    Arslan, Mesut; Aydın, Emine Büşra

Objective: Healthy life behaviors such as regular physical activity, healthy nutrition, regular\rsleep, and smoking cessation play an important role in protecting against metabolic syndrome.\rThis study was planned to investigate the relationship between metabolic syndrome risk, physical\ractivity, sleep quality, and fatigue among university students.\rMethods: This research was conducted in Health Services Vocational School studying in\rTurkey. The study sample consisted of 319 students who complied with the criteria of inclusion\rfor the study. The data were collected using the “Demographic Information Form,” “Metabolic\rSyndrome Research Form (MSAF),” “Pitsburg Sleep Quality Scale (PSQI),” “Fatigue Severity\rScale,” and “International Physical Activity Questionnaire (Short).” Statistical analyses were\rperformed with NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 Statistical Software (Utah,\rUSA) package program.\rResults: In total, 319 people, including 100 men (31.35%) and 219 women (68.65%), participated\rin the study. The mean age of the participants was 20.80 ± 2.24. A statistically significant positive\rcorrelation was observed between MMSAF values and PSQI values (r = 0.250, P = .0001). A\rstatistically significant negative correlation was observed between MSAF values and IPAQ values\r(r = −0.175, P = .002). A statistically significant positive correlation was observed between\rMSAF values and fatigue values (r = 0.485, P = .0001). No statistically significant correlation was\robserved between IPAQ values and PSQI values (r = −0.058, P = .303). A statistically significant\rnegative correlation was observed between IPAQ values and fatigue values (r = −0.137, P = .014). Conclusion: It is known that metabolic syndrome has become widespread due to the current lifestyle. With the support of the literature, it is stated\rthat physical activity, sleep quality, and fatigue to prevent metabolic syndrome are related and of great importance for public health. For this reason,\rwe think that physical activity, sleep quality, and fatigue awareness should be brought to the whole society to prevent metabolic syndrome.

Arslan, Mesut; Atalay, Emre Serdar; Taşkaya, Cengiz

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of diaphragmatic kinesiology taping on physical fitness parameters in university students. Twenty male university students participated in this study voluntarily. Muscle facilitation technique was applied on back and abdominal region coinciding diaphragm muscle. For sham application, same tape material was applied without a special stretch or technique. International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short Form (IPAQ-SF), 2 km walking test, prone plank, side plank, Sorenson test and Standing stork test were used for evaluation. After the first evaluation, we waited 72 hours for the second application. Firstly, 10 participants had tape application and the other half had sham taping. In the second session, we changed the application. In the taping and placebo applications, a significant relationship was found between prone endurance test values before and after application (p<0.05). In the kinesio tape and placebo applications, a significant relationship was found in 2 km walk performance compared to untaped condition evaluation before and after the application (p <0.05). In the before-after evaluations within the group, a significant difference was found in the kinesio tape and placebo applications in the 2-kilometer walking test, but there was no statistically significant difference in the comparisons between the kinesio tape and placebo applications.

Investigation and Curriculum Analysis of Physiotherapy Associate Programs in Vocational High Schools in Turkey

    Pehlivan, Esra; Arslan, Mesut

The aim of this study is to examine the Physiotherapy associate programs in Turkey and make curriculum analysis. By the scanning of ‘TR Center of Evaluation, Program Selection and Placement (ÖSYM)’ and ‘Higher Education Council (YOK)’ web pages, Physiotherapy associate degree programs in state and foundation universities established in our country were scrutinized. The dates that students were admitted to Physiotherapy programs, 2013 and 2018 quota numbers, number of lecturers, course curricula have been examined, and the data have been documented as percentages and rates. In our data scanning, it is seen that 38 (42.6%) of Physiotherapy associate degree programs were opened in 2013 and before, 58 (57.4%) were opened after 2013. The quota numbers in these schools are 1605 by the year 2013 and 5827 by the year 2018. While the number of lecturers in 2018 is 2 or below in 26 (25.7%) schools, the number of Physiotherapist lecturers is 2 and below in 51 (50.5%) schools. When the curriculums were examined, it has been determined that assessment and evaluation courses were in 64.4% of schools and rehabilitation courses were in 79.2% of schools. According to the obtained results of our study, there is an insufficient number of faculty members in Physiotherapy technician associate degree programs in Turkey and there is a lack of standardization in their curriculum. We think that the program should be organized in accordance with the profession definition and the number of faculty members should be increased.
