Sipahi, Ferkan; Saydam Eker, Çiğdem; Akpınar, İbrahim; Gücer, Mehmet Ali; Vural, Alaaddin; Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Aydurmuş, Tanju
The metallogenic belt containing numerous skarn mineralized systems starting from Eastern Europe continues through Turkey and Iran. The study area in the Eastern Pontides is within this metallogenic belt. The 44.39 ± 0.53 Ma Karadağ Intrusion sourced skarn mineralization is located along the granitoid-to-limestone contact. The Karadağ Intrusion is an arc-like pluton with medium–high K calc-alkaline and peraluminous–metaluminous affinity. The Karadağ Fe–Cu skarn mineralization (Gümüşhane, Turkey), an exoskarn, is hosted by Late Cretaceous limestone and consists of early garnet, clinopyroxene, and orthoclase with late epidote and chlorite. Primary ore minerals are magnetite and haematite, accompanied by minor amounts of chalcopyrite and pyrite. Pyroxene comprises mostly diopside and less hedenbergitic diopside and johannsenite. Wollastonite is very rare. Garnet is andradite and grossular–andradite. Thus, all these results imply that the Karadağ Fe–Cu skarn mineralization formed under relatively oxidized and Fe-rich conditions. The homogenization temperatures of the fluid inclusions vary from 189°C to 405°C for quartz and 186°C to 430°C for calcite. The salinity contents in the fluid inclusions are within 0.2–9 wt% NaCl equivalent for quartz and 0.4–14.8 wt% NaCl equivalent for calcite. First melting temperatures between −36.5 and −47.4°C were attained with the presence of NaCl–FeCl2± CaCl2 in the initial phase of fluid inclusions. The first melting in the later stage of fluid inclusions is between −3.8 and −17.2°C, thereby, supporting the existence of NaHCO3-Na2CO3-KCl-type salt composition. The δ18O values of minerals are 1.7–10.3‰ for garnet, 11.1–14.6‰ for quartz, 6.4 to 6.8‰ for epidote, and 2.8–3.8‰ for magnetite in the Karadağ skarn mineralization. The δ18O value of epidote indicates magmatic fluid, whereas those of garnet, magnetite, and quartz suggest magmatic fluids together with less meteoric effect. The δ18O values in limestone (18.7 to 22.3‰), marble (8.7‰), and calcite (10.5 to 12.2‰) were depleted relative to typical δ18O contents of marine carbonates (20 to 30‰). Moreover, the C isotope values of calcite (−5.4 to −1.4‰), marble (−2.1‰), and limestone (1.0 to 1.2‰) reflect those of metamorphic rocks and skarns (−4.0 to 3‰ and −18 to 2‰). Mineral paragenesis, fluid inclusion, and stable isotopic signatures are consistent with ore mineralization caused by the interaction of magmatic fluids with carbonate host rocks. Karadağ Fe-Cu skarn mineralization, associated with Karadağ postcollisional magmatism, is an example of skarn mineralized system in the Eastern Pontides.

Fidan, Muhammed Said; Yasar, Sekip Sadiye; Komut, Osman; Yasar, Mehmet
The aim of this study is to help to create a healthier environment by measuring the noise levels in the furniture and lumber sectors of forest products industry. In this study, noise measurement for approximately 3 min has been conducted in 4 measurement spots in the side of the machinery, in the factory entrance and in full and empty state for each machinery; from 3 different chosen spots in enterprises producing lumber. Measurements have been recorded as 720, from each machine as 36 measurements, with the condition to be recorded every 5 sec for 3 min. For this purpose, noise measurements have been carried out in 17 workplaces producing lumber and results have been compared statistically. As a result of the obtained findings, it is understood that the noise levels of thickness machinery don't exceed the value for the upper limit stated in the regulations. However, vertical wood band sawmill and band saw machines have been observed to go over this limit. Besides, some factors of planning and multi slitting machine don't exceed this limit, some of them exceed. As a result, it has been conducted that when noise levels of machinery used in the lumber industry enterprises exceed the upper limit stated in the regulations, they can pose a serious threat to human health.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ1Analysis of ionospheric TEC anomalies for global earthquakes during 2000-2019 with respect to earthquake magnitude (Mw≥6.0)
Ulukavak, Mustafa; Yalçınkaya, Mualla; Kayıkçı, Emine Tanır; Öztürk, Serkan; Kandemir, Raif; Karslı, Hakan
In this work, a relationship between ionospheric TEC anomalies and different earthquake magnitude groups before the main shocks was investigated. For this purpose, 2942 global earthquakes with Mw≥6 from 2000 to 2019 and possible ionospheric TEC anomalies that occurred before earthquakes were examined by considering 13 different index values of space weather conditions (geomagnetic storm indices and solar activity indices). Anomalies of ionospheric TEC changes were defined for 15-days before and 4-days after the earthquakes by using 15-days moving median method with the length of 15 days. Earthquakes were first grouped according to their magnitudes, and then negative and positive TEC anomalies in quiet days before the earthquakes were detected. These anomalies were observed as ∼5–13, ∼5-10, ∼5-15, ∼3-13, ∼7-15, ∼1 and ∼5-8 days ago for the earthquakes of 6.0 ≤ Mw<6.5, 6.5 ≤ Mw<7.0, 7.0 ≤ Mw<7.5, 7.5 ≤ Mw<8.0, 8.0 ≤ Mw<8.5, 8.5 ≤ Mw<9.0, and 9.0 ≤ Mw<9.5, respectively. Mean of changes in TEC anomalies of these groups is 44.2 % TECU and we detected that the number of positive anomalies in each group is larger than the number of negative anomalies. Consequently, these analyses clearly show that the day-to-day changes in TEC anomalies may supply significant precursors prior to the global earthquakes (M ≥ 6) in the short-term earthquake prediction for main shocks.

Melek, Mesut; Manshouri, Negin; Kayikcioglu, Temel
In the brain-computer interface system (BCI), electroencephalography (EEG) signals are converted into digital signals and analyzed, allowing direct communication between humans and the electronic devices around them. The convenience of the user and the speed of communication with the surrounding devices are the most important challenges of BCI systems. The Emotiv Epoc headset minimizes the discomfort of the user thanks to its wet electrodes and easy handling. In the continuation of our previous works, in this paper, we developed our BCI system based on the gaze at the rotating vanes using the inexpensive Emotiv Epoc headset. In addition to user comfort, our design has an acceptable mean accuracy rate (ACC) and mean information transfer rate (ITR) compared to similar systems.

Demirağ, Hatice; Hintistan, Sevilay; Bulut, Enes
Background/aim: Needle phobia occurs in more than half of diabetic patients due to the pain caused by frequent insulin injections. Therefore, this study evaluated the effect of topically administered lavender aromatherapy on the pain of insulin injections in diabetic patients. Materials and methods: In this double-blind randomized controlled and experimental study, patients who met the study criteria were divided into three groups; topical lavender oil (n = 60), placebo (n = 60), and control (n = 60) groups. The data were collected using the “Patient Information Form”, the “Follow-up Form”, the “Verbal Category Scale (VCS)”, and the “Visual Analogue Scale (VAS)”. Results: The results revealed no significant difference between the patients in the topical lavender oil group before and during the insulin injection in terms of VAS and VCS pain scores (p > 0.05). In the placebo and control groups, the mean VAS and VCS pain scores during insulin injection were found to be significantly higher than before insulin injection (p < 0.05). Besides, the mean VAS and VCS scores during insulin injection were significantly higher in the placebo and control groups than the topical lavender oil group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The study showed that patients who were administered topical lavender oil felt less pain after insulin injection than those in the placebo and control groups. Therefore, topically applied lavender aromatherapy can be easily used for pain control in insulin-dependent diabetic patients (clinical trial number NCT04767737).

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ1One-year performance evaluation of two newly developed back-contact solar modules in two different climates
Ozden, Talat; Carr, Anna J.; Geerligs, Bart (L.J.); Turan, Rasit; Akinoglu, Bulent G.
To a certain extent, the photovoltaics industry is well developed, and the performance and expected yield of standard photovoltaic modules are well documented and researched. However, newer more efficient photovoltaic cell and module technologies are being developed all over the world. Outdoor testing of new photovoltaic technologies is very important to understand and validate their reliability and performance under different environmental conditions. For the first time, one year of monitored performance data is presented and analyzed for two high efficiencies interdigitated back contact prototype mini-modules at different locations, having different climates. The test results of a commercial heterojunction with intrinsic thin-layer” module are also presented for comparison. The results showed that the two mini-modules remained stable for the duration of the test period, and showed no signs of degradation. They did perform significantly differently due to the different climatic conditions. The results also show that the combination of ambient temperature difference together with relative humidity impacts the performance of the modules. Calculated outdoor yearly efficiencies are 19.05% and 18.36% for two integrated back contact mini-modules tested in Petten-Netherland and Ankara-Turkey, respectively. The temperature coefficients of the modules are also calculated and compared with two commercial photovoltaic modules.

Reis, Hatice Catal
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is fatal and spreading rapidly. Early detection and diagnosis of the COVID-19 infection will prevent rapid spread. This study aims to automatically detect COVID-19 through a chest computed tomography (CT) dataset. The standard models for automatic COVID-19 detection using raw chest CT images are presented. This study uses convolutional neural network (CNN), Zeiler and Fergus network (ZFNet), and dense convolutional network-121 (DenseNet121) architectures of deep convolutional neural network models. The proposed models are presented to provide accurate diagnosis for binary classification. The datasets were obtained from a public database. This retrospective study included 757 chest CT images (360 confirmed COVID-19 and 397 non-COVID-19 chest CT images). The algorithms were coded using the Python programming language. The performance metrics used were accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and ROC-AUC. Comparative analyses are presented between the three models by considering hyper-parameter factors to find the best model. We obtained the best performance, with an accuracy of 94,7%, a recall of 90%, a precision of 100%, and an F1-score of 94,7% from the CNN model. As a result, the CNN algorithm is more accurate and precise than the ZFNet and DenseNet121 models. This study can present a second point of view to medical staff.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ23D digital representation of cadastral data in Turkey-Apartments case
Döner, Fatih; Şirin, Samet
With the widespread use of three-dimensional (3D) geographic information technologies, studies for 3D digital representation of property units in cadasters have increased in recent years. In Turkey, a project named 3D City Models and Cadasters was initiated by the General Directorate of Land Registries and Cadasters in 2018. With this project, which is planned to last four years, it aims to create 3D models of individual units (apartments) in buildings and provide visual representations of these individual units with legal information. Transition from the current 2D representation towards a 3D digital cadaster requires not only replacing analog drawings with 3D models but also examining the workflow for forming the property units. In this study, the process of registration of property rights for individual units is examined and possibilities and challenges for successful completion of the 3D cadaster project are evaluated from a legal, an organizational, and a technical point of view. Government plays a lead role by adopting the digital transformation as a state policy. However, new regulations and organizational settings may have to be introduced. Modeling and visualization alternatives for 3D data should be studied further.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2020Scopus SJRQ1How cultural tightness relates to creativity in work teams: Exploring the moderating and mediating mechanisms
Gedik, Yeliz; Ozbek, Mehmet Ferhat
In the present study, we examined the team-level association between cultural tightness, justice and creativity under varying levels of collectivism. Utilizing data from a field sample of 532 employees distributed across 147 work teams in 13 organizations, we demonstrated that cultural tightness was negatively related to team creativity for teams with lower levels of collectivism, but we did not observe such clear effects in teams with higher levels of collectivism. Finally, our results indicated that team justice climate (i.e., the average justice perception within the team) mediated the relationship between cultural tightness and team creativity in teams with lower levels of collectivism. Our findings accentuate the importance of understanding how norm-based (i.e., cultural tightness) and value-based (i.e., team collectivism) cultural dimensions jointly impact upon team creativity and suggest that managers should consider the optimal configuration of cultural dimensions if creativity is vital to their work team's functioning.

- MakaleYalnız künye2007Scopus SJRQ1The magnetic susceptibility of granitic rocks as a proxy for geochemical composition: Example from the Saruhan granitoids, NE Turkey
Aydin, Ali; Ferré, Eric C.; Aslan, Zafer
The magnetic susceptibility of rocks is determined by their bulk chemistry and magnetic mineralogy. In this case study of the Saruhan pluton in Turkey, a detailed survey based on 925 field measurements and 37 whole rock analyses, reveals a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility and FeOt (R2 = 0.8). Petrographic observations and calculations based on whole-rock major element analyses indicate the presence of magnetite grains. Further calculations show that magnetite accounts for 88% of the magnetic susceptibility. The spatial correlation between FeOtotal and the magnetic susceptibility is particularly spectacular which suggests that Km is a proxy for geochemical differentiation. The zoning pattern of magnetic susceptibility across the pluton is concentric and reverse, with the highest values of magnetic susceptibility in the center. This type of zoning is consistent with a previously proposed petrogenetic model. The comparison of the Saruhan granites with a classic example of paramagnetic granites reveals two contrasted FeOt-Km trends. This suggests that these variations can be a useful tool to distinguish between leucocratic paramagnetic and leucocratic ferrimagnetic granites.

- MakaleYalnız künye2008Scopus SJRQ1Dynamic analysis and seismic performance evaluation of above-ground liquid-containing tanks
Sezen, Halil; Livaoglu, Ramazan; Dogangun, Adem
A large number of industrial facilities were damaged during the 1999 Mw 7.4 Kocaeli, Turkey earthquake. One of those industrial facilities, Habas plant located within 10 km of the fault trace, provides liquefied gases to commercial plants and medical facilities. Two of the three tanks at the Habas facility collapsed during the earthquake. The main objectives of this paper were to evaluate the seismic performance of tanks and investigate the parameters influencing the dynamic behaviour. Simplified and finite element dynamic analyses of the tanks are carried out including the effect of liquefied gas-structure interaction using a ground motion recorded at a nearby site. The vulnerabilities of the structural system, the observed performance, and damage pattern are discussed by comparing the dynamic analysis results with the strength and deformation capacity of the support columns. The dynamic analysis results from a simplified three-mass model and a finite element model confirmed that the axial and lateral strength of the columns supporting the two nearly full tanks were not sufficient to resist the demand imposed during the earthquake. Consistent with the observed structural performance, an elastic response is predicted for the columns supporting the undamaged 25% full identical tank.

- MakaleYalnız künye2007Scopus SJRQ1Effect of foundation embedment on seismic behavior of elevated tanks considering fluid-structure-soil interaction
Livaoglu, R.; Dogangun, A.
This paper investigates the effects of foundation embedment on the seismic behavior of fluid-elevated tank-foundation-soil system with a structural frame supporting the fluid containing tank. Six different soil types defined in the well-known seismic codes were considered. Both the sloshing effects of the fluid and soil-structure interaction of the elevated tanks located on these six different soils were included in the analyses. Fluid-elevated tank-foundation-soil systems were modeled with the finite element (FE) technique. The fluid-structure interaction was taken into account using Lagrangian fluid FE approximation implemented in the general purpose structural analysis computer program, ANSYS. FE model with viscous boundary was used to include elevated tank-foundation-soil interaction effects. The models were analyzed for the foundations with and without embedment. It was found that the tank roof displacements were affected significantly by the embedment in soft soil, however, this effect was smaller for stiff soil types. Except for soft soil types, embedment did not affect the other response parameters, such as sloshing displacement, of the systems considered in this study.

Çimen, Müberra; Düzgün, Azer Özad
The aim of this study was to identify antimicrobial resistance and virulence factor genes exhibited by multidrug resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii, to analyze biofilm formation and to investigate clonal subtypes of isolate. Whole genome sequencing was done by Illumina NovaSeq 6,000 platform and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was performed by Oxford and Pasteur typing schemes. Influence of imipenem and levofloxacin on biofilm formation was investigated in 96-well plates at 3 replicates. The strain was found to carry OXA-23, OXA-51-like, AmpC and TEM-1 beta-lactamases. The sequence of the blaOXA-51-like gene has been identified as a blaOXA-66. According to Pasteur MLST scheme the strain displayed ST2 allelic profile. However, based on Oxford MLST scheme this strain represents the new ST2121, as the gdhB gene has a single allelic mutation namely, the gdhB-227. It was determined that MDR isolate carried bap, basABCDFGHIJ, csuA/BABCDE, bauABCDEF, plcD, pgaABCD, entE, barAB, ompA, abaIR, piT2EAFTE/AUBl, fimADT, cvaC, bfmR, bfmS virulence genes. In our study imipenem induced the highest biofilm formation at a concentration of 32 mg/ml and levofloxacin at a concentration of 16 mg/ml. In conclusion, we detected a new MDR A. baumannii ST2121 clone harboring blaOXA-66 gene that has been reported for the first time in Turkey.

A capacitive motion sensor that can detect human walking and motions up to a certain distance was designed using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as the primary sensor material. A read-out circuit was designed to detect capacitive coupling with the sensor material caused by the motion in the surrounding. The read-out circuit consists of sensing, filtering, and amplifying stages. A high-pass filter was used to avoid DC components, and to eliminate adverse impacts of 50Hz noise in the sensing signal, a sixth-order low-pass filter consisting of active Sallen–Key and passive RC filters was utilized. The signals obtained from the complete read-out circuit revealed that the sensor system could accurately detect human movements up to 2 m away. Also, different signal patterns were obtained from the output of the sensor system for various human motions.

In this study, traditional sausage samples from different provinces of Turkey (Gaziantep, Antalya, erzurum and Kahramanmaras) were obtained and one hundred three isolates were collected. Using the (GTG)5-PCR genomic fingerprint analysis method, seven of them were observed to be different and conventional tests of these isolates were performed. Molecular identification of two isolates carrying the bacteriocin gene and having antimicrobial activity by agar disc diffusion method was performed by 16S rRNA sequence analysis. As a result, the seven isolates were identified as Aerococcus urinaeequi (EK1), Streptococcus salivarius (EK2), Leuconostoc mesenteroides (EK3), Macrococcus caseolyticus (EK4), Lactococcus garvieae (EK5), Staphylococcus saprophyticus (EK6) and Lactobacillus sakei (EK7). Among these strains, it has been determined that Ln. mesenteroides and L. sakei carried the mecentericin and sacacin genes. When antimicrobial activity against different strains was examined, inhibition formations of Ln. mesenteroides and L. sakei on Enterococcus faecalis, Shigella dysenteriae and Escherichia coli O157: H7 were observed.
