- MakaleYalnız künye2018Scopus SJRQ4Determination of Late Embryonic Death Rates by Pregnancy Associated Glycoproteins and Rectal Examination in Cows
Paksoy, Zahid
In this study, it was aimed to make the pregnancy diagnosis with the determination of glycoproteins (PAG) associated pregnancy after insemination in the cows, and to determine the late embryonic mortality rates. As material, 2919 head cows in different races and ages were used in farms and family businesses in Kahramanmaraş province. Milk sample was taken on the 25–30 day after artificial insemination from cows. The level of PAG in these milk samples was analyzed by using the Milk Pregnancy Test Kit for cows. This kit was used according to the manufacturer's instructions. During the study, it was determined that 1660 cows were pregnant, 188 were suspicious and 1071 were not pregnant. The pregnant animals were examined by rectal palpation on the 50th day when their pregnancy was continued. Controls performed on the 50th day of pregnant cows showed that 1623 cows were still pregnant and 37 cows had late embryonic deaths. As a result, early pregnancies can be accurately detected by measuring the level of PAG in the cow's milk using the Milk Pregnancy Test Kit. It was concluded that late embryonic mortality rates could be detected and that this analysis could be used routinely.
- MakaleYalnız künye2015Scopus SJRQ4Effectiveness of levamisole and tarantula cubensis extract in the treatment of teat Papillomatosis of cows

Papillomatosis is widespread in cattle and is often observed on the skin of udders. For treatment, anthelmintic, immunomodulator and homeopathic drugs are administered. The objective of the study was to examine the therapeutic effect of levamisole and tarantula cubensis extract in the treatment of papilloma observed in the teats of cows. Sixteen Holstein cows between the age of 2-3 years were used as study material. The cows with Papillomatosis were randomly assigned into two equal groups. The animals in the first group (n=8) were treated with intramuscular double doses of levamisole (5 mg/kg) applied one week apart. The second group of animals (n=8) was treated with two subcutaneous doses of 10 ml of Tarantula cubensis extract one week apart. Four animals in the first group recovered while 8 animals in the second group recovered. The total serum oxidant levels of the animals treated with Tarantula cubensis extract and levamisole on the 15th day was found to be significantly lower than the serum levels of same animals on day 0 of the treatment (P<0.05). The results of this study revealed that tarantula cubensis extract applied in normal therapeutic doses was more effective in the treatment of teat papillomatosis than levamisole.

Gokhan, Nezihe; Sozmen, Mahmut; Ozba, Burhan; Gungor, Emine
Objective: To describe the clinical and pathomorphological features of meibomian carcinoma (MC) diagnosed in a Simmental cow. Material and methods: A 7-year-old Simmental cow was admitted to the Veterinary Surgery Clinics of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Kafkas, Kars, Turkey. The signalment and anatomical distribution were summarized and focused on pathomorphological description. Results: Macroscopically, a papillary mass, 5 × 3.5 × 7 cm in size, arising from the left lower eyelid with local spread to the upper eyelid and covering the entire globe was observed. The mass was ulcerated and hemorrhagic and applied pressure to the globe. Following sedation and local anesthesia, the mass and globe were excised. Histopathological examination revealed an MC. Conclusions: The diagnosis of MC is infrequent in veterinary literature. Complete surgical excision could be curative and histopathology is crucial for the diagnosis of MC occurring in animals.

- MakaleYalnız künye2008Reproductive and milk production traits of Holstein Friesian cows in pre-organic and organic dairy husbandry in Turkey
Bayram, Bahri; Yanar, Mete; Akbulut, Ömer
The study was aimed to describe changes caused by conversion to organic dairy farming in Turkey, focusing on reproductive and milk production traits. The data used in this research were obtained from reproductive and milk records of Holstein Friesian cows reared in a private organic dairy farm. The results revealed that cows under organic management had shorter days open and calving interval values compared with cows reared under pre-organic system. Actual and 305 days milk yields of cattle in organic system were greater than these of cows in pre-organic system. Lactation duration was also significantly influenced by farming system and calving season, but days dry was not affected by none the non-genetic factors.
