Objective This research aimed to adapt Positive Attitudes Toward and Perceived Importance of Wearable Display Technology (PATPIWDT) as an Effective Learning Tool Among Nursing Students into Turkish and to examine the validity and reliability of its translation. Methods This methodological study included 698 nursing students recruited via convenience sampling. Construct validity was evaluated using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with the Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimation method. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's Omega coefficients. Results The model demonstrated excellent fit according to the confirmatory factor analysis results. The CFA results for the Positive Attitudes subscale indicated a good model fit (CMIN/DF = 4.79, GFI = 0.93, CFI = 0.97, RMSEA = 0.07, SRMR = 0.03). For the Perceived Importance subscale, the single-factor structure showed acceptable fit indices (CMIN/DF = 5.82, GFI = 0.98, SRMR = 0.03). As a result of examining the standardized loadings of the items, it was seen that the item factor loadings were 0.40 and above, indicating sufficient factor loading. Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.91 for the positive attitudes subscale and 0.84 for the perceived importance subscale. The respondents also demonstrated an above-average overall score, with a mean of 3.40 (SD = 0.69).Conclusion The Turkish version of the scale provides a dependable measure of nursing students' positive attitudes toward wearable screens and how important they consider this technology for future educational use.

Gundogdu, Ali; Duran, Celal; Senturk, H. Basri; Soylak, Mustafa; Ozdes, Duygu; Serencam, Huseyin; Imamoglu, Mustafa
The ability of activated carbon which was produced by chemical activation using zinc chloride from tea industry wastes (TIWAC) to adsorb phenol molecules from aqueous solution was tested by equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic parameters. Phenol adsorption on TIWAC took place with a high yield at pH values in the range 4 to 8. The optimum contact period was observed as 4.0 h and from the adsorption graphs plotted as a function of time; it was established that phenol adsorption on TIWAC conformed more to a pseudosecond-order kinetic model. Additionally, it was determined that the adsorption rate is controlled by intraparticle diffusion as well as film diffusion. It was established that phenol adsorption on TIWAC can be better defined by the Langmuir adsorption model and its adsorption capacity was 142.9 mg.g(-1) from the linear Langmuir equation. Temperature had an adverse effect on adsorption yield, and hence, the adsorption process was exothermic in our case. Moreover, increasing electrolyte concentration in the medium has a positive effect on adsorption yield. From the data obtained, it was concluded that the removal of phenol from aqueous solution by TIWAC produced from tea industry wastes with a very low cost took place with an extremely high performance.
- MakaleYalnız künye2016Do early procalcitonine levels aid in predicting mortality in burn patients?
Piroglu, Isilay Demir; Tulgar, Serkan; Piroglu, Mustafa Devrim; Thomas, David Terence; Karakilic, Evvah; Gergerli, Ruken; Ates, Nagihan Gozde; Demir, Ahmet
Aim: Burn patients in intensive care units (ICU) are at high risk of mortality. Our aim in this stuy is to evaluate the use of first 48 hour procalcitonin level (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP) and APACHE II score for the prediction of mortality in burn patients admitted to ICU. Material and method: Files of patients with burns admitted to a tertiary centre's burn unit were retrospectively analysed and those with procalcitonin and C-reactive protein level measurements and APACHE II scores within first 48 hours of admittance were included in this study. Patients with comorbidities that would effect PCT and CRP levels such as chronic renal or liver failure were excluded from the study. Patients PCT, CRP and APACHE II scores were compared with the outcome of patients. Results: Seventy patients were included in this study. While CRP levels were lower in patients that were deceased, PCT levels were significantly higher in these patients. In patients with APACHE II score > 20 and PCT > 2 ng/ml, mortality was statistically very significantly higher compared with other patients. Logistical regression analysis showed that high PCT levels and APACHE II scores were important at predicting mortality in these patients. Conclusion: High PCT levels within 48 hours of burns is a predictor of mortality in these patients. Additional studies are required to correctly determine the cut-off value. A modified scoring system including APACHE II and PCT may be useful for better predicting mortality, although larger multi-centered studies are required.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2021Non-Invasive Monitoring of Ethanol and Methanol Levels in Grape-Derived Pisco Distillate by Vibrational Spectroscopy
Menevseoglu, Ahmed; Aykas, Didem P.; Hatta-Sakoda, Beatriz; Toledo-Herrera, Victor Hugo; Rodriguez-Saona, Luis E.
Handheld Raman and portable FT-IR spectroscopy devices were evaluated for fast and non-invasive determination of methanol and ethanol levels in Peruvian Pisco. Commercial Peruvian Pisco (n = 171) samples were kindly provided by the UNALM Alliance for Research in Alcohol and its Derivatives (Lima, Peru) and supplemented by purchases at grocery and online stores. Pisco spectra were collected on handheld Raman spectrometers equipped with either a 1064 nm or a 785 nm excitation laser and a portable infrared unit operating in transmission mode. The alcohol levels were determined by GC-MS. Calibration models used partial least-squares regression (PLSR) to develop prediction algorithms. GC-MS data revealed that 10% of Pisco samples had ethanol levels lower than 38%, indicating possible water dilution. Methanol levels ranged from 10 to 130 mg/100 mL, well below the maximum levels allowed for fruit brandies. Handheld Raman equipped with a 1064 nm excitation laser gave the best results for determining ethanol (SEP = 1.2%; RPre = 0.95) and methanol (SEP = 1.8 mg/100 mL; RPre = 0.93). Randomly selected Pisco samples were spiked with methanol (75 to 2800 mg/100 mL), and their Raman spectra were collected through their genuine commercial bottles. The prediction models gave an excellent performance (SEP = 98 mg/100 mL; RPre = 0.97), allowing for the non-destructive and non-contact determination of methanol and ethanol concentrations without opening the bottles.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2027Authorisation of notary publics on real property transactions in relation to the Turkish land registry system based on Cadastre 2014 vision

The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) has globally influenced land administration through its Cadastre 2014 vision and subsequent LADM standards. T & uuml;rkiye has been modernizing its land registry and cadastre system accordingly. The General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre (GDLRC) manages approximately 17 million annual transactions, including about 3.4 million conveyancing (long-term averages). To reduce congestion in Land Registry Offices (LROs), notaries were authorized to issue sales contracts in June 2022. This study investigates the effects of this change within the Cadastre 2014/2034 framework in terms of the maturity of the Turkish Land Administration System (LAS) and also by linking the issue to broader debates within land management and governance. A survey of 140 GDLRC experts revealed that notary involvement currently offers limited time and financial benefits to citizens and does not significantly reduce LRO workload. The central factor for this limitation is evaluated to be the maturity of Turkish LAS. On the other hand, the initiative aligns with Cadastre 2014's fifth statement, which advocates public-private collaboration, and therefore it should be further evolved. Within this evolution, administrative/managerial fixes and training programmes for notaries in the short term, management of all internal and external RRRs via LAS as a spatial data infrastructure service in line with LADM standards in the medium term, and betterment of institutional coordination, public responsibility development and capacity building in the long term are proposed for a better eventual land administration and management towards local and national good land governance.
- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2025Synergistic Effects of Exercise and Nano-Curcumin Supplementation in Women with Lifestyle-Related Diseases: A Scoping Review
Cherappurath, Nafih; Navaf, Muhammed; Ceylan, Halil Ibrahim; Elayaraja, Masilamani; Sunooj, Kappat Valiyapeediyekkal; Satheesan, Saranya T.; Thoompenthodi, Muhammed Ali; Perumbalath, Shamshadali; Bayrakdaroglu, Serdar; Muntean, Raul Ioan
Background/Objectives: Lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and osteoarthritis disproportionately affect women due to hormonal, metabolic, and socio-cultural factors. Emerging evidence suggests that combining structured exercise with nano-curcumin, a bioavailable phytochemical formulation with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, may provide synergistic benefits. This scoping review systematically synthesizes available evidence on the combined effects of nano-curcumin supplementation and exercise interventions on health outcomes in women with lifestyle-related diseases. Methods: Following the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and the PRISMA-ScR framework, a comprehensive database search was conducted in March 2025 and updated in June 2025. Records were retrieved from Scopus (n = 30), Web of Science (n = 22), PubMed (n = 18), and other sources (n = 71), yielding a total of 141 studies. After screening and deduplication, eight studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. All the studies were conducted in Iran with small sample sizes (12-53 participants) and short intervention durations (6-16 weeks). Therefore, the current evidence is geographically and demographically limited. Results: Across the included trials, the combined interventions produced additive or synergistic improvements in oxidative stress markers, inflammatory cytokines, lipid and glucose metabolism, cardiovascular function, pulmonary capacity, muscle fitness, and psychological outcomes (e.g., depression). When paired with nano-curcumin supplementation at different concentrations, high-intensity interval training, aerobic exercise, Pilates, and resistance training consistently outperformed exercise or supplementation alone in modulating antioxidant defenses, reducing systemic inflammation, and improving metabolic risk factors. Conclusions: The integration of exercise and nano-curcumin supplementation appears to confer superior benefits for women with lifestyle-related diseases compared with either approach alone. These findings highlight the potential of combining phytochemicals with lifestyle interventions to optimize women's health outcomes. However, most available evidence originates from small, short-term studies in single geographic regions. Large-scale, multicenter, randomized controlled trials with diverse populations are warranted to establish standardized protocols and optimal dosing strategies, and to assess long-term safety and efficacy.

Cirik, Vildan Apaydin; Bulut, Elif; Aksoy, Bahar; Coemert, Hatice Sonay Yalcin; Pate, Joshua W.
Background and purpose: Pain experiences in childhood are very likely to be reflected in adulthood. The early evaluation of the concept of pain in children may eventually lead to.better patient outcomes in the future. Therefore, we aimed to culturally and developmentally adapt the Concept of Pain Inventory for Children (COPI) for Turkish children. Methods: This descriptive, correlational study was conducted with 239 post-operative children aged 8-12 years between June and December 2021. The research adhered to COSMIN guidelines. The data were collected using a descriptive information form and the COPI. Factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, and item-total score analysis were used for the data analysis. Results: The resulting unidimensional scale consists of 12 items in Turkish. The scale explained 65% of the total variance. The exploratory factor analysis showed that the factor loadings of items ranged from 0.64 to 0.91. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the factor loadings of items ranged from 0.66 to 0.92. Goodness of fit indexes were found to be as follows: Normed Fit Index >0.90; Incremental Fit Index >0.90; Comparative Fit Index >0.90; and the Root Mean Square Error of Approximation <0.08. The total Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was 0.78 (reliable). Conclusions: The 12-item Turkish translation of the COPI was deemed valid and reliable in 8-12-year-old children in a post-operative setting. Practice implications: Evaluation of children's pain concepts during childhood may contribute to the identification of conceptual gaps for pain science education.(c) 2022 Elsevier Inc. Kazan, Ahmet; Kazan, Sema; Gur Mazlum, Sumeyye; Karaca, Emel; Altin, Mustafa; Grilli, Luca
In this paper, we deal with the canal hypersurfaces that are formed as the envelope of a family of pseudo-hyperspheres or pseudo-hyperbolic hyperspheres with centers lying on a pseudo-null curve with Bishop vector fields in four-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space. We give main theorems which contain the parametric expressions of these canal hypersurfaces along with their Gaussian, mean, and principal curvatures and important geometric characterizations. We also provide these characterizations for tubular hypersurfaces. Finally, we construct an example to allow for better understanding and comprehension of the results.
- MakaleYalnız künye2025Subduction initiation of the Neotethyan Ocean recorded in chromite deposits: A case study of the Kızıldag ophiolite, southern Turkiye
Uysal, Ibrahim; Akmaz, Recep Melih; Su, Ben-Xun; Demir, Yilmaz; Sen, Ahmet Dundar
The chromitites of the K & imath;z & imath;lda & gbreve; ophiolite (KO) are primarily characterized by massive and disseminated textures within refractory mantle peridotites, predominantly harzburgite and dunite, with occasional occurrences of banded and nodular chromitites. Based on chromite composition, these chromitites can be classified into two groups exhibiting a broad compositional range: intermediate (0.55 <= Cr# < 0.70, TiO2 = 0.08-0.51 wt%) and high-Cr (0.70 <= Cr# <= 0.77, TiO2 = 0.05-0.28 wt%). The compositions of minor and trace elements align consistently with variations in Cr#. Total PGE (Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pt, Pd) contents in these chromitites are generally less than 500 ppb, with many samples showing enrichment of IPGE (Os, Ir, Ru) relative to PPGE (Rh, Pt, Pd). However, certain samples from both groups display elevated PGE concentrations (Sigma PGE(intermediate) = 718 ppb, Sigma PGE(High-Cr) = 866 ppb) compared to other samples. The dominant platinum group mineral inclusions in chromite are Ru-rich laurite [(Ru, Os)S-2], with a single osmiridium (Os-Ir alloy) grain also observed suggesting formation under high-temperature and low & fnof;S-2 conditions. Primary base metal mineral inclusions include millerite and pentlandite. Additionally, some chromite crystals contain single or multi-phase silicate inclusions, such as clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, olivine, and amphibole. Parental melt compositions, calculated from Al2O3 and TiO2 contents of chromites, indicate that most high-Cr chromitites originated from boninitic melts, whereas intermediate chromitites and some high-Cr samples derived from melts with intermediate compositions. Trace element compositions of amphibole and clinopyroxene inclusions in the chromite crystals from the intermediate group further support crystallization from hydrous intermediate melts. It is proposed that the intermediate chromitite group formed from partial melts influenced by fluids from the subducted oceanic crust during the early stages of subduction initiation, while high-Cr chromitites originated from hydrous melts derived from a more depleted mantle wedge in later stages.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2025Could GSTP1, PTEN and NKX3.1 gene expression be novel markers in the relationship between prostate cancer and epigenetics?
Koçak, Tevfik; Acar-Tek, Nilufer; Yesil, Suleyman; Ergün, Mehmet Ali; Icer, Yusuf
Background: Although numerous treatment modalities exist for Prostate Cancer (PCa) with a complex pathophysiology, a significant worldwide health concern for males, early identification remains the paramount factor influencing disease prognosis. Proposed new biomarkers, including GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, may provide predictive and prognostic functions, hence enhancing the efficacy of PSA in diagnosing prostate cancer. Epigenetic variables associated with nutrition influence the blood gene expression levels of the new biomarkers GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1. This study aimed to elucidate the correlation between nutrition-related epigenetic variables and the expression of the tumor suppressor genes GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 in benign prostate and prostate cancer patients. Methods: This study was conducted with 41 newly diagnosed prostate cancer and 42 benign prostate patients, all aged 40 years and older. Participants had specific anthropometric measurements taken, and seven-day food records were kept. Serum levels of novel biochemical markers GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 were measured using an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Expression analyses of tumor-protective GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 genes were performed on prostate tissues obtained from fresh prostate biopsies taken from the groups and were associated with nutritional status. Results: A significant relationship was found between the serum levels of GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, which are important in the formation and treatment of prostate cancer, and Gleason grade, tumor stage, and surgical margin status (p < 0.05). However, significant relationships were found between many macro and micronutrients obtained from the dietary pattern and effective in epigenetic pathways and GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1 gene expressions (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The findings of this investigation corroborated the notion that prospective novel markers, including GSTP1, PTEN, and NKX3.1, may serve predictive and prognostic functions in prostate cancer, hence enhancing the efficacy of PSA in its diagnosis. Dietary trends may influence the optimization of many epigenetic processes. Targeted therapeutic nutritional interventions designed to enhance gene expression will facilitate the formulation of prostate cancer prevention methods.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Institutional suicide as anomie: decedents speak out for work-related suicides through a Durkheimian exploration of suicide notes in a context without institutional responsibilization for suicide prevention
Ozbilgin, Mustafa F.; Erbil, Cihat; Demirbag, Orkun; Gündogdu, Nur; Demirbag, Kuebra Simsek
Introduction Drawing on Durkheim's historical theorization of suicide, we extend his concept of anomic suicide, which is suicide due to a lack of social regulation, to introduce the concept of institutional suicide. We define institutional suicide as suicide due to the absence or decline of institutional policies, practices, and discourses for prevention. In this study, we explore the mechanisms for institutional suicides based on suicide notes Turkey, in a context without institutional responsibilization for prevention. Turkey provides a significant context for studying institutional suicides as policies, practices, and discourses for suicide prevention have been declining for some decades. Methods Drawing on publically available suicide notes and narratives in Turkish media outlets, we analyze 17 suicide notes and responses from their institutions of work and friends, family, and colleagues.Findings and Discussion We identify two mechanisms that lead to institutional suicides: (1) dehumanization due to lack of recognition and (2) misrecognition through a devaluation of potential. We extend the theory of anomie to institutional settings and offer social policy suggestions to improve institutional responses based on co-design based on suicide notes to prevent institutional suicides and call for institutional responsibilization for preventing work-related suicides.

Pasli, Sinan; Asik, Olgun; Imamoglu, Melih; Çiçek, Mustafa; Yadigaroglu, Metin; Dogramaci, Seniz; Mentese, Ahmet; Sahin, Mursel; Tatli, Ozgur
Aim: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a life-threatening condition that requires early diagnosis and treatment. There is still a need for precise and non-invasive biomarkers that can be used to diagnose PE. This study aimed to determine the diagnostic value of Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) in patients with acute PE and ascertain the relationship between serum CT-1 level and disease prognosis and severity. Materials and Methods: In this prospective study, the serum CT-1 levels of 165 patients with suspected acute PE were measured. The patients were divided into two groups, PE (+) and PE (-), based on their computed tomography angiography results. Their serum CT-1 levels were compared. Results: The CT-1 levels of the PE (+) group (median=4.18 pg/mL, range=3.57-9.55 pg/mL) was non-significantly (p=0.08) different from those of the PE (-) group (median=4.38 pg/mL, range=3.57-51.64 pg/mL). Based on the severity of the condition, there were significant differences (p=0.001) in the CT-1 levels of the patients in the intermediate-low risk group (median=4.19 pg/mL, range=3.62-5.32 pg/mL), intermediate-high risk group (median=4.06 pg/mL, range=3.57-9.31 pg/mL) and high risk group (median=5.01 pg/mL, range=3.89-9.55 pg/mL). Based on the clinical course, the CT-1 levels of the patients in the good clinical course group (median=4.15 pg/mL, range=3.57-9.31 pg/ml) were significantly different (p=0.004) from those in the poor clinical course group (median=4.53 pg/mL, range=3.66-9.55 pg/mL). Conclusion: CT-1 level was not observed to be a precise biomarker for the diagnosis of acute PE. However, our study demonstrated that the serum CT-1 levels can be used as a biomarker for ascertaining the severity and prognosis of patients with PE.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2014Poly(ε-caprolactone) Composite Scaffolds Loaded with Gentamicin-Containing β-Tricalcium Phosphate/Gelatin Microspheres for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications
Sezer, Umran Aydemir; Arslantunali, Damla; Aksoy, Eda Ayse; Hasirci, Vasif; Hasirci, Nesrin
In this study, novel poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) composite scaffolds were prepared for bone tissue engineering applications, where gentamicin-loaded -tricalcium phosphate (-TCP)/gelatin microspheres were added to PCL. The effects of the amount of -TCP/gelatin microspheres added to the PCL scaffold on various properties, such as the gentamicin release rate, biodegradability, morphology, mechanical strength, and pore size distribution, were investigated. A higher amount of filler caused a reduction in the mechanical properties and an increase in the pore size and led to a faster release of gentamicin. Human osteosarcoma cells (Saos-2) were seeded on the prepared composite scaffolds, and the viability of cells having alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was observed for all of the scaffolds after 3 weeks of incubation. Cell proliferation and differentiation enhanced the mechanical strength of the scaffolds. Promising results were obtained for the development of bone cells on the prepared biocompatible, biodegradable, and antimicrobial composite scaffolds. (c) 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. - MakaleYalnız künye2012Evaluation of the numerical wave model (SWAN) for wave simulation in the Black Sea
Akpinar, Adem; van Vledder, Gerbrant Ph.; Kömürcü, Murat Ihsan; Özger, Mehmet
This study summaries the implementation of the SWAN model forced by the ECMWF ERA Interim dataset reanalyzed 10 m winds over the Black Sea which will be used to study the wind-wave climate and wave energy potential in the region, and its verification. The SWAN model results were compared with directional buoy measurements at three locations along the north and south coasts of the Black Sea, parametric model results based on the JONSWAP growth relations, and the results of previous studies. The SWAN model has been applied in a third generation and non-stationary mode with spherical coordinates. The linear and exponential growth from wind input, depth-induced wave breaking, bottom friction, whitecapping, four-wave (for deep water) and triad-wave (for shallow water) nonlinear interactions have been activated in the simulations. The results of this study indicate that agreement between simulated and observed wave parameters is satisfactory and it is slightly more accurate than the results of the previous studies. However, it still has lower estimates for the maximum values of both wave parameters. These lower estimates are probably due to too low wind speeds in the applied ECMWF wind fields, which is probably caused by orographic effects, and due to the relatively course resolution in time and space of the ECMWF (ERA-Interim) wind fields for the Black Sea. - MakaleYalnız künye2021Non-targeted approach to detect green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio by using portable FT-IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy
Menevseoglu, Ahmed; Aykas, Didem Peren; Adal, Eda
Pistachio is one of the most expensive nuts with having high economic importance in Turkey. It has become more prone to adulteration because of its high commodity value. Peanut with color additives and green pea are generally used to adulterate ground pistachio. Vibrational spectroscopy is a potential technique to detect adulterations in pistachio. The objective of this study was to generate a non-targeted method for portable FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrometers to authenticate pistachio and detect green pea and peanut adulterations. Pistachio granules were adulterated with green pea and peanut at different concentrations (5 to 40% w/w). Spectra were collected by a portable FT-IR spectrometer and by a conventional UV-Vis spectrometer and analyzed by Soft Independent Modeling of Class Analogy (SIMCA) to generate classification algorithms to authenticate pistachio, and Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR) to predict the concentrations of adulterants. SIMCA showed very distinct clusters for pure samples. Moreover, adulterated pistachio samples were discriminated by SIMCA even in low levels of adulteration (5%). Portable FTIR showed excellent performance (r(val) > 0.93) of predicting the adulterant levels with a standard error of prediction (SEP) 0.66% and 0.80% for green pea and peanut, respectively. Similarly, UV-VIS predicted (r(val) > 0.93) the adulterant levels with SEP 0.58% and 0.14% for green pea and peanut, respectively. The results supported that portable FT-IR, and UV-Vis units present great potential for real-time surveillance of green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio.
- MakaleAçık Erişim2011Transition from shoshonitic to adakitic magmatism in the eastern Pontides, NE Turkey: Implications for slab window melting
Eyuboglu, Yener; Chung, Sun-Lin; Santosh, M.; Dudas, Francis O.; Akaryali, Enver
The formation of the eastern Pontides orogenic belt has been widely assigned to a northward subduction of the Neotethyan oceanic slab during the late Mesozoic-Cenozoic. Here we provide an alternate model based on new geological, geochemical and isotopic data. The magmatic activity in the far south of the belt started in the early Campanian with shoshonitic trachyandesites and associated pyroclastics. This sequence is covered by the late Campanian-early Maastrichtian reefal limestones and another stage of high-K volcanism represented by analcimized leucite-rich ultrapotassic rocks of the Maastrichtian-early Paleocene (?) ages. The shoshonitic and ultrapotassic rocks, with K2O contents ranging from 0.26 to 6.95 wt.%, display broadly similar rare earth and multi-element distribution patterns. Both rock types are enriched in LILE and LREE and depleted in HFSE (Nb,Ta and Ti), suggesting a subduction-enriched mantle source for the magma generation. Subsequently, during the late Paleocene, a stage of acidic magmatism (SiO2 of 53.25-73.61 wt.%) that shows adakitic geochemical characteristics including high Sr/Y (46-416) and La/Yb (11-51) and low Y (2.6-12.2 ppm), is documented characterized by melting of a mafic source such as the MORB crust with garnet in the residue. The adakitic magmatism began at similar to 56 Ma and migrated toward the north through time, culminating with porphyritic andesites (similar to 47 Ma) that were emplaced in the Gumushane-Bayburt line and its vicinity. North of this line, coeval magmas show typical calc-alkaline nature and continued to develop toward further north until the middle to late Eocene. Based on the spatial and temporal variations in the magmas generated in the eastern Pontides orogenic belt, we propose a new geodynamic model to explain the tectonomagmatic evolution of these rocks and correlate the adakitic magmatism to ridge subduction and slab window process within a south-dipping subduction zone. Our model is in contrast to the previous proposals which envisage partial melting or delamination of thickened lower continental crust due to the collision in the south during the Paleocene-Eocene. - MakaleYalnız künye2017Petrogenesis of ultramafic rocks from the eastern Orhaneli ophiolite, NW Turkey: Hints on the initiation and evolution of melt-peridotite interaction processes within a heterogeneously depleted mantle section
Uysal, Ibrahim; Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Kapsiotis, Argyrios; Saka, Samet; Karsli, Orhan; Kaliwoda, Melanie; Mueller, Dirk
The eastern Orhaneli ophiolite in NW Anatolia (Turkey) consists of voluminous dunite and minor harzburgite intruded by clinopyroxenite veins. Harzburgite contains spinel of low Cr# [100 x Cr/(Cr + Al) = 40-45] and diopside of low Al2O3 and TiO2 contents, whereas dunite contains spinel of higher Cr# (62-82) and diopside (blebs) (even more) depleted in Al2O3 and TiO2 (than harzburgite). The concentrations of Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) in harzburgite are consistent with derivation of this type of peridotite from 19% dry melting of a fertile mantle protolith at a MOR regime. Dunites have lower concentrations of HREE than harzburgite implying that dunites were generated by higher degrees (> 30%) of (cumulative) melting of the same protolith. Furthermore, the characteristic U-shapes of the chondrite-normalized REE-patterns of dunites indicate the involvement of hydrous melt-peridotite interaction processes in their genesis. Nevertheless, a set of mosaic-in texture dunite samples contain olivine that has lower Fo# [100 x Mg/(Mg + Fe2+)] and NiO contents than olivine in harzburgite. These dunites are probably of cumulate origin as it is also indicated by their enrichment in Pt and Pd (<= 17.92 ppb). Micro-textural and Re-Os isotopic data support that clinopyroxenite intrusions do not have a pure magmatic origin and their formation was partly controlled by metasomatic processes. Overall data indicate that the eastern Orhaneli ultramafic rocks have a complex petrological history including various stages of partial melting, metasomatism and magmatism in an evolving from MOR to SSZ geotectonic setting.

The Central Asian Orogenic Belt's ophiolites lack a full ophiolitic succession and instead occur as irregular fragments and slices in tectonic melanges and accretionary complexes. The Teskuduk and Northern Nurata ophiolites in Uzbekistan comprise extensively serpentinized mantle rocks that contain minor podiform chromitites, situated in the western area of the southern Tien Shan belt. Chromites in this region are found in a very limited area, and this study aims to determine the geochemical properties and formation environments of chromites by conducting geochemical studies on a limited number of recently discovered chromitites. In this context, mineral chemistry and platinum group element (PGE) geochemistry analyses were carried out on chromites. For Teskuduk chromitites, the Cr2O3, Al2O3, and TiO2 contents range from 53.2 to 55.7wt%, 11.1 to 12.7wt%, and 0.14 to 0.20 wt%, respectively, whereas for Nurata chromitites, the corresponding values range from 36.2 to 37.2 wt%, 23.1 to 30.2 wt%, and 0.10 to 0.30 wt%. The Teskuduk and Nurata chromitites contain a total average of 370 ppb and 117 ppb PGEs, respectively. They are classified as unfractionated chromitites, with low Pd/Ir ratios (0.03-0.20). These chromitite samples have chondrite-normalized PGE patterns that are identical to Cr-rich mantle-derived chromitites found in subduction-related ophiolites. Collectively, these data suggest that the Teskuduk ophiolites formed in a forearc setting, whereas the Nurata ophiolites evolved in a back-arc setting within the same oceanic branch.

Backround. The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in perioperative oxidant-antioxidant balance in ONCABG. Methods. Twenty-three patients were included in this study. Serum total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and oxidative stress index (OSI) values were assessed preoperatively, at 20 minutes after aortic clamping and at 30 minutes, 6 hours, and 48 hours after declamping (reperfusion). The patients were divided into 2 groups according to the median aortic cross clamping (XC) time: group 1 (XC time < 42 minutes) and group 2 (XC time >= 42 minutes). Results. TOS and OSI values of whole patients at 30 minutes after reperfusion were higher than preoperative values (P = 0.045, P = 0.015), while perioperative TAS levels of the patients were similar to the preoperative levels (P = 0.173). XC time was correlated with TOS levels at 30 minutes after reperfusion (P = 0.43, P = 0.041). In group 2, TOS and OSI values at 30 minutes after reperfusion were higher than preoperative values (P = 0.023, P = 0.048), whereas a significant difference was not found in group 1 (P = 0.601, P = 0.327). Conclusions. Oxidative imbalance and increase in TOS at reperfusion in ONCABG may be associated with XC time.

The aim of this study was to synthesize structured lipid from hazelnut oil with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) by lipase-catalyzed esterification reaction. The incorporation of CLA into hazelnut oil was optimized by response surface methodology (RSM). Substrate molar ratio, time, and temperature were independent variables chosen for optimization of the reaction. Substrate molar ratio was the most significant variable on the incorporation of conjugated linoleic acid. Good quadratic model was achieved by multiple regression analysis and backward elimination. Optimal incorporation conditions were determined as follows: reaction temperature, 59 degrees C; time, 6 hours; substrate molar ratio, 4. Under these optimum conditions, a maximum incorporation ratio of CLA into hazelnut oil of 49.42% was achieved.
