Doğan, Melike Demir
Objectives: This meta-analysis study was conducted to determine how acupressure affects fatigue in cancer patients. Materials and Methods: Randomised controlled clinical trials were conducted using the keywords ‘acupressure and fatigue’ on Google Scholar, PubMed, and ISI Web of Sciences databases. Cochran’s Q test statistics and I2 test statistics were used to test the presence of heterogeneity. The random-effect meta-analysis model was used according to the results of the test for heterogeneity. Hedge’s g test statistics were used to determine the joint effect between acupressure and control groups in the meta-analysis study. Results: In this meta-analysis study, 409 patients from the acupressure group and 403 patients from the control group were included. When calculating the average standardised difference value of the acupressure versus the control group, it was determined that acupressure decreased the fatigue score in a statistically significant way. Conclusion: Acupressure is an effective approach to alleviate cancer-related fatigue.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ2Potential geographic distribution and habitat utilization of Lacerta viridis (Squamata: Lacertidae) in northern Türkiye
Şahin, Mehmet Kürşat; Kurnaz, Muammer
The genus Lacerta, particularly the green lizard (Lacerta viridis), is a significant lizard group in the Western Palearctic. This study aims to predict its geographic range in Northern Türkiye and identify key habitat types based on the CORINE Land Cover classification. Occurrence records, gathered from published sources and on-site investigations, were analyzed using a 30 arc-second resolution layer and bioclimatic parameters from WorldClim v.2.1. The distribution was modeled in kuenm, and habitat use was assessed with generalized linear models. Results show that the green lizard’s occurrence is strongly influenced by precipitation dynamics and it prefers areas with little to no shade. These findings highlight the importance of precipitation in determining the species’ distribution and suggest further research on local dynamics for effective conservation.

In this study, seven types of traditional cherry laurel fruit vinegars (CLFV) belonging to three different species were produced. Vinegars, including those produced during the study and supplied from the market, were analyzed for total acidity, volatile acidity and non-volatile acidity, pH, ash, oxidation number, iodine number, ester, mineral substan-ce, alcohol, total solids, and total sugar-free solids. Analyses and the ranges of the results that were found in vinegar samples were as: Acidity percentage (as acetic acid) 1.68–4.13 %, volatile acidity (as acetic acid) 5.70–18.27 g/L, non-volatile acidity (as tartaric acid) 3.31–36.10 g/L, alcohol percentage 0.01–0.48, pH 2.24–3.57, total sugar 6.54–283.56 g/L, total solids 22.01–486.56 g/L, total sugar-free solids 14.11–217.73 g/L, ash 0.22–3.84 g/L, ester 16.80–61.14, oxidation number 389.60–394.05 and iodine number 35.20–386.88. For the color analysis, the values were found to be between 10.91 and 25.79 for L*, 5.15 and 15.08 for a*, between –4.83 and 8.72 for b*, between 3.54 and 16.83 for E*. Based on their physicochemical properties, the vinegars numbered N4, N5, N6, N8, and N9 are considered suitable for vinegar production compared to the samples numbered N7 and N10. The raw material contents of N7 and N10 vinegars differ from the others and inhibit the development of acidity. Additionally, it has been determined that the physicochemical properties of N4, N5, N6, N8, and N9 vinegar samples are superior to those of apple and grape vinegars. According to the study re-sult, cherry laurel fruits (CLF) are suitable for natural vinegar production under optimum conditions, and further field studies should be carried out to apply these findings at the industrial level.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ2Sustainable water consumption and water-saving behaviours: A review of consumers' environmental and economic concerns in Turkey
Avci, İbrahim
Water, which plays an important role in human life, has been depleted as a result of changing consumption patterns, climate change and increasing population, and water scarcity has emerged as one of the most pressing issues facing the world in the coming years. One solution to this problem is to make more efficient and sustainable use of existing water resources. In this context, the study aims to investigate the effects of consumers' environmental and economic concerns on sustainable water consumption behaviour, as well as the mediating role of water-saving behaviour in these effects. For this purpose, it was discovered that environmental and economic concerns have positive effects on sustainable water consumption behaviour as a result of an analysis of data collected from 591 consumers in Turkey via the online survey method; it was determined that environmental concerns have no effect on water-saving behaviour, whereas economic concerns have a positive effect on water-saving behaviour. According to the findings of the mediation analysis, water-saving behaviour only serves to mediate the effect of economic concerns on sustainable water consumption behaviour.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023FROM TRADITION TO MAINSTREAM: UNDERSTANDING THE INTEGRATION OF ISLAMIC LAW IN VARIOUS GLOBAL SETTINGS
Karimullah, Suud Sarim
The study highlights the importance of integrating Islamic law in global legal settings, enriching the legal framework, and promoting interreligious dialogue. This is an important area that needs to be understood and taken seriously in the context of ongoing world changes. The study used a qualitative approach to analyze academic literature, legal documents, and related research reports from various sources. The research findings identify several significant examples of integration of Islamic law in different global settings, including Muslim and non-Muslim majority countries. The integration of Islamic law in a worldwide legal environment offers meaningful potential. First, values such as social justice, balance, and common good in Islamic law can provide a different and complementary perspective to the principles of secular law. This impacts more inclusive and fair policies for the Muslim community. Second, the integration of Islamic law can better facilitate interreligious dialogue. Non-Muslim communities' more profound understanding of Islamic law may open the way for constructive dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation in addressing global legal issues. This has the potential to reduce tensions and increase interreligious tolerance. However, challenges and controversies are also part of integrating Islamic law. Recognition of the validity and relevance of Islamic law in more comprehensive legal settings is still doubted by some. At the same time, differences in interpretation and implementation can lead to tensions in diverse societies.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Effect of denoising methods for hyperspectral images classification: DnCNN, NGM, CSF, BM3D and Wiener
Günen, Mehmet Akif; Besdok, Erkan
Hyperspectral images are widely used for land use/cover analysis in remote sensing due to their rich spectral information. However, these data often suffer from noise caused by various factors such as random and systematic errors, making them less useful for end-users. In this study, denoising methods (i.e., DnCNN, NGM, CSF, BM3D, and Wiener) for hyperspectral images were compared using the Pavia University hyperspectral dataset with four different noise types: Gaussian, Salt & Pepper, Poisson, and Speckle. After denoising, the k-nearest neighbor method was used to classify the image, and statistical and visual performance comparisons were performed on the classified data. Six performance metrics-Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, Precision, F-Score, and G-Mean-were employed to compare the outcomes qualitatively. The findings demonstrate that DnCNN and BM3D have the best outcome performance for all four noise types. Due to their lack of sensitivity and specificity, the CSF and Wiener approaches had low performance for particular noise sources. For all noise types, the NGM approach had the worst results. The validated instruments not provide effective results when it came to denoising Salt & Pepper noise, but they managed to produce outstanding results when it came to denoising Poisson noise. In order to enhance the quality and usability of hyperspectral images for land use/cover analysis, this study emphasizes the significance of choosing an effective denoising technique.

Başoğlu, Aysel
In this study, Robinia hispida L leaves (RH) was used as a precursor for the first time to synthesize fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) with stable blue fluorescence by a single-step hydrothermal synthesis method. Notably, the innovative approach eliminates the necessity for toxic chemicals or hazardous substances, marking a significant advancement in the field. The synthesized CDs demonstrate CDs demonstrates the predominance of spherical shapes with an average size of 11.63 ± 1.92 nm. The CDs not only exhibit an enhanced fluorescent efficiency with a relatively high quantum yield of up to 6.8%, but they also possess the potential for direct utilization in the selective determination of Hg(II) through fluorescence quenching, even without any functionalization. Under the optimized conditions at a pH of 7.0, a robust linear correlation was found to exist between the fluorescence intensity and the concentration of Hg (II) within the range of 5–17.5 μM, exhibiting a detection limit (3σ) of 1.5 μM. Additionally, this methodology was effectively employed to successfully detect Hg (II) ions in various aqueous samples, including tap water, spring water, drinking water, and a certified reference material (CRM-SA-C Sandy Soil C). The spike recoveries of 97.6%–101.6% with less than 2.7% variability were performed on all samples.

- Derleme MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ3Effect of Different Stabilizers and Rebaudioside A (Reb A) Sweetener on Quality Characteristics of Low-Calorie Orange Marmalade
Öztürk, Şeyda; Baltacı, Cemalettin
Low-calorie orange marmalade was produced using sugar and reb A (0.08%) or reb A-sugar free recipes with pectin (1%) and agar agar (AA) (1%) stabilizers. The physical, chemical, and sensory properties of the marmalades were evaluated. AA stabilizers increased the viscosity of the marmalades compared to pectin, but they did not affect samples with reb A. Low-calorie samples had higher L* and b* values and lower a* values than sugar-containing samples. Total sugar content in reb A samples was 8.30 to 9.28 g/100 g, and it was lower in agar samples produced in parallel with pectin. The hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) value was lower in sugar-free recipes (3.03 to 3.62) than in sugar-containing samples. Pectin-reb A samples had favorable taste, while AA-reb A samples favored consistency among reb A-containing samples.

İncele - MakaleAçık Erişim2024Scopus SJRQ1Effect of White-Portland cement containing micro and nano silica on the mechanical and freeze-thaw properties of self compacting mortars
Etli, Serkan; Yılmaz, Tekin; Hansu, Osman
This study concentrated to investigate the influences of white-Portland cement (W-PC) containing silica fume (SF: micro-silica (µSi) and nano-silica (nSi)) as replacement (2–4 wt%) on mechanical (strength and durability), physical and microstructural behaviors of self-compacting mortars (SCMs) fabricated at 0.48–0.63 w/b ratios. In keeping with these purposes, besides of carrying out the workability (mini-slump flow: M−SF and V-funnel: V-F) experiments of SCMs, the mechanical and microstructural tests implemented were: unconfined compressive strength (UCS), flexural strength (FS), freeze–thaw (F-T) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis. The outcomes displayed that, in comparison with the control, replacing W-PC by SF (particularly nSi) enhanced the UCS and FS, resisted against F-T durability by lowering the strength losses in UCS and FS. The ameliorated microstructure resulting in a reduction in the number and/or a narrowing in the size of micro-cracks and pores contributed to generate a more compact and consolidated SCM structure for the improving of strength and durability due of pore-filling effect and superior pozzolanic characteristics of µSi and especially nSi, this in turn reduced the permeability of SCM, which has a significant effect on the strength and durability behaviors of the SCM.

- MakaleYalnız künye2022Scopus SJRQ1Alleviating the Impact of the Barriers to Circular Economy Adoption Through Blockchain: An Investigation Using an Integrated MCDM-based QFD With Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Sets
Erol, Ismail; Murat Ar, Ilker; Peker, Iskender; Searcy, Cory
Despite its clear potential to contribute to sustainability, there are many challenges to adopting circular economy (CE). These barriers impede the implementation of CE; however, research to address them is ongoing. For example, novel technologies have become a key enabler for easing the impact of CE adoption barriers. Blockchain is one disruptive technology that has the potential to address some of those barriers, notably technological, organizational, and ecological. Blockchain is particularly well suited to help address supply chain-oriented barriers to CE adoption. However, a review of the literature shows that while there are a limited number of conceptual studies that address the capabilities of blockchain to alleviate the impact of the barriers to CE, no previous study has focused on this vital subject using a decision tool based on expert data. To this end, this paper proposes an integrated decision framework involving Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM)-based Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method with Hesitant Fuzzy Linguistic Term Sets (HFLTS) to investigate the true potential of blockchain to address the CE adoption barriers. Our findings indicate that enhanced supply chain traceability management, improved collaboration and coordination in supply chain ecosystems, building higher levels of trust in supply chain ecosystems, and enhanced business models are the most significant functions of blockchain to help overcome the CE adoption barriers.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ2Enhanced Oxidative Stability and Bioaccessibility of Sour Cherry Kernel Byproducts Encapsulated by Complex Coacervates with Different Wall Matrixes by Spray- and Freeze-Drying
Altuntas, Umit; Altin-Yavuzarslan, Gokce; Ozçelik, Beraat
Sour cherry (Prunus cerasus L.) seeds are obtained as byproducts of the processing of sour cherries into processed foods. Sour cherry kernel oil (SCKO) contains n-3 PUFAs, which may provide an alternative to marine food products. In this study, SCKO was encapsulated by complex coacervates, and the characterization and in vitro bioaccessibility of encapsulated SCKO were investigated. Complex coacervates were prepared by whey protein concentrate (WPC) in combination with two different wall materials, maltodextrin (MD) and trehalose (TH). Gum Arabic (GA) was added to the final coacervate formulations to maintain droplet stability in the liquid phase. The oxidative stability of encapsulated SCKO was improved by drying on complex coacervate dispersions via freeze-drying and spray-drying. The optimum encapsulation efficiency (EE) was obtained for the sample 1% SCKO encapsulated with 3:1 MD/WPC ratio, followed by the 3:1 TH/WPC mixture containing 2% oil, while the sample with 4:1 TH/WPC containing 2% oil had the lowest EE. In comparison with freeze-dried coacervates containing 1% SCKO, spray-dried ones demonstrated higher EE and improved oxidative stability. It was also shown that TH could be a good alternative to MD when preparing complex coacervates with polysaccharide/protein networks.

- MakaleYayıncıda açık erişim2022Scopus SJRQ2Producing maximally entangled Bell type states in an efficient way for quantum teleportation
Çelik, Necati; Ünal, Nüket
In quantum teleportation, the sender must interact her/his qubit to one of the qubits in a maximally entangled Bell/Bell-type state and as a result, a joint state is obtained. This joint state has to be rearranged in terms of the appropriate number of Bell/Bell-type states. Then the sender measures her/his qubits and sends the results via a classical channel to the receiver. According to the outcome of the measurement results, the receiver applies appropriate gates to the qubits in her/his share to recover the teleported state. Perhaps the most important step in this protocol is to be able to rewrite the joint state in terms of the appropriate number of Bell-type states. An efficient way to produce Bell-type states for quantum teleportation of an arbitrary n-qubit state is proposed. Quantum teleportation of an arbitrary three-qubit state is studied as an example.

- MakaleYalnız künye2024Scopus SJRQ1Caprock integrity at Çanakkale-Tuzla hydrothermal system inferred from magnetotelluric modeling using particle swarm optimization
Büyük, Ersin; Karaman, Abdullah
The impermeable caprock within a geothermal system serves the purpose of effectively sealing the reservoir, resulting in an elevation of both pressure and temperature. This sealing mechanism plays a crucial role in the long-term preservation of the system while also contributing to its overall sustainability. Caprock failure subsequent to seismic activity near a geothermal site can lead to the permeation of the caprock structure, resulting in diminished sealing capabilities and a decline in the reservoir temperature. In addition, this process alters the geochemical composition of the water by creating a hydrothermal mixture zone that disrupts the resistivity structure of the caprock, which is typically characterized by low resistivity values due to its substantial clay content and mineral alteration. This study focuses on investigating the integrity of the caprock at the Çanakkale-Tuzla geothermal field in Turkey, where water temperature and conductivity were reported to have decreased after a moderate-magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. For this purpose, we have performed magnetotelluric (MT) measurements, a method known for its sensitivity to geochemical reactions. These measurements are conducted along two parallel profiles that encompassed a total of 32 stations. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is used to overcome the subtle difficulties associated with conventional inversion methods in modeling the MT data of complex formations. This is the first study that overcomes the difficulties emanating from the caprock failure by modeling MT data using PSO. Our modeling approach produces resistivity images that we interpreted as the signature of the failed caprock following the earthquake at the study site. Our results appear to confirm the documented geochemical changes, or hydrothermal mixture zone around the caprock structure.

Reis, Hatice Catal; Turk, Veysel
Machine learning has been recently used especially in the medical field. In the diagnosis of serious diseases such as cancer, deep learning techniques can be used to reduce the workload of experts and to produce quick solutions. The nuclei found in the histopathology dataset are an essential parameter in disease detection. The nucleus segmentation was performed using the colorectal histology MNIST dataset for nucleus detection in this study. The graph theory, PSO, watershed, and random walker algorithms were used for the segmentation process. In addition, we present the 10-class MedCLNet visual dataset consisting of the NCT-CRC-HE-100 K dataset, LC25000 dataset, and GlaS dataset that can be used in transfer learning studies from deep learning techniques. The study proposes a transfer learning technique using the MedCLNet database. Deep neural networks pre-trained with the proposed transfer learning method were used in the classification with the colorectal histology MNIST dataset in the experimental process. DenseNet201, DenseNet169, InceptionResNetV2, InceptionV3, ResNet152V2, ResNet101V2, and Xception deep learning algorithms were used in transfer learning and the classification studies. The proposed approach was analyzed before and after transfer learning with different methods (DenseNet169 + SVM, DenseNet169 + GRU). In the performance measurement, using the colorectal histology MNIST dataset, 94.29% accuracy was obtained in the DenseNet169 model, which was initiated with random weights in the multi-classification study, and 95.00% accuracy after transfer learning was applied. In comparison with the results obtained from empirical studies, it was demonstrated that the proposed method produced satisfactory outcomes. The application is expected to provide a secondary evaluation for physicians in colon cancer detection and the segmentation. Graphical Abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.].

- MakaleYalnız künye2023Scopus SJRQ4MODELING DISEASE TRANSMISSION DYNAMICS WITH RANDOM DATA AND HEAVY TAILED RANDOM EFFECTS: THE ZIKA CASE
Bekiryazici, Z.; Kesemen, T.; Merdan, M.; Khaniyev, T.
In this study, we investigate a compartmental model of Zika Virus transmission under random effects. Random effects enable the analysis of random numerical characteristics of transmission, which cannot be modeled through deterministic equations. Data obtained from Zika studies in the literature are used along with heavy tailed random effects to obtain new random variables for the parameters of the deterministic model. Finally, simulations of the model are carried out to analyze the random dynamics of Zika Virus transmission. Deterministic results are compared with results from the simulations of the random system to underline the advantages of a random modeling approach. It is shown that the random model provides additional results for disease transmission dynamics such as results for standard deviation and coefficients of variation, making it a valuable alternative to deterministic modeling. Random results suggest around 90% - 120% coefficient of variation for the random model underlining the fact that the randomness should not be ignored for the transmission of this disease.

- MakaleAçık Erişim2023Scopus SJRQ1Geographic distribution of two Montivipera taxa using ecological niche modeling
Kurnaz, Muammer
Ecological niche modeling predicts the potential distribution areas of species and contributes to measuring the niche differentiation among taxa. Montivipera albizona and M. bulgardaghica are two mountain viper taxa distributed in Anatolia. In the present study, the habitat suitability of M. albizona and M. bulgardaghica was assessed, and ecological niche ranges between these taxa were compared. According to species distribution models, while the distribution area of M. albizona covers a relatively large region in central Anatolia, M. bulgardaghica has a relatively narrow distribution over the eastern Taurus mountains. The species distributional results showed that the annual temperature range and mean temperature of the coldest quarter were the highest contributing variables, with 62.5% for M. albizona and 67.9% for M. bulgardaghica. Montiverpa albizona prefers 13 different habitat types, while M. bulgardaghica prefers 6 different habitat types in their distribution areas. Niche differentiation analysis revealed that there was no overlap between the two taxa in terms of their ecological niches.

Karsli, Orhan; Şengün, Fırat; Santos, José Francisco; Uysal, İbrahim; Dokuz, Abdurrahman; Aydin, Faruk; Kandemir, Raif
The Mesozoic geodynamic evolution of the Paleotethys Ocean is critical but a poorly known piece of the geological history of the Sakarya Zone, north Turkey. Here, we describe new integrated research of zircon U-Pb geochronology, bulk-rock major-trace element and Sr–Nd isotopes as well as Hf isotope of zircons from the granitic rocks of the Demirköy and Kızıldamlar plutons located in Bilecik area along the western Sakarya Zone, northwestern Turkey. Zircon U–Pb ages obtained by LA-ICP-MS reveal that the granitic magma intruded into the basement rocks during the Late Jurassic (ca. 162–157 Ma). The granites are tholeiitic and show slightly metaluminous to peraluminous geochemical affinities. The granite samples are adakitic, having relatively high Na2O (6.35–7.58 wt%) and Sr (172–580 ppm), and low K2O (0.39–1.13 wt%) and Y (3.2–5.3 ppm), and thus have high Sr/Y (70–250). The samples exhibit enrichment of light rare earth elements (REE) and large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and depletion in heavy REE and the high field strength elements (HFSE; e.g., Nb, Ti, Ta). The samples possess low 87Sr/86Sr(t) values of 0.70313 to 0.70372, and εNd(t) of −0.66 to +9.24. Zircon grains exhibit positive εHf (t) values of 5.0 to 12.8 and depleted mantle model ages of Hf (TDM1 = 0.24 to 0.68 Ga). These geochemical features and Sr–Nd–Hf radiogenic isotope systematics reveal that the adakitic rocks were likely formed by low degree melting (<10%) of the eclogitic part of an oceanic slab and subsequent melt fractionation and crustal contamination. An ongoing subduction scenario cannot explain the formation of the investigated adakitic rocks. We suggest that the adakitic plutons were generated through slab break-off after the final closure of the Paleotethys Ocean throughout the Late Jurassic (ca. 162–157 Ma). Considering the previous data, the continental back-arc basin system, leading to the opening of Neotethys Ocean at the southern margin of the continent, has been put forward to decipher the Late Jurassic tectonic evolution of the Paleotethys Ocean and the western Sakarya Zone.

This Study aims to evaluate the radiation shielding efficiency of YBa2Cu3O7 and Y3Ba5Cu8O18 superconducting ceramics. In the current study, the radiation shielding efficiency of YBa2Cu3O7 and Y3Ba5Cu8O18 superconducting ceramics were calculated using the EGS4 code and discussed experimentally and theoretically by comparing with XCOM data. The mass attenuation coefficients (μ/ρ) for YBa2Cu3O7 and Y3Ba5Cu8O18 superconductors and their contents was investigated theoretically (EGS4 and WinXcom) and experimentally at gamma-ray energies from 122 to 1332 keV. The theoretical values have been computed in the energy range from 1 keV to 100 MeV using WinXcom program. Then, using the mass attenuation coefficients, it was determined some shielding parameters such as mean free path (MFP), half value layer (HVL), effective atomic number (Zeff), radiation protection efficiency (RPE) and gamma–ray kerma coefficients ((kγ). It has been seen that the theoretical and the empirical results were in agreement. The data and findings from this study can guide further research and development of shielding materials for gamma-ray and neutron shielding applications.
