1830s was a period that international trade to Iran changed its route and began to develop by TrabzonTebriz route. This new development, which was the result of British enterprises, enabled to raise Trabzon and Erzurum as transit trade cities. The French, who was trying to gain political and commercial influence in the region for a long time, followed the British desire for the Persian transit trade. Therefore, the French consul resided in Trabzon since 1803 monitored these commercial developments and prepared useful reports to benefit this increasing trade for French and to guide the French merchant who wants to invest in the region.
