Mine and mining in Ordu and Giresun region (1860–1914)

It is well known fact that the districts of Ordu and Giresun havevery important mines and from the antiquity the region was the miningarea. Mining in this district continued its importance after the Ottomandominance over the region. In the 19th century copper, silver, limestone,lead, manganese, marble, mineral water were the main mining valueswhile the region was only a scene of iron mining in the Antiquity.Arrangements in the mining sectors from 1842 included district ofOrdu and Giresun and affected mining activities in the region. So, in the second part of the 19th century foreign and native mining companiesopened new mines and contributed favorably economy of region.Inthis study, we mention about mines of the district, the places of themines and their effects on the local economy from 1860 and until the 1st World War.
