The problematic of otherisation in desiderius erasmus

Different types of problematic of otherisation which are seen as one of the today’s important problem have been encountered in different periods of history. However, it is noteworthy that the problematic of otherisation was reflected in many written works written in the past. The works of Desiderius Erasmus who lived during the Renaissance period and is widely known as a humanist/tolerant intellectual/thinker should also be considered in this context. Because when his works are examined carefully, it attracts attention that he used exclusionary, offensive and even degrading language towards other nations. In this context, it is an academically need to analyze especially his othering expressions made towards the Jews, Ottomans/Turks and women. Despite his othering attitude, the reason why he was called humanist, tolerant or pacifist appears as another problematic to be discussed. In addition, it is important to understand Erasmus's ideas in accordance with his essence and to redefine them in this way thereby examining thoughts in his works.
