/- 0.62-14.15 +/- 1.09 nM for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and 54.87 +/- 7.76-137.20 +/- 9.61 nM for butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). These compounds have a more effective inhibition effect when compared to the reference compounds. In addition, the potential binding positions of the compounds with high affinity for ChE and hCAs were demonstrated by in silico methods. The results of in silico and in vitro studies support each other. As a result of the present study, the compounds with high inhibitory activity for metabolic enzymes, such as ChE and hCA were designed. The compounds may be potential alternative agents used as selective ChE and hCA inhibitors in the treatment of Alzheimer ' s disease and glaucoma. image
- MakaleYalnız künye2013Physicochemical characteristics of a novel activated carbon produced from tea industry waste
Gundogdu, Ali; Duran, Celal; Senturk, H. Basri; Soylak, Mustafa; Imamoglu, Mustafa; Onal, Yunus
Tonnes of waste are generated during tea production in Turkey, one of the black tea producing countries in the world. These wastes are not used for any purposes throughout industrial sector. The objective of this study is to bring in economic value to waste materials by producing activated carbons from wastes of a tea plant and to characterize their physicochemical properties. Three types of activated carbons were produced by chemical activation using zinc chloride from tea industry wastes (TIW). Mesoporous structure and surface area rise as the ratio of ZnCl2/TIW increases. When the ratios of ZnCl2/TIW were selected as 1/2:1, 1:1, and 2:1, mesoporous activated carbons are found in the percentages of 10.9%, 39.9% and 77.7% with BET surface areas of 706, 1066 and 1141 m(2) g(-1), respectively. The resultant activated carbons were characterized by analyses of proximate-ultimate, FT-IR, SEM, TGA, methylene blue-iodine numbers, and surface functional groups. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Coastline changes are increasing rapidly due to both natural and human effects. The expansion of touristic, industrial and culture fishing establishments through coastal areas has brought about uncontrolled and unplanned urbanization. In this study, the coastline in Karasu district of Turkey has been extracted by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) images. For this purpose; 7 cm ground sample distance (GSD) UAV images taken in 2013 by Gatewing-X100 by 40% side and 70% forward overlap was used as post images. Produced ortho images were used as the base map for extraction of the coastline. An object-oriented approach has been applied to capture the shoreline from these ortho images. In the presented study, the eCognition object-oriented fuzzy image processing software has been used. This commercial software has the ability to develop custom tools for image classification in addition to its standard object feature tools. Customized arithmetic features have been used to achieve more accurate shoreline segmentation results. Three main object classes have been created as sea, shoreline buffer and land to extract shoreline. The segmentation results were converted into dxf vector data format. The results were compared with manual digitizing of 55 blind readers. An algorithm has been developed by using Matlab to analyze the differences between object-oriented classification and manual digitizing results. Results were evaluated according to students' gender, age, spent time, used software and courses taken. The root mean square error (RMSE) was calculated as 7.15 m.

Background/Objectives: Radiotherapy (RT) induces oxidative stress and structural damage in solid tissues, including the liver. This study aimed to investigate the histological and immunohistochemical effects of dexmedetomidine (DEX) and amifostine on their potential protective and regenerative properties against liver injury induced by radiation therapy. Methods: This study consisted of five randomized groups: control, RT, RT-D100, RT-D200, and RT-A (Amifostine). A total of 100 mu g/kg DEX, 200 mu g/kg DEX, and 200 mu g/kg amifostine were administered before radiotherapy as per the experimental design. After RT, liver specimens were analyzed for histological alterations, including periportal and perisinusoidal fibrosis, vacuolization, and pyknotic nuclei. Furthermore, immunohistochemistry investigations were conducted to evaluate apoptosis, mitosis, oxidative stress, and neural regeneration in non-neuronal liver tissue following radiotherapy and subsequent treatment. Results: The control group's liver tissue exhibited standard histological architecture, whereas the RT group displayed severe cellular degeneration, periportal and perisinusoidal fibrosis, cytoplasmic vacuolization, and an increase in pyknotic nuclei. The apoptotic index was markedly reduced in the RT-D100 and RT-D200 groups relative to the RT group. Furthermore, caspase-3 immunoactivity was negligible in the control group, while a significant increase was observed in the RT group. The administration of amifostine significantly increased GAP-43 levels. Conclusions: DEX mitigates RT-induced hepatic injury chiefly through antioxidant and anti-apoptotic pathways, whereas amifostine promotes hepatic regeneration by modulating GAP-43.

Background and Objectives: Post-menopausal estrogen decline is considered a contributing factor to sarcopenia, and inspiratory muscle training (IMT) may provide benefits in this demographic. This study examined the impact of a four-week IMT program on diaphragm thickness, abdominal wall muscle thickness (AWMT; transversus abdominis, internal oblique, and external oblique), and liver fat percentage in healthy elderly women. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six women aged 60-80 years were randomly assigned to an IMT group (n = 13) or a control group (n = 13). The IMT group used the PowerBreathe (R) Classic device at 40% of maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), with weekly increments of 10%. Training was performed twice daily, five days per week, with 30 breathing cycles per session (60 per day). The control group maintained their usual routines. AWMT, diaphragm thickness (DT), and fatty liver density (FLD) were measured by a radiologist before and after the intervention. Results: After four weeks, the IMT group showed significant improvements in all parameters compared to controls. Mid-diaphragm thickness (MDT) increased by 11.44% (effect size (ES) = 0.358, p < 0.001) versus 0.76% in controls (p = 0.271). Posterior diaphragm thickness (PDT) improved by 7.48% (ES = 0.282, p < 0.001) versus 0.38% (p = 0.564). Right AWMT increased by 12.7% (ES = 0.492, p < 0.001) compared to 0.10% (p = 0.872), and left AWMT increased by 9.93% (ES = 0.395, p < 0.001) versus 2.64% (p = 0.014). FLD improved by 11.79% (ES = 0.959, p < 0.001) in the IMT group, while the control group showed no meaningful change (-0.13%, p = 0.847). Conclusions: A short-term IMT protocol significantly enhanced diaphragm and AWMT and reduced liver fat in elderly women. These findings support the use of IMT as a simple, non-invasive intervention to preserve musculoskeletal and metabolic health in aging populations.

Background: Aerobic capacity and respiratory efficiency are critical determinants of performance in elite female football, characterized by repeated high-intensity efforts and rapid recovery demands. Halotherapy, involving the inhalation of dry salt aerosol, has been shown to improve pulmonary health; however, its effects on exercise-related outcomes in athletic populations remain insufficiently investigated. This study aimed to examine the effects of a 12-week post-training halotherapy intervention on respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, and aerobic performance in elite female football players. Methods: Twenty-eight elite female football players competing in the Turkish Women's First League were randomly assigned to a halotherapy group (HG, n = 14) or a control group (CG, n = 14). Both groups completed an identical preseason training program, while the HG additionally performed 45 min halotherapy sessions three times per week in a controlled halochamber. Pre-and post-intervention assessments included maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP, MEP), spirometric parameters (FVC, FEV1, PEF, MVV), and maximal oxygen uptake (VO(2)max) estimated using the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 (Yo-Yo IRT1), along with total distance covered. A 2 & times; 2 mixed-model ANOVA was used to assess time and group & times; time interaction effects. Results: Significant group & times; time interactions were observed for MIP, MEP, VO(2)max, FEV1, PEF, MVV, and Yo-Yo IRT1 performance (p < 0.05), with large effect sizes (eta p(2) = 0.269-0.924), favoring the halotherapy group. Forced vital capacity (FVC) increased over time in both groups (p = 0.141), with no significant interaction effect. Changes in the control group were comparatively smaller across most outcomes. Conclusion: Post-training halotherapy was associated with improvements in respiratory muscle strength, ventilatory function, aerobic capacity, and intermittent running performance in elite female football players. These findings suggest that halotherapy may be considered as a complementary, non-invasive strategy to support respiratory and aerobic adaptations. Further research is required to confirm these findings and to clarify the underlying physiological mechanisms. Trial registration: NCT07406386; 6 February 2026.

Ethanolic (EEC) and aqueous (WEC) extracts of cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) were evaluated for their antioxidant profiles by eight distinguished bioanalytical antioxidant methods. Their inhibitory effects were tested against some enzymes including acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholinesterase, alpha-glycosidase and alpha-amylase, which linked to different diseases. Additionally, the antioxidant properties were determined and polyphenolic compositions of the both extracts were evaluated by LC-MS/MS analysis. According to the LC-MS/MS experiments, thirteen compounds were found in WEC and EEC. Also, p-hydroxybenzoic acid (321.1 mg/kg extract), p-coumaric acid (291.4 mg/kg extract), and pyrogallol (142.4 mg/kg extract) were found to be the most abundant ingredients in the WEC. On the other hand, pyrogallol (264.3 mg/kg extract), ferulic acid (224.7 mg/kg extract) and p-coumaric acid (170.2 mg/kg extract) were found as the most plentiful chemicals in the EEC. For the estimation of the antioxidant capacities of the both extracts (WEC and EEC), DPPH center dot and ABTS(center dot+) scavenging activities, as well as Fe3+-Fe2+, and Cu2+-Cu+ reducing assays were studied. The IC50 values of the WEC and EEC indicated that they were potent effective DPPH center dot (21. 25 and 15.71 mu g/mL) and ABTS(center dot+) (6.52 and 5.79 mu g/mL) scavengers, as well as AChE (221.33 and 110.26 mu g/mL), BChE (461.69 and 94.93 mu g/mL), alpha-glycosidase (206.86 and 220.00 mu g/mL) and alpha-amylase (189.86 and 200.86 mu g/mL) inhibitors. As a conclusion, both EEC and WEC had rich phenolic contents and demonstrated effective anticholinergic, antidiabetic and antioxidant effects.
