Yalcin, Fusun; Ilbeyli, Nurdane; Demirbilek, Mehmet; Yalcin, Mustafa Gurhan; Gunes, Alper; Kaygusuz, Abdullah; Ozmen, Suleyman Fatih
The study aimed to determine the natural radioactivity levels of226Ra,232Th, and40K by the Gamma-Ray spectrometry method, and radiological hazard parameters of the plutonic rocks in the Western and Central Sakarya Zone and to analyze the data using multivariate statistical methods. The average radiological values of samples were determined as40K (1295.3 Bq kg−1) >232Th (132.1 Bq kg−1) >226Ra (119.7 Bq kg−1). According to the skewness values of the distributions of the examined radionuclides,226Ra (2.1) and232Th (0.7) seemed to be positively right-skewed while40K (−0.2) had a negatively right-skewed histogram. On the other hand, the following kurtosis values were calculated for the distributions:226Ra (5.8 > 3),232Th (−0.7), and40K (−0.8). Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Shapiro–Wilk tests were applied to the data to test their normality. Therefore, Spearman’s correlation coefficient method was performed. The radionuclides of226Ra and232Th were found to have a positive correlation with radiological hazard parameters of the samples. 2 (two)-related factors identified, and the cumulative value was calculated to be 98.7% on the basis of the Scree Plot. According to the hierarchical cluster analysis, the samples that are grouped with those from Camlik region are prominent. The average radioactivity values of Camlik, Sogukpinar, Karacabey, and Sogut (except for232Th) regions were detected to be higher than the world averages while the value of40K was also found to be higher than the average values of various countries in the world.

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Scopus SJRQ1Postcollisional transition from subduction- to intraplatetype magmatism in the eastern Sakarya zone, Turkey: Indicators of northern Neotethyan slab breakoff
Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Aydin, Faruk; Karsli, Orhan
Postcollisional magmatism in the eastern Sakarya zone was recorded by voluminous basic volcanism and repeated plutonism during the early Cenozoic. The temporal and geochemical evolution of these magmatic rocks is important for understanding the possible geodynamic history of the Sakarya zone. Here, we investigated three representative plutons lying between the towns of çamlihemşin (Rize) and Ispir (Erzurum), Turkey. These are largely composed of medium-K gabbroic diorites (Marselavat Pluton), shoshonitic monzonites (Güllübağ Pluton), and high-K granites (Ayder Pluton). We present whole-rock geochemistry, 40Ar/39Ar geochronology, and Sr, Nd, and Pb isotope analyses from the plutons to constrain the timing of variations in magmatism and source characteristics, and we provide a new approach to the proposed geodynamic models, which are still heavily debated. The 40Ar/39Ar geochronology reveals a cooling sequence from ca. 45 Ma for the Marselavat Pluton through ca. 41 Ma for the Güllübağ Pluton to ca. 40 Ma for the Ayder Pluton. Whole-rock geochemistry and Sr, Nd, Pb isotopes suggest that crustal contamination was not an important factor affecting magma compositions. Although there was no arc-related tectonic setting in the region during the middle Eocene, the Marselavat Pluton shows some subduction affinities, such as moderately negative Nb and Ta anomalies, and slightly positive Pb anomalies. These signatures were possibly inherited from a depleted mantle source that was modified by hydrous fluids released from the oceanic slab during Late Cretaceous subduction. Geochemical traces of the earlier subduction become uncertain in the Güllübağ samples. They display ocean-island basalt-like multi-element profiles and Nb/Ta, Ce/Pb, and La/Ba ratios. All these point to a mantle source in which earlier subduction signatures were hybridized by the addition of asthenospheric melts. Melting of calc-alkaline crustal material, probably emplaced during the first phase of middle Eocene magmatism (Marselavat), led to the formation of granitic plutonism (Ayder Pluton). Our data in conjunction with early Eocene adakite-like rocks show that melt generation, as in the given sequence, was most probably triggered by breakoff of the northern Neotethyan oceanic slab, ~13 m.y. after the early Maastrichtian collision between the Sakarya zone and Anatolide-Tauride block, and continued until the end of the middle Eocene. A shallow-marine transgression occurred contemporaneously with the middle Eocene magmatism throughout the Sakarya zone. An extension in this magnitude seems unlikely to be the result of orogenic collapse processes only. The main cause of this extension was most probably related to the northward subduction of the southern Neotethys Ocean beneath the Anatolide-Tauride block. The result is a volumetrically larger amount of middle Eocene magmatism than that expected in response to slab breakoff.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ2Distinct contamination indices for evaluating potentially toxic element levels in stream sediments: a case study of the Harşit Stream (NE Turkey)
Saydam Eker, Çiğdem
This paper revealed that the level of certain potentially toxic elements (PTEs) can be reflected in stream and terrace sediments from Harşit Stream in Northeast Turkey. The potential toxicity of these elements was established by determining and interpreting the enrichment factor (EF), contamination index (Pi), ecological risk index (Eri), modified hazard quotient (mHQ), hazard quotient (HQ), and hazard index (HI). The distribution of PTEs in the sediment samples was non-uniform along the different sites of the stream. The change in concentration was attributed to the release of these elements from different sources (agricultural activities, industrial activities, and gasoline discharges). Results indicated that the stream sediments were locally contaminated by the following PTEs: Pb, As, and Cd based on EF values; Cu, Pb, Zn, As, Cd, and Hg based on Pi; Pb, Cd, and Hg based on Eri; and Pb, As, Cd, and Hg based on mHQ. According to the HQ and HI values of Pb, risks were posed to human health especially to children. Meanwhile, terrace sediments were locally contaminated as follows: Zn and As based on EF; Cu, Pb, Zn, As, and Cd based on Pi; and Zn and Cd based on Eri. The HQ and HI values of As were found to be > 1, suggesting a high chance of health risk to children. The PTE levels and the local distribution pattern revealed that agricultural activities, industrial functions, and gas stations along the stream were probable sources of toxic element contamination in sediments from the Harşit Stream. These findings can help evaluate the potential toxicity risks affecting living organisms.

Celen, Pinar; Erdem, Hasan H; Pusat, Saban
In this study, Turkish lignite dried with hot air and superheated steam was experimentally investigated. Drying experiments were carried out at 120°C drying temperature and atmospheric pressure. Mass, center and surface temperature changes of lignite having a diameter of 30 mm were continuously measured. Hot air and superheated steam drying methods were compared, and it was found that, because of condensation in the initial stage of superheated steam, the moisture content of the lignite sample temporarily increased. On the contrary, the moisture content of the lignite sample dramatically reduced on drying with hot air. Six different thin-layer models describing the drying kinetics of lignite were fitted to the experimental data, with the Pusat model giving the best predictions with superheated steam drying and the Midilli model giving the best predictions with hot air drying of a single particle.

Özer, Çağlar; Öztürk, Serkan; Pamuk, Eren
The tectonic and structural properties of Erzurum and its surroundings have been investigated by evaluating the seismo-tectonic b-value, magnetic anomaly, edge detection analysis (total horizontal derivative (THDR) and tilt angle (TA)), Curie Point Depth (CPD), P-wave velocity (Vp), and Vp / Vs (S-wave velocity) ratio and by imaging the regional distributions of these parameters. For this purpose, all parameters have been combined to be able to reveal the new useful results on the study region and are presented for different locations and depths. The Vp values have been accompanied by high Vp / Vs ratios and shallow CPD values in the areas with geothermal regions such as Tekman, Söylemez, and the northern part of Karlıova. In the tectonically active regions such as Ilıca, Dumlu, Pasinler, Çat, Karlıova and Karaçoban, high reduction-to – the-pole (RTP) total magnetic anomaly was accompanied by low Vp values in harmony. Besides, the low Vp values between 0 and 10 km and high b-values can be related to the weakness zones and the areas in which earthquake hazards are high in the study area. The low Vp values in the 0 km horizontal slice are in accordance with the high RTP total magnetic anomaly values in the triangle area between Aşkale, Ilıca-Dumlu-Pasinler, Narman, and Karaçoban. Uniformly, high Vp and low RTP total magnetic anomaly inclusions overlap in Çat and Tekman. In some regions such as Dumlu, Narman, Horasan, Karaçoban and south of Karlıova, the tilt angle values are positive (positive values in the tilt angle map correspond to the center of the structure causing the magnetic anomaly) and the Vp values are low, but there is not a complete harmony between these parameters. These results show that variations on these parameters are related to each other, and these types of geophysical data are required for tectonic and structural features at different locations and depth levels.

İncele - MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2021Scopus SJRQ1Evaluating the chemical and metal contamination of commercial raki, a grape-based alcoholic beverage from turkey
Menevseoglu, Ahmed; Cabaroglu, Turgut
Turkish Raki is one of the most consumed alcoholic beverages in Turkey. The chemical and metal contamination of alcoholic beverages is a threat to human health and lowers the quality of the product. Ethyl carbamate and furfural are carcinogenic to animals, and have been classified as Group 2A and 3 agents respectively by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Factors, such as raw materials, process time and storage, affect metal concentrations in beverages. Limits for chemicals and metals in Raki have not yet been established by the Turkish agency. The present study aimed to evaluate the chemical and metal contamination of commercial Turkish Raki. Thirty-seven different types of Turkish Raki were purchased from local markets in Turkey. Ethyl carbamate (EC) and furfural (FR) levels were measured by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). Arsenic, copper, lead, and zinc levels were measured by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). None of the Raki samples contained EC. Furfural was not detected in commercial Raki samples but only in illegal Raki samples. Ethanol and methanol levels complied with Turkish regulation. Our data shows that commercial Raki from Turkey was contaminated by very low amounts of arsenic (<LOD-0.02 mg/L), copper (0.05-0.41 mg/L), lead (< LOD- 0.03 mg/L) and zinc (0.01-0.39 mg/L).

Brain-computer Interface (BCI) systems, usually using signals taken from users' brain through electroencephalography (EEG), control various devices around and provide the user's com-mand by interacting. Improving the quality of life of people with disabilities is the main goal of BCI systems. The importance of BCI-based smart home systems is further increasing as a smart home system directly affects the life of a disabled individual. On the other hand, few BCI systems can be run directly using smart home systems. The importance of the BCI-based smart home and the few existing systems require more work in this vital field. In addition, no reviews have described BCI systems in a smart home. In this study, we reviewed all the papers on BCI-based smart home systems published in the last 6 years. These studies investigated and evaluated BCI systems from nine different perspectives. In addition, all studies were examined in terms of signal processing methods. Finally, the problems and challenges of these systems were discussed and new solutions were pro-posed.

Abstract: This research was intended to determine the effect of different cereal and pulse flours and commercial gluten-free flour on the mineral content, fatty acid composition, and volatile compounds of the gluten-free tarhana (cereal-based fermented dry soup). In order to produce the gluten-free tarhana, white bean (BF), chickpea (CF), commercial gluten-free (GWF), yellow lentil (LF), and rice (RF) flours were used. The Mg, K, Al, and Mn contents of tarhanas obtained using different pulse and cereal flours were found to be quite high compared to tarhanas produced with commercial GWF. The utilization of different cereal and pulse flours in the tarhana formulation resulted in an increase in the percentage (30.37–51.47%) of the total polyunsaturated fatty acid (TPUFA). The highest (452.4 µg/g) and the lowest (241.17 µg/g) total concentration of all compounds were detected in BF and GWF, respectively. The highest number (21) of compounds belonged to terpenes and terpenoids, followed by acids, hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, esters, ketones, and alkanes. Practical Application: This study shows that cereal and pulse flours can be used to produce acceptable tarhana with improved nutritional quality in terms of mineral and fatty acid contents. The results of the current study may be useful and applicable to food manufacturers producing gluten-free products for celiac patients.

With the use of computers in every field, the usage intensity of processors is increasing day by day. In order to cope with this intensity, processors need to be constantly updated and improved. Various scheduling algorithms are being developed every day in order to continuously improve and accelerate the processors and to cope with the processing intensity. The main purpose of the scheduling algorithms is to increase the efficiency of the processor. For this, the processor needs to make a planning between the pending processes. Planning can be done by giving different priorities or using different methods. In order to increase the efficiency of the processor, in this paper, existing algorithms were examined. Round Robin Algorithm was improved using Genetic Algorithm. It is aimed to find the optimum values by selecting the quantum value according to the pending processes and their parameters. When the developed new method compared with the existing standard algorithms, it is observed that the waiting time and the turnaround time were shorter than the other algorithms.
- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ1A Novel Group Decision-Making Method Based on Linguistic Neutrosophic Maclaurin Symmetric Mean (Revision IV)
Şahin, Rıdvan; Küçük, Gökçe Dilek
Linguistic neutrosophic number (LNN) is a specific form of neutrosophic number whose elements are expressed by linguistic terms. Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM) operator is one of the basic collection operators in the modern knowledge fusion theory. Its most important feature is to consider the interrelationships among multiple input arguments. Multiple attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) with linguistic neutrosophic information is considered. First, we present some basic concepts, then we combine the MSM operator with linguistic neutrosophic environment and develop a sequence of linguistic neutrosophic MSM operators which are the linguistic neutrosophic Maclaurin symmetric mean (LNMSM) operator, the weighted linguistic neutrosophic Maclaurin symmetric mean (WLNMSM) operator, linguistic neutrosophic dual Maclaurin symmetric mean (LNDMSM) operator, and the weighted linguistic neutrosophic dual Maclaurin symmetric mean (WLNDMSM) operator. We look into some features of them such as monotonicity, boundedness, and idempotency and then discuss some special situations of these operators. A new idea based on the WLNMSM operator is proposed to solve an MAGDM problem where evaluation information is composed of LNNs. It is worth mentioning that the weight information of the decision-makers (DMs) and the attributes are completely unknown. In conclusion, a comparison analysis is performed with the existing methods. The developed method is based on both the WLNMSM operator which considers the interrelationships among any number of input arguments and LNNs which is a combination of the neutrosophic numbers, linguistic variables. At the same time, it also has the advantages of mentioned components. So, it enables preventing the loss or distortion of the original decision information in the decision-making process.

- MakaleYalnız künye2019Cancer risk analysis of some drinking water resources in Gümüşhane, Turkey
Karabıdak, Salih M.; Kaya, A.; Kaya, S.
Water; it is the basic necessity of living things that exist in the world like air and food. An adult person consumes an average of 2 L of water per day by drinking. This consumed water contains a number of radionuclides. For this reason, it is important to determine the effect of these radionuclides on human biological structure. In studies up to now, researchers calculate activity concentrations of radionuclides in drinking water and calculate annual equivalent doses based on these activity concentrations. However, it is always overlooked that this consumption is constant in calculations. This results in the inability of drinking water to fully determine the effect on human health. In this study, a new and comprehensive perspective was introduced in the gamma analysis of drinking water. This viewpoint includes the activity concentration, the annual equivalent dose, lifetime average annual dose, and lifetime cancer risk assessment depending on age groups. Thus, it is aimed that the radionuclides present in water can make more reliable calculations on affecting human health and water cleaning in terms of radiation. The proposed model was applied to some drinking water sources in Gümüşhane. We found out that the obtained values of annual effective dose equivalent in all samples do not exceed the WHO recommended levels. The risk of cumulative cancer at the end of the 70th year of a person using these drinking water sources has been about determined as 1 in 100,000. Positive correlations were obtained between 226Ra, 232Th, and 40K concentrations versus pH. In addition, a negative correlation was obtained 40K concentration with conductivity.

Şahin, Rıdvan; Altun, Fatma
Recently, there has been great interest on single valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy set theory. When compared single valued neutrosophic set, it is more convenient for real life situations. But even in this case, there is still missing data for some decision problems. Probabilistic single valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy sets (PSVNHFSs) are defined to solve this problem. Even though it contains more information, it needs some improvements. In this paper, the modified PSVNHFS is defined and some improvements in the theory of PSVNHFS are proposed. Also, we improve some algebraic properties of this set theory and define a distance operator for PSVNHFSs. Then we introduce two aggregation operators called probabilistic single valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy weighted arithmetic average (PSVNHFWA) operator and probabilistic single valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy weighted geometric average (PSVNHFWG) operator related to algebraic properties presented in this paper. Also, we extend the MABAC method under the probabilistic single valued neutrosophic hesitant fuzzy set theory. Finally, we give an illustrative example to demonstrate the stability and reliability of the proposed theory.

Aim: This study aims to investigate the factors affecting nurses' professional commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background: Commitment to a profession requires doing the best for that profession. In the case of the nursing profession, professional commitment gains greater importance in times of crisis, like the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 389 nurses in the Turkish state hospital. Institutional permissions, ethical approval and written consents from the participants were obtained before carrying out the study. Results: The participants’ mean Perceived Organizational Obstruction Scale score was 20.07 ± 8.06 (min = 5.0, max = 35.0), and their mean Nursing Professional Commitment Scale score was 71.20 ± 11.94 (min = 30.0, max = 103.0). Socio-demographic variables and perception of organisational obstruction predicted 36.7% of the variance in the professional commitment (p <.001). Conclusion: A road map based on the study results was developed for hospitals and nurse managers to maintain and increase nurses' professional commitment. Implications for Nursing Management: The results of this study may help institutions and nurse managers understand the factors affecting professional commitment during the pandemic as a whole, as well as determine primary strategies based on the importance of these factors.

Demirag, Hatice; Kulakaç, Nurşen; Hintistan, Sevilay; Çilingir, Dilek
Objective: This study aims to determine the effects of cachexia, causing major problems in the world and Turkey, on self-care agency and quality of life in cancer patients. Methods: The population of this cross-sectional and relationship-seeking study consisted of cancer patients in Turkey from April 1 to April 20, 2021. Using the snowball sampling method, 174 patients were sampled. 'Patient Information Form,' 'The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer C30 Cancer Quality of Life Scale,' and 'Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale' were used as data collection tools. Results: In the study, 52 patients (29.9%) were found to have cachexia. Function, general well-being, symptom (except insomnia), and self-care agency, which are subdimensions of the quality-of-life scale, were found to be significantly lower in patients with cachexia than patients without cachexia (P < 0.001). It was determined that there was a significant negative correlation between the cachexia status of the patients and the five basic functions in the functional scale (physical, role, emotional, cognitive, and social function), general well-being, and self-care agency, and there was a significant positive correlation between the cachexia status of the patients and the symptom scale (P < 0.001). According to the results of multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that the factor that significantly affected the cachexia status of the patients was their self-care agency (P < 0.001). Conclusions: It was determined that cachexia caused significantly lower self-care agency and quality of life in cancer patients. Furthermore, quality of life was related to self-care agency.

- MakaleYalnız künye2020Scopus SJRQ22D and 3D numerical simulations of a reinforced landslide: A case study in NE Turkey
Ersoy, Hakan; Kaya, Ayberk; Angın, Zekaİ; DaĞ, Serhat
The purpose of this study is to investigate the slope stability problem that occurred in the Ulubey (NE Turkey) during the construction of a hospital building and to propose a reliable support design. The borehole applications, geophysical surveys, groundwater measurements, soil sampling and SPT were performed to establish the geotechnical model. Based on the site characterization investigations, three units were defined as sliding material, residual regolith and volcanic rocks. Strength parameters of the sliding and residual soil materials were obtained from the back analysis. The long-term performance of the double row-bore piles was proposed as support measures and was controlled using the limit equilibrium (LE) and finite element (FEM) analyses methods under a dynamic condition. The 2D-LE and 2D-FEM analysis results showed that the suggested support design is reliable for long-term stability. The locations of the critical shear surface determined by 2D methods were almost the same as those obtained from 3D-FEM method and the total displacement values obtained from the 3D-FEM model were smaller than those obtained from the 2D-FEM model. These results indicated that 2D and 3D stability analyses were sufficient to evaluate the stability of uncomplex slope geometry when a reliable design with simple solutions was required.
