Özet

Objective: Healthy life behaviors such as regular physical activity, healthy nutrition, regular\rsleep, and smoking cessation play an important role in protecting against metabolic syndrome.\rThis study was planned to investigate the relationship between metabolic syndrome risk, physical\ractivity, sleep quality, and fatigue among university students.\rMethods: This research was conducted in Health Services Vocational School studying in\rTurkey. The study sample consisted of 319 students who complied with the criteria of inclusion\rfor the study. The data were collected using the “Demographic Information Form,” “Metabolic\rSyndrome Research Form (MSAF),” “Pitsburg Sleep Quality Scale (PSQI),” “Fatigue Severity\rScale,” and “International Physical Activity Questionnaire (Short).” Statistical analyses were\rperformed with NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 Statistical Software (Utah,\rUSA) package program.\rResults: In total, 319 people, including 100 men (31.35%) and 219 women (68.65%), participated\rin the study. The mean age of the participants was 20.80 ± 2.24. A statistically significant positive\rcorrelation was observed between MMSAF values and PSQI values (r = 0.250, P = .0001). A\rstatistically significant negative correlation was observed between MSAF values and IPAQ values\r(r = −0.175, P = .002). A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between\rMSAF values and fatigue values (r = 0.485, P = .0001). No statistically significant correlation was\robserved between IPAQ values and PSQI values (r = −0.058, P = .303). A statistically significant\rnegative correlation was observed between IPAQ values and fatigue values (r = −0.137, P = .014). Conclusion: It is known that metabolic syndrome has become widespread due to the current lifestyle. With the support of the literature, it is stated\rthat physical activity, sleep quality, and fatigue to prevent metabolic syndrome are related and of great importance for public health. For this reason,\rwe think that physical activity, sleep quality, and fatigue awareness should be brought to the whole society to prevent metabolic syndrome.
