Özalp, Cemal; Tuncer, Metin; Kaya, Abdulsamed; Şahin, Fatih
Aim: The study aimed to examine the relationship between clinical learning environment and caring behaviors in nursing students and to test the serial mediating roles of belonging and state mindfulness in this relationship. Background: The psychosocial mechanisms linking the clinical learning environment to caring behaviors remain unclear, particularly the combined roles of belonging and state mindfulness. Design: The study had a cross-sectional design and was conducted in line with the STROBE guidelines. Methods: The sample consisted of 452 undergraduate nursing students studying at a state university in Turkiye. The data were collected between December 2025 and January 2026 using the Personal Information Form, Clinical Learning Environment Scale, Nursing Department Belonging Scale, State Mindfulness Scale, and Caring Behaviors Inventory. Results: The clinical learning environment was found to be positively correlated with sense of belonging (B = 0.412, p < .001). Sense of belonging significantly predicted both State Mindfulness (B = 0.607, p < .001) and caring behaviors (B = 0.857, p < .001). State mindfulness is also a significant predictor of caring behaviors (B = 0.734, p < .001). Indirect effects analyses indicated that the clinical learning environment was associated with caring behaviors through sense of belonging and through the sequential pathway involving both sense of belonging and state mindfulness. However, the direct effect of the clinical learning environment on caring behaviors was not significant. Additionally, the indirect effect of the clinical learning environment on caring behaviors through state mindfulness alone was not significant. Conclusions: The results of the study showed that the clinical learning environment is associated with nursing students' caring behaviors indirectly through sense of belonging and state mindfulness, rather than directly.
- MakaleYalnız künye2026Changes in BMI, lipid profile, disease perception, and quality of life among myocardial infarction patients participating in a 12-week green walking: A quasi-experimental study
Cin, Aynur; Hintistan, Sevilay
Objective This study assessed the 12-week intervention of green walking on BMI, blood lipids, disease perception, and quality of life among myocardial infarction patients. Methods In a quasi-experimental design, 60 participants (28 men, 32 women; aged 36–77 years) were assigned to intervention (green walk) or control (routine care) groups based on geographic convenience. The green walking group performed high-intensity interval walking for 50 min three times a week in a natural setting for 12 weeks. Adherence was monitored via attendance logs, with a mean of 91.7 % (SD 7.1 %). Primary outcomes included BMI and lipid profiles, while secondary outcomes included perceived illness and quality of life, assessed through validated questionnaires. A mixed-design model incorporating time-group interaction was used for analysis. Data were analyzed using mixed-design ANOVA, repeated-measures ANOVA, paired t-tests, Friedman tests, and Wilcoxon tests. Results The green walk group showed improvements in several measures including a reduction in BMI and positive changes in lipid profiles and disease perception scores with enhanced quality of life for both groups. The mean differences between groups for weight, BMI, and concerns over medication were not significant. No severe adverse events were recorded during the entire 12-week program. Conclusions Participation in the green walking program for 12 weeks is associated with favorable trends in BMI, lipid levels, disease perception, and quality of life among myocardial infarction patients which structured green walking can be an aid toward improving well-being during cardiac rehabilitation; however further randomized controlled studies will substantive such an association.

Background: Cybersecurity has become a critical issue with the increasing use of digital platforms in healthcare. Understanding nursing students' cybersecurity practices, perceptions, and cybercrime awareness is essential for improving healthcare security and developing strategies to mitigate cyber threats. Aim: This study aimed to determine nursing students' cybersecurity practices, perceptions, and cybercrime awareness. Design: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used. Setting: The study was conducted between April and June 2024 at a School of Nursing within a public university in Türkiye. Participants: A total of 434 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study. Methods: Data were collected face-to-face using a paper-and-pencil technique. The data collection tools used included the Personal Information Form, Cyber Security Scale (CSS), and Cyber Crime Awareness Scale (CAS). Data analysis utilised descriptive statistical methods, Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, ANOVA, and linear regression analysis. Results: The study revealed that 92.9 % of the students had not received any prior cybersecurity education. The mean CSS score was 87.50 ± 11.40, and the mean CAS score was 174.75 ± 36.75. A moderate positive correlation was found between the CSS and CAS scores (r = 0.576, p < 0.01). A positive relationship was found between computer usage skills and CSS scores (r = 0.190, p < 0.01), while a weak negative correlation was observed between internet usage duration and CSS scores (r = −0.095, p < 0.05). No relationships were identified between the CSS score and age, gender, or cybersecurity education. Linear regression analysis showed that higher computer usage skill levels were significantly associated with increased CSS scores (B = 1.129, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of integrating cybersecurity education into the nursing curriculum. Enhancing cybersecurity awareness and practices may help protect patient data and support safer healthcare by better preparing nursing students for cyber threats.

- MakaleYalnız künye2017Nothing is more important than my partner's health: Turkish men's perspectives on partner's appearance after mastectomy and alopecia
Gürsoy, Ayla; Koçan, Sema; Aktuğ, Cemile
Purposes The aim of this study was to acquire a deeper understanding of male experiences on the emotional and social impact of their partners’ mastectomy and chemotherapy-induced alopecia. Methods A purposive sample of 16 males whose partners had undergone mastectomy and alopecia due to chemotherapy was chosen. The data were collected through a semi-structured interview method. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of tape-recorded interviews was employed. Results Two main themes emerged from the data: facing the changes and my wife and I at present. Male partners were affected differently by the change in the physical appearance of their female partners. Our study participants said it was a difficult experience to see their partners for the first time after the surgery, but they emphasized that it was more important that their partners were healthy than the fact that they did not have a breast and hair. They also said they did not know how to behave towards their partners after surgery and/or chemotherapy. Nevertheless, they felt that the disease process of their partners had strengthened their bond and had not negatively influenced their relationship with others. Conclusions The changes in the partners’ physical appearance after mastectomy and chemotherapy affected males differently in psychological, emotional and social terms. Since nurses working in this field are in contact with patients during all phases of treatment and care, it would be positive and beneficial to plan nursing interventions that give emotional support for male partners of patients with breast cancer.
- MakaleYalnız künye2014Attitudes towards HIV/AIDS patients and empathic tendencies: A study of Turkish undergraduate nursing students
Özakgül, Aylin Aktaş; Şendir, Merdiye; Atav, A. Serdar; Kiziltan, Belkiz
Background: Studies indicate that the attitudes of nurses, nursing students, and other health care professionals towards Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients are affected by cultural differences and the fear of HIV/AIDS infection, resulting in both negative attitudes and reluctance to care for these patients. Empathy is critical for all health professionals in the delivery of effective care. Research indicates that as empathic tendencies develop, so do better communication skills, better attitudes, and better quality of care. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among demographic factors, familiarity with HIV/AIDS, attitudes towards HIV/AIDS, and empathic tendencies in a Turkish sample of nursing students. Design and Methods: Using a non-experimental, correlational design, data on demographics, HIV/AIDS Attitude Scale (AAS) and the Scale of Empathic Tendency (SET) were collected. Participants: The study sample consisted of 614 undergraduate nursing students in two universities located in different geographic regions of Turkey. Results: The results of this study indicated that attitudes and empathic tendencies are related to knowledge and exposure to patients. As well, those students with more positive attitudes had higher empathic tendencies towards HIV/AIDS patients. Conclusions: It is important to adopt strategies to improve the empathic tendencies and attitudes of nursing students. These strategic changes would increase the quality of care provided to all patients.
